You feel terrible.
The morning light is blinding you, and your head is pounding, piercing pain coming in through your temples. Your tongue is fuzzy and dry, and you mumble something to Kaliel, who's currently sitting at the desk, scribbling on paper. She turns back, and gives you a glass of water- something she'd already prepared for you. You... don't remember much about last night, not after Raziel came back with a truly preposterous amount of swamp brew. The few things you do remember is Aeriel complaining that he can't get drunk, and the lizardmen treating everyone like madmen. You sit up - or try to, when more piercing pain shot into your head.

Just drink the water. We really need to learn to limit the number drinks one has.

You hold your head for a moment, and take things more slowly, sitting up and doing your best to drink the water, your throat sore. The water tastes horrible, for some reason, but you drink it nonetheless. Already, you feel somewhat better. You close your eyes, and bring up your magic-
And your head pounds, distracting you. Your magic falls into the ether, wasted. You drink the rest of your water, and eventually, you think you can at least pretend to be productive, at least. You start to get to your feet, and Kaliel turns back.
"Are you feeling better now?" She asked, softly.

"A little." You mumble, and stumble toward Kali. You trip, and she catches you, pulling you into her lap. "Did you put something in that water?"
"Not at all." She said. "You just need some water and rest."
"What happened?" You ask.
"Everyone but Aeriel and me drank with you, but Raziel, you and your dad were the ones who had the most swamp brew. Even Grayson couldn't keep up with you. Eventually, you, um, dragged me into bed and fell asleep instantly."

"Better than what I thought happened." You say- or try to, still mumbling, and you rub crusty bits out of your eyes. "Nothing too embarassing then? Good. What happened to those two?"
"I didn't see- I was only abovedeck for a little while." She said. "But I did see your father grab Raziel's bottom, so make of that what you may."

Suddenly, bile rises up at the back of your throat, and you cough a little. Kaliel gets you some more water.
"I'm sorry I can't help any more than this." She said.

"Don't worry." You mumble. "It was entirely my fault."
Kaliel stroked your hair, and the bile in your throat settles.
"It's still early." She said. You lean your head on hers- her face is much cooler than your own burning skin. "Maybe you should go back to sleep?"

Abruptly, your stomach recoils. You quickly get up, stumble out of the room, and make it all the way abovedeck before you vomit over the side. Aeriel is snoring out there, laying on the dragon's head.

Kaliel, you see, had followed you outside, making sure you hadn't hurt yourself.
Your stomach purged, you already start to feel a bit better- albeit the horrid taste in your mouth. It was worse than swamp brew, somehow- it was swamp brew mixed with bile.
>>

More water, delicious water.
>>
"More water?" You ask Kaliel, and she nods, quickly running off, and then making her way back with another glass. You drink it- and it was strangely cold. You swish it around your mouth, and then spit it over the edge of the ship again, before drinking the rest, properly.
"I also got you, uh, some vinefruit juice when you can handle it." Kaliel said, fussing over you. "I'd make you something to fill your stomach, but... I can't really cook."

"Everyone is still asleep." She said. "It's boring."
She peeked over the edge of the ship, and looked down- at the Children's Palace, where the daryeh were wandering about, led by snakewomen.

You nod.
"Well, then, let's make this quick." You say. You look for the dagger, and find it in your inventory, and then you step toward Grayson, who was currently lying on his back, his impossibly fuzzy belly open to hugs, and you shake him.

He harrumphed, and then rolled over and covered his head, grumbling to himself. Vaguely, you remember him drinking swampbrew from the last of the cask, using the entire cask as a massive mug.

And then Bel'lea climbs onto his head, giving his enormous head a hug. The bear chuckles.
"Ta-da!" Aeriel said, climbing up, holding out plates of... lightly charred toast, with nervghaul butter on them, and some spiceless scrambled eggs. Edible, you decide.

"Thank you, Aeriel. How long until you'll be able to port us home again?"
"In a little bit. Today, most likely, unless you need me to use my magic for something."

You turn to the still grumbling Grayson, and close your eyes, bringing forth your magic. It drains you, but his eyes finally open, and he stops plodding around. He gave you a strangely roguish grin, showing off his ursine teeth, and then you turn back to the meal and start eating it. Aeriel seems... overly proud of himself.
"Last time I tried making something like this, I burned the eggs." Kaliel said, picking at her own toast. Aeriel crunches his in his beak, happily, while Bel'lea uses Grayson's head as a table as she eats- after asking Kaliel if her humanoid stomach can handle it.
"This is really good." Belle said, grinning, and climbing down. "Aeriel, can you teach me how to make things like this?"
"Might as well." He said. "But Cassiel and Marigold are better than me."
"Marigold?"
"You'll meet her later." Aeriel said, and patted the snakegirl's head.

