Starting a bit earlier today, I need to sleep at night. if it works out, this'll be our new time.
Also: new OP image! score. Thank you sir, for those.

The archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike+witches+1989

Being in a squadron full of nothing but witches has it's benefits, you reflect.

After all, you don't think you could have bribed that marine huey driver with thirty cases of the best alcohol, and Slider and Mav did it in about fifteen seconds. Maybe ten. The fact that you were well aware of what they were doing made it just that much funnier- the poor jarhead had no chance against the combined onslaught of the two girls.

That they'd already put on their bikini tops may have helped their argument's persuasiveness.

It's Saturday morning- your first one off since arriving just under a week ago. A day off, thankfully enough. You're ten 'combat' missions in, now, and two points behind Ice, with Mav and Slider both a point behind you. The next nearest in score is Davenport’s sister, A leggy redhead with the unimaginative call sign Blaze and his flight lead- Heartbreak, though they, too, are just a scant few points back. But the strain of two dogfights a day is starting to tell on both you and Merlin.

Right now, though, you're enjoying the beach- surprisingly, fairly empty, still, though you suspect that will change. You'd be enjoying it a whole lot more if your squadron mates weren't a bunch of....

“CHEATING WHORES!” you roar, as you dive for the ball- a largely wasted effort that gains you nothing but a face full of sand. Merlin looks up, briefly, from her spot under an umbrella, where she's engrossed in a popular mechanics. Again. Slider and Maverick's laughter follow you down.

“Awwww” Maverick taunts from the other side of the net. “Magic no fair?” Slider, laughing, merely sticks her tongue out at you. “your serve!” she yells, hi-fiving maverick.

Your serve- high and arcing- is an easy target for Slider, who laughingly moves to intercept it. “HAHA! I wouldn't have even needed magic for this one!” she says, eyeing the high, almost ballistic arc the it's taken.

A split second later she dives away from the incoming volleyball, now encumbered by a layer of ice several inches thick.

“HA!” you crow, pointing. “SERVES YA RIGHT!” She glares at you as she attempts to brush the sand off herself, with moderate success. You gave up trying long ago, knowing full well that sunscreen tends to make sand stick to skin far better. That and trying to brush it off means it'll inevitably end up in inconvenient places.

“All's fair” you hear Ice say from behind you in a singsong voice.

Fuck yeah

Ice had been the one to suggest volleyball, oddly enough, and your first game, you'd teamed up with maverick, winning 10-7. You'd grimaced when Mav and Slider had partnered up, leaving you with Ice, but she's proven surprisingly adept, and so far, you've been able to keep it tied up, for the most part. And when Mav and Slider started pulling out their glittery bullshit, Ice responded in kind.

Maybe she's not so bad after all.

Those last two points have made it 8-8, and it's their serve. How do you want to play this?

[] Hang back a bit, in case of long shots- Mav's serving, and she always puts a lot into it.

[x] Up front! Slider can react far faster than you can, but you're a lot bigger, and that counts for something, right?

It occurs to you that, with the three of them pulling out the sparkly bullshit, you're at a distinct disadvantage at the net. Slider, especially, is known to be able to crank her reflexes to 11- not exactly something you can compete with.

But none of the three of them can enhance their strength- at least, none of them have ever done it before. Your mom once told you things like that run down family lines, it's not like magic in D&D or whatever- you can't learn new tricks.

Or something along those lines, you weren't really paying attention, at the time. Atari, man. The bane of your education.

You drop back, nodding to Ice, who moves up to the net. She's not going to be as fast as Slider either, but she's going to be closer, which counts.

Mav's serve is, as per her usual, long, arching high over the net and Ice. It's also a laughingly easy target- if Ice was on the other team, you'd be staying well clear of the damn thing. But she's not, so you're not sure of her game, here.

You return it easily enough, lofting it into Slider, who pops it back up long enough for mav to volley it back over the net.

The back-and-forth up front continues for a little while, till finally Slider manages to spike it straight past Ice and into the sand.

9-8, their favor, your serve.

