Welcome to Grimoire Quest! a tvtropes grimoire would be better edition

n this quest, you control a neophyte warlock who has just discovered a grimoire of great power. This quest does not necessarily have a single protagonist, as more than likely you will blow yourself up/get your soul eaten within the first hour of your magical flailing. But then again who knows? Perhaps you will unlock the secrets of the grimoire easily, and with lots of luck, and go on to rule this and other worlds. Progress made towards uncovering magic’s secrets will be recorded in the grimoire for use by future warlocks.

Decisions will be made by group consensus, and arbitrated by the personality traits of the current warlock. (each will have a concrete list of such traits established in their introduction).

Previously, the first protagonist of our tale was turned into a cat, the second got its head bit off by said cat, and the third has taken up the gritty survivor PI archetype in a effort to become invincible via manipulation of the settings odd magic system.
>>
>>21170728
Time to buy some more shotgun shells in the short term. We need a revolver, though, because it plays both into the PI archetype and the gritty gunslinger archetype, and both of those are survivors. Once we're somewhere safe, let's continue on that PI license. We really need it if we're to survive.
>>
Interesting, so this is whats become of the summoning grimoire thing.

Summon sprite!
>>
Previous Thread:

You are Roxie Cohan. Untill recently, you were a hipster barista with a B.A. in art history with no home but the bar you worked in. Nowadays the most significant trait about you would probably have to be the fact that you are a fucking cat.

<So? Where is the GPS saying you are> You ask Leet, your boss and fellow warlock.

You see him panning out on his smartphone map.

< Massachusetts I thi. . . Salem? really? Actually I guess that makes sense. With the way magic works being in a historically significant place with ties to witchcraft probably makes you stronger or something> He answers.

<Well I guess just try to catch a plane back?> you suggest.
>>
>>21170787
Roxie has it in the basement, but she is a cat.

Leet got summoned somewhere and doesn't know where he is. He needs to find out his location and try not to look like a madman running down the street with a shotgun.
>>
>>21170815

Forgot to actually put the previous thread by the previous thread spot.

>>
>>21170815
Ask her if she can find a teleportation spell in the grimoire or something. Some kind of portal. This is a dramatically-appropriate time to find a portal, or if not now, then in a few minutes when one of those demons is closing in on us.
>>
>>21170815
Try not to be a cat, and see if we can find a spell to summon Leet back here.
>>
>>21170856
we could always try to pact the hipster to an imp for his safe return
>>
>>21170800

Roxie both cannot summon a spryte right now due to the lack of hands to draw runes with, and has no desire to summon a Sprite due to being turned into a cat and nearly killed last time. Also last time she summoned something she ended up unleashing 3 demons in the world.

<So can you find a person summoning spell in there?> Leet asks you.

<Even if I got that lucky, which I never do, I wouldn't be able to arrange the ritual.> you reply.

<ok, I'll just let you know when I'm about to get ripped a new one by demons and then you'll probably get it>

You sigh, which comes out as a hiss.

You hear a knock at the door.
>>
>>21170917
is there a cat-height window where she could look outside? i kind of doubt it's a demon...not that shew can open the door anyway
>>
>>21170917
Meow
>>
>>21170917
Shit, let's look for a person-summoning spell again. We need Leet back here ASAP before someone busts in and steals the grimoire.
>>
>>21170917
have her find a window to look out of, if they appear non-demonic, then use the wizard search engine to find a person summoning spell
>>
>>21170996
>wizard search engine
Oh shit, this. Totally forgot about that.
>>
You check it out.

The window reaches from the floor to the ceiling so you can see out of it easily. On the otherside of the window is a man with an eyepatch, a woman in a black gown, and another woman in street cloths. You recognize the first two as a warlock and a witch from the place Leet literally just escaped. You have never seen the third one before.

<Leet they're here!>

<I can see, hide the grimoire or summon something>

<Summon an imp?! That's probably the succubus!>

<yah I guess she can teleport, or maybe the witch can, I don't know. Do something, I'll be there in a couple days unless you figure out a way to teleport me>
>>
>>21171013
yeah! she can't cast it though, so he needs a teleport spell or something
>>
>>21171022
Wizard search engine.
>>
Rolled 76

>>21170917
Or.. she could go to /a/ find a mastah, i am sure there are plenty looking for cat girls, literal cats...
----

Look for teleport spell to get leet back.
>>
>>21171022
This sounds like as good a time as any to try summoning an eldritch lord
>>
>>21171013

The idea comes to you to research spells on the internet. you scurry downstairs to where the laptop is and do your best to type with your awkward paws. God dangit why do Tor browsers have to be so damn slow.

<It would be faster if you didn't download all that shit onto my laptop> Leet points out.

<The browser IS what I downloaded asshole>

You hear the knock again. Why would they wait a whole minute just to knock again.

You find a ritual to summon a person based on longitude and lattitude.

