THIS QUEST IS NEWBIE FRIENDLY

This plot summary:

Will get you caught up without having to read the archives, though for those interested in the long version, the archive can be found here:

It's also worth noting that the map is now out of date, as the Goblin Gang has been swallowed up by the Iron Guard and the Ronin. It'd be cool if someone could make a new one.

It's now the second week of April. You've a number of problems to address. You've captured Tarot, but still have to figure out what to do with him. Dr. Dandurand and Dr. Span must be dealt with somehow, and with a light touch. The Cat is still being chased around by Behemoth. And incidentally, the Red Death will be your best friend if you help him against Dead Eye and vice versa, but since you're not currently fighting with Chimera, that's not as much of a concern as it used to be.

Also, I apologize for missing yesterday. Once again, real life schedule is kind of hectic and unpredictable, but at least it was just the one day.

And since I haven't mentioned, when my life is going as planned, this quest runs daily at 14:00.

About Tarrot: I vote we call Kronos and Tell him about how Tarrot's powers work. Tell him that we figured out 3 options:
1. Let Mr crazy go.
2. Break his deck and drop him off at the local mental hospital.
3. Ask a local hero if he knows any friends who could help Tarrot out with his powers.
Guess which one we chose?
(If anyone on team blue knows someone who can help Tarrot, it has to be Kronos right?)
>>
>>21056444

Being semi-retired, Kronos is difficult to get in touch with for Team Blue. For Team Red, he just lets you go to messages. So you leave something explaining about Tarot, explaining that he is clearly going to be better off without powers that snap his brain in half like dry tinder, and hoping he can help everyone involved out somehow. He doesn't respond.
>>
>>21056519
Dang. Could a basic internet search turn up the top magic using guy on team blue? Because I imagine we could just call him directly and or call the mayor of the city he is in.
>>
>>21056553

Magic types tend to be more secretive than most supers, but White Mage operates out of Las Vegas. Calling him up specifically isn't doable, as a hero's public phone number is guaranteed not to get you a personal response and you're not part of the Vegas supers community and don't have any of White Mage's contact info. But you could probably get the mayor's attention with a phone call, being a moderately important super villain from a fairly close city.
>>
hey newfag here

there was talk about making legit business and I believe that if we do we should make an hospital, why? because
1.we are more or less trying to find a cure for death so it would make sense for us to make one.
2.it would earn us a few "good guy" points with kernell.
3.it would be a good cover up in case one of our men got injured.
4.we could also make a truck load of money for "patching up" (read implanting drone probes) underground men and supers.

there are other reasons I though of, but I can't remember them
>>
>>21056612
Not the other anon, but I think we should just tie Tarot up in a fancy straitjacket (a straitjacket with a timed injector filled with enough drugs to keep him sedated over a few days) with a pretty red bow tied around his neck and leave him on our city's Mayor's doorstep -AFTER- we burn his deck of cards in an incinerator.

Leave a monogrammed card with our symbol or initials on it.
Let's just get Tarot out of our hair.
>>
>>21056612
Seems like the guy to call. Tell the mayor that we've got a super who is being driven insane by his own magic powers. And that his powers have a set chance to kill him instantly whenever he uses them, which would really suck for whatever villain is fighting him at the time. So could he please get in touch with White Mage to see if he can't give this guy some help. Who knows, if it works Las Vegas might have a new member of team blue when this is all over.
>>
>>21056702

The mayor refers you to an aide, who asks for some further information on what's up with Tarot so that White Mage will be able to make a reasonably informed decision. At the end of the call they say they'll pass the information along, but are in no position to be making any promises on White Mage's behalf.
>>
>>21056685
I think shipping him of to Las Vegas will get him out of our hair, in a less violent fashion. Plus, once Tarrot's a card-shark I think he's a perfect fit for LA.
>>21056661
I agree, minus the brain probe bit. Plus I think using a weakened form of Peak strength might work as a revolutionary cure for muscular degeneration.
>>
As usual, if we can't agree what to do about Tarot, let's roll a d20 for it.
>>
Rolled 1

rolling for handing him over to white mage.
>>
>>21056770
oh yeah right one of my other ideas was to test the cancer thingy on a load of monkeys to see if it could be used for healing and not mutating people into horrible monsters
>>
Rolled 18

>>21056847
For now, keep Tarot sedated and locked up until we get a call back from White Mage or Vegas' Mayor.

If it's okay and not retarded to do, the Iron Master should send a courtesy note to our city's Mayor explaining the deal with Tarot (his powers make him crazy, we are trying to ship him to White Mage who is the nearest magic-user so Tarot doesn't hurt or possibly kill someone on Team Red or Blue with his powers and subsequently get himself killed) so neither the police or Team Blue get suspicious of foul play when he's gone too long and get their panties in a twist, and to cross-reference it with Vegas' mayor's office if they need confirmation that we are trying to help him.

This'll probably win us some anti-villain points if it goes well.
>>
Rolled 11

>>21056930
It can. We can produce a lesser Cancer serum that'll heal people up but it's just expensive. It costs something like 3 resources a shot, they get a health point back and can regenerate from a gibbed mess, if I'm recalling it right.
>>
>>21056938

Alright, looks like this is our winner. Which mostly just leaves the question of what to do until (and if) White Mage gets back to you.
>>
>>21056930
of course, there is the interesting question as to why Eden Tech apparently didn't use animal tests for the Cancer Serum in the first place. I'm guessing it was a cost cutting measure.
>>
>>21057041
Good question. I think we should consider dealing with the good doctors. What exactly did project Ominus want to accomplish again? I'm trying to remember if it involved anything we would actually mind happening.
>>
>>21057087

They want to prove that the technology developed by EdenTech can be used to do good in the world despite how much harm the company has brought to the city. Their method is to wipe first you, then Chimera from the face of the earth. So.
>>
>>21057127
Awkward. Why can't they just try to cure cancer or something? I'm thinking that if we know where they are, and since they didn't have a robot army. That we just polity double park our robot army, have one of our mech knock on their door, and politely ask them to please take their incredibly dangerous reactor someplace else. Preferably a different city. It's just not neighborly you know.
>>
Send ghost rica to find out as much as she can from them, including who their mysterious visitor was.

