Last time on Mobile X Destiny, Anon-kun finished class and had intended to go with Miyuki to her home to recover her belongings. While waiting, he was met by Chiyo, who asked to help out. Once Miyuki arrived, she consented, and the three of them made their way to the house in question. Upon arrival, the storm broke, and Tempest made quick work of the house, setting it aflame.

What does a guy have to do to catch a break?

How did things escalate so quickly? You don't know, and you almost don't care. The rain pelting against your skin feels heavier than usual. The sound of the rain slapping the ground is deafening, so much so that you can barely hear Miyuki's anguished cries. The source of this pain is straight ahead of you, across the street: Tempest. She's standing in front of what is Miyuki's house with a very pleased look on her face as she watches her handiwork. The fire she started in the house starts to spread fast, even with the downpour doing best to quench the flames.

Miyuki is too distraught to make any decisions, you realize. In fact, you almost don't want her there right now, just to keep her away from this inevitable bloodshed. You look to Chiyo, whose visage is a mixture of rage and despair. Her fists are starting to ball into a fist, and it looks as if she's trembling. She slowly turns her head to you. "Anon-kun," she says seriously.

"I... I know." You grit your teeth. Tempest hasn't noticed any of you yet, as she's still content to marvel at her handiwork. You know you have a few options here, but you aren't sure what to do.

No chance taking on Tempest in a storm like this. And as much as I want to just leave, I imagine not at least trying to check on her father will bite us in the ass.

You glance to Chiyo, then to Miyuki. "Chiyo," you say seriously, "I want you to take Miyuki back to my house."

"What?"

"I'm going to try and see if Miyuki's father is safe," you say evenly. You don't like him from what you know of him, and you'd be fine with leaving him the fire to let him burn, but Miyuki is obviously devastated. If you can make sure he's safe, then you might be able calm Miyuki down much more in the long run. From there, well, you'll cross that bridge when you come to it. Chiyo looks a bit concerned with your request, but she nods. You nod back, and the three of you split up, the two of them going back and you moving in.

You sneak around the back of the house by moving through two neighboring houses. The flames are raging through the windows, but they haven't quite saturated the entire house yet. You move up to the door and throw your shoulder into it. It doesn't budge the first time, nor the second. On the fourth time, though, it finally blows open, and you're greeted with intense flames immediately. "Sakurano-san!" you shout over the raging flames. You see that there's actually a rough path not in flames. Covering your mouth, you maneuver through the flames and manage to get into the living room.
>>
Sitting on the chair across from you, you see a body writhed in flames. You're lucky you can't smell anything above the smoke, but the image is revolting. You know it's her father, and he's most certainly dead. You turn around and backtrack, getting out of the flaming house as quickly as possible. When you escape, you fall to the ground in a coughing fit. When you recover, you get back to your feet and glance around before fleeing back to your house. You glance back and see the car that was once in the driveway is now gone, as is Tempest. You stop, though, and produce your cellphone. You dial the emergency number, and when an operator picks up, you say, "I need to report a housefire." You give them the address, and then you add, "I think there's someone inside, so please hurry." When you hang up, you make haste back to your house. You head inside and see Chiyo on the couch, holding Miyuki, who fainted. Chiyo gently sets Miyuki down on the couch and looks to you.

"How did things go?" Chiyo asks quietly. The grim look on your face tells her all she needs to know. "Damn," she mutters. "I was hoping to save her from any more trauma," she continues, "But I guess it's not that easy."
>>
"Nothing ever is," you mutter. You want to hit something. Could you have been able to save him if you had moved faster? Maybe, maybe not. You're willing to consider the latter, since he looked to be pretty far gone when you found him. You stand there in thought, and then you come to a shocking realization. Miyuki has no other family that you are aware of, which means... "This really is the worst," you say to yourself. You don't want to disturb Miyuki as she is, so you wonder what to do.

The idea of food is revolting right now, so you don't really even want to go into the kitchen. Instead, you walk over and grab a book from the bookshelf in the living room and sit down in the chair near the couch. If anything, you could read and maybe distract yourself a bit while watching over this poor girl. Her father, even though he was a complete waste of space as far as humans go, was still the one that gave her a place to live. He took care of her, right? He must have, at least before you met her. How long ago that was, though... You have no idea. So, you busy yourself with this book. You didn't even read to see what it was; you check the spine and realize you grabbed a dictionary, of all things. You shrug, content to read it. It's better than thinking about what you saw earlier.