< Alright do it now, I just got out of the gun store.>

<shells?> you ask

<shells.> he confirms.

<I don't know if I can do it>

<TRY, or at least grab the grimoire and i'll summon you. We can't let a demon get it>

You hear a knock again, are they taunting you?
What do you attempt
>>
>>21171022
push the grimwoire behind/under something so that it's hidden and then look for teleport spell on search engine until the people inevitably break in, then pretend to be a normal cat
>>
>>21171119
Try out the new ritual, I think. Oh, and hide the book.
>>
>>21171119
Have leet try to summon you with the new ritual
>>
>>21171119
>shit i was late
focus on summoning Leet, if time allows hide the book
>>
>>21171119
Summon Roxie and the grimoire to Salem. Private investigators ironically end up operating best when NOT on their home turf.
>>
>>21171119
Have Leet summon us.

Even with more shells that Succubus will probably kill our shit.
>>
>>21171158
It would be best to take out the witch now, though. She is going to cause problems if we leave her. The succubus is probably non-hostile, as I do believe she saved our asses already once.
>>
>>21171191
She did not. It was the angel that saved our asses. The succubus is quite hostile.
>>
>>21171202
Okay. But I still feel uneasy leaving the witch alone, given that she has tried to kill us once already and can teleport.
>>
>>21171174
the description for succubus says not stronger than a shotgun and we have a shotgun and the power of archetypal P.I. magic I think we can handle her
>>
>>21171233
Actually, since when do PIs get in shootouts at their own homes? Their homes are usually reserved for sleeping, and all the shooting and research and whatnot is done elsewhere.

>>21171135
I think I want to change my vote to having him summon us and the book.
>>
>>21171227
The succubus is a far, far deadlier threat.
>>
>>21171045
I can see that working in sick twisted way,
Anyways i vote for teleport the fuck out!
>>
>>21171269
A cat is fine too.
>>
>>21171255
Damn you're right, the only times that happens is in the third act when the bad guy decides he doesn't like the P.I. snooping around.
>change my vote to Leet summoning us and the book
>>
>>21171322
I actually plan to take all my ques on this guy from Demonbane, so I hope we run into a magic loli sooner or later.
>>
There is a lot of conflict among the logical part of your mind as to what the best plan is, and the indecision threatens to waste what little time you has.

Thankfully your cowardice makes the decision for you.

<I can't do it> you say.

<Ok, just stare at the ritual for a bit, I'll do it here>

You jump up to the laptop and stare at the screen, watching him write the runes on a concrete ground with some kind of marker. He is in a ally, semi-public. You hope no-one sees.

You hear footsteps down the stairs. How did they get in without making a sound? The door was locked!

<Leet. . .>

<Shut up I'm working>

you curl up on top of the grimoire, sink your claws into its cover, and feign sleep.

"There it is," You hear a cold voice purr. "Eleraim's Grimoire. The cat has good tasts." The speaker laughs and the hair stands up all across your body.

"Ha, I scar. . ." the air shatters around you.

You are laying before Leet, who appears to have armed himself with a new double barrel shotgun and a thick overcoat.

"Finally, jesus christ." He says, scooping down to pick up the tome.
>>
>>21171284
I know....

OK now cast shroud spell !
>>
>>21171332
Is the shotgun side-by-side or over-under? Anyway, we'll be needing to find a spell to mask us from scrying and other locating spells soon. We'll probably figure one out near the end of Act I, when shit starts getting realer. Until then, let's find an internet connection somewhere, get on scryorb, and try to find a way to fix Roxie. A second set of reliable hands would be profoundly useful right now.
>>
>>21171332
first order of business, get that P.I. licence
>>
>>21171332
Haha, this is crazy.

I wonder if the Noir Detective archetype is actually working.
>>
>>21171376
According to the last thread, that's about a week away at the soonest.
>>
>>21171382
Of course it will. The alternative, of course, is death.
>>
>>21171382
We would have certainly died in the basement had we lacked it.
>>
>>21171390
good point, until then let's work on magicking up the boomstick and masking our presence, i think Roxie works better as an incognito helper than as a human
>>
You are Erik Leet. Former small business owner, current P.I. and neophyte warlock.

"Now what?" you ask the cat at your feet.

<Go back home I guess>

"they will be waiting for us don't you think?"

<Maybe, but they also just teleported to us across the states, they may be able to follow teleports or something.>

"yah, another good question is where is the other demon that was with the succubus."

<you think it's following you>

You look over your shoulder, half expecting to see it.

"Yup."

<allright. . . pick me up, lets go.>

". . . What?"

<pick me up, have you seen how short my legs are? if we are going to walk all the way across town to find some hotel or whatever to set up shop I'm going to need to be carried. If your scared for your masculinity consider it offset by the shotgun in your other arm.>

You sigh, and pick her up.