Buff up our defences, it wont be long before chimera tries to fuck us from behind.

Omnus was our only enemy when we faught chimera?
>>
>>21057316
Depends, the Family and the Espada fought with the Ronin (our allies) for a bit. They bowed out pretty quick though. I think we need to be about improving out street cred though. Best way to do that is find Asearal and help amp and Taser pound him flat.
>>
>>21057316

>Buff up our defences, it wont be long before chimera tries to fuck us from behind.

Okay. How?

Ghost Rica hangs out for a while eavesdropping on the good doctors. As opposed to the bad doctors you've got at home. Regardless, she overhears a few enlightening conversations. With the failure of his robot army to storm Palos Verdes, Dr. Dandurand wants to try integrate with the supers community into the same support role that EdenTech used to play. Dr. Span is reluctant to do so, but it's his reasons that are unsettling: He's afraid that if they go public, word will get out to Kestrel that they've been speaking with Amp.

Bugger all, my computer is seizing up. May have to reboot.
>>
>>21057127
weren't we going to build a shit tastic maze of half assed traps and fun house mirrors, cardboard cutouts of famous villains, balsa wood ball full of wasps,Room with a door. No windows. Door is heavily armored. Water flows in. Door is unlocked, exct
>>
>>21057456

>>
>>21057456
Hmmm, not sure, the technical stuffs over my head.
boost morale and slowly replace sets with elite ones?

Oh shit, we should let kestral know
>>
>>21057517
slowly replacing bruiser sets with elites, then giving them Photon and Aegis would work.
>>
>>21057505

No, but no indication to the contrary, either. They just mentioned that they've been speaking with him and that Doctor Span in particular is worried Kestrel might take it poorly if she finds out, whereas Dandurand thinks the best thing to do with regards to winning Kestrel's trust is to actually be trustworthy. The conversation was mostly about Kestrel.
>>
>>21057612
could we break out the bouncer from the tower and have him help the cat fight Behemoth?
>>
I still think we should hunt down Asreal and help Amp beat the crap out of him. I take it that it is reasonable to assume that Amp hates Asrael and would like to throw him in the tower/murderise him?
about Kestral's increasing disaffection: have Steve talk to her and ask her what's wrong. If she has a problem, she can just talk to dad. One of the reasons he keeps you around is to serve as a moral compass. After all, if he wanted an immoral super, he would have just brought back strike instead. Plus he doesn't have that many other friends, and they don't give him the best moral advice in my opinion. Mask is loyal beyond death but has a pretty bad background and a warped code as a result. Julio has seen too much crime in his life to guide dad well. And the doctors?
>>
>>21057678

> I take it that it is reasonable to assume that Amp hates Asrael and would like to throw him in the tower/murderise him?

This is a very reasonable assumption. I think so far it's only been mentioned on the wiki, but Asrael beat the shit out of Amp, crippled Taser (prompting his semi-retirement to San Diego), and outright killed the Watcher, one of Amp's super friends. So yeah, Amp holds a grudge.

>>21057650

Sure. There's pretty straightforward rules for breaking people out of the Towers, and a villain refusing to repay a favor can be grounds for being punted to Team Black. The favor trade is vital to what little unity Team Red has, and threatening it is threatening the continued existence of Team Red at all, so the villains can be pretty vicious in dealing with ingrates.
>>
>>21057809
And we don't like Asreal either do we? I sense a possibility here...
>>
>>21057929
The trick is going to be tracking down/drawing out of hiding Asreal. I see two options:
1. We cause a ruckus. Some sort of Mustache Twirling Villainy (that doesn't actually kill people) guaranteed to bring Asreal out of hiding. When he does, us and team blue turn on him and stomp him flat. We'd obviously have to arrange this ahead of time ofc.
2. We track Asreal down and bring down the Hammer. Cleaner, but relys on our ability to track him down.
I recommend we ask Kestral for advice.
>>
>>21057678

"What's wrong?" Steve asks. Kestrel's absent-mindedly licking the ice cream off of a spoon and staring into space with her "something is wrong" face.

"What? Nothing, I'm fine," Kestrel says.

"Kes, come on," Steve says.

"I don't want to talk about it, Kestrel says.

"You can't do everything yourself, Kes," Steve says. "Just talk to me."

"Everything I tell you gets back to the Iron Master," Kestrel says.

"So what?" Steve says, "he's trying to help you. He didn't bring you back to life and give you extra powers for nothing. Mask's morals are as fucked as her childhood and Julio's a career criminal, he wants your perspective."

