I don't think three people really cuts it. It's just as well, given all the shit that's happened today. Ah well..

If people are still excited for the quest thread, I will be trying this one again on THURSDAY, at the normal time of 4:30PM, EASTERN STANDARD TIME. I sincerely hope that everything goes according to plan then.

Ok. I am to. But i guess is to late.

You sure, you're up for it? I'd like some copper-age tribal action, but only if the GM is feeling up for it.

Like I'd let you folks down. At the very least, there's a battle to be had, in spite of Groza's ire. Who else is ready?
>>
Lets go!

Captcha: exclaimed daessio
>>
Come on anons join!
>>
Alright, we're rolling with what we've got.

When last we left the tribe:
A little over a hundred of the tribe are ready to march on the enemy village, carrying a mix of copper and flint spears, knives and shields. Trym agrees to march with the warriors, but Rina refuses to join, citing her sudden sickness as making her unable to travel. Carrying food and supplies for such a large force is non-trivial, but with the carts and lots of trips back-and-forth over the river on rafts, it's finally achieved.

The attack force marches on to the top of the hills the supply of copper is found in, where it's easy to overlook the enemy village. It would seem the tribe's approach has been spotted and the village is currently acting like an overturned ant's nest. The prisoner is brought forward and forced to kneel. The warrior who cut off his fingers raises his knife to the sky and calls upon Groza to witness the sacrifice and grant the warriors strength in the coming battle. His knife flashes down and he slits the man's throat, spilling his blood upon the ground. Out of no-where, a spear with a flint head, bones tied to it and rattling as it flies, embeds itself deep in the ground, between the warrior's feet. Groza's voice sounds from no-where. "Bound, unarmed, helpless, wounded and weak, killed without even a chance to hold a weapon and fight. Do not insult me again with such an offering!" A tremor of dread runs through the warriors. It does not seem an auspicious start to the battle.
>>
>>20776861
How will the tribe open the attack on the hostile village?
A) Charge
B) Encircle the village and cut off escape
C) Issue a challenge
D) Demand their surrender
E) Other
>>
A challenge to their chief makes sense. If we win, their morale will be low (or berserking, who knows) and we should regain the favor of Gorza. Maybe even if we lose we will regain the favour.
Anyone agrees?
>>
>>20776880
I think we need to patch things up with Groza
C) We issue a challenge I think Groza would like that.
>>
>>20776919
Yes. But is a chief in full combat strength?
>>
B) We kill off their warriors and force the women and children to merge into us becoming a lower subservient caste.
>>
Also I was thinking about this maybe if we gain a little favor with Gronza we could use that scary looking bone spear.
>>
>>20776952
What do you mean by that? I just assumed their chief is their best warrior, so we should challenge him.
So i guess it is
C) for me
>>
2 votes for C and 1 for B
>>
>>20776988
I think surrounding the village would maybe thin out our lines too much.. Though it would also force them to stay in the center so they wouldn't risk being stabbed in the back.
>>
Hrunti leads a small party of the warriors forward, standing just outside of the range of a spear-cast. He calls out to the village, demanding they send their best out to meet him. What emerges is not what he expects.

Two men appear, neither of them particularly young, nor elders. One of them wears a long cloak made from large feathers, a hood with a copper beak, resembling a bird of prey, fitted over his head. The other wears the skin of a great, tawny animal, its paws knotted around his neck and its head covering his, a huge, shaggy mane seeming almost to be his own hair.

The man in the feathered cloak steps forward and clears his throat, "We know you not, stranger, though we guess who you are. You show courage to come before us with so few, but my eyes see many more in the hills behind you. Why do you bring so many if you wish for an honourable fight?"