Where to go. . .
>>
>>21171424
I'm not so sure. If she had hands, that would surely be most useful. I'm hoping for a spell that lets her shift between human and cat as she pleases. That would be an ideal scenario, since she would retain the 'nine lives' advantage from her feline archetype. That way both Leet and Roxie would have survivor archetypes.
>>
>>21171443
Literally anywhere with free high-speed wifi for the smartphone. Somewhere that lets you take pets into the hotel room or shop, ideally.
>>
>>21171443
How much money do we have? If possible, a decent hotel would be good, and then we should do some research.
>>
>>21171443
Where do we actually live? Not in the cafe we own, right?

Anyway, it will take a while to get back home, by the time we're there, they might have left already. Lets go back.
>>
>>21171454
good point, also kudos on the magic system OP, i really enjoy it
>>21171443
roach motel with free wifi
>>
We are currently suspicious as hell. If we want to fly back, we need a case for the gun and a carrier for the cat. Otherwise we need to appropriate a car or something.
>>
>>21171613
Magical PI in witch country, and you want us to go back home, a home probably laden with magical death traps to boot?
>>
>>21171613
>>21171623
I vote to shroud spell to mask our presence and leave the country.
>>
Your assets are dependent on your small business, Leet's, the bar you own in Tampa Florida. You basically randomly closed today without explanation due to your entire world being turned on its head, but if you want to not go broke you are going to need to manage it. You can't even call people in to cover for you with all the shit in the cellar right now, and the possibility that the place is a demon hangout now.

You sigh.

If you just remove all your funds from the bar though you'll be sitting on quite a bit.

you decide to stay at a motel at least one night before heading home. Making sure to pick a place with good wifi.

<any masking spells yet> Roxie asks.

You flip through the book. "No, damn thing isn't giving me anything."

<I can't find any polymorph magic online. All I see are recommendations to summon a Spryte if you want a poly effect, and there's no way in hell i'm doing that>

"you sure?" you ask

<Well. . . I don't know, what do you think?>
>>
>>21171647
No, we need to set up base here. This is the best place to be short of R'lyeh.
>>
>>21171647
We'll need a shroud spell for that, and we won't get one until we're tracked down at least once more, according to the rules of magic, since that next time will be the third time.
>>
>>21171661
I vote we summon another sprite and prepare to sell off the bar.
>>
>>21171661
Let's go for it, but only if we're seriously confident when it comes to containment procedures. Do the equivalent of taking 20, if need be.
>>
>>21171692
Taking twenty implies several failures before success. You can't do that when failure could have dire consequences.
>>
>>21171661
look for a way to make our weapons more effective against magicy shit and then summon a sprite to turn Roxxie into a were-house cat
>>
>>21171692
Or we could just wing it.
>Catgirl familiar time go!
>>
>>21171661
Summon a Spryte. Physically secure the Grimoire beforehand by locking it in a drawer or putting something heavy on top of it.
>>
<Alright, we are going to have to go outside though. Can't draw on the motel carpet>

You head out to a empty lot behind the hotel, you take out the grimoire and and do all the necessary procedures before then hiding it under a dumpster.

You chant to summon a Spryte.

The air above the runes shatters, leaving behind a technicolor plane of alternate reality. It crumples closed quickly, leaving a foot high humanoid female with dragonfly wings in its wake.

"I. . .Wha. . . Are you a warlock!" It asks, slowly gaining excitement.

"A man warlock! Wow I never thought. . ." She suddenly seems overtaken by sadness. "y. . . you dont even have a hat. . . No one will take me seriously now. . ."

The spryte is bound to the circle and cannot return home without your consent.

>>
>>21171985
can you turn this cat into a catgirl?
>>
>>21171985
Being summoned by a warlock without a cool hat. How embarrassing.
Tell her we'll fashion a hat and put it on if she'll "return this cat to the exact form she had before she was a cat".
Also tell her that if she can make it so that Roxxie can switch back and forth at will, we may sweeten the deal.
Bargaining has to begin somewhere.
>>
>>21171985
Promise to get a hat if she works for you. Fairy familiar get.
>>
>>21172045
And then we get a proper fedora
>>
>>21172084
It is traditional PI headwear.
>>
>>21172045
Promise to pay her in sugar.
The small fae like sugar, right?
Put on hat and release her back to her realm for undoing Roxxie's affliction.
Some sugar plus the former if she can switch back and forth at will.
A regular supply of sugar and every other Tuesday off if she becomes our familiar.
And we get a Fedora regardless.
>>
>>21172128
Probably should not start making odd deals like that. Start light and see how far it goes. Hell, maybe she hates sugar and that will offend her.
>>
I glanced at the OP's name and thought Deity Quest had returned. Oh well.
>>
>>21172176
I thought the same at first. Oh well.
>>
>>21172146
Well, we should ask her what she likes, first, that's a good point.
I still think we should make similar offers, though, at least in regards to what we get out of them. What we offer can change based on what she wants.
>>
" I will put on a hat and send you home if you transform this cat back into a human woman."

