A date that, though important, is not exactly on your mind right now?

Why?

Well mostly because your childhood house is not exactly acting like a house should.

“Western houses growl?” Tomoe narrows her eyes as, indeed, the house growls. A deep, guttural sound echoing from the fireplace with such force that it fuels the flames, kicking ashes out into the room.

“No. No, they don't.” You frown, shake your head, and reach down for your MP5K. Your fingers don't hesitate, even as the floor beneath you begins to quiver and buck. Time to get outside.

With a deft swiftness, you snag Tomoe by the hand and bolt for the main door. You know that it won't likely open now.

“The door! Blow open the door!”
>>
Despite panic stricken eyes and a visage that clearly illustrates she has no inkling of just WHAT is going on, Tomoe doesn't hesitate. A blue orb of flame leaps from the palm of her hand and smashes into the heavy wood. For a second it seems as though it won't give, but the foxfire wins out in the end, splintering everything but the frame.

“I don't understand! What the hell is going on?!” She almost trips as you continue to pull her along, now outside on the long grass. The moment you look back is the same that you see it, not the first time, but you certainly didn't expect one here.

The house, your old home no less, is moving. Windows shatter outwards as long, almost liquid appendages burst forth, baring gleaming ivory teeth that snap and clatter. Boards burst as the old walls fail to contain the beast lurking within any longer, fleshy pink blobs poking through the sides. The whole structure appears as though it might give out at any moment, walls bulging outwards, old boards cracking audibly as they voice their struggle.

One of the mouths comes screaming toward you, gnashing and frothing between the teeth. A quick burst from the machine pistol in your hand shatters half a dozen of the pearly whites, and the beast screams as the appendage recoils, spinning around as it quickly retracts back into the window.
>>
“I think we're out of range.” Tomoe feels inclined to say fatefully. Which is the perfect lead-in for the roof to explode outward, raining the area in slivers of board and whirling shingles. A massive, ventricle filled sack begins expanding upwards now, higher and larger than the house itself. The entire domicile lifts up from the ground quite faster than seems possible, rising into the air on the bag filled with gas.

Several claw-tipped arms at least four times wider around than your torso drop down from the floor, grasp into the soil, and all at once, your house begins chasing after you.

You know what a mimic can do quite intimately already. There had been several attempts to weaponize them during the war, none successful aside from unleashing more of them into the wild. Rather difficult to stop a battleship that has sprouted legs and taken it upon itself to go somewhere other than the base.

Glancing over at Tomoe, you realize you can knock out two problems all at once.

The gun barks in your hand, just once.

"Ahhh?!?!" The kitsune collapses to the ground, grabbing at what little remains of her left knee.

Despite knowing that you've betrayed her, she calls out to you as one of the mouths lowers itself down to meet her. She even tries to crawl toward you as you slowly back away. The teeth start at her feet and begin to work their way up, taking their time with every bite.

*chomp*

Everything below her torso, gone.

She reaches out toward you with one arm.

>>20636266
HUESCIENCE! Now we need to test if it is the same with young boys, old men, young girls and grandmas.
>>
"What is THAT?!" Tomoe gasps as she stares in awe at the charging beast.

"A mimic, now keep running! We need to make it to the treeline!" You tug her arm, making sure she keeps moving. Mimics, while excellent ambush predators, suffer with terrain when they've grown to such a size as this one. No amount of pulling will get it into the forest, which is when you can strike.

Usually the damn things never get much larger than a treasure chest, which they all too often choose to inhabit. Though you've seen others, experiments, grow to be much MUCH larger. Large enough to make a battleship come crawling up out of the water. You don't know if they ever managed to stop that one.

A wave of relief crashes over you as your boots begin to crunch twigs rather than grass, and you've never been so happy to see trees in your life. You make it a good fifty or so yards into the woods before stopping to turn and face what your house has become.

"We don't... Have those in my country..." Tomoe continues to gawk even as the mimic rams itself rather forcefully against the most outer row of trees. The mimic manages to force itself a bit into the forest, before appearing rather stuck. No matter how much it thrashes and screams, it comes no closer.

"Are we going to uh... Leave it alone, now?"

"If we do that, it will just go dormant and wait for someone else to come along. I don't want some kids wandering inside. We'll deal with it here and now."

"Mimics don't do so hot against fire, so we're going to barbecue it. You're pretty good with fire, aren't you, nine-tails?"

"Nine tails?" Tomoe shrugs but doesn't hide her growing smirk, "I'm not terrible with it, why?"

In one fluid movement you snag her around the waist, spread your wings, and kick off from the ground. Tomoe lets out an "eep" of surprise but in a flash is back to looking slightly excited.

"I don't usually get a chance for something like this. You think I can..."

"Torch it alive, yes. Burn it down, burn it all down!"

"Well if you insist..."

Crazy eyes. You know what crazy eyes, on a woman, entail. That somewhere, so deep inside her that she might not even realize it, is a desire to set things alight and just watch as it all burns to ash. Or maybe she's just having a good time, you don't know, not even an incubus can understand a woman's mind.

>>
Tomoe brings her hands close together in front of her, eyes narrowing in concentration as the fire begins to form. It crackles to life, larger and larger as it hungrily consumes magic and grows yet more. Her tails fluff up to the widest you've seen them, ears perking up and the hair on them standing on end. The flame continues to widen, already well beyond her hands and coming closer to you than you'd like.

The moment before you shout to just do it already, before it starts burning you, is when Tomoe launches it. The vorpal orb of foxfire dropping quickly to the ground right in front of the mimic. It splashes, sending liquid flame rolling across the ground and against the trunks of trees. Foliage catches almost instantly, the trunks of trees nearly as fast. What was a moment ago, a peaceful little patch of woods (save the thrashing mimic) is now a scene from hell. Fire races up, across branches, lighting even the ground beneath ablaze.

