The ring of a bell. The sound of waves crashing upon the ocean. Familiar noises that only make your body tense. Anxiety courses through the entirety of your body. Are you dead, are you alive? The importance of living slowly slips away.

"Gahh." a voice. Sand shuffles below as you stand to your feet. "What's going on?" you ask no one inparticular. A few glances around and you're no closer to having the answers you seek. "Where the hell am I?"

No response. This wasn't Aldria, this wasn't Earth. There was a vast, endless ocean beyond the white shore. In the horizon there is no setting sun, instead there is a large tree. It's limbs extend up into the sky and curve downward towards the surface of the ocean. It's reminiscent of the World Tree of myth. The water in which the tree stands is gray and murky. Behind you there is an unknown pathway that runs through a forest of dead trees.

"What... is this place?"

You step off the sandy beach and onto the aged pathway. The path below your feet is cobblestone with some cracks here and there. Grass grows up through them, giving the path a little color. To your sides are dead bushes and the dead trees that you saw from the beach near the endless ocean. Eventually the path ends, converging on an eerie church.

'What is this?' is the first question to come to mind. This place was otherworldly as far as you could tell, even though it looked like a place you would find somewhere on Earth. "Hello?" you ask the question but get no response.

Nearby shadows appear in the form of a human figure. They pay no attention to you, only sitting on the ground around a bird fountain to the right of you. No words are spoken. They don't respond to your previous hello. They simply mind their own business.

This place just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

The curiosity for the shadows eggs you on. You walk on over to the gathering shadows which still pay you no mind. After a moment one of the shadows leaps onto the bird bath, balancing on it with one leg. The other five that were sitting around stand up then clap. "I have to get going."

You move forward and press your hands to the door. They open up without much trouble. "Hmm..." the church is filled with shadows of varrying sizes. They sit in the pews as if they're all attending a Sunday sermon. None of them pay you any mind. Without any interruptions it's easy to make your way down the isle and to the front of the room.

"It's been a while since I've seen a new face." you didn't notice it at first, but there was a pink haired girl sitting on the pedastool in the center of the altar.

"What?" you take a step back. The girl with piercing golden eyes has a carefree smile.

"I was just saying I haven't had any visitors in a while... you don't have to panic." she sighs.

"Who are you and what is this place?"

"I've forgotten my name." the unknown girl places one leg over the other. A deep sigh as she recalls long lost memories. "Since I'm all alone here, a name is kind of useless to begin with." she ponders for a moment. "Oh right, this place. It's where everyone that's lost goes. Those who have fulfilled their purpose, those who have been imprisoned for fulfilling their duty. The ultimate reward for self-sacrifice. You can call it Heaven, the Afterlife, it really doesn't matter. Those who come here lose themselves, their memories and fade into the shadows." the girl looks to all of the dark silhouettes that inhabit the church. "A fate worse than death."

"So that means I'm... dead?"

"Sort of. You came here because the world rejected you, or that's what I think. You might as well take a nap. If you do, he process will be much more painless. Pick a spot, anywhere and rest a bit. You're probably tired."

"Tch.. like hell I will... but... isn't there a way out, if there's a way?"

The girl shakes her head in lament, "No, I would have found it. When I first came here, I frantically looked around after a friend of mine had departed. Through the forest, through the church and the ocean. I found nothing. There was no hope." she speaks softly. The hope in her heart had died so long ago. "Surrounded by water with nowhere to run, imprisoned on this small island." a hand runs through her hair. "No matter how much I wanted to see my friends again, I wasn't allowed."

You shake your head from side to side, "I'm not you, maybe I can find a way. I know I can!"

"... I'm trying to do you a favor." the girl says as she stands up from the altar. She walks forward until she only stands three feet away from you. Long golden hair that stops just below her knees. There aren't any accessories in her hair. Her golden eyes are unlike yours. Yours have hope, hers do not. "I really don't want to fight."

"Why would we fight?"

"It's also a sort of shepherd. I have to keep things in line here, but there really isn't much in the way of trouble that comes here... so I rarely have to do my job." the girl frowns. "I really don't want to fight you. Please, don't cause trouble."

>"I can't keep that promise. I HAVE to find a way back. No matter what."

"I can't keep that promise. I have to find a way back, no matter what. There are too many people left behind for me to protect. I'm needed."

"I thought the same thing... but you're probably underestimating the people you've left behind."

"You may be be right, but I'm still going back."

The girl turns around, walks up to the altar and pulls out a large scarlet lance. It's about one and a half times her own height. "This is the Spear of Destiny." she twirls it effortlessly then walks back down to the floor. She shakes her head. "Are you really going to fight me?"

