>>
Seems like a nice idea for a silly campaign. The tone is pretty nonsensical so you can come up with lots of stuff yourself and it doesn't have to make much sense.
>>
RPG players don't have the intellectual capability to deal with Pandora's level of detail. For example, guns have multiple variables that mean that it is often difficult to determine which is better, given several choices. You would have to simplify, with choices like "+1 pistol", or even "+1 gun", so that it is easy for the RPGer to determine which is superior. They can usually do simple counting, and it is rewarding for them to do a trivial analysis to realize that a +2 gun is better than a +1 gun.

With that level of simplification, the setting arguably loses much of its charm, and the removal of RPG players' favorite character choices, such as elf and dwarf, makes the setting seem too bizarre for their limited minds to relate to. An RPGer will get confused and angry when faced with choices like 'gunzerker' or 'siren', even if you make pains to explain these choices in detail.

Well, let's take Borderlands apart and see where the fun lies.

1) Guns. Holy shit guns. So many guns.
The random drop tables would have to be insane. There should probably be some type of system to customize your own, eventually.

2) Turf wars. Most of the conflict comes from this group wanting that group gone. Bandits, Crimson Lance, Crimson Raiders, independent Vault Hunters, the megacorps like Hyperion and Jacobs'. There needs to be a side-taking mechanic.

3) Vehicles. Creating an unlimited supply of vehicles seems to be as simple as putting together some parts that probably won't explode and uploading them into a Catch a Ride. It's a bloody wonder Scooter is the only one that seems to have stake in it.
>>
>>20991852

4) Varied (at least in BL2) and insane enemies.

5) The environment itself which in BL1 was sort of post-apocalyptic Southwest (even though it's a different planet) and changes significantly in BL2.
>>
>>20991852
What's interesting about the guns is that it's a really in depth system in actuality. Every single part of the gun contributes to the stats, from the stock to the barrel to the trigger. And then there are special parts that have their own abilities.

And then there's manufacturer parts, and all that shit. Even the grenades and shields are generated this way.
>>
>>20991905
Yeah. I wonder how much of the loot we can randomly generate before the DM gets fed up with it, though.

Can you imagine rolling a die for each component of each gun that is found?
>>
>>20991852
The tables alone are enough to make me froth at the mouth.

So. Many. Tables.
>>
>>20990709
no, tons of other people on /tg/ and around the world have already incorporated it into their campaigns, of whatever system

its not a horrible or original idea
>>
>>20991920
>>20991924

I wonder what we could do to include lots of tables, but minimize dice rolls and stat searching so the GM (and even the players) don't go insane from the overwhelming amount of random loot.
>>
>>20991920

Well, you can restrict parts by manufacturer, rarity, and gun type. So that right there eliminates some of the rolling.

You could also have a quick and dirty presets catalogue.
>>
>>20990709

Why not just play the game along side the campaign? Keep the level along side the players and just open chest whenever they find one and use that as the loot.

Sirens are linked directly to Pandora. They didn't even exist until people landed on it and did something to wake the first Vault up, as far as I know.

Orks find Pandora. What happens?
>>
>>20992956
>>20993002
It's six known sirens. They're astronomically rare, and I'm not sure they're linked directly to Pandora so much as linked to the Vaults or their creators.

There's a scene at the end of the second game that shows there are vaults scattered all over the galaxy. Nobody knows what makes a Siren, even the Sirens themselves. Unless, of course, they just haven't told us- Lillith said she became one because she reached the ultimate level of hotness (or something to that effect), so it's doubtful they're going to give straight answers anyway.
>>
>>20994003
We find out Tediore was just a front for reselling looted Ork weapons and nothing else changes, aside from some bandits being green now.
>>
>>20991955

>>20994003

>>

>>
>>20994063

>Lilith claims her powers come from her crossing the "Hotness Threshold." "Any woman as good looking as me can do what I do," is her official statement for such inquiry. The other gifted women offer equally useful explanations for their powers.

>>20994288

Whose wildlife have reclaimed it into a deathworld, one layer of lethality concealing another.
>>
>>20994342
And judging from what came out of first Vault, some Chaos dickery involved there too.
>>
>>20991852
Thinking about the guns, could you have a computer program that randomizes the parts, like the game does, with just one click?
So, you ask for a Torgue shotgun, then the computer rolls one up.
So, TL;DR, automatic corrosive shotguns that explode when you reload? There's an app for that
>>
>>20994342

Last DLC of Borderlands 2 // Opening to Borderlands 3, the Necrons have finally begun their awakening cycle and begin awakening.

Scooter immediately demands they Catch-A-Ride.
>>
>>20994370
Shit, considering what comes out the other vault there is definite Chaos dickery. Maybe Khornate influence? Explains all the psychos and general murder hobo-ery
>>
>>20994395

Converting it to 40k I would say it works better as the old ones dicking around and accidentally some super demons that they just locked in some vaults.
>>
>>20994375
Randomization could be done with a set of tables. Its annoying to put together and takes a minute to roll up loots but not actually complicated.