"Kal, let's go." You say, turning to her. Kaliel nods, and you touch the ship's control crystal for just a second- long enough to order it to the ground- before climbing onto Grayson. You, Grayson, and Kaliel make your way down the gangplank, and up to the entrance to the city.

"The same visitors, again." The guard says. "I assume you would like to speak with Velk'lea?"
"Yes, please." You say.
"As you wish." The guard said, and led you through the tunnels. You notice that, around the floor of the area, dozens of rats and rodents run about. The guard snags one as it leads you.

You finally come out in a warm room, where Velk'lea is holding yet another rat, and she split her jaw open to swallow it.
"Ah, Ishelda." She said, after sucking in the rat's tail. "Welcome, again."

>>
"Hello, Velk'lea! I hope things have been well?"
"They have." She said. "Things are transitioning smoothly, and everyone knows that it was a rogue group of dwarves. Tyr sent us a message, requesting the prisoners to be given to him. We've decided to ransom them off for our own gain."
Out of your inventory, you pull the long, dense goldsteel dagger, holding it up to her. She examines it closely.
"What can you tell me about this? With all the commotion, I forgot to ask you about this when I was here."
"This... this is one of our daggers." She said. "Made from the metal the elven golems are made from... and the seal on the back... well, it's the symbol of a certain name. A certain priestess. The seal means... well, Velk'lea. This is... supposedly mine."

"The dagger was enchanted with a powerful magic. It was... used in an assassination attempt. It had an enchantment on it that caused the first person to touch it to try and kill me while yelling about how the great wyrm wanted my blood."
"Why would they leave my mark on it?" She asked. "And explain exactly who it was that made the dagger? That means that they're obviously framing me. And I think I know who did it. Using magical tools and such... well, that's what Bel'nox is a fan of, and we've had our... differences."

"But the framing was so obvious." You say. "Nobody could believe you did it with even the tiniest bit of research. Is she really that stupid?"
"She is, alright." She said. "Nobody knows where she gets her magic from, but she seems to believe that having it makes her more powerful than anybody. She likely assumed you'd ask someone who's seal it was, and then instantly attack me. She's never been a true risk, no matter what she's tried."
"Where is she now? Can I visit her?"

You tromp through the halls, stepping past quite a few daryeh, and into spaces where the rodents get even thicker, running through the halls. You close your eyes, and try to raise mind wards three, your magic failing entirely. Kaliel takes your hand.
"Don't worry." She said. "I'm here, and I have The Soul. I think... I still think it should protect us from mind magic."

Eventually, you make your way deeper down, and you see a snakewoman, her scales painted darker, with long, black gloves up to her shoulders. She kisses the particularly fat rodent she was holding, and set it down.
"Hello." She said, giving you a polite smile. You instantly sense a feeble, particularly fragile abjuration enchantment on her necklace, but there was something... strange about it. "My name is Bel'nox."

"You didn't do it..." You say, and pause. "But you know who did. So who was it?"
"If I knew, I would tell you." She said. False.
"I have no reason not to tell you, if I knew." Truth. "In fact, I have everything to gain." Truth.

It might be that whole two minds thing messing with the spell. One believes; the other not. Or something.

"Something isn't right here." You say.
"What do you mean?" She asked. You close your eyes, trying to sense for enchantment magic, raw magic power and will combining in a force that would normally move worlds... but strangely, that feeble ward on her necklace is just strong enough to hold off your senses, stopping things there.
"Then why are you not telling me who did it? Would it be someone you know?"
"I'm not telling you who did it because I have no clues, and I do not know." Lie.

Truth comes blazing freely from her words, the strongest and most direct thing you'd sensed yet.

"Right away." Aeriel said.
"But..." The snakegirl said, and then nodded. ".. Okay, I'll wait near the entrance for you."
She vanished.
"How accurately can you translocate me once we're there? If I can touch him before he can cast anything, I can seal him."
"Matters if it's warded or not. If it's warded, I can't get you in at all. If it's not, I could probably send you and a few people in." Aeriel said.

"I just need a few sparks, and Kell, and I can make you an army." Kaliel said, her eyes bright red.
>>
>>21112173
We're wasting time, we need to get there as quickly as possible. There's no need to run away if we kill or incap. him, so let's use the turbo. Teleporting might make us miss, and then it'll still take time to get there.
>>

"Didn't you already make me an army? What happened to that one?"
>>
>>21112173
"An army may be just what we need. He has a lot of golems."

Start listing off the types of golems he has, weaknesses of them.

With our knowledge of golems how hard would it be to turn them against Theussil?

Her talent does some pretty awesome things.