The mimic struggles harder still as boards begin to catch, the outside paint bubbling from the sheer heat. Its limbs attempt to retract back inside, as though that would offer any shelter whatsoever from the inferno all around it. You can see exposed flesh turning charred black and the creatures movements beginning to slow.
>>
At last, as fire has spread to every corner of the home, the beast relents. With one last, loud sigh, it collapses where it stands. The gas sack above it swelling to an even more impressive size before bursting. The flame crackles as it consumes the gas, leaping into the air in a symbol of finality.

With a simple snap of her fingers, the flame subsides. The blue and orange blaze dying off with a whisper.

"Hey, remind me to buy a fire retardant suit next time I'm in town."

Tomoe giggles, still clearly very excited, "Just don't give me a reason to fry you up in the first place."

"Noted."

Japanese novel about a guy stuck in a timeloop until he can kill enough bug aliens in the right way.

I think so. Either that or it destroyed the house leaving no trace, seeing as there's a mimic where the house was. Either way a new house is needed.
>>
"Erik..."

No, it isn't time to wake up yet. You know that. The world and time can go get bent, it isn't time to wake up yet.

Something scaly this way comes.

"Whoa?!" You jerk in reaction as something winds itself quickly around your torso, squeezing down just enough to make it uncomfortable.

Peeling an eye open just enough to see, it's enough to make out Karin's face as she stares down at you disapprovingly. One of her hair cobras comes awfully close to your face, but you don't back away. Or rather, can't.

"Not taking no for an answer, Rick wanted you over in the morning and I'm not letting you make him wait."

You snore once.

*squeeze...*

"Ok, ok! Geeze!" You push at the coils even as they relax. "Who are you, my mother?"

"I don't believe Echidna have the capabilities to turn someone to stone, but would you like me to test the magic I have little to no grasp of?"

"...I'll be good."

Groaning and grunting, you scoot your way out of the tail hold and slide off of the bed. The sun is just peeking up over the horizon, which generally would men it was close to your bed time. Amazing how much you've changed in such a short time.

Tilting your head to look over at Karin, you can't help but smirk at her. "Decided to change, huh?"

She pulls the sheet up a bit more, "You know I have no control over it."

Pretty sure that's from the anime, but the CG scenes are pretty high quality.

Muv-Luv definitely borrows from Starship Troopers, as does AYNIK, so if all you're interested in is the picture's source then downloading the game should be enough.
>>
"I'll show you something else you have no control over, dohoho."

Karin looks clearly unamused.

"Breakfast, at least?" You ask hopefully.

A granola bar lands on the pillow next to you.

"You can eat on the way."

***

Perhaps because she can wind her tail tight around the frame, or perhaps because she's getting more used to it, Karin isn't nearly as on edge over the jetbike ride today. Even when you enter a rather steep dive toward Rick's, she only offers two threats of great bodily harm and a single smack on the head.

"No. Fucking. Way." The spindly centipede clacks several of his limbs together and shakes his head, "Somebody call up the press, this has to be some kind of sign of the apocalypse."

"Apocalypse already happened, Rick, though you should be thankful because you were uglier before it."

"Touche. Now come on, I need to go over this stuff with you."

It's amazing at how little Rick's shop has changed since you've known him. The only thing that is ever different is the level of clutter, which only ever increases. You ask why he has a filing cabinet on its side; all drawers scattered around and "CHAIRS" written in red across a single manilla envelope, but Rick doesn't feel inclined to answer.

"So you found me a way into the deadlands, huh? You never cease to amaze."

"It was easier said than done, had to call in a lot of favors and get pretty cloak and dagger, but in the end..."

"Smashing!" Comes a voice you don't recognize from a room close by, "Absolutely brilliant!"

You've never seen something like what comes out from that door. It's bizarre, shocking, and distinctly foreign.

"Are you a wizard?"

"Ah wut? Ya never seen ah walrus before, laddie?" The large, portly thing laughs which causes its large and wiry beard to dance around the two long tusks jutting down from either side of its mouth.

"Rick..." You start.

"Erik, McRae. McRae, Erik." Rick lazily introduces you.

"Jack, lad! Call me Jack! Rick, ah never thought ya'd be right but these are dandies of a bite." The walrus pops another handful of small fish into his mouth, chewing loudly.

"Right. I'm going to borrow Rick here for a minute."

You pull the centipede aside (or try, he's quite a bit taller than you) and head out of earshot. Jack offers a handful of fish to Karin, who politely refuses despite repeated offers.

"I know you've always been one for jokes, but really, Rick, a walrus? What the fuck is a walrus? How does that dude have anything to do with the deadlands? I thought you'd have some tunneling tank or something."

"A tunneling tank? Are you for real?"

"Not the one who brought along a walrus, here."

Rick sighs, clicking his mandibles, "Of course you wouldn't recognize him, but I'm sure you've heard of him. Think about it, Erik. McRae..."

"...Mad Ray Jack?" You finally ask, glancing back at the portly, mustachioed mammalian busying himself with a second can of fish. "THE Mad Ray Jack?"

"The one and the same, lad." The walrus answers for Rick. You thought you were out of earshot...

"...Eye lasers?" Karin gawks at your gall.

You're worried that there might be some kind of awkward silence caused by your failure to adhere to protocol dictating that you should, perhaps, apologize. Thankfully, Jack laughs so hard that a small fish head smacks against the wall of Rick's shop, where it sticks.