"Bullshit," Kestrel says, "if he wanted my help so bad he wouldn't shut me out of the higher levels of his organization. He doesn't tell me anything, you don't tell me anything, and I have zero input into anything the Iron Guard does. He doesn't want me to be his shoulder angel, he wants me to be his hitman."
>>
>>21058111
"Have you tried? Just as you said, Everything you say to me goes to dad. So why hant you tried to put in input Kes? If he needed a hitman he'd build one, he doesnt need you to fight his street fights and turf wars for him, he needs your help on those, inner battles he has."
>>
>>21058111
"if he wanted a hitman, he would have brought back strike, not you. If you want access to the higher levels of the organization, just ask."
(I've got no problem with her getting access to those higher levels. As long as we manage to bury all mention of 1. the fact that we kinda accidentally started the war between the Goblins and Family. (okay it was on purpose, but we didn't expect them to get that blatant) 2. That we murdered the police chief. 3. the killing swordsman. I can't think of anything else that we can't mention to her.)
>>
"Dad operates almost compulsively on a need to know basis. Hell, he didn't even tell Mask who he was or where he lived until after she died and ended up in his workshop. He was really surprised that she never told Amp that when he threatened her."
(oh, and OP, you might want to note Steve's new stats if you are rolling for anything, they're on the wiki)
>>
"How am I supposed to make suggestions when you won't tell me what any of your plans are? You wouldn't let me hear a report on a serum you planned to inject me with, I didn't know about the attack on the Goblins until you were already moving sets into place for the push, and the only reason you told me anything about Omnus is because my family was directly involved. How am I supposed to give my input on situations you don't tell me about?"
>>
>>21058518
Then tell her:
1. Mask wants to take out Compton, Julio wants to hold pat. I think Dad's going to side with Julio for a bunch of reasons.
2. Dad's trying to turn Tarrot over to white mage for treatment.
3. Your Dad's in contact with Amp and is considering trying to replace Eden Tech as a team blue supplier. Also needs to work on hiding his secret base. Dad's worried about that power core, things very dangerous.
4. Dad's considering enlisting Amp to take care of Asreal before that idiot kills more people. >>21058052
5. Cat's been egging my dad to help her out with Behemoth for weeks. He doesn't seem interested in an open fight though.
>>
>>21058650

She seems kind of stunned for a moment, opens her mouth to say something, and then closes it again. Apparently just asking to be included hadn't occurred to her. "I, uh..." she starts, and then, regaining a bit of composure, says "tell Cat she needs to agree not to operate in your turf. That way, once your turf is everything, she'll have to go find some other city to bother. I'll...Think about the rest some more, I need some time for this to sink in." She waits a moment, and then says "sorry...For being angry. I guess it was kind of over nothing."

"It's fine," Steve says.
>>
Hmm can we start putting her on video confrence from now on when we're deciding on stuff with julio and rica? Maybe that'd make her happy or something
>>
>>21058872
She's not actually hurting anyone, and the high value thefts are from people who can afford the loss. If anything, Behemoth got something nicked from him and is trying to get it back, or someone is paying him. Or he is just the big dumb hero he is who's tunnel vision on catching cat is making things worse for the city, he should be hitting Chimera more often, his punch is more useful there. It is partially a good idea though she'll not like it, behemoth would still go after her no matter where her heists will be in the months if not years it'd be for me to take over the city, if even. He's really dead set on her though, she really isnt working for me or anything, she came to me for help in the first place because he's been hounding her. Heh, cat, dog, im funny."
>>
>>21059004

"I don't want her in the city," Kestrel says, "I can help get Behemoth off her back, but only if her crime spree gets put on a timer. I know it'll be a while before you control the whole city, but there's no way she'd agree to just leave the city flat-out. I mean, if she could do that, she would've done it already."
>>
>>21059209
Sounds fair enough. Now to look into legit businesses...
>>
>>21056401
We going 50/50 with ronin on top?
>>
>>21059373

Yeah, you've each got three out of the six neighborhoods in Westside.
>>
>>21059320

As a quick reminder of how that works (and to help keep things moving):

All businesses cost one resource per turn in upkeep, and make a profit equal to however much the city makes with an active precinct in the area. You can build businesses in neighborhoods you don't control, but rival gangs can smash them at will if you do. Plus, there's no way to make sure the local police precinct stays down if you don't own the turf. I'm pretty sure the current rules paste has two contradictory pricings for the businesses, so to be clear, the initial cost of a business is double the square of its income each turn. So a Robbery neighborhood business costs 32 resources, whereas an Arms neighborhood is free. You don't have to pay anything when improving a neighborhood with a business in it. The method for making businesses profitable revolves around putting cheap franchises down in low-income areas and then improving them.

>>
Okay. I just put together a page on the differences between the Ironverse and reality, most of which haven't really come up in-quest and all of which are becoming increasingly important as your position in the city and local politics becomes more established.

>>21059873

You have a Robbery neighborhood in Palos Verdes and another in Santa Monica, but the cost on buying a business in a Robbery neighborhood is a jawdropping 32 resources, which is more than you have. Generally speaking, the strategy for making profit off of legit businesses is to put a franchise down in a low-income area for cheap, then improve the neighborhood to get profit.

Buy a buisness at the nieghborhood that is drug (that we don't want to be drugs) then improve to robery. So kestral is okay with us beating up behemoth?
>>
>>21060340

Shit happens, heroes take some lumps sometimes. If she were going to pitch a fit every time you picked a fight with any member of Team Blue, she would've ditched you a long time ago. Besides, it's seriously not a huge deal if Behemoth gets beat up. The rules of engagement are there to stop supers from actually getting significantly hurt in these fights.

Does anyone have any particular ideas for the name or industry of the business? I'll just default to Droidsmith, Inc. if you guys don't have any particular preference.
>>

I prefer Droids Do: mechanized helpers for every occasion (not a thinly disguised IM Front). We should probably suppress the precinct it's operating out of though.
So yeah, arrange Black Cat's help. I imagine a few Swordbreaker mechs will take Behemoth down very quickly.

Using Bouncer as well is kinda overkill. Remember what happened the last time Behemoth fought 3 of our bots and Cat. I'm not sure he will do much better against her and 6 of our bots.

>>21060881
sounds good to me. Who is best at improving the neighborhood from drugs to robbery?
>>
>>21061061

Julio is an improvement whiz. I use him to improve things by default since you've never used someone else given the choice. So, the Iron Master sinks an action into starting up Droids Do in Playa Del Ray, but Julio is unable to improve the neighborhood at all. Didn't roll higher than a 5 once in six rolls. Seriously isn't his day.

and make sure kes is on the bot raid
>>
>>21061360

To be honest, I won't even bother rolling dice for this. Sneak attacks and Super Speed combo together really well for supers who dump everything into Athletics like Behemoth. Behemoth's Observation is three, and Cat can decrease his total by five points. Behemoth isn't walking away from *eighteen* Cunning attacks from Photon weapons.

