(Note: this is a oneshot quest.)

The Imperium is filled with tales of brave space marines, battling evils across the universe, who fight with the will of the emperor himself. There are the Adeptus Sororitas, who fight fire with fire, harsh and militant, whose kiss can cure any of the taint of chaos. And then there's you, a scum working in a laspack factory.

At least you haven't been dragged out and shot by an inquisitor in the head.

As the bell tolls for the end of the shift, you turn away from the machinery, uttering a quick litany for the machine spirits.

As the men line up to fill form MDCLI for clocking out of work, you join them, another ragged man in coveralls. You fill out your name and your job. What were they? (d100 rolls, higer is better. Stopping after 4-5 votes.)

Your Name:

Your Job:

Box Lifter: You lift boxes, which has increased your resilience to damage and strength.

Roof Fixer: You're acrobatic, and know a thing or two about fixing machinery after working on the rooftop generators.

Button Presser: You're lucky. Extremely lucky. How else would you land a job where you only have to press a button every 30 minutes?

You begin to fill it out, when suddenly, an explosion rocks your feet, and the roof explodes in a mass of steel. As smog and the sounds of coughing and pain fill the air, shots ring out, followed by explosions.

The shots of a bolter.

“BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!” A daemonic voice rings out, and you instinctively feel fear. 30 meters away, a troop of Khorne Berserkers emerge from a drop pod, firing into the crowd. You freeze, feeling your death close at hand.

Then a bolter shot rings out above you, and a mass of steel descends upon the crowd, and a sharp pain hits your head.

Then the world goes black.

You feel to a gentle nudging on the side of your hand. You brush it off, but it seems insistent. It brings your closer and closer to reality, pulling you out of the darkness of sleep.

Then you get whacked on the head, and jump right up.

The first thing you see is a servo skull.

The second thing you see is the factory in shambles, parts of the roof falling down.

But that's not the worst.

As you pick yourself out of the rubble, you can see the rain of drop pods in the sky. The city is ablaze with fire and chaos, and pandemonium is heard in the distance.

Here, however, is dead.

As the servo-skull bumps into your hand again, you look down at your hand, and hand it the crumpled form, which it takes and places with the rest. What's your next move?

>FOOD: All this chaos makes me hungry. Might as well die full.
>WEAPONS: I'm in a laspack factory. Let's get armed.
>SHELTER: maybe I should hide, and wait for the Space Marines. They'll come, right?
>SCOUT: Let's keep moving, and check on the situation.

>3,9,23 low success, interesting result.

You scramble through the rubble, looking for something, anything. Aside from a variety of poles and pipes to swing, there's nothing.

Then you spot it.

Underneath all that mess, there's a box. Dragging it out, you read the words “C-PatternLAS” written, as well as some meaningless numbers, as well as a stamp that says “REJECT” on it in bright red letters. You pull it out. The rifle is in pristine condition, and you can't find anything wrong with it. Grabbing a laspack from the ground, you slap it in, the meter reading “100%.” You pull the trigger.

Nothing. No wonder it was a reject.

Then the damn thing kicks your shoulder like a space marine's power hammer, and you stumble backwards. Picking yourself up, you stare at the damage. The wall in front of you sports a man-sized hole scorching from the heat, and you wince. That will certainly take out something big. You check the laspack. It's a scorched, melted mix of plasteel and metal.

“better then nothing.” You mutter, and grab a pipe as well.

What's next?

You utter a quick prayer to the god-emperor, and despite the situation, you are sure he heard your prayer.

You decide that further praying is useless, and rifle on your back, you stride into the city. All around you, the hive world is in shambles, though this part is particularly silent. Off in the distance, you can hear the sounds of battle.

Signs that the city has not yet fallen.

That gives you hope, at the very least.

On your path, you find some meager supplies, and store them for later, if later does indeed exist.

I think you're forgetting the small factor that they are chemical lasers without any form of heat/gas dispersion. So, a bunch of very dense salt is converted to gas, then the gas shoots out behind it, giving a usually small kick. Given the propensity for damage this thing has, it's probably using as much as half the clip per shot, and as doing so would be with a gun, this lasgun has a monstrous kick. The only real problem is that the las blast is always going to move faster than the gas, so you'll probably see the damage before the kick arrives, but such small details are generally irrelevant.

Overcharge settings and such aren't that powerful, but you can get to hellgun strength. Of course, the lasgun isn't built to those tolerances, so at that point, it could literally explode(whichever 40k RPG has it, makes it unreliable).

After putting everything into a hardpack and lashing a few straps onto it, you shrug it on. You then head through the wreckage backwards, spurred by some reason to watch your back as you enter the mess.
The hiss of a radio startles you, and you nearly jump. Hoping for survivors, you rush towards it, and thumb the button.

The voice on the other side crackles and pops over the line, but you hear this:

“this is a member of the Adeptus Sororitas! We demand back-up in sector 14 of the factory district in the name of the emperor! All who hear this call, answer, and do yout duty for the imperium of man!”

What now?
>>
>>21208699

Well experimentation is normally frowned on in the imperium, but if a guardsman can kitbash a normal lasgun into a Hellgun Lite there's no reason a savvy tech priest can't turn a normal lasgun into a mini-lascannon. 'Course it's probably tech heresy so the maker of that rifle probably got blammed.

>>
Rolled 76

As the roar of gunfire and flamers rage around you, you ascend the spire, climbing the wreckage to do so. The sounds are deafening, but you pay no heed for your grip is sure. Grabbing onto the roof, you hoist yourself up onto the top. A golden angel statue greets you with a cold gaze, looking down upon you and the battlefield. Down below, the PDF and Sisters of Battle wage a brave fight, but the Khorne troops advance upon their position, slowly but surely.

