One and a half years ago, you were a Magical Girl.

Back then, you were a pretty big deal. Warmaster - it doesn't get any bigger than that. A thousand magical girls under your command, under your heel, to do with them whatever you wished. Hell, you could have dragged Tomoe Mami to your room, kicking and screaming, to have your way with her, and it would only be considered as you enjoying the benefits that come with the job.

But you don't. You've never done that. Not with Mami, not with anyone.

Because you are Valnikov Kharn, and you will not tarnish your father's name any further. You have sworn it on your mother's grave.

And, while you would never admit it, you are afraid of making Malal angry at you.

Not because you fear her wrath. You've never seen her angry. Displeased, perhaps, maybe even miffed - but never angry.

It is simply because you do not want to lose the best friend you've ever had.

You will always covet Tomoe Mami, that is for sure.

But you will never trade a single night of pleasure with the blonde Vindicare - or even a thousand of them - for the friendship of a Culexus who has been there for you whenever you needed her.

Nothing will be ever worth that.

You are standing side by side with Malal, inside Kyuubey's cavernous office. The walls white, blank, inert of any visual data the Incubator has known to fill the entire room with, such is his work. He is sitting in his large, black Mafia Boss chair with the automatic swivel function.

You've sat there a few times, at his behest. During particularly stressful periods, he'd requested that you spend half an hour petting him on your lap, or merely brushing the fur of his coat. He'd fall asleep exactly at the end of that half hour, and despite the friction usually afforded by your professional relationship with him, you could not help but let him sleep. He looked like he needed the rest, back then, in any case.

But that was before your little incident, back when you still could cancel your transformation without needing to bother Malal about her temporary 'fixes'. You haven't really gotten another invitation from Kyuubey ever since - although a few times, he looked as though he was just about to, but thought otherwise at the last possible second.

This is one of those times, just after he's asked you if there is anything you need to know from him before you go.

[]Ask him about the Third Warmaster.
[]Ask him if he requires a thirty-minute lap break.
[]Don't ask him anything. Thank him for his time and leave; you need to get ready.

"The Third Warmaster?" Kyuubey echoes. "Hrn. Well. I must admit that I've little to no intel about her. I was going to ask you if you knew her personally, or if Malal here had any sources regarding her." The Incubator's chair swivels around, once more, and a small electronic beep precedes the multiple screens of Kyuubey's rig lighting up in unison to show one particularly-grainy photo of a fair-skinned young woman with long, platinum-blonde hair, blue eyes, and a rather mirthless smirk on her face. She is wearing what appears to be a rather ornate kimono the color of arctic ice, with various tasteful bits of soft amber and yellow here and there. She is grasping what looks to be a large, grand, golden staff of some sort, topped with a snake's head with its fangs bared to strike.

"She goes by the name of Ahriman. No word as to just what she's capable of, but we did find out that she forcibly replaced the previous Warmaster in an honour duel. No snap election of any sort - all the other girls accepted her right away as their new Warmaster." Kyuubey idly licks at the back of his paw. "Perhaps her vaporizing the incumbent Warmaster five seconds after the duel began had something to do with it."

...Vaporized the previous Warmaster, huh? Despite yourself, you find your old grin stretching your lips and baring your teeth, excitement flooding your veins. Finally. A nice challenge. An interesting one.

It will be unfortunate if this Ahriman was a reasonable girl. By the looks of her, she probably is. That means this little issue with Girl A's tantrums may be resolved in an amicable manner that should be mutually beneficial. Proper. Polite. Peaceful.

Boring.

"But it's not that you're really going into the meeting with violence in mind, right, Kharn?" Kyuubey says, and you hear the almost resigned sigh in his voice. "You're thinking about the good of the Officio and how it's important to maintain a working relationship with our comrades, am I not just wishing out loud here?"

"Kharn." Malal nudges your side after a moment's silence. "You're drooling."

You discreetly wipe after yourself, before reassuring Kyuubey with a much less bloodthirsty grin. He can definitely trust his Warmaster to do the right thing, you tell him. And just to ensure that his faith in you is unwavering, you offer him a thirty-minute lap break, just like the old days.

"...See to it that you do, Valnikov Kharn. I will not authorize a complete mobilization of the Officio unless I know that it's the only proper course of action. Until we reach that point, all efforts to settle this in a peaceful manner must be exhausted." He gives you a nod. "Dismissed."