How would she know? She was the one who suggested not using it just in case.
<Mala, would it break the sacrifice if I shapeshifted into a dragon? I have dragon ancestry, so I thought it might be close enough to the real thing.>

She always has red eyes, doesn't she?

They're red that turns orange. Or orange that turns red. As her girlfriend, we should probably know this...

<Kal, what are you planning to do?>
<He's flowering.> She said. <I know how trolls reproduce. I know how they grow. I can make you an army of Berecien I even have the crystal to make their minds.>

You look down to your ring. <Maka, would it break the sacrifice if I shapeshifted into a dragon? I have dragon ancestry, so I thought it might be close enough to the real thing.>
<... Yes. Yes it will.> The ... thing responded, after a moment. <But sacrifices don't break. They weaken. If you are only in dragon form for a short while, and then shed that identity of dragonhood quickly enough, the sacrifice will strengthen again.>

>>21112352
<Good enough. Thankyou. Oh, before I forget, how long do dragons live for?>

Then call up this horrible elf.

<Good enough. Thank you.> you say. <Oh, before I forget, how long do dragons live for?>
<Five centuries.> Mala responded. <At five centuries, they stop growing, their scales stop sheening, and their eyes grow yellow. At six, they die of old age.>
<How long would be safe? You'd probably say my entire lifespan is a short while.>
<Mere moments.> She said. <You would have less than half an hour.>

"How fast can you make them?" You ask Kaliel. "Do you have to do that before we start fighting?"
"I have to be on the ground, and I'll need... A minute. Maybe two." She said, her eyes still gleaming. They were almost glowing, now, and you can feel some strange tension coming from her heartbeat.
>>
I agree on no dragon mode and trying to talk, who knows whether Bel'nox really gave the name of her own free will or whether it is yet another layer of lies that tries to incriminate Theussiel, especially since he seems willing and able to unify the eastern elves.
>>

Is this heartbeat tension similar to her Passion heartbeat or is it different?
>>

I wonder if that includes the time we spent as a dragon in out home realm.

<Many thanks. Also, Kaliel's going to do some fancy fleshcrafting, if you wanted to pay attention.>

"Let's do this."
>>
"Okay." You say. "I want to make sure that it really is Theussil behind it first, but if it is, then do it. Go and grab that blood crystal, it should have plenty of power in it."
"Right away." Kaliel said... and then hesitated, and pulled you into a long, long kiss. When she pulled away, her eyes were more amber, but her heartbeat still had that strange, tension.

You glance down to your ring... and then you focus on Theussil.

<Theussil.> You say, perfectly neutrally.
<Ishelda!> He said. <Do you require my help with the dwarves? I can have my harpies in the air as soon as you need them.>
>>
>>21112481
Of course not. There's no sacrifice in out home realm. Otherwise it wouldn't have been invaded by demons and this quest wouldn't exist. Plus we probably already spent more than half an hour there.
>>
>>21112498
<I am thoughly displeased with your actions.>

This, so that it would be a surprise.

You focus on the ring harder, but it seems that since you made the ring to stop him messing with anything, it's making things difficult for the truth spell- or any other spell- from going through the connection.
<The dwarves are dealt with, don't worry.> You say. <We need to talk again, so I'm coming back to the tower.>
<I'm afraid I can't let you.> He said. <Some elf has been mind controlling my couriers and trying to use them as assassins. I'm trying to figure out which one it is, but until then, I can't let anyone in or out of my tower. I don't mean to offend, but not even you.>
>>
>>21112544
><Velk'lea, could I request your presence? Bel'nox just assaulted me and my friends.>
><I am on my way.>
>"Kal, I could have just fixed it." You say.
>"I fixed it." She responded, teeth gritted, and put on The Soul. True.
>"Is everyone okay? Where did those Daryeh come from?"
><They were waiting.> Grayson said. <Prepared. I smelled them, but didn't smell their enchantments.>
>"Should I wake her up?" Kaliel asked, rubbing her wrist. She had tears in her eyes, but was still all business.
>You nod.
>"I'll keep her tail paralyzed." She said. True.
Note how it never worked through the rings. It told us about Kal but not whether Velk was actually coming or whether the Daryeh were actually waiting.

"Okay, Aeriel, take us there." You say. "Everyone hold fire for now, but be ready."

The portal tears open as Aeriel spreads his arms, and then Ell touches the control crystal, sending Jormungandr through.

You tear out of the portal, thick Guardian golems covering the ground outside, and harpies flying in formation, whirling around the tower, all in high alert state.

<Fair enough.> He said. <I will not be alone either.>

"Ell, take us next to the second window from the top. Keep tracking those golems with the cannons just in case."
"Understood." Ell said, nodding, and Jormungandr tore through the air, until you sailed next to the window. Warily, the elven archers on the inside all wielded enormous, goldsteel greatbows, complete with a golem core in the handle of each.

