We are Ned Salter, young, ambitious, and recently graduated from business school. Having landed a job as a manager in the XWF (Extreme Warfare Federation), our first client was Mr. Rob Wolfside, aka The Brass Reaper, an aged, former champ currently consumed by his drug problems and low self-image issues. We took Brass and put him through an intensive detox and workout program, getting him back on his feet and cleaned up.

We helped Brass get back on his feet, and he showed the qualities that made him a champion in both the Gold and Omega divisions of the XWF. Having already seen him win two matches in a row, we are about to witness his long-time friend, Python, face against Kali, a female fighter with the ability to create weapons out of nowhere and a taste for breaking bones, just as fighters from the human leagues may pick up chair, stairs and other objects from beneath the ring.

Previous threads here

I´m gonna go get some breakfast while our regulars show up. Feel free to check the previous threads (the 3rd thread isint that exciting. Mostly we just discussed how to spend the exp we had) meanwhile

Here´s Python´s chart after his training
>>
>>21191125
Ah, im back! typing now!
>>
Likely have to leave partway through again, but them's the breaks.

Could we get a runthrough of Python's abilities and general tactics? I'd expect he'd also have some old moves from back in the day, and he wouldn't have the same bonuses as Brass. What's his multiattack look like, for starters?

Also, does dormancy mean Python can only revert to a single all-out combat form, or does it allow him to pull out progressively more and more body enhancements, such that in a hypothetical future fight, we could opt to start with four arms, but pop out increasing numbers as dramatically appropriate as the fight drags on?
this isn't even my final form!
>>
>>21191125
Python: Expert Boxer, he gets a greater reduction to multiple actions that Brass, so long as all those actions are punching. He also has the ability to cut multiple actions penalties by 1/2 (rounded down) but he only rolls 4 dice with difficulty +1, or 3 dice with difficulty +0

His punches have a 19 attack roll on their own, so multiattacking would look like this
Normal one-two would be 17/16
With penalty reduction it would be 18/17
With his boxing bonus it would be 19/18
With his ambidexterity bonus it is 20/19
Notice that his multiple attacks (or his Jabs if you want to get technical) are actually HIGHER than using a single attack, for him

He also has a very high defense thanks to his footwork, with a 19d10 roll to dodge attacks, but he cant set up countergrabs like Brass can.

Also, he has a bonus +3 dice to try to escaping grabs and holds thanks to his flexible limbs, and gains a +5 to damage on multiple punches (but only on punches)

He has no special "powers". He doesnt flies, transforms, shoots fire out of his ass or anything like that.

His special is the Python´s Coils. If he grabs someone, that someone starts losing 1 willpower per round until he faints or gives up

His "finisher" (I actually never named it) is a mix of hyperspeed and punches, as he runs at 500 miles per hour next to his opponent and slams him on the neck with an arm. Like most finishers, he needs to spend a willpower point and spend a turn setting it up

Anyway, take your time. I seem to be the only one here as of yet, so we've still got a bit before others start coming in. Though we might want to keep this bumped so regulars (or newcomers!) don't miss it; I only saw it because I happened to be browsing page 2.

Actually I found a power that is 1/2 way between body modification and shapeshifting, that lets you get the bonuses from body mod for a little while, so he could indeed grow more arms only when needed (or gills, or wings, or claws, or fins, whatever)

It costs 6 exp, but the number of things you can get depends on your successes on a roll when you activate it, while body mods are always on and dont cost points to use and dont need to be activated.

There IS a deeper dormancy, but what it does is hide your quantum signature so airport security devices to detect novas (in this setting, they exist) and such dont detect you
>>
>>21191216
Body Shift
A variant of Shapeshift, this power allows
the nova to alter their physical body within certain limits.
Each success on a Stamina+ Body Shift roll allows the nova to manifest a body modification for one success each or Physical Mega-Attribute enhancement for two successes each. For body modifications or enhancements that can be taken multiple times, the number of times is limited to the nova’s dots of Body Shift.

However however however, this means that if we buy the power once (6exp) he could only grow one arm, but for every 2 successes he could also take stuff like improved hyper speed or other "minor" superpowers based on mega strength/dexterity/stamina

However keeping this powers and/or extra body parts would eat 2 quantum points per turn.
He has a "quantum pool" of 28, jsyk
>>
Also, I added some stuff to the online excel sheet, and realized Mai had mega charisma but no enhancements on it whatsoever, not even the free one you get for having a point of mega something.

This means that for example if any of our fighters buys a point of, say, mega intelligence, they get a free "minor superpower" related to intelligence.

Anyway, those minor superpowers are called "enhancements" and she got the following, because I thought they were hilarious and I could totally see her selling training videos

Bestial Rapport / Manipulation / cost 0
Most Mega-Charismatic novas tend to focus on influencing other people, but a few have learned how to use their superhuman force
of personality on a more feral level. Mai can swim with hungry tiger sharks, stalk through the Amazon rain forest with a jaguar, or
fish for salmon with Kodiak grizzly bears without any concerns about her safety. This also makes her an excellent animal trainer and
can handle domestic pets, livestock, and wild animals with equal ease.
System:Mai can instantly befriend and communicate (via body language and sounds) with any animals she might encounter.
Animals will regard her as a friend and boon companion unless she does something to prove otherwise. They won't harm her, and they
will seek to prevent others from harming her as well. If Mai has any dots in the Animal Mastery power (Aberrant core book, pp. 182-183), she can communicate with animals without having to roll. This enhancement also grants Mai 3 automatic successes on all rolls
for the Animal Training ability (Aberrant Player's Guide, pg. 90). This enhancement is always in effect and costs no quantum points to
activate

