Right, so, standard apologies for taking so long between threads. I've been in physical therapy every other weekday, and when it's not that kicking my ass, it's being up early for it.

You are Anode, A-class maverick hunter and drillmaster for the Fourth Overland's firing range. You've yet to master any drills, but it's early, yet.

Assisting you is Grach, pending ex-maverick and, apparently, actually a decent guy. At least, you hope so, you killed people for him. As it stands, he makes a pretty good instructor, helping you help a pair of Steel Berets help you. Recursive.

"Watch your posture," your Beret--SteelTO, apparently--warns. "You keep leaning forward."

"It's tough," you admit. "I'm used to just leveling my wrist on someone. Plus, the recoil..."

"Transmitting through different places, yeah. You're pretty heavy, don't worry about it so much. Work on getting the stance right, just don't lock up on me."

You keep practicing--it's good to know how to use a handheld weapon, if it ever comes to needing one--with pointers from Grach and the Berets. Eventually the lot of you are sending shots downrange alongside Seven, who side-eyes your strange gathering occasionally.

You're not sure how long you've been at it when you get tapped on the top of the helmet. "Someone order a beamy deathgun?" Em asks, before craning around to look at your assembled team. "Looks like you're having fun."

"Awesome," you say, handing the training rifle over to SteelTO. "Hit me."

Em slots a data storage unit into the table nearby, and motions for you to tap the weapons recharger. One of the range techs comes over to assist, and before long you find your Lockon Hunter waiting for you. They quickly load it into your new, improved capacity VWES. You trigger the weapon switch and find your busters turn a drab grey/brown--except for the emitter lens, which turns blue.

Interestingly, much like with your new charge capacity, you feel an unfamiliar difference in your systems. A small indicator warms up, presenting a long triangle in some fuzzy corner of your perception. You sense it's at the median--this must be the power setting. You can increase the shot power further, or dial it back to minimize the laser's piercing.

You fire a quick pair of shots downrange. The target sizzles and something inside it shorts out as the lasers sear through. Not even at its highest setting, even. Impressive.

You look at the range tech, who shrugs. You decide if he doesn't mind, you'll try it on the highest setting. You sight and fire again, and a brilliant, piercing beam lances through the target clean, then sears through another behind it before finally meeting its match at the reinforced wall at the back. Em whistles appreciatively. Grach raises an eyebrow.

Well. That's a thing. You have 12 shots of your 16 left--the higher-power attack doubles the energy use. With that out of the way, you scale your laser output down below the midline, sighting the head of the first, sparking target, before you let off another shot.

You're a bit disappointed to find that the ammo expenditure doesn't decrease when you dip below 50% power. Still, the beam lands solidly on that luckless target, leaving a nasty scorch mark and a ring of molten, rapidly-cooling metal, without blowing a hole through it.

Oh yeah, you decide as you recharge. You could get used to this.

"So who's your friend?" Em asks, nodding to Grach.

"Chernyee Grach," he says smoothly, offering a handshake.

"Didn't you get sent to off him?" Seven asks from beside you.

"It was a screw-job, basically. Most of it's probably still under wraps."

Em nods. "Gotcha, gotcha."

"So I take that to mean he's not going to be running any missions?"

"Probably not, no," Grach replies.

"Why?" you ask your little green buddy. "Getting antsy?"

He shrugs. "Eh, maybe a bit. Missions help you shake off a nanite flush faster. Get the blood pumping, so to speak."

"Well, we can swing by and see what's on the boards, if you want. Grach can hold down the fort here, if you don't mind...?"

"Not much else to do but annoy my keeper," he replies with a grin. "Maybe we can get him in on this. Though I don't know if it would be wise to do so without an officer vouching for me."

Speaking of Berets, you look at SteelTO, who doesn't seem to have anywhere to be. "Not to volunteer you, but you know, as a hunter agent you could probably get away with it. If you don't mind, that is."

