Jeanne was panicking. Her hair was frazzled, and she was pacing back and forth, while you examine the letter she'd given you. You give it a glance, trying to decipher the writing, despite the wrinkles and bad quality of the paper. From what you can tell, past the traditional formalities, Manisla created a temporary council, to decide how to establish itself as a province Apparently, the entire province of Manisla has made several decisions- One, to rename themselves to Jupiter Province, as the current name is just some nomenclature given to the land by the hobgoblins. And two.... to nominate Jeanne as the possible High Lord, alongside other nominees. The third, and less significant, they're arranging for trading treaties with Ursae Province, the lizardmen empire, and the hobgoblins.

"Uhm." She said, after you finish the letter. "So. Uhm. What do I do?" She asked, worried.
>>
>>20932104
"Well, do you want to be the High Lady?"
>>
"Well, do you want to be the High Lady?"
"I don't know!" She said, tugging at her hair, and pacing some more. "I don't even really know how to.. rule, or whatever. I'm completely unprepared for this sort of thing, and I haven't told Rikky yet, and I put all the work into joining the guard, and Nahzit would be disappointed in me..."
She shook her head, and stopped pacing.
"But Jupiter Province might need me."
>>
>>20932206
"And because of your feelings, I'd guess you'd make an excellent High Lady. Just make sure you got someone like Gehenna around, at least for starts."

This is an outrage! The Council would make treaties with us if this wasn't a human kingdom!

"There are other nominees. You shouldn't do it because you feel you have to. If you want to guide the people of Jupiter then I think you could do a very good job of it, if you're happy here and want to stay then that's fine too."
>>
"There are other nominees." You say. "You shouldn't do it because you feel you have to. If you want to guide the people of Jupiter, then I think you would make an excellent High Lady. If you're happy here, and want to stay, then that's fine too."
"You're doing a good job of making me feel better, but I'd prefer actual advice, to help me decide one way or the other." She said, frowning. "... What's it like, ruling?"
>>
>>20932269
Fuzzy. And magic.
>>
>>20932269
"Ask Gehenna."
>>
>>20932269
"Er... what's it like being a normal person?"
>>
>>20932269
"It's a bit boring really, but most of it is just making decisions about municipal projects and laws. If you do become the high lady, you should get someone like Gehenna to help with the little details."

"Being a normal person means you work all day for money, and then... spend the time you don't work, spending money. That's, uh, it, I think."
She sighed. "I'm going to talk to Rikky about it to be sure, but... I think I'm going to stay here. I did vow to uphold New Arcturus's laws, and the safety of it's citizens, after all."
>>
>>20932350
"Well, if you do decide to go, I can release you from that vow, since I am the queen, y'know."
>>
"Well, if you do decide to go, I can release you from that vow, since I am the queen, y'know." You say.
She grins, and gives you a hug.
"No, I think I've decided." She said, and the two of you started walking. "But thank you for offering. I'll stick to my vow. But I'm going to go talk to Rikar, just to be sure. Thanks for helping me decide."
>>
>>20932475
"Hmm... you and Kristoph both prefer working to ruling, maybe I should try it some time.
>>
>>20932475
"Well I'll be more than happy to have you here."
>>
"Well, I'll be more than happy to have you here." You say.
"I know." She said, giving you a grin.
"Hmm... you and Kristoph both prefer working to ruling. Maybe I should try it some time."
"Well, it's different. We're not technically working, we're more... adventuring in place. We get to laze about and then fight when we need to. Completely different than being a shipwright, like my da', and like I was, before the hobgoblins spirited me away."
>>
>>20932589
"I see. Adventuring is quite fun."
>>
"I see." You say. "Adventuring is quite fun."
"It is." She said. "Next time you go adventuring, bring me with you. But anyway, I'd best go and speak with Rikar."

She grinned, waved, and turned around the corner of the hallway, and once again, you were alone.

>Wat do?
>>
>>20932750
Let's go find Marigraw.
>>
Sure is slow today. But yeah, I guess let's go find Mawigraw unless there is something else to do.
>>
You make your way upstairs, out of the dungeons, ignoring the noises as Raziel's skeletons work, and you go out to Marigold's garden, which was now completely blooming- Each blade of grass was almost a foot long, now, while the flowers were larger and brighter... but Marigold isn't there.