So, yeah. Cat robs a jewelery store, Behemoth shows up and gets smashy, mechs emerge from the shadows and pump absurd amounts of plasma into him. Kestrel convinces him that since his super power is property damage, he probably shouldn't be chasing after burglars no matter who they're working for. There are more important threats in the city, things worth punching holes through walls over.

You have completed the Cat And Mouse event and received 3 XP.

And now I have to run off.

Yes. You can either ruin wealthy neighborhoods into hooker ones, expand your turf, or establish business franchises. All of these have various costs and benefits.

stalkers and hounds specialize in guns right? if we want legal businesses its their turf were gonna want to take over next. Problem is that leaves us open to the chimera I am really uncomfortable expanding with those fuckers waiting. Meanwhile what can we do with Rica? screw with the hounds and stalkers a bit weakening them?
>>
>>21064550

Traditionally, Rica's been used for the attack option. She can afford to lose as much health as she wants because she's immortal, she can cheat on Athletics and Stealth checks by using a Battle Doll, and plus it fits her personality like a glove.
>>
>>21064550
Well, if we expand, that'll cause more of a power disruption amongst the gangs but there isn't anything wrong with planning ahead and learning more to exploit.
Could we have Rica scope out the defenses of the various Stalker and Hounds neighborhoods and get a rundown of what we'd be up against and what we might want to subvert for our own gains?
>>
>>21064602

She won't be able to see anything shielded, but yeah, she can scope out the South-Central region. She scouts Carson and Lakewood, in Stalker turf (although it's worth noting that the Stalkers and Hounds both occupy the same broken region). They're home to the New Mafia Stalkers and the Twenty-Ninth Street Stalkers (respectively), relatively weak gangs, but the Hounds and Stalkers don't really have any particular weak spots. They're small and poor, but their sets are all tough. Carson is Hookers. Lakewood is Drugs.
>>
And the glass turns.

Amp has definitely been upgraded. He attacks the Red Guard, and from the look of things, he's been injected with the Swordsman Serum. That, or he's been hitting the gym. He's a lot stronger and faster, plus he's still got those sonic blaster gloves. The Red Guard doesn't collapse, but it's at 1/3 Morale.

Meanwhile, Chimera begins moving into the tunnels beneath the city. They're sticking to the areas directly beneath their turf in Long Beach for now, however. No one else does anything particularly special.

chimera move to the underground concerns me work on fortifying/guarding the routes underground. focus around our turf. if they try to attack from below their gonna find a nasty surprise waiting for them. Julio continues as last time. Rica should start tearing up the two gangs using a strike modified corpse. Whip up a special costume for it. If any1 investigates have her appear to be a super with a grudge for some reason.

Cool. I think we should get amp off our case with by offering him a shot at Asreal. As for the Doctor's, their reactor is their Achilies heel, both logistically and politically. Am I right to assume that if it became widely known what would happen if their reactor had a problem they would be under pressure to relocate?
>>
>>21070383

I'm pretty sure they're committing like four felonies by running that thing out of an abandoned subway tunnel.
>>
>>21070453
Starting with a couple million counts of reckless endangerment. I vote we sic some new and improved pidgin bots on Asreal (would they need to be modified to improve their chances?). Then call Amp

Also is there anything that needs doing? Sets the need to be refilled? If not were likely good for the week. Unless the IM wants to try setting up shop again where Julio failed.
>>
>>21070881

You still get the same amount of XP. Also, you've got full action points. Are you actually going to not use them for anything?

>>21070879

This sound good to everyone?
>>
>>21070904
No way we don't use them for anything. Julio still has to improve the neighborhood from drugs to robbery.
>>
>>21070925
we also have to suppress that precinct first.
>>
>>21070925

While Julio works on bringing the value of the territory up (he only manages to make it to Extortion unfortunately, his luck with the dice hasn't been great), you and Rica are able to quash the local police precinct.

Meanwhile Amp takes the hint that Playa del Ray is apparently important for some reason and spends some time messing things up over there. Of course, he can't reach the Platinum Legion until he punches through the shield from the Platinum Guard, so he goes ahead and hits them, and hard, bringing in dozens of your men. By the time Amp's done street sweeping, the Platinum Guard has fallen apart altogether.

Also, I forgot to mention, but there's a new event up.

Grudge Match
Objective: Defeat Amp (again)
Reward: 3 XP
>>
>>21071088

And yet again I've forgotten to mention it when a new turn rolls around. Meh. But yes, it is now the fourth week of April.

Action Points:

The Iron Master: 2/2
Julio Pedone: 3/3
Rica Rivera: 2/2

Resources: 51
XP: 6

That resource count is absurd. Buy yourself something pretty.
>>
>>21071105
Okay, Replace the Platinum Guard with the new Platinum Guard, an Elite set. Then buy it Aegis and Photon. How much would it cost to get 2 XP?
>>
>>21071190

Right now, it would cost a total of 15 resources.
>>
>>21071105
Did you forget about white mage or is he just not returning our calls?
>>
>>21071196
So if we bought Mask and Kestral super strength, us 2xp for deathless and created the Aegis Photon Platinum Guard, we would still have 2 resources? What would it cost to make that nonlethal version of photon btw?
>>
>>21071204

Ah, yes, I had forgot about him. He was supposed to have got back to you a week or two ago. Presumably he got trapped in Tartarus and had a big pile of messages to go through when he got back.

Regardless, he says he can take Tarot off of your hands, and asks to meet you in the middle of the night in an out-of-the-way road out in the countryside just across the border between California and Nevada. Which is also the border between the "jurisdiction" of the LA Team Blue and the Las Vegas Team Blue. Apparently he doesn't want to trade on the other team's turf.