I just thought it would be funny to have her trained hawk go buy her newspaper every morning, and have her dogs be trained to clean the house.
>>
>>21191276
If we ever decide to get Ned some training, this should be useful. Also I think from time to time as a random event, she could get "booked" for a month or more to train some special forces or so

Drill Sergeant / Charisma / 3 Quantum points per day
With time and effort, you can train even the most typical person on the street into a crack soldier.
System:You may supervise the training of up to ([Charisma + Mega-Charisma + Command] x 10) recruits in a given month
(see “Henchmen”, Aberrant Core Book p. 282). Recruits trained for one or more months by you should be treated as elite soldiers. In
game terms they are well-disciplined, have ratings of at least 3 in the relevant combat Abilities, at least one specialty, Willpower
ratings of at least 5 and at least one Physical Attribute at 3. Soldiers who’ve had competent prior training or those trained by the
you for more than one month can develop still higher ratings. In all cases, the Storyteller has the final say on what areas the soldiers
gain improved ratings in, and how much they can be improved. Novas (or any other variety of Inspired beings) cannot benefit from
the training provided by means of this enhancement. Using this enhancement costs 3 quantum points per day of training the recruits,
and the effect on the recruits is permanent
>>
>runs at 500 miles per hour next to his opponent and slams him on the neck with an arm.
So, basically a supersonic lariat?

And I was more asking if we could get multiple stages of concealment somehow on body modifications we'd already bought (since they don't have any upkeep). Because deciding to "get serious" and go one-winged angel partway through the fight would look cool and presumably add flair.
>>
>>21191286
And finally

Screen Presence / Charisma / 0 cost
Whatever other gifts Mega-Charisma gives Mai, they are still just as potent when she is recorded. Videotape, holographic storage
and similar media all convey Mai’s superhuman charm.
System: If Mai is recorded while using charisma-related Abilities, they apply with full strength when shown to audiences
elsewhere: Targets must resist the successes Mai achieves, just as if they were present when she used her power.
(Yes, this is the Mega-Charisma equivalent of Almost Live, and is cumulative with that enhancement.)

I just think it would be funny to have her make training videos. "Sit your pet in front of the tv and let Mai train it for you! Soon, your pet bunny will be ready to defend your apartment in case of burglar!"

I wonder if the state department would end up considering her a risk since her videos could turn anyone into a elite soldier, tho
>>
>>21191298
>So, basically a supersonic lariat?
Yep

Honestly I wouldnt mind to just houserule you can do that if you want, since crunch wise there is no benefit from it. It´s just "rule of cool"

Honestly, we'd actually be taking a relative penalty as the fight opens, so it'd probably be pretty cheap, if it exists. Or provide a massive flair bonus.

>>21191286
Wait, does Ned constitute a non-Nova for that power? (I have no idea why we'd even want to, but it'd be hilarious.)
>>
>>21191353
Like I said, I think it´s fine. You can usually turn "off" powers, even free "permanent" powers. You just cant turn off taint and its effects.

I am sure someone would argue spiders dont count as animals. She could however train a room full of monkeys into typing, sit 1000 in a room and have them type a masterpiece.

Yes, she could train Ned to be an elite commando. Somehow I can see that being hilarious

Eh, I think it would be normal for a quest thread if I as the OP offered you some options and you just picked from among them. Would 3 out of 5 options be bullshit, tho? .....maybe

Also, on that thing about training monkeys, I just realized that if she trained 4 to play either Dota 2 or League of Legends, she would have a way better team than if she was just playing with random strangers.

Its not hard! really! why are people so bad at it!

If you don't mind my horrific slowness, I guess you could just start the fight now. At the least it'll bump the thread to attract other people in (hopefully). But I don't want to end up soloing the whole fight.

Announcer: "And today, we have a classical fight betwee Python, one of our oldest, cleanest, most fair warriors, and Kali, known as the Cheat Goddess for her ability to produce weapons and foreign objects at will! As you know, it is forbidden to bring any weapons into the ring, but it is allowed to use anything within the ring as a weapon!"

Kali makes her entrance, "dressed" in a clear brown eufiber suit that matches her skin color a bit too well, with just a few white adornments at key spots, adding further lewdness to the overall effect. She has short, dark hair and blue eyes, with an athletic build that speaks about speed and health. Her fans greet her with "Kill him!" and "Goddess!" calls

Commentator: "And entering after the lady, here comes Python. The old time clean warrior, hero of a generation, fair game champion looks better than ever! It is our understanding that he has been going through intensive, scientific training. In his own words, he can´t let the Brass Reaper do all the work!"

Python is bulkier than he was just two weeks ago, coming into the arena riding on a crane´s hook from the roof. He undoes his Dormancy, and surprises his fans as he shows his new knuckles!

8 /14 /9 /8 - 6 /5 /4 /3 = 2 / 9 / 5 / 5 spillover from attack to damage on each punch. His punches do 10d10... roll 9d10. I will just count the first 2 / 9 / 5 / 5 dice from each roll as the damage done

1/1/3/4/5/

I think we'd have preferred to roll 21d10 so we'd at least be screwed by the rolls and not the positioning...