They charge, and cut through the troops like butter. One particular berserker knocks aside all in his away, destroying a squad of sisters in an instant. As they fall, his eyes fall upon a wounded Sister on the ground.

Berserker raises his ax.

At the same time, you raise your rifle, a prayer unbidden springing from your lips.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for the Emperor is with me;
your sword and shield, they comfort me.
I am but an instrument of the emperor's will.
Through me, all may be saved.

The Emperor protects.”

You pull the trigger.
>>
Rolled 28

>>21209091

The shot is blinding. Consumed by light, the battlefield turns a brilliant white, for an instant. Then colour returns, and all that is left standing are two legs, which fall down. The Sister on the ground, struggles to her feet, and grabs her chainsword.

“For the Emperor!” She charges, and your rifle follows, an instrument of death. As her blade falls upon the heretics, so does your aim, sending light pulsing down the battlefield. The men beside her pick up the charge, and the fields of battle turn. Now the heretics are struggling losing ground by the second. Up above, you see targets and eliminate them with a mere flick of your finger. Down below they see you as an angel of death, delivering the glare of the emperor upon those unworthy.

Together, you turn the tides of battle.

As your rifle barks less and less, the troops stop their fighting, and soon, the battle is over. Down below, the remaining Sister issues orders, and the men look your direction and point you out. What is your next step?
>>
>>21209061
The Glare is clearly the Las-Gun equivelent of an antitank rifle. The recoil is horendus and the ammo goes by quick but anything you hit is going to die in a single shot.

All we have to do is pick out the important targets to make our ammo count.
>>

>>21209104

You descend, not to thunderous applause or cheers, but the nods and satisfaction of men who know you have saved them. You have earned their respect, a far greater gift then anything material. You rejoice in the moment.

Then a voice interrupts it.

“CITIZEN!”

It's a Sister of Battle. You work your way to it, and she stands amongst the men. She glares at you, and you stay stock still, uncertain.

Then she sticks out her hand. “Sister Rosa, with Order Militant, branch of the Adeptus Sororitas.”

You shake it hesitantly. “Bolta, civilian from Sector 12. I serve the Emperor.”

Suprisingly formal and still, she begins to speak. “I would like to thank you for assisting our troops. Consider yourself drafted into this PDF regiment.” With this, she turns and walks off, issuing orders, heading back to the other sisters nearby.

The men near you roll their eyes and pull you towards a campfire. “them women don't understand. We're just disposable to them. But you, sir. Saved us. We'd like to give you our thanks, and the emperor too.” as the men set out food and work on their weapons, you answer questions about your weapon and you honestly. For a few minutes, you find respite.
>>
>>21209414

Then the sisters order then men up, and you choke down the remnants of a ductrat and water as you fall into formation. You notice that the Sisters are forming ahead. As you take your position, one passes you.

the one you saved on the battlefield.

"Thank you." she whispers, before taking her position.

As you march, Sister Rosa, from the head of the formation, begins to speak.

“we've received orders to secure factory sectors and assist in nearby battles. Our next objective is the material plant in sector 15. a small detachment of Space Marines have been deployed, and we're to assist in destroying those there in the name of the Emperor.”

You recall Sector 15. Set into a massive rock, it's an open field, with a generator smack dab in thee center.

“We're to charge through the main gates, in his name.” the men voice dissention, and she glares at them.
“What would you suggest?”

the men look at you.

What do you say?
>>
>>21209429
You recall your options. There's a vehicle plant nearby, as well as tunnels leading to the generator underneath. The materials plant is hooked up to a lava flow, which if properly redirected, could do some damage. The space marines are already fighting in the open field of the materials plant.

Got a plan?
>>

Also there's the simple fact that we know of tunnels, and there are already Spess Muhreens fighting in the square. Therefore it is only logical to approach via the tunnels and to take the heretics by surprise.

Our orders are to kill them, not waste our lives on a glorius charge. We can only kill enemies of the Imperium if we're alive and relatively healthy after all.

Emphasize that troops are no good if they're injured or dead, therefore a true servant of the Emperor will spend their lives in the most efficient and sensible way possible.

“Aside from not dying? I vote for heading through the tunnels underneath, possibly sabatoging the generator, which they seem to plan on keeping. We've got some vehicles nearby to aid in transit.”

the Sister snarls. “Do you fear battle, guardsman? Cover is for the weak!” As you mentally hit yourself for challenging a Sister of Battle, a voice speaks up.

“He has a point, Sister Rosa.”
“And what is his point, Sister Althea? All I see is man to scared to enter battle!”

Sister Althea steps up, and you recognize her as the Sister you saved. “they would be useless in a battle, then. If they took this option, they would be far more helpful, and would not interfere with us in our fight. The glory shall be ours for victory.”

you see Sister Rosa consider it. “And if they fail, what then?”

“Then the Emperor has found them wanting.” She responds smoothly.

“Fine.' She turns to you and says.

“Enter the tunnels beneath the generator by any means possible, and support us from the inside. Take these men with you, and whatever else you need. May the Emperor protect.” With that she grabs the Sisters, and they charge forward. Sister Althea stays behind momentarily, and nods.

“Don't die, guardsman.”

With that, she joins the rest.

there are three tunnels that head on separate paths, and you have about 119 men with you at last count. they all meet at generator, but are pretty much isolated. Route 1 is winding and long, but is big enough for vehicles. route 2 is straight underneath, and is the shortest, but right under the battlefield. route 3 is big enough for a few motorbikes/service carts, but passes through a tunnel that arches over the battlefield what do you do with everyone?
>>

A: save that sweet crit for later. (think of it as a limit break.)