>>21071250

Elite set=15, +10 for Photon+Aegis, so that leaves you with 26 resources. 15 for Deathless, then 4 a piece for the Super Strength would be a total of 23, so by my calculation you should have 3 resources left, not 2.
>>
>>21071417
Fair enough. He probably knows enough about us to know that all he'll get is some totally expendable mechs if he springs a trap. And Tarrot, but he's getting him anyway. Needless to say, the mechs have the normal self destruct acid thingy. So lets do it.
>>
>>21071417
make it so
>>
>>21071483

The night is lit by a full moon when you arrive at the designated meeting spot. You've been waiting a few minutes when a soft beam of light falls from the moon, and the White Mage appears within it, cloaked and masked in his signature color. Wordlessly, he approaches Tarot, when suddenly there appears in a puff of smoke immediately behind Tarot a man in a flamboyant purple-and-black tuxedo and a masquerade mask. He taps his cane on the ground and a shockwave shoots out, momentarily stunning your mechs and White Mage, and grabs the still-groggy Tarot by the collar. "I'm afraid I have to stun and run, brother," he says, grinning, "but please, let my lovely assistant entertain you." With that, there is another burst of smoke and the masked man and Tarot are replaced by a scantly clad woman with a butcher knife, who giggles manically and races towards White Mage.

Well. That didn't quite go as planned. But it's not your problem, is it?

We should probably ask Kestral what she thinks of us simply calling the cops on her dad over the whole power core thing. It's not like either her or Amp can't break her out whenever they want. Or we could just warn them ahead of time somehow. (Actually, now that I think about it, Team blue people are hilariously bad at breaking people out of prison)
>>
>>21071752

Getting Matthew's body functional again will require those last three resources. That okay?
>>
>>21071889
Considering the action bump? YEP! Did White Mage tell us who the heck that was? Or did he not know himself?
>>
>>21071752
Or an old one. White mage has his Evil Roy. Eitherway, he stole Tarot who doesnt have his powers, since we hold, All the cards here.

Eitherway, some quick diplomacy on miss butcher girl here? "Hey, why are you working for some chump who leaves you as a disposible asset. Against this super and us, you're liable to take a few beatings or worse. Seems like you're getting the short end of the stick, and this evil magic fellow just wanted to sacrifice you for his getaway. What do you say you instead come home with me, let this hero chase after your old boss, and we get you something more decent yet sultry, something with gold trim im seeing. That, and you get the beach! instead of the desert."
>>
>>21071922
Next round we'll simply instagib the girl. and since they didn't grab the cards, we have a short window to eliminate Tarrot's powers.

**Phase Shift (You can walk through walls)
**Stability (Spend up to 5 PP to increase your DR by the same amount for 1 round)
**Teleportation (You can teleport about 20 feet per PP spent)
>>
>>21071658
"Well that happened, Sooo White Mage who the hell was that? "also don't kill the girl she may just be mind controlled, just KO her
>>
The girl and White Mage trade blows for a few moments, he dodging around her crazed strikes and swirling his cloak about to confuse and disorient her. He has the clear advantage even before the mechs get involved, and it's about three seconds later that she's on the ground with a few broken ribs. Still giggling manically, she drives the butcher knife into her own stomach, sudden shock seizing her as the blade enters. Sighing with frustration, White Mage kneels down next to her, pulling out the knife and laying a hand on the wound. His hand glows white, and her blood begins to flow back inside of her body, the wound slowly sealing itself shut.

"Who was that?" one of your mechs asks.

"It is no concern of yours," White Mage responds, "now get out of my territory, before I forcibly remove you."
>>
>>21072117
Very well (walk the five feet it takes to get out of his "territory") Do an internet search.

>>
>>21072278

Naturally, it's not hard to google up White Mage's rogues gallery. It looks like you have indeed run into his arch-nemesis, the Magician, and his "lovely assistant" Magic Trick. A quick search shows that this will be the fourth time in six months that Magic Trick has tried to kill herself somehow after losing a fight with White Mage, and that she never stays in prison for very long. Regrettably, the unfinished Catalina Towers is not accepting prisoners from outside of Los Angeles county until it is completed, except in special circumstances where the need is particularly urgent (most notably: The Artificer).
>>
>>21072355
Fun fact: We're like 5 feet from LA county right? we could just lie and say that she was five feet to the west when we knocked her out.

>>

>>
>>21072683
Personally, I'm in favor of buying meta speed, putting on Aegis and Kicking Amp's ass ourself. No mechs. How do those odds stack up? (if we actually go into trouble we could always bail ourselves out with Mask and those ten Mechs)
>>
>>21072734

Alone, your odds aren't super amazing. Amp's heaviest hits are Cunning attacks, remember.
>>
>>21072806
And when matched up with a team like Mask And Iron Master, with Mech support? If we can break Bouncer out of jail first and have him throw a small gas truck at Behemoth's house as a distraction, we could deal with amp Then and There.
>>
>>21072806
Meh, send 6 mechs (with an extra 4 as backup, no need to tell people we are more powerful) to beat on him. Let me make some Amp killers:
Damper Class mech
H6 P2 A6 C0 A0 I6 N0 S4
Super Strength Deadly Weapon (this bit is nonlethal right?)
>>
>>21072850
Sounds like massive overkill. Lets not use too much force
>>
>>21072850

With ten mechs and 2-3 supers, you're very likely to crush Amp by virtue of sheer attrition. Worth noting, however, that your mechs universally have Insight 0, which means you're basically guaranteed to lose one every two rounds or so. With a total of ten mechs, that shouldn't really be an issue, but it's still sub-optimal to take on any Cunning-based attacker (i.e. Asrael) with mechs who are helpless against their attacks.
>>
>>21072969
Oh look, a new mech class!
>>
>>21072906

Oh, hey, probably should've refreshed before responding. Deadly Weapon can indeed be non-lethal, despite the name (probably I should find a better way to say "Natural Weapon but more," which, given the tone of some of the powers, could probably just be "Natural Weapon But More").
>>
>>21073012
these guys will give Amp a bad day though?