"Kristoph, Kaliel." You say, and they step foward. "Aeriel, I'll need the cage."
"Fair enough."Aeriel said, and handed the orb to you- before collapsing.
<Zeke. It might be this elf, it might be a different one. Either way, you'll be knocking down a tower today.>
<My new spell... doesn't quite knock things down... but I see.> He responded.

The three of you, (four with Aeriel's orb in your pocket) hunch over and climb through the window, the elves quickly backing away, bows in hand. You sense nothing but abjuration magic in their thin, goldsteel armor, and evocation magic in their enormous greatbows. You can tell, from your unnaturally acquired golem knowledge, that the bows are similar- they're designed to suddenly, and strongly, pull taut the string, alongside the evocation magic enchanting the arrow and sending it on it's way.

"That way is the lord wizard." One of the elves say, and point to a small door in the other end of the doorway. You approach it... and knock.

"Come in." Theussil says, and you step in. Other than a golem with enormous claws on one side, and a swordself on the other- a woman, you note, glowing softly- he was sitting behind a large desk. You see runes painted all over the walls, ceiling, and ground, and you sense strong wards and evocation magic.
"Please, stand still, while I use my divination to see if any of you are enchanted. do you mind?" He asked.

"Whoever it was doesn't have a tower, because I have a list of all the names here and none of them have the skill in enchantment such control would take. They took all of my couriers- *all* of them, and they were going everywhere on the continent. So whoever it was either has an artifact that gives them extra range, or translocation, or... WHAT PART OF NO BLOOD MAGIC AT ALL EVER ARE YOU NOT UNDERSTANDING???

On top of potentially spending not only a persons life but their actual SOUL to even begin to use blood magic - it fucks with the natural order. THE SAME NATURAL ORDER THAT WE DESTROYED THE GEARWORKS TO RETURN.

If we run around using blood magic now, then we should have just used the gearworks to become all powerful and ruled the world as a totalitarian dictatorship. Because we're saying that we know better than everyone else by doing so.

NO FUCKING WITH BLOOD MAGIC.

AT ALL

>EVER
>>
>>21113972
That's not even including the fact that we gave our word to not only Azariel, but also Kaliel that we would never use blood magic.

...atallever.
>>
>>21113972
>it fucks with the natural order. THE SAME NATURAL ORDER THAT WE DESTROYED THE GEARWORKS TO RETURN
I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

>Person dies
>Soul goes to afterlife
>eventually forgets itself and becomes raw magic in the void

>Person's soul is consumed by spell
>Spell is cast
>Magic from spell goes back to the void

What's the difference?
I mean, there are so many reasons not to use blood magic. I'm just saying that's not one of them.
>>
>>21114071
Let's be honest, this dick-wizard has denied probably many people a shot in the afterlife, and if we kill him then he just gets to chill out in the afterlife. That's not cool is it? I'm against blood magic, but on dickheads who've already burnt away OTHER people's souls for a BAD reason, I think it's an OK punishment.
>>
>>21114071
Backflow is always a bad thing. You don't want shit flowing up the drain so to speak.
>>
Rolled 93

"Lord-Wizard Theusill, you stand accused of Intentional Non-Consensual Blood-Magic, Intentional Mind-Rape, Attempted Assassination of a Sovereign, and Attempting to Provoke War Between Foreign Powers. In the presense of the proof of your guilt, I hereby declare War against you, and Pronounce your soul Forfeit."
Then, use our control magic ability to tear his wards assunder, eat them, and rip his soul straight out of his body.
>>
>>21114071
Actually, this anon's got it right. It's still pretty horrible because a soul consumed into blood magic is pretty much going through intense pain the entire time, as they're still sapient at the time, but it doesn't technically go against the order of things- it just skips a step. (The step that allows souls to peacefully lose their sentience)

That said, though, blood magic doesn't use one's soul unless the blood magic kills them- first, it only uses their lifeforce, until they die, and then it uses *all* of their soulforce or whatever. Which, notably, is a bit more than a healthy being's lifeforce.
>>
>>21114098
Well, that's the death penalty argument isn't it? Some countries kill murderers saying it's the only just punishment. Others think we should be better than them. I'm sure there'll be plenty of that in the next thread so I don't want to start it now when it won't even decide anything.

>>21114112
What? Magic from spells always goes back to the void. There's just a bit extra from the soul this time. And that bit would have got there eventually anyway. Nothing's going backwards, the natural order doesn't care.
>>
>>21113875
I think we should try to get out of this without using a fate point. Fate points are valuable, and could be REALLY useful later.

I would suggest feeding Kaliel as much power as possible through the ring, then sitting back and watching as she abberates everyone and everything in the room.