Perhaps everyone could roll in excess and you take the leftmost rolls as the ones taken, in descending number of dice with each post (so all posts roll 20d10 or something, but you only take the first 17 from the first post, the first 16 from the second, 15 from the third, etc.)?

>>
>>21191797
Yeah, we are going with just rolling the whole dicepool and then I cut and paste it in little chunks, dont worry

Kali got 4 and you got 4, so it goes to Python because he has more wits than Kali

Do you want to
punch, kick, grab, sweep, headbutt or a combination (he gets the most bonuses to punches)
hyperspeed punching?
hyperspeed laryat?

My vote is on hyperspeed punching like a motherfucker, just running as fast as Python possibly can, running back and forth to Kali and punching her with all four arms every time we get in near.

Basically this, except from every side at once.

Again, for those of you just arriving to the thread, I updated the spreadsheet by adding the fighters attributes and the book examples of what they can do with them. The attributes are from line 37 downwards

Is it possible to forego some attacks now (while still taking penalties) to fight defensively and gain bonuses to dodge later?

Keep punching; we just punched her twice, so we could fluff it as a continuation of a flurry of punched.
>>
>>21191840
You could go full defense and get a +2 bonus to defensive rolls afterward and thats it

I like your idea. Since last round you went last with punching, and this round you go first, if you keep punching, it would look like just a loooong series of punches

>>
>>21191859
It's not our finisher. Our finisher is the hyperspeed lariat.

I just figured it'd be cool if it looked like we dodged and put her on the ropes immediately.

Also, I think we should go all out on punching before she gets weapons and probably ups her damage like a motherfucker.
>>
Also, taunt her to bait out a specific type of counterattack: she has more arms than us; she should be more than able to match us punch for punch!

Is what I did. Is also what I didint want to do because I wanted you guys to be able to make the rolls. This makes me think that the idea to just ask you guys to roll a number and then I take the required dice from each of your rolls is the best mix of practical with interactive/fun
>>
Rolled 4, 2, 6, 1 = 13

>>21191923
dodge [12d10] => [7,2,3,5,7,9,3,4,6,6,8,9] result of (5) success

dodge [9d10] => [2,3,7,1,5,4,10,6,5] result of (2) success

So 5 / 6 / 5 / 8 vs 5 / 6 / 4 / 2... well at least I can ask you to roll 9d10 for the damage. But yes, thats why I said we could have you each roll, say, 19 dice, then I took your rolls in order and ignored the required number of dice off every roll

>>21191923

Suggest you roll NPCs in OpenRPG by whatever method suits you best.

With a 25-dice cap, we'd need 2 or 3 posts each time, which is better than 4, and means everyone's rolls count

Example

Pool of 65

Baggins rolls 25
SPA rolls 25
BC rolls 25

You take the 25 from Baggins and Slowpost, as well as the first 15 from Champ, and voila! 65 dice.

Hah! It works!

In the XdY roller, there may be a cap to X, but not to Y.

Ergo, if one is looking to roll Xd10, one can roll 1d(10^x) and produce a string of numbers that, if looked at as if they were physically-rolled 'digits' d10s (with 0 representing 10).

In that post, I rolled 1d100000000000000000 and it gave me a string of 17 digits that represents a dice pool.

Five attacks? Roll 5 of them, and drop trailing digits as needed

with the -3 penalty, is down to 16d10 for a single punch.
If we assume we´ll roll at least 1 success on the check for penalties... which will be hard because instead of 4d10 now we are just rolling a lonesome 1d10...

The rolls would be 16/15/14/13. If we DONT get the success on the penalty check, the rolls would be 14/13/12/11.

On the plus side, she has the same penalties as us so her dodge right now is going to be 9/8/7/6 either way

>>21192543

We have a base damage of 14 on our punches. Her base soak is 12. So each punch (that hits) does at least 2d10 damage. Each point by which we beat her defense, is another dice we add to damage.

Right now, we have the winning odds heavily in our side. If we hit with any attack we have good chances to knock her out, but if we miss, the same will be true for her as she will have great chances of finishing us off.

Brass: "Jesus bro, take her down!"

Narrator: "And Python is standing! he releases a barrage of blows. Kali can´t dodge them all, she is down! The cheating Goddess is down. Python is stronger than ever, a display of classical, gentlemanly fisticuffs allows the amazonian beast to take down the asian goddess!!"

Brass: "That was close. That was too close"

Narrator: "And here comes our beautiful head physician, followed by her staff. She confirms that Kali is unconscious, but her injuries are not severe... Kali is awake now. It is too late, the match is over!"

Brass: "You almost got taken out, you skinny fuck"
Python: "Had to give the fans their money´s worth, old man"

Yeah, buti thought we were planning to have Python start a "welcome back, Brass, show me your moves" fight offstage to have the two of them bro it up so the marks would really explode when they see Python jump onstage.

I could have remembered wrongly, of course.

In any case, I'm off now. See you all next thread.

>>
>>21193264

Correct. Brass v Kodiak next week, then tag match week after.

Gives Python a chance to train up, get some new moves (like some kind of a stunning option)

>>21193289

No need. We can have video vignettes of them sparring instead
>>
>>21193531
I was thinking that Black Hawk jumps in during the second round of the grudge match to help Kodiak, the three of them do some acting before Python gets on the scene, where after it turns into a real 2v2

So:

Round 1: Brass and Kodiak ham it up and act for the marks
Round 2: Black Hawk jumps in, they act like crazy, before Python also jumps in about halfway through the round
Round 3: full on 2v2 no holds barred
>>
>>21193531
>Gives Python a chance to train up, get some new moves (like some kind of a stunning option)
He CAN headbutt, just doesnt gets as high an attack roll to it (16d10 instead of 19d10 like he does with his punches).