Chiyo sits down on the floor and leans back against the couch. You glance up at her a few times, and a small smile cracks the dark look on your face. Her head is close to Miyuki's, and she at some point fell asleep. They both have peaceful looks on their faces, which is a rather large turn from earlier. You close your eyes a moment and return back to your reading.

Hours pass...

You're about half way into the dictionary when you notice motion on the couch. You close the book and see Miyuki waking up. "What happened?" she asks quietly.

You decide that it would be better for Miyuki if you were forward with this. Break it to her at once, then help her get over it as time goes by. You take a breath, then relate to her what you had intended to do: sneak in the back, save him from the fire, move on. That's when you explain what you found. You make sure to avoid any grisley details, and you quickly finish your story, not wanting to drag it out for a long time.

"I... I see." You can tell by the look in Miyuki's eyes that she's torn between love for a parent and hatred for an abusive father. "I need to get some air." You nod, and Miyuki stands and walks out of the house for a short period of time. You're sitting in your chair and you see Chiyo still sleeping soundlessly against the couch. You aren't sure what to do at this point. It's later in the day, and the initial gruesome scene you saw earlier has faded a bit into memory. It still bothers you, but not as strongly as it did earlier.

You pick Chiyo up and carry her sleeping form up to your room. When you enter, you set her gently on your bed to let her sleep. You turn around and head back downstairs and step outside to see Miyuki sitting on the porch, her knees up under her chin. The sound of the rain is soothing, so you can see why Miyuki would want to come out here. Thunder rumbles in the sky, and you sit down next to Miyuki. At first you start to say something, but you realize that it might not be best to initiate the conversation just yet. You take a breath and just close your eyes and let the sound of the rain distract you for the time being. You feel a small weight on your shoulder, and you notice Miyuki holding on to you.

"Anon-kun... What am I supposed to do?" she asks.

"...What about your mother?" you ask.

"She left when I was young... I don't know why. Father... Father said that she left him for another man, left me becaus she didnt want the responsibilities..." For some reason, that doesn't sit right with you. You aren't sure why exactly. After all, if Miyuki's mother didn't want the responsibilities of a child, she could've had an abortion, right?

Miyuki sighs quietly. "Thank you..."

"You don't have to thank me, Miyuki." You wrap an arm around her in a hug. "If I can help... That's reward enough." She hugs you back tightly.

You say nothing and instead pull her into a full hug, letting the action speak for itself. She hugs you back tightly, and she's content to sit there and hold you like this. You let her break the contact when she's ready, and she sighs deeply. "You ever wonder what things would be like if none of this mindless chaos was thrown at us almost on a daily basis?" she asks.

"Yeah," you say without hesitation. "Though I'm sure it would be something boring, like me trying to take you out to a movie or something."

"That's boring?" she asks playfully. "What constitutes being exciting, then?"

"I don't know," you admit. "I haven't had much time to think about it... You ever go hiking, or camping?" you ask.

"It's a lot of fun, being able to be around nature. My favorite thing, though," you explain, "Is the chance to really see the stars on a cloudless night. It's amazing being able to see the stars, and to really grasp how small we are in the grand scheme of things. Imagine looking into the sky and seeing so many lights, you can't count them all. Some are from stars still burning brightly, but others are stars that burned out long ago, yet continue to shine because of how long it takes the light to reach us. Some are planets in our solar system, others are satellites..." You trail off, getting lost in your thoughts.

"That sounds amazing," she breathes. "I guess I really missed out, didn't I?"

You're quiet for a moment as you contemplate what to say next.

"I like the idea," she says, looking more like herself. She smiles at you, but you know she's not as happy as she could be. If anything, that smile is probably for your benefit. You hear a grumbling from Miyuki's stomach, and she blushes. "I guess I'm hungry," she says.

"We can fix that, you know, You just have to tell what you want, and after an unspecified amount of time, what you asked for may or may not appear on a plate in the kitchen."

"Want to come hang out in the kitchen with me?" you ask. "Maybe even help, if you're up to it."

"Sure," she says. She stands up when you do, and the two of you head back into the house and head for the kitchen. When you glance around the room, you aren't sure what to make. Miyuki already said she didn't know what she wanted. Without much thought, you start pulling the stuff you'd need for omurice. Chicken, garlic, eggs, rice... Soon, you're cutting the chicken into pieces and preparing everything. "Anything I can do?" she asks.