This is a bad, bad situation. You'll NEVER hear the end of this if they beat you. Not till the world stops and time crumbles to dust and the stars go out and you're all long dead legends of a long dead carbon-based species that, ages ago converted themselves to 80 mile tall battle robots to fight clones in mechs...

or something. Your mind went to a weird place, there.

Your serve is short, coming in far to the left of Slider. Of course, she's able to return it, though you see her shaking out her arms afterwards- even without the ice on it, those things can get some good speed going, she'll probably have a bruise.

You can't bring yourself to care. Cheaters get what they deserve.

The return is long, and you bounce it forward to Ice- who drives it right over slider just far enough in front of Maverick that her last-second dive misses.

“ACK! THERE'S SAND EVERYWHERE” Mav moans, standing up. “EEEEEVRYWHERE!”

it occurs to you that falling over laughing would probably get you a swift kick to the ribs under normal circumstances. Thankfully, these aren't normal circumstances.

[x] Stick to the plan! You'll stay in the backfield.

You take a second to compose yourself, though small bouts of laughter occasionally still escape your steely self-control.

You kind of almost wish Merlin hadn't been here, just so you could have made a joke when Mav started wailing about the sand being everywhere.

Because, really, EVERYWHERE? Too good a shot to have to waste.

Mav is either struggling with the sand, or she's trying to copy you- her serve is short, though more centered than yours, and Ice is easily able to counter. Ice and Slider trade, back and forth, with mav staying mostly out of it.

It's on a short volley you see your chance. Ice is out of place, far to the other side of the field, and Slider's sent it up as a drive, not quite a spike, but on a pretty flat arch.

It's also directly in front of you.

Sprinting, you're able to intercept it, popping it back into the air long enough that Ice is able to drive it into the sand just barely out of Slider's reach. 10-9, your game.

“HAHA! SUCK IT!” You yell, giving Ice a hi-five.

“Oh, like there's enough to su...” Mav says, before being interrupted by something short, flies into her ribs, making a high-pitched squealing noise the entire time.

“Oh. hey Frank, your family's here!” Merlin adds, helpfully.

“gee, thanks Merlin”

You look, briefly, at the struggling form of your squadronmate and friend thrashing, vainly, on the ground, with your little sister perched right in the small of her back, laughing like a maniac with a meat cleaver. Well, actually, knowing your Jessica, it'd be an ice pick, but still.

You turn, seeing your mom and dad for the first time in nearly six months. “Mom! Dad! You... you guys brought Jessica? Patty's never, ever going to forgive me” you say, hugging your mom and firing your dad a crisp salute.

The one advantage you have, here, isn't physical. It's mental. You know your sister, hell, you taught her just about every trick she has!

What you didn't do was teach her every trick YOU have.

You shift your feet just slightly, bending your knees just a little bit. Your sister, up and running at this point, launches herself into the air, twisting herself into a flying, cross body tackle.

It's actually easier to counter than a straight-on tackle, and you're able to catch her without too much trouble. She looks up at you. “hi, Bro!” she says cheerily.

You dump her unceremoniously on the sand. “Hi, Jess.”

“OH GOD, SAND!” Maverick wails from behind you.

“so, Volleyball, huh?” Your mom says, gazing at the court. “Hmm. You should have brought more of your pilot friends. Or maybe some Marines.”

“Mom!” you say, trying to sound properly outraged and scandalized. “Marines?”

“What you got against the corps, boy?” Your dad growls. “Your sister's thinking of doing her term with them!”

“hornets are cool!” Jessica adds helpfully.

“hornets, huh? Yeah, you'd probably have to join Uncle Sam's misguided children for those. Oh, hang on a sec, lemme introduce some people.” You say, getting a wicked grin. “here, Jessica, this is my CO, Lieutenant commander Tabitha Kazanski, Callsign Ice, and Lieutenant junior grade Rachel 'Slider' Kerner. The two of them use hornets. Sometimes. Ice, Slider, this is my little sister. Jessica Bishop. Y'all play nice, now”

Jessica, without missing a beat, launches into an unending barrage of questions, mostly about striker flight in general and the hornet specifically. Ice and Slider look like they'd like to run, but they don't really have anywhere to go, do they?