"Sorry ta disappoint, lad, but alas." McRae shakes his head, still beaming around his tusks, "ah have no such thing."

Damn. Well, you should have guessed. The trenches were always alight with stories and scuttlebutt about one thing or another. There had been more than one night talking about Mad Ray Jack, the one who single handedly snuck fifty miles into enemy territory to take out two generals. One soldier, claiming to have met him once, swore he could both shoot lasers from his eyes as well as move as silent as death.

Looking at the man himself... You see there's just no way either of those things would be possible.

"Anyways, Erik, McRae here has agreed to help you out getting into the deadlands."

"Ah'll take et from here, Rick mah boy. So ya need ta get inta tha deadlands, eh lad? Well that isn't so light a task as ya might think. There are sensors, guards, untold and unspeakable dangers around every tree..." Jack shakes his fists and head, "It's as harsh a place as ya can be."

You nod as you listen, "I know, I've heard the stories."

"Have ya now? Than why by tha cross are ya wantin ta go there? For some fanciful tale of a sword, lad?"

"It's the best shot I've got." You shrug.

"...Roight than, get all yur stuff ready, we'll be leavin tonight."

Karin could be good for translation/tech stuff, but she's not really cut out for fighting and a gentleman never leads his lady into danger. Plus, I don't think radiation suits come in echidna anyway.
>>
>>20637371
Essa. Only Essa.

On the serious note: Bill and Ivan. Only guys here that have repeatedly gone trough trials of fire, so you know that they won't break.

They definitely don't come in randomly-transforming.

Ok, then lets bring
[ ] Ivan
for brute strength
[ ] Bill
[ ] Tomoe
for when we need to get choppy and burnie (respectively)
[ ] Essa
I suppose we can get her to tag along to scout out the area, and for mad compooter skills
>>
>>20637069

[ ] Karin
[ ] Bill
[ ] Tomoe
[ ] Ivan
[ ] Essa

Or, rather, offer them all the choice. Tell them you understand if they choose not. You're the one with a month to live--they've got plenty left, and if they don't want to risk it, shit. You won't hold it against them, not in the least.

You want their help. But you understand, given everything, if they say no.

Even though they probably won't, because these people are basically our goddamn family.
>>
>>20637490
I'm not sure Essa is a good idea. Radsuits don't have wings, after all.
>>
Radiation suits are one-size-fits none, so taking anyone with extra appendages, random transformations or exceptional size is out. Ask Bill to come along, but I think Tomoe might have to stay behind. As awesome as taking the werebear would be, if he transforms for any reason at all he's dead.
>>
>>20637533
No need to transform if you lug enough firepower.
>>
>>20637544
Are involuntary transformations a thing? I suppose I should direct that one at Papa...
>>
>>20637533
Bill might have trouble with his wings/horns, too.

And come to think of it, so will we if we ever need to use our iceblades and whatnot.
...
This trip is gonna suck.
>>
>>20637559
Bill - Permanent horns that can shrink enough to fit under a hat, grow when aroused. Wings that can disappear entirely at will.

Ivan - Controlled growth(bearmode)

Essa - Permanent wing-arms

Tomoe - Permanent fluffy tails, can compact them against herself to some extent

Karin - Uncontrollable transformations snake/legs

So far the party makeup would be Ivan/Bill/Tomoe by vote
>>
>Bill - Permanent horns that can shrink enough to fit under a hat, grow when aroused.
Tomoe comes out in a skintight radsuit (just because), horns poke little holes in his suit, noone notices untill Bill's hair starts falling out from radiation poisoning four threads later.

Several hours after getting the news right from Mad Ray Jack that you'll be leaving tonight, you've gathered everyone up at your parent's home. That wasn't an easy task, either.

Bill and Tomoe were almost nowhere to be found until you'd spotted them dozing on a hill near a swath of forest burnt pitch black, along with what you think may have been at one point a house. They'd blathered something about fighting it but both had been more or less asleep even while talking. Even now they're both snoozing on the couch while Nadine glares daggers at the fluffy tailed foxgirl.

Essa had been... Fang-deep, as it were, in Ivan when you'd barged on into his house. Though the lights had been off so you hadn't been able to see much, and Ivan had sent you running when he'd thrown a whole couch your way. He wasn't really mad, just surprised is all. Though Essa can't seem to bring herself to look you in the eye now and still is wixing up her mords.

"Well now that everyone's finally here, and I'm sure you all know why, it's time to go over some stuff. First, I'm not going to ask any of you to come along. If you want to, that's your own thing, but I'm not opposed to going this alone in the least. Second, Karin you aren't allowed to go and Essa, I'm sorry but I don't think your arm wings would fit the suits."

"Why can't I go?!" Karin huffs, folding her arms and glaring. Both of her hair cobras writhe, reacting to her sudden anger.

You simply point down at the snake tail coiled underneath her.

"Yes, and?"

"Well if you can find a transforming radiation suit, you can come along."

"I tried to make one but couldn't get it to work..." She mumbles, clearly frustrated.

"I'm going." Ivan nods. "Same." Bill pipes up. Tomoe sighs but nods her head solemnly, "I have a duty to watch over my idiot betrothed."

"Betrothed?" You raise an eyebrow, "There are people who still use that word?"

"S-shut up..."

"The same goes for you, dummy." Karin prods you in the back with the end of her tail. She's becoming more and more dexterous with that thing.

"It's not like I've got a chance unless this pays off, so if I'm screwed, don't try to save me, save yourselves."

Karin and Tomoe almost say something before Bill cuts them both off, "You got it." They both give him harsh looks.

"What? It's what he wants and this is his show, we all know the risks."