B: IN THE EMPEROR'S NAME! DESCEND INTO THE DEPTHS OF THIS WRETCHED HIVE AND CLAIM SOME VEHICLES THAT WE MAY SPEED OUR WAY TO THE GENERATOR'S CONTROLS!
>>
>>21209741
3 tunnels mentioned in >>21209763, a vehicle plant nearby with a variety of civilian vehicles, (no flyers) and 120 men including yourself. All are armed with a variety of lasguns and grenade launchers, with a few rocket launchers in the back. Laspacks are aplenty. Also

(acrobatic Unlock!) there's a taut cable that runs from the generator up to a tall Electrical tower nearby. you could ride it somehow...
>>
Rolled 51

>>21209763
With my 75 requisition some large, heavy APC style vehicles (ore haulers or whatever) and have half of those ride down the long winding path.

We take the other half of the men and IN THE EMPEROR'S NAME(!) take them down the shortest direct path. (also see if we can salvage a PDF jacket or something in the meantime so we're easier to identify as one of the boys.)

You order the man to grab some vehicles, and direct them to the long path. As the vehicle whirr and hum, descending into the depths, you take the other half, and proceed through the short path, the sounds of battle roaring overhead. Passing some grates, a quick look out shows you how evenly matched the forces are, neither side winning.

Hopefully, you can change that.

As you progress through, hoping that nothing decides to cave in the tunnel, your prayers are answered, and you make it to the underside of the generator safely. On the sides, you can see exit ramps that lead directly to the battlefield, as well as maintenance ports that run through the generator itself, perfect for troops to hide in. there's a safety disable that would destroy the entire machine, but you doubt the machine spirits would be too happy with you tampering with it. As the vehicles roar through the winding path, you notice some unusual cargo in tow.

A Dreadnought.

“Found 'im wandering the tunnels sir. Mutterin' something 'bout tactics.”

“I WAS NOT MUTTERING. I WAS PLANNING OUT LOUD.” the Dreadnought replies.

“he seemed lost, so we took 'im with us.”

“I WAS NOT LOST. I WAS TEMPORARILY DISORIENTED.”

“In any case, he likes our plan. Never heard about no patchwork grey marines, though.”

“IT IS NOT PATCHWORK. IT IS CAMOUFLAGE. AND AT LEAST YOUR GROUP IS REASONABLE ABOUT FIGHTS, INSTEAD OF CHARGING INTO BATTLE LIKE MY BATTLE-BROTHERS IN BLUE. THEREFORE, I WILL DEFER TO YOUR COMMANDERS. WHAT WOULD YOU REQUEST OF THIS UNIT?”

You lay out your plans, and men move into action. Meanwhile, on the field, the troops of the imperium fall back, assaulted on all sides.

The chaplain of the Space Marines yells. “Onwards, battle-brothers and sisters! For the Emperor!” He charges forward, only to get cut short by a horde of bloodletters. As his men drag him back, one of them groans.

“We should have listened to out dreadnought-brother Ollian this time,”

“You always say that, brother.”

“Well, this time I meant it.” he snaps back, running his powerfist through a bloodletter's face.
“at least the sisters decided to bring bolters instead of flamers, this time.”

meanwhile, the Sisters of Battle fought against the horde, bolters spitting fury and defiance.

“Where are those guardsmen, Sister Althea?” Sister Rosa barks.

“They'll come! I'm sure of it!” She responds, her ayes narrowing in search of the next attack.

“Well, they better come now!” A Space marine replies. “there is glory in death, but more in livi-”

The Space marine is knocked aside by a particularly nasty Khorne Beserker. He raises his axe-
And a brilliant shot rings out, illuminating the field, and taking out the Beserker.
>>
>>21210657
“FOR VICTORY!” Dreadnought and man yell in combination, the vehicles pouring out across the battlefield, cutting through troops like butter. The dreadnought's voice rings across the field, and a sister allows herself a defiant grin.

On your side, You fire and reload, fire and reload, taking out the big targets, you gun leaving craters in it's wake. You do not feel pain, or empathy or disgust. When you shoot, you feel naught but recoil. As the battle recieves a slight lull in the confusion, you mount your motorcycle to cross the cable and gain a better vantage point.

As you do so, however, a Beserker spots you. He is enraged. How could you, a mere human do more for Khorne then he ever could? He raises his bolter and fires.

As he does so, an Ore Hauler takes him in the gut, and a bolter shot takes his head.

You hear a shot, and instinctively jump to the side, and as you hurl yourself aside, an explosion rocks where you just left.

You fall-right onto a Khorne bloodcrusher.
>>
>>21210671
As it opens its mouth to snarl, you lower your gun, and blow its head off. Taking control of the juggernaut, you spur it forward, instinctively understanding how it works. Gun on your back, another Bloodcrusher meets your charge on the field, and the two of you trample across Khorne troops, uncaring of the damage. As the two of you get closer and closer, you spot a chainsword on the field, and snatch it up, just in time to cleave through the Bloodcrusher's sword and body. The corpse falls, and your ride towards the center of battle, where your troops have met up with the Adeptus Sororitas and Asartes, a circle of death surrounding them. As they fight off a massive amount of troops, you stand on the back of your mount, and jump towards the back of a Khornate beserker, bouncing off his head, with the bark of your lasrifle turning it into ash.

You land upon Ollian the Dreadnought and the two of you cause untold damage to the heretics around you, multi-melta and the emperor's glare ringing out in unison.
>>
>>21210685
“I THOUGHT YOU WOULD GET A HIGHER VANTAGE POINT, COMMANDER!” Ollian roars.

“the cable snapped, and it's too far to climb! You reply, shooting a particularly angry Bloodletter in the face.

“HOW ABOUT THROW!” Ollian exclaims.

“Wait wha-” the words are lost as Ollian picks you up and throws you towards the tower.