How will Hrunti respond? The feather-wearer seems to speak the tribe's tongue, but crudely.
A) Aggressive
B) Neutral
C) Jovial
D) Treacherous
>>
>>20777282
B) We gonna kill him anyway so don't be rude.
>>
>>20777282
B) no need to be rude
>>
B) Neutral
They haven't gotten aggressive towards us yet and if we can avoid a slaughter, it may well benefit both tribes. We should keep our cool and react if it comes to it, it looks like we might get an honourable duel that will satisfy both parties.
>>
>>20777282
C) Jovial
"If you wish an honourable fight, why don't you send your best warrior to fight me? I have come to chew seeds and stab fighters. And I'm all out of seeds."
>>
>>20777316
>>20777322
>>20777344

Sorry, but you guys are hilarious. "They killed a bunch of our tribe, but we don't have to be rude."
I like that.

Polite sage for offtopic.
>>
Neutral is all well and good folks, but give me something to work with here! Trym is your avatar and the attitude is neutral, so how does he respond? I don't need a whole speech here, but a little pointer of two would be lovely...
>>
>>20777469
I think he would say some thing like "We have brought so many as to assure that there is a fare fight between both of us. So bring forth your greatest warrior and we will bring forth ours"
>>
>>20777469
Something along the lines of "Ours is a fair way of fighting. Though you've slaughtered us without reason, we would still give you dignity. We will not however, take another insult to our honour. Our tribe is here to make sure of that."
>>
> That's more like it folks.

The feather-wearer narrows his eyes and speaks to the one wearing the tawny skin in a strange language. After a brief exchange, he turns back, "We fought you the way we always have. The lion spirit calls us to battle, just as the crow spirit calls us to the spoils. Your tribe is the first to give us a true fight since the days of my father's father. Do not accuse us of acting dishonourably."

"You are strange to come before us to fight," he goes on, "What would clever would be if you had simply attacked and not given us warning. But you are strong, so you may do things your way. If you seek a fight, we will grant you it."

How will Trym respond?
A) Accept and get ready to fight
B) Question the feather-wearer about the strange tribe.
C) Demand a prize if he wins
D) Other
>>
>>20777646
A) Victory is a prize for its own.
>>
>>20777646
I think we should do A) and before we start I want the champion we are using to dedicate this fight to Gronza and see if he can use the weird spear that I hope is still in the ground were we left it.
>>
>>20777646
B) I want to know where they come from and why they want to fight us so badly. Also ask about their spirits.
>>
C) These guys are strong, but we need to win since we came this far. We will fight our absolute hardest and in return if we win we will earn something. That something being that one day far in the future or even tomorrow, if we call for them to fight alongside us, they must. This could prove to be extremely helpful if we fall under attack.
>>
>>20777705
I am gonna let my curiosity get the better of me want I am going to change my answer to B) and ask about the spirits
>>
>>20777724
An addendum. Seeing them dead would raise moral, but even more useful would be indebting them to us.
>>
Woo, Civ Qest!
>>
>>20777758
Hi archer get your neck beard in here.
>>
>>20777776
Already here, my friend. Also, I vote for A.
>>
>>20777724
I like your thinking. Till now I have just considered their full obliteration (so they won't come back later and stab us), though that makes us kind of mean. Or driving them off, but that would make them be able to come back.

If they are willing to agree to that after the fight we should do that. Good thinking!
>>
2 for B) 2 for A) and 1 for C)
who can convince anon to change his vote
>>
rolled 2 = 2

>>20777856
It's time for a roll-off then!