1] manufacturer
2] type of item [limited by manufacturer]
>this includes weapon class, like "semi-auto sniper" and whatnot. They of course have base stats.
3 for weapons] Barrel, stock, body, sight, etc tables. each applies minor changes to the weapon... and there's good and bad. the ultimate stuff has all the best rolls, and vendor trash got mostly trashy parts.
4] specials attributes like the elemental parts or special titles.
>>
>>20994495
Maybe a coloured column system. So a purple gun, regardless of roll, will always be at minimum a certain number, but a white gun has a cap, regardless of high it rolls it can't beat this number
>>
>>20994542
or rather, the value of what you rolled determines its color.

Say you have six different barrels. Worst to best overall, though sometimes you'd rather want the fourth and not the sixth because its more of an elemental effect booster, it would be, say, -1, 0, +1, 2, 3, 4. magazines, only three for this weapon category, at -1, +1, +3? whatever. From there, value gives what color it is.
>>
Here's hoping /tg/s OCD and ADD nature means I can go to sleep and find /tg/s made half a dozen gun tables I could use in a BL homebrew. Because I would love to run a kind of BL game, but I do not have the time to make that many tables.

Dear sweet Vault-Jesus, do I not have enough time for that much random tables.
>>

Well, I don't know how BL2 handles things.
But BL1's pretty straightforward, you just break the lists up into separate tables and add in the generic prefixes and shared parts.
A little legwork would be involved, but WillowTree's got all the specs.
>>
>>20995348
It bothers me to no end that Jakobs doesn't make Rocket Launcher class weapons. Their thing is all power, no frills. How does that not describe an unguided missile? Hell, don't even make it a missile. A recoilless rifle would be just as appropriate. Or, fuck it, this is BORDERLANDS. Make a RAILGUN.

Did they fix sniper rifle projectile speed from the first game? It pissed me off that you got better and better zoom, but your shots moved at the same speed as an assault rifle round.
>>
>>20996025
Different rifle projectiles move at different speeds. A Maliwan nearly floats to its target, but a Jakobs hits like it just came in from atmospheric reentry.

The sniper also has a class ability to increase projectile speed dramatically. Best thing is, it works on rockets and the like too.
>>
>>20996054

Thank goodness. That was my biggest gripe with the first game, because I mained mordecai. Leading shots is fine, but once I got to the highest tier snipers, I had to lead by several meters to get a headshot.

Guys, guys, we must be men of science!:

Use combination dice. In binary, 3 inputs creates 8 outputs. In decimal, 3 inputs creates 1000 outputs. Base 20 with 3 would create 8000 outputs.

Bump that up to 4 dice and you get 160,000 outputs.

That's a lot of guns.

Borderlands is based on Diablo which is based on hacknslash D&D anyway so it's not a stretch at all, and the setting is literally made to be a RPG setting.

The hardest/funnest part would be coming up with a zillion random tables to roll on for loot and a system complex enough for it to actually matter but not overly GURPS level complex.

>>20996077
The Siren of all classes actually had powers to increase bullet velocity. But why bother when you can just spam the best elemental weapon you got? (the level 22 Firehawk still incinerates EVERYTHING at freaking level 40)
>>
The biggest problem I've seen with making games like this is making it feel shooty enough and not just a tedious chore of number crunching
>>
>>20998532
That's the thing, Borderlands can get away with having what amounts to a ridiculous amount of number crunching because you can forget all about it during actual gameplay and focus on shooting things. TRPGs don't work like that, the maths is always there.
>>
>>20995714

It's pretty damn good. The Turret is your friend for keeping enemies off you while you snipe.

Still, I found that a good combination of a few weapons works best for Axon. I had, when I finished the game the first time:

Sniper Rifle
Slag SMG
Shotgun (Automatic, not the '1 shot, then reload' sort)
Rocket Launcher

The launcher is great for saving your ass when you are in Fight for your Life.
>>
Ive actually not yet played it, is it worth it?
>>
>>20998811

not THE SHIT, just shit.

Take any standard rifle of about 2/3 the listed power as that railer, and you will do as much, possibly more, damage than a railer. Chances are its not costing you two rounds per shot either, and its on the dot for accuracy as opposed to a bit under with a tendency to go through enemies without causing any damage [try sniping a goliath with his bucket on using railers; those headshots literally just clip through the guy with no effect].

This is most critical if you're playing Zero: you have Bore: you do NOT need railers to hit some lined up dudes.

Railers are for gunzerking, maybe?

Let's be honest, the BL games are pretty much an unabashed distillation of all the stuff people do in games for fun, there's loot, leveling, skill trees, shootan stuff, vanity items and arbitrary challenges and secret stuff. Also BL2 kinda sorta has a story maybe, which might engage you emotionally. And an over the top sense of humor.

These are also classic elements from a lot of tabletop games. The leap to paper wouldn't exactly be unprecedented, it's just none of use want to do the work on all those tables.

...So many tables.