“MAY THE EMPEROR GRANT YOU WINGS!” He shouts, turning his attention back to the field.

You soar through the sky, approaching the tower rapidly You curse inwardly, and count your shots. 5 left.

As the tower get closer, you arc above it, before landing neatly on top. The tower forms an upside down L held down by mouting points on the ground. From here, you can see the difference your troops are making, and you realize that soon, this battle will be yours. You aim your rifle-

And an unearthly machine bursts from the Materials Plant.

As the circle of vehicles starts to move, mowing down those it it's path, Ollian leaps out and starts to fire at the Maulerfiend, leading it on a chase throughout the perimeter.

You level your gun, and fire.

It screams as The Glare hits it, but it seems operational yet. It turns in your direction and fires some sort of unholy weapon. As it hits the base, one of the mounting points comes loose, and the tower sways under your feet. In any more points are hit, it would smash right into the middle of the battlefield.

You aim your gun again and fire, sending a dash of light down the field. It hits the forgefiend right in the head. It shrieks in unholy agony and fires another unholy weapon, knocking out another strut. The tower begins to shake even more. A few more hits, and it might fall on the battlefield, smashing whatever it hits.

Ollian yells across the field.

“STOP MAKING IT ANGRY! IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO TAKE IT OUT BESIDES DIRECT DAMAGE?”

You think.

Everyone could attack it for massive losses, but at least it would be dead. Or if the generator were overloaded. Or if you could hit it with this tower...

The tower!

You tap your jacket radio again.

“Focus fire, everyone, and get on the sides of the field! Ollian, get it to the center, and keep it there. I've got a plan!”

You look down, and shoot out the last two struts. The tower wobbles underneath you feet.

Down below, Ollian pegs the beast repeatedly with his Plasma Cannon.
“ONWARD, FOR VICTORY!”

As the troops move to the Commander's orders, Ollian dances around the beast, strafing and firing, more to annoy then kill.

“IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR, YOU SHALL OBEY!”
>>
>>21211324
Waves of fire hit the beast, and far away, Ollian hears the explosions of Commander's rifle, and the sounds of the tower shake.

If he still had his human body, he might have grinned at the plan.

Instead, he continued to fight doggedly, luring the beast to its doom.

“In Position, Ollian!” The commander roars.

“LET ME SHOW THIS BEAST IT'S PLACE!” He roars back.

As the maulerfiend swings at Ollian, his Plasma cannon barks in response blowing its paw back. He rushes to it as it settles on the ground, and stabs it with a spike of rubble, pinning it in place. Dodging the jaws of the beast as the snap for him, he slams another spike into place, and jumps back, dodging a lashing tentacle.

Up on the tower, you shift your weight, moving the tower underneath. It sways and groans but finally, it plummets, swinging down, As it does so, Ollian grabs the jaws of the beast, and punches it, left, then right. As Ollian sees the tower plummet, you on top, he delivers an uppercut, sending the head up-

just so it can meet the tower coming down. Between the powerfist and the tower, its head is reduced to a shrieking orchestra of steel.

As the tower hits the head, you jump, landing on Ollian. As one, you turn towards the mangled, shrieking head, and fire.

The shots ring out, and the beast goes silent.

There's silence.

Then cheers as the troops erupt in happiness. They have survived, all of them, and rush towards you, as do the Asartes and Sororitas. They crowd the beast, the crowd the dead heretics, but they crowd you and Ollian as you sit back, exhausted from recent events. You are surrounded by joy and hope.

you decide to sit back, hearts still racing from the event.

As troops rush up to shake your hand, both the Chaplain and Sister Rosa come up. The Chaplain grabs your hand, a mere twig compared to his power armor.

“My thanks, Commander. The Emperor has led us to glory today. Were you a Space Marine, you would be a champion of the Emperor himself!”
“WHAT ABOUT ME? I'M A SPACE MARINE TOO, YOU KNOW.” Ollian speaks, a sound of complaint in my voice.

“Well, we could upgrade your weapons?” the Chaplain says, slightly confused.

“HOW ABOUT YOU LISTEN TO MY ADVICE, FOR ONCE. AND NOT BARGE IN, BOLTERS BLAZING.”

“I'll take it under consideration.”

“YOU ALWAYS DO.” Ollian says resignedly.

Sister Rosa stares at you and speaks.

“it seems I misjudged you, guardsmen. Your actions have lead to victory today. But be wary, for chaos is everlurking. You could never hope to match a sister's constant vigilance.” With that she storms off, issuing orders to the sisters of battle.

“to answer your question, guardsman Bolta. I do not come here often. Our Convent was deployed here in response to the forces of Chaos. I do not see why you need to apologize for not seeing any females, and the gender ratio on the planet is 1.79 to 1 in the favor of males. I am doing fine, as the god-emperor wills, and I do not wear a helmet to show chaos I am not afraid to face them.”

as she continues walking, you pause. You weren't expecting such a serious answer to a joke. As she walks ahead of you on the battlements, she pauses, and slumps against the wall.
“But I am tired, guardsman Bolta. And though the god-emperor wills otherwise, I do...feel afraid. "
She sits down, and hugs her knees.
“I have a sister. She is still going through her training on our convent ship, on the outskirts this planet. By all rights, I should be by her side, defending her and whom she holds dear. But I am here, because the Emperor wills it. My sister is so far away, and I wonder, will I see her again?” With this, the beginnings of tears spring to her eyes. What do you do?

The Emperor protects us, lends us strength, and calls us to battle. I somehow doubt He expects us to be emotionless machines."

You hug her, and speak. The position is awkard with the power armor, but it's the thought that counts. As the two of you stand on that battlement, she finds her support in your arms for a moment. In that moment, in her moment of weakness, you were there. You supported her, and held her close.

You were her shield.