You look around the castle for her in most of her haunts- the kitchens were devoid, save for the cooks, and her own room was empty. Finally, you look out into the city, and see her... in the nervghaul pen.

You make your way down there, and by the time you arrive, she's holding a small nerv calf in a towel, giggling, while the ogres start taking care of two other calves.
"Ishelda." She says, dipping the corner of a rag into a nearby bucket, before letting the calf suckle on it. "One of the nerfs had a litter!"

Warily, the other nervghaul stare at you, as if you were an intruder... but they don't make an issue of it, luckily.
>>
>>20932928
"That's great! How long does it take them to age?"
>>
Time for d'aww. She said 'litter', so see if there's another calf around we can help with.
>>
"That's great!" You say. "How long does it take them to age?"
"Four years." One of the nearby ogres say, putting one of the bundled calves into your arms. "They can reproduce after twelve seasons."

The nerf in your arms immediately started making a strange noise- somewhere between a bleat, a moo, and a moan, mouth wide. Marigold gave you a rag.
"He's thirsty." She said. You dip the corner into a bucket, just like you saw Marigold do, and let the calf suckle at it. Immediately, the entire calf shifted it's weight, leaning closer and closer to the rag, wriggling it's entire body- For newborns, nervghaul calves were large, and rather heavy, and *incredibly* pudgy.
>>
>>20933131
D'aww
>>
>>20933131
They sound adorable!
>>
You d'aww for a moment, as he wriggles closer to the rag, and started doing that strange bleating again.
"These little guys are out of season, apparently." Marigold said. "The ogres told me they're normally supposed to be born at the start of summer, not halfway through autumn. I'm worried about how they'll deal with the cold, being so young."
>>
>>20933263
"I'd guess that they can deal with it pretty well, since they have so much fat."
>>
>>20933308
Fat AND fur.

"Well I think they'll make it all right. The winters here are pretty mild, but just in case, we can build barns for them."
>>
"I'd guess that they can deal with it pretty well, since they have so much fat." You say.
"Maybe." She said, and poked her calf. It wiggled some more, and she giggled. "Well, the ogres will know what to do. They've bred these things for hundreds of years."

She turned to one of the nearby ogres, who was currently taking care of the third calf.
"Will they be fine?" She asked, worried.
"They will be fine. Most of the time, Nervghaul have four or five calves a litter. Those ones are less..." He poked the belly of the calf in his arms. It bleated. "Less squishy than when there are only three."
"Okay, thank you." She said.
>>
>>20933442
"Have you discovered any more about the change in your talent?"
>>
>>20933442
"It's good to hear that they'll be okay.

Little ones, I would like to formally welcome you to New Arcturus, may you grow strong and fluffy."

<Marigold, I think I screwed everything up with Grayson. He's not talking to me, and not in his usual harrumph way. I performed a ritual to show him his past, because he remembered nothing before we met, and he walked off, not wanting to talk about it afterwards.>
>>
>>20933533
We didn't screw up, he just needs some time. He's just discovered everything he thought was wrong.
>>
"It's good to hear that they'll be okay." You say. "Little ones, I would like to formally welcome you to New Arcturus. May you grow strong and fluffy."
"... It looks like we have our first native New Arcturians." Marigold said, and gave you a brilliant smile.
"Have you discovered any more about the change in your talent?"
"Well, one of the male nervghaul got incredibly angry during the delivery... so I asked him to calm down, and he did." She said. "I can do the same things with plants... sometimes."
>>
>>20933597
"Plants get angry?"
>>
>>20933597
"Like what? When you sleep it looks like the plants want to give you a hug, flowers spring up where you walk, and now you're telling me you can convince the animals to do things, like sing along with whatever you decide to sing.