Greetings, citizens of [/tg/].

I, Handsome Jack, am [excited] to see that you've taken quite an interest in my adventures on [Pandora]. I'm here to make sure that you all can play your own exciting game of [Borderlands] and not have it be a retching pile of garbage like [That homebrew that you hate]!

Okay, enough of that stupid form message. You and I want some Borderlands homebrew and there's a couple ways we can go about it: Adapting a system that we can get at or making something from scratch. I've seen some suggestions for Eclipse Phase and some of those 40k games you people like so much.

We've got a system hack to make and two things to do it in. What do we go with people?

One last thing - [spoilers] You read this in my magnificent voice. [/spoilers]
>>
>>21001019
Can you make our own System and call the base of the system Butt Stallion?
>>
I've run border;lands games using shadowrun. Just give like 15 pink mohawk points and make everyone tougher to kill and it works out pretty well.
>>
>>20996790

How many for 87 Bajillion?
>>
>>21000175
I think the damage is worth it
>>
>>21001039
Butt Stallion, the beautiful diamond horse that she is, would make a terrible basis for any sort of system. All she does is shit out tiny diamonds everywhere and whinny when she wants a carrot.

Eclipse Phase has a lot of things we can co-opt into a game, such as those far-casting things and decently flexible system. 40k games, on the other hand, have all the gun porn and talent trees that would make the game a lot more Borderlands-y
>>
>>21001165
On the other hand 40K is a lot more dangerous than you really want for borderlands
>>
>>21001195
So, take the gun porn, throw in some tiered talents, and work this bad boy out in Eclipse Phase?
>>
>>21001195
You could probably fix that by adding shields.
>>
I would KILL for this.
>>
>>21001195
>Badass hits me
>Shield gone, 2 health left

Borderlands isn't lethal at all...
>>
>>21001235
>Fighting dukino's mom at level 29
>Oneshoted with every attack
>There's nothing to kill for a second wind
>Die like a bitch

I know that feel, bro.
>>
>>21000175
The best part about railers is that the shots can bounce, though.
I killed four loaders with one shot, once. It was beautiful.
Then I got assraped by an RPG loader. What the fuck is up with those things.
>>
So how would reload time and weapon swap speed work in an RPG?

Just massively simplify to something akin to a minor, move, or standard action? Personally I like the DH/Shadowrun round with either one long or two short actions.
>>
>>21001309
Use a time system where each action takes an amount of time, as in Exalted. Each weapon gets an amount of time it takes to reload.
>>
>>21001309
Kinda interjecting, but different weapons should have different prep times. I mean, a rocket launcher arming as fast as a pistol?
>>
>>21001309

Time Units!
>>
>>21001329
Um, yes? Assuming it's already loaded, all you gotta do is flip off the safety.
Wait, what am I thinking. Noone on pandora would use a safety.
>>
>>21001329
I imagine that pistols and maybe SMGs would be drawn as a free action, almost everything else would be a half action, and sniper rifles and rocket launchers would be a full action.

Similarly most guns would reload or fire as a half action, but rockets and snipers could need a full action and some weapon adds or character perks could reduce the time by a step.
>>
>>21001206
Looking at Eclipse Phase, there's several parts to character creations.

You first choose your Origin, which gets you some skill bonuses (around 40 points worth) and some slight disadvantages, if any at all.

Then you've got a Faction, which adds another 40 points worth of skills to a character with very few disadvantages.

You then buy up skills, aptitudes, moxie and all that other fancy stuff with a big mess of creation points and then choose your Morph. Now, the question is, how best to implement Morphs? Sure you only get one, unless you're a freaking mutant or something.

Ideally, you've got several basic forms: Bruisers (big tough morphs), Baseline Humans, Midgets, CL4-TPs, and perhaps a few others, depending.

Let's nail down some Pandoran Origins first.
>>
>>21001120
Do exactly that but with level scaling and special weapons.
>>
>>21001206
I still think the DH advancement system is going to be a lot easier to mod than Eclipse Phase.

Eclipse Phase isn't bad, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for this project. Half the systems in the game don't have a lot to do with Borderlands, and half the systems you want for Borderlands would need to be added whole cloth into it.
>>
>>21001329
Dark Heresy and friends add to this the idea that weapons have different rates of fire, with single shot, semi-, and full auto. Dahl weapons, when using the sights would give a weapon a semi-automatic fire rating. Even if it's a single shot weapon like a rocket launcher or a sniper rifle. Fucking crazy right there.

The draw speed idea works, really.
>>
>>21001230
Specifically, there are two major ways I can see this working.

You could add shields on top of the Wounds + Crit Damage system. A character takes damage to their shields, then to wounds, then takes crit damage. Characters would be very tanky, but if they take crit damage it sucks just as much as it does in DH.

OR you could rework things so that wounds are your character's shield, and crit damage represents taking actual HP damage. In this case you'd probably make crit damage a little bit less bad, since characters will be taking a lot more of it.