I kind of like the idea of getting pressure points for him. Let me check exp costs of such a thing, considering now at least a week will pass before his next fight so he will have more exp available
>>
>>21193553
Yes this is what I was thinking too. Checking The New Flesh for pressure points shenannigans
>>
>>21193563
Actually that was my bad. His headbutt comes from boxing so he has 19d10 on its attack roll too

Ok the martial arts he could learn which deal in pressure points are:
Kalaripayit, which teaches him a pressure point strike right away and supposedly is the original martial art, which later went from india to china to create kung fu and then spread everywhere else.

It is an enormously well-rounded style, with 4 main areas of training; Maithari (body train-ing), Kolthari (stick fighting), Ankathari (metal weapons) and Verumkai (empty-handed fighting). True gurus of the form master the additional areas of Chiktsavidhikal (holistic medicine and massage), Manthrathantra (meditation and religious training) and Marmagnanam (pressure point techniques, individually known as marma).

Kung Fu lets him learn pressure points

Ninjutsu/Taijutsu also lets him learn pressure points

Street Fighting lets him learn pressure strike right away

Tae Kwon Do lets him learn pressure strike

T’ai Chi Ch’uan lets him learn pressure strike, and is the gateway for Qi Meng, a Nova-Only martial arts that is the ONLY way any nova can ever reduce their Permanent Taint, and mixes martial art with super powers

Wrestling comes in Catch, Free & Greco-Roman, Professional and Sumo flavors.

Mai can teach him most of these or introduce him to a master of one she doesnt knows. Starting to learn a martial arts is just 2 exp, and each martial arts can be learned 3 times for extra bonuses (he has boxing in 3, for example), but after the first point, it takes a nova a few months to learn more of it (a normal human can take years). Each time he learns more points of the same martial arts, he gets bonuses to attack and damage with maneuvers from it, but even if he doesnt, he can still pay exp to learn maneuvers from it
>>
>>21193816
Python has four points of permanent taint, right?

We've got to ask him about Qi Meng. If he wants to reduce his taint, he'll probably appreciate being informed that it is indeed possible.
>>
>>21193816
Wow the requirements to learn Qi Meng are pretty high, but its a martial art specialized in fighting other novas and can shut down powers and disrupt quantum.
>>
>>21193893
Qi Meng is meant to be a secret within the nova community of martial art masters, tho it is more likely that those who know T´ai C´hi know about it since it originated from it.

To open the door for he to learn it, I really want to wait until he starts training with Mai so she notices his taint and offers to teach him Tai Chi. If he accepts, she will later insinuate about Qi Meng and see if he´s interested.
>>
>>21193992
Sounds good.
It does seem like I'm the only one left, though.
Sad.
>>
>>21193816
Let's have the Python learn Kalaripayit (specifically Maithari and Verumkai, aiming to learn Marmagnanam). It sounds really interesting.
>>
>>21193893
The other way is the "Terats", a organization of Novas that believe that Novas are above men as men are above monkeys. They actually devour Taint to make themselves stronger, but to do so they must abandon their humanity by following the paths of the Monster, the Portent, or the Marvel, which basically means abandoning your humanity and follow the idea that you are "something else". They really DO turn taint into power, but basically they start becoming monsters in exchange.
>>
>>21194035
ah, you suscribe yourself to the idea of making him into Dhalsim?

The two primary methods are the Northern Style and Southern Style, but a wide range of other variations exist. NorthernStyle tech-niques focus on high leaping and kicking, as well as striking and blocking with the hands and arms, and are almost always taught indoors and at night to maintain secrecy. Northern Style is especially noted for extensive use ofmedicinal mas-sage. Southern Style focuses on developing empty hand and weapon techniques, uses more circular motions and are usually taught outdoors in simple training pits. Southern Style is well known for its use of offensive pressure marma techniques. Training for both schools consist of grueling regimens of strenuous exercise, body-twisting forms and full-contact sparring. Kalaripayit was expressly forbidden by during the British occupation of India, and degenerated into a form of ritual dance during most over the 20th Century.
However, a revival movement began in the late 1970’s and the style has experienced an enormous upswing in popularity in the following decades. Kalaripayit is often used as the combat art of choice for the heroes of Bollywood action films. When the aspiring guru selects a style, he must choose his bonus style maneuvers from either Northern or Southern Style listings. Certain advanced techniques may only be selected by gurus of the appropriate style
>>
>>21194035
Python being an Indian martial artist just doesn't mesh well with my idea of him being an old school fighter
>>
>>21194103
Well, he´s already a master boxer. Could learn more boxing maneuvers, too.

He could learn pressure strikes without learning another martial art, but to do so he would have to pay considerably more exp, and wouldnt have the style bonuses.

I dunno, he already is a master boxer. I dont really see a problem with learning another martial art to compliment that. Besides, it takes 6 months for a nova to learn each "point" in Kalarapayit. I really dont think that just knowing a indian martial arts means you are suddenly indian, thats kind of silly
>>
>>21194103
Nah. Not fully Indian martial artist. Southern style sounds very snake-like, and that fits the theme of Python. And I propose we adapt what we learn in such way, that will not readily come off as being Kalaripayit. Maybe he'll just use the knowledge of pressure points to strike at them, and not use the style fully. Unless the situation requires it, of course.
>>
>>21194158
The Advanced Techniques he still has to learn from box are: Conditioning, Footwork, Iron Hand and Knock Out.