You sound like some fairy tale princess transplanted into the real world, it's amazing really."
>>
"Plants get angry?"
She giggled again. "No, like... when I'm near, the grass can move on their own... and I can ask it to do things... somehow. Not with words."
"When you sleep it looks like the plants want to give you a hug, flowers spring up where you walk, and now you're telling me you can convince the animals to do things." You say. "You sound like some fairy tale princess transplanted into the real world. It's amazing, really."
She gave you another brilliant smile. "Now I just need to wait for some wicked witch to put me into an enchanted sleep, or stuff me in a tower."
>>
>>20933709
"That wouldn't make for a very exiting story. Witches don't stand a chance against Kristoph."
>>
>>20933709
And on que, Dras'lea appeared out of nowhere!
>>
>>20933709
I have towers, and i can turn into a dragon. I'll arrange for Kristoph to defeat me and free you.
>>
>>20933709
"If that happens, no, when that happens, I'll leave the task of saving you up to some dashing young prince or knight if at all possible. I have quite a lot of work to do and I just can't go around all day rescuing princesses.

So, who do you want to come rescue you? To come riding in, defeat the witch's minions, fight his way to you and wake you with a kiss of true love."
>>
>>20933767
<Dras'lea, come and kidnap my cousin.>
<I'm busy.>
>>
>>20933776
Obviously, it'll be Kristoph.
>>
"That wouldn't make for a very exciting story. Witches don't stand a chance against Kristoph."
"Of course!" She says. "The good guy always wins, remember? It wouldn't be a good fairy tale if he lost, would it?"
You quirk your lips. "I have towers, and I can turn into a dragon. I'll arrange for Kristoph to defeat me and free you."
"That would be a twist, wouldn't it? You, being the evil witch? That's silly." She said. "You're more... the heroic sword-maiden who brings the cavalry and saves the kingdom."
>>
>>20933868
"Awww, I want to laugh maniacally and call you "my pretty"..."
>>
>>20933868
Gasp. "I don't have any cavalry! Would guardsmen riding Nervghauls do?"
>>
>>20933868
"I do like the sound of that.

But I've always wanted to try being a witch, I get to wear a spooky black robe, have a gnarled staff and a really pointy hat."
>>
You gasp. "I don't have any cavalry! Would guardsmen riding Nervghauls do?" You ask.
"... Good enough." She said, with a grin.
"I do like the sound of that." You say. "But I've always wanted to try being a witch. I get to wear a spooky black robe, have a gnarled staff, and a really pointy hat."
"You know..." She said, as the calf in her arms started squeaking and trying to wriggle out of her arms. She set the calf down next to his mother, and he immediately went to sleep. "You could probably talk Zeke into making something like that for you."

You look down at your own calf- and he's simply fallen asleep, snoozing in your arms.
>>
>>20934041
Let's do a show! Raziel can dress up in her evil looking necromancer gear and kidnap you with her skellingtons and then I'll ride in on Kaliel as a dragon and save you!
>>
>>20934041
Put our calf by his mother after we pet it one last time.

"That could work. I wonder where Dras got her robe, it always managing to cover her face would be a real help to looking sufficiently spooky."
>>
>>20934111
God, if someone who had never seen magic visited our court they would just be so mind boggled by the inane shit we use it for.
>>
>>20934041
"That would be a waste, I'd probably only wear it once. Although I could give it to Dras'lea when I'm done with it..."
>>
>>20934139
Like all the Arcturans we just rescued who are used to magic being rare as fuck?
>>
"That would be a waste, I'd probably only wear it once." You say, gently putting the calf down next to his brother- and patting his head, softly. "Although I could give it to Dras'lea when I'm done with it..."
"Dras'lea is a *obviously* the best for the evil witch." Marigold said. "Big black cloak, creepy voice... and that's all I really know about her."

<Erm...> Kaliel said, suddenly coming from your ring. <Grayson's here... and he wants to talk to you. In person, not over the rings. He says it's... important.>
>>
>>20934196
<Tell him I'll be right there then.>
"Sorry Mawrigraw, I need to go and talk with Grayson. In private. It's important.
>>
>>20934196
<It is important. I'll be right there.>
"Sorry, Mar, something important has come up."
Then hurry down there
>>
>>20934196
<I'll be right there.>

"She's a sad figure, she's been hurt, hurt enough that she killed her emotions. She was probably a good person once, now the only thing she has left is her plans.

