After talking for some time with Kaliel, you've done little but examine the city, with the odd word to Gehenna every now and then, as he makes preparations for repairing the roads, and setting up a quarry. From a distance, you watched a small group of nervghaul get incredibly upset at a certain ogre, growling and ramming at him, fruitlessly. The keeper stays perfectly still, speaking soothingly, and eventually most of them calm down. The remaining one continues mashing at him, but the ogre takes the nervghaul's horn and speaks sternly, patting it on the head. Sulking, it laid down. Elsewhere, you see Marigold, Kell, and Jelkul kneel near one of the smaller farm plots, channeling life magic. You see strange, red grass start to sprout from the ground- some of the ogrish seeds, no doubt.

"Your majesty." Leon.. Leona, apparently, as she's still female- said, behind you. "The knights of Cerulean are getting anxious, and I believe it's time we... return home."
>>
rolled 1 = 1

We have a few things on our plate right now. I think we need to call a meeting to discuss our options and get everyones input.

The rescue mission:
Apparently a lot of the Hob' are already talking about joining us on our mission. We should ask Aeriel to portal Red' south to find volunteers. I can't think of anyone better for finding the best people for the job.
We need to talk to Leon and our new Orks. Leon and his knights aren't our subjects and the Orks just arrived and might not have signed on for this. We need to ask them if the wish to join us; depending on their answer we may need to find more people.
Talk to Ell and his Waifu about the ship. How is the weapon conversion going? We shouldn't convert all of the cannon to astral fire, we should keep a few conventional weapons too. Ask them about other options for upgrading the ship. See if we can make it grow thicker hull armour. Try inscribing with anti-fire wards.
Maybe we could get some spell crystals and imprint them with the anti-fire wards then issue them to our people. Or we could try and enchant some armour.
Ells' armour; seems its only real weakness is the power supply. We can transfer magic and cast from a distance with our rings, maybe we can integrate a ring with the armour and refuel it as needed.
Relief supplies. Ensure the ship is stocked with plenty food and water barrels. Have Marigold and Fellwind draw up a list of medical supplies and have them acquired.

Most important thing for the success of this mission is finding our target. Portaling to a random spot in the world and spending months searching for the survivors would be bad. If we open the portal in the right spot we could complete the entire mission in a single day.

First roll; scrying with sorcery. If that fails, second roll; scrying with wizardry.
If they both fail then ask Aeriel if he can open 'portal-windows' and just have a look about.
>>
rolled 20 = 20

Gareth:
We need to warn our friends and other rulers of state about him. Tell them what we know about him including a list of known powers and abilities. Also warn them about his anti-magic; normal warding and magical safeguards will not protect against him. Also, ask them to inform us if they hear anything evil spirits possessing people.
Tell our friends about sensing him to the north-east. Ask if one of them can think of anything in that direction he might be after. If someone mentions a temple holding an artefact mguffin in that direction; get there now!
Ask Raz if she can summon Ediolon again. He probably knew Gareth best in life and they might have spoke on the Other Side. We parted ways on fairly good terms, see if he can give us a lead.

Snake-folk:
Ask Quaz about her people. Ask if her kind are talented at spell casting/mind control.
If no. It is most likely a third party trying to stir shit between us. Ask if her people have any enemies/rivals skilled in spell casting/mind control.
If a group or faction is known for spell casting/mind control then our suspect list just got narrowed.
If lots of her people are skilled spell casters and anyone among them could have done it then..... That doesn't really help us. But we'll have to ask to find out.

We can decide what order to do things once we've spoken to everyone but provisionally I would recommend this order:
If we get an immediate lead on Gareth we should follow it while the trail is hot. At best the rescue mission won't be ready to go for a few days.
If we have luck with the scrying we should launch the mission as soon as everything is ready. Every day we delay we risk losing more people. If it's going to take weeks/months with the 'portal-windows' then we can do other things in the mean time.

"Of course, I've kept them long enough. I can return them on the Jormungandr, if would be the fastest and safest way home. Although I had hoped you might stay, Leon."
>>
rolled 80 = 80

Long term project:
A few threads ago a cleaver anon suggested some sort of translocation arch in the vault. Anyone that passes through the arch would be transported directly to a dungeon cell. Aeriel said this was doable; I think we should build on it. Forget playing catch-up with the Elves and their weave towers. This could be the next big thing~ 'magic-stargates'

Translocation arches placed in most major cities routing through New Arcturus, we could become a hub of travel and trade!

We aren't ready to do this yet. We already discussed this yesterday.

"I admit, I was thinking about it..." She responded. "But first, I'm thinking I'll take a vacation in Sirius. Spend some time with my brother. He's been awfully serious lately in the letters, which isn't like him."

Holy fuck those rolls were terrible! Looks like we're using 'portal-windows' or something.