"Sure," he says casually. "Just as long as you make it an order, so if everything goes pear-shaped the buck isn't passed to me." Hah.

"Yeah, all right. Thanks, SteelTO."

He snaps off a salute. "No problem, sir."

With that, you and Em make tracks for the command room.

>Splashdown Skipjack (B-rank)
Multiple coastal cities have suffered attacks on islands in the Pacific. 6th Marine has traced the activity to the site of a decommissioned research lab, and scans indicated power to the facility. Investigation revealed a sizeable maverick presence underwater, which the Marines have deployed to contain. Meanwhile, the pattern of targets has suggested another attack is imminent. The attacker, Skipjack, is responsible for torpedo attacks on shipyards and civilian liners. He is fast and maneuverable in the water, with considerable strength and a penchant for attacking on the run.
>Tumult Terapin (A-rank)
A close-combat expert, both heavily armed and armored. Analysis suggests specifications on par with a 14th Grapple Company officer. Terapin has been placed stealing multiple heavy transport vehicles, and Recon suggests he is amassing a convoy. His arsenal is diverse, with no two attacks having the same loadout, implying he has the means and supplies to support a variety of weapons platforms.
>Winter Wolfspider (A-rank)
An infiltration specialist--Polar region operatives have been after him for some time. After a failed attempt to access records from a hunter outpost, Wolfspider has been pursued to an arboreal region. Wolfspider's eight limbs are each tipped with a plasma weapon, and he possesses a potent close-combat attack.
>Solstrike Saetos (???, projected A- or S-rank)
Menacing and powerful, this Eagle-type maverick has killed three officers of the 7th Air Cavalry alone. Until now Command has been unable to locate his base of operations, though at the cost of an entire forward Recon team, his location has been placed on a mountain in the Himalayas. Crossreferenced reports indicate a high number of missing persons reports and disappearances in the surrounding area, corroborating. Combat records have shown that he is very cunning, and knows how to play to his strengths. Do not engage by air.
>>
>>20842036
>Other?
Ask Em for his opinion on these guys.
>>
>>20842036
Okay first let me say fuck Skipjack and Solstrike. There is no way in the nine hells that we should go after them, they would both require us to fight someone completely out of our environments of choice. Em is pretty solidly melee, a flying opponent will just tear us apart and neither of us are good in water.

I personally would prefer Tumult, I think us and Em are well suited to take him down and we ought to have access to sources of electricity which we won't have in Winter's forest where he can hit and run us over and over.
>>
>>20842036
If we're bringing Emerald along on this op, then our most viable targets are Tumult Terrapin and Winter Wolfspider. Em might be out of his element both underwater (Skipjack) and against an aerial opponent (Saetos). Em's melee prowess might be best suited against a former 14th Grappler, but he'd also be helpful with clipping a spider's legs.

I'm leaning towards Terapin, just because we're bringing Em along.
>>
>>20842119
>neither of us are good in water.
We may not have underwater mobility, but Anode does have his elictricity, which should be equalizer enough. That's for later, though.
>>
I vote Terrapin. We can test our new laser on him.

You look over the hitlist, frowning. "Em, what do you make of this?"

He glances over the list quickly. "Terapin, I think."

"Don't fancy our odds on Saetos?"

He shakes his head. "Not just that, that one looks like we'd need more than two guys on the ground. If he's as good as they say, we'd need elements to force him down out of his comfort zone. That's a lot of risk and effort without some notice."

"Wolfspider?"

"Maybe," he scratches his chin. "Terapin seems like the steeper threat. We're both As, we should be able to take down just about any of them alone. Won't say it's easy with a partner, but at least our odds will be a little higher, you know?"

"Plus there's this convoy," you note.

"Yeah. Whatever mav need heavy transport for, you can bet it's not good. I dunno, what do you think? I'll follow your lead here."

"Great," Em says as he signs in on the mission. "You punch up the requisition, I'm gonna go kit out." He trots out of the room, as you pull up the troop rosters.