"Which is why I want you all to stay as safe as you can, so again, no dumb shit." You nod, "Now, on to the plan."

Everyone in the room watches as Jack finishes off the last of the plate of fish in front of him (your mother had made them and he'd been devouring them ever since they finished cooking), belches loudly, and stands up.

"Tha deadlands is always under surveillance. Troops, cameras, sensors, ah can't even name all tha security. It won't be easy gettin in, or out, but if you do as ah say, we can make it."

"Tha lights, laddie."

At that, Saga leaps up from his seat using his tail as a spring and slithers quickly over to the lights. Still quite short, he has to boost himself up to his maximum height, with only a few inches of his tail on the ground, in order to reach the switch.

Edda, wearing one of your dad's old military caps which is so large for her that it almost covers her eyes, flicks the power switch to a projector.

A series of aerial and possibly satellite photographs pops up on the screen. You know there were pictures of the deadlands, but it's something else to see them all arranged like this. It's more or less as good of a topography map as you're going to get.

"Ya see the base here, an tha fence. But here, " Mad Ray Jack smacks the screen with an extendable pointer, "Is tha forest. Tha fence here isn't patrolled, because more than anywhere else on tha border, it's ta keep the stuff inside from gettin out instead a tha other way."

A forest full of unspeakable horrors... You've been somewhere like that before. A small shudder comes uncontrollably.

"Tha base area itself. Heavily guarded an none too quick to git through, either. But not so much of a chance to get eaten."

Another smack to the screen.

"An last, here. The very outside edge of tha fence. Ah never been there, nor any man who's ever talked 'bout it Ah don't know what's there, or isn't."

Jack pauses in thought, and twists a few strands of his mustache. Finally, he agrees, "Alright laddie. Ah can't say it's goona be a safe route but at least we can go by vehicle."

"You'll need something small and fast, right? I can help with that." Your dad says quite suddenly, you'd nearly forgotten he was in the room.

"We have something like that? Does it fly?"

"No. Remember those dirtbikes we found in that abandoned town? Well they still run and I haven't had anyone buy them yet, so might as well use them."

"Dirtbikes, huh?" You think about that for a few minutes. Sure, they are plenty fast and small, but they don't offer a ton of protection..."

"Spinny clod tossers? Aye, those should work." Mad Jack nods as Saga strains to turn the light back on.

"How close can we get by air?" Ivan asks openly, knowing that several people probably know the answer. Your dad is the first to talk, and he stands up to examine the map again, which is still visible as Saga seems to have pulled a tail muscle and can't reach the switch now.

"They'll have radar, but we can fly under it. The terrain looks pretty mountainous, we should be able to get within a few miles of that border area at least. Nowhere to land, though... You'll have to chute in."

I've been getting better and making a storyboard for the animation was a good practice. And there isn't really need to be jelous, since now I got all the time in the world. My esteemed employers came to the conclusion that there is no work for the rest of the year.

Everybody's getting laid off. Again.

Work starts again sometime next year. I'm seriously pondering about joining the legion at this point, after a friend said that it would probably fit me.

The lack of income is the reason why I can't do the animation, too. Not enough income, too many bills.
>>
"How does a slimegirl even get fat?" Bill looks even more confused now, "Why would they be any louder than a regular ol' slimegirl?"

"That's..." Nadine starts, catches herself and ends with "uh..."

You draw air in through your teeth, bite your lip, bounce your head from side to side, and than shake it. Bill doesn't appear any less out of the loop. "I'll tell you on the plane." You mouth to him.

***

"I hate..." You putts along the dirtbike in first gear, "This fucking..." Tomoe, screaming as the bike under her careens wildly, all of her tails extended and fluffed out in fear, goes sailing past you, "Plane..." You finish, looking up at it.

The An-26 is as textbook Soviet rear echelon aircraft as it gets. Creature comforts was not a usual thing for the Soviets. If a pilot was comfortable, he was lax. If passengers were comfortable, they wouldn't disembark more pissed off and ready to fight than when they boarded.

It's clunky to fly and not that fast, but you'll be damned if it ever breaks down. Sure, things go wrong, but that's why the "repair kit" (a monkey wrench, duct tape, and oil can) is on-board. But you don't care about that, because, hours from now, your back will be stiff and your muscles sore. Not in a good "survived six rounds with a centipede girl" sore, either. Sore like "I think these seats hate me" kind of sore.

You load up the bikes with the rest of them, though Ivan is the only one who carries his bike up the ramp instead of simply pushing it. You make sure everything else is on-board as well, the radiation suits, some supplies, that kind of thing.

"I've got to gas it on up and check it over, Erik. Why not hit the armory? Snag some extra ammo, too."

I already used my best "Yes!" picture, dammit... I'd really love to see the storyboard.

Man that sucks about getting laid off. Is the Legion the Finnish army? With as good as you are at drawing, it seems like you should be able to find some kind of job making advertisements and such. Probably wouldn't be steady work but it might help with bills.

I'm jealous because I could work on something for a year and it wouldn't come out half as good as one of your sketches.

I'll be releasing the first chapter of the Z&W rewrite in a few weeks once I get it completed, so that might give you something to look forward to?

As far as voice help goes, I'm not even sure how to go about recording something and the only mic I have is the one for my computer. I'm sure someone in these threads could do Last justice.

Hope you find some kind of work soon though. Job market still pretty bleak over there?

Bleak market for someone who fucked up high-school.
Don't know about doing artwork commissions. There's probably a way to do it, I've seen worse people get money for drawing, but it is something completely new for me.