The girl stops for a moment then laughs to herself. "Alright, you got me." the girl with the lance shrugs. "I've been here for a century, maybe more... I can't wither away into a shadow as much as I'd like to. I'm going to be here forever, until the end of time. With no one to talk to, with no one to call me by name, I grew lonely... I fear that you will find a way out and I'll..." she curls her lips as she bites down on them. "I'll be alone again. I can't leave, so I thought I would lie to..." the girl shakes her head from side to side. "..keep you here. I realize that's selfish, that's wrong but it's my only chance at grabbing hope again. My only chance to find something more..."

You don't say anything.

"Peace is meaningless if there is no one to share it with... living is meaningless if there is no one to feel or touch, to show that you're alive." the guardian laughs. "I'm sorry but... I can't let you leave." she swings the lance horizontally, causing a large blast of wind to explode outward.

You stand your ground, sliding just a foot backward.

"I'm trapped here. Forever... you aren't. Your mind is here, but your body isn't... it's not the same for me. So that's why..." the girl's grip on the lance tightens. "That's why I'm going to stop you, no matter what." she swings the lance again firing off another shockwave of air. You still stand your ground as you shield yourself with your arms.

"You really don't have to do this!"

"I don't have to, I want to. If there's a faint glimmer... even a chance I can have happiness.. if I can be satisfied, I'm going to take it!" the golden eyed girl lunges forward at an amazing speed.

"Then I'll just have to take you WITH ME!" as the lance rips forward, you immediately step to the side to avoid the tip. In an effort to disarm the girl, you extend a hand to grip the lance. It instantly vanishes in a blur.

"HAH!" the girl comes from the air with the lance held out. It was obviously meant to impale you. Without even reacting, you reach a hand up, gripping the tip of the land before it even comes close. No blood is drawn. It's a perfect catch. In response your opponent swings around with the lance, using it as a means to try and kick you in the face. Easily you lean backward to avoid it. The guardian pulls the lance away, flipping in the air as she spaces herself from you. As she lands, she races forward in another blur for a second attack. "Aaaaaaaaaah!" she screams. One swing, two swings with the lance form a red X-shape in the air in less than a second. Effortlessly you dodget them by stepping back. She gets increasinly frustrated the more you dodge.

A swipe at the legs.

You avoid it with a single hop.

Another lunge with amazing force put behind it.

You pivot, extend an arm out and grab the lance. She blurs again and vanishes, only to appear a few feet away. The attacker readies herself again, ready for another go.

Another second later and she is at it again as she zooms forward, closing the space between herself and you. She stomps on the ground to deliver a flurry of lunges with the lance. One, two, three, four, eight, twelve. The lance makes a buzzing noise as its speed increases. You dodge one, two, eight, all of them. Your speed increases with each second.

"HAH!" one move of the fist. You try to uppercut the attacking girl after you find an opening but it fails. She retreats, only to teleport and appear overhead. "Perfect!" the guardian's attack fails. She attempts to impale you from behind while attacking from the sky. "Idiot!" you catch the lance with one hand for a second time. Before she can teleport away, you quickly pull it forward and steal it away.

"Huff...!" she breathes in surprise.

"HAH!" you thrust the but of the lance up into the air using the blade as a handle. The pinkette receives a dangerous blow to the stomach which knocks the wind out of her. "ONE! TWO! THREE! FOUR!" you repeat the same motion over and over. "FIVE! SIX!" on the last one you thrust her into the air. You place your hand on the butt end of the lance and start twirling it. Over the head, behind the back, it's an excellent display of skill. "HAVE IT BACK!" you toss it at a violent speed. The lance's pronges catch the guardian in mid-air and it smashes into the top of the altar for all to see. The girl's neck is caught and she's hanging with the lance as her only support. You deliver a small two-fingered salute to the defeated observer.

"I can't move, I can't leave. I've looked and looked and I've found nothing. I don't know where you're from, what you can do, it really doesn't matter." the girl shakes her head from side to side.

"Stop being so negative." you continue to walk down the beach and eventually you reach it. The waves smash against the shore. The light from the Tree of Light dances on the merky water. "So beyond there?"

"Yeah."

"Let's go then."

You walk forward and the girl still stands there, unmoving.

"Go." she says, waving you off with her hand.

>"Fine then."

I like that.
Even if we CAN'T save her, we might at least get to talk for a bit.

"You need to stop thinking you can't get out of here, since I believe you can. So don't believe in you, believe in me. BELIEVE IN THE ME THAT BELIEVES IN YOU! Kick reason to the curb and do the impossible! Your spear is the spear that will pierce this prison!"
All while dramatically animated!
Let her laugh all she wants.

"I'm your first guest in two centuries, at least enjoy my visit for a while." a deep sigh as you look onward to the dying tree.