Could also remember to buy that extra armor/soak now, or more hp. Could also raise his stats, or maybe buy a power
>>
>>21194150

Is there some kind of Haymaker Punch ability? A special boxing-based Stunning Strike?

+1 vote for Dhalsimification/Moar Kenshiro with Kalaripayit
>>
Oh, he can learn Spinning Throw for free, but needs to roleplay it
The nova grapples a target, spins around rapidly and then releases the victim, hurling her now-disoriented adver-sary away at a great speed.
Prerequisites: Mega-Dexterity 3+, the Enhanced
Movement enhancement, Hypermovement 1+.
System: After a successful Hold or Clinch maneuver, the nova may spend 1 Willpower point to spin their opponent rapidly and then release him. The victim suffers a knock-back, with each dot of the nova’s Mega-Dexterity adding 2 meters of distance and each dot ofHypermovement adding 5 meters of distance. The victim must also make a success-ful Wits roll or be Dazed until his next initiative. Using this maneuver costs the nova 2 additional quantum points.

Basically once he starts a grapple, he can pay quantum point (remember he has 28) to spin super quickly and then throw the target (throws do damage). If he pays 2 more points, the target is also dazed/stuned and cant do anything on its turn
>>
>>21194186
>Conditioning
Very good. He needs to be tougher.
>Footwork
And this will help to dodge.
>Iron Hand, Knock Out
Two maneuvers which strenghten his already potent boxing.

I see no cons in learning Kalaripayit. Atlhough, I'm a bit leery of turning Python into Dhalsim expy.
>>
>>21194265
I realize this is partly my fault because I havent explained the rules fully, but honestly when I started this questhread I was thinking I would just offer options and roll most stuff myself. Wasnt counting on /tg/ being so interested and active.

When you hit someone, if you do as much damage as they have stamina + endurance, they are automatically dazed/stunned. Knockout punch lets you count their stamina as 3 points lower for this purpose.
People can normally have up to 5 stamina, and 5 endurance. Some people in the Omega division probably have a bit more, but even just having 1 or 2 points more than that is already EPIC.
This means that instead of needing to do 10 damage on a punch to stun/daze someone, you would need to do just 7.
This is of course assuming they have MAXIMUM stamina and endurance
>>
>>21194290

He'll not *actually* be Dhalsim, because we've already checked, and found no feasible way to give him stretchy arms.

Nothing wrong with learning a new style, though. And if it takes time, we can work on other aspects.
>>
>>21194356
Oh and Iron hand lets you ignore a point of soak when you attack with a punch. So basically is +1 damage.

Anyway, with Kockout punch he has a passive chance, whenever he punches someone, to daze/stun him
>>
>>21194356

PERFECT.

Haymaker stun buys the round we need to set up Lariat.

Any powers/abilties we can learn that allow us to do punches with more than one arm, for extra damage, eg Knock Out Punch with all four arms?
>>
Btw for 5 exp, he would run at 500 kph MORE, and learn a new special attack for free

Velocity Distress
The nova grapples a target, and then accelerates to speeds that the opponent’s body cannot withstand.
Prerequisites: Mega-Dexterity 2, Enhanced Movement, Hypermovement 2.
System: Novas by nature are immune to the physical side-effects of their own abilities. Their opponents, however, are not. Velocity Distress can only be performed after a suc-cessful Hold has been established on the target. Once the hold is established, the following turn on her initiative rating, the nova spends 1 Willpower point and makes a Brawl (or Martial Arts) roll resisted by their opponent’s Might. If successful, the nova picks up and carries the target while moving at an accelerated rate. Each turn the target takes [Quantum] + (Hyper-Movement rating x 2) bashing damage.
If the target also has Hypermovement he gains an additional point of soak against this effect for each dot of Hypermove-ment he possesses. Targets with Enhanced Movement and a rating in Hypermovement greater than the attacking nova’s Hypermovement rating are entirely immune to this maneuver. A target that escapes the hold (or is released) must make a Athletics roll at a difficulty equal to the attacking nova’s Hypermovement rating or take damage as if stuck by a Hyperspeed Slam. Using this maneuver costs the nova 2 additional quantum points.

Basically one you have someone immobilized in a hold, you pick him up and make him suffer from G forces until he faints
>>
>>21194486
Naaaaaaaaaah. Sounds cool, but too weak (I'm sure most of the opposing fighters can soak all of this damage, and overusing Quantum immediately raises a NOPE! flag in my mind).
>>
>>21194438
He already has Ambidexterity, that allow him to gain +1 to attack when he uses both hands. Is part of how he gets to negate multiple actions penalties.

He could buy Omnidexterity for 5 exp, which would basically let him upgrade that so he could copy with one hand whatever another is doing. For example he could write the same letter 4 times, or draw the same sketch 4 times, or shoot 4 guns at the same target, and I dont see any reason he couldnt throw 4 punches if the rules would let him shoot 4 guns, but this is for reducing or denying his multiple action penalties when hes attacking

For doing extra damage he already has Rapid Strike which I renamed for fluff reasons as Hyperspeed Strike. Pay 1 quantum point, and for one turn all his punches and kicks do +5 damage.
>>
>>21194560
Omnidexterity + Pressure Point Strike.