The Legion is the nickname for french foreign legion. I really enjoyed my mandatory service in the finnish army, would have wanted to continue past that one year, but they didn't need me there. Going to the legion would be a stable job as a soldier for 5 years. Really starts to irk me when I can't make plans beyond 2 weeks with my current job.

Long time ago, I discovered a truly awful Mega Man Zero manga. I was learning to write jokes and stuff at the time for fun. So I decided to review this thing chapter by chapter, just like my favorite comedians at That Guy With The Glasses. (Don't worry, I've studied and practiced a lot since then. Completely different writing style now.)

That image was used in Chapter Six to show how happy I was at one of the useless characters about to die. Unfortunately, he was saved at the last minute. I won't link you the review since it sucks, but I'm glad to see that image floating about, before I knew about stuff like Paint.NET.
>>
Ahh the armory. That sweet smell of hoppes #9 and cosmoline that fills the whole place, and all of those beautiful firearms lining the walls. It's a beautiful sight to behold, you almost tear up.

A room you and your father have spent many a day filling up, going over, meticulously cleaning each weapon until it looks brand new. Well, as new as some of them can look.

Ivan's eyes are glued to an SVT40, one with a very nice stock that you'd picked up from somewhere in what used to be Canada. "It's lovely..." He mumbles as he touches the stock lightly.

"I think I'm just good with this..." Bill shrugs and pats the MP5K and sword that he always carries.

You see your G3, freshly cleaned, sitting on the work bench. Still, lots of selection here...

The G3 has been with you a long time, and she's seen you through some serious shit. Some people call her heavy, but .308 firepower in a light package doesn't work out that well anyway. She's no sniper rifle, but she can place hits all day at six hundred meters and you've pushed her well beyond that before.

You lovingly pick up the rifle and go about finding your mag carriers, capping off ten 20rd magazines and a fifty round drum. Though that would normally weigh you down, you'll be on a bike for at least part of the journey and you can always leave some behind if need be.

"Go ahead." You tell Ivan, who stops holding back and picks up the SVT and clutches it to his chest.

"Tomoe, here..." You hand her an AK74u, which is about as basic of a gun as you can think of. "It's easier than the MP5 was, I'll teach you on the plane."

As much as you love the G3, you recognize that the mountain might contain passages where a battle rifle would be too long to wield properly, you'll need something smaller as backup...

After much internal conflict, you just can't make up your mind. Weight be damned, sometimes a man just needs THREE GUNS.

So you pick up the FNP along with two extra mags, along with the Jatimatic and four mags for that.

"Jesus, Erik. Three guns?" Bill raises an eyebrow.

"Don't judge me over my fetishes."

Happily laden down with plenty of dakka and ammo, you make your way back outside. Your dad is busy firing up the engines of the big Soviet bird while Jack eats yet more fish. You wonder if he isn't so rotund simply because of his stomach, which must hold some twenty pounds or more of fish judging by how much he has eaten already.

"Erik, come here." Karin waves you over, and once you're close enough, shoves something on your head and stuffs something larger than a brick into a side pocket of your carrier.

"Err..."

"It's a high powered radio, so we can communicate. The battery won't last all that long with constant use, so save it for things that are important. I'll be here with the maps and everything else we have, and I'll do my best to help any way I can."

Even as she berates you about how to use it, statistics and figures you don't comprehend, and other such useless data, she leans against your chest. "Now don't be stupid, get what you need and come home..."

"She means that! I mean that!" Your mother hounds you.

"Alright, I get it, I get it!"

Kiss Karin on the cheek and grab mom's ass.

Or not, whatever.

>>
Ivan's and Essa's parting words are so quiet you can barely hear them as Karin keeps on complaining while she smothers you.

"Well, I guess I'll be off." Ivan says rather awkwardly, fidgeting when he notices you and Bill both watching him knowingly.

"Did I pack you enough food? You remember everything you needed?" Essa frets, staring down at the impressive basket at his side. Ivan nods simply.

"Then, um... I'll be waiting for you..." Despite her red cheeks, she stands up on her tip-toes to plant a kiss on Ivan's cheek (he had to crouch down a bit for that to work). She lands back down and looks around at everyone watching, before lowering her head so her hair hides her face.

The air is quiet. Too quiet.

"Time to go find a magical sword!" You exclaim quite suddenly, planting a kiss on Karin's forehead and almost slapping your mom on the behind. Re-acquiring target...

"Ow!" Karin jolts forward from the impact, "What the hell was...."

But you're already sprinting up the ramp and into the An-26, feeling both giddy and so nervous you might lose your lunch if you aren't careful.

"I can still talk to you over this, dumbass..."

Ah shit, you forgot about the radio...
>>
The big craft takes its sweet time climbing to altitude. There's quite a ways to go yet, the flight quite a long one even before you'll have to drop below radar altitude. While you're not sure how to pass the time, the others seem to lack that problem.

Ivan, realizing this might be his last opportunity before donning the radiation suit, has gotten to work. That work being downing copious amounts of vodka, along with handfuls of home made food. He offers both around, but the rest of you don't have much for appetite. Except for Jack, who sees that there is no fish and declines.

Tomoe, having brought a sleeping bag and pillow along, has chosen to curl up on seat next to Bill and fall asleep. Probably a smart thing to do, but you don't think you could fall asleep no matter how hard you tried.

"So what was that thing about fat slimegirls?" Bill finally asks, after messing with Tomoe's ears enough to confirm she's quite out.

"Well yeah... See, slimes are basically made of water and protein, right? Well I've heard that if you, you know, give them a lot of "protein" and a lot of water, then they get fat. Just stuff I've heard." You laugh, scratching your neck before changing the subject to how much the seats suck.