Take care Marigold, I have something to take care of."
>>
>>20934196
<Tell him I'll be right there.>
"Business calls me once again. Thanks for the chat, Marigold."
>>
>>20934196
<I'm on my way.>

"I have to go Mar. Important talking to be had. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with later."
>>
>>20934196
<I'll be right there.>
"Sorry Marigold, something's come up. See you later."
>>
"Sorry, Mawrigraw." You say. She grins at the name. "I need to go and talk with Grayson. It's important."
"Er, right." She said. "I'll just be here. Or in the gardens, or kitchen... or my room. That's where I usually ever am."

<Tell him I'll be right there, then.> You say.
<I will.> She said.

You make your way into the dungeons again, and follow the noises that Raziel's skeletons were making, and you end up in a large, half-constructed chamber, complete with what looked like five dungeon cells set into the far end, as the skeletons dig and place more brick. Grayson was sitting near the completed part of the room, with Kaliel sitting on a large block of stone next to him.
"You... want me to leave?" Kaliel asked the bear, and Grayson nodded.
On her way out of the room, she took your hand for a moment, and then left.

You sit down on the stone block Kaliel had been using, and look at him.
"Arakoatoa." Grayson says. "...I was... made. By them. We're called... Guardians. Made to... bind, to terrestrial creatures." He said.
>>
>>20934367
"What are you meant to do?"
>>
>>20934367
Wise (wo)men know when to be silent.

I think this is one of those times.
>>
>>20934367
After we let him explain a bit more, and if still applicable;
"You're a guardian angel, who was just pretending to be a dire bear?"
>>
>>20934367
Give him a hug. Rest our head upon his. Stay silent and let him continue if it looks like he'll continue.

"So my mother made you to protect me."
>>
>>20934367
"Made by my mother? She's still alive?"
>>
"Made by my mother?"
"No, made by someone... else. I don't know their name."
"What are you meant to do?" You ask.
"Two things." He said. "Uphold the Arakoatoa's laws- What I have been calling the cycle- and protect the one I was assigned to. Elizabeth. My mind was... damaged, by hellflame, and my form was destroyed. Elizabeth was... unmade, and so my fragmented mind followed the closest thing to her. You."
>>
>>20934546
"So you followed me here, and bound to the bear, once I, we, arrived?" Ruffle his fur atop his head, "So now what?"
>>
>>20934546
"So... were you always a bear? I don't remember my mom having a bear..."
>>
>>20934546
"Well then, you've been doing an admirable job thusfar.
Do you...remember what my mother was like?"
>>
>>20934546
"I see. Who unmade her? That archdemon?"

>>20934584
We don't remember her at all she left soon after we were born.
>>
"So you followed me here, and bound to the bear once I... once we, arrived?" You ask, and ruffle his fur.
He nodded.
"Do you... remember what my mother was like? Who unmade her?"
"The ritual did not tell me." He said. "The ritual told me I was a cat, once upon a time, until it was hit by a carriage, and it told me the story of my creation, and it told me the story of my own... damage."
"So... now what?"
"Kaliel told me a story." He said, huffing and folding his paws underneath his head. "About a made *thing* named Fenrir. How it had no soul."
>>
>>20934638
"I remember him."
>>
>>20934638
"Do you think you'd be sentient if you didn't have a soul?"
>>
>>20934638
"He... worried me, at first. But what did she tell you, then?"
>>
>>20934638
"Grayson, I believe you have a soul. You're just as intelligent, if not more intelligent, as anyone I know. You think for yourself, you have emotions, I have seen you sad, happy, angry, contemplative and everything in between.