Either way characters will be regenerating shield or wounds, which already gives them a big leg up in survivability compared to regular DH.
>>
>>21001412
Shadowrun is very similar, except somehow with even more categories. Single shot is once per turn, semi is once per action, and then there's burst fire, full auto, and even hyper velocity weapons. There's also recoil mods that effect your accuracy if you're taking more than one shot.

Since the turn structure in the two games is pretty similar it wouldn't be hard to port the additional SR weapon stats into a DH game either.
>>
>>20994003

As much as I love Eclipse Phase, yeah, I'd just go from which ever version of the 40K RPGs flows best. I mean, if we want to be all billy-badass, pull character generation from a game like Rogue Trader or Deathwatch, where characters are hardier from the start. The system's existing rules for things like rates of fire, reload and draw actions already work pretty well.

Shields are just an extra ablative layer of wounds. Shield would also have a recharge delay, and probably a recharge rate. Lower delay, less rounds without taking a hit before the shield starts recharging, rate is how many shield points it recovers each round.

DH/RT/DW/BC already have quite a pedigree of tables. And you guys know DH's critical damage system fits perfectly with Borderlands.
>>
>>21000008
Go back to Cracked faggot
>>
>>20999079
Except Borderlands has a great cover mechanic, as in there are things that provide cover and you have a crouch button if that thing is low.
But if you want to get out of cover you need to press uncrouch or move around the corner. So I actually have proper control over me being in cover and I don't have to worry about the auto-cover system deciding to be retarded at the worst possible moment.

Now as for Borderlands being the "best" shooter, that's kinda a bad question. The best 'realistic' military shooter? The best competative shooter? The best tactical shooter?
I'd say no to all three.
The best, crazy action co-op shooter? It's certainly in contention.

Random generation progression would probably go Brand > Body (Deciding the actual gun type) > Magazine > Barrel > Grip > Stock > Scope (Okay, actually those last 5 are probably interchangeable and I don't remember what all the parts are). Then randomly roll a name based on brand.

Alright, so, assuming we work from BL2's brand list, we have Bandit, Dahl, Tediore, Torgue, Maliwan, Jakobs, Vladof and Hyperion which makes 8 choices. Not ideal for rolling d10s.
>>
>>21001874
Then throw S&S and Atlas on the pile as well. Just because they're dead companies doesn't mean their product won't still be on the markets in some form, or in the hands of bandits.
>>
>>21001874
this is actually kinda how it works it the actual game.

Not sure how they changed it in 2, but in 1 you're gone had 5 parts, each with 5 possible results which each added a modifier to the base stats of the gun type of that level.
The name was generated by based upon the parts , with an order of priority for naming.

Legendary/unique equipment was in addition to this. Most legendaries added a special part with unique abilities, and might also define some other parts of the gun.
>>
>>21001918

Atlas is alright (Though I don't know what their specialty would be besides "Our guns are better") but S&S is kind of redundant since their shtick was HEUG magazines, which Bandit made guns do now.
>>
>>21001935
Atlas guns could just be a higher level Tediore, in terms of being generic, cheap and good. Considering the company is defunct by BL2, and the last Crimson Lance deployment was on Pandora, I imagine Atlas guns have flooded the market from the ruins of Knox's armoury
>>
>>21001935
speaking of, does anyone know how the brand effects were added in 1.
In 2 I assume they are added on top of whatever other effect there are, but I was never sure if in 1 they were an additional effect on top of the 5 parts, or they had an effect on which of the five parts were more likely to come up
>>
>>21002002
I think it was the game selected a type of weapon, then checked which manufacturers could make those weapons, then rolled for a company

Well according to the BL wiki, the Grip was the piece that signified the manufacturer, but didn't tend to grant other bonuses.

Unique features and elemental damage came form the "Accessory" which was an optional piece.

Pic is all the gun parts which are generated, labelled.

Also, the original weapon brands were like this:

Atlas - Above-average balanced attributes.
Dahl - High recoil reduction.
Eridians - Energy-based alien weapons, with no reload, only a recharge time (giving them infinite ammo).
Hyperion - Highest accuracy, good recoil reduction, marginally increased damage.
Jakobs - Highest damage, lowest rate of fire, heavy recoil, non-elemental.
Maliwan - Elemental weapons only, highest tech.
S&S Munitions - Highest magazine capacity, high tech.
Tediore - Fastest reload speed, mediocre overall stats, ammo regeneration.
Torgue - High damage, decreased accuracy and heavy recoil.
Vladof - Highest rate of fire.
Gearbox - Balanced attributes, acquirable only through certain missions.
>>
>>21001760
Only War, Black Crusade, and Deathwatch would be a sound base for this. Being 'Billy Badass' is kind of the thing for Borderlands, really. I think I may have a set up based on Black Crusade hidden away on my hard drive.
>>
>>21002085
You forgot Bandit.
>>
>>21002098
Those are from BL2 and replace S&S Munitions (huge magazines)
>>
>>21002098

Nah, that was a list I pulled of the BL wiki, describing the manufacturer trends in the first game, note the presence of S&S and Atlas and Eridian weapons.

