One and a half years ago, you were a Magical Girl.

Looking at you, though, it's clear that you're not quite the norm. Magical Girls are supposed to be pictures of cute, burgeoning femininity, maidens dressed in frilly gowns of bright solid colors. They are not supposed to have hands that belong to a giant demonic skeleton; or legs that belong on some overpowered survival horror videogame boss.

They are also not supposed to have eyes that belong to something that should only be looked at from within a circle of protection, with purity wards plastered all over the place.

Magical Girls are not supposed to be monsters.
>>
>>20709419

But even beyond those, anyone can look at you and say that you're...unique, in a way. For someone who's supposed to be just a year shy of high school senior age, you're tall - enough to tower over everyone else in the Officio, even when untransformed (the legs do add a handful of inches, which you do not mind at all).

Despite your less than gentle upbringing in a gulag managed solely by your father, your figure filled out rather nicely, and you've managed to take care of your hair enough that you could let it grow out and not worry about it frizzling at random times during the day.

Your skin, pale enough to draw comparisons with porcelain and fresh milk, is free of blemish - if you overlook the scars you've earned during your career, that is, but you can easily hide them under your clothes, so they are a moot point.

These are all fine, though. You are not ashamed of them. Far from it, you've made it quite the habit to flaunt these differences that set you apart from the standard Magical Girl, to distinguish yourself from the rest of the magical masses. Not that you need any help standing out, of course, with your hands and legs being just slightly on the wrong side of rapey - but you'd be lying if you denied that they didn't help in any significant way on your path to becoming the 9th Incubator's Warmaster.

>>
>>20709423

What you know never helped was your tongue.

Your slightly-longer-than-average tongue, which Malal herself had described as something out of a fetish video. It doesn't really cause you any problems with swallowing or talking or so on, and you can taste just fine with it - but you're secretly ashamed of it. Even if you're the only one in the Officio who could lick her own elbow, or the tip of her nose. You even scared a few novices with it, after inadvertently letting them see you eat ice cream off a cone.

Well, they looked scared, but they were blushing when they ran off, so.

Yes, this is your deep dark secret. Your tongue. You're sensitive about it enough that your aide even uses it to poke fun at you.

You are hilariously pathetic.

You should tell your aide to make a note for you: to find a better deep, dark secret for you to keep. If she cannot find one, she has to make one.

Because you do not want anyone to talk about your longer than average tongue after you die.

Freakishly long body parts aside, you are Valnikov Kharn, current Warmaster of the 9th Incubator's Officio Assassinorum. You have a thousand Magical Girls under your command. Your favorite weapon is a two-meter long black chainsword with monomolecular teeth. You fondly call it Skulltaker in public and lovingly maintain it in private. You have an almost unhealthy fondness of Jolly Roger sour candy, skulls and blonde women. You like to take it easy as much as you can.

And you are about to ask your Incubator's permission to go to all-out war.

Or well, waiting to ask him, anyway. He's on a call.

It's the reason why you've invaded his office. Even after being trained from day one that it is not a place to blithely barge into, no matter your rank or reason for doing so. The rather pretty girl at the receptionist's desk had tried to put up a token resistance at your arrival, but you simply waved her away, promising her that she won't get in trouble for your flagrant disrespect of authority.

Kyuubey, of course, is understandably irritated. At least, you think so, by the way he seems to nod at your arrival before continuing to talk to whoever it is he's talking to on his headset of his, while in front of his multi-screen computer thing. You wonder if he had his headset custom-made for him. It seems to be, you're not sure if a normal one will actually fit him properly.

Well, maybe he's not irritated at all, but you can never really tell with these mutant cats.

You let out a sigh. You are no good with waiting.

What do you do?

Ok, here is something I've been thinking about from the last trend.

What happened is that the third incubator staged a fake rescue mission and his squads were ordered to stab ours in the back.

However the thing is was that they were ordered to leave Mami alive.
Why do they want Mami? What is so special about her?

Thinking back, QB mentioned that the other incubators were getting reports of the gold weapons. It must have been found out by now that while gold weapons are dangerous, gold weapon welders are deadly.

So the possible motive of the third incubator is that he somehow heard about Mami's gold weapon and wanted to add her to his arsenal
>>
>Kharn self-conscious about length of tongue

Can she be any more adorable?
>>
>>20709536

I thought the implication was that there was no order to leave Mami alive, the MG team leader just wanted to leave her alive as a rape slave. For a while, at least.
>>
>>20709536
We don't know it was the incubator, and we're just assuming the warmaster was in on it.
No reason not to juice them anyway!
>>
>Long, presumably prehensile tongue

>>
>>20709603
The itinerary a couple threads ago only said that Kharn was to meet with their Warmaster to discuss Murderface's little murder spree. Other people weren't mentioned, but that doesn't rule them out.