>The knights of Cerulean are getting anxious, and I believe it's time we... return home."
"Of course. I have something I wish to discuss with you. If you still wish to leave after the meeting later then I'll take you all home at once.

It has been an honour having you with us these past weeks. The High Lady will hear word of the courage and skill of you and your man."

yeah. He can barely cast anything, but he's good at solving problems.

>>20823902
He's also the father of Neiriel's child, and does actually have a lot of magical power that he apparently just doesn't know how to use or something.

The armored girl behind you giggled.
"Well, he was the one that tattooed this rune on my palm, before my talent even manifested." She said. "He doesn't have much stamina, but... well, I'm not technically supposed to tell anyone, but he's a *lot* better at magic than he pretends to be. He wants people to underestimate him."
>>
>>20823945

"I can believe he would do that." You say. "But he doesn't have much stamina? I think even you're underestimating him."
"That's just the way he likes it." She said, and giggled again. "And my voice is starting to bother me." She grumbled, finally, before closing her eyes. Her form twisted, and once again she became Leon, male once again.
"Regardless," He said. "I'd best organize things for the knights to go home. And it's quite fine- you don't need to send us on Jormungandr, we can walk." He said, raising a hand.

"No, I should take you. I need to thank Lady Cerulean for loaning you to me."

Hay Gays.

>>
"If that is what you wish, I suppose I can't deny you that." you say. "I do hope to see you again before too long."
"It most certaintly won't be another two years." He said, nodding to you. "Good day, your majesty."
"I hope you have a safe trip." You say, and give him a communication ring.
"Thank you, your majesty."

For a few moments, you watch the workers constructing the Adventurer's Guildhall, Lewin and Treechild helping the construction personally, and you think... of Old Arcturus. The people there, some of them, are still alive. Your father is still alive... but you don't know how long. You close your eyes, bring forth your magic... and scry the castle of Old Arcturus.
>Field too long!
>>
With your sorcery, you peer through the veil between the worlds, staring directly into the blasted, burned, still-burning keep. These halls, you remember running through, hardly a toddler, a small white cat following at your heels. You remember listening to Merlin's rambling on about the nature of magic- something you'd have listened to more, if you'd known. And finally, you remember the last few months in Old Arcturus. Training with the militia, always with a bow and arrows, always with a small, sharp dagger. People eying you as if your power could save them, when you could hardly use it...
All blasted. All destroyed, crumbling, charred ruins.

Sitting in the throne- in your father's throne- was a tall demon, enormous wings spreading from his back, horns and teeth poking out of his mouth, and an enormous, hellflame sword in his hand, and a enormous, gaping scar across his face.
You stare at him, and your skin crawls- this was the beast that your father fought, right as you left Arcturus.
And it stares back at you.
"Spy." It snarls, getting to it's feet. It eyes you for a moment, somehow... peering back through the veil. "Granddaughter."
That's when it throws hellflame at you.

You pull out of the spell, your heart beating rapidly, your magic drained.
Wherever the refugees are... it isn't in Arcturus castle.
>>
>>20824373
>"Granddaughter."
Curious.

I vote that we deny that heritage, just like Ishelda's mother did. Which is to say, violently.

>>
>>20824373
See how Qu'az is doing. Anything to take our mind off that.
>>
>>20824434
Yeah, we need to make sure she's okay with her new job as official brewer.
This also coincidentally brings us closer to actual quality booze, not swamp brew.
>>
>>20824366
We should really warn our allies that there's a mind controlling spirit with a hate boner for Ishelda going around.
>>
After a few minutes sitting down, stunned, you shake your head and rouse yourself to action. You make your way out of the castle, making sure you have Rikar, and you wander down into Triune's Gift, in the populated areas, but you aren't quite sure where Qu'az moved into... and then you see the wagon, emptied of supplies in front of one of the larger ogrish domes. Vaguely, you recognize the building- it's the one Triune hid the treasure, if you recall correctly. You peer in through the doorway, and find Quaz there, with a large array of pipes and glass containers. flicking out her tongue every so often, Quaz quickly put things together, using her tail to move the heavier things.
Suddenly, she slithers up to you, noticing you're there, and gives you a hug with her arms, as opposed to her tail. "Come in, come in." She said, grinning. "I'm working right now. Soon it will be time for waiting."
>>
>>20824537
"Thank you. It seems like your work's going rather well."
>>
>>20824537
"So, how are you feeling, Quaz?"

"So what do you plan to make Quaz? I certainly look forward to the results of your work, whatever it might be."
>>
"Thank you." You say. "It seems like your work's going rather well."
"It is!" She said, grinning again.
"What do you plan to make, Quaz? I certainly look forward to the results of your work, whatever it might be."
"I don't know what I'm going to make." She said. "Plants are weird, so I'm going to see what I can make with them. I need to experiment. I think these might make a good wine." She said, raising a thick vineapple in her hands. "Or a cider. Lizardmen can't drink drinks, did you know?" She asked, eyes wide. "I didn't. But that means that they don't know what these will make, either."
"So, how are you feeling, Quaz?"
She stopped grinning for a moment, and set the vineapple down, turning to you.
"... I feel like I belong." She said, her hood flaring out, as she smiled- not a grin, you notice.
>>
>>20824653
"Lizardmen can't drink...that explains so much about the swamp brew."