Better they don't know about that time you purposely went on a mission just to see what happens when you give a slimegirl as much protein as you could produce in six hours in that hotel jacuzzi. You have a SLIGHT fetish for "curvy" slimegirls and wanted to see how far you could take it. "Uwah! I've never jiggled this much!" She'd said.

Not something anyone on this plane, or anyone else you know for that matter, will ever find out. You'll take that to the grave, even if it's an early one.

All too quickly, your dad has the plane on a swift decent until you're flying alarmingly low. You're glad you've known him long enough to know how skilled of a pilot he is, otherwise you'd be even more concerned. Which would be pretty fucking concerned, because you're seriously freaking out, man.

"This is too low!" You point out the cockpit side window, "We are LOWER than these mountaintops!"

"Eh? You're not one to usually gripe over flying low, or dangerously for that matter." Your dad cocks an eyebrow.

"Yeah, not on my jetbike because it can do that kind of shit! This old Soviet rustbucket? Not so much made for this kind of thing!"

"Yer goona haff ta tough it out, laddie, we've a long ways ta go."

A long ways to go? That doesn't even BEGIN to describe it. A long ways would be one thing, this cannot possibly even remotely be described as such. This is "a long ways" big ugly cousin who has long black chin hairs, wears wolverine boots, and can bench press more than all but a few guys at the gym.

"Fuuuuccckkkk...." You groan, trying desperately to get comfortable, to no end. Ivan and Bill have at least found some comfort. Bill having somehow magicked himself into the sleeping bag with Tomoe, she now snoozing gently against his chest.

Ivan is sprawled out in his bearform, snoring loud enough for you to hear while spooning the SVT40.

Your dad and Mad Ray Jack are busy sharing war stories, most of which you've heard from your father. Jack's stories all seem to, in one way or another, involve salted fish of some iteration. You aren't really following along.

Despite a few repeated attempts, you never do get an answer to that.

Instead, with one final bank, your father signals to wake everyone up. "We're almost there, you'd better get ready."

You do exactly that, getting a few grumbling complaints out of Bill. Tomoe awakens without further comment. Ivan blathers something in Russian and looks disgruntled and half-asleep, now sitting upright and rubbing his face against the SVT.

Unzipping the large duffel near your feet, you begin to pass around the radiation suits. Bulky, heavy, and disturbingly unwieldy, you wonder how anyone got much done in these. The filtration system on the mask alone is enough to make you balk, connecting all the way around to a substantial backpack unit. It takes ten or so minutes of curse-ridden struggling to get it, and the rest of your gear, on as comfortably as you can. Which is not comfortably at all.

"I don't think these things were made for combat..." Bill comments dryly after belting up his sword.

*snerk*

Tomoe, hand to her face, has turned away and appears to be attempting to stifle her laughter.

"What?" Bill asks, turning toward you, "What?!"

"The hat, Bill. The hat."

The Incubus, pausing for a brief moment in time, removes his hat with an air of finality. As he sets it down on the seat next to him, he does so with longing eyes.

"Quit being so melodramatic, you don't want it irradiated, do you?"

"...No..." He relents.

"...Ivan, you need to suit up too."

"What? The vodka protects me, ya?"

"No... No, that's an urban legend."

Ivan bearly manages to squeeze his massive frame into the suit, which manages to contain him, if only bearly. On the rest of you it appears rather normal, on Ivan, it's nearly skintight.

"You guys need to drop anytime now, we can't risk getting much closer to their radar, or flying into the irradiated zone." Your dad informs you, and dutifully all of you start to pack up. You're not sure when Jack suited up, nor how he found a suit with tusk protectors, but it happened.

The ramp drops on the big An-26 and it becomes incredibly hard to hear anything but the rotors and wind. You grab hold of the dirtbike even as you adjust the large pack on your back.

Mad Jack jumps first, just leaps out with a "cheerio!"

Ivan follows next, then Bill and Tomoe together.

You ready yourself and take a deep breath. For as much as you enjoy flying them, you've never been one for jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

"Erik!" Your father calls out, and you turn around to look, "Make it back."

You just nod. That's all you had to do.

Then, you're falling.
>>
Damn you hate falling.

The string of obscenities pouring out of your mouth would make a sailor blush as your pathetic meatbag self picks up speed for a few seconds before you remember "hey dummy, you're like, pretty low man. Pull the chute, dude."

Fuck!

You rip on the cord and wince as the sudden force is reversed when the chute catches and starts slowing you down. You have to use your thighs and hands both to hang onto the dirbike, lest it drop out from under you and explode into trea... pieces.

"You know I heard all of that, just now."

"Yeah? Well next time we go on a date, let's see how you react when you jump out of a plane."

Staring at the ground longingly only makes it come slower, but at last the tires connect with the sand below and you go limp to avoid injury. The bike falls on its side and you a meter or so from it, before coming to rest. Pulling the chute in quickly, you stuff it back into the pack as best you can before ditching the whole thing and righting the dirtbike.

The others are already waiting for you, gathered around Tomoe who is sitting with her arms between her legs and visibly shaken.

"What's up with her?" You ask as you walk the bike over to the group.

"I think she peed her pants."

"I-I did NOT!!"

"Roight then, children. Ah don't fancy sittin 'ere all day, time ta go." Jack breaks up your fun, and to emphasize, fires up his own bike after slinging the retro M16a1 over his shoulder.
>>
>>20641759
During this mission Bill is officially banned from standing near Tomoe. It'll make his horns grow which'll break his suit and irradiate him. So for his safety they're going to have to be at different positions in the convoy, we'll put Ivan between them.