You snap off a textbook salute at your Incubator - clenching your black fleshmetal fist over your heart - and it's then that you smartly turn on your heels to leave. You hear Malal step forward and say something to Kyuubey, which she receives no vocal response to, and you hear her boots thudding on the marble floor as she runs to catch up with your long, loping strides.

"Magic," Malal says as soon as she manages to catch up to you. "We'll be up against a competent magic user. Probably uses sparkly spells and all that crap, wizard robe, hat, the works." The double doors leading out of Kyuubey's office automatically swing open at your approach. "Should be interesting. The last one we fought didn't last too long."

I think the implication was that Girl A ditching Mami's squad led to... was it Sayaka that was injured? I forget. Anyway, I think it would be best to just apologise for being stupid and running off alone.
Even if we did sort of prevent an extermination.
>>
>>20720664

>>20720658

>>
>>20720664

One of Mami's squad got injured, but it wsn't stated who. I re-read the past threads and people ASSUMED it was Kyouko because she was lazing off when Kharn arrived at the Silent Room and becaude it would explain Sayaka kicking Girl A around.

However, it wasn't explicitly stated who was injured and being lazy during guard duty sounds like something Kyouko would do even in top condition.
>>
Point of amusement; the other thread's still going
>>
>>20720695
It doesn't matter, she kicks someone who can't fight back so we punish her.
Pushing those around that cannot fight back is a sign of weakness
>>
>>20720658

You look towards Malal with mock surprise. Didn't she hear what Kyuubey said, earlier? About how you should avoid violent conflict with them at all costs, to preserve the status quo?

"Yeah, I heard him." The Culexus nods. "Then again, it's obvious he knows what you're planning on doing. Just like I know, too." She shakes her head. "May as well prepare for it, instead of hoping for the best." A vox-corrupted sigh comes from the well-concealed speakers of her helm. "I hate wasting time."

And that is why you do not want to lose Malal, you think as you slip your arm around her narrow shoulders, the smile still on your face.

She knows you so very well, it's often uncanny.

You make your way into the reception area of Kyuubey's office - and it's there that you find Mami Tomoe waiting for you, along with the new recruit, as well as the two differently-colored Eversors from earlier. Mami and the Eversors stand up quickly at your approach, while Murderface seems to take her own time doing so, enough that the blue one hisses something rather venomous towards her direction. Mami turns her head to sharply hush Blue, and the Red grumbles something from around a Pocky stick.

"Warmaster Kharn," Mami nods slightly as you stop in front of her, Malal tinkering with her tablet again beside you. "Girl A--er, Murderface, as you requested. I did my best to clean her up the best I could."

You glance at your trainee. She definitely looks like she's been washed and scrubbed rather thoroughly. Her costume pristine, new, devoid of damage or bloodstains. Even her glasses are new - the lenses clear, without the spiderweb of cracks that had made the old ones useless.

You smile at this, and thank Mami for a job well done. You don't vocalize the knee-jerk offer to reward her personally for her efforts; it's much too early in the day to be that smarmy, and Malal is like, three feet away from you. Have some class, Kharn.

What you get in return is an awkward smile of her own. "Merely following your orders to the letter, Warmaster." You can't help but detect a certain note of reluctance at that, as if she doesn't really mean it, rather just saying it out of politeness' sake. Her grip on Murderface's shoulder, who had remained quiet and motionless throughout the entire thing, seems to tighten ever so slightly.

You shouldn't mind this at all. Your rank makes it easy for people to detest you, especially those you hold authority over. It's just a matter of growing a thick enough skin that this kind of pain doesn't hurt you as much.

Still. To see her look at you in that manner...

It's then that one of the Eversors, the blue one to be exact, steps forward, polite as can be. You take this time to fully take in her features - short blue hair, sharp blue eyes, and a caped costume that almost seems tailor-fit for swordplay. You can't help but be impressed, and you probably would have, had you not heard about her...questionable behavior as of late.

"If...If I may ask, Warmaster," The blue-haired Eversor begins, hesitating slightly. "How are you planning on dealing with the Third Officio? Are we really going to mobilize everyone into a massed assault?" Eagerness is in her voice, along with a certain amount of bloodthirstiness that you immediately recognize.