Your origin doesn't matter to me, you're my Grayson. Besides, do you think the Arakoatoa would trust the protection of my Mother to something without a soul?"
>>
>>20934638
Laugh, "Grayson, are you seriously suggesting that you have no soul? If that were true, then there would have been nothing left if you when you died as a cat. Instead, something uniquely you followed me here. Something that defies being quantified or even perceived. If that isn't a soul...
You aren't an animal made by a mortal wizard, you were made by the semi-immortal divine masters of the afterlife."
>>
"Grayson, I believe you have a soul." You say.
"I do not have a soul." Grayson responded. "No afterlife for things that are made, only for beings who are born. Ask Raziel."
"Fenrir... worried me, at first." You say. "But what did she tell you, then?"
"That she cried for him." He said, and went silent, as if that was all he needed to say.
>>
>>20934758
Nothing needs saying.
Go hug his head.
>>
>>20934758
"Of course."
>>
>>20934758
"But if you don't have a soul, how did you survive after your corporeal form as the cat was destroyed? If you don't have a soul, Grayson, and yet you think, and feel, and... Live, as any born being would, how is that fair? What kind of cosmic order is that?"

Hug him tight and repeat that it's 'not fair.'
>>
>>20934758
"Grayson, do you think that a little thing like you having a soul or not is going to change my opinion of you? Lots of jerks have souls, they don't mean all that much.

If I ever lose you, and I do not plan on ever losing you, I will cry for a full month if not longer. Maybe I'll even track down whoever runs the underworld and beat them until you're allowed in."

Hug his head as tight as we can.
>>
Rolled 32

>>20934758
Rolling to give Grayson a soul.
>>
>>20934857
Not even with a nat 100.
>>
"But if you don't have a soul, how did you survive after your corporeal form as the cat was destroyed?" You ask, and give him the tightest hug you possibly can. "If you don't have a soul, Grayson, and yet you think, and feel, and... Live, as any born being would, how is that fair? What kind of cosmic order is that?"
"I'm a spell." He responded. "Spells go into the void... but I will live many lives, even after this form is dead."
"Grayson, do you think that a little thing like you having a soul or not is going to change my opinion of you?"
"Not... not anymore. She cried for Fenrir." He said, again.
>>
>>20934940
"Should the time ever come I will cry for you. The only reason I could ever stop crying is because I would know you would be disappointed in me if I spent the rest of my life grieving you instead of getting things done."
>>
>>20934940
"Well, sounds to me like you're ALL soul, pretty much. Even if you keep moving on." Kiss his forehead, "I'd cry for you, too, you know."
>>
>>20934940
"Even if you go back to the void, will you remember, Grayson? I'm not going to forget you, but... Will -you- remember?"

Think it's about time for the weeping.
>>
>>20934940
"Good. You're still Grayson. And I would cry for you."
"What are these laws you have to uphold?"
>>
"Good." You say, hugging him even more tightly. "You're still Grayson. And I would cry for you."
"I know." He responded. "That is my solace."
"What are these laws you have to uphold?"
"I don't remember most of them." He said. "And I have not had to uphold them since I was damaged."
"Even if you go back to the void, will you remember, Grayson? I'm not going to forget you, but... will *you* remember?" You ask, closing your eyes and sniffling.
"Magic." He said. "Has a personality. Whims, and preferences... Where, exactly, do you think those preferences come from?" He asks, and presses his nose against your forehead.
>>
>>20935146
"Hm, maybe the Arakoatoa themselves? Maybe we'll find out some day."
>>
>>20935146
"If I ever lose you, you will never be forgotten. In a thousand years children will still know the story of Grayson, the bear knight. The bravest, kindest, and fiercest knight the world has seen, also the best dancer."
>>
>>20935182
No you dummy, he's saying it comes from created beings who have died like himself.
>>
>>20935219
Then I plainly read the line differently than you. And that's okay.
>>
>>20935248
>Will you remember me when you die?
>Magic has a personality. It comes from the Arakoatoa not dead spells I was just completely changing the subject there lol.
>>
Why are you guys having fun? You need to stop right this instant. I dont see why everybody cant just not have fun.
>>
"If I ever lose you, you will never be forgotten." You say. "In a thousand years, children will still know the story of Grayson, the bear knight. The bravest, Kindest, and fiercest knight the wold has ever seen. Also, the best dancer."
"I don't intend to be unwoven." He said. "Though, I'm not a bear. I'm just your knight. Your Guardian."
>>
>>20935360
"Hmph. You still LOOK like a bear, so that's good enough to be a bear knight."