On a 1-3, Trym will just accept and fight
On a 4-6, he will first demand that the other tribe owes his a boon if he wins.
>>
>>20777856
Ok I guess. We can ask some questions first. B)
>>
>>20777876
Time to get our fight on
>>
Might be a bit difficult, what with that lion spirit thing telling them to attack all the time? That's my guess at least, since they didn't even try to communicate with us before attacking. Also, have you guys considered Trym might have to fightboth guys at once? This might not be so good...
>>
>>20777894
I think it was pretty clear that is was a 1v1 fight to the death.
>>
>>20777887
Ohhh, got in the vote for B just in time! Lucky sod. Hold on while I draft it up then.
>>
>>20777914
Hm, let's hope so. Or maybe first one, then the other? I see little hope in the other tribe giving up if we just kill one of these mooks.
>>
>>20777941
Well, even if they don't pack their shit up right away, it will have raised our morale and maybe standing with Gorza. And if we lose, we may at least go back to neutral with him, after what the Anons did to a defenseless warrior in the last thread. (Shame I wasn't there)
>>
The man in the feather cloak nods as Trym asks of the tribe's spirits. "It is as I said. The lion spirit Roahaa calls us to the fight. He found us and we him long ago and the chief of my grandfather's grandfather wrestled him until both were tired and spent. He teaches us to be strong and fearless, to seek battle with ferocity. Likewise, the spirit of the crows, Creygin, teaches us to take what we can from the dead, for they need it not and by it, we become strong, so that our children might live and grow strong in their turn. Does that answer your question?"

A) It does. Fight time!
B) Yes, more questions though please!
C) Not really...
D) So, about the prize...
E) Other
>>
>>20777979
I had no idea gronza would act that way so sorry
>>
>>20777979
As i'm seeing more of them, they seem to be guided by a very aggressive spirit who doesn't lend to reason. Neutrality isn't really helpful as it'll last until their spirits decide they need to fight someone which, all things considered, will be very short time. We need to either bend them to our will or get rid of them altogether if we want to survive.
>>
>>20777991
I vote for A)
>>
>>20777991

A)
>>
>>20777991
I'm a bit iffy on a fight right now since we've pissed off Groza. Granted we will have Hrunti and he is invariably stronger since we defeated him but eh. Maybe if we build some sort of relationship with these people things could work out. Who knows? It's just a thought.
>>
>>20778041
This is how I see it as well. That's why I've been advocating we get rid of these folks quickly.
Also, A.
>>
>>20777991
A, blood for the Blood God!
>>
A) We know everything we need.

>bookkeeper olflua
You are so silly captcha...
>>
>>20778077
Groza will come round, seeing as we're about to enter an honorable duel right now. At least I guess he will try to hinder the orher party from doing something underhanded while the duel is ongoibg. He is close by, after all. We might get back in his good books if we win too, at least if we do it the honorable way, this guy is all about fairness in battle and single combat it seems.
>>
>>20777991
B) If we win this fight, will you leave us alone and leave these lands?

>>20778000
No problem, our tribe will make mistakes at one point or another. Though I wouldn't have wanted to go down that torture/maim route.

>>20778041
You might be right. Their choice of spirits suggests that they will probably rather die than bend.
>>
D) Once again i'd like to try and get them to agree to fight with us should we request it.

Something like "Your tribe's lion spirit demands fierce battle then. If we should win, rather than slaughtering eachother, I would rather you agree to aid us if we come under fierce attack. Surely that would be agreeable with your spirit, and would motivate an incredible duel between warriors.
>>
>>20778118
Does the tribe chose the spirits, or the spirits, the tribe? Either way, keep in mind YOUR choice of spirits and the fact that IT doesn't always reflect on you. Either way...

Trym accepts the explanation and readies his spear. The two skin-wearers return to their village and shortly return with a tall, powerfully-built warrior, his face streaked with many of those lines that characterise the tribe. He wears an elaborate harness, over a leather-hide tunic and skin pants, tied at the ankles. In his hands, he wields two copper axes.

The warrior takes up position, stepping carefully and his axes raised, his eyes darting back and forth, judging Trym's stance and attitude. Behind him, the man wearing the lion skin starts to chant, almost in a manner like Rina.

DUEL
Duels will be decided via a rock-paper-scissors sytem.
A ferocious ATTACK beats a readied DEFENCE, dealing light damage.
A powerful SPECIAL will defeat and ATTACK'S raw power, dealing heavy damage.
A readied DEFENCE will deflect a SPECIAL, dealing moderate damage.
Two ATTACKS will result in a stand-off. At the moment, the odds are 50/50 that your hunter will win and deal MODERATE damage
Two SPECIALS will result in both parties taking moderate damage.
Two DEFENCES will result in a stand-off and neither party will take damage.