How do you reply?

>best not mention Girl A here, it would seem like we're pulling favourites.

>>
>>20721217
'Girl A' is dead, no good reason to more than verbally chastise the abuse of a prisoner. If Blue is smart, she'll understand future behavior towards magical girls in her own Officio is expected to be better.

The blue Eversor seems to blink in confusion at your words, before paling ever so slightly, her eyes widening. "Penitence duties? B-but Warmaster, I was only--"

"Let's not add insubordination to your current offense, Miki Sayaka." Malal smoothly replies, stepping in for you, as she is wont to do in cumbersome situations like these. "We value your enthusiasm for the work we do here, and we treasure your expertise as an Eversor. But unsporting or unbecoming behavior is something we do not condone or tolerate, most especially from our top-ranking agents."

"I...um..." The Eversor known as Miki Sayaka is flustered here, but to her credit, she is not looking to her friends for support. Rather, she is meeting Malal's gaze head on, even if you yourself find it hard to talk seriously to such a macabre helmet. She turns to you a moment later. "I admit I got carried away, Warmaster, but I am--"

"--sent to the kitchens to help with the preparation of today's dinner." Malal finishes for her, tapping something on her tablet. "For an entire week. We don't really have any sort of sanctioned punishment for kicking someone fully restrained and unable to defend themselves, Warmaster, but I think that should be sufficient. Don't you? Kharn?"

You manage to tear yourself away from ogling Mami as she fusses about with Murderface's collar ribbon to nod. Yes, yes. A week peeling potatoes and making steamed rice sounds like enough humiliation.

[1/2]
>>
Perhaps we could justify pulling apparent favorites by telling Sayaka that, while we appreciate that our new recruit may have just caused everyone a load of trouble, and that we can't order her not to be angry if she already is, she isn't making training the new recruit any easier by unbalancing her emotionally and distracting her focus.

Alternatively, look at it this way: only if Sayaka isn't actually justified in thinking Murderface was wrongly stirring up trouble does she get to go to war. So, hope that you're wrong, Sayaka.
>>
>>20721248
>Sayaka in charge of being smart

Ahaha, no. We should chastize her for prisoner treatment. Save the bloodlust for enemies.

And when we get back to being Murderface, we have got to confront Sayaka about this. She has had it out for us since Day One for no good reason. The only thing I can think of is she blames us for Mami stepping down, but still.
>>
>>20721387
>Sayaka's finally starting to get along with us after the Kyoko butler pictures and Chiaki's Patented Soul Gem Secret.
>Let's confront her and most likely set that all back, guys!
>>
>>20721387
I actually think it's implied in the Anime that, no matter what timeline they're in, Sayaka will always hate Homura.

In other words, we're fated to never get along. It's more of an inviolable space time law than Mami always being nice.

>>20721336
> A week peeling potatoes and making steamed rice sounds like enough humiliation.
*Sigh* It'll do...
>>
>>20721387

>>
Look at it on the positive side, Sayaka! Learning to cook now will make it easier to get into Kyouko's panties later on!
>>
>>20721413
Guess what! It is implied in the anime no matter what timeline it is. If Sayaka contracts she will always become a witch!

Anyway if it does come to that. We would have to go Code Geass and give Kyoto a 'live' command. Or more specifically "You will not manipulate the circumstances so you and the witch that used to be Sakaya will have to die together."
>>
>>20721413
I think the anime only stated that Sayaka was only fated to go witch/be disappeared by Godoka should she ever contract.
>>
>>20721336

". . ." Sayaka is struck silent at this, before she bows to you a fraction of a degree - and you feel a familiar prick of sensation tugging at your subconscious. Someone's mad, mad enough to kill - but it disappears as Sayaka straightens up.

"Very well, Warmaster. I...accept your judgment. I will accomplish my penance and learn from it."

The crimson Eversor glumly murmurs a goodbye as the blue one stalks back towards the elevator, her cape billowing out of her.

That Sayaka...you'll have to keep an eye on her, you think. She reminds you so much of Kirika.