Personally, I prefer how strictly codified the manufacturer qualities are in BL2. I'd copy those over, but the BL wiki put them in a table, and I'm lazy and don't feel fixing it.
>>
>>21002085
fuck I wish Hyperion weapons still worked like that.
The "accuracy increases with firing" thing is so weird. It's not that bad with SMGs, but it feels like I have to relearn how to shoot those everytime I switch to and from a hyperion weapons.

And Sniper Rifles. I sell every hyperion sniper rifle without even looking at the stats. Because they are never worth it.
>>
>>21002121
And?
>>21002150
Ah, understandable. I thought you were trying to gather all manufacturers from both games. If you were actually going to do this, I would highly advise using BL2 manufacturers, as they have a lot more character to them.
>>
>>21002150
Bandit: Big magazines
Dahl: Burst fire when aiming down sights
Hyperion: Accurate, gets more accurate as you fire
Jakobs: Semi-auto old west style, most damage per buet
Maliwan: Elemental effects, futuristic style
Tediore: Mediocre quality, fucking explode when you throw them
Torgue: Every gun shoots gyrojets instead of bullets, causing explosions
Vladof: Rate of fire rate of fire rate of fire rate of fire. Soviet Russian capitalists.

>dem spinny disc-magazines(? pls don't kill me /k/) on Maliwan SMGs
Maliwan is my fucking favorite company
>>
>>21002232
Maliwan guns shoot bullets made of acid, fire, and electricity. /k/ arguments are invalid.

What I find hilariously unrealistic is that all shotguns use the same ammo, but the gun determines how many projectiles are fired. Somehow the gun magically alters how many pellets are inside each round.
>>
Also, according to the wiki, all BL2 manufacturers make pistols in some form now. The rest break down like this;

Assault Rifles (Dahl, Bandit, Jakobs, Torgue, Vladof)
Launchers (Bandit, Maliwan, Tediore, Torgue, Vladof)
Shotguns (Bandit, Hyperion, Jakobs, Tediore, Torgue)
SMGs (Dahl, Bandit, Hyperion, Maliwan, Tediore)
Sniper Rifles (Dahl, Hyperion, Jakobs, Maliwan, Vladof)
>>
>>21002293

Oh yeah? Think about Torgue for a second. Uses the same ammo pool, but magically becomes gryojets when they leave the Torgue gun.
>>
>>21002232
I love how Maliwan SMG mags are like battery covers. You slid them into the guns frame, and there is zero indication where you put the bullets
>>21002196
Dahl also have fast reloads, due to seemingly Magpul designed mags
>>
>>21002307
I think its do with the digistruction system. So you buy 30 rounds of ammo, which is digistructed into the appropriate type by the gun itself
>>
>>21002196

I found a Dahl sniper rifle called the Pacifying Pitchfork (flavor text: Mainstream'd) that shoots four fire shots in a horizontal plane . Combined with the burst fire, everybody's gettin' flamed.
>>
>>21002315
And you have to crank them into place. I love it.
>>
So if it is the Black Crusade system, how would the "action skills" scale with level? And how would Gunzerking interact with the existing dual-wield talents? Should the existing talents just be removed, on the grounds that only those trained in the art of Gunzerking are badass enough to dual-wield Pandoran guns?
>>
>>21002307
very true, It's just the shotgun thing that tickles me for some reason.

>>21002333
>digistruction
the most magical magic thing about the Borderlands universe.
Yes, even more magical than the Sirens. Though its close.
>>
>>21002307
I'd handwave it as ammo being digistructed to match the weapon being used. The stuff you pick up is a baseline component form that the digistruct module can then manipulate to match the currently equipped gun.

>>21002337
Have you used a Conference Call shotgun? The pellets fire more pellets out to the side while in flight. "Let's just ping everyone all at once" indeed.
>>
>>21002232

There's also those ridiculous revolver cylinder magazines on Jakobs rifles.
>>
>>21002372
I always thought it was really cool how you could actually see your digistruction backpack in-game and its little more than a glowing blue band of TECHNOLOGY. For example, Brick wears his slung around his waist on his belt.
>>
>>21002337
personally I don't like Dahl snipers as they eat through my ammo too fast. One shot one kill motherfuckers.

I typically run with a corrosive Maliwan and a Jakobs or Vladof if I can.
>>
>>21002383
Or how about the fact that shotgun ammo becomes fucking mortar fire or wavy energy stuff depending on which gun you use.
>>
>>21002363
Action skills don't. Your character archetype unlocks his or her action skill at level 5, and it says the same until level 50. The perks you buy along the way and the damage scaling up keeps it useful.
Gunzerkers can duel wield anything for a short period of time. Anything, ever. Others can dual wield pistols, maybe SMGs, but get rid of the talents that remove the downside
>>
You think Borderlands would have Cryo Ammo, but no?!