But that moment is gone all too fast, and she slips out of your arms. “Come, Guardsman Bolta. We must finish our patrol.” You walk after her, and this time, she walks confidently, sure of her step and place.
>>
>>21212343
The two of you finish your patrol wordlessly, and arrive back to camp. There, you see everyone in a rush. The Chaplain looks at you two, and speaks. “New orders. The Convent of The Purifying Flames is being attacked. We're to reclaim the ship.”

Next to you, Sister Althea stiffens. Sister Rosa's voice confirms what you guess.

“Come sisters! We must reclaim our Convent from the Forces of Chaos!” Althea falls in with the rest of them, and soon after, troop transports arrive. Your men board and enter, Ollian attached to the bottom of the ship. As the transport flies out of the area, climbing higher and higher, until the factory is a bare speck, you look out the window.

You see the stars.

You've always stared at the stars as a child, and wanted to fly among them. Now, here you are, amidst the wreckage of space.

It's not nearly as beautiful as you thought. Cruisers lie in battle, wreckage flies across the space, and the realm of space is just as chaotic as the battlefield below. Down below, the world lies in flames.

Then your ship is hit.

As you are rocked back and forth, the pilot screams. “We have to evacuate! Suits are underneath seats!”

There are 28 men on this transport, with ollian attached underneath.

What do you do?

Grab a space suit, put it the fuck on.

Make sure all our men do the same, if we have some rope or cords of some sort tie us all together. Keep The Glare close just incase Shit Gets Real.

>>
>>21212453
Slapping on the suit, it forms a quick environmental seal around you, protecting you from the hazards of space. As another transport pulls up, you transfer the men to it. You move the pilot in, and move to transfer,

when a missile explodes, shaking apart the two ships. As your ship careens through a debris field, the other ship pulls away, dodging the metal obstacles flying across space.

“I'M STILL HERE, COMMANDER.” Ollian says.

Sitting in the pilot seat, you take control of the ship, and head towards the Rendevous point. The ship commands are familiar to an ore hauler, and you careen across the wreckage. You sigh, for the way is clear, then the target lock signal alarms. You look around.

“HELDRAKE, COMMANDER, TO OUR SOUTH.” Ollian announces.

You look to see a metal bird hit your ship, ripping the hull like paper. In a few more hits, the ship will be nothing but Rubble. Ollian is strapped to the bottom. What do you do?

You fire the engines, informing Ollian of your plan. The methodical thump-thump-thump of his Plasma cannon is heard, and the two of you zip through the debris field with ease. A dogfight ensues between you and the Heldrake, weaving between asteroids. However, it gradually gains on you, and its jaws are so very close. then Ollian lands a shot down the maw, which disorients it, causing it to fly blindly at you.

Finally, you, spot ahead of you an asteroid with a hole through it. Gunning the engine, the ship roars in response, and you zip through.

The heldrake is not so lucky, crashing into the asteroid. As you and Ollian pull up, you see yet another heldrake menacing the ships near the rendezvous point.

"MY BINDINGS HAVE COME LOOSE, COMMANDER. ANY MORE MANEUVERING WILL RIP ME CLEAN OFF."

>>21212769
"WERE I TO GET INSIDE, COMMANDER, THE SHIP WOULD BE UNBALANCED. THIS IS THE ONLY POINT THAT CAN HOLD ME."

You look around, and indeed, he's right. the ship is little more the controls and an engine, now. Down below, Ollian waits, attached by a single strut to the frame. the controls on in the cockpit can release him, launching him in whatever direction the ship is currently headed, due to physics.

The Heldrake is in front of you, and some guns are still operational.

“Hey, Ollian. We're to far to reach right?” You say, thumbing the button.

“YES. WE WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH IT FOR COMBAT PURPOSES.”

“then how about a throw?” you mash the button, and Ollian is let loose. As he does so, you gun forward, eager to unleash fire upon the Heldrake.

Then the ship breaks. You fall backwards reaching for something, anything.

You grab onto Ollian.

“HOLD ON TIGHT, COMMANDER!” he roars, and the two of you fly towards the Heldrake. As Ollian fires with his Plasma cannon, you fire with your Bolt pistol, peppering the Heldrake. Then the two of you crash onto it, your velocity ramming you hard against the steel frame. As Ollian fires with abandon you pick a couple of soft spots to fire at. The heldrake twists with agony, and finally Ollian presses his gun against the main body and fires.

BOOM.
>>
>>21213157
Trhough the emptiness of space, you can hear the cannon cause the Heldrake to explode, hurling the two of you back through the hangar doors. Ollian hits first, shattering the metal, and you follow, careening into his frame. As the two of you step up, you look around. You are inside the hangar.

Surrounded by daemons. You clamber onto his frame, and fire with the pistol into the crowd. Ollian sweeps across the hanger destroying all. As the daemons circle you, you steel yourself against the onslaught.

It never comes.

The troop transports sweep in destroying the crowd with lascannons. As you and Ollian clear the rest, Troops disembark ,aiding your efforts. In the empty space of the hangar, you cannot discern where Althea is, for all are wearing helmets.the battle closes, and Sister Rosa issues orders. Everyone's HUD showing maps.

“Asartes! Clear the middle ground, following these tunnels. Guardsmen, take the lower hangars and vehicles. Sisters, we shall take the high ground, clearing all in wake. Everyone, meet up at the temple on this location of the ship! Go!”

“ALLOW ME.” Ollian says. Then he punches the doors, sending them flying into the next room. The squads enter, lasguns barking lightning, bolters erupting in fire, and Ollian and you attracting all the fire. Your group progresses down the hall, clearing doors and watching backs.