I'd be amused we both went into the meeting plotting to take out the enemy Warmaster. My bet would be on Kharn even if this weren't a flashback.
>>
>>20709603
I am basing on statistical probability.

Blowjobs are much more common than prostate tonguing or tongue deep-throating.

You shift your weight from leg to bladed leg, before inching ever so carefully and slowly to the side, insinuating yourself into the sphere of privacy that Malal had learned, long ago, to forget ever enjoying whenever you are around. You manage to do this to the point that you are literally mashing yourself up against the side of your shorter and definitely more reliable aide - and to her credit, she is holding up against this stark intrusion of personal space very well, even if the side of her helmet is basically being pressed against two soft yet insistent, leather-encased intruders.

"Kharn?" She says after a moment, not missing a beat in typing out what looks to be random numbers, phrases and letters onto the tablet. You're not at all in league with computers or this kind of technology, but you do recognize that she seems to be coding something. Some sort of program, but that's as far as you can tell.

"Yes, Malal?"

"...Remember the talk we had about my respecting my personal space?"

You nod. "Yes, of course I remember."

"And what did we learn, then?"

"That I will never, ever respect your personal space no matter how much you beg or plead?" You say, smiling down at her.

A bereaved sigh, and some muted grumbling. "You snow shoveling yokel."

"Nebbish seaweed-eating pleb."

A moment of silence, with the exception of Kyuubey's muted murmurings into his headset.

"Malal," You whisper, secretly, conspiratorially. "Malal."

"Hm?"

"What is that you are doing on your tablet?"

"Coding. Something I picked up." The Culexus doesn't miss a beat in her tactile input. "Trying to make sure that everything I do on this thing is secured by multiple passwords. This way, if it gets stolen, any pertinent information in here is locked away." She shrugs her shoulders. "Don't really know if it'll actually work, but it's a nice way to spend the time."

You rap your knuckles gently on her helmet. "You are such a nerd, sometimes, Malal."

"Yes, well, some of us have other interests than getting other Magical Girls into bed during downtime, Kharn." The smile on your aide's voice is clear despite the vox-corruption. "And no, I'm not going to join in the next time. I'm not into blondes. I prefer a different shade of curtains."

That is much too bad, but Malal will be Malal.

You open your mouth to retort when Kyuubey clears his throat, one paw reaching up to pull down the headset, letting the contraption fall onto his neck.

"If you two have finished with the gutter humor, I am ready to receive you, as...sudden as this impromptu meeting is." Kyuubey's chair swivels around automatically, the large black leather seat turning to reveal the Incubator, the multiple screens behind him switching off. "Kharn. Malal. What do I owe the dubious pleasure of this visit?" Much like a cat, he clumsily pulls the headset off of his neck. "That was the Warmaster of the Eighth, by the way. She sends her regards, and hopes that you'll stay alive long enough for her planned sabbatical to Japan next year or so."

Hnh. It's been a while since you heard from Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake.

You should probably tell her to bring you a bag of Jolly Rogers before she flies here all the way from the Americas, yes? You nudge Malal for it, and she grumbles that she'd already made the note.

"Well? What is it, Kharn?" Kyuubey says after a moment, tilting its head slightly as it looks at you. "Surely you've got a reason for barging in here? I would assume it's important, more than making the Fourteenth Incubator's Warmaster miss her flight."

And that confirms that he's irritated. You should probably be careful.

How do you reply?

I have determined that teh "Incident" with Girl A and the THrid's eversors was a setup, intended to kill our Mami, And was foiled in messy, efficient fashion by Girl A. Appropriate punishments have been handed out, excepting the need to kill the Thirds forces. All of them.

"I have interrogated Girl A, and Mami Tomoe. The joint operation with the Third Incubator's forces were a set-up; Girl A overheard them planning to backstab our squad, and being unable to communicate with her squad leader, took independent action to terminate them before they became a threat.
"Now, I want to go over there and kill everyone they have and take apart the Third."

Actually, wait, the Third's an Incubator. How do we kill him? Destroying his body just means he pulls another one out of storage.

Kyuubey seems to blink at just what you've said, the gravity of your words not exactly sinking in as quickly as you hoped they would, but at least they're getting there. "Those are very serious accusations, Valnikov Kharn. Accusations that you don't throw around lightly. Just like a complete mobilization order isn't something you generally talk about haphazardly, even in jest."