So, the whole awakened spell thing is why the basic ritual didn't work, right?

Just to actually ask it.
>>
>>20935360
"You look quite bear-y to me.
Uh, if you're a spell, does that mean I need to keep you away from Kristoph?"
>>
>>20935472
He's been fine so far, hasn't he?
>>
"Hmph. You still *look* like a bear, so that's good enough to be a bear knight."
"I could talk Kaliel into changing my shape." Grayson said, and chuckled.
"So, the whole awakened spell thing is why the basic ritual didn't work, right?"
"I think." He responded.
"Uh, if you're a spell, does that mean I need to keep you away from Kristoph?"
"When I am in a form, I should be fine." He said. "There has been no problems before."
He huffed, reared up onto his hind legs, and then snatched you up off of the stone block you're sitting at. He tightened his grip, and hugged you, pulling you into a dimension of infinite fluffiness.
"I care for you." He said, quietly.
>>
>>20935537
Yeah, but I don't think Kristoph's ever projected an antimagic field onto him. If that's dangerous we need to tell him not to do that before he does it.
>>
>>20935539
Muffled: "I care for you too, Grayson."
>>
>>20935539
"I know. You might not say it often, or when you do, it comes in a 'harrumph,' but I know, and I always have. And I care for you, too, Grayson."
>>
>>20935539
"Harrumph.

I care for you too Grayson."
>>
"I know." You say, craning your head upwards to look at him. "You might not say it often, or when you do, it comes in a 'harrumph,' but I know, and I always have. And I care for you, too, Grayson."

He set you down, lowered onto all four legs, and then... harrumphed. His eyes look much, much more watery than they usually do.
>>
>>20935718
harrumph and hug.
>>
Rolled 39

>>20935718
We aren't fluffy enough for this. Become the tiger thing, then hug him.

"Don't worry Grayson, given how many times I've cried into your fur I think you deserve one."

Lay his head down into our lap, wipe his tears away with a handkerchief and pet him until he stops crying.

You close your eyes for a moment, and then your body twists, as you once again become the large, white tiger-like creature. Grayson blinks, and then you hug him, puffing out your fur. You try to say something, and it simply comes out as a yowl... so you settle for harrumphing back at him.

Almost an hour later, Grayson is asleep, his head sitting on your back, as he uses your large feline body as a pillow, when Kaliel walks back in... and blinks.
"Um." She said. "Is everything alright in here?"

I… don't understand.
>>
<We're being fluffy.> You say.
<I see.> She said, and grinned. <Can I join you?>

In response, you close your eyes, and reach forth with your sorcery-

And something... twists, as the void opens just behind your head, and something- your own intuition, perhaps- tells you exactly what to do. You focus, and weave the spell around Kaliel, and her form twists, and swells- and then two, catlike ears poof out of her head, red and brown fur growing over her body, until whiskers poke out of her formerly-human cheeks. She was still humanoid, and the same size... but now she was covered with fur, and with the tails, ears, and claws of the tiger form.

"... You just put me in a chimeric form." She said, and sighed. Walking over to you with unnatural grace, she climbed onto your shoulder, laying back, and giving your forehead a kiss, her tail twitching.

Aww yeah, we got ourselves a catgirl.

"It's a *perfect* chimeric form." She said. "I'm impressed."
<*and* you're fluffy.> You say, and lick her cheek.
"And I'm fluffy." She responded.
<Because I like both your girly form and your fuzzy form. I couldn't decide!>
"What, you don't like my feathery form?" She asked, faking a pout.
>>
>>20936205

<Fur and feathers together doesn't really sound like it would work.>

<I love all of your forms.> You say, the strange rumbling in your breathing kicking up; you're purring, again. <They're all you, which means I love them. and your feathery form is rather cute. Can you purr?>

She curls up on the crook of your neck, kissing a rather sensitive bit behind one of your ears.
"I still don't know how to purr." She said. "I can't control it."

One of grayson's jowls quirk, despite the way his eyeswere closed- and you have a feeling that he's amused.