TOO STRONK.
>>
>>21194579
AMAZINGGRACE
The Nova has heightened her defensive reflexes to the point where she can instinctively dodge attacks against her.
System:This effect costs one Quantum point and lasts a turn. It can be activated at anytime, provided the Nova can spend Quantum.
For each dot the Nova has in Mega Dexterity, she receives a dodge successes against any strike that she can perceive beforehand (She may not need to see the strike, but she needs to know it is coming).
Additionally, she may use Amazing Grace to reduce the force of a fall, gaining extra soak dice equal to her Mega Dexterity rating for the purposes of falling damage only
>>
>>21194560
>>21194579

Omnidexterity + Knockout Punch + Hyperspeed Strike is also fun

Does Megastrength add its free successes to Damage?
>>
>>21194631
What mega-strength does is turn dice into automated successes so you dont need to roll them, tho, just throwing that out there. A friend was convinced that with 5 points in mega strength he was going to do +25 damage all the time every time and thats not how shit works

ENHANCED REFLEXES
Novas with Mega-Dexterity can often move so fast that others can barely keep up.¹ A nova with Enhanced Reflexes moves so fast that even other novas have a hard time keeping up with her.
System:Enhanced Reflexes does for Mega-Dexterity what Enhanced Initiative does for Mega-Wits.¹ Every time that a nova pur-chases this enhancement, he gains a +5 bonus to his initiative dice pool.¹ Whereas Enhanced Initiative accounts for the nova’s being able to analyze, process, and react to current circumstances faster than they happen, Enhanced Reflexes accounts for the actual speed involved in those reactions.¹ These two enhancements combined make for a truly fast character.
>>
>>21194620
HOOOLY CRAP.

>>21194677

> A friend was convinced that with 5 points in mega strength he was going to do +25 damage all the time every time and thats not how shit works

To be fair, I can see how that misreading could happen... it said "free successes"...

I think we're agreeing that laying the foundations to learn Kala is good, but for now, Knockout Punch and Iron Hand make for good improvements.

What does anyone else think?
>>
>>21194620

Could we use Amazing Grace at the same time as prepping for the Lariat?
>>
>>21194677
If you could put all this up in the spreadsheet with associated XP costs, it'd be a lot easier to see what's best, cost-efficiency wise.

Also, my internet died
>>
>>21194713
Well, its 5 exp. For 5 more you could buy 360 degree eyesight, but it clearly says you dont need to see it coming. In a ring fight, I think we can safely assume he knows the other guy wants to hit him. The "that you know are coming" is probably about sniper rifles from afar or some powers that let you strike by surprise, I think

>>21194751
>To be fair, I can see how that misreading could happen... it said "free successes"...
Yeah, WW is... pretty crappy at explaining rules. But after MUCH reading the aberrant books, I realized that when they say "extra successes" they mean "besides the dice pool" and then they just say "free successes" then they mean "automatically these many die from the die pool are successes"

Oh, a VERY important point to consider. One of the Ninjutsu maneuvers let you do hand to hand combat damage based on your dexterity instead of your strength. Mai has it, is her source of damage since she has average human strength
>>
>>21194782
All these "little powers" that I´ve mentioned in this thread are "enhancements". All enhancements cost 5 exp. All of them.

Learning a point in a martial art costs 2 exp
Learning a martial arts maneuver costs 2 more exp if you dont have a point in its "related" martial art
>>
>>21194818

So, 4 xp for both Iron Hand and Knock Out
5 xp for Amazing Grace

Is that right?
>>
Okay, guys.

Python will have 11 personal XP by the fights next week.

If we book Python for a fight (BEFORE Brass', no matter what), we can get 5 extra XP for that week.

Brass will have 5 personal XP by next week.

Communal pool is 12 XP.

I think we will need to upgrade Brass with some cool shit, to keep up the flair. We're beginning to become a bit complacent.
We have to ride this wave of popularity and we have to keep on doing so before hype dies down.

Again, let's get in touch with our contacts and arrange for a new line of Brass Reaper merch. Toys, shirts, foam fingers, fucking everything.
Market it as limited edition collector stuff. Only die hard fans will buy before Brass gets really big, anyway, and those kind of fans are always willing to pay more for "limited edition" crap.

Start designing Python stuff too. Maybe Python + Brass tag team that will be unveiled after the match next week.
>>
>>21194862
No, let me see...
Iron Hand is 1 exp if you know box, 3 if you dont
Knockout is 5 exp if you know box, 7 if you dont

Amazing Grace is 5 exp, correct. BUT it uses a "slot" of Mega Dex enhancements. You can only have as many enhancements in an attribute as you have points in that mega attribute

Currently he already has the hyperspeed enhancement so he can run at 500 kph. He also has ambidexterity, but that one is free for any nova with at least 1 point of mega dex, and doesnt costs a slot
>>
>>21194922
If we have 5 slots, then amazing grace is definitely worth one of them.
>>
>>21194899

Which is enough to buy the stuff outlined in >>21194922

That looks like a good start
>>
>>21194899
>Python will have 11 personal XP by the fights next week.
He means "before" next week fight. Jsyk

Python is incredibly merchandise-friendly. Remember he had a cartoon series and a movie. Also his mega charisma 3 says "* Make baselines spend a significant portion of their annual wage just to do the things you like to do or have the things you like to have. Yes, you ARE that important to them!"
>>
I still think we should have Python start learning Kalaripayit =(

My proposal:
So, out of 11 personal exp:
5 for Amazing Grace
1 for Iron Hand
2 for first point in Kalaripayit
*If we have enough points left, or do not need more than 2 exp from communal pool, then
? for Omnidexterity
*Else
Save until next fight, and get Omnidexterity+Knockout.
>>
Ah right I was gonna mention Cellular Repair and got distracted.
This is an actual power, not a enhancement, tho. It costs 3 exp
Using it costs 1 Quantum Point, and lets you heal up to (times you have bought celular repair + your quantum) damage when you use it, as long as you pay 1 Quantum Point per point healed.