Damnit I want bandit-sicles!
>>
>>21002363
I'd say that dual-wielding would function in a manner normal to Black Crusade, but Gunzerking would remove the limiters on the -size- of weapons you can dual-wield.

Gunzerking is rage-fueled Monkey Grip.

>>21002384
That would actually result in more powerful shots than a magazine-fed weapon, as the blast has nothing soft to push back against and carries a better portion of its force along with the bullet. Less powerful than bolt-action, though.

>the most magical magic thing about the Borderlands universe.

The people in the Borderlands universe have access to some kind of hyper-science Post-scarcity technology that allows digistruction.

They use it to make better guns.

I'm so glad we got the amazing silliness and ridiculous weapons rather than old Borderlands.
>>
>>21002473
>>21002372
Dont forget they have access to immortality generators and instead use it to prolong wars. So that people can buy more guns. So that they can go to war and die. So that they can be revived and buy newer, better guns again.

Borderlands is capitalism gone ridiculous.
>>
>>21002450
>>21002427

I think Winter Psychos can breath ice at you. Seems kind of unfair the player can take that kind of damage but can't deal it. Don't get me wrong, I love Slag and all, but Cryo would have been a welcome addition too.

Especially since we can't Daze anymore.
>>
>>21002428
I picked up about eight different 'classes' for characters:
The Soldier, who's all about being good at shooting things
The Zerker, who gets mad and wrecks some shit
The Sneak, who functions as the stealthy guy and gets assassin-y kills
The Siren, whom you all know and love.
The Medic, who totally has a med school degree.
The Face, who's the leader-y kinda guy.
The Engineer, who has all the cool techy stuff
And Finally the Driver. They are good with vehicles of all shapes and sizes.

>That would actually result in more powerful shots than a magazine-fed weapon, as the blast has nothing soft to push back against and carries a better portion of its force along with the bullet. Less powerful than bolt-action, though.

I mean the weird dual cylinder system they have. On some at least there's a big revolving wheel below the gun that looks like a bicycle wheel, and then a revolver magazine within the frame proper.

>>21002500

Seems like a fair career distribution given the 9 classes available over both games.

We're obviously going to have to do something about Sirens, who are limited to 6 at any given time, and apparently each have a unique Phase- ability. Luckily the do still have plenty in common, like the Phoenix motif.
>>
>>21002533
Same here. And then theres the one where they ask you to think of dying as fun, and war profiteering as war...fun!
>>

>>21002524
The system was sort of started after Borderlands 1 finished up. Sort of went with a personal canon that opening the vault caused the creation of more Sirens in the universe, so you could have possibly than just Maya, Lilith, and that third one that Jack knows about.

I want them to at least make opposite versions of all the elements. Introduce a binary function or something.

Fire <-> Cryo
This has been done over and over. Shouldn't have to explain the benefits.

Shock <-> Magnetic
Yank people around. We already have Singularity grenades that do this. Gimme guns with the property.

Corrosive <-> Constructive
Create adhesive, viscous nanogoo as a physics object that hardens after a few seconds. Lay some literal cover, or smother enemies.

Explosive <-> Entropic
Equally effective against all enemy types, like Explosive, but affects as a strong Damage-over-Time effect.

Slag <-> Eridium
Instantly makes weapon E-Tech. Overall superior in every way, but sometimes an enemy will mutate on death into something prohibitively dangerous according to the wielding player's level.

hell yeah. Now I'm picturing an orange concussive sniper that does the old worms "Nooo!" when you shoot someone off the edge of something or the "Bye bye" when you kill someone with a crit
>>
>>21002500

So, we all cool with this list, because I'm cool with this list. And given that I'm playing BL2 in between posting in the thread, you guys can see why I'm excited about this.

Other than careers, and maybe some origin/fluff stuff (Like why you're a vault hunter, and so on, for little flavor differences even between classes, like character options in DH/RT/DW) the first question we probably'd have to ask, unless we're just going to skip to guns would be generating characteristics.

Looking at Black Crusade (since that's the latest one I have) humans are 2d10+25, and [chaos] space marines are 2d10+30.
>>
>>21002981

Unique Concussive launcher with the red text "I will knock you all down!".
>>
>>21003034
which would totally have a slow-ish, arcing rocket that is blatently too big
>>
>>21003023
Black Crusade has a generation system that adds in passions, or something like that. I believe it was a good way say why character's are out hunting for the vault instead of living it up on world that doesn't way to kill them at every turn.
>>
>>21003085
Hey, Jack? I know this is a little off topic, but why didn't you just use a new-u station when the vault hunters killed you?
>>
>>21003110
Alternatively, why didn't he turn the stations off for the vault hunters?
>>
>>21003133
Actually, I get the feeling Angel was behind that one
>>
>>21003110

What do you think NG+ was?

