>The Battle thread died so I'm leaving this here as a place holder. Storytimes and discussion welcome.

Month of Ashwood, 657
The Battle at the portal of Graywind, poses a serious threat to the township. With supply road cut off, her Majesty's army's may not be able to come to our aide, but still we hope.

We have in our retinue about 17 or so odd souls, and we are still rallying from the town itself. These are numbers anyone would feel safe with. But the magnitude of the problem seems to suggest otherwise. We have already lost one soul to the front lines. While our Trackers performed admirably, our Bloqsmiths working unimpeded, and our Knights taking the brunt of the weight, the whole group has yet to coordinate themselves to their full potential.

The Scholomance students seems to be without their training... is it possible that they were only taking a juvenile field trip ? In which case I took it upon myself to perhaps teach them of their potential. . . .

In here are the texts I have of their fields , Each practice seem to follow their own rules since magic the magical arts themselves are half a science and half a creative endeavor... Where shall I start..
>>
=Evokers=

Evokers are a primal field of practice, taken from the teachings of Morgana Le Fey and passed on through Merlin. This odd style being the oldest carries the most archaic methods that was soon streamlined to its rudimentary form today.

Evokers realize two things about this world; that the world is simply moving to its nature, and that nature is Mana. Tangible forms of mana reside in the Aether, and trained eyes of evokers can see them. Once acknowledge they can see into the spirits of things, able to borrow or sway them with waves of a hand, or utterances of soulful prose.
But no matter what manner of deliver it is, Mana must always be needed. To move the earth , one must have a color of Terras mana, to sway the winds, Aerias, to create flames Firas. These things can be borrowed by touching the element or being in "focus" with them.

To cast, one has many options to use I will start with hand spells;

Hand spells are basic but limited, your success with these spells diminishes the farther away your targets are, and the bigger your spell becomes. [-1 for hex distance, -1 for hex size] But with much training a trained Evoker can simply create titanic Earth Walls or summon distant blazes.

Word Spells affect those who hear you, this also means spirits. If a subject is able to see or hear you [sight range], they are affected. The same also goes for Mana. As one has to be precise and careful with their wording, a slip of the tongue might offend the wrong target with the wrong curse, or your instructions to the spirits might be misconstrued. But nonetheless all who witness it may be affected.

>>
Next they may affect Aether streams... I ... have never seen one myself. But I hear that taking a simple breath and /scrying/ may take you there. The results are fantastic. Particularly big aether masses tend to affect larger areas, similarly, casting with them is like using a sturdy castle as your wand. [This is good]

Wands, Focii - You may use wands to help you focus the range or distance of your spells. But unfortunately specific wands have specific shapes of affectation. However, they also carry with them an element. Items infused with an elemental alignment can normally be used as wands, and they lend their /Color/ to your spells should you need them for [fusions]

And lastly, we have runes. Those literate enough my scrawl a rune on a surface. Those who touch, or step on them are hit with a spell of impeccable accuracy. The rune however will extinguish itself after use. It also does not discriminate against friend or foe. So be careful.

Oh... you wished to know about imbuing magics to your weapon ? Hummm that's dangerous stuff and I don't think you're old enough to learn such a thing. But... one could say that you need only cast /through/ the point of your weapon and strike. Take of that what you willl....
>>
=Alchemists=

Are a very scholarly bunch, but I've known some geniuses who threw some downright villainous parties with their ... hehm...

While Alchemists are not completely adept with the aether, they are definitely aware of what's affected by it. And thus they use components touched with these colors to create their concoctions in a bottle. However, being alchemists, just about any old item will do [from derelict weaponry, grisly remains, etc] and so they dont rely on color or terrain much like how Evokers do. Their identity is in their recipes and what resources they have on hand.

An alchemist's spells come in potion or barrel form, however they may also create or modify compact or large missiles that are packed with their concoctions. So long as they have the [item points] for it. To get them, they can use any tool or their hands and break down any component they can get their hands on. Just don't let them near your stuff.

With enough pool of components, points maybe spent creating the container for their mixes, and then finally the range of effects those mixes have.

A barrel of DoubleAcid for example, is a whopping 7 Item points.

.....
Do not actually make DoubleAcid, I had a horrible time with that.

Yeah, its beginning to get really lonely on the front line.
>>
>>20759175
Yeah, sorry about that. Now that I know which character is actually mine on the map, I should be able to be a lot more effective this time around.
>Dorf thinks he's Castor. Get your shit together Gorust!
>>
I'l handle those trolls once I make sure if and where I am on the map. None shall survive the might of my hammer, you weaker races can feel safe once I arrive.
>>
Unless I'm completely mistaken, I believe the rules for Withdrawing/Bowing Out state that we can choose to have our characters controlled by another player if we have to step out early. I dunno about the other classes, but how many of the Knights here think we should elect a leader that we can transfer over to when we leave for the evening?