Watch your opponent's mannerisms and try to predict his moves!

>>
>>20778260
>Does the tribe chose the spirits, or the spirits, the tribe?

Interesting, and you have a point there!
Also I somehow knew you would bring a badass champion like that, and I like the double axes.

>>
Open with a SPECIAL.
This guy is wielding two axes, weapons known for their crushing strength and slow speed. It's likely he'll be aggressive rather than defensive, but we'll still have to watch how he reacts.
>>
>>20778310
Trym's leveled up a little. That HP upgrade is a result of that. Now then, let's have your opening gambit.

As another note, I'm upping the lethality. Shit takes too long otherwise.
>>
>>20778361
Alright then, he looks to be a bit wary, trying to gain judgement of how Trym will fight so I suggest we start with an attack do his defend.
>>

Cool. Then lets start with an ATTACK.

Sensing hesitation on the part of his opponent, Trym lunges forward, his spear slipping past this opponent's raised guard. The champion manages to deflect the thrust from his vital organs, but it still scores a jagged line in his hide protection.

Worried by the fierce light in the champion's eyes, Trym raises his spear defensively, only to be caught completely off-guard by the warrior's sudden charge! Grabbing the spear, the warrior wrestles Trym for control, before raising his free hand high, the axe flashing in the sun, before he brings it down heavily onto Trym's shoulder. The copper scales of Trym's coat fly off, sheered off by the swing, but there is thankfully little blood. With a heave, Trym pushes the warrior away and resumes his stance, rattled, but alive.

AND THAT'S THE TIE-BREAKER!

Trym takes the initiative at the exact moment the champion does! The two of them clash, spear locked to axes, straining against each other to gain the upper hand... Then suddenly, a spectral beast, a great lion, seems to rear on its hind legs, half-behind, half-within the strange warrior and his strength surges! Anticipating the move, Trym turns, letting the warrior slide past. Tyrm draws his knife as he turns, striking for the warrior's stomach, but all he catches is the arm, as the man's axe rakes Trym's stomach, sending yet more scales flying from the now quite shabby-looking scale coat!

I wonder if there is some way to get Groza to help Trym now that he is bloody and well into this difficult duel. Groza is surely displeased at our horrible sacrifice, but considering that we have to now acknowledge that other tribes also have spirits, Groza will know that we need him and will be entirely less likely to anger him in the future. Dedicate this battle and the warriors weapons to his temple, ya know.

Nothing too serious, I understand since it would be Trym offering up a quick battlefield prayer, but perhaps a slight boost to his speed or strength maybe?
>>

Nah, wait, I change my defend to special. He is circling looking for an opening.

Sorry. With Groza's shrine only just established and no word from you folks on just who, if anyone, Trym worships, as well as the fact that Groza has no priesthood yet AND you botched the sacrifice, it's unlikely Trym would be able to muster a battlefield prayer that would actually achieve something.

Trym opts to play it defensive, keeping back and using his spear to keep the range. The other warrior keep circling warily, neither of the two making a move for the other.

I think we should stay a while and try to figure out the champions tells and what not. because we have to get 3 in a row for us to win.

Okay, what i've got so far is that the chanting doesn't start until we make an attack. It doesn't have to succeed, we just have to make a move.

Well I am noticed that the length of britfags descriptions is shorter when the champion is defending. That is probably a coincident

I think the chanting is a perma-bonus and is constantly active until the shaman is exhausted, giving a steady boost.
Was the same for our shaman. Maybe the special from the champion was what exhausted the shaman's power, as he improved it though.

Also the champion doesn't want to attack until the shaman starts to chant. He didn't attack in the first round because the shaman had not started to chant and when the shaman got exhausted he deafened.
