The ascent into the atmosphere was nothing for the Varian machine. Brunstault sits there at the higher controls, where Frederick normally sat, and you down below at the support controls. Explaining the workings of the Varian to Brunstault wasn't too difficult since her years and experience with Lunarian tech just took it from there. Closer, every second you draw closer to the moon. A lump rises in your throat.

A strange anxiety takes over, almost telling you to turn back. However, there was NO ONE down there in the Underworld that could help you. Both you and Brunstault were on your own in asking for their help. The things they've done, the years have passed, and the scars that they left behind still remain.

Those who thought they could fix everything. Those who thought that they could grasp tomorrow, a better future with the use of weapons beyond even their own control. Hatred, sorrow, rejection. Those are the emotions that swirl within your heart. "For him." the man, Frederick Mercury Irving who has done so much for the world that he didn't know. Fighting, fighting and he's fighting still. There's no way you can let his life end like this.

The Varian picks up speed. Faster. The machine begins to shake as it draws closer.

"Ah, how much are you going to push this thing?" chimes Brunstault.

"E-enough to break t-through the b-barrier!" the stuttering words fall from your lip. Brunstault shakes her head from side to side, letting out an exaggerated sigh.

"We're going to save the Hero, so what good will that do if we're space debris?"

The machine reaches up, pulling out its sheathed, red blade. "We're going to rip a h-hole into the wall!" the blade glows with a crimson light. Brunstault's signature smile moves across her face. Her fangs show, she licks her lips.

"Don't you think that's a bit much, Gestalt-chan?" Brunstault, even saying your name, sounds like an insult. Either way, you ignore it. It's not worth getting mad over.

The blade rips upward, coming into contact with the barrier. Sparks fly as the tip of the sword digs into the unseen barrier separating Aldria and the Lunarian Colony placed on the moon.

"Looks like it's not even moving. Any other ideas?" Brunstault loses her sarcastic tone. "So do we keep pushing or no?" the fox goddess smiles again.

Pretty sweet roll... whatever the DC for breaking through Asgard-tier shielding with a mecha blade is, this SHOULD leave a dent.
>>
>>20853876
So this Barrier: is it a planetary shield essentially keeping the people on the planet contained within it?
Or is it placed so as to cover the entire Moon?

Also, I thought the Lunarians have spaceships. Why haven't we tried contacting them via radio?

"You think this w-will stop me!?" the blade's crimson glow becomes a powerful inferno. The blade draws back, and comes forward in a single swift motion. It forms a fine arc of red as it slices into the barrier. "HAH!" another slice, this time the opposite direction. A nice X-shaped scar incribes itself upon the Lunarian barrier.

"Ah, this barrier is quite the eyesore!" Brunstault brings the Varian's arm back, then thrusts it forward. Upon impact, the fist easily breaks through the weakened planetary barrier. The broken section, however, quickly tries to repair itself. The Varian breaches through, just in the nick of time as it closes with an audible clack. The machine moves toward the moon, its black wings branched outward.

"So what do you think you're going to say when we arrive, Gestalt?" she dropped the honorifics. Excellent, she was back to normal.

"I d-don't know."

"You don't? Surely you must have considered conversation." she snickers. Even in times of distress, the fox enjoys herself.

>>
>>20854051
What do we have to threaten them with?
The Varian is a powerful vehicle, but the Lunarians have had nearly a thousand years to develop more powerful weaponry.
It could be like trying to threaten someone with a Panzer IV, when they're driving around in a Challenger 2.

Let's go for a neutral option.
"Stay polite. Fixing the world."
>>
>>20854224

I get your point. I was just thinking, either threaten them or grovel on the ground begging for help.

Yes, we should just ask them, and in the case that they don't want to help, we threaten them.
>>
>>20854240
This. Threatening or begging ain't necessary yet.

"There's n-no point in a-antagonizing them." this stutter of yours was certain to stop you from being taken seriously. You sigh, pushing the machine to plow forward and through the darkness of space and toward the moon. As you move closer to the moon, there's nothing going on. No counter attacks, no alarms, no Lunarian forces to greet you. This was really weird. "W-what's going o-on?"

"I suppose they're waiting for us to land." Brunstault speaks up. Thinking back, the Lunarians were researchers and never fighters. They only fought when they had to, or thought they were given reason. "I doubt they'll attack us, though, but if they were given incentive by Frederick's little light show." Brunstault looks back toward Aldria, her eyes slits. "Then we may be in for quite the party."

"I suppose s-so." again with the stuttering.

The Varian stretches its legs out as it lands upon the white surface of the moon. No air on the outside, no nothing. Surely if the two of you were to leave the confines of the cockpit, you'd both die.