>>21003085

Yeah, BC looks like it's tables are pretty good. Characters get a Pride (Like a virtue or other thing the character feels they excel at), Disgrace (A Vice) and a Motivation (Why you work for Chaos). These could probably be directly ported over to a Borderlands game with only minor edits, or a similar set of tables used.
>>
>>21003110
Because, singling out four people out how ever many people there are in six whole galaxies is pretty tough. For the IT department guys, anyway. Do not know why I pay them. And Angel decided to stop listening to me after the Sanctuary debacle.
>>
>>21003190
So why not just turn off the New-u's for Pandora? I mean, all they do is make sure the bandits never stop coming back...
>>
>>21003220

Money, dear boy.
>>
>>21003248
And then every question in the universe was answered.

Even evolution and the one ending in 42.
>>
Siren seems a bit sue-ish, so why not have a class that excels in the elements?
>>
>>21003411
what, like chemist or scientist?

>play scientist, be just as crazy as Tannis.
Aww yeah
>>
>>21003437
or better yet, throw around vials of unstable elemental concoctions.
Anyone rember fighting Dr N Brio or whatever he was called from Crash Bandicoot?

Actually, given his sudden monster form, I imagine he would be more appropriate than I initially thought
>>
>>21003411
there are only 6(think it was 6) sirens at a given time in the universe.

Jack said it when he said he knew about 3 of them the siren from the first game and the 2nd of this game and then the 3rd one.
>>
>>21003411

Well, a lot of Siren abilities that do elemental stuff don't necessarily make sense without the Siren handwave (Your punches now do Fire damage. For some reason.) so you might as well just make it a Siren.

I mean, it's a Borderlands homebrew. Somebody is going to want to play the Siren, it is a thing from the game. Might as well model it mechanically and properly so its balanced against everybody, and just deal with the fact that only one person gets to play the Siren, or we're hand-waving there being more Sirens. I mean, playing the game, Sirens aren't really more outlandish than any other player class.
>>
>>21003507
Maybe Sirens from the two games are like Alpha level psykers? The absolute apex of whats possible. I mean, Commander Steele had the Siren tattoos/marks, but otherwise wasn't anything special, so maybe you can play a less powerful version of a Siren, called a Banshee or something
>>
>>21003550

I could see that. maybe leave off the unique Phase- abilities etc. until like the apex of the class and keep the more common talents Sirens have.

Also, am I the only one disappointed by the Steele-trap in BL1? I mean, she was just a reskinned Lance Assassin. They couldn't even give her a unique attack or two?
>>
>>20995988
I'm playing a mixed turret/DIY damage game. My plan so far is taking the shield upgrade from the Survival tree, Sentry, the shield skill and Scorched Earth from the Guerilla tree and then go down the Gunpowder tree all the way to the end.

Scorched Earth turret is ridiculous against slow enemies. Badass Psychos and Goliaths just melt within seconds.
>>
>>21003600
I guess you could fluff that as there had already been a new Siren born, so she had lost her powers. But yeah, Steele was more than a little disappointing.
>>
>>21003507
As far as the Siren debate goes, there will be people who want to play Sirens, and for the most part, the fact that someone is a Siren is relatively minor. Sure you're one of six, but when you bite it for good, there's going to be another one born.
>>
>>21003600
What kind of unique attack? Being shanked from behind by a tentacle? Her body being waggled at you menacingly?
>>
>>21003660

Something other than the like, two or three attacks Lance Assassins have, anyway. Which, as far as I remember were "I stab you with my laser katana" and "I throw some shuriken at you". I don't complain about Ned or Knoxx because they were bosses already, and had some decent attack palettes.
>>
>>21003652

still won't bring back angel, Jack

The Tattoos are a side effect of being a siren.
Steele most likely had tattoos and was not a Siren.

6 sirens at one time, but there are 13(According to the Bradygames Strategy Guide, there are thirteen Sirens in existence. This is thought to be the total number of confirmed sirens to have ever existed.) possible.

So lets say there are 13 Phase ablities.
We know of three.
>>
>>21003660
Hey, don't knock it. It takes great effort to find a suitable tentacle
>>

So how badass are Vault Hunters on the Official Badass Scale of Pandoraâ„¢*
They are seen as really awesome and dangerous beings(well the ones that aren't killed by Jack, I guess you need to be a real badass to not be killed by Jack)

Put it like this, by the end of Borderlands 2 you offically [spoilers] replace the Warrior as the most dangerous alien killing machine on the planet [/spoilers]
And of course, you're so fucking hard that you can instantly recover from a rocket to the face by just killing someone
>>
>>21003720
Siren abilities are pretty much Phase and something. Maya's Phaselock holds someone in place and Lilith's Phasewalk does the ethereal thing. An example Phaseblast ability would be a AoE explosion of an element, causing DoT as well.
>>
Rolled 1

>>21003806
Almost got a chance at 'the invincible'. Oh well, ultimate badass is nice.
>>
>>21003851
And don't forget that whenever Angel hacks a machine, she says "executing phase shift"...
>>
The siren problem can probably be solved by creating artifial sirens (mermaids if only female?) or similarly powered people by pumping them full of eridium, that is, those few that survive.