Tonight when we resume, I'll take a roll call. Those who respond are in. If your character is already deployed and you don't respond to it, you may be withdrawn. Even if you are left in and I bot you, chances are I may use you to attack rather than pull you back to safety so withdraw your character if you're leaving and don't want to risk it.

Alright, a plan of action.

I want everyone deploying tonight to, if they have it, use ranged weapons to hold off the undead from the green lines on the map here. They should attack from range and wait for the undead to close the distance before melee fighting.

While they do this, bloqsmiths will work on building walls on the red, then the orange line.
I don't know how much of the wall a bloqsmith can make each phase, we'll just have to learn as we go along (think of this as the tutorial mission).

Once they finish the walls, defenders should fall back inside and climb up on the walls to fight from there. Bloqsmiths should then focus on making ballista and catapults on the walls.

Evokers, make sure you read the information up here at the top of the thread. You'll be helping defend the green line.

Storm mages, if we have any. We'll need you to call a heavy rain storm to flood that stream there. Make it overflow, that'll slow down the undead.

Any suggestions? Ideas?

I'm heading off to class, but I should be back in time for some more planning.

Sure. Consider yourself revived.
>>
>>20762692
Thank you so very much. It would be such a waste to lose one of our two Drakkei on the first mission. Hopefully this session I keep my connection or atleast find someone to bot me before I crash.

Related to that. What happens to XP when you are botted. Do you just gain it normally and spend it when you return?
>>
>>20762723

Don't get too excited yet - somebody will have to be a hero and pull your body out of that horde (Probably one of the castors).
>>
>>20762058
Since I can continue fall back and call down the rain at the same time I will do that until I hit the river. Then idle in the river since that should keep me out of combat.
>>
>>20763011
Can't we just drudge him out of the pond later? I don't mind the mooks, but the trolls look like they could start beat me down.
>>
>>20763141

Dear, I'd be worried about his body's continued coherence. Undeath tends to be catching, after all...
>>
>>20763236
Maybe we will be lucky and it will get flushed down stream to us when the flooding starts...
>>
I will aid you with the trolls, since you seem to fear them that much. My hammer will make short work of exploding their putrid heads.
>>
>>20763236
Well, if that's an issue, the zombies already ripped him to shreds when the troll killed him, so we don't have an intact body anyway.
>>
>>20763236
>>20763298
Ya seem to be forgettin one thing. MAGIC, MOTHERFUCKERS.
>>
>>20763404

Magic is a scalpel, child, it requires a plan. Or else it requires much time to prepare a more powerful stroke. And for such a simple thing as retrieving a body, sometimes the mundane methods are simpler.
>>
>>20763437
So operation drag the dragon is agogo?
>>
>>20763236
>>20763292
Also, I feel the need to explain something. Unlike you fleshbags who can get the crap beaten out of you, heal yourselves up and have a go at it the next day, us castors are pretty much stuck with whatever damage we sustain. As long as I'm dealing with things that have trouble getting through my considerable armor, I'm good, but they bring in the heavies and I might be permanently weakened.
>>
>>20763535

You were the one who signed up for the front lines, dearie. You don't see the dead complaining, do you?

You have companions, utilize them.
>>
I just checked, it turns out I was wrong about the body being ripped to shreds, I'll just grab the piece of meat and book it, since it's right there and mobility seems to be my specialty anyway.

>>20763650
Do you really need to keep calling me "dearie"? I swear to elements, I'm twice your size.
>>
>>20763078
Continue to fall back towards base. The river will likely only slow them down, they'd probably still be able to attack you there.
>>
>>20763814

Aw, what's wrong? Is this little old lady making the big strong golem flustered?

In any case, your friendly Rivern evoker just found himself a mana jackpot, I imagine you will have some help indeed.
>>
>>20763141
We can, provided we do not lose here and have to retreat.

If that happens, he will at least be able to reincarnate and rejoin us later (although he'd have to roll another race and element).
>>
>>20763530
If it can be done without risking the plan outlined. All we'd need is someone who can move fast and avoid any overwatch the undead may have.