"...Thank you for choosing diplomacy over outward aggression, Warmaster." Mami is the first to break the awkward silence as she turns to face you, both her hands now on Murderface's narrow shoulders. "I...I don't think we'll ever agree on certain issues, but I hope that you share my belief that we do not need to draw this out into a long and bloody affair." She shakes her head, her blonde drills bouncing slightly in sympathy. "The Third Officio lost three of its squads, while we got away with only minor injuries. I do not think we need to bleed them any further than that."

You manage a small smile at her boundless optimism. Well, of course, that is what you said you will do, and she's free to believe it.

Unlike her, you are no saint, nor will you pretend to be.

"Now, be sure to follow what Miss Valnikov says, alright? She's your commanding officer now. Her authority supercedes mine. Whatever she asks you to do, do it to the best of your ability. Be a good girl, understand?"

A quiet nod.

Wiping her eyes briefly with the back of her gloved hand, Mami turns to face you, nudging the raven-haired girl towards your retinue. "She's...she's all yours, Warmaster." She works up a bright smile, and you can't help but feel as if you're taking a child away from her mother. You suddenly feel like the monster that you are.

It's not a good feeling, you decide.

"We'll bring her back in one piece, don't worry." Malal replies for you, and Mami bows to your aide respectfully. Yet another testament of how the blonde Vindicare seemed to be a literal angel - while everyone else has treated Culexus with spite and revulsion, Mami had been one of the few to treat them as equals. Even your aide had had her share of encounters, some you personally settled yourself (much to her chagrin). She salutes you soon after, and then makes her own exit, leaving the red Eversor alone. She studiously nibbles on the last remaining bit of pocky, before pulling out a half-empty box of the things from behind her.

"A bit too late, I think, but, uh...sorry for Sayaka earlier, Warmaster. I was the one who got hurt, back at the purge. Was my fault anyhow - one of the targets I downed was still alive, enough to shoot me in the leg. Rookie mistake. Won't happen again." She gives you a fanged grin. "Still, thanks. This should cool her down a bit."

>>
>>20721498
>She reminds you so much of Kirika.
That's really not a good sign. I'm betting in the present Kyouko's going to get hurt or something and Sayaka's will end up getting a golden weapon so she can protect her or serve justice or whatever.
Why is Sayaka such a stupid bitch?
>>
>>20721592
Don't forget the security footage!
>>
>>20721555

No. First and second timeline, Sayaka never contracted. Neither in the Oriko Magica timeline.

What has been stated is that if she contracts, she will witch out. However, that's taking into account that she will always get rejected by Violin boy, who has no indication of existing in this timeline.
>>
>>20721621
But he's why she contracted, innit? So if he doesn't exist, why did she enter into a contract in this broken world?
>>
>>20721630
Who knows?
Fuckn' Magic.
>>
>>20721630
Well violin boy wasn't the only reason she could have contracted but he was in all the timelines we have seen

Maybe she met Mami earlier in this timeline or she had some other reason since violin boy might have died of terminal dick cancer or something.
>>
>>20721646
Maybe she hooked up with Kyouko and got over him?
>>
>>20721630

Kyouko.
>>
>>20721630
Nothing to say circumstanced can't change across the timelines. I mean, I somehow doubt Madoka contracted because of that damn cat in every single one.
>>
>>20721621
>>20721630
>>20721646
Well, I think the reason why Sayaka witched out was because she thought she was more selfless then she actually was. All she thought she wanted was to heal Kyosuke but really wanted Kyosuke himself.
So also assumed that she could still date Kyosuke after contracting.

Thinking about it, it looks like she has settled down with Kyoto so she probably wont witch out soon.
>>
I hope that this timeline hasn't had a visit from a more pauldronized and more multiversally-aware version of the third warmaster.
>>
>>20721592

She nods at Malal, before stepping forward to press the box of Pocky into Murderface's hands.

"Take care of Murderface for us, yeah? Sayaka doesn't show it and Mami-san left quickly because she didn't want you to see her cry, but we like this idiot right here." The Eversor grins again as she pats imaginary lint away from Murderface's shoulders. "She may be quiet now, but she's got a mouth on her, just you wait."

This gets a reaction out from the Vindicare. "...Don't call me an idiot, idiot."

"Hah! See?" The red-haired girl guffaws. "A-anyway, sorry for taking up more of your time, Warmaster. I know you're in a rush and all." She makes a rather hurried salute. "I'll see if I can talk Sayaka into letting me help her with her duties. Not that she can't do it herself, but I'd like to make sure the Officio gets a nice hot meal for dinner."

