The cadaver is definitely not human. Fish scales on the lower limbs, no hair, reduced palpebrae and the set of gills located in the the trigonum caroticum are more than enough reason for the church to burn it. This one was repeatedly stabbed in the chest, killing it. If I had to explain it using something we know, I'd say we've got the mythical merfolk body here.