However however however. If you want to for example heal 1 aggravated damage, you first have to make it lethal, then bashing, then you heal it.

Anyone can buy this power. It costs 3 exp to buy it, and then 3 more (cumulative) to buy it again
>>
>>21195040

I dont think we should let him learn Kalaripayit just now. Rather get him Knockout, Iron Hand and Amazing Grace. You can always start turning him into a Guru later on.
>>
>>21195149
First point in Kalaripayit will open access to Body Conditioning and Footwork, IIRC. Both of these feats are very useful, and it's not like we are going to turn him into Guru right now, right here. Let's start now, and then decide if we want to train him further, or if we want him to learn something else instead.
>>
>>21195113

My vote is Omnidexterity, Iron Hand and Amazing Grace.

Hitting more often > Sometimes stunning someone if you hit him somehow, which is why omnidexterity seems better than knockout.

Although we could use the communal shit to get both.

And extra arms for even more abuse of omnidexterity.

Pressure Secret (3 experience points
Associated Only)
You get this 3 exp-worth technique for free if you buy the 2exp-worth 1st point in Kalraripayit. It opens to you a catalogue of various "Pressure Secrets" that you can buy. Some (pick one) are free when you get Pressure Secret for the first time, then you need to buy it again if you want them (so technically they are worth 3 exp). Some cost more. One of the most expensive ones is the Death Touch (which costs 7 extra exp)

Dim Mak: The legendary death touch. In addition to the normal pressure strike effects, you may spend a Willpower point and make a Medicine roll at a +3 difficulty. If success-ful, the target must make a Resistance roll as if affected by a Lethal poison with a Toxicity of (relevant Combat Ability +2).
The onset time of this poison effect is anywhere between instantaneous up to 24 hours per dot of your relevant Combat Ability rating. Dim Mak costs 7 experience points to learn and you must know the Healing and Paralysis Pressure Secrets as additional prerequisites.

Healing: You can re-align the chi of your patient’s body, granting good health. When treating a patient, you may spend a Willpower point and make a Medicine roll at a +2 difficulty. Each net success either adds 1 to your patient’s next Resistance or Endurance roll made that scene, or dou-bles their natural healing rate for the next 24 hours. This may only be attempted once per day on any individual patient.
You may use the Healing technique on yourself, but doing so adds a +1 modifier to the difficulty of the Medicine roll.

Massage Technique: Known as Uzhichil by gurus of Kalaripayit, you may employ a deep muscle massage and oil treatment to prepare your patient’s body for combat.
When treating a patient, you may spend a Willpower point and make a Medicine roll at a +2 difficulty penalty. If suc-cessful, your patient’s body becomes limber and ready for physical exertion, and grants him either a +1 bonus to his bashing soak or a +1 bonus to rolls made to escape clinches or holds. Using this technique requires at least 30 minutes of massage and may only be attempted once per day on any individual patient. The effects of the Massage Technique last for one scene. You may use the Massage technique on yourself, but doing so adds a +1 modifier to the difficulty of the Medicine roll.

So, we pay 2exp and get Martial Art benefits (like +1 to punches from boxing, right?), a 3exp-worth feat for free, and get access to a selection of very useful punch-based attacks. AND we get access to Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken =)
>>
Aha! this was so fucking hard to find. I was looking in the wrong section. This is what you learn for free when you buy that first point in the indian martial art whose name I keep butchering

Pressure Strike
The character strikes their opponent in a pressure point or other sensitive area of the body (such as the temple, throat or genitals). This attack is ineffective against targets lacking the proper organs.
Ability: Archery, Brawl, Firearms, Martial Arts, Melee
Difficulty: +3
Accuracy: Normal
Damage: Normal for the attack, the victim must also roll Resistance at +2 difficulty or be Dazed for (damage taken) rounds.

Yes and no. What you get is what I posted here.
>>21195324
You get it for free when you buy the first point in Kalaripayit, AND you can later buy pressure secret for 3 exp and get the extra options and mods to your pressure strike
>>
>>21195324

Pressure Point: Difficulty +3
Mega Dex 5: Swap dice pool for reduced Target Number

That could work.

Harder to use with our boxing, and we'll only be succeeding on 10s
>>
Personally I like the idea of getting knockout punch and kalaripayit because knockout punch lets you treat their stamina as 3 points less with your punches, and pressure strike has them roll endurance with a difficulty of +2 when you punch them, to avoid getting dazed for more than just 1 round. Seems like good synergy, and maybe even broken, to me.

Anyway
>>21195325
>Brass was, IIRC, going to get Invulnerability to Mental Attacks and Absorb All Energy

Yep

You buying the version of absorb that lasts for a few turns, or the one that lasts a whole scene/fight? one is 6 exp and the other is 9
>>
>>21195396
>Harder to use with our boxing, and we'll only be succeeding on 10s
uhm? I dont see why. It basically just slaps a modifier on your punches, which you use with box. Remember mega dex 5 gives you 5 extra dice, but you could use 3 of those to lower difficulties by 3 and still have 2 extra dice
>>
>>21195427
Whole fight seems better.