(Remember, enemies can overwatch too.)
>>
I will be dropping some traps all over, hopefully it can help slowing down the mob, Instead of making one big wall, giving it one small opening would work to funnel them safely to us. If they think they can pass, even slightly, they may ignore the wall and walk 1 by 1
>>
>>20763907
I intend for there to be a gate of sorts that the green line defenders can fall back through. Just got to make sure that someone keeps an eye on the gate while others are on the walls, preferably those with no ranged option.
>>
>>20763880
>>20763898

More Notes for those who need them.

=Contractor=

The Contractor found their use as a gamble against ... foreign flora and fauna beyond the mist. It was not enough to have our knowledge and methodology as academics and scholars to deal with these outer threats, we needed people capable of sealing and controlling them too, if only to garner vital advantages on first contact.

A Contractor's initiation requires that they capture a monster, usually they find one that matches their alignment. Upon their christening they work together as either master and servant, brothers in arms, or Knight and steed. With more Eidolons and monsters under their command, it's completely possible to command a whole fighting force with their limited actions.

To capture a monster, Contractors must gamble with their lives and their mark, weakening the monster to a point of easy capture, or taking a risk and catching a potential partner in their fresh state.

One must pay heed however, a contractor's abilities aren't limited to monsters. There are those that break the rule of Kings and enslave their fellows as well. Though this is looked down upon, it is not rare, not even under domestic circumstances.

. . . . Well shall we begin ?
>>
>>20765290

You could try, but I'm not certain it would work. As for using an item? Best save an action for it just in case.
>>
>>20765290
Using an item costing an act, I do not know. I suppose if you had enough strength you could move a ballista or catapult, maybe as a castor. I do not know for certain though.

Month of Ashwood, The Night after the fight.
==================================

The celebration was sparse but it was lively all the same. The heroes ate like true champions but their apetite was no match for their curiousity. A courier was sent out as soon as victory was sounded, and soon, her Majesty will send back word of how to proceed, or perhaps an army of her own to relieve us of our watch duties.

We could not believe the faces of those we buried. Some people had remembered the faces as friends from another town, others had relatives. In the end a pyre was formed but swords were erected for the soldiers and townsmen lost to the undead scourge. In our time of troubling thoughts it was the two Scholomance superiors, myself a vagabond alumni and Elm of Eden who had secured himself a fine role as professor. I have resigned myself to a life of observing, as it was the primary teachings of the Scholomance to never interfere with the natural world, even if ruled by unnatural things.

And so the responsibility of leading naturally fell to Elm while I slave away at my desk, compiling notes, searching, researching, and at times even inventing. . . .

But I stray from my duties, you have moved into this town yes ? If not for a decade perhaps for a year ? Either way, a neighbor is a neighbor, and my job is to guide you about. I suppose between patrols and fighting for our lives you'd want to find ways to keep busy, I wouldn't know what to say in that regard. We aren't exactly Her Majesty's army, but we're expected to do our jobs of protecting this town, or learning new things.

And so let me be the one to tell you what you can do with some coin and a bit of initiative;

- Trade; you may trade goods freely among your peers any number of times.
- Purchase, Train, Work; The Dorfs can craft odds and ends, sometimes even commit to large projects for Exp, others may go to town to purchase something from the shop. New things will come in, as soon as the roads clear up I wager, but sometimes an oddjob or two comes by with interesting things to peddle.
-Quest, Sometimes getting out and about to explore does an Ifframi good. Sometimes there are zombies.
. . . . .
. . . .
. . .
. .
But don't let that get you down, Once, between battles you may write your own little story. At the conclusion of your tale, this Journal has a tendency of reporting your success and failures, and what gains were to be had [and there are always gains]

Fleur... survived this outing through the gate held the bow so familiar to her in her hands once again. She thought she saw the ghouls over run a mighty dragon... how easily that could of been her... These thoughts ran through the mute girl's head as she sat at in the town's tavern, head in one hand, the other on a stein of ale. There was that one time, at the last town she was station at... she had felt the cold bite of steel... She was lucky then, but how many more times would she need to enter the gate to protect at a town? More thoughts that ran though her head, her stein half gone down. It was her job, as much as she disliked it, she was good at it. She drank more, having another stein brought over. This was a habit she had at her last town... and it was starting here too, that wasn't good. Another thought and another drink.

The brown haired mute girl tried her hardest to get one of the barmaids to sit and talk about the town that she was meant to protect, through a many half-drunk gestures.

So, as a castor, the damage I take is permanent. So I understand that healing spells designed to knit flesh have no effect on my stony exterior, and my body won't repair itself. But I understand we have at least a couple of fine dwarven smiths, could they possibly perform repairs on me?
>>

Hmmmm
The effect would be similar to melting down a couple of armors for their HP+ advantage and using it on yourself. The Obvious cost to this is gold + the exp. of said dwarven smiths. The service will be costly indeed. Talk to Eldred to see if he can organize something.