"I'm glad that you have found your place here Quaz."
>>
>>20824653
"That's great. I'm glad you came here."
>>
"That's great." You say. "I'm glad you came here, and I'm glad that you have found your place here, Quaz."
"So am I!" She said, grinning again. "Oh, and I made a friend!"
She rummaged in the back, coming back with... Bob, the purple, fuzzy creature Kaliel had made, in her arms.
"He's so cute!" She said, giving him a hug. Bob wiggled his legs, and the strange appendages in his back twitching.
>>
>>20824778
I was wondering what had happened with him.
>>
>>20824778
"Oh, that's Bob. Kaliel made him 2 years ago."

"He has!" She said. "He comes and gets me whenever someone ends up at the door, like when the ogres welcomed me to the neighborhood."
"I do hope you're not planning to eat him." You say, teasingly.
"You don't eat friends. Even fluffy ones." She said, giving Bob another hug. The large rodent-like creature squeaked adorably. "Plus, he doesn't smell tasty."

I can't wait until I have enough money to buy one of those ogre daryeh. Those might be easier, because I don't like using knives. Or cleavers. It's easier when I can just crush them." She said, grinning and flexing her tail.

"Not yet." She said. "I need to set things up, still."
"I'm going to go see someone else, now." You say. She grins, gives you another hug, and sets Bob on your head, where he clings on.
"Okay, have fun!" She said, grinning.
You make your way out of the ogrish dome, Bob still hanging on top of your head- you're not quite sure where to go next.

You pet Bob as you make your way back up the stairs to Sanctuary, quickly gaining entrance through the gates, and you make your way to Zeke, who's still on Jormungandr, for whatever reason, scratching at his paper with a quill- it looks like one of Gehenna's feathers, which strikes you as rather odd.

Okay I'm popping in to say this:

My hypothesis is that Dras'Lea and the Void Queen are different people.

Evidence: The Void Queen uses those weird elementals of nothingness. Dras'Lea hasn't used anything of the sort. Dras'lea uses a golden longsword while the Void Queen has some rusted specter thing.

Dras'lea is also us but different. When we asked her if she was us she said no but that's because she is a different version of us. Note: the Minotaur King said that our mind was exactly like hers.

I'm guessing that Dras'lea is a version of us who had something absolutely horrible happen to her timeline. In order to prevent that from happening, she came to this timeline to set up events that would help us become stronger. She never fell in love with Kaliel because the events that happened recently set off that thread.

I'm shit at explaining stuff but it comes down to this: Dras'lea is us but came back to change the past.

Either that or she's our mother.

"Hmm, sorcery could help with that." Frowning, you stop trying.
"That's unfortunate." You say.

"What if I tied the Elemental into some concept, concepts, names, and emotions can have power I think. So I tie it into the emotion of love, it lasts as long as people are loving each other and it increases the divorce rate of the area its in.

Our Wrath Elementals are born out of our wrath and our magic at that moment. If we have it fuel itself from the emotions in its surroundings maybe we could have it work differently.

"Well, I'll probably just randomly pull it off, one of these days, with how it all goes." You say, taking a deep breath and sitting down. "What sort of charm are you working on now?"

"Now, don't speak." He said, two fireballs hovering in his palms.
He shrugged, and then tore both arms toward you, shooting the bursts of flame at you. Biting your lip, you quickly bring your hands together, focusing on all that Zeke had taught you. Quickly, you weave together a spell with little more than your hands and inner magic, the lattice of the spell locking into reality. The flame spells slam against your impromptu shield spell, and you glance down at the rune again- yes, you'd translated the words of power into somatic components properly. At least this time, you didn't get burned.
"Good job." He said. "And on your third attempt."
He chuckled, and Aeriel made his way up on top of the ship.

"So." He said. "Apparently you need someone who can turn everything into a vocal spell. Zeke can't, because he's an evoker, but I can."
Some time later, after the sun has started to set, you finish your chant, focusing on not moving a single limb, the wisp of light drifting from person to person. Aeriel chuckles.
"You have to have been trained, before this." He said. "Most people don't take to these so well."
"There was Merlin, I think." Marigold said, watching from the tower itself- you didn't notice her until now. "Tried to teach her magic, from what I remember."
"That explains it." Zeke said.

"I was a bit too young, and had my sorcery readily available. So I didn't listen as attentively as I should have."
>>
>>20826030
"I wasn't a good student. I've gotten much better though.