We don't have much XP for him, though. 5 after this week's training.
We'd need to use 4 communal XP, leaving 19 for Python.

We could just get absorb (energy) and get omnidexterity, iron hand, amazing grace, kalaripayit AND knockout punch, and still have 1 communal XP in the bank.
>>
>>21195453

My point was that Difficulty +3 pushes our target number for success up to 10, and you can't use Mega Strength to reduce difficulties

Or have I misunderstood again?
>>
>>21195324
So, we roll 3 dice less than when we use simple punches, BUT we get a chance to knock the target into long, long daze. Which, I think, equals an almost certain victory.

I like.

So, Python's 11 personal exp + 2 exp from pool leaves us with 5 personal + 10 pool exp for Brass. Is this enough for what we have planned for him to learn?
>>
>>21195472
But Python boxes using Dex. Box can be based off Brawl (strength) or martial arts (Dex). He uses it based on dex
>>
Also, Wikipedia says that it's not 'Kalaripayit'. It's 'Kalaripayattu'.
>>
Hold on Im gonna update their exp assuming they train this week. Im having trouble thinking four-dimensionally
>>
>>21195494

Ah, that makes sense now.

>>21195493

I think the Difficulty +3 mean that our number for success is higher
>>
>>21195518
Eh, Tomate tomatoe
Lets see
Python needs to use 11 + 2
Brass needs 5 + 4 to get absorb energy. and 0 + 6 to get Invulnerability to mental attacks

Yes, there is exactly that much
>>
>>21195543
>I think the Difficulty +3 mean that our number for success is higher
He knows, he is implying we will roll 3 less mega dex dice to lower the difficulty back to normal, which seems okay to me
>>
>>21195564

Honestly, for that, I'd be tempted to use all 5 Mega Dex, so we succeed on a 5+

>4 simultaneous attacks with Omnidexterity
>Without MegaDex, that's about 14 dice per attack
>Average of 7 successes on each hit
>Enemy Resistance rolls vs Daze made at -3 due to Knockout Blow

Now that's what I call a transition move. We hit the opponent in 4 pressure points simultaneously. Gonna fuck up their shit hardcore
>>
>>21195564
Alright, updated the spreadsheet but I think there were some formulas on the side of Brass "can buy" powers that I dont know how to erase.

>>21195722
>Honestly, for that, I'd be tempted to use all 5 Mega Dex, so we succeed on a 5+

I dont -think- you could lower difficulty beyond +0, but I never really thought about it. I just dont think it could be done, but in 2+ years running aberrant, honestly noone ever brought it up before

Can someone store the thread? I think Im gonna go lie down for a bit. Got a nasty stomach ache, and have to go out in a bit, anyway.

Im gonna lie down just 5 minutes, I hope

Oh, and next game this mondays, at 8:35 hours before right now. If someone could translate that into the sheet I would be thankful, guys

Thank you for running this, The King Of All Night´s Dreaming.

Having to "Forever GM" for Aberrant it's nice to actually be able to see watch a game in progress especially an XWF one.

We need a cameo from the Hunter S Thompson expy from the "Fear and Loathing" supplement. If only to have to herd hallucinating cats backstage for a promo.

>>21195954
Damn, both of those girls need to eat more. It's like they're not even real boxers.

dohohoho
>>
>>21195765

As I see it, MegaDex could be used to drop a Success number by up to 5. If 7 is standard difficulty, You could potentially drop it all the way down to 2 (which is as far as it could go, since 1 always fails).

Pressure Strike then pushes the difficulty up by 3, so we succeed on a 5+

>>21195954

KOAND is taking a break, but if you've GM'ed Aberrant before, can you confirm/deny if my logic is right

>>21195861

That would be midday BST (GMT +1) I think

Be advised Edric that I "played" a very broke interpretation of the rules that felt more like a Grand Theft Auto simulator with super powers.

Mostly raw dice rolls for pass/fails and not a lot of combat mechanics used.

Was able to keep a rotating crowd of passerby and a core group of 4 or so players amused for about a decade however.

The character creation was the best part since it was essentially wish fulfillment made manifest. "What sort of superpowers do you think are cool?" and worked from there.

Since I ran it so rules light the newcomers were able to get their heads around the pass/fail d10 system and provided an ever growing stable of NPCs as life moved on.

They ended up becoming a crime cartel and glassing Utah.

Finally years later had some other novas tear the island they bought as a vacation refuge into a parallel reality just to get rid of them.

Now attempting to play it actually using the rules as written with the various fixes that players and the writers released over the years.

Clone for example.

Pic is evidence we migrated to Adventure for pulp scale amusements thanks to the fine products of AstrobaseGo.

Thanks man. Sorry I took so long coming back. I wonder if anyone is still around
up datiing the PDF sheets
>>
>>21198129
Sorry to bother you, but I was looking at the googledoc and i noticed that Red Jane was a BEAST. More strength and stamina than Brass? Jesus, that's a lot. I may not know a lot about this system, but is she supposed to be overpowered like that (compared to Brass and Python)?
>>
>>21200296
She´s at her peak right now, while Brass is still coming back.
Remember novas shape themselves unconsciously according to their desires. That is the ideal her according to her subconcious.
By the time the remaining 11 weeks have passed, tho, Brass should be back into strength 5 mega strength 5 as well, and probably outclass her in many ways.