As soon as you rev up the small but spunky engine of your own dirtbike, the woes of the plane ride all disappear rather quickly. You're transformed from a young man worried about ice cancer, back into the little boy who nearly got expelled for getting found making out with a dullahan head (her body was still in the lunchroom).

The effects seem rather similar for Bill and Ivan, both of whom make no effort to conceal how much they are enjoying themselves as they bounce over the rough terrain.

Tomoe, it would seem, is the only one decidedly NOT having fun.

"H-How are you even supposed to steer these things?!"

You wince as she nearly goes over the handlebars, barely managing to stop short of slamming into a rather large boulder.

Maybe you should have taught her more than just how to OPERATE the AK74u you'd given her. Probably didn't need as much instruction as you'd given her. After all, an AK is basically rock in mag, pull and release charging handle, fire. Simple as dirt.

The five of you manage to arrange yourselves nearly an arms length apart as you shred across the rather barren scape. It isn't long before the geiger counter at your side informs you that it's a bad idea to...

Wait...

"How the fuck are we supposed to take a leak in these?"

"Err...."

"Ummm..."

"W-we have to..."

"Ya gotta piss yer knickers an hope ya git dun before ya fill tha suit!" Jack seems all too happy to inform the rest of you, shouting just loud enough that all of you can hear.

Tomoe nearly topples off her bike, only just managing to stay upright. "That is absolutely disgusting."

"Man, that is all kinds of wrong." Bill shakes his head.

"At least I'm kinda used to pissing on my own leg." You shrug.

Four heads turn toward you, though you can't really make out their expressions through the suits, and you briefly flick off the radio.

"Long story short, it was a strange night with a werewolf chick and I don't want to talk about it. Excuse me for mentioning it."

Those are some pretty great names. I'm not a huge lager guy but I'll see if the expensive import store near me has any of those. I think that Fosters, much like Heineken, just skunks on the way here so the taste is off. That's what gramps thought, anyways.

"No, please, do go on." Ivan snorts.

"Really? Well she was into the whole alpha wolf thing so I just uh... waitaminute...." You see Ivan barely containing his laughter, needing to turn his head away just to conceal it.

"Man, this thing is going nuts..." You whistle, looking down at the geiger counter and trying to change the subject. Still within the limits of the suit, but certainly nothing you'd want to be outside and exposed to.

"Alpha wolf!" Ivan snorts he's laughing so hard.

"We're gettin close ta tha deadlands itself, best keep awake now." Mad Jack warns, "Jokes an pissin on lasses can wait."

With a bit of coordination over the mic with Karin, spotting out landmarks and estimating distances, you soon find out that you're already two miles into the deadlands by this point. Jack shrugs it off with a "Ah thought we was close."

"You'll need to keep heading southeast, toward that mountain range that should be in front of you. You'll find a river at about the halfway point, I don't think there are any bridges so you'll have to find another way across." Karin informs you over the radio.

>>
Before you can even reply, Jack has tipped his bike hard sideways and scrambled toward a pile of rocks close to him.

"Ah patrol, git down!"

You can see how they got close without you spotting them or them seeing you. The low hills here would make seeing anything more than a few hundred yards away difficult.

"I thought there wouldn't be any out here!" You hiss as the rest of you shut off the bikes and clamor over to Jack's position as quickly as you can.

"Ah said ah didn't think so, lad. Can't know for sure!"

You chance a peek over the rocks and see that the military trucks are headed right at you, or close enough to make you sweat. At best they'll detain you and for sure force you to leave, at worse they'll shoot you and that will be that.

Either way, that would mean no magic sword of ice cancer cure +1 for you.

[X] Try to stay hidden in the rocks and hope they pass

Even if we take them out they might hit us or break the rad suits, that would be very bad.

Hide. Absolute last thing we want is to give anyone any cause to poke holes in our radiation gear.

Really we can't risk the radiation gear.

I'd a Granberia, as I've always been a bit of a sucker for girls with swords. Motoko probably had something to do with that, which is more than fine.

So I'm going to be starting a 4e campaign soon, and I can't help but notice that Fighter (Always best class) is really good, and that Dragonkin are A Thing. I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this.

Good/bad idea? Do/do not? Am I That Guy for wanting to do this?

>playing Oregon Trail on old as fuck mac
>name party members after family
>everybody dying off

That's really the only memory I have of 1st grade other than meeting my first friend at elementary school because we both liked to draw star wars space battles and talk about military shit
>>
>>20642357
Our generation? If we had an iconic childhood game experience, that almost everyone around our age had, would be Oregon Trail.
>>
>>20642349
I've never actually had a chance to play D&D. I tried once but it was with a group of people I didn't know that well and it fell apart all too quickly.

I'd much rather play with someone playing Granberia than some sparkly dragonkin who has some stupid elaborate backstory with all kinds of cliches.

Just be like "yeah, I'm a dragonkin woman, and? Talk more shit and we can see how great my sword feels in your skull holes."

I'd like to have more experience on pen and paper style stuff, but unfortunately it's never worked out for me. Haven't even played a game of 40k TT in months, as the closest LGS to me closed and the next closest one is over half an hour away and is 98% magic card tournaments.

Yeah and putting the T-rex in a wooden pen in Dino Tycoon, I recall fondly doing things like that. Or making some hellish series of islands in Roller-coaster Tycoon where park goers would be trapped for years with $15 bathroom fees.

"Kiss the dirt and don't fucking move." You tell the others, taking your own advice. You get as low down as you can, wedging yourself in-between two larger rocks and trying your best to make like a loli and be flat.

You can hear the clanking diesel engine of the patrol vehicle now, as it gets closer. So close. Too close.

"Fuck me, this is a boring job." One of the soldiers groans as he gets out of the truck and stretches out.