The Eversor makes her exit finally, leaving all three of you alone in the reception area.

"Kyoko Sakura," Malal reads from her tablet as the three of you finally make your way to the Elevator. Behind you, Murderface is crunching rather noisily on the pocky sticks she'd been given. "Hmm. Says here she's rumored to be in a relationship with Miki Sayaka. I guess that...sort of explains things, I guess. Very astute, though. Potential Warmaster aide material right there. I'll make a note of it, so you don't forget, Kharn."

[4/5]
>>

You're the only aide for us, Malal.
>>

Wow Deculture, that is not subtle at all.

>>

Need to remove that helmet. I bet she's hiding blonde hair under their, I bet all the Culexus are hiding blonde hair under those helmets.
>>
>>20721671
>>20721670
She only met Kyouko after she contracted in this timeline
>>
>>20721705
She could be our ADC, I mean Murderface's aide, that is.

Oh wait we've got Midori, well, she's more like our assistant than anything else.

Out of Koyoko, Sayaka, Mami, and Midori Koyoko would be the only one who could get the job done with the least morality issues and most efficiency.

>>20721710
Also yeah, this.
>>
>>20721724
I would actually support this. Kyouko knows what she's doing and she's a bro
>>
>>20721734
Well we need to ask Midori if she is any good with computers.
I doubt it though :(
>>
>Don't call me an idiot, idiot.
>cirno.jpg

Anyway, potential Warmaster aide material, hmm? Wonder what Deculture could be implying...

And Kharn, at that, since she's the one currently telling the story.
>>
Bah, Murderface should just get Sayaka, Kyouko, Mami and Midori together and be the Power Rangers or whatever. They have the hair for it.

Turn it from Noir into Super Senai. Or the A-team.

But you already have an aide, you reply as the Elevator starts its journey down. Why would you need another one?

"In case I need to be replaced, of course." Malal shoots back. "Don't be silly, Kharn. I'm not going to be your aide forever. Better to be prepared for it than get caught unaware." It's then that she pokes your side. "And she needs to be not blonde, or she won't get anything done."

Well, not completely anything, you protest, but you don't say it out loud.

You're much too bothered with the idea of not having Malal by your side.

It's not a very comforting thought. Not at all.

The sinking feeling of the elevator's descent is accompanied by the one in your gut.

Hey, I like Sayaka! I like all the Megucas. It's just that Sayaka, well... circumstances haven't been very conducive to good relations until recently in the present. Since this is a flashback, it makes sense she still has a chip on her shoulder.
>>
>>20721734

Midori will probably be Matsuda's aide due to proximity to her during Chiaki's warmaster training, if nothing else. This also assumes that she manages to overcome the inevitable mindfuckery and trauma that comes hand in hand with being Chiaki's subordinate.

It isn't that much of a stretch to see Kyouko being Warmaster Matsuda's number one, though.

Alright! This serves as a nice ending to the last thread, so I'm capping it here. Also, uh, it's raining pretty heavily again, what with the Super typhoon and all, so I may get cut out if I go on longer (sorry for the slow replies too).

MGNQ will resume Tuesday next week! Thank you for your patronage and feedback is always appreciated!
>>
>>20721844
Honestly, I'd rather Kyouko for our aide. I adore Midori, but mixing business with personal relationships is a terrible idea, and Midori seems to have trouble dealing with anyone other than Chiaki. With Kyouko, she'd be able to lay the smackdown in our place and still maintain friendly relations with others.
>>
>>20721872
Thank you for running the quest, Deculture.

Kyoko might be a prove to be a better aide. However she has one weakness.

Sayaka

Perhaps when the flashback is over we should ask Kyoto what she will do if Sayaka expires.

We're in the middle of a flashback, as a different person, so the butler thing hasn't happened yet and it's not going to apply to Kharn when it does.
>>
>>20721889
That's a good point. We could have Midori handle the administrative stuff, keeping track of appointments and information, and sticking close to us, while we have Kyouko do the socializing/fieldwork side of things that we don't have time for/can't be fucked doing ourselves.
>>
>>20721872

That was what I was replying to, there. No need to confront Sayaka over this when it's all settled and she's started to take a better attitude towards us.