It was a perfect ambush, through and through.

Your dad laughs. “Hell yeah I'm hungry. What have ya got?”

“oh, man, dad. I got just the place.”

You toss a look back over your shoulder at ice and slider edging apart from each other, trying to split up and let one get away. Jessica, for her part, has latched onto Ice and isn't letting go, following her as she tries to gain some separation and make a run for it.

“Hey Jess! Ya hungry?” You yell. “I'm buying!”

“can Tabby come with?” She asks. “Pleeeeeeeassssse?”

“Jessica. The puppy-dog eyes don't work on me. Also: does she WANT to come?” you say, with mock seriousness.

“Do ya? Doyadoyadoyadoyadoyadoya?” you hear your sister say.

“I... uh... I... I guess?” Ice says.

“Yay!” Your sister grabs her by the wrist. “She said yes!”

The burger joint is run by a huge former Navy-turned-biker guy who tells everyone who meets him to call him 'Santa'. Rumors hold he's a highly decorated multi-ace with some ungodly number of kills in the F-8 Crusader, but he's never confirmed or denied them, and his wife just smiles whenever anyone asks.

You're in good with them mostly because you eat there almost constantly, and because one time you snuck Santa up for a ride in a 14 while your carrier was docked up. He seemed suitably impressed at the time.

“Fronk! The usual?” He yells as you enter the doors.

“Santa! Yeah, for me. Got some guests though!”

He laughs. “I see! Family?”

You nod. “yessir! And my RIO and my CO”

[x] One of the patio tables!

“Santa! We're gonna go eat out on the patio!” You yell, climbing up the set of stairs in the back that lead to the second story balcony tables. All the outdoor tables around here are 'patio' tables- but that's never seemed to be a problem before, Santa seems to be unerringly be able to deliver the correct meal to the correct table every time.

You pass the time amicably enough, making small talk and trying to keep your sister from driving your CO utterly insane. Your dad and mom just got home about a week ago, they were visiting your brothers over in Europe, and stopped in to spend some time with your grandma on the way back.
“How's grandma doing, anyway?” you ask. Your dad shrugs. “she's getting on, alright. You know it's been pretty rough since your granddaddy died.” You nod, at that.

“yeah. Hey! She still make those pancakes?”

Jessica grins. “yeeeeep. And I got a whole plate to myself!” You glare at her with undisguised envy. “I hate you so much, right now” you growl. “so, so much”

“Fronk!” Santa interrupts you before you can go on with horrific death threats. “You behave, boy, or you go on the bad kid's list! What'll y'all have?”

(1/2)
>>
Your dad orders the house special- “eight tiny reindeer” which is a burger about the size of your jet, with room leftover for the rest of the carrier's air wing to boot. Merlin and Jessica both order the smaller bacon cheeseburger, and Jessica adds a milkshake.

“hey Merlin” you say. “Pick out a desert. I still owe you for Monday morning”

“any of them?” she asks, awed. Santa looks over in shock at you.

You nod, knowing full well what you're doing. “any of them.”

“I want... hey, what's this 'ultra chocolate' cake?”

You feel the blood drain from your face. Oh, god.

Santa's gone about as white as his beard too. “Fronk, 'mboy, you may have bargained for more than you can handle!”

“Uh...” Ice seems to be at a loss. “Then... uh...” she looks at you. “Got any suggestions? You seem to eat here a lot, Lieutenant”

“Ayep. Santa, bring my skinny CO a sharkbait”

Santa grins. “Fronk, 'mboy, you're still a good kid. Be about fifteen minutes”

“Also, ma'am, we're off duty. You can call me Fronk. Or Frank. At least use my callsign like we do with everyone else all the time”

“HEY!” Jessica yells. “what is your callsign anyway? Is it something badass? Like, Ripper or Mangler or Reaper or Tiger or Lion or something? I bet it isn't it? What is it? Whatisitwhatisitwhatisit”

“Good god, Jess. How much coffee did you have?”