Malal glances at you, before stepping forward with her tablet. "Sir, I do have the recorded statements of Girl A and Mami Tomoe here. I can play them back for you, if you'd like--"

Kyuubey shakes his head. "Kharn, what you are suggesting is that my own brother has conspired against me. The Third Incubator is one of the few in this misbegotten planet that I trust; he arrived here long before I did and helped me get started." Despite the obvious indignation in his words, Kyuubey's voice does not change from its young, inquisitive tone at all, making you wonder if he is simply reading from a script or not actually equipped to convey emotion. "As trustworthy as Tomoe Mami's word is, I find it difficult to sanction a complete purging of my brother's Officio, simply because of a rescued urchin finding a reason to murder three Eversor Squads."

Another sigh, before Kyuubey looks down pensively at the floor, tail swishing back and forth, almost in a mesmerizing fashion.

"Did Tomoe Mami hear these threats herself? Or was this something that Girl A herself told you, only?"

>>
>>20710076

I think that there may be a greater plot behind all this. Perhaps the information that Murderface overheard was falsified? Or Malal is misleading Kharn and planting evidence for ominous reasons not known to us?

For someone like Kharn to be exiled and stripped of her rank (and given a nasty title that she bears willingly), it must have been something serious. Being subverted by her closest subordinate and executing an unjust purging of an allied Officio on false evidence would probably qualify.
>>
>>20709997
All very important, I had forgotten some of that stuff. Hopefully most of it won't take too long.
>>20710076
I think it could be something along those lines.
For a moment I thought The Betrayer title might be something to do with this war we might engage in. My original theory was that Murderface had done something, like killing Malal or a load of innocents, and then Kharn had taken the rap for her.

Given that we know that whatever makes Kharn go to Siberia doesn't happen for something like six months though, it's much more difficult to say. All I can guess is that it involves the 'hunting' they went on.
>>

How would Malal have gotten Murderface to say what the eversors said though
>>
>>20709973
KYUUBEY HAS THE DRAGONBALLS
>>
>>20710134

You blink at this, before turning to Malal for confirmation. She shakes her head, and you reply accordingly. No, Tomoe did not here these threats, because she was a floor above. She did confirm the Eversor Squads being lax in moving to help them, though--

"We do not wipe out a single Officio because of incompetence, no matter how much that's justifiable." Kyuubey cuts you off. "I will require more proof to sanction this purge." The Incubator shakes its head, and for the first time you are struck by how disturbing the effect of its unchanging facial expression when it's clear that Kyuubey is quite incensed. "Otherwise, we will consider this matter settled and forgotten. Chalk it up to incompetence, or simply negligence due to complacency. I will arrange for Tomoe Mami to have an armed escort in the meantime."

How do you respond?
>>

In this highly speculative and tin-foil hatted situation, Malal didn't force Murderface to say anything. In this instance, she may have had a Culexus (or Callidus?) subordinate tailing them undetected, and mimicked one of the Eversor's voices and revealed the falsified ambush plans.

In the interest of being one of the two people that actually LIKES Kyuubey, he has a point.

>>
>>20710281
You forgot
>over eager rookie girl who is to be Murderface
>>
>>20710251
Quite a number of anons suggested it. And QB has a point. We have only the word of one Magical Girl who is known to have a spotty memory and is untrustworthy, and even if we mobilized the entire Officio we would end up with many casualties from the action, weakness that other Officio's not allied with us could take advantage of.
>>
>>20710294
It keeps getting better.
>>
I see this as less Kyuubey letting "feelings" get in the way of things, and more his alien logic telling him that his brother has no logical reason to betray him. Why would incubators do something so silly that makes no sense?

Obviously, what we need to investigate is a reason why this incubator would actually want to bother us.
>>
>>20710201
"Additionally, the entire scenario is.... odd. Three squads for a purge, and no captive girls were ever found. Mami said the Third's squads did very little to assist in the mission, as well. I do not mean to malign your brother, but perhaps his underlings may not have as pure a cause."
>>
>>20710201
We might be happier at just getting straight to the skulls, but let it not be said that Kharn doesn't know how get the approval for them.