Yet it is not enough. A man to an unlucky shot here, one pounced on by surprise there. Each man lost is felt, but you retaliate, bringing the vengeance of the emperor tenfold. With a roar, the hangar doors open pulling the demons toward it. You cling to the console for dear life, shooting any deamon who wishes to grab on with your bolt pistol. You take Ollian, and bust through the wall.

Almost immediately, you feel out of place.

The temple is somehow untouched by the fight. It's almost peaceful. On the other side, you see a group of Adeptus Sororitas in priest clothes praying to the god-Emperor. You assume their faith stops daemons from entering. They notice you, and the hymn stops. Suddenly, a group of sisters burst through a side entrance, firing the way they came. As the doors shut, they breathe a sigh of relief and take off their helmets. Sister Rosa walks to the ones without power armor, and they begin discussing something, and the hymn starts up again. In the mean time, you move your men to other doors. Another set of doors is busted open by a space marine, followed by others, including the chaplain. He turns to Sister Rosa and speaks.

“Clear. No survivors on our path.”
“same here,” you say.
“Nor on ours.” Sister rosa says, shaking her head.

“I've talked with the Abbotess. Everyone here are all the survivors that they could find. We have two options. Either we retake the ship, or purge it with an exterminatus. Either way, the Emperor shall be pleased.

What do you two think?”

She says, turning towards you and the Chaplain.
>>

>>21213765
The ship shall be ours! The lives of a few men are worth little compared to the MIGHT of a starship.
>>
>>21213765
On the one hand a convent ship would be a potent resource. We could use it as a base and a place to keep civilians and train troops.

On the other hand we've got all the survivors we're gonna get so it might be more sensible to just grab everyone we can and blow the ship up after returning to the planet.

Ask the Abbotess and Marine Captain just how well the convent could defend itself from attack if we managed to reclaim it. If it's still a viable fortress it's worth saving. If not lets leave and take all the survivors we managed to save.
>>
Archived it.

Rolled 6

Losing the ship is not acceptable. We retake it.
>>
>>21213806
You point out the value of retaking the ship, and she agrees, as does the chaplain. While the ship has no weapons, it was designed to act as a medical ship, a valuable resource and will be well-defended if reclaimed, as others will spur to its rescue.

She nods. “very well. There are two routes left. One leads to the bridge of the ship, the other to storage. These routes should cover anything we missed. Gaurdsman-Commander, I shall defer to you. Which route will you take? And how shall you divide us?”

you consider your situation.

There are 12-wait, 11 sisters. Where's Althea?

Sister Rosa looks at your expression. And frowns. “One of us is missing. We last saw her run into the dormitory corridors, which are met by both these routes.”

So there are 11 sisters, 10 space marines, 109 guardsman and Ollian.
There are two routes, which meet up twice at the dormitories and dorms before splitting to their respective directions.

We need to keep the bridge out of enemy hands split up the guardsmen into 25 fire teams (teams of 4) and have them go through cargo with Brother Ollian as back up.

The Sisters, Space MArines, and 9 remaining guardsmen will stick with you. You will make your way to the bridge and do your best to keep it out of enemy hands.

Both teams will try to arrive at the same time.
>>
>>21213979

I don't see the point in splitting our forces when we don't have any sort of time limit. After we take the bridge, WE control the ship. It isn't moving. We could have a ForgeFiend spawn in the heart of the cargo hold.

We don't have unlimited time to do this, we just have enough time to keep the chaos forces from unleashing sorcery upon us. Just because we only saw Khornate berserkers doesn't mean there aren't sorcerers present in the chaos legions.

Down below, Ollian leads the way, providing moving cover for those behind him. The space marines are the vanguard, with a few behind as rearguard. As they advance down the hallways, enemies fall underneath their sure pace, bolters ringing out and cannon firing. The force proves effective.

Ollian encounters a large-sized room, filled with daemons. He holds his men from charging, and instead spur those with explosives to set them. As Ollian opens the door, a space marines throws them in, and the doors shut, followed by a muffled boom. Ollian opens the door, and to his satisfaction, the room is cleared, whether by the hole leading to space or the explosvies, he cared not.

“DO YOU SEE WHAT NOT CHARGING CAN DO, CHAPLAIN?” Ollian said, and the chaplain took in how effortless it was.

“I see, dreadnought-brother Ollian. Perhaps we should listen to you, after all.” he replies.

“PERHAPS YOU SHALL.” Ollian responds.

As Ollian progresses, he clears his sections with ease and efficency. The enemies are methodically wiped out, and slowly but surely. They advance. Finally, they arrive at the cargo hold. Ollian sends a scout to report, and he comes back.

“Hold full of daemons, and a couple of Dreadnoughts.”

ollian considers the situation, when the Chaplain speaks.

“I have a plan.”

“OH?” Questions Ollian.
>>
>>21214845
-A few minutes later-

Inside the Cargo Bay, daemons scramble fight as the dreadnoughts ready their weapons for war.
Suddenly, the doors open.

A sole Space Marine steps through, and promptly rushes back out.

All the daemons rush after him eager for the kill, as the Dreadnoughts ready themselves for attack.

The Space Marine twists and turns through the hallways of the deck, daemons close behind. He hurtles himself through a doorway to a hangar, and the daemons rush out.

Into the barrel of several dozen guardsmen, 10 or so bolters, and a Plasma Cannon. Needless to say, they are cut down mercilessly.

Meanwhile, back in the Cargo Hold, the Dreadnoughts admire their newfound space with the daemons gone. Suddenly, they hear a groaning noise, and Chainswords burst through the ground, creating a rectangle around them.

Then the floor falls from underneath them, and the find themselves falling into space, staring at a few Space Marines wearing chainswords and jet packs.

Inside the hangar, Ollian remarks to his chaplain.

“HOW DID YOU THINK OF THIS AGAIN?”