"No shit. How the hell did we pull this again?"

"I don't know about you, but I got caught with booze. Again. I'm on deadland patrol for the next week."

"Ahhh shitty man. Well at least the deathworms haven't started surfacing yet, right?"

"I dunno man, I guess. I could use some excitement right about now."

You do everything but hold your breath as you listen to the two soldiers talk, barely ten feet from you now. You can't even look to see what the others are doing, too afraid that moving your head might cause even the softest of sounds and be enough for the soldiers to hear. Instead, you simply choose not to move at all.

"Deathworms as excitement? Well I gue..." The patrolling trooper is cut off by the hiss of static from his radio, "Say again?" He asks.

"Yeah no, we're a few clicks from there. What? How soon? Oh. Yeah we'll head back, then." He speaks back and forth with his radio. You really wish you could have heard the other half of the situation.

The two soldiers pile back into their armored truck and, firing up the tired diesel engine again, get back on the trail. You wait until they're two hundred yards off before sighing audibly and pushing yourself out of the sand.

"Well that was a close one." Bill laughs with a distinct nervous twinge.

"Ah think we're jus a few kilometers from tha mountain. We should push before night." Jack stands up and brushes off his suit, reaching up to his face as though to tug at his mustache before realizing that's an impossibility.

Back on the bikes again, picking up from where you were so rudely interrupted, you start to make good time. The ground flattens out and there are fewer and fewer rocks that you have to swerve around. Though the further you go, the more your geiger counter warns of the danger present.

"What do you think those soldiers were talking about?" You ask Jack in particular, who shrugs, having either not heard you, or not knowing any more than you do.

"The deathworms are just superstitious rumor propagated by nut-cases. At least, that's what I can discern from some of the reports about them. They're almost never described the same, which in the scientific world means they are probably a hoax. As for the rest of what they were talking about, I have no idea." Karin speaks up, and you realize she might have been listening over the radio this whole time. Probably because you accidentally had it keyed on this whole time, the battery indicator on the side having now changed to orange from green.

That would concern you more only if you hadn't seen it. The great mountain, topped with a jagged, snow-crested peak. Though set in the middle of others, it is far taller and far more romantic, for lack of a better word. Trusting your Frost instincts, if you were about to build a fortress, THAT would be the mountain you'd pick.

I sometimes wish I was born earlier so I can experience the great gems of yesteryear like oregon trail. This, along with some games for my old Compaq, I've had fond memories of
>>
>>20642633
I personally regret not being born a few years earlier, that I might have played Super Metroid on the SNES.
>>
>>20642633
Oregon trail was around for a while, you never played it as a kid?
>half of your allotted tonnage being guns/ammo was the GOAT loadout

"Hey Karin, can you confirm that the mountain we're looking for is set east of two smaller ones, the big one having a snow capped peak?"

"Hang on." Karin makes you wait for another minute before replying further, "I think so? It's hard to tell from just these photos, but I think you're looking at the right one."

Excellent. Your innate sense of direction as a man did its duty in leading you along the way. You can't even count that brief question to Karin as asking directions. You knew you were looking at the right place, you just wanted her to know you'd seen it. Yeah, that was it.

"Cool, we've just got to get past this series of small ridges and then we hit the river, right?"

It's at least thirty seconds later before Karin responds. "Ridges? Maybe I don't know where you're at. I don't see any ridges."

"Eh? Maybe they just don't show up on the aerial photos. They're here, maybe eight feet across and four feet high. Quite a few of them around here, should maybe look like some kind of lattice on your end?"
>>
"Erik...." Bill turns toward you.

"Still not seeing anything that would resemble that... I mean, this photo is old but... I don't know, I'm just not seeing anything like that." Karin sounds a bit exasperated now.

"Uh... Erik....?" Bill speaks again.

Finally you turn toward him, slightly annoyed he seems to be interrupting you for nothing. He's just staring at one of the ridges, when he should be trying to help you spot a landmark or something.

"What?" You finally ask.

"I don't think... I don't think these are ridges..."

They're death worms, aren't they?

They're death worms.

Alright, I'm seriously starting to nod off in my chair here. It's either the gin, lack of sleep, or the sound of the rain, but I'm falling asleep. Wanted to keep going but my body is betraying me.

Going to call it a night here, but I'll try to maintain a better schedule from here. Anything before I crash?

Papa, I've been too busy to be in your threads lately, but I must say;

Take care, dude.

Though, out of curiosity, you find out what was up with your landlord?
>>
>>20642726
No sadly, grew up rather below middle class shall we say when I was little. Plus we never bought that many games until around 3'rd grade, and by then I moved to an american base in Japan when my dad was still in the navy and the only games they sold were for PS2 and Xbox.

Sandworms do not spiral! They move along steady. This is explicitly discussed in the book.

Burt was one of my childhood heroes. I was heartbroken to learn that the actor is actually a rabid anti-gun person.

The entire story, no. Some serious drug charges is all I really know. I took over my sister's lease when they moved back down to their campus. Been searching around for a bigger place with a real yard, though, I think I'm ready for another dog.

>>20642790
Yeah I know how it is to be like that. By the time I got a computer that wasn't running DOS, Windows95 had came and went. Used to play the shit out of the original Prince of Persia, Castle Wolfenstein, and Dragon's Lair.

I'm just a few hours away from Canada, but I think I need a passport to get there now? If I ever make it out there I'll make it known.

Thread has been going for a while, hasn't it? Really enjoyed your drawings, always do. Let me know on the twitter what you need voiced and I'll see if I can help.

Anyways, I'm shutting down for the night. As always, you stay classy, /tg/.