[x] tell her!

“Warhound” You say. The other one -”broomdog” is pretty much reserved for the pilots that hate you, which is just as well. You hate it, and them, too.

“Neat! How'd you get it?”

“because” Ice says, quietly. “He's like a starving warhound. Give him a target, and he's going to go after it full-bore. Sometimes regardless of what anyone else wants.”

Your dad smiles at that. “That's my boy!” he says. Your mom, on the other hand, looks worried.

“That's not always the safest way to fly” she says. “You ought to ask your grandmother about the pilots she knew during the war who did that. Or the ones I knew, for that matter.”

“ah, it's ok mom.” you say with a shrug. “It's not like there's a war on anywa..”

“Presents!” Santa yells, ascending the stairs behind you with two huger trays of food. His wife, behind him, has a slice of the near-legendary “ultra chocolate” cake. You don't know what's in it, or how it's made, but the stuff is like... it's like someone took the concept of delicious, and gave it form.

Your own burger, a scaled-down 'monsterbacon' burger, is probably the best 'human-scale' thing he makes here.

(1/2)
>>
“So how's Jake? And Rex, I haven't heard from him in a while” you say around a mouthful of burger.

“Jake's fine, loving the country” your mom says. “Rex says he hates England, but he loves what he's doing”

“”Rex is my one true son” Your dad says with false dispair. “And he's airforce!”

“Dad, Rex is a PJ. That hardly counts as airforce” you point out. “Shit, their pipeline is called 'superman school' for chrissakes”

“Coulda been a recon marine. But no! None of my sons wanted to continue a proud tradition! Your granddaddy was a raider!”

“uh-huh. And grandmomma was a witch. And mom's mom was a WASP. And Mom's Dad was a Pilot. We've got more of a tradition in the air, you know”

“If god wanted man to fly, he'da given us wings!”

“He wanted witches to fly! And he gave them brooms!”

your folks drive you nuts, sometimes.

“I didn't know you had a military tradition like that” Ice says, putting down her burger.

“It stretches back farther than that, but all anyone really seems to care about is the '40s...” your mom says. Your dad grunts. “can ya blame 'em? Hell, that war changed just about everything”

“My family's the same” Ice says. “Dad was a pilot. Mom was a witch.”

“what did you say your last name was?” You mother asks

“Kazanski, ma'am” Ice says, softly

“Oh my god. You're Bill's kid!” Your mom says, her eyes going wide in shock. “I flew with him! I was there when... god!”

“Y...You knew my dad?”

“I flew with him, off the Oriskany. Phantoms, back then.” she shakes her head. “He was a hell of a pilot. Hell of a pilot.”

Well. This conversation has gone to a dark place. That ain't what you need right now. “merlin!” you say, loud enough that it constitutes, to your mind, at least, a topic change. “how's the cake?”

“I...see..” she's gone through three quarters of the thing. And her burger's gone too. She's like a tiny little garbage disposal.

“Good god, Samantha. Where d'ya put it all that?” You ask, awed- your own burger is only half gone.

She doesn't bother to answer, as the rest of the cake disappears.

“well. Hey, how's the burger, Ice?”

“It's good” she says, noncommittally.”You must eat here a lot lieu.... Warhound”

“it's so cool!” your sister squeals at hearing your callsign. “Tabby! Hey! Hey hey hey! Hey, Tabby! What's mine?”

“that's very generous of you!” your mom says. Santa laughs. “ 'mboy Fronk eats here enough that I'm not worried about a meal every now and then, and it's not every day I get to meet his crew or his family!” He says. “I hope everybody enjoyed their food?”

Everybody nods.

“How was the cake, 'mdear?” He asks Merlin, who's wearing a highly satisfied smile. “it was good!” she says- the loudest you've ever heard her talk to a stranger. He chuckles. “The wife makes it. Old recipe. I'll get ya another piece to take home. I'll get one for you too” he says, looking at Ice.