I've got a question, let's say I want to eliminate both verbal and somatic bits from it, could I replace those with flowing magic around my body or using Sorcery?"
>>
>>20826030
"He did, but unfortunately, I didn't take to his lessons too well. I've had much more practice with magic since then, of course."
>>
>>20826030
"I don't think it does. Teaching only works if your student listens."
>>
"I wasn't a good student." You say- without being able to see the results of your hard work, with the weakness of magic in Arcturus, your practice eventually flagged. "I've gotten much better, though."
"You have." Zeke said.
"I've got a question." You say. "Let's say I want to eliminate both verbal and somatic bits from it..."
"You can." Aeriel said. "But it's difficult. Extremely difficult, and takes immense amounts of focus. Even Kaliel can't do it reliably, and she somehow figured out how to use her heartbeat as a somatic component."

"We can try it, though. Sit down, cross your legs, and focus." Zeke said, and you do so. "Do you remember casting your light spell, with all of the components?"
You nod.
"Well, you need to... delude yourself in the idea that you *are* using those components, although you aren't. Magic is born in the mind, and the voice and body are only ways of... focusing it. So if you can focus it without those components, you can use wizardry like it was sorcery."

You take a deep breath, calming yourself, and you memorize the words and motions, until the words of power are at the tip of your tongue, and then you bring forth your magic...

Aeriel shrugged. "Well, when you can do this, Ishelda, we can try to work on spellmaking. It's not the easiest, though."
"Are you guys going to be busy much longer?" Marigold asked.

The more time we waste, the more people die, Ishelda. I know we need to prepare, but... But it doesn't feel like we're preparing."

"We are preparing. That spell is very complicated, but Aeriel can cast it. The problem is that if he does cast it, we'll use up a great deal of energy, which could make it hard to actually rescue anyone. And we don't know where in Arcturus the survivors actually are. Once we're ready, we'll go and rescue everyone."
>>
>>20826406
"Mar, earlier today I scryed home, the castle has been taken. I have no clue where the survivors are.

Arcturus is a big place and just portaling there will leave us in an army of demons, we need to gather our strength and practice our talents, find where the survivors are and then do a quick jump in and out, just getting the survivors out of there."
>>
>>20826406
"I can understand, Mar. The current idea is to find where the people on Arcturus are hiding, opening a portal there, grabbing everybody and returning here. But unless we know where the survivors are, we'll just get people killed fighting the demons."
>>
>>20826470

"Things are moving. Just we have to take slowly as painful as it is.
>>
>>20826406
"I know, Mar. I... I don't even know where they are, though, just that they're not at the castle. I... I did a scrying, and there's an archdemon there. He... He saw me, and attacked the spell I was using. I'll need to find them, first, and I want to be the one to open the portal, but... it may be best to just have Aeriel do it, I guess."

"Then we need to... ask someone who does know." She says. "Or something."
She sighed. "I think I'll... try praying to the scholar. It won't help, but... it'll settle my thoughts." She said quietly. "Thank you for listening to me."
Carefully, she got up and made her way out of your room.

But my father, it'd hurt him more if I tired and then failed to save him, he would rather have me prepare, have me come to his rescue as a queen, not as a panicked girl.

I miss him so much."
>>
"I know, Mar. Believe me, I know. Do you have an idea where one would hide, back home? I never got to leave the castle that often, but maybe you heard something."
"I don't." She said. "You were there longer, and you know... more about the demons than I do. Maybe they could have hidden in the cellars somewhere, or someplace that's underground... or in a forest, somewhere. And everyone needs water. I... I can't think of anything." She said. "Mar, I'm so glad you're here." You say, and give her another hug.
"So am I." She said, and kissed your cheek, before leaving the room.

You sit down on your bed, and close your eyes, bringing forth your sorcery, and you scry, once again- hopefully what you'll see will be much better. This time, however, you seek out Franklin, the knight you saw earlier, from the royal guard.

Your vision clears, and you can clearly see dawn's light, and some forest, blood covering the ground. Your vision blurs again, and you see the knight, on his back, an enormous trident sticking out of him. The archdemon you saw before, not bothering with a humanoid form, was standing there, long curling horns twisting behind his head.
"Where is sorcerer?" He snarled, drooling down at the knight.
The knight spit at the demon. In response, it lifted it's trident, and slammed it back down. The knight gurgled... and then started laughing.
"I'll tell you only this, demon." He gasped for air. "Arcturus will never die."
"Don't care." The demon snarled, and then suddenly, the knight burst into hellflame, screaming. The demon didn't seem to sense your scry, this time, but... but... You *knew* him. You *knew* Franklin.
Keeping the scry active, you start to tear up, as the demon walks away, leaving blood and charred bone left on the ground.

A few powerful emotions well up in you, but you quickly crush them back down. You didn't even have time to try healing the man, before he was little more than ash and bone.