“To be honest, i'm not quite sure myself.” the chaplain replies.

“IN ANY CASE, I SHALL HEAD UP TO THE BRIDGE.” Ollian says and hurries off.
>>
>>21214865
As your group progresses down the hallway, men advancing, you are in the thick of the fighting. Even with all your tactics, you face off against an onslaught of daemons and marines. The Emperor's Stern Glare barks and fires, but the daemons seem endless. Your men are ill-equipped to face them, but struggle the best they can. As Sister Rosa issues orders, you do the same, advancing and adjusting to each situation. There is no rest, and no reprieve. Once you hit the dormitories, you search for survivors or Althea, and find neither. Overturning beds, and crates, you hit a small vent, with a girl in the back. Gesturing Sister Rosa over, she coaxes the girl out with a soft voice. Sister Rosa speaks to her, and looks to you.

“it seems this is Sister Althea's natural sister. Apparently, Sister Althea made her way here and managed to protect her sister, before being dragged off by daemons of chaos in the direction of the bridge.”

Your hand curls around your gun, and your grip it, white-knuckled.

“Let's go.”

You advance down the hallway, mind in a state of turmoil.

>Rage: They took her. They'll pay beyond belief.
>Resolute: She's gone. We'll reclaim the ship in her name. No one else will die.
>Rational: Stick with the plan. As long as you follow the plan, everything will work out, right?
>>
>>21214877
Rage. If she was dragged off in the direction of the bridge, it's possible that she wasn't killed yet - being dragged there to be raped by Slaaneshi daemons or whatever. Though this does seem like a distinctly Khornate invasion...

But Rage towards the Bridge in any event. Get Ollian and soldiers to cover your Rage.
>>
Rolled 75

>>21214877
The Emperor's fury runs through us. This is not a screaming rage or one of rashness but of cold vengeance. They shall die in the Emperor's name and the last thing they hear shall be her name upon our lips. The plan shall be followed but all who stand in our path will die.
>>
Rolled 75

>>21214877
Cold Rage: They took her, so they'll pay dearly for that; however, there is no reason to lose our rationality.
They'll no doubt be trying to use her in the fight somehow, either as a shield or a decoy.
This is when entering from unexpected entrances will come into play. If they expect us from the front they'll position her near the front, and as a result give us a clear shot at whatever is near her. Now that Ollian is coming towards the bridge when have three possible entrances.
>>
>>21214920
>>21214939
Well we barely knew Althea but she did at least seem to like and trust us. A servant of the emperor knows that he is perfection incarnate. His Love, his joy, his sorrow, his edespair, his rage, and yes, even his hate, all are natural.

Let us take our rage, and hold it, hone it, refine it. Turn it into an instrument of the Emperor's will. Let it be focused and used to further the goals of the Emperor.

No More Innocent Dead, no More casualties, no more hostages. Not on our watch.

We are the Emperor's Will Made manifest and it is time these demons learned what the rage of the Emperor's servants means.
>>
>>21214939
>>21215062
>>21215074
You head down the hallway, advancing steadily, Daemons rush at you, and you fire, feeling naught but the kick of recoil against your shoulder. As their claws rise, you answer with a chainsword in the gut, or a bolter round in the face. This is neither the fires of Khorne, nor the corruption of chaos, but the Holy Fury of the Emperor himself. You are a lance in the night, your weapons firing out the gleam of resistance and rage of mankind himself, arcing down the dim hallways. Finally, the doorway of the bridge is before you.

What is your next move?
>>
>>21215062
I should add that blind rage is for those with several layers of armor on top their fleshy bits. We lack such armor and as such we should do what we have been doing so far: use our head and agility to make the enemy fight at a disadvantage..
>>
>>21215145
We have chainswords and people who know the bridge better than we do. Pair up with those people and make some entrances. Armored types in first, squishy guys in next.

TL;DR
Cut some new entrances in the bridge and take the place from as many sides as possible. There's important shit in that room so the most we can use in the way of explosives would be flashbangs.

So use weapons that aren't likely to damage important equipment and swarm in their with as much use of cover and reasonable tactics as humanly possible.

>>21215252
You pull out your chainsword, and gesture for others to do the same. Then your sword moves in a circle, hewing through plasteel. Kicking down the rubble left, you charge through. Swords cut through daemons like paper, and you move ever-forward, your blade arcing through the wind, cutting down all who stand in your way. Finally, you look upon the man responsible.

At the front of the Bridge stands a Chaos Space Marine. Staring at him, your hair is put on edge. Every part of your body is frozen in fear, He stands, tall and armored, the psychic energy crackling around him. He wears not the Red of a Khornate, but the blue of Tzeentch.

“Just as planned.” he laughs.

“Tell me, human, what were you expecting? Some sort of final showdown? A chance to avenge your fallen comrade? Did you expect your rage to allow you to kill me rage for the one who lies behind me?” He points beside him.

It's Althea. Her hands are nailed to the Imperial Eagle. She's alive, but barely. Her eyelids flicker, and you drop your sword and run towards her.

“Althea!”

“Not so fast.” the Marine flicks his finger and a burst of psyker energy sends you sprawling to the ground. Others who rush are hit with same blast of energy.

“You are alive for but one purpose. To spill the blood of Khorne followers, and fulfill my master's plan. I will grant you this ship, and my section of the fleet will withdraw, under one condition. I go free, to continue to spread my master's work. I'll even return the girl unharmed, save for those nails through her hands.”

“Do we have a deal?” The Chaos marine looks at you, and you alone.

“no.”

The Marine glares. “What did you say?” With a flick of his finger, he drives you into the ground. The pain is exquisite.

But you fight.

As you struggle to your feet, your very words, nay, your very soul deny this so called-solution.

You will not compromise.

You will not accept defeat.