"WOman? Is that like a subspecies of man?" the Spryte asks, genuinely confused,

<OK! Whats the fucking deal with you fairies and thinking men are the representatives for our whole race. . .>

"Roxie. . ."

<I mean, over half the freaking population is female, and in fact we are more crucial to the species then men! I get that. . .>

"Roxie shut up." You interrupt.

The Spryte seems quite flustered. "um. . . I'm sorry I think?"

"It is basically like me, but with your anatomy." You tell the Spryte.

<And without wings!>

"and without wings" You agree.

"but. . . why wouldnt she want wings" The Spryte aks.

"look. . . Can you just undo a polymorph cast on her by another Spryte?"

"Not unless that Spryte wanted me to! Which is really silly cause then that Spryte would just do it herself rather than ask me to." she answers.

<JUST MAKE ME A HUMAN GIRL> shouts Roxie.

"but then you would have wings and. . . I want to see the hat first."

<for fucks sake, I'd rather just deal with a demon>

You try to think of better wording for your demand. Also, it seems you need a hat. Perhaps a pact is in order so that you aren't standing out here in the open with a fairy for a few hours while you buy a fedora?

If you wish to enter a pact, just say so and write the pact, along with a d100 roll to gain priority over other wordings

>>

Just use the same terms for this pact that we used with the imp when giving it the list of musts and mustn'ts.
>>
>>21172247
Roxie doesn't want wings, that wouldn't be nice.
Ask what the Spryte likes, what she wants. Get to know her so we can make an informed deal that maximizes both of our gains.

Pact:

Spryte will make honest, concerted attempt to polymorph Roxie (currently in the form of a cat) back into a human female. In exchange, Leet will acquire and don a hat prior to dismissing Spryte back from whence she came.

Along with the standard pact boilerplate about not lying or hurting eachother.
>>
>>21172278

You will prephrase your pact with that same list of preemptives just to be safe.
>>
>>21172294
Don't ask that, this quest runs on narrative causality so asking will show us how wrong things can go.
>>
>>21172277
My reasoning for this is, if she ends up back in the wyld, we could get a reputation as a nice warlock who's good to the fae he summons.
That would make future bargaining and dealings with sprytes easier, because they may not be so intent on fucking with us.

"The Pact is accepted!" the Spryte shouts happily. Moving from her circle and floating directly onto roxie, mounting her like a horse.

<the last encounter i had with a spryte ended with me biting its head off>

"Why did you do that? Was she trying to kill you? hex you? curse you? summon you? eat you? rule you? sex you? speak to you? harm you? trap you? inconvenience you? lie to y. . ."

you grab the Spryte lightly and set her in a inside pocket of your overcoat before Roxie kills are gets killed by her.

Too late. Some idiot just send home our chance at binding a magical being to our side while we try to evade a full fledged witch, succubus, and unknown number of servants and allies teleporting across the country in search of our head.
>>
>>21172388
On the plus side, once we have a fedora, we'll be even more in line with the archetype and therefore one step closer to unkillable.
>>
Rolled 6

>>21172419
Why not a pimp hat? I'm rolling for it!
>>
>>21172388
We should tell Roxie to quit antagonizing the spryties. It's best to just play along with their antics so we stay on their good side.

>>21172408
I'd say sprytes are too unstable to keep around for any significant period of time, it's too likely they'll get bored and do something stupid and dangerous.
>>
>>21172429
Fuck....
>>
>>21172429
Because pimps get killed all the time. We need a survivor archetype, not just a nice hat. The way we dress, the titles we hold, the way we act, these are all fundamental aspects of the way magic works in this setting. We need to BE the noir detective. That will guarantee we survive past the third act, to matter how battered and bruised we get along the way.
>>
>>21172429
Fedora is more thematically appropriate, so we could fool the world into assigning us a major archetype with it.

>>21172433
None of them are going to serve us well unless we rope them into a good contract, which is what we had a chance to do.
>>
>>21172433
>I'd say sprytes are too unstable to keep around for any significant period of time, it's too likely they'll get bored and do something stupid and dangerous.

But Leet hasn't. He doesn't have any magical shit to work with here. And we need some magical shit in order to combat warlocks.
>>
>>21172491
Unless it tries to kill us for infringing on the territory of god or destroy the grimoire and leave us vulnerable to the people after our head.
>>
>>21172491
>Reminds me of the Avatars in Unknown Armies.
Precisely. That's how magic works in this setting. The only reason the spells work is because someone built a warlock archetype and then penned some nonsense that worked because someone with the warlock archetype penned it.
>>
>>21172497
Just read the first thread.
>>
Don't female bookish sidekicks live the longest? For sidekicks, that is.
We need to get Roxie to act a bit more like that, so she doesn't die.
>>
>>21172497
The short answer is that magic works by following themes. We're going for the private eye archetype as they tend to survive just about anything. So we need to look, act, and think like a stereotypical private eye.
>>
>>21172531
She is a cat at the moment, which gives her phenomonal luck and several lives. Turning her back into a normal human is going to put her into a very dangerous situation, and as she is a liberal arts college student and apparently feminist is not going to play along with that.