Ask permission to launch an investigation on any connection left of the Third's former yakuza allies. We'll want anything that leads back to the Third striking some kind of deal with their heads or even using them just for this particular incident.
There was no captured magical girl as claimed, so we should question the Third back on that and see how it reacts. If it insists that the girl is still missing, we should insist on participating on the investigation and rescue for them under the pretense of 'making up for the incident'. This time we'll send the absolute best plus Murderface, and not tell them who.
>>
>>20710297
No she has amnesia but she seems quite clear about what happened, what she did and why.
Just because she can't remember her own past doesn't meant she remembers nothing at all.
We do need more proof though

Also I just realized that since Kharn is telling this to Chiaki as a story she probably described the fact that she invaded Malal's personal space quite graphically and it makes me think the Chiaki is sitting there wondering if she needs to go into such detail

"As I said. Incompetence, malicious or otherwise, is not enough of a justifiable reason for a complete mobilization." Kyuubey's voice seems to carry the note of exasperation despite the fact that he'd begun to paw at his headset, much like a curious cat would a strange object. "You are talking about a thousand Magical Girls being set out to eradicate another thousand. The collateral damage here would be astounding, no matter how carefully we plan it. If you want to commit us to such an event, then it very well should be for a solidly-defensible reason."

After a moment, he looks up at you. "But I did not choose you as Warmaster just to discard your opinion, Valnikov Kharn. I value your insight - I'm sure you did not just posit this course of action merely because of emotion, or your strange hobby regarding skulls. Japan is...getting a bit small. I have heard that a cousin of mine, the Tenth, has officers working here in this city. My city." The two perfectly-round crimson eyes blink, slowly. "I am already sharing my territory with the Third. It's a question of when, not if, that I will have to take action and get some...leg room back, as you say."

Another sigh. "Still, we must look to move on from this...mess. Take consideration, at the very least, that we've eliminated any seditious elements from an allied Officio's payroll. Girl A did kill every single one of the suspected squads, didn't she? Then we have our pound of flesh. Consider that as payment. Whatever their impure intentions were, we can say that we have chastised them more than enough for their folly."

[1/2]
>>
>>20710776

At your mention of your impending meeting with the Third Warmaster, he nods. "Yes, of course I know about that. I'm the one who had Malal remind you of it, anyway." He glances at the Culexus at your side, before returning his gaze to you. "If you are still bent on this course of action, then I'm sure you can get it out of her from your meeting with her. Should you find out anything of note, contact me at once and we'll make a decision together."

It's then that Kyuubey blinks. "Speaking of Girl A's termination - I received two rather interesting updates to the payroll just a few moments earlier. The first was Girl A being declared deceased. Executed on the premises. The second one came no ten seconds later, with a new contractee named Murderface." Kyuubey's seat swivels to face his multiple-screened workdesk, and the wall beyond Kyuubey lights up to display Girl A's profile alongside Murderface's.

The former having long hair and a rather dead expression, the latter a stunned, deer-in-the-headlights look, with a rather unprofessional haircut that ended her hair just above shoulder length.

Other than that, though, they look very identical to each other. As if they were almost the same person.

The alien cat, as you have long since figured out, does not have a sense of humor.

"Girl A" was an emotionless robot of a magical girl that was unremarkable other than the circumstances of her rescue. She has died as a direct consequence of her actions and by my hand.

"Murderface" is a magical girl who shows commendable loyalty to her squad mates AND managed to kill several squads of Eversors alone (without getting scratched). She was discovered not long after Girl A was executed. If trained and socialized properly, I believe that she could be an asset to this Officio.

Evenin' fa/tg/uys. Just figured I'd drop in to let you know that, while I have been forcibly separated from my scanner, this state of affairs will be remedied Saturday, so I should have the cleaned up Murder Baron art for you, next thread. I've got the blueline done, just nowhere to scan the damn thing.

You nod at Kyuubey and give him your best smile. You tell him, without being too blithe about it, that you have very high hopes for your recruit. After all, you've got the sneaking suspicion that she could take on three Eversor Squads on her own if she felt so inclined. You also mention that you'll be the one to handle her training, too - which, in the world of Magical Girls, is basically saying that you will be taking full responsibility for everything your ward may get up to. Including wholesale slaughter. ESPECIALLY wholesale slaughter.

". . ." Kyuubey is silent for a moment, before he shakes his head. Reaching forward, he places a paw on one of the screens, and Girl's A Profile disappears, leaving Murderface's to shift to the center. Slowly, the empty text fields in the bottom of the raven-haired girl's picture starts to fill themselves.