" You know," the Barmaid said
" I have always met many loudmouthed drunks that I sometimes listen to for a quite a lot- and this is the first time I've gotten a quiet one that asked me about myself. "

She places her hands on her hips and gives a certain nod.

" On the day that that would happen, I made a bet with myself, that I would hold that conversation over cake. You'll stay a while will you ? You'd need to sit that tonic down anyway. "

After an hour that made itself into minutes, the Barmaid hummed a familiar song as she traipsed about the kitchen collecting ingredients from no less than 2 regulars to fetch.

The bar was empty for such a late night and everyone had been spirited away except for the one mute who was faced with a humble half of a creamy carrotspice cake.

" The carrots came from my father's farm, that is now being tended to by his Castor friend, the cream was from a recipe left by an alchemist who kept rambling about the day he dropped a barrel of double acid. And the bread was something my friend used to make. But that's a long story. Eat up "

"All these years, and he /insists/ on calling me Elm."
Eldred had just been talking with an old friend of his, and he always called Eldred by his old nickname. Whether it was because he prefered it or his old friend was experiencing the problems of age (he an old friend of Eldred's, and an /old/ friend), Eldred was never certain.
"It happens, when you stay in a single incarnation long enough..."

The nickname had reminded him of how he earned it, the time he had given several elms some legs and set them loose throught the school. "With those undead running about, along with the average dangers of the wilds, might be thrust into another fight. This trick could be useful."
Unfortunately, he didn't remember how he had done it. To rediscover would require some experimentation. First, Eldred decided to recreate the conditions under which he had first performed the spell. "I /WILL/ have fighting trees!"
And it is with that sentiment he burst through the doors to the bar.

[Quest]
:The Walking Stick: Eldred is searching for the means to make tree minio--soldie-- Assistants.

"I require drinks! Many drinks!" He announces to the mostly empty bar. All of two barmaids and girl. "Graywind has changed." He notes to no one in particular. Going over to the centaur girl doing the dishes, he says "I need this for science! Er..MAGIC!" as he throws some gold down on the bar, hops over, and begins helping himself.

Soon, he is in the proper frame of mind. Leaning the walking stick against the wall, he begins his slurred casting.

At least if this doesn't work, he has an excuse to get very drunk.

Montblanc walked alone to the blood-soaked fields, seeking one final thing from the battle. As the sun's light waned, it almost seemed normal for his shadow to extend twice his height and girth - though it fell just short of a singular corpse.

The Tam cocked his head at the sight of what was, essentially, his corpse. The witch Baba Yaga had been preparing for this sort of eventuality for a while, but there was one last thing that needed doing, something that had been impossible until the body was long cold and dead.

Drawing a piece of his soul out into the spear in his hands, he swept the tip over the body. The ashen corpse dissolved and washed away, leaving in its wake a book whose paper remained dry as the cracked sands of the deserts of Baba Yaga's youth. Montblanc picked it up, and quickly flipped through what pages he could - most were inaccessible to him, the magic having long destroyed their contents. Whatever it had been before, the text was naught but a book of names now - the names of these other outcasts and survivors of this town. But one name had already crossed itself out.

[Story]
Irontalon stood on a hilltop in the midst of the storm. Rain poured down hard as thunder and lighting crashed all around him. Some castors might be concerned about the rain and wind eroding them, but the storm had apparently chosen him, for whatever reason. He looked down at his blade and reflected on the events of the battle.

It went well at first, him and the other castors proved able to withstand the onslaught of the horde of ghouls. But as the the trolls began to advance, the others fled. Castors are unable to recover from injury on their own like the other races of the world, and perhaps the fear of permanent injury overcame them. Irontalon began to feel the same, a fear that grew as the trolls began to beat him down. But he turned to his smaller fellows, and watched as they continued to fight on as the horde approached, manipulating the elements and firing arrows, even though a blow from a troll could easily kill them. He was the only knight left now, his Drakkei comrade having been consumed by the horde earlier. And that made him the only thing left standing in between the undead and his newfound comrades. He knew the next onslaught by the trolls would probably be the one to turn him to rubble, but he couldn't stand to allow the brave people behind him to be overrun. He took up a defensive stance, and prepared for one last set of swings against the horde. But fate had different plans for him, as lightning struck his sword, and arced through the undead as he swung, felling them all. Irontalon was both dumbfounded and relieved at this turn of events. A deft salvo by his compatriots eliminated the remaining threats.