TOTAL REQUISITION: 60 UNITS
NOTE: Vehicle setup suggests they are primed for rapid movement in the event of an attack. Recommend deploying troops ahead of position along prospective routes to make roadblocks. --Lightwave Cristo, 2nd Recon

http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Mega_Man_X_enemies
Add "2" or "3" for their respective games.

Gun Volts might be able to slow the convoys down, but lack the mobility to pursue it.
Crushers were mostly decommissioned, but you might be able to scare up one or two to sabotage the roads. Civilians will still need those, so consider other options, but few will be as effective at slowing the convoy.
Roaders could keep pace with the convoy, but that's about it.
Aclandas would only have a brief firing window, but could entrench at each position and do some damage.
As always, Victoroids are a strong choice, but you only have one available, and if you lose it, someone will probably put you on KP for a million years.
Earth Commanders could keep pace with the convoy for a while and try to sabotage the frontmost vehicles, or divebomb enemy personnel.
Head gunners could launch missiles well in advance of the convoy to chew up the road or take out engines.
Helits are a middle ground between Earth Commanders and Head Gunners--they're better armed than the ECs, but slower.
You could request a few Atareeters from around HQ to chew up the roads.
>>
>>20843070
How much do they cost in terms of Req? How many roads do we have to cover?

There are three potential routes.
Infantry are 1 req apiece.
Gun Volts: 2 req
Crushers: 1 req, only 2 available.
Roaders: 1 req
Aclandas: 2 req, only 4 available.
Victoroid: 2 req, only 1 available.
Earth Commanders: 1 req
Head gunners: 1 req
Helits: 1 req
Atareeters: 1 req, 3 available.
>>
>>20843189

Can we requisition some Ride Chasers?
>>
>>20843189
Okay take two Crushers and two Atareeters, we need them to wipe out the roads. They can sabotage two of the roads and funnel the enemy to the last one.

We'll want some infantry to protect each of them of course, maybe 5 each, and a Gun Volt for each.

Get some Earth Commanders as well to both scout and hit vehicles.

Then a few Head Gunners to spam missiles at the road we've funneled them to and fill the rest with infantry.
>>
>>20843387
You could, in fact.
>>
>>20843462
Requisition costs on Ride Chasers and Armors please.
>>
>>20843479
Ride armors are hard to come by, what with the effort to resupply the 8th. Still, since you've captured 2 ride armors yourself, you could commission them for 10 req apiece.
Ride chasers are a bit easier to deal with, but transport is still difficult. 5 apiece, and you could equip a few of your soldiers with them and make them outriders. Keep in mind their armor is nonexistent, and that the cost would build up quick.
>>
>>20843544
Though risky, we could go 6 Infantry, Em and Anode on Ride Chasers backed up by an even mix of Roadsters (are they Spark or Crash/Rush?) Earth Commanders and Helits.

It will save the roads and allow us to follow the convoy no matter the route they take.
>>
>>20843696
Ack. That should have been asking if the Roadsters are Rush or Crash.
>>
>>20843388
We should try to avoid excessive infrastructure damage. Force them offroad if we can. All we have to do is eat their tires/treads. Are there any blockade pieces we can requisition like concrete barriers and spike strips, or will others be bringing those along?

>>

>>
>>20843696
I agree with this plan.

Would it be possible for out Roaders to poke out the tires if they get close enough, or would we have to suicide them to do that?"
>>
>>20843866
Suicide them.
>>
>>20843899
As long as the convoy gets grounded (moreso than usual, I mean), that'll be a success. Lead the convoy along to a particular point, then blow out the tires and treads.
>>
File: 1348448289437.jpg-(213 KB, 640x480, Wily takes the crew out t(...).jpg)
213 KB
So, if I'm reading >>20843696 correctly, your order list would be:
Ride Chasers x2: 10 Req
Infantry x6: 6 Req,
14 Roaders: 14 Req
14 Earth Commanders: 14 Req
14 Helits: 14 Req