"As long as you know what you're doing, then." The Incubator says after a moment. "I'll grant her probationary status and have her assigned to you. Vindicare rank." It's then that Kyuubey seems to narrow its crimson eyes at the profile in front of him. "Perhaps it would do to seperate her from Tomoe Mami for a few weeks, or so. Her having imprinted on Tomoe Mami when she woke up had been key to her recovery, but her relying on Tomoe Mami to such an extent could have the both of them killed. Try and train that out of her. Break her if you have to."

You nod at this, while silently hoping that you would not have to resort to such things. Of course, not like it will not be easy, with Malal at your disposal, but doing something like that leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

well that obviously failed.

"Murderface, though? No last name, just 'Murderface'?" Kyuubey asks, the inquisitive tone in his voice seemingly returning. "Was there a contest of most horrible nicknames you were trying to win, Kharn? Or were you just trying to make fun of the latest recruit yet again?"

Malal laughs at this. "Sir, I already tried telling her how it really doesn't fit her, and--"

You interrupt your aide by defending your choice of names. It's cool! It is a good, strong name! It immediately strikes fear in the heart of the enemy!

"I worry about you sometimes, Kharn." Kyuubey says, shaking his head, his long ears swaying gently with the movement. "But then I remember why I chose you as Warmaster."

Why did he choose you, then?

Kyuubey's reply seemed almost kind. "For someone a few cards short of a deck, you're the less likely to go crazy and kill us all."

That...is actually sweet of him. It's the first time he's complimented you in such a way.

You find your cheeks burning at this, and you elbow Malal firmly in the side as you hear her snort through her helmet.

"Yes, well. In any case. I doubt you have time to fool around, you have your meeting with the Third Warmaster to get ready for." The Incubator nods. "I would not suspect treachery during the meeting itself, but all the same, conduct yourselves with caution and grace. If something untoward happens, remain calm and assess the situation. That means no taking skulls first, taking skulls some more, and when everyone's headless, asking a question or two."

The both of you nod.

"Do you have any questions before I dismiss you?"

How do you react?
>>
>>20711348
I does make me think what Mami feels about the who situation.

If she starts talking about how lonely she is or how her decisions keep hurting the people she cares about.
Slap her out of it an apply a grief seed STAT!

Thank you for your trust, Kyuubey. On a completely unrelated note, is there a skull under that fur? Any bones at all? Or just the flesh of fallen angels?

Anyways! Good talk. Wonder if Murderface drinks...

Don't start celebrating until you see it. I am still convinced that there is something seriously wrong with Mami's spine.

I just want to say I hate you Deculture. I hate you for making Malal so endearing when she's dead back in the present. ;_;
>>
>>20711391

what is the third warmaster like?

if she is blond then the hunt is on!

we could uncover some valuable information and even if it doesn't turn up anything then we still had an enjoyable meeting.

unless you know... shes a flaming heterosexual.

Alright, I can't type anymore. Still getting used to the new schedule and everything.

Anyway, we'll continue tomorrow on the regular timeslot. As usual I'll start the post with the most voted action.

Thank you for your participation! Feedback is always great!

>>20711590
that sounds like a bad idea, since the third warmaster would probably recognize Girl A.

Sleep well.

As promised, my latest wordscribble, in which i attempt to write a dialogue-based scene. I had to make up two new puella magi to give lines to, so i tried to make them harmless and keep my toes out of Decultured canon. You have my personal assurance that neither of them are author self-inserts.

I just thought of something. Does Malal ever get to wear regular clothes? I mean does the protection of her helmet come in a more convenient, fashion accessory form like a head band or is she stuck with the biker outfit forever?

Thank you.

I forgot to include the first time - as i prefer writing scenes to dialogue, i would appreciate outside critique more than usual on this occasion.

It was probably the only funny part of the movie.

So, something I wanted to know for a while, figured I'd ask it now as long as Deculture's finished.

I've been following along with the quest for a while now, but I've only recently caught up on Puella Magica. So now I understand where most of the main characters came from and what their respective deals are, but I'm still lost on a few; what animus are Iori, Midori and Misaka from? And are Kharn and Malal from anything (other than their names being from 40k)?
>>
>>20713488
Iori and her friends are from Idolmaster, Midori is original, and Misaka is from A Certain Magical Index/Scientific Railgun.

Kharn's design is based on characters from Black Rock Shooter and Stein's Gate.
Malal is based on Akira from the Rival Schools games, based on what Deculture has shown and posted.
>>
>>20713488

Midori's looks, and looks alone, are based on Sonozaki Shion from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
>>
Though I suppose pointing that out is rather inane, considering that many of the characters referenced in this quest retain only their looks, sometimes their names, and not much else..