“Hop 19. what do we know?” You ask Merlin as you both walk down the flight line towards your parked 'cat. The ground crew had said something about you pushing the bird too hard, but it's only for five weeks, you know she'll manage. Besides, part of you says. She likes it.

Merlin shrugs. “Multiple aircraft, multiple bogies. From what we've seen? Probably 2 aggressor aircraft, and a pair of witches.” She shrugs again. “Maybe more. And they've been bringing in F-16s too, so we might see those.”

“Awesome” you mutter. “who's our wing?”

“Ice”

“Great! Even fucking better.”

The past weekend notwithstanding, you and Ice's professional relationship is still rather strained. At best. On top of that? She's still just a few points ahead of you. Maddeningly few, truth be told, never more than one or two.

You do a walkaround quickly- other than the data pod loaded on your starboard wing glove pylon, and the two tanks below your engine nacelles, your bird's in a 'clean' configuration- all the better for speed. The logbook still shows an almost flawless aircraft, minor faults, at best, though you note the red ink near the top that's tracking the engine hours left before replacement or a major overhaul- and it's low. Much lower than you originally thought.

“Gunfighter flight, Check” the ground controller intones over your radio as you close the canopy. “Check” you respond, hearing Ice echo the statement.

Great. Ice is your wingmate.

Your takeoff, you hope, was all kinds of spectacular- you plugged in full blowers, climbed to about 500 feet, then held level long enough to roar over the interstate, before climbing out vertically, riding your 'burner plumes like a rocket. Let the family have a show- they've been watching your takeoffs all week.

You join up on Ice before leaving the airspace, climbing to about 20,000 feet and leveling off.

“Ok Ice, you have lead, here. I'm on your left side, a little low. How do you want to play it?”

we'll come in at this altitude, I'm sure Merlin will catch anything that's not on the deck. Just stick with me and cover my ass, will ya? Or do you plan to go off chasing the first thing you see”

[x] Stay with Ice!

“Tally ho” Ice calls, after a second. “Take spacing”

“2” You drift off and climb above her, separating by a few hundred yards and gaining two hundred feet of altitude over her. It's close enough that you can still cover her, but far enough that you have room to react to a changing situation.

“They still don't see us” You say, watching the aggressor flight slip around a mountain.

“I know” Ice says. “High and above, I'll take the lead witch, you get the other one. Once they're gone, we're on easy street”

You start your dive from 24,000 feet, just about. You've got a simulated load of Sidewinders- two of them, which is a standard load for fleet ops- but other than that, you've only got your gun.

Which is fine. You've claimed an awful lot of gun kills.

(1/2)
>>
You start drifting away from Ice as you begin your dive, slowing down enough that you can acquire anything that latches onto Ice as she ends her dive.

That she'll get viper if this works out doesn't bother you. You've already got Merlin tracking the -16s for a sidewinder shot.

Ice comes screaming out of the sun, shifting her M14 to her shoulder and flicking off the safety. “Gotchya bitch” you hear her almost whisper over the radio as she slowly squeezes the trigger.

And the hostile formation below you scatters like a startled flock of birds.

“Shit! They saw us! I'm staying on the leader!” she yells.

They've broken into fighting pairs, with the -16s climbing while the witches are diving- standard tactics is for the birds to loiter up high and chuck missiles, but in this case, they're probably planning to let the witches wear Ice down and come in for the kill- your own tactics, being used against you.

You could preempt them, break off of Ice and engage them before she starts to run down, but that'd leave her alone against the aggressor witches. You can stay with her, but down low that leaves you a target for witches, even if it does mean those -16s can't latch on to Ice.

[] Break and engage those falcons. Fuck those guys
[] You're not leaving your flight lead!

>>
>>20780830
Either way, we're in for some shit. If we pop high, that means Ice is left with no-one to cover her six, and that makes us a Bad Wingman.

If we stay low, the Falcons can chuck missiles at us, and we're a target for missiles.

I'm for staying with Ice.
>>
[x]Break off and engage the falcons.