"Tch... at least you're not shoving your false hope on me... oh wait, you are." the girl's eyes turn to slits. "I'd really appreciate it if you just stopped. Pouring salt on someones wounds is frowned upon, or at least that's what I remember."

"How am I-"

"If you have to ask that, you're a bigger idiot than I thought." her fists clench. "Stop trying to instill your petty heroics on me, I'm sick of hearing it."

"I-"

"Sick. Of. Hearing. It." the girl looks as though she's two seconds away from tearing into you with that lance again.

You sigh again. Well, maybe she didn't want saved? No, no. She can probably be saved, there has to be some way! She gave up hope, there's always hope.

>"You can't give up yet."
>"Fine, you win. I'll leave you here."

Say nothing and go to the tree WITH her. Hold her hand,or throw her over your shoulder if you have to.

Fine ,we'll stop talking about it but we're not giving up.. Maybewe can world code her back with us or something

Ask her about the dead woods

There is nothing else left to be said. You walk along the beach to try and search for a way to get to the tree. You clasp hands with the pinkette as you continue the search. It turns out that its roots extend all the way to the island itself but it isn't quite a bridge. The two of you hop on. After a few moments, you reach the tree itself. It's large and that's pretty much there is to it. It's not hollow showing no signs of life. "This thing must have been pretty beautiful in the past."

"It was." the girl replies as she looks upon the plant.

"I wanted to ask, but why is everything dead here? More specifically, the trees?"

"I don't know myself..." the guardian answers, trying to let go of your hand. However you're not that easy to get away from.

"You should know, you've been here for more than a century."

"I don't..."

"Hm..."

>Keep going
>Just stay at the tree

Examine the tree.

>>21046476
Look around the tree, see what condition the bark is in. If it changed then that means that this place isn't timeless.

You examine the tree up and down with your eyes. The bark is a deep white that shows that it hasn't aged a bit. Does this place have any flow of time? "Hey."]

"What?" the girl holding your hand was really disinterested in everything going on around you.

"This place doesn't have any passing of time, does it?"

"No." a short answer. She really didn't like you.

"Hm..." you look up and leap into the air with the guardian girl in tow. The tree was uniform through out, nothing changed aside from the really 'dead' look that it had. "Hum..."

"The flowerfield is beyond there." your partner points at an island not to far away from there. You can jump if you put enough strength behind it!

>Go to the island
>Stay at the tree
>What to do?

>>21047036
I'm tempted to say do a small bit of damage to the tree and see inside it and if it's normal. Even if not, we'll leave a mark for this girl to remember us by on the tree.

Another look at the tree and nothing has changed. "Can I see that lance?" you extend a hand forward as you grasp at the air. Instead of giving it to you, the girl stabs it into the tree then pulls it out.

"That's what you wanted." she is completely disinterested in you. You nod in thanks then move forward to look inside of the tree.

"Well isn't that weird." inside the tree there are silver strings that go up and down, almost like veins in the human body. They spread out to touch upon every part of the body. Certainly wasn't a normal tree, but whatever it WAS it's dead now. "A shame."

"Let's get moving." says the girl who was so reluctant to go on before. She lets go of your hand then jumps far, all the way to the other island. You follow her soon after. What you see is a large field of flowers.

The clouds part ways up in the sky, letting a small string of light escape. It's almost like a guiding light.

>Follow it
>Stay with the guardian

"What does that light point to?"

"It leads to a body of a boy. I know nothing about the name or who it is so don't ask." she dismisses any furhter questions as she walks toward it.

"You're really helpful." you say with a bit of venom in the voice. You follow the girl to the body. It's in a small clearing of flowers almost as if it was a resting made for the child.

A helmet sits there beside him. His hair is a messy blonde. It's spiky, his eyes are closed and a satisfied smile upon his face. He wears gloves, a small chain-mail skirt decorated with rust. Scars upon his face, arms, everywhere you can look.

"Do you know him?"

"His name is Asterik, the first Summoned Hero of Aldria. I didn't know him personally but I've heard of him." you crouch down to examine the body. Four feet tall, small. Didn't look to be as all powerful from the stories you've heard but judging a book by its cover can spell death.

"Asterik, huh? He has the right idea..." the girl yawns. The guardian drops the lance and takes a seat on the grass. "Maybe I should... just relax." she yawns a second time.

"You really that tired?" you place a hand on your hip.

"Y-yeah... just... a bit." all of a sudden the girl falls back onto the flowers. "Why don't you join me?"

"No thanks." you shake your head from side to side.

"Suit... yourself...." then that's all she says.

"Hey, you asleep? I thought you said that you didn't need to sleep. Hey, are you going to wake up? HEY."