"Well this is quite fun." BRunstault says, relaxing in her seat with one leg over the other.

Also, start up the sensors.
We should be receiving radio communications or getting pinged by their sensor net. At the very least we should be reading some EM readings.
Why aren't the Lunarians at least trying to communicate with the Varian's onboard computers?

This just keeps on getting stranger and stranger. No communication. They OBVIOUSLY seen you flying toward the moon in a large machine like the Varian. Either they were ignoring you completely, or didn't see you. The former was much more likely than the latter.

Beep.

"Finally." Brunstault says in a voice of complete disinterest. The voice that comes from the other line is Lunarian.

"Leave." it spoke simply. "Leave."

"Quite the welcome." the fox sighs again.

"Leave." it repeats "Leave."

"Fine, b-but you h-help me first." your voice is clear, despite the small issues. The voice suddenly becomes enraged.

"NEVER RETURN! GO BACK TO THE UNDERWORLD AND SLEEP, CIEL! LEAVE! LEAVE! LEAVE!"

"M-my real name?" your pupils shrink. Your name had been lost in history, even you didn't remember it until recently.

"YOU FAILURE! LEAVE! LEAVE THIS PLACE, LEAVE THIS SACRED GROUND!" the voice continues, not waiting for any response. "YOU DESERVE NOTHING, YOU'VE FAILED US. This... this was waiting just for you, Ciel! Hahahah!" the voice on the other side enters a fit of deranged laughter.

"...W-what?"

"You're the ones w-who failed." you ignore the recording to immediately cancel the transmission.

"Ah, that wasn't a transmission." Brunstault says with a frown. "It came from the Varian itself. I suppose it activated as soon as we stepped foot on the moon. A wonderful farewell present." the fox god wasn't amused at all at the rambling to her friend. "But they're despicable, either way. I wonder, what fate has befell them?"

The Varian moves upon the surface of the moon, scanning for any signs of life. Now, there in the distance is a large dome that's covered in magic sigils. "We've found it." Brunstault says with a frown. "Something is amiss."

You ignore Brunstault, the machine walks forward. Once you're close enough to the dome, you hitch the Varian on a docking terminal. The cockpit opens up, and both you and Brunstault walk forward through the dark hallway.

The only sound you hear is the noise of your feet on metal.

The two of you continue at a moderate pace through the dark halls. There's no noise, it's almost unsettling. The only sign of civilization is this big dome, yet there's no one here. "This is quite strange, is it not?" Brunstault talking catches you off guard. A faint gasp. "Hmm?"

"N-nothing." a deep breath to calm the nerves. "This place i-is rather d-disturbing."

"You can say that ten more times, it wouldn't be any less true than the first."

Metal on metal. It echoes from the distance.

Remain cautious. Nothing can hurt you. The manipulation of dark energy, World Codes, nothing could really harm you. However, the white energy that once helped you against the first battle with Herious was no longer present. Even now, you wonder why that is. "Let's-" you start talking.

"Well that's pleasant." Brunstault raises her hand, creating a blazing ball of fire in her palm. It lights the hallway, and right there on the side of the wall is something entirely sickening.

A woman with a blue, neon face, something like a fish head and insect legs crawling all over he body. Her legs look as thought they're one with the wall, her arms are bound in the same fashion. "CRRrrrghhhhh." it gurgles as it tries to speak. "Saavgghhdmeeauuurrgghh." its speech is even mutated.

"W-what is this thing?"

"Looks like Darkwyrm to me, although if the Lunarians came into contact with it... my my, now I know." the fox giggles as she moves on.

The delusions die down. Senses return as you step away from the strange creature. "W-what w-was that?" you mutter to yourself. Brunstault clasps your hand, drags you further down the dark hallway.

"You must be pretty stupid." Brunstault says, letting go of your hand.

"Because you walk on over to a Remnant and try to be buddy-buddy with it. Do I need more reason?" the fox lightly taps your face.

There's nothing else to do here. Keep going, don't turn back, stay with Brunstault until this is all over. "W-where is e-everyone?"

"I'd imagine they have suffered the same fate. You probably know Lunarians are absolutely defenseless against Darkwyrm. It's rather ironic, but I suppose they deserved it." the fox's hand lies upon her hip as she walks. The corridors become larger, and the entire area comes to life. The same white hallway as before. "So we've reached the medical wing. How convenient."

"S-so w-what do you t-think..." if what Brunstault said was true, then what was the point of coming here? If your theory was right, he was going to die anyway.

Bam. Bam. Bam. The sound of metal on metal. The door nearby starts to pry open. Little by little, it creaks. The metal curves inward to deal with the stress.

"Ah, it seems we have a guest." Brunstault says with a twisted smile.

"... S-seems so."