You and Em are officers, you don't count for requisition, so you could take 2 more points of units.
>>
>>20843964
Hoe many tires and treads dose this guy have, though? What sort of vehicles is he pulling out in? Are there any specks for his convoys size? Depending on the answer, it might just be enough to reacquisition a swarm of Roaders, wait in ambush along the rout, and zerg the tires.
>>
>>20844003
That's a good question. What does recent intelligence say this guy is rolling around in?
>>
>>20844072
Vehicles range from captured garbage trucks and flatbeds to superheavy 'landship' style military transports. It's a hodgepodge of tires and treads, cobbled together from dozens of captures.

As for size, six or seven vehicle thefts have been confirmed, but there may be more--and he might have maverick logistic support.
>>
>>20844100
So we can't hope to take down the entire convoy at once. Who knows if he's got eyes in the sky to watch for ambushes? We'll have to slow down the convoy where we can (force them offroad, etc.) and board the convoy, taking things apart piecemeal. We'll need a rapid response loadout like in >>20843999 and try to get the convoy where we want it to go.
>>
>>20844100
Then mu suicide plan is dumb. Should stick with the load out suggested.

Lets throw on our bondage gear and chase them into the sunset, whooping and firing our weapons into the air.

After a moment's consideration, you file away the order. After a moment and a call from Crankshaft ("You want to do what, son?"), it's quickly processed, though he does warn you that those bikes are India's babies, or as he puts it "if you wreck them, she will wreck you." As a last aside he tells you he loves your gumption. So there's that, you guess.

Em files back in, and it occurs to you this is the first time you've seen him fully armed. You count at least seven saber hilts on him--those two small dueling sabers on either shoulder, a small, curved hilt over his right elbow, a massive two-handed one on his back, what looks like a rapier with a hollow bellguard on one hip, and knives on his chestplate and his left boot. He looks like he stepped off a fashion catwalk for overly well-armed commandos.

"Damn, man," you say.

He shrugs. "You go with that works. What'd you pick out?"

"Hope you like riding bikes."

He grins. "Going for the fast approach, huh? I like it. Anything else before we go?"

"Looks like... ... huh, I-95."

"No shit. Yeah, I don't think we'll be driving that."

Em checks a few more details as information comes streaming in on the active hunt. "Well, Recon and Advance snuck a homing beacon into Terapin's motor pool. We could beam a strike force in, but we'd have to link up with our supplies. Or we could go with our bikes in the transports, but that would take a little while."

"That's gonna be a lot of transports," you note.

"Yeah, call it 3 bikes to a bird? Shit, no, 2, gotta include the team and our 'loid backup. We might lose some. I dunno, normally I don't fuss with a team anyway, I like to leave the logistics to Sev. How do you want to do this?"

"Let's keep logistics simple, then. We go in hot, the 'loids and bikes come down when it's clear."

"Sounds like a good time to me. Let's roll."

You relay the plan along, and Crankshaft agrees to lead the flight of transports. Besides, he adds, he wouldn't miss this for the world. He asks for a few minutes' lead time before you beam in. It's that or risk being left behind without your rides.

Em draws one of his dueling sabers, flipping it into the air and catching it. You coordinate your infantry--A Beret you don't recognize and a team of four Lanceteamer Bingos. All attest to prior ride chaser experience. You order them to have a staggered arrival, coming in pairs behind you and Em, with the Beret bringing up the rear. With all that squared, you draw your lance, ready your other buster, and step up onto the pad beside your partner.

"Ready?" Em asks.

You nod with a grin. Em returns the favor and punches the button.

In an instant, you find yourself at the back of a warehouse in a busy compound. The sun is just starting to come up here through the windows, somewhere on the East Coast of the US.

"Hey, what--"

Em snaps his beam saber alight, bringing it to his side. You level your arm cannon on the maverick whose day you just ruined, igniting your lance behind you.

His eyes widen, as he's torn between backing away, pulling a weapon, and shouting for help.