... Bone... Exactly what Raziel uses to make her totems. And you have scried this place twice now- a forest, exactly like what Marigold spoke about, still with green foliage and living animals, as if the demons didn't destroy them.

You pull out of the scry, feeling rather tired, and you crush those emotions again- both your anger and sorrow at Franklin's death, and the impersonal manner in which... that archdemon killed him.

You know where someone who knows is. You just need to get to him, now.

"Very well. Take the Cage in hand." He said, and tore the dark sphere out of his own head, and collapsed. You pick it up- and you see that it seems to be gilded, now, with the material that made up the silver ring.
<Close your eyes, and think of the place you want the other end to be. Focus is integral.>

You kneel in the flowers of Jormungandr, and hold The Cage in both hands, draining power from the ship. The sphere started quivering, and you focused on what you saw in the scry- a snapshot of the dawn light, shining through the trees, blood and bone strewn about the ground.

In front of you, draining your power, a small, arm-sized portal started to open.

You focus harder, crystalizing the image in your mind, in the place you'd never been-
Suddenly, everything seems to blur, and darkness streams from the lines in your arms, twisting into The Cage, and your breath gets heavy, something consuming your magic voraciously.
And suddenly, a burst of light appeared in the portal, and dawn's light stared out at you. In front of you, you see the small pile of bones... so you reach through, and take one.

You hear something roar, and you see an imp charging toward you, screeching-
So you pull your arm back, bone with it.

"Never been better." you say. "Can you go get Raziel for me? Tell her to make a totem out of this."
"Right away." Zeke said, and made his way down the tower. You tried to get up... and collapsed, your body refusing to move properly. You lie there for a moment... and then The Cage vanishes from your hand, Aeriel getting to his feet. He pulled you to yours, and your legs keep trying to collapse on you. Sighing, he picked you up, slinging you onto his back. Feebly, you wrapped your arms around his neck.

>>
>>20827447
Blood magic feeds on both life force and souls. That's why it was super illegal in the kalak homeworld. Murder just makes them dead, but blood magic destroys their very existence.
>>
>>20827498
"I'm not sure entirely sure what they are. Got them after reaching in to the void while closing a portal in the ogre lands on the western continent."
>>
>>20827498
"Good arms.

I'm not sure how those lines work but they are really helpful. They just smooth out the little bumps and problems in my casting."
>>
>>20827498
"They do that, sometimes. Don't ask me how, or why, though. Let's just hope it was the right location."
>>
>>20827496
It drains souls. We don't know the specifics, but presumably it can drain a soul on it's own without lifeforce, and they can get the soul, since they still have most of the body.
Not that it matters right now anyway, since we can't cast anything.
>>
>>20827498
After getting some tea in us,
"The lines on my arms are from when I was trying to close a portal. I disconnected the link between worlds, but then there was still a big hole of nothing on this side leading to the void. Which, apparently, is full of nothing but magic.
Burned my hands right down to the bone. When they finally healed, they were like this. They seem to work as a sort of failsafe for my wizardry, and somehow positively effect my sorcery, though it's still so random I'm not sure how."
>>
>>20827498
"They do that. I don't have a clue how it works and it drains loads of energy but I can't fail a wizardry spell."
>>
"They do that, sometimes." You mumble as he seats you. "I'm not entirely sure what they are. Got them after reaching into the void while closing a portal in the ogre lands, on the western continent."
"... Did it, erm, happen to lead to a realm with minotaurs, perchance?" He asked, somewhat meekly.
>>
>>20827498
"Thanks for carrying me, Aeriel." Hug him as soon as he has made some tea.
>>
>>20827562
"As a matter of fact, it did. Took an artifact to finally close it entirely."
>>
>>20827537
Yeah, let's just presume it works differently to how Azariel explained it because blood magic needing blood is a silly idea.
>>
>>20827562
"Yes, why?"
>>
>>20827562
Chuckle, "Yes, it was that one. I don't blame you."
>>
>>20827562
"Yes, yes it did. If you created it, then I don't blame you."
>>
>>20827562
"Yeah, that's the one.

I was stopping a minotaur invasion and I needed to close a portal. Raw void magic hurts."
>>
>>20827562
"Yes, it was that one. Do you know why she opened it?"
>>
"Yes, it was that one." You chuckle, as he pours you some tea. You take a sip, carefully. "If you created it, then I don't blame you. Do you know why she opened it?"
"No, I don't." He said. "But I did open it, and I asked her why she didn't have me close it again. She responded that it wasn't her problem anymore, and that she got what she wanted."
>>
>>20827624
"She's not a nice person. I don't like her. She hurts people that don't deserve to be hurt.