Definitely.
>>
>>21073092
maybe not fully Dampers though, maybe 1-2 commands or hackers on nearby buildings hidden as overwatching Warrior/Sniper builds on the roofs keep an eye out for Behemoth or other interlopers. Synthed 'police' [around 8] make sure civilians evacuate and the news camera stay out.

I guess, but behenoth's not that fast. Seems to me that adding more bots is just going to create another harbor city battle. Get in, gank and leave is my motto
>>
>>21073558
Well it is only to keep it from becoming a harbor city battle. Any first responders will have to deal with the support teams first rather then getting right to helping Amp.
>>
>>21073601
They won't get their in time unless we wait around. Look at the other super battles. Only time the cops interviened is when we waited for them.
>>
>>21073744
It's enveloping a net around Amp. If he tried to run or hide, we've got overwatching snipers on the rooftops to either pinpoint him or take shots. He wont get away because we wont let him get far enough.
>>
>>21073815
But he is squishy, so we don't want to shoot him.
>>
There is just two of us. Let's just roll a d20 and be done with it.
>>
Rolled 4

>>21073913
Seems fair.
For sniper teams of custom sniper build terminators. SWAT marksmen rifles from stolen armories available for this task
>>
Rolled 14

Just send six dampers with 4 in reserve. Get in, beat up get out. Don't forget to ask him why he is chasing us instead of asreal.
>>
Amp is on one of his usual patrols in your turf, so you send your wolf pack of mechs after him. Eight of your new Damper class mechs head out while two Command mechs move into position nearby, bringing packs of terminators with sniper rifles along with them in case Behemoth comes knocking.

By the time the mechs arrive, Amp is nowhere to be found. The mechs begin to investigate, when Amp ambushes them from behind a parked car, firing a pair of sonic blasts which, collectively, are enough to catch all of your mechs in its wake...but fortunately they aren't very well-aimed or well-timed, and nearly all of your mechs are able to dodge out of the way. The mechs turn to attack Amp, who runs inside the building to escape. The mechs come crashing through, but are too slow to catch him, as it would appear his speed has been greatly enhanced. He ambushes the mechs again with another pair of massive sonic blasts that tear the lobby of the building apart, blasting out the windows and leaving one of your mechs, already damaged from the previous blast, completely destroyed. Two of the mechs are able to escape the blast zone, however, and converge on Amp's location. Their fists slam into him like a sledgehammer and send him tumbling down a hallway, but he staggers to his feet and fires off another blast towards the two standing mechs. Both of them are stunned by the first blast, but the second never comes; Amp's gauntlets are out of power. He escapes higher up the building. Your mechs aren't going to be able to catch him...

But Rica can. Strike's body makes her just as fast as Amp, and your serum makes her a lot stronger. All she has to do is find him inside the building...

At the same time, Kestrel gives you a call. "Heads up," she says, "I'm going to give your mechs some trouble. It should shut up some of the guys who think I'm part of your club, and they aren't catching up to Amp anyway."

>wat do?
>>
>>21074304
Would it be an excellent time to let her fight us in the open? Bit better than a mech. Or did we move past that idea since I left to buy a tie?
>>
>>21074407

You're already spending the action to get all the mechs out there, and it's not like she's playing for keeps. Hell, this is a fight where you're basically not even keeping score.
>>
>>21074304
Good luck. Fair warning, they won't hold back. After all, we might as well do this right.
>>
>>21074407
Meh she's enough faster than us that letting us escape would strain credulity. Let her trash some mechs.
>>
>>21074454
How can it not be an action where it's Us and Them? Seems silly since in that terms if we went alone we couldnt bring a bodyguard of mechs with us.
Adding that you never mentioned this Until Now, even after we'd discussed it!
>>
Kestrel begins circling the area, using buildings as cover and swooping down from the sky, diving through the shattered windows to hit-and-run, using her speed advantage to avoid ever having to actually stick around and fight. A kick sends one mech crashing into another, and the both of them end up in a crumpled heap on the ground.

Further up the building, it's not Rica who finds Amp, but the other way around, and Rica's Insight is not that great. She doesn't notice him until the first blow connects to the back of her head. Rica turns around, but Amp slams his gauntlets into her again, pummeling her into a corner. His luck can only hold out against Rica's immense strength advantage for so long, however. She shoves him away, sending him tumbling across the floor again, and then tosses a desk after him. Amp slowly begins pulling himself to his feet, but Rica arrives and yanks him up herself, pinning one gauntlet in her hand and squeezing it tight until it breaks, a sickening snap taking his wrist with it. "You get on my boss's bad side again, and I'll break both of them, along with every bone in your body," she says, spits in Amp's face, and then shoves him to the ground.

She takes the stairs a few floors back down to the lobby, where Kestrel is in the middle of her fight with the mechs. She's shaved the total number of mechs down to just three when one of them finally sees her coming and swats her aside, sending her crashing through the debris in the lobby. "We're done here, let's go," Rica says to the mechs, which follow her out while Kestrel pulls herself back up.
>>
>>21074545

Uh, yeah, that's what I meant: You already spent an action getting the mechs out there so it wouldn't cost anything extra to go yourself.

>>
>>21074803
All's well that ends well. We can have a dramatic entrance some other time.
>>
Kestrel's not in much condition to pursue. Or at least, she can tell the papers that. She's definitely got the bruises to show it, and she's reasonably certain that something might actually be broken...But that happens now and again. When the police and ambulances arrive moments later, she and Amp meet up in the lobby, speaking with the police. "What are you doing here?" Amp asks, though not confrontationally.

"Saving your life. Didn't work as well as the last time," Kestrel says.