=The Walking Stick=

His name was Elm because
of the drink that had been concocted that night by Martel Meadleaf. On a dare he drank the sap essence of an elm Tree, after it was fermented in an ether bath in Martel's closet. It was not soon after that , that the concoction- with its strange effects interacted with the Evoker's alignment in a rather famous way. What had literally been harmless trees were transformed to living, walking spells that gained such impeccable sentience, that it pardoned the damages done to the women's bathhouse.

And it was many years ago to this day, that I see a shambling Evoker go into the woods, and continuing a private retreat there with half the northern wood.

Fleur trembles with what normally would be laughter in response to the silly bet the barmaid made with herself. She did wait, and was glad she did when putting cake to mouth. The dessert bringing a smile to the girl's freckled face. If such a thing was normal fanfare, she could see herself liking this town, or if anything, this tavern.

Savouring the cake, she misses both the professor, and Drakkei entering. From the sounds of it, it seemed her quiet chat with the barmaid was going to be interrupted. Watching in abject fascination as scholarly type, the only other human that was out on the feel, vault behind the counter and start serving himself. Torn between wanting to leave and taking her time to finish the treat, she kept at it, not wanting for offend the work that went into it. Her worries also fell on the other who entered... She knew them to be prideful creatures, but the amount of ale he wanted... She wouldn't be staying around for that. She finished, gave the barmaid another smile and downed the last of her own drink before sliding some gold onto the table.

She left the tavern after that, to find a bed to sleep in.

With the Aqua Tam's call for a decision, Fleur decided to sit it out. She sought to occupy her time with something else, still with the interest of the town in mind, but... away from the others at the moment. Never being one for crowds, unless necessity called, she see the value of what she was trying to do, and the Tam might of actually had a point. She looked for those able, but still too young to join the townguard, to impart knowledge of using the bow, in hopes to prevent... whatever happened to the Ashleaf.. if that line of thinking was true, anyways.

It wasn't until mid afternoon of the same day that they had arrived on a grisly scene. Whole ... hordes of bloodied tyrants mingled, fought, devoured or were being devoured by millitant saurs. A rare sight. The beings fought with the ferocity that rivalled drakkei but had no illusions of grandeur. [Story]
With the battlefield littered with corpses, traps and siege apparatus, Paige looks on towards the field, crossbow in arms, satisfied of the work done. Today had been an easy job and despite the loss of a few comrades, their new forms quickly rejoined the fight, pushing it to victory. Had the battle been too easy, or their forces too well organized, he'd know for sure the next time they cross the gate together. His nature as a Sleekfoot put him one step higher then everyone else in terms of speed. Would the town need a scout? The answer was obvious, but he'd have to be a good scout. Something to look forward too at the very least, his training to ensure the safety of his kin, good idea...

[Quest]
Investigate the importance of that one troll and the tree that appeared near the end of the mission. Why was it working after that one tree, and why was the troll itself different, had it seen something that even us could have missed? Nevertheless, investigating that area seems like a good start to a future scout's inquisitive nature about his surroundings

Paige arrived at the idea faster than he had cared to.

" They hated water" He divined, Ghouls and Trolls detested water , in fact they hated it more because it had such menacing hold over their magical natures. The Troll had went out of its way during battle to construct a crude tree bridge. And while water was considerably dangerous as a raging river, he wondered if there was more to it that made the undead repel from it....

He sniffs the air he reached the bank. Bending down at the edge of the bank he scoops a finger across the edge where it was once lined with corpses and found a black oily ichor on his fingertips.

It smelled like blood.

As a Drakkei, Rockwell always imagined it his duty to be at the front of the lines to protect what he'd like to call the weaker races. Not so much because of their worth as because of their actual frailty. The battle had proven him wrong however when he himself chose to retreat, leaving a single brave castor to hold off the horde as he recuperated. A tough decision which was making him rethink the outlook of his future at the front lines. However, despite his moody attitude, there was a victory to be celebrated. Heading to the town's bar, he'd enter, head held high, "I'l have an entire cask of ale!" he'd ask to the barmaid present before sitting down in a corner, nodding to Eldred who had apparently came in before he did.

[Quest]
After the events at the bar, an idea would flash in his mind, something he should have realized sooner. The key to his questions would lie in understanding the Drakkei heroes, legends and figures of the past, to see how they handled it, how they fought, their life's story, relive the greatness of his race's past to understand his own future. -Go read Drakkei history to brush up on confidence, martial skills, special techniques and tactics-

It didn't take much long to realize that the offensive recipes in his textbooks wasn't going to work out with his way of working. For one, an Alchemist would rarely see the front, their job it seems would be best suited for supporting their peers with high yield explosives that they can handle themselves.
On the other hand, potions were meant to be drank after all

It was therefore imperative that he come up with a way of coming up with new recipes that are more focused on empowering his own peers.