The archetype is a base line. We are using it to give us a chance because this guy is a random bar owner. But that does not mean your are bound to the archetype either. That does not mean the villain has to fail. Especially a villain protagonist. Which brings me to my next point; if this guy dies, I vote we have the next one pronounce himself king of the world.
>>
Thirty minutes and a thousand explanations of why you need to either stay in the pocket or wait outside later you have a fedora.

You head back to a relatively secluded spot and allow the Spryte to watch you don it with great aplomb.

"YAY! The Spryte exclaims happily. "Now it is my turn to make honest, concerted attempt to polymorph Roxie (currently in the form of a cat) back into a human female!" Her voice is suddenly serious "Do I have your consent mortal?"

<Uhm. . . Yes?>

"YAY! ok Roxie I want to to image what you looked like before very hard. We are going to do this together ok?"

<That. . . Is actually very comforting> Roxie answers.

"GREAT!"

The light seems to increase around the three of you. You almost feel lighter, and the air seems to refract colors it shouldn't.

Roxie turns transparent, then shifts into the form of the pixie, then grows about four and a half feet, then assumes the facial structure, hair color etc. . . that you knew from before all this. About half way through you also take off you overcoat and hold it up near her, realizing the odds were good she was going to be naked. When you throw it over where you assume her to be after the magic fades, however, she quickly throws it off revealing herself to be wearing a much larger version of the Spryte's armor/dress. She still has wings.

"I. . . Wait no you. . . " She seems dizzy.

"GREAT! be sure to duck in 12 seconds or else be Erinyes practice! 8 seconds now! Bye!" She disappears.

you begin scanning the area around you, shotgun ready, but see nothing.

We don't have enough setup pieces for that because we don't have any crazy combat skills. We drink too much, lack just enough self control to get into trouble, and had a marriage ended by our vices. We work in a bar and advertise as a private investigator, and will have a license therein by the end of the week. We're pretty much solidly in 'noir detective' territory, which is great because those guys survive ANYTHING, no matter how painful. At this point, we just need to keep reinforcing that archetype.

You see no thread. You aren't sure Sprytes can actually see the future, and if they can you are fairly sure warning you about it invalidates it or something.

But damn if you didn't begin counting down the seconds the moment she said it. And without a moments hesitation you tackle Roxie to the ground at 0 seconds, as you weren't really sure who the Spryte was talking to.

You feel the heat of the sun off your back for a brief second as something human sized flies overhead.

You roll off Roxie, shotgun readied, and scan for your target. You don't like the idea of firing this loud weapon outdoors in a city, but no way in hell your fighting that thing without it.

You don't see the shadow, you feel it. The slight coolness on your back as the winged creature swoops in from behind you.

You lay flat and bring the shotgun up horizontal, deflecting the sword but causing the blade to slide across the smooth barrel right into your right hand, where it digs inches into your pall before sliding out.

You cry out in pain as you bring the barrel around to point at where you know the momentum of her swoop will take her, and fire. A cloud of black feathers appears where she was and a loud thud shakes the ground a few meters ahead of you.

Noir detective for the win. We get banged up, but we survive. Anyway, interrogate her, then kill her when she inevitably tries to backstab us during the questioning. We intended to be merciful, but it's clearly not an option. That's how this plays out for our archetype, right?

You consider using magic or trying to club her with the weapon, but decide to go with just shooting her again. You struggle the butt of the shotgun against your left shoulder and grip the trigger with your left hand. You rest the barrel on your forearm and. . .

The Erinyes knocks the barrel away from her with her sword. Both of your weapons are now overextended, but you can see her other clawed hand moving for your face. Cold fear races down your spine as you remember what the succubus did to that warlock, stabbing the eye. You know you wont be able to exert enough force with your right hand to push the blow away.

so you step in and headbut her in the nose. Her thumb slips into your mouth and she gets a grip on your cheek. You lean back as much as she lets you and headbut her again, both of you falling to the concrete floor. You hear somthing metal hit the ground near you and to your left. You grasp it with your left hand and stab the sword into the Erinyes' flank. The claw comes loose from your cheek, taking a nasty bit of meat with it, and falls limp to the ground.

Next time you remember not to treat these things like humans. Shoot till they die. kill them as quickly as possible. Use magic if you have to, catching your hand on fire sucks in the long-run but it it gives you a edge in a brawl with one of these monsters do it.

you roll off the Erinyes and feel your cheek. That's going to leave a bad scar. . .

Perfect. . .

You sit up, leaning on your good hand. Roxie looks hurt, maybe you tackled her to hard. The way she is curled up brings "broken rib" to mind. You wonder if her new flight ability came at the cost of bone density.