>>
<I'm sure I can make you purr if I...> You say, as she starts giving you scritches, slowly trailing off as she reaches a point on the back of your head that instantly relaxes you, making you drowsy. <if I... mmmm, right there.>
She increases her insistence on that spot, by your request, and you close your eyes, the rumbling in your chest growing stronger and wilder as you get more and more comfortable...

You come to, drool coming from your mouth, as you're still purring, Kaliel giggling as she scratches your ears. You open up bleary eyes, and give her a peek- she's contentedly petting you, her tongue stuck between her lips, and Grayson is nowhere to be found. You're not quite sure how much time has passed.
>>
>>20936564
"That was mean, I had things to do today."

Payback time. Jump on top of her and start purring. Apply purring bits to lady-bits

>>
<That was mean. I had things to today.> you say, still slightly drowsy. <How long have I been out?>
"Only an hour or so." She said. "You still have time."
<I'll pay you back for this later.> You say, a predatory gleam in your eye. <Where'd Grayson go?>
"Wandered off mumbling about berries. He'll be fine." She said, a strange tone in her voice. You look at her again, and you can easily tell the expression on her face. She's... smug. You change your mind about 'later.'
Quickly, with grace born of sorcery, you slide out from under her, pouncing on top of her, pinning her down, as you stare down at her, the rumbling in your chest continuing. With a many-teethed grin, you quickly decide on what you're going to do.
You're going to make her *purr.*

Asleep in her workshop's new bed, she was asleep, purring softly, her tail still twitching this way and that, as you take up almost all of the rest of the bed- this form is rather large, after all- and you climb down off of her bed, prompting her ear to twitch toward you.

You look this way and that, around her workshop. Not long after you turned into this form, the skeletons finished their job and left. Other than her bed and a chest to hold belongings in, and the cells on the far end of the room, everything was empty, and merely cold stone, and dark. You prowl to the other end of the room and back, utilizing your superb night vision, but there's nothing you missed. With a roll of the shoulders, you close your eyes, and reach for your magic- You're not back to full power, but you're close. Enough for a few rather major spells, even.

<Gonna go for a walk.> You say, quietly, and give her a little nip. She nods, and mumbles something back, and then goes back to sleep.

You make your way out of the room, creeping through your halls, and you see your father simply walking fine, his leg fully healed- but he's still using the cane. When he thinks nobody's looking, he twirls it in his hand, before slamming the end into the floor, and tipping an imaginary hat, before doing a twirl.
Your tail twitches as you creep up behind him... and then you pounce. knocking him over. He rolls onto his back, looking up at you- and pauses.
"... Ishelda?" He asked.

"Meaow!" You respond, and he starts laughing.
<Got it in one.> You say, and climb off of him. He pulls himself to his feet, and lays his cane over his shoulder. <How are you feeling?>
"I'm feeling wonderful." He said, giving you a grin. "I've been able to spend all day today in the sun, people have food, we can rest, we can have light, and heat... My leg is better, too. I've been better, of course, but I'm wonderful."
<I see you like the cane.>
"It's stylish." He responded, with a boyish grin, and twirled it in his hands.
<So, how did you like Kal?>
"Do you want my real opinion?" He asked, and set down the cane, serious again. "I think... she isn't quite sure who she's supposed to be, and she's trying to cling to you as a sort of... identity for herself. But other than that, it's obvious that you two make a splendid couple, and I'll give you two my blessing when it comes time, I suppose."
>>
>>20937126
<So you know how you said Grayson reminded you of my cat? Turns out he is my cat.>
>>
>>20937126
<She's the sort who sometimes needs an anchor to hold onto.

Her magic is wonderful as I'm sure you would agree, it can create life, fix inoperable wounds, and all sorts of wonderful things. But more than most her magic is 'alive', the Kalak call it 'Passion', and she has to keep a firm grip on it.>

>>
>>20937278

>>
>>20937278
>Yeah, they have the broadcast feature, I suppose.