"Well. Thanks for trying," Amp says.

"You're welcome," Kestrel says back. "You doing alright?"

"I'm fine," Amp says, "just another super brawl. Give it a few weeks and I'll be good as new. It's this that's the problem," he lifts up the busted gauntlet. "This'll take a while to fix, and if they bothered to break the other one, I'd have to start from scratch."

"You should come down to Long Beach. Chimera hasn't got as many supers up their sleeve, and their street grunts are a lot more dangerous to the average citizen anyway," Kestrel says.
>>
"And you aren't just saying that to get me off the Iron Master's back?" Amp asks.

"No, I'm saying that because one super trying to take on an entire gang won't work, has never worked, and never will work," Kestrel says, "it's a Slemp strategy, and all it does is make it look like you're getting things done without ever really cleaning up the streets. You're the one who taught me that, and that's why we spent eight months hammering just Daimyo Okata, remember?"

"Why Chimera first?" Amp asks, and then immediately says "don't answer that, that sounded stupid as soon as I said it. Better question: who's next?"

"If it'll get you to stop trying to knock him off solo, I will try to convince Team Blue to go after the Iron Master after we finish with Chimera," Kestrel says.

"Who else would even be on the list?" Amp asks.

"The Ronin, because they were there for the Eden Tower attack and word on the street is that Okata and the Iron Master are pretty good friends. Plus I hate leaving things unfinished. Also the Santos Espada, because of Asrael's...Thing with them."

"Well...It's gonna be a while," Amp says, gesturing with his good hand to his wrist, which has already had a cast put over it. "And I don't want to agree to anything while I have this many painkillers in my system."

"Alright, cool, we'll talk later," Kestrel says.

You have completed Grudge Match and earned 3 XP.
>>
>>21075176
Speaking of which. We could build businesses in Ronin lands couldnt we? Gang shakedowns only matter if they arnt allies afterall. A nice resturaunt or two as well (Ronin gave a nice 5% discount and free fountain drinks)
Matter of fact, let's have the Damiyo over for a nice dinner, invite Antonio Columbo, Super powered Family Man as well, to see how he is enjoying his newfound powers. Let's bring Mesmer too, havnt had a sitdown with him in a while. An open seat for Cat, if she wishes to join us, as well as The Red Death. All the nice restaurants are in Downtown (especially after the wrecking ball you took to the Palos Verdes economy), but the Daimyo is more than happy to help organize the event. You send out a super to just about every villain in the city. Chimera is going to be so jealous.

Antonio Columbo has taken up the moniker of the Made Man. He turns up, along with Mesmer, and once the Red Death learns that Dead Eye will not be attending, he is happy to join the party as well. The Cat arrives, wearing an evening gown and fine white gloves, along with an elaborate ball mask that covers at least as much of her face as her regular costume.

Overall things go nicely. During the party, Daimyo Okata finds you (or, rather, your bot) alone, and says "Iron Master, I have a proposition for you. I understand if you would prefer to keep the event social, however if you have a moment to hear it, we could both stand to benefit."

How do you mean, exactly? You already have a Droids Do in Playa del Ray, do you want to make another business in another neighborhood?
>>
>>21075670

Four acts are planned total, although Act IV is basically just an extended strategic boss fight with a bunch of tactical boss fights strung through it, which makes it really, really short. The intended nemesis for Act II was Omnus, however the alliance between you and the Ronin took a lot of the punch out of his Networks' attack (the Ronin's human wave capabilities just so happen to be Omnus Network kryptonite, it turns out), and the infinite reconfigurability of the mechs along with their ever-increasing numbers flattened the upgraded Amp (getting the balance on the mechs so that they're useful without murdering everything has proven to be extremely tricky). Act II is meant to have a lot of putting out fires (sort of like when the Networks and Chimera were both on you at once), but the speed with which you've been able to smack some of them down has killed a lot of that.

Seriously throw cyborg beastboy, robyn, Starfire and Raven from the TV show at us. An alliance of relatively weak supers might pose a different challenge.

>>21075815
good idea but also have them favor ambush tactics. if we can get a heads up we can prepare. Take that away and were in trouble.
>>
>>21075881
u do have a point there thats bad.
>>
Or you could just send a minion master against us.

Yeah, I'm not really freaking out over Act II. I'm mostly concerned that things might get dull if you keep steamrolling everything that gets put in front of you, but Act III should take care of that.

Anyways. Daimyo Okata.

"All cities in the western world end up either contested between Team Blue and Team Red, as Los Angeles is now, ruled by a shadow government led by a single villain, or else run by the government propped up by Team Blue as a whole. The Frightener tried for decades to create an alliance between 'villains' that would give us the unity that Team Blue so often enjoys, to no avail. And yet we have the seeds of just such an alliance right here in this restaurant."

"What exactly is your proposition, then?" you ask.

"We must convince the Family to join an official alliance between the three of us. Then you will seize Compton. With the Hounds and Stalkers distracted and nothing else but allies at my back, I will be able to swiftly and decisively crush the Santos Espada. This will give the both of us a border with Chimera and more than enough power to rid the city of them as well. All that remains is to find some way of distracting Chimera while we seize Compton and Eastside."
>>
>>21076080
"All the king's horses and all the king's men haven't been able to slow down Chimera much lately," you say, "Team Blue can't do the job, and the Family has no border with them and little incentive to pick a fight with them regardless."

"Indeed. It is the greatest impediment to the realization of a united Team Red in the city. If the Family cannot or will not do it, I have only one idea left to offer, and it is a risky one."

"This idea being?" you ask.