You laugh out loud at the though, this magic that makes almost no logical sense deciding to just this once do what's a little tiny bit more logical just to fuck you over.

You drag the grimoire over and see what you got.

Well my idea was to turn the next character we got into king of the world, so hopefully we can suduce her. I knew I would regret this.

We throw a die decide what to summon. One is an Imp, two is aSpryte abd so on.

On another note I leave the last thread thinking the next one would start with us summoning Celestials and goping demonhunting. Intstead of a Celestial inclined to help us we summon a fucking spryte to heal the fucking hipstercat, turn her into a giant pixie and almost kill her, get almost killed ourselves and now a hobo has the insanely powerful grimoire. Fan-fucking-tastic.

Welp.

>>21174011
And thus, we have a Queen Fae on our hands.

But we are only too willing to obey her. She is beautiful while we are only a useless welp.
>>
>>21174032
Well at least you agreed that summoning a fae to rule the world was a good idea.
>>
>>21174011
Well Ted was a fun owner. Who's next?
>>
>>21174011
Fuck if it had been for a Spryte we could have just solved our hobo problem in the best way ever.

Instead we have the new bitch queen of the universe to deal with.
>>
>>21174045
Speak for yourself. We will try our damnedest to to seduce her, and when that fails, wait for the best chance to shoot her in the fucking face. Nobody takes my world away from me.

>>21174011
Well fuck.

At least there now are two supernatural forces that want to rule the world and can combat each other.
Three if you count the third Erinye.

>>21174062
We cant be trusted with a dangerous weapon, not while it is loaded.

We can only obey.

>>21174078
He clearly has a much better understanding of magic than the other two people we got, so there is a chance here.

ONLY ONE WAY TO SOLVE THIS

did you honestly expect something other than SUMMON AN ELDRITCH LORD?

Which is why Our New Queen will spare us rather than kill us on the spot!

Oh, we will feel the Queen's Embrace. And we will enjoy it.

It isnt servitude, it is a Loving Embrace.

Your not-so-clever wording will not fool anyone here.

You decide not to bother with the summoning circle. It seems tedious, you just do the chant and a little jig around a circle of soda cans.

The air stiffens around the soda cans, and slowly condenses into a beautiful woman with fairy wings and. . . Hm you wander if she is related to that other girl. . . a magnificent dress.

"Greetings!" You proclaim "I am Sours, Arch-Magus of Earth. Have you great in the oceanic girth of none who hath value?"

"Why, I verily doesith vouch these tides for the great widening, renouncing the not." She replies happily. "and I am Mae, queen of the Fey"

You stare at her mouth agape for a moment. She just rhymed. . . Excellent.

"such royalty surely minisculicates all others of our realms?" You ask.

"Not without reason or doubt, only oblivious to both."

This goes on for some time, neither party showing signs of intending to stop.

"Anyway, I wish to be the Arch-Magus of earth now." Mae states

"AND the queen!?" you ask, outraged.

"And more, I should think. Now relinquish your title."

The circle of cans is still nearby, and you shall not tolerate this transgression

Well it is not as though we can make this any worse. The conversation is getting very far away from us, summon an eldritch lord.

Who better to summon an eldritch lord than a schizophrenic hobo?!
>>
>>21174190
According to Nasu, a homeless serial killer is the best possible person to summon an eldritch abomination, and I will take his word on this one.
>>
Eldritch Lord it is, you think to yourself.

You begin the chant an. . .

A bolt of lightning descends from the sunny sky and smites you to the ground, charred and in shock.

"Now that would just be stupid" The Fae declares, stepping over your body.

"GASP! A HERO!!! How delightful! YAY!" is the last thing you hear before blacking out.
>>
>>21174158
"It's not the place for you. The CIA spooks are out and I can hear their mind rotting tv radiation on my teeth. You are not going to be muchly impressed by this world. Best to make like a jabberwocky and snicker snack."

We will have our hobo/eldritch lord tag-team conquer the world eventually. At least if he survives this travesty.

You are Erik Leet.

You wake up inside some kind of fancy ballroom. You are sitting in a expensive, plush chair and across from you stares a elf-like woman with fairy wings. You think you remember the word "Fae" from the grimoire.

"Uh. . . look if you are looking for the warlock with the grimoire I. . ."

"Oh I already know you aren't one of those!" She interrupts.

"You. . . Do?"

"But of course!" She stands with flourish "A warlock is someone who appeals to the mind of magic with esoteria, mysticism, and . . . um. . . other stuff too! You don't do that at all, at least not very effectively, you demand the attention and service of magic by your mere existence! It is part of your personality! you don't appeal to archetypes, you ARE one! And your the best one!!!!! A HERO!!!!"

She seems very worked up about all of this. You wouldn't have guessed the immortal godlike being would act like a fangirl over a little mortal.

"Well, only as much as you fawn over any fictional character. they are infinitly beneath you, being unreal while you are real, yet you still admire and look up to them for abstract traits they possess, you still find it fun to watch them.