<That is something she's working on, yes. Who she really is, I mean.> You say.
"It is something that everyone needs to do, eventually." He said, leaning up against the wall.
<So, you know how you said Grayson reminded you of my cat?> You ask, vaguely remembering the small white kitten who insisted on following you everywhere. <It turns out he *is* my cat.>
"He followed you through the portal, then, or..." His eyebrows raised. "I'm not quite sure what you mean."
>>
>>20937344
"Let's talk about mother for a bit, shall we?"

"Grayson was a 'guardian' made by the Arakatoa, I think to protect mother. But he was 'destroyed' and couldn't find her. So he was guided to protect me instead. I don't think he remembers much from his past life."

"I've assured him he's my friend now, and he seems happy with that."
>>
>>20937344
<Yeah, he followed me. He's some kind of guardian spirit, created to protect mother. And when she died, he decided I was the next best thing.>
>>
>>20937344
"He's not a bear. Nor was he ever a cat. He's called a Guardian, he was created by my Mother's people, when his form was destroyed and mother gone, he followed me and protected me.

He didn't know until today either, and he remembers nothing else of it."
>>
Can you tell me anything else about mother's past? Did she have a guardian creature? Do you know where she went?

Grayson said she was unmade.
>>
<He's not a bear.> You say. <Nor was he ever a cat. He's called a Guardian... some kind of spirit created by my mother's people, to protect her. When his form was destroyed, and mother gone, he followed and protected me. He didn't know until today either, and he remembers nothing else of it.>
"Come to think about it..." He said, putting his hand on his chin. "I do remember this little annoying bird that followed your mother around. She called it Cyan, or something."
He shrugged.
<Can you tell me anything else about mother's past?> You ask. <Do you know where she went?>
"You know most of it, dove. We met, fighting this bandit, we talked a little, and she did this... ice queen impression, where she was stoic and solemn all the time. Took every ounce of my charm to melt that. Eventually, we stopped adventuring, and I asked her to marry me. After she agreed, I told her I was actually the prince. We married, we had you, and she just said... that she had to go, and left. I don't know where. I'm sorry I don't know more, dove."
>>
>>20937564
<Grayson said he was killed by demonfire, so I guess we know what happened to her in the end.
It's just frustrating, everything I learn about her brings even more questions.>
>>
>>20937564
<I just wish I could have met her. Just once so I could know what it felt like.

So it seems that you're adjusting well to New Arcturus, though I suppose that the amount of magic flying around has to be disconcerting. I mean you rarely ever see your daughter in the same form twice.>
>>
<I just wish I could have met her.> You say. <Just once... so I could know what it felt like.>
You close your eyes, and suddenly he's hugging you.
"She loved you very much, you know." He said. "She never showed her emotions- not when she could help it... but when she saw you, the biggest smile lit up on her face. She said you were the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen."
>>
>>20937814
Hug him back.

<I know, and you were always there for me as a child, you always did the work of two parents even when you were busy being a king.

I suppose it's your fault that I'm not very lady-like, but that suits me. It also explains why it took travelling to another world to find suitors I considered good enough to live up to you.>
>>
>>20937924
>It also explains why it took travelling to another world to find suitors I considered good enough to live up to you
Or maybe we just weren't interested at that age? I'm sure Arcturus had good people too.
>>
<I know.> You say, and rear up onto your hind legs to give him a hug. <You were always there for me as a child, and you always did the work of two parents, even when you were busy being a king. I suppose it's your fault that I'm not very lady-like, but that suits me.>
He started chuckling. "Dove... your mother was less ladylike than you are. Less ladylike than Redglare, even."
He squeezed one of your shoulders reassuringly, and pulled away from the hug.
"Now. Let's go get something to eat, shall we?" He asked, and the two of you made your way to the kitchens. Nobody seems to bat an eye at your form, the pages and cooks bowing to you as they usually did. In a teasing tone, Abel continued. "Would you like a few mice? Maybe a bird?"
"Well..." Kristoph said, struggling to keep from grinning. "Looks like she already had some bird, earlier."

He looked pointedly at Kaliel, human again, who was sitting down and munching on cookies; but her robe was absolutely covered in white fur.
Your fur.