"Sure, if you want, you could..." You give her a few things to do, nothing super difficult, and she goes to work. Between the two of you, you're able to prepare three perfect plates of omurice. "If you'll set the table," you say, "I'll go get Chiyo."

"Okay."

As Miyuki does that, you head upstairs to your room, and you see Chiyo sitting on your bed, wearing one of your shirts. "Ehh?"

"Anon-kun~" she says with a small grin. "Hi hi~"

You shake your head. "Come on, dinner is ready."

"You're the best, Anon-kun." She stands up and that's when you realize she's wearing one of your larger shirts, and she's not wearing her school uniform. You immediately notice her bare legs, and you avert your eyes before she notices your gaze. "Let's go."

"Uh.. alright." You head downstairs and enter the kitchen, and Miyuki is filling up a glass with water.

"What do you two want to drink?" Miyuki asks. You ask for water, and Chiyo gets juice. "Here ya go." She puts the glasses on the table, then takes a seat. She sees Chiyo, and her eyes widen. "Oh. Is that comfortable?" she asks.

"Surprisingly, yeah." Chiyo sits down and you catch a glimpse of her bare legs again. "If you haven't tried it, you definitely should."

"I'll keep that in mind. It definitely seems liberating."

"...Are you two seriously talking about stealing my clothes and wearing only them?" you ask. "I mean, I'm fine with it if you are. I just want to know."

"Yep," they say in unison.

You just shake your head. "Alright, well, let's eat. Miyuki and I put a lot of work into this."

"Thanks for the food!" Chiyo says with a smile. The three of you eat your omurice, and it's delicious. Once everything's done, you clean up the mess. The girls help as well, so the process goes by quickly. "I wonder if I should go home..." Chiyo says to herself.

"You want to hang out a bit more? If it gets too late, you could always crash here for the night."

Chiyo seems to consider it, and then she nods. "Alright, I think that might be fun." The three of you head into the living room and lounge around for awhile, watching movies on TV and generally trying to make light of the situation you've all been dealt. The hours pass, and soon it grows later than you had intended. Midnight.

You look at the two girls, who are both fast asleep on the couch. To your humor, Chiyo is laying on Miyuki, and Miyuki fell asleep with her arms around Chiyo. That's again when you notice Chiyo's bare legs, as the shirt she comandeered from your room rode up while she was asleep. You can see her panties, which are of the white and frilly variety. You find yourself averting your eyes even though she's asleep.

I want to pick the "only go upstair with Miyuki option, but since that won't fly I'll just go with this.

You smile at the sight and decide to improvise. You head upstairs quickly and gather your blanket and pillows, then head back downstairs. Carefully manuvering the girls, you give them each a pillow and cover them both up with the blanket, and then you sit on the other side of the couch and put your feet up on the coffee table so they have room to stretch out without having to kick at your legs. You close your eyes, and you eventually fall asleep.

When you wake, you feel weight on your body, and you feel extremely warm. You open your eyes and see both Miyuki and Chiyo migrated themselves—as well as you. You're sitting in the center of the couch, your legs still on the coffee table, and Chiyo is lying on your right side, Miyuki on your left. Both are sleeping soundlessly. You glance at the clock and see it's almost 7:30. You all really slept in today.

You wonder about that dream you had the night before, since you didn't have any dreams tonight. You frown, but when Miyuki shuffles in her sleep, you lightly stroke her hair while you consider your options.

They'll have heard about Miyuki's house, and we can justify it as she has no family left and thus really needs the support of her friends right now. Or something.

You slip your phone out of your pocket and quickly type up a text message to both Roslyn and Sayuri. 'Hey, do you you want to skip school and meet up at my house? I kind of want to have all of us together after what happened.' You send the text off, and after a few minutes, you get two questioning texts back. 'Miyuki's house was attacked by the Syndicate. We saw Tempest ignite the place. Killed her dad. She's staying with me, and Chiyo stayed over as well.' Both the texts you get back share the same response.

'I'll be right there.'

You think you can close your eyes for a bit longer. When Sayuri and Roslyn get here, you think you'll enlist their help to create a fantastic breakfast for everyone. After that? Well, you'll cross that bridge when you come to it.