Great, she can read your mind,

"Yes, it is GREAT! isn't it!"
>>
>>21174215
wait, what happened?
>>
>>21174391
She blasted us with lightning magic, and the bar owner's mind is open book.
>>
>>21174388

As the guy who first suggested 'hipster barista with a B.A. in Art History and disappointed parents' while envisioning a bearded dude in a flannel shirt, 13 and a half hours ago, I commend your writing and stamina and wish you a good evening.
>>
"Do you know what happened to my companion? .. .A girl... with wings and armor?"
>>
>>21174388
Well if we really are a hero, we've got a friend back in Salem with a critical injury that needs medical attention and would very much appreciated being allowed to see to that.
>>
>>21174388
Where's Roxie?
>>
>>21174388
The most important thing to do with a mind reader is not to think. Think about nothing. If you cannot think about nothing, then think as fast as you can so your thoughts overlap eachother into an incomprehensible blur. Whatever you do, never let her know when you go to stab her. But you have to stab mind readers, it is a law of nature.
>>
We really need to make sure that if we're going to betray her that it's spontaneous and not planned. But, we don't want to think about how we'll betray her given the opportunity
>>
Rolled 54

>>21174433
I don't think this will work, considering I'm pretty sure she has changed ourselves into a HERO archetype now. At least, all of our actions so far have lead up to it, in our thoughts, unless we decide that we don't think we are a hero, we are just trying to survive.
>>
>>21174433
Dude we have an insanely powerful fangirl. It's great. Stabbing her will ruin that and get us killed.
>>
>>21174413
this.
>>
>>21174413

"The warlock with the grimoire? Well I suppose she doesn't 'have' the grimoire right now. You do of course, but she is the most equiped to use it. Magically at least. Psychologically she quite the mess at times. Though not so much as that other man. Trying to summon Azrilhot. Idiot. Oh right, yes she is fine. I figured she was a member of your party and thus brought her with you. She is asleep. I think"
>>
Wait, aren't we the thoughts of the grimoire owner?
Hi fairy lady!

But yeah, companion is important. Ask about Roxie first.
>>
>>21174474
Roxie is the warlock?

Makes sense, she found it first and all.
>>
>>21174459
She can read your mind. Unless she goes full on yandere, we have to get rid of her. And if she does, the cat will die, which will probably make you guys unhappy.

>>21174456
How will it not work?

>>21174474
But setting all that aside, try and figure out what she is planning. If she is just planning on some sort of observer situation, then we can probably trust her to not make problems.
>>
Rolled 42

>>21174475
pretty much, so when we get the opportunity, we can't talk abuot it, we have to have a unanimous immediate vote on killing her so that she can't detect it.

"Hi!"

you wander who she was talking to.

"haha, of course you do!"

By you just now stating it, she already knows the plan, you could consider us, the mind for Leet, so by even talking about it she knows.
>>
>>21174474
So... you think I'm fun to watch? You going to follow me around?
>>
>>21174515
I do not think that was what you were getting at at all. This hero archetype you mentioned in that other post has nothing to do with what you are arguing in this post.

>>21174515
Needs moar meta.
>>
>>21174499
Well. Shit. Demon Attack inbound.
Ask what's going on.
>>
>>21174490
Why do we have to get rid of her? She's on our side. Randomly trying to kill somebody who's done no harm will ruin our archetype and get us killed by her because she's more powerful than us anyway.
>>
>>21174525

"No, well yes technically unless you leave earth. But this is my domain now and thus so long as you are here I am with you!"
>>
>>21174499
Take a step back from the 4th wall and get back to heroing

What does she want us to do?
>>
She can read our mind, but can she read our spoilers! HAHA! What now, Fey mind-reading lady thing!?!
>>
>>21174499
Seriously, what is she planning? If she recognizes this one's position as the protagonist, whether we do or not, she will probably not start a fight, but I think we should try and make sure.

>>21174549
She is a mind reader and took over the world I was living on and planning on, more than good enough reason to get to stabbing whenever it comes out.
>>
Rolled 21

>>21174527
Yeah, was my fault there. That should have been on a different line as a separate thought. I was just stating afterwards though that if we also take into the consideration of us having a changed archetype, that line of thought probably wouldn't work, I'm for keeping the PI archetype but we need to keep in our minds we are just trying to survive for now to stop her from changing our archetype
>>
>>21174596
Who said she changed our archetype? She accused this one of being a hero archetype, which if it was a thing would have been in place before meeting with her.
>>
>>21174561