We're not gonna do much good in a witch fight - they have tighter turning ability and they'll probably get into an old-fashioned dogfight. The jets, however, and perfectly positioned for us to take out their bellies. And if we manage to beat the witches, those jets will kill us anyways.
>>
>>20780830
[X] You're not leaving your flight lead!

If you're the wingman you don't just go wandering off. It's rude as hell. And if those aggressor witches think they have a shot in hell of taking us down they're in for a rude awakening.
>>
>>20780830
[] Break and engage those falcons. Fuck those guys

And let her know we're doing this.
>>
>>20780830

[X] You're not leaving your flight lead!

Even if she is a bitch, we do not leave a (wo)man behind.

Have Merlin parlay with the bogey strikers. We will need her to help us from being complete sitting ducks. We are going to have to get creative with our flying very soon.
>>

I'm not sure we'd be much help against witches in this situation. In any event, we need to take care of the 16s, and we're probably the best suited for it.

They are machines, but we are just doing this electronically I think. No live/dummy rounds, just a very expensive version of laser tag sans lasers (?). I am not really familiar with the flight schools, but even shooting dummy missiles at each other seems like a bad idea. Anyway, I was referring to the other witches striker units. Merlin should be able to "speak" with them.

No splitting the party. That's just asking for a TPK faster.

[x] Break and engage those falcons. Fuck those guys

“Ice! I”m climbing after those 16s! I know this trick, and I'm not going to be much good down here in the mud with you girls!”

“Understood. Just keep 'em off me, and I'll be along to help shortly”

Humor? You can't tell. Maybe she is starting to lighten up. “Ha! Like I'll need it!” you say, kicking the burners on once more and rocketing after the -16s. “Merlin, keep looking. I want viper”

“No sweat. Just let me know when you need me to do my thing”

The 16's are a lighter airframe by a noticeable amount, with a thrust/weight of better than 1.0/1, better than yours. A vertical fight is the last thing you want, here. On paper, they'll out turn you, as well, though you're far faster.

And you've got Merlin. They don't.

However, you're in position behind them, and while they probably know it, they're banking on their superior climb rates to get them away from you.

You, however, entered the climb with plenty of energy, they were reacting from a cruising speed. They probably should have turned away, you think.

Think, hell, you know that's what they should have done.

Maybe they weren't counting on 43,000lbs of F14 to come tear assing out of the sun?

You're able to gain position on the lead aircraft almost immediately, claiming a sidewinder kill.

“Got his wingman! Between our tails! Coming in from high!”

You break hard to the right, Climbing again. Shit that was close. “Keep on him, Merlin. Don't let him get around”

“He's still tracking, he's trying to get around on us!”

You're going to have to work to shake this fucker

[] Bring him in close, hit the breaks. He'll fly right by.
[] Dive! Dive! Get in the mud and call for some help!
[] Break!
[] Over the top! Reverse it on him!

[x] Over the top! Reverse it on him!

“hey Merlin!”

“yeah?”

“You buckled up?”

“oh hell”

You've already got the throttles up to the stops, and your cat's blowers are going full-tilt at this point. By now, You're cracking along at mach, which you're fairly sure makes this one of the first supersonic dogfights you've ever been in, proper. Most of the rest of 'em were subsonic, maybe just barely, but still.

Yanking the stick back into your stomach, your bird jams it's nose skyward, starting a loop. The -16 driver is good, no doubt- instructors here are the best, though, as your initial kill showed, even they can be surprised.

You roll over the top, now completely inverted and gaining separation.

Normally, to counter a -16, you'd switch to zoom and boom tactics- hit and runs, basically. Without missiles that becomes kind of difficult, though. In this case, you're going to have to do this the hard way.

“he's following! Still behind us, dropping back fast!” Merlin shouts, twisted around to look directly behind you.

(1/2)
>>
Then inspiration hits you.

You do some fast mental math. “hey merlin, If I did a split S, how long of a head-to-head shot would we have?”

“Maybe about... 2 seconds? Less? You could extend some more, but I don't think that'd do much...”