I'm a good person, right?"
>>
>>20827624
"Any clues as to what that might be?"
>>
"Any clues as to what that might be?"
"I asked her, but she didn't respond at all. She doesn't seem to understand people very well." He responded.
You take another sip, and strength starts to return to your limbs.
"She's not a nice person." You say. "I don't like her- she hurts people that don't deserve to be hurt."
"She may not be nice... but she isn't cruel, either." He said. "Not on purpose. She just... doesn't seem to understand cruelty or kindness."
"I'm a good person, right?" You ask.
"I tried to revive one of your enemies with the blood of children." He said. "However long ago, I still did it, and you've forgiven me. You are a good person, kiddo."
>>
>>20827770
"Thanks. She... She somewhat reminds me of myself, when I first arrived here."
>>
>>20827770
"Do you think we could make her a good person?"
>>
>>20827770
"I ask because I know how easy it'd be to be a bad person.

I can do anything, anything with Sorcery. The only thing that can really stop me is my own sense of being a good person, and I can see that if I could easily have ended up like Dras. I could have decided that I'd been hurt too much before and just cut all of my emotions out. Or that the easiest way to get what I wanted was to just go through people instead of forgiving and negotiating.

It scares me."
>>
"Thanks." You say. "She... She somewhat reminds me of myself, when I first arrived here. Do you think we could make her a good person?"
"Everybody's a good person in their own eyes." He said. "But... I think if she knew what it meant to be a good person, she'd be one."

"Ishelda?" Raziel asked, following Zeke. "You have something for me to turn into a totem, apparently."
Zeke picks up the charred, blackened bone, and handed it to Raz.
"... This is human." She said, after a moment. She took a seat at the table, and started carving. You notice that Aeriel takes an appreciative look at her wings.
>>
>>20827898
"Yes. His name is Franklin, he was a knight of Arcturus. He was slain by an archdemon. I hope his spirit remains still."
>>
>>20827898
"'Choice piece of wing', eh?"
>>
>>20827898
"We got those back from Arcturus. I hope the person they belong to can help us find the remaining survivors."
To Aeriel.
<I would wait with that, she really isn't in the mood for that at the moment. But if you want to get shot down, be my guest.>
>>
>>20827898
"Yes, yes it is.

It was a knight of Arcturus, slain by a demon, I wish to ask him where my Father and the rest of the survivors are so we can rescue them."
>>
>>20827898
>But... I think if she knew what it meant to be a good person, she'd be one.
<Dras'lea! Dras'lea! I wanna teach you about kindness! Pleeeeeease?>
Unfortunately, we probably have other things on our mind at the moment. But another day...
>>
"Choice piece of wing, eh?" You ask, and Aeriel coughs into his own tea.
"What?" Raziel asks, looking up.
"Yes, it was human." you say, changing the subject. "His name was Franklin, a knight of Arcturus, slain by a demon. I wish to ask him where my father and the rest of the survivors are, so we can rescue them."
"Of course." She said, continuing to carve. "Since we only need to use it once or twice, I have the totem as carved as it needs to be. I can summon him now, if you want."
>>
>>20827978
"Please do."
>>
>>20827978
"Let's get Marigold here first."
<Marigold, come up here, we found someone from Arcturus.>
>>
>>20827978
Drain our current cup of tea, pour another, "Yes, please."
>>
>>20827993
Very much seconded.
>>
You take a deep drink of tea, and warmth returns to your limbs.
"Let's get Marigold here first." You say.
"Right." Raziel said. You activate your ring, calling Marigold. After explaining the situation, she rushed straight up.
"... I'm here." She said.

Raziel takes a few steps away, sets down the bone, and starts chanting.
Shimmering into existence, the spectre of Sir Franklin, Knight of Arcturus and member of the royal guard, stood there. His hair was much grayer than you remembered, and his eyes were more sunken, and gaunt.
"...What new trickery is this?" He asked, looking from person to person.
>>
>>20828052
"There's no trickery here Sir Franklin. It's me, Ishelda."
>>
>>20828052
"No trickery, ser. Magic. Don't you recognize me?"
>>
>>20828052
"Hello, my name is Princess Ishelda. I am sorry you died, but I did manage to channel your spirit so that we could talk."
A name he probably knows would help him be more calm.
>>
>>20828052
"Sir Franklin, it's me. Princess Ishelda. Merlin sacrificed his life to send me to another world, remember? I got a necromancer to summon your spirit, the afterlife is the same everywhere."
>>
>>20828052
"No trick. You are dead. However, thanks to my friends here. We were able to bring you here as a sprite."
>>
>>20828052
Stand, shakily most likely, "I'm sorry to disturb your well deserved rest, Sir Franklin. I know it's been two years, but I do hope you recognize your princess."
>>
>>20828052
"Sir Franklin, it's me, Ishelda, now it's Queen Ishelda.

You know that two years ago I was sent to another world, in that time I have built a kingdom, a small one, but it's mine. I found out that my father and others are still alive and I'm planning on ripping a portal open between worlds to rescue them. I did the same with one of your bones so that I could talk to you, find where they were.