And so, he began to test the effects of his work in pubs. It would also help with the money issue.

Fresh from jail, Eldred had caught wind of the dorf's plan. Dorf brew in this town, how could that be a bad thing? Graywind had always been a small village, and something to stimulate growth was something he could support. The rush of battle, having rediscovered his old tricks, Elm felt as if he had reconnected with his roots. And so, he signed on to this business venture.

The intoxicating elm tincture was consumed, a maple tree was called forth. > You may only perform one quest, and attempt one job. So technically I can't actually count this. With that said Talon's action hasn't been processed so...

It was obvious from the start. And after a few drinks later Freyja finds herself looking over a giant wooden mold that outlined the giant. She didn't know if this was gonna work. Hell it was starting to become a terrible idea as the night wore on.

" Ok I want you to lie perfectly still, the wind is perfect for what I want to do with it... "

" And what pray tell are you going to do with it ?"

The dorf looked at the molten pot standing over a magic fyre. The details of such an acquisition were hazy at best, in fact a product of sheer luck. The things melting in the pot ? Smelted iron from all the tainted swords and pikes that the undead army wielded, that the town couldn't use.

For years now, the problem with castor mortality had been a pet project of many engineers and scholars. For one, how would one fuse the rock to that of a Castors ? It was believed that one chunk of rock was independent from the other and no amount of erosion or mortaring would allow such a fill in to hold. But here she was; a battlefield's iron supply and a system of pulleys and ramps. . . .

and as soon as the whole thing pieced together she looked on just as unsure as she was when she started.

" Uhm can I ask you something ? "
" Yes ? "
" Do Castors feel.... pain ? "
" What kind of pain are we talking here ?
" The burning molten lava kind "
" No."

With a hammerswing she breaks the wooden wedge, that kept the contraption back. And as soon as it tipped over, the iron runs sizzled and slithered as it poured over the wooden ramps and into the castor's torso mold. . . ..
>>
>>20791302

The next morning. ...

After much chiseling, the Dwarf had worked on in silence. The memories of complications and potential tragedy behind her. For one, the Castor's shoulders were for a while unable to move. But now it's just stiff and heavy, complications similar to prosthetic /victims/.

" What are you doing ? "
" I'm etching storm clouds on the iron, before it completely cools down, I'd want to leave my mark on it. "
" The sun is beginning to rise, are you tired ? "
" I'm not . . . this is kind of amazing. Are you fine with this ? The damage is pretty much fixed but something this intensive means there are no do overs. Your arms are literally iron mechanisms now. If they break, repairing them will be costly. "
" I understand "

It was night and our lamps stabbed into the greenery in the distance as we spotted a courier in red. Her cloak carries with it a quality that drained everything around her of its color.

In our minds we could already surmise that she was either a messenger from the Queen, or a herald for a royal Vanguard.

But no such thing appeared.

We met her halfway, the town elder quick to approach, his eyes restless and anxious.

" An army, we required an army." he wheezes " Many men and women from dozens of towns over have already been corrupted by the damned ghouls and we cannot afford to let them through this gate for much longer "

A hand.

The courier in red raises it with an authority that no messenger I've ever known carried.

" Her majesty has already sent her armies forth, from Windsdale to Noonsign. This scourge is bigger than you think. And it is spreading actively. "

The man's eyes widen.
"Then if there are no armies then how are we to protect the gate with any guarantee of success? "
" It's simple, if you cannot guarantee protection of this leyling, the gate from GrayWind to the Veil will be destroyed to stem further corruption. " She says lightly. The pale of the moon lighting the fields clear as day. It was a mad moon this night. " However what I've come here for is the reverse, in fact you might be interested in this proposition more... do you care to hear it ? or shall I ready my spirits ? "

We believe that the ones behind the ghoulings could be traced back here, in southern Iffram, the enemy we are dealing with has advanced millitary training, capable of predicting where our numbers move, but limited resources as you can see by the rampant ghoulings and the odd maurauder group or two of unmen. And so, if we are correct, they have dug themselves in, and you are the closest staging point to get to them.

Instead of defense, I wish for you to offense, clear up as many roads as you can, connect to as many of the other cities in peril and together you will prevail just as the Ragnyllians did against their invaders. If only for a short while, until real reinforcements arrive to get here and spearhead the assaults themselves. "

The defense of one gate is an easy task, that even I can do it alone. Take a handful of your own with you, everytime you go out into the veil, our objective is to open up the roads or the leylines to the other towns that have them. Of course we would have to get there first on foot to do so. And if there are indeed threats to the town, a simple portal spell back to this gate should be sufficient.