2 seconds head to head, worst case is a mutual kill-kill.

Screw it, you've had worse odds. You jam the stick forward, thumbing your fire selector over to guns. As you do, You chop your throttles almost to idle and pop your brakes, slamming forward against the sudden deceleration. You're in a carefully controlled pitch roll, at this point- your tail dropping as your nose comes up and tracks the gun pipper across the -16, who'd broken vertical to avoid running into you.

“splash 2” you breathe, confirming it with range control. “Ice, how ya 'doin?”

“got one” she says. “lost viper.”

[] “great. How do you want to play this?”
[] “On the way”

Dude, just...

Just go. We're having fun.

If you don't want to partake of our fun, that's fine, but stop ruining our fun.

We like what you do not like. Different strokes for different folks. I personally don't like the people who come in and shout HERESY at the slightest sign of /d/ stuff, but I don't tell them "NO STOP HAVING FUN"

If you want to say "NO STOP HAVING FUN STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE", then >>>/v/ is that way.

[x] “great. How do you want to play this?”
“Great. Well, I got both of mine. How do you want to play this?” You say, trying your damnedest to convey a shit-eating grin over the radio.

“See if Merlin can sound her out, and stay up high. If she comes up after you, I can get her, if she jumps me, you've got a good shot”

“no problem.” you say. “Got it, Merlin?”

“Yeah. Nothing on scope. Unless you're interested in civil airliners in track near Las Vegas” She says.

“I'm not, I promise” you say. “no small bogies?”

“nothing bigger than a bird down there. And very few of those”

“can you talk to her strikers?”

“it wouldn't let us know where she is.”

Crap. “Can you... shit, I don't know. Enhance the radar set?”

“I don't think so....” she trails off.

“Alright well... SHIT! ICE! 6! 6 Low! Get out of there!” You yell, seeing the dust plume from a NAP high velocity flight over the desert shooting towards her from behind.

At the same time, you roll inverted and line up. You're not going to get many shots at this.

Ice breaks right in the way only a witch can- like a humming bird. One instant, she's going one way, the next? A different way. It's strictly a low-speed trick, they can't do it at mach. That said, viper's still in position for a good shot.

You've got a better position though.

“Merlin. Guns” you say, struggling to get the pipper on viper. Damn, she's fast.

She jukes left just as you pull the trigger, spoiling your shot in a second. Still, now you've got her cold. “I'm on her, Ice! Heading 120, angels 10, Mach 2! Shit she's fast!” You say, excitement evident in your voice.

“Drag her east! East! I can get a shot!”

[x] Sounds like a plan.

“That's going to be a bitch” you say, trying to line up a shot. “She's in front of ...SHIT”

Viper rolls over and points her weapon- a M16A2, at you, laying it almost straight down her torso. You roll right, spoiling the shot, but you're having to jump all over the sky to avoid the tracking muzzle of that fucking rifle.

“God DAMN it” you curse. “Ice, can you come in on us? I can't fucking drag this bitch anywhere she don't want to go”

“I'm supersonic, ten seconds.”

It's a long, long ten seconds. Merlin's counting in the back, but it seems like hours between each number.

Suddenly, for a second, You see viper look away. It's a short opening, but it's long enough- her shield flares to life off to her right, as your gun pipper crawls across her, head to toe, with your finger firmly on the trigger.

Another shield flares to life as you do, denying you the kill. You snarl a denial of this- this is fucking bullshit games. War does NOT work that way. You made a mistake, girlie, and no matter how good you are, you're going down for it.

Her eyes widen in utter shock for a split second as the shield between you and her shatters like frozen glass- and your instrument package tells an undeniable truth. Viper's dead.

Then you see the smile creep across her face. “good kill, folks. Hell of a fight. Let's go home. Gunfighter, you have lead. Ofnir, form up on them.”
>>
And I'm going to call it a night there, guys. We've got about 45 minutes left in the normal running time, but that's maybe 2 updates, not enough to really do anything. We'll pick back up Next week, around the same time.

I kinda liked starting early, to be honest.