But seriously, thanks for running, man.

Alright, so what are the odds Chiaki will actually finish her Warmaster training given how she's basically in a battle royale with, like, a dozen other individuals? And what are the odds Deculture will have her finish it simply to subvert the obvious conclusion?

Bringing Midori in as official Aide would raise all sorts of issues in the office. We can certainly keep her as a gopher and combat bait, but I think Kyoko would definitely make a better Aide.
She'd probably jump at the chance to reduce her corruption rate while increasing grief seed income. We could sweeten the deal by bringing Sayaka in as an enforcer, improving her ratio as well.
>>20721872

Kyoko does seem pretty pally with Chiaki even in flashback. I suspect she'd probably have taken her execution almost as badly as Mami. I'm wondering how she referred to her when she was pre-Murderface; just calling her "Girl A" would seem rather out of character.
>>
>>20722013
Don't know why but I can see her saying, "So about that dame you picked up from that Witch's barrier..." all the while pointing at the silent room's door with pocky in mouth and lance as a prop.
>>
>>20722013
Well, Girl A is usually used in Japanese media to refer to criminals with name suppression. I expect Chiaki had an actual name before the incident happened; she was implied to have been working under Mami for a while, and I doubt Mami, of all people, would have just called her 'Girl A' the whole time.
>>
Is is wrong that I wouldnt mind seeing a doujin based on this
>>

Yeah, I like Midori, but having a former agent of the Tenth as Chiaki's aide would probably cause all sorts of unnecessary friction and conflict.
>>
>>20721919
We will finish it simply because we expect to fail it so completely

Then we will sort out our problems with Sayaka, repay Kharn, convince Iori to be with Garcia and save Pinky

All to die to Mami because she orchestrated everything so that she could get all the golden weapons into one place and then kill the last man standing so that no one will be able to use them to cause suffering
>>
>>20722035

I suggested that Mami and her squad were unofficially calling her A-ko (Eiko) before Kharn took her off their hands
>>
>>20722035
I don't think she properly had a name but Girl A was used as her official title for the officio.

I can see them giving her a nickname but since they seem to call her murderface I think that more likely she didn't really have a name until then since nothing really stuck

>Tinfoil Hat Time

The kidnapping was legitimate. The other officio didn't want to mess with whoever successfully kidnapped their agent, and let the matter lie. But they did use it as an excuse to get Mami and her squad in the field and isolated.

>>20721931

I just think that it'd be a real shame if Midori was relegated to essentially being one of those menial-task interns when she's going to be exposed to as much training as Chiaki is, though there is a point in seeing how her reverence/fangirling over Chiaki could be problematic. Though that may serve to ensure her loyalty to Chiaki, it may be best to have to that ironed out.

Although having her and Kyouko work together as Chiaki's joint aides could be a good idea. She'd keep Midori grounded, and also serve to inform Chiaki if something is going wrong.
>>
>>20722037
Considering we already have a paperback novel's worth of posts from Deculture, not at all!
>>
>>20722063
That seems plausible
>>
>>20722075
Easily fixed
Kyouko would be chiaki's official aide amongst the officio, Sakuya would be her enforcer / bodyguard
Midori would be her personal aide which is a job she is more suited to overall

And Mami gets to be our pancake goddess / conscience
>>
>>20722075
>>20722106
Well Midori can serve us in some unofficial capacity. If Deculture decides to throw us a curveball and have Madoka appear. We could get Midori to scout her out under the excuse that "I can't be seen getting to close to the lower ranks"
>>
>>20722037
Not in the slightest.
>>
>>20722045
Now you're thinking with noir.

And Sayaka has a hair-trigger temper and a stubborn sense of what's right. If we don't resolve this, it'll blow up when we want it the least.

Best plan would probably be to get Kyoko as an aide and Sayaka as a bodyguard or something. Kyoko's a good aide candidate as stated and getting Sayaka would help mitigate any jealousy or whatever. We should also try to get Mami and Midori just to keep an eye on both of them to help prevent shit from happening.
Of course, it's unlikely we'll be able to pull this off, it's a noir after all. All plans are destined to fail miserably. Kyubey would probably say we can't tie up that many resources or something, while he plots to make us all despair so he can meet his entropy quotas.