With this much advantages you need not worry, your jobs will be to make these connections as best as you can.

The message delivered and the messenger departed, Eldred sighs and heads back to the bar.

As the wave of inebriation washes back over him, the spell holding him sober for the meeting having worn off, Eldred stumbles inside and tells some of the regulars to inform the townspeople to assemble the following morning. [Story]
The sounds of birds woke Freyja from her slumber. She groaned at the stiffness that comes from sleeping on hard ground and slowly got up. The blanket someone had placed on her slipped to pool at her feet as she looked around in slight bewilderment. THe frame she used as a mold, blackened from heat stood a testement that it was not all a dream, she had really done it. It wasn't truly healing a Castor but it was as good as. She then turned to the forge, still warm from the heat of the previous night and examined the bloq she had created. Despite her success with the operation she still had no idea on what to do with the thing. Perhaps someone else would. She was not so arrogant that she thought she knew everything about crafting after all.

However, when the dorfs had heard of his tanking concoctions, he was dared to do his worse on one stoic miner who has never been downed by this bar's pale ales in all his third life*.

It was here that Tycho's curiosity got the better of him, and with such daring goading him on, he mixed what could have been a strength mix dosed for horses and a concoction similar to magic fire which- when detonated inside someone, would vaporize the drinks hitting the drinker thrice as hard.

And dare I say it, Martel Meadleaf must be rolling in his sleep. Because in the following day, Baldwin the stoic had been held in 3 jail cells, one inside the other- wrapped in chains and still sobering up after stomping a table to the ground while dancing, killing ALL the squirrels in the western forest, and a number of other things that even the Trackers are still trying scratching their head over.

For all his contributions,
Tycho was unfortunately barred from being a mixer in that wayhouse, his presence in a bar being a subject of world ending panic.

> Tycho gains the BERSERK Formula; +2Str and the target destroys the first thing it's looking at and everything that looks like it.
> Tycho receives 250 gold in severance pay. He can't ever work in that bar again.

Also crafting question!

I was originally thinking it was a skill you dumped exp in and could consistently craft that skill level any time... but now I'm thinking it might be spending xp on crafting a single item. Which is correct?

(The second means crafting is extremely detrimental for low levels hah!)

The young Sleekfoot would wait for an opening between Eldred and the messenger to place in a word, fingers gripping tightly on a glass flask filled with the odd water mixture he had.

"Excuse me Eldred, could I have a word with you? I have found something rather interesting that might interest you when I went to search the battlefield yesterday. Some odd oily mixture in the water that the trolls seemed highly wary off."

He hands the vial to the taller man, hoping he'd have a better clue at what it could be then someone from the guard.

"I'd also like to talk about the kind of help I could give for the...war effort." the words left his throat dry, words he'd hope he wouldn't have to say in his lifetime, or at least for years to come.
>>
>>20801122
Eldred looks down at the sleekfoot. Taking the flask, he holds it up to the sky and peers through it. "I'm not certain that the river was like this before the ghouls came. The trolls were cautious around it? Could be a result from all the undead bleeding into the rivers. Or..." he pockets the flask, "this substance could be how these invaders are spreading the ghoulification. Poisoning our water supplies. Have everyone informed not to draw water from the rivers.

Oh, and collect some more samples. We should send some off to the capital. Now, what was it you wished to talk to me about?"
>>
>>20801122
"I am fairly certain that one specific troll was trying to chop down a tree to cross the river so he would not touch the water. Nevertheless I'd like to propose myself for scouting duty. I may not look like much but I'm positive without a doubt that I'm the fastest member of the village on foot." He'd puff his small chest, "My experience as a tracker used to be for hunting and food but I could make good use of it to find information, passages and all sorts of usefull things, not to mention lay out traps where you'd need me to if the enemy ever tries another assault.

He had remembered it at the edge of his mind, a massive hunger, an army of black teeth. This was how he died. How a dragon faced something as infantesimal and degrading as mortality. It was always a wonder how humans lived on with this crippling handicap, or how Castors felt when finally the last pebble had left them. For Drakkei it was a truly alien concept.

Death.

For them it meant erasing a life, so that the world could go on without the involvement of that life. It meant passing by , never to see them again. And that this was to apply to everyone. Drakkei hardly see death, only observe it, and age was never really a thing they talked about, only prefixed in their meandering stories.