He settles for all three, but he hesitated just a moment too long. He gets as far as "Hu--" before Em pounces him, taking him to the ground as he plants his saber to the hilt in his sternum and slices it out and through his shoulder.

Still, it's enough, as an instant later the alarms begin to sound. Em rises as a half-dozen mavericks step forward, drawing busters and sabers. One even has some kind of heavy powered wrench that he intends to use as a club. You stand back to back as they ring around you, murder and menace written on their features.

>Go.

Let's introduce ourselves to these chumps. Grim as wide as you can and go to town.
>>
>>20845531
There's six of them. We've got two rapid-fire busters. Em is a whirling dervish of mexican-jumping-bean-fuck-you.

Let's keep things simple at first. Action economy: don't do more than you have to. The sooner we get through these goons, the sooner we can get to sabotaging the convoy vehicles. With any luck, we can capture them and have them ship to Armored or Logistics.

Smile like a trickster, lance like a bastard.

You handle the ones with the busters, Em can hit the sword guys. The wrench dude you can share.

Your grin goes to full manic, just as your charge finishes building. You sweep your buster across your side, sending three of the mavericks diving. The third cries out as a sizzling bolt of plasma catches him in the side as he fires, sending his shot wide over your head. The sirens continue to wail as you both launch into an explosive flurry of motion.

Behind you, you can hear the hum of a saber beam zigzagging back and forth, but you don't worry. Em's got your back, and you've got his. You focus instead on the three in front of you. One rushes at you, drawing a saber as he fires his buster wildly, while the other adopts to stay back and try to suppress you. The injured one makes for cover.

You wheel your lance, quickly weaving a phase distortion wall in front of you, fizzling their shots. Before they have time to realize what's happened you've leaned into a dash and skewered the first in a counter-charge. You turn, letting his body ablate the shots his friend chases after you with, and finally snap up your buster around the side and mow him down. The wounded one starts to make a run for the exit, throwing cabinets and furnishings behind him to obstruct your aim.

>He could be getting help, take him down. Em's got this.
>Stay with Em. Better to keep together against superior numbers.

If we could take three guys, Em can. Call out to him about the runner so he knows you're taking off and get after him. Head back after you finish him off, it shouldn't take that long.
>>
>>20845847
If we can shoot him from here, then do so. Don't stray too far from Em, but don't let him get away if you can't help it.
>>
I'd suggest trying to use the Lockon Hunter we just got, with any luck it should be enough to drop it from range. It looks like its got to punch to render those cabinets moot.

"Runner!" You call, sighting him as best you can. You trigger your Lockon Hunter and aim for his retreating back. You catch him right between the shoulder blades with an overpenetrating shot, drilling neatly through debris, a concrete pillar, his back, and out through a door. With that out of the way, you turn to Em.

He's been busy, with one opponent down and another wounded. You see one of the mavericks bring his saber down toward his back in an overhead swing as he fends off the other. Without so much as turning to look, he whirls his blade around behind and deflects it. In the same move he slaps the first's arm aside, and with a roll of the wrist brings the blade back in a circle. Both mavericks crumple, cut down in the same stroke.

"Nice shot," Em says immediately. "We should move."

>Sabotage the vehicles while you can.
>Can't drive 'em if they're dead. Let's thin the ranks.

And I hate to cut it off here, but that's exactly what I have to do. Got to get my ass kicked tomorrow morning.

That said, I'll be up most of the day, meaning I can run for the afternoon and night, then pass out, and maybe continue through the day after if needbe, depending on how fast I can move.

Hope it's been good, I keep falling out of the saddle on these long-ass delays.

Just the tires, gentlemen. We might get some salvage out of this. Sabotage the big, important looking ones first. The ones we won't regret having to blow up.

Tag 'em for salvage, though. We need to give Deploy and Armored gifts, and they're no good if they're completely trashed.

seems reasonable

I've just been listening to some Beastie Boys, so I think it's time for some sabotage.