I know this is hard to believe, that you think it's another demonic trick but I swear it's true. I'm the same girl who accidentally set the tapestries on fire when I was six, who once stole your helmet and refused to give it back, who stood at dances and glared at any boy who came close enough to ask her to dance and only danced with her father, her magician, and one or two of her guard."
>>
>>20828118
Disregard my previous suggestion.
This is freaking godly good of a suggestion.
>>
"Anyone know what he's saying?" Zeke asked, and you nod.
"No trickery, Ser." You say, your voice shaking as you speak Arcturian for the first time in years. "I'm sorry to disturb your well-deserved rest, Sir Franklin. I know it's been two years, but I do hope you recognize your princess."
"You... have the form of the princess, indeed." He said. "Forgive me for my temerity, but how do I know..."
"I'm the same girl who accidentally set the tapestries on fire when I was six, who once stole your helmet, and refused to give it back, who stood at dances and glared at anyone who came close enough to ask her to dance."
His mouth gaped for a moment... and then he knelt low.
"Your highness." He said. "I still serve, even in death."
>>
>>20828187
Can we hug the spirit? Please?
>>
>>20828187
"Rise, Franklin. I need to know how many still survive in Arcturus, and where they are, so we may retrieve them to New Arcturus."

>>20828206
I like the sentiment, but it's not quite fitting to the situation.
>>
>>20828187
"Thank you, Ser Franklin. Can you please tell me if my Father lives, and if so, where he is?"
>>
rolled 18 = 18

Before asking questions let's make sure the good grandfather isn't scrying on us.
Anti-Scry barrier go!
or if not us, ask someone else to do it.
>>
rolled 95 = 95

>>20828187
Scrying ward, we don't want the Demons to use us for this. If needed ask for magic from another source.

"Rise Ser Franklin, it's good to see you. I thought you were all gone."

Have a few tears drip down our face but keep our composure otherwise.

"Franklin, how many survive in Arcturus, does my Father and Mother live, what are their locations?"
>>
>>20828187
"Rise, ser Franklin. I'm assembling a great army to return to Arcturus, and rescue everyone who still lives. But I cannot find them with my scrying, and I need to know where to open the portal."
>>
>>20828187
"I recently found out that there are still survivors in Arcturus. Merlin gave me his portal spell, and I want to rescue them."
>>
>>20828187
Hug spirit.

It's all been so hard!

But I have a kinGdom now, which is nice.
>>
>>20828257
>does my Mother live
No. She died which meant she stopped killing the demons which meant that the invasion could start in the first place.
>>
>>20828305
Azariel told us that our parents weren't there. Either our Mother is alive, somewhere, her soul was destroyed or something even stranger happened.
>>
"Rise, Ser Franklin." You say. With sudden strength blossomed from... you're not quite sure where, you erect a powerful ward, protecting everyone on the ship from being scried. He stands, noticing the glowing green lines on your hands, glistening with power.
"I need to know how many still live in Arcturus, and where they are, so we may retrieve them to New Arcturus."
"New Arcturus?"
"We... came to this world." Marigold said. "And constructed a kingdom. A place of safety, with allies across the entire known world."
The royal guard bowed to Marigold.
"Lady Marigold." He said, and then he cracked into a smile. "Arcturus will never die, I told that demon. It brings me great heart to see I spoke the truth."
He closed his eyes for a moment, and then opened them.
"Few still live, your highness." He said. "Less than a thousand civilians, women and children, and only three knights. There were me, Ser Jaeden, Dame Glenwell, and your father, King Abel of Arcturus. Now that I am dead... I suppose we only have Jaeden and Glenwell left, to bring meat down into the mines."
>>
>>20828370
Can you show me where the mines are? Any information helps with scrying and portals.

Are you short on any supplies? It might be easier to send things then bring people back.
>>
>>20828360
She's an Arakatoa, who knows what happens to them when they die. Point is she died before we left so it's not going to occur to us to ask if she's alive.
>>
>>20828370
"I am sorry I could not save you."
>>
>>20828370
"I see, we need to move quickly then. You said my father lives, how is he? Is he alright?"
>>
>>20828370
"We were planning to evacuate the remaining population, but were unable to find them. Would you be so kind to guide our attempts?

<Raz, would it be possible to bring him back like we did with Cassiel, at some point in the future?>
>>
>>20828415
That took a lot of power and several close family members. We could probably mount his totem in a body like Aeriel though.
>>
>>20828370
"I'm sorry I could not save you, but perhaps I can save the rest.

Where are these mines, how much longer do we have?