And it was at the twilight of accepting his fate in that cursed river did he suddenly wake up from it like a sobering nightmare. A gasp of fresh air after an eternity of darkness, and it was here that the magnitude of such a loss had gripped him and let go.

Argo could do nothing but weep in that bleak battlefield.

> Argo learns the meaning of Death. 20 Exp
>>
>>20804817

This took me a bit to think about. But I think thorsday is the day for dragons.
>>
>>20804951
How fun!
>>
Argo stood up from the cursed field as he tucked the lingering teeth of death into the back of his mind. He had died once but now walks again, A rare privilege even for Dragons. He must take advantage of it. He straightens himself up as a proper Drakkei would and strolls into town. Intent on making the most out of his second chance at life.

If I dual wield a weapon I lose all of my high +hit special skill, right? But instead if I had 2 hammers I could do 6 attack per rounds instead of 3? So with upgraded weapons it becomes *better* to dual wield.

I'd think you'd keep the bonus you get for being trained in a weapon while dual wielding it. You just need to deal with the weight.

=Dragul Historia=

The library hadn't touted such a large collection, most of it had been bedtime stories, referrential texts, and writings from local Scholomancers who wanted to add to their hometowns' collections. But in here, even books were considered a prime source of entertainment for those who stayed at home.

Rockwell turned the first page to what was possibly the first book that chronicled the first Drakkei,
Siggraph the Mighty, and Hekematyr the Red were the first prominents due to their upbringing as brother and sister to a dragon father, and a Giantess mother.

Siggraph had the head of a man, but Hekematyr saw the beauty of monsters and so the two siblings cut the kingdoms of their Dragonfather in twain ruling the empires to their preference. Siggraph taught men to be strong and smart, while Hekematyr told monsters of their strengths and beauty, filling them with pride. The two ruled mightily until the farthest reach of their kingdoms crossed on the other side of world where their subjects encountered "strange " invaders. To Siggraph's men, they saw misshapen and fearsome creatures, To Hekematyr's scouts they felt the fear of a thousand "same" looking monsters that had selfishly ruled their world unilaterally. Unaware of each others' kingdoms, the two Siblings' realms fought a bloody war for a decade, each onestabbing into one another's territories until they found each other out.

With too much blood on both sides, and with no way to simply stop the war on mutual peace , they have resigned to end the war by fighting each other in single combat.

They fought for exactly 1 month until the two of them have destroyed each other with their own power.

With the reign of the twin dragons over, Humans fell into despair, taking Siggraph's teachings to make empires of their own. While Hekematyr's subjects languished for decades and centuries, consuming humans to sate their wrath.

Rockwell turned the page the whole story seemed blown out of proportion and was for the most part misrepresentative of their nature.

The next Drakkei he encountered was Wymar, later known as The Black Tyrant of Scales, later defeated in the Valknyres, after ruling over the humans with an ironfist by Ascheron Von Voss.

And then in no chronological order, Balthus white wing who served in Cruxtania, and then under Alexander and now presides as a marshall of the Alexandrian Holy Army.

Drakkei weren't found in large numbers, in fact it was rare for a family to meet each other again after maturation, each offspring going so far into their own path as to seek meaning or power in their existence. And indeed the tendency for all drakkei was to keep building power until someone of equal strength ended them. It was rare for them to die of natural causes, so it was literally a subject of morbid curiosity that most Drakkei died of murder after such a long life. To affect the world was their great concern, so much so that the movements of other races seemed trivial. It was for this reason that most Drakkei kept themselves around powerful agents or those with prolifically long lives.

An engrossing document on how they fought was nowhere to be found. All that was left of that description was " powerful "

Who's that pokemon?!
>>
Rockwell would dump the book back on his table sighing loudly in the library. Not caring much for the librarian's *shhhhhhh* to which he'd answer back with a slamming of the door on the way, the Drakkei would keep pondering.

It makes sense that no actual fighting style or legacy would be written, seeing as he had read mostly history more then anything. However it did make one single thing clear, he'd have to build his legacy one cracked skull at the time and survive long enough to do so.

His head filled with the glory of his ancestors, Rockwell decided he'd cool right back down at the pub with the nice centaur barmaids. Stopping in his tracks inches away from the door he'd stop, a large thick tree having caught his attention. Grabbing the hammer from his belt, he'd breathe in deep, concentrating on the target. Leaves would fall after a large /crack/ sound echoed in the village, Rockwell's hammer jammed in the tree, having caved in the wood from a powerful throw. "Power, destruction, leadership...I'l make my mark." laughing loudly he'd enter the pub, "Barwench, give me another cask!" he'd signal.