"I don't really want you to do anything right now. I just like having you. In case of emergency break glass for hero. heehee! You have no idea how hard of a counter you are for high tier wizards and warlocks. They can be so bothersome with their circles and whatnot. hm. . . "

she wrinkles her brow as though confused and annoyed by something.
>>
>>21174611
Inquire as to current location and location of assistant. Hopefully she did not kill the hobo.
>>
>>21174611
My companion was quite injured last I saw her. I tried to heal her but I think I made it worse. Is there anything you could do for her?
>>
The hobo needs to become our deranged mystical researcher who never sees the front lines.
>>
>>21174637
Still planning on having him bro it up with some non-Euclidean abomination from beyond the stars, I hope. I sure am.
>>
Okay. I've been thinking. We have no reason to turn on the fey. We might as well befriend her because there's no way she makes it through the story based on her archetype. The psycho pretty much never lives. So let's just put up with her and make the most of her until she inevitably eats it. Only real thing, we can't fall for her because then she falls into the love interest category which would considerably up her chances of surviving.
>>
>>21174620
>>21174630

"Oh she is fine now. Better than ever. Or, actually better than ever save for the 12 whole seconds she got to enjoy being part spryte before you crushed her rib cage."

You are starting to feel a bit panicked, you need to get out of here somehow.

"and what do you want from her?"

"Oh nothing, just to keep you company I guess, every hero needs a party after all."
>>
Rolled 71

>>21174610
That's why we have to fight against that archetype by keeping in our heads that we are just scraping by, just surviving, and that's what we will do. We aren't in it for glory, saving the world, or any kind of esoteric concept related to being a hero, by her simply stating it, it becomes very easy to fall into it.
>>
>>21174664
Better go find her and - actually, where the hell are we? And we still have to sell of the bar, somehow.
>>
>>21174660
>We have no reason to turn on the fey
not like we could, since she was reading our mind.

...We should totally start thinking in classic noir detective narration style
>>
>>21174660
She's not psycho, though. She's just strange and lively.
Which puts her in true immortal teir as a female ruler.
>>
>>21174687
Which is exactly the problem. Ruler.
>>
>>21174666
If we were in it for glory we wouldn't be a hero, we'd be an asshole.

We were in it to survive and generally be an alright guy, which sort of forces us into the hero role once the stakes get high.
>>
Rolled 65

>>21174664
Okay, well, don't you think to be a better hero, it would be best if you taught me to bloody use magic? I can't exactly do the HERO stuff without being able to be a hero. Also, I had a trusty weapon of mine that happens to be misplaced, any idea where it might be?
>>
>>21174692
Uh, remember:
Even before she was summoned, she was the Fae Queen.

Idk when I'll be able to go again, probably this weekend though, and certainly no further away than next wednessday.

Thank you very much for playing, great job dealing with all the bullshit this setting has to offer, and goodluck dealing this the exponentially raising levels you are beginning to experience.
>>
>>21174711
So clearly, to avoid the hero role, something has to chance. Suicide is out, and by this point there is no getting around the high stakes. We just have to act like a normal guy, then. Do whatever for the hell of it.

>>21174728
Nope, just a fae. She only called herself a queen because somebody got a horrible roll.

We summoned a fae. Any fae. Now she wants to take over the planet. She wants to take it from us. Do you not see the problem with that.
>>
>>21174845
Or live happily ever after.

A lot of detectives end up gutshot and bleeding out in noir stories too, so it seems like six of one and half a dozen of the other.

We may as well just roll with it and try not to annoy the smite-Queen
>>
>>21174881
No.
>this is my domain now
She thinks she has taken over the planet. She is incredibly childish and has no interest in politics and shit. She will not do anything unless somebody directly opposes her 'authority'.
>>
>>21174907
Maybe. She still has to die, and if she does so wile trying to fight the UN or something, all the better.
>>
>>21174923
Or she can keep pretending to be queen of da earf for a while. She hasn't hurt anyone except a hobo who was about to doom the entire planet.
>>
>>21174947
You cannot prove that, and I refuse to let a mind reader who has our contact info and claimed my planet get away.
>>
>>21174881
>she wants to take it from us
When the fuck did we become king of the planet?
>>
>>21174975

>>
>>21174957
you are the shittiest hero/noir detective and you are going to get us killed.
>>
>>21174992
Arguable, and you cannot prove that either.
>>
The big thing is ms Fae decided to rule earth at most an hour or something ago.
All we know is she wants to rule earth and didn't let a hobo summon a (possible) terrible evil.
Also she's healing us and our friend.

So yeah.
>>
>>21175128
So, for now, she's in the 'patron of the hero' archetype. If she leaves that archetype, that's almost certain death for her. After all, you know what happens when a patron betrays the hero. For now, based on how magic works in this setting, it can be assumed she won't do anything mental.
>>
>>21178813
I'd also imagine that she'd like for her new realm to remain relatively intact.
Why else bother to acquire it?
>>
>>21179288
True that. Regardless, if she takes a stance counter to the hero, she's bound to die by our weapon by the end of Act II. Patrons-turned-villain almost never survive to Act III, unless they're the 'main villain' and had been acting against the protagonist all along in the background during Act I. Since we're nearing the end of Act I by the looks of it, though, I seriously doubt that's the case.