Also, rather than an RPG wouldn't a game like necromunda make more sense for borderlands? tribes of bandits attacking each other would be the base, and then creatures and bussinesses are added if it works.
>>
>>21003870
Thats a brilliant point I hadn't considered. Maybe some kind of teleport ability, manifested through the AI?
Obvious one, phaseshot. Goes clean through any protection known or unkown to man
>>
>>21003851

So, do we want to have players as Sirens pick like, one of three choices of Phase ability, or what? I guess we could invent some kind of random Siren table.

>>21003870

Phaseshift was pretty clearly some kind of VR or "enclosed space" making power with machines. Angel could probably put her self and other people inside spaces which were also inside computer systems. Then do stuff to them.

>>21003875

Why would we want to play bandits? They die. A lot.

That would be awesome for a wargame set on Pandora. Guiding the fortunes of a bandit clan, or group of "innocent" people, all trying to get to Sanctuary before the doors shut and your left outside against the Hyperion hordes

Ultimate Badass Slag Goliath? That'd be like a Slag God-liath, right? I'll call him Stump.

Phasehax should totally be a thing.

"Congratulations, you are now controlling an enemy. Pros: Totally make you enemies fight each other while taking no harm yourself! Cons: Your body is now standing stock still drooling like a retarded idiot while you do this!"
>>
>>21001874
Actually, items are generated Type => Brand => Parts.
You can tell because pistols and non-weapons are four to a chest, and rocket launchers are found alone.
Whether or not you turn up a unique is probably determined somewhere in or right before the 'part' stage, since unique weapons have 2 or more parts that are specific to that weapon.
>>
>>21004004
Everytime you phase back to your body your "teammates" are trying to balance things off of your body
>>
>>21004004
No, no. You do a Paxton Fettel and restore your energy by posessing people and eating their energy as you use their body as a meatshield
>>
>>21004050
Unique weapons are hand crafted, and then attached to certain areas. So, certain bosses will always drop certain guns. Like Knox's pistol, or that rocket launcher King Mong drops
>>
>>21004004
Phasehax sounds pretty cool.
>>
>>21004065

We, so far, both Sirens have a "Regenerate HP while using your Action Skill" skill, so that part was probably a given.
>>
>>21004111
and when 'killed' the body you just napped explodes, with just enough of a timer to let you run up to his old buddys.
>>
>>21004073
I meant Legendary, sorry.
>>
>>21004253

For BL1 anyway, Oranges are probably generated mostly from the optional "Accessory" part. Not sure if rarity is decided before or after an item is generated.
>>
Right, so: we've decided on DH with shadowrun bits mixed in?
>>
>>21004302
many Oranges are generated from the 'accessory' part, but a few are not, such as the thanatos which is a magazine part.
This makes the thanatos pretty cool as it can potentially also have a non-legendary 'accessory', so you can get stuff like 'double thanatos'.

Also at least some legendary accessories are scripted to always spawn it certain other attachment, so it might always spawn with a large/small magazine, or always with the best stock, etc.
>>
>>21004111
>>21004139
Parasite Tree - Pimps out your Phasehax.

Vampyra - Heal wounds when posessing someone with phasehax. d5/round or something.

Heart Ache - A possessed enemy that dies deals explosive damage to nearby enemies.

>>
>>21004363
Thoughtless Defence - forms a barrier in front of your empty body when you are possessing someone (giving both your body and your allies some more protection)
>>
>>21004416
Bandit might be shooter, but Torque are blaster, and Jacobs are choppier.

Though it is a cause for endless strife amongst ork's wjhat is better; more explosions or bigger n' louder explosions
>>
I think that the best way to handle classes is to let players build their own to suit the character they want to play, with a main ability and a few trees.

For the sake of expedience, I'll call the abilities Rage, Pet and Stealth.
Pet is the turrets and Bloodwing.
Rage is gunzerking and rage.
Stealth is phasewalk and deception.
I'm not really sure what phaselock would be, maybe a kind of rage? Or just make a new category, doesn't matter much.

Once they choose an ability, they can choose the form it takes, which may or may not have anything to do with the trees they choose. Like, you could summon a car anywhere as a pet ability, or have a 'sniper rage' that deals massive damage to something stupid-far away. Angel hacking things would be a pet ability, methinks. Whatever, you get the idea.

As for trees:
Proficient - focused on a weapon type, use Hunter/Assassin Sniper and Gunslinger/Sniping trees as examples, or Brick's Blaster tree.
Elemental - straight from the Sirens, but easy to explain as technical/using slag on your pet/technomagicks.
Mastery - improve their ability, like Assassin's Cunning, Hunter's Rogue, Commando's Guerrilla.
Medic - focus on healing/buffing allies; Soldier's Medic or 2iren's Harmony trees for example.
Endurance - improve shield, health, fight-for-your-life equivalent.

This is starting to verge into make-a-system territory though, and that rarely gets finished or even started.
>>
>>21004466
But Vladof still has the most dakka of them all.

Bandit: Dakka, dakka, dakka...[a minute later]...dakka, dakka.