"Asrael," Okata says, "Team Blue is practically non-existent in Long Beach. If we can convince Asrael to attack Chimera, his destructive capabilities will be more than enough to keep them occupied."

as far as xp goes I think we should ether go Mechagodzilla or Reanimate Ghoul, Necromantic Focus and Reanimate Zombie because Ghoul seam pretty much like Mechs light but much smaller
>>
>>21076092
I like it, let us attempt a Triumvirate!
>>
>>21076092
True. On the other hand, don't forget Amp's grudge against Asreal, they could all to easily stop fighting chimera to focus on each other. And you know Chimera would give it their best shot to make that happen.
>>
>>21076144
I think we finish out the super speed line. Lets us run away better. Plus, three action per round are three actions per round.
>>
>>21076092
"And how do you plan to do that? He isnt on the best of terms with me, for whatever reason. Wouldn't it be easier, and less aggravating, to use my technology improved from Edentech, backed by yours and my pockets, to Create the Swordsmans of Team Red. think how some of your men become, the Katana, The Tetsubo, and the Wakizashi, with skill, power, and finesse respectively. The Family would jump at the chance to become part of these elite, Made Man being just the beginning. We are swiftly becoming beyond the levels of mortal human capibilities Okata, with this city being the foothold to something greater.

ok sounds better
>>21076188
this does not bother me we don't like amp at all he is an ASS
>>
>>21076248
I'm not exactly his best friend. But if team blue and Asreal fight each other instead of Amp there goes our distraction.
>>
>>21076245
probably wouldn't be that easy. Plus one of the advantages of our alliance with the Damio is that we can take him personally out whenever we need to. He has no anti ghost defenses and isn't a match for ten mechs.
>>
>>21076245

"An interesting proposal," Okata says, "and quite a bit more under our control than Asrael. How long would it take to produce these artificial supers?"
>>
>>21076352
With the right amount of resources? Not long. But I dont want to risk the same mistakes project swordsman had made, we need the right people to become our blades.
>>
>>21076352
I've already done most of the work. Anyone who thinks my personal combat abilities are minimal is... mistaken. 800k each (meta strength, meta speed + aegis armor)
>>
>>21076391
"I've... one already, you might have seen her before. Artificial intelligence is such a wonderful thing (to play off Ricabot) But for you, you'd need to find men that would be loyal beyond measure, that would owe some sort of blood debt or even greater, that see you as you are, Ruler by right, because, when handing over such power, why still work for us? We've seen it before with Bouncer, a mercenary in the end from a gangster's beginning.
But these Artificial supers give us, an astronomical edge, numbers alone put Team Blue in trouble."

Of course, the good Doctor's will need to be reigned in by then, in our hands, otherwise, Project Swordsman will become a thorn in our side once they start making their own counter supers.
>>
>>21076433

"An agreeable price for such power. I shall begin looking for suitable candidates immediately. Naturally, I can pay for my own subordinates powers. With this, the long conflict between Team Red and Team Blue may finally come to an end...And we will be the victors."

And then a thought enters your head unbidden, from a voice you recognize as Mesmer's. "Someone here is looking for you. They're not invited. I don't think they're here to harm you, but their mind hasn't wandered towards their ultimate goal, so I can't say for sure. Be careful."
>>
>>21076548
'THANKS. HOW DOES THIS WORK?! DO I JUST YELL IN MY HEAD?'
Time to meet the guest, Chai maybe?
"Yes, the Iron Master and his Dominion of Steel, as long as his ally Shogun Okata can provide the men, the swordsmen of red will be born. Best get back to the party, dont want to leave ervyerone asking questions."
"Cat, you're looking... Beyond lovely tonight, where did you pilfer such a lovely number?"
>>
By the way, I have a D&D game in thirty minutes, so we're calling it for tonight at 00:00 server time.
>>
>>21076548
Who the hell? (Are we here in person?) Mesmer would probably be able to tell if it was Asreal or Tarrot, and I can't think of anyone else crazy to come uninvited.
>>
>>21076611

>(Are we here in person?)

Oh, yeah. Oops. Oh, well. I guess we can assume he just finds you and tells you.
>>
>>21076599

"I never kiss and tell," Cat says, smiling, but then someone else head-turning shows up. The interloper you'd been worried about is indeed Chai, though she's come dressed as Strike. The other supers gathered eye her with some suspicion, except for Mesmer, who is now visibly relaxing. "I owe you a favor," Chai says, probably more for the benefit of explaining why she's here to everyone else than to remind you, "and I have some information you'll find interesting."
>>
>>21076709
I hope this isnt about more superheroes shipping into the city, we were having such a nice evening afterall. Come now, you can hold off on the good news, or bad, for later. Take a seat and give the menu a look, i treat friends and past kidnapping victims well."
>>
>>21076651
... As long as he doesn't actually know where our top secret base is.
>>21076709
Do tell.
>>
>>21076746

"I don't have time to chat," she says, "Dead Eye has a bounty on the head of Julio Pedone. He thinks it came from the Family but the money is coming from Chimera. You're welcome." Made Man raises his eyebrows a bit, and Chai turns around to leave immediately after.
>>
>>21076848
"Assassination? Well, it appears it is time to strike the remaining super from Chimera's hand. Furthermore, in trying to instigate a war between me and the Family, we now have a chance to get them on our side. If you'll excuse me, I have a call to make, to red death"
>>
>>21076848
"Antonio? Care to weigh in on the matter? Afterall, your family failed to whack Mr. Pedone before, thinking he too old to be of use to them. Now they shell out the big bucks though, is it Chimera, striking after our uneasy piece, or, Is is your family, breaking the ties of metahuman blood that flows through you? Or do they not tell you things that high up?"
>>
>>21076893
He's at the meeting.
>>
>>21076907
needlessly confrontational.
>>
So, D&D game starting imminently, which means I'm out to get that ready. This is approaching auto-sage, so probably I'll be starting up a new thread tomorrow, which means it'd be cool if future posts sage. I'll be able to read the stuff in the archive anyway.
>>
>>21077017
iite, game well my friend!
>>
>>21077017