Is my father alright? Is he hurt?"
>>
>>20828415
That might be more than a little problematic. Especially since we nearly killed ourselves over it last time.
>>
"Can you show me where the mines are? Any information helps."
"All of Arcturus currently hides in Grimrock Mines, just north of Rowan duchy."
"... I know that place." Marigold said.
"I'm sorry I could not save you, but perhaps I can save the rest. How much longer do we have?"
"Not long." He responded, immediately. "For the past two years after the fall of the castle, the king has held up a powerful ward with his power, one that he says is eating at his talent... and soon it will be gone, and the demons will smell the life of the people inside. He refuses to say how long he has left."
>>
>>20828485
"Oh my, that means we'll have to act quickly. Thank you, Ser Franklin. Is there anything I should tell them from you?"
>>
>>20828485
"I see. I wondered how you'd held out so long. We'll have to move quickly. Have you learned anything about the demons?"
>>
>>20828485
"I'll be sure to save them. I will bring them home, to our new home. I don't have much time.

Though I suppose father may be slightly miffed after we save him that I'm the Queen and he doesn't get to rule any more."
>>
>>20828485
"What kind of ward is it? Does it block portals? Scrying? Any information you have about would be helpful."
>>
>>20828485
To Raz
"Is there a way to keep him here like Aeriel or is that a special effect of The Orb?"
Assuming she says yes and it doesn't have a ridiculous cost
"Would you like to stay, Sir Franklin, or would you prefer to return to the afterlife?"
>>
>>20828565
I'm against that. He's already server his duty and beyond in a way. Let the man rest.
>>
>>20828608
That's why we'd ask him. Maybe tack on a "I completely understand if you'd prefer to rest."
>>
>>20828565
It's obviously the orb. Could you imagine the world if everyone could just be brought back just like that?
>>
"Oh my, that means we'll have to act quickly." You say. "I'll be sure to save them. I will bring them home, to our new home. I don't have much time."
<Is there a way to keep him here like Aeriel, or is that a special effect of his orb?> You ask Raziel.
<That's... I don't know how she did it, but the orb was made to puppet bodies like that. I couldn't do such a thing- not at my level, at least. Perhaps someday...>
"Thank you, Ser Franklin." You say, turning to him again. "Is there anything I should tell them from you?"
"Just tell the Dame that I love her." He said. "And to Ser Jaeden, 'neener neener, I was right'. The man believed you were lost, or dead, stranded in the wilderness of a world inhospitible to life. And to the king, and to you... if you ever have need of me, I will come from my slumber. I swear it, even past death."
>>
>>20828652
There aren't very many necromancers, and making an entire living body to fit a totem into can't be easy, and is an entire different specialty from necromancy.
>>
>>20828659
Dead serious: "neener neener, got it."
>>
>>20828659
"Of course, I will. You have my word."
>>
>>20828659
"Thank you Sir Franklin. I'll be sure to tell them that."
>>
>>20828659
"Thank you, I'll remember that."

>>20828668
>making an entire living body to fit a totem into can't be easy, and is an entire different specialty from necromancy
They're necromancers, like they wouldn't just take a living person and scoop their brainmeats out.
>>
>>20828659
"It will be done. Now rest my knight, sleep knowing that you have done more than any vow could request of you. May you find peace."

I think we should have tears streaming down our face at this point.
>>
>>20828709
Which doesn't help them stick the bone or whatever in there in a way that makes it work.
It's irrelevant anyways, but that would require necromancy to get the soul, biowhateverthefuckitscalled to make the body, and enchantment to make it stick.
>>
>>20828728
>Which doesn't help them stick the bone or whatever in there in a way that makes it work.
Kal just shoved the orb into the head. It's not hard, once you have a magic orb that's so amazing Aeriel pretended it was an artefact.
>>
"It will be done." You say, and you feel your tears finally start to spill over. "Now, rest, my knight. Sleep knowing that you have done more than any vow could request of you. May you find peace."
He gives you a kindly smile- a smile you recognize, from back when the two of you first met, the way he kept talking inanely on...
And then he gives you a hug.
"I'm dead." He said, finally. "Formality can go suck it. I'm glad you're safe, Ishelda, and you've grown into a beautiful young woman."
>>
>>20828766
It's not hard with that thing, but with a regular totem, it'd require those three specialties. It's unlikely that a regular wizard will be good in all three of those things.
>>
>>20828778
"Goodbye, I'll miss you."
>>
>>20828784
...that's what I'm saying, a regular wizard can't do it. You need to make something like the orb, and that takes somebody like Dras'Lea.
>>
>>20828778
Kiss him on the cheek.

"Fare well."
>>
>>20828778
"I'll save them all, I'm coming back, your hope in me was not misplaced. Your Princess, no your Queen is here and she's going to return home with steel and fire.

I'll make you proud."

Hug him back and him on the forehead.
>>
You kiss him on the cheek, hugging him back.
"Farewell." You whisper, and he nods, and fades into nothingness.
"... We know where they are, now." Marigold said, once again, in common. "Grimrock Mines, not far north from my home. Thank the scholar."