You will save her.

You stand on your feet, despite the unholy forces he applies to you.

“Go fuck yourself with a chainsword.” You Point the Emperor's Stern Glare at him, and fire.

Boom.

The bridge is filled with a white light. As it clears, there is no chaos marine.

But there is no Althea, either.

A giant hole has been shot through the bridge windows, and what little air there is rushes out. As everyone pulls on their space helmets, you look outside to see the chaos marine flying towards another ship Althea in tow, and warp into it.

Then Ollian busts into the bridge.

You turn, and stare across empty space at the hull of the other ship.

“We're getting Althea back.”

“Commander Boltas, the ship isn't responding.it seems power has been cut.” You look at Ollian, and Ollian looks at you. There's one thing left to do.

“Get a shuttle ready. Me and Ollian are going in.” as the two of you head down towards the hangar bay, men rush ahead, getting a shuttle primed. Ollian whirls around and fires at the hangar door, blowing them open and sucking the troops outside. Dodging a Heldrake snapping at his body, he fires again, sending himself careening into the hangar, and out of your vision. Looking around, you see the Chaos Sorcerer touch what appears to be the bridge of the ship, and get sucked into it.

You let go of whatever weapon was there, and spin to the side as a blade comes crashing down. The sorcerer pants with exhaustion, and as you scramble to your feet, a bump makes itself known in your pocket.

A few laspacks.

As you dodge the blows, the Sorcerer launches a vicious swing that jams itself into a wall console. As he struggles to pull the blade free, you pop the top of a laspack, and switch a few wires nearby. As it pops and sizzles, you feel you hand grow hot, but you ignore the pain. Finally, when the pack is white-hot, you spot the Emperor's Stern Glare in the rubble. You toss the laspacks at the sorcerer, roll for the gun, and fire.

“NOOO-”

BOOM.

Miles away, On the Convent ship, those in the bridge are blinded by a brilliant light.

Down in the Hanger Ollian's sensors register the lights, and he roars with redoubled fury, taking on the two Heldrakes at once. As he smashes one into the other, he pulls the head off, and throws it, destracting the second long enough to blast it's head off.

In an escape pod, Althea is pulled out by her fellow Sisters, and she stares at the other ship.

You see a blinding flash, and the world goes black.

You are in darkness. Far in the distance, a light floats. You head toward it. It dances, guiding you away . as you get closer, it gets brighter, until once again, a flash consumes your vison. You are left with these words.

“I SHALL HELP HE WHO HELPS HIMSELF.”

You open your eyes to see a sensor in front of you, blinking. You're alive. As you pull yourself up, you body aches with pain.

But you can still move.

The beep of a sensor grabs your attention.

You look to it, and can see the forces of chaos massing at a certain point on the hive world. As you cough blood, you realise this ship is still operational. The weapons are disabled, the vox won't send out any signals, but the ship still flies.

What do you do?

You start a prayer but end it as quickly.

The emperor is with you and hears. You need not ask for what is given freely.

The battle barge turns, engines firing. As it slowly hovers into position outside the planet, the engines stop.

Then burn, brighter then ever. the ship launches itself toward the planet.

Onboard the Convent of the Purifying Flame, Sister Althea rushes towards the comm-station and grabs the vox.

Onboard the Chaos battle barge, you hear the vox speak, and Althea's voice rings out.

Bolta, is that you? Answer me, please..." her voice chokes.

You pick up the radio, knowing that, this just might be the last time you speak with her.

What do you say?

>>
>>21217978
I dunno. I mean, that would be a nice ending; but we kinda had the feeling we'd go down with the ship. I think we should stick with that. Our death will have more meaning.

There's that, and the fact that the vox doesn't work. So we can't really communicate.

You pick up the vox, and thumb the button. Nothing. You hear Althea barely holding back tears on the other side.

“Bolta, if you can hear me, I-”

The radio cuts short.

The message may not have travelled, but you know what was meant. You draw your last laspack, and load it into the Emperor's Stern Glare.

You point your gun at the sky, and fire.

There are no more escape pods. You knew that when you saved her.

You place your hands on the console, and the weapons glow online.

The vox crackles to life.

“Bolta, please...answer me...” You hear crying on the other side.

“Althea, will you marry me?” You say, your voice steady.
“Bolta, I...” She stammers, unsure of what to say.

As you activate the weapons, you speak once more.

“Althea. Will you marry me?”

“Yes.” She says breathlessly.

“Chaplain. If you are there, can you wed us?” You ask over the vox, fingers moving to trigger the cannons.

“Yes. In the name of the emperor, yes.” he speaks, voice clear.

“Then do it.” your hands trigger the hellmissles, and move onto the next set of weapons.

See, I like threads like this because it uses the grim-dark 40k we're used to, kicks it in the balls, and we just go all out action-adventure fun. We get a girl, kill the bad guy, lead people, and be a hero. Something we never usually see or do in the cannocial 40K universe.

But this is 40K. we can have our fun shenanigans, and suspend our disbelief about the setting for a bit, but we have to come back down to what the setting is. In the end, there will always be the grim-darkness of the far future. Dying in a blaze of glory is one of the best way we can go in such a setting.
>>
>>21218127
As the battle barge descends upon the hive world, weapons firing, a voice rings out on all the vox-radios.

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today-”

the ship fires the lancer, piercing the horde below.

“to witness the sacred act of union between a man and his wife.”

Down the battle barge descends, guns raining fire down below.

“let us say, that in the name of the Emperor, their love was neither physical nor fleeting-”

the cannons ring out in agreement.

“But spiritual and pure.”

the guns fire off a stocatto.

“Do you, guardsman Bolta, take Sister Athlea of the Adeptus Sororitas as your lawfully wedded wife?”

You pause from your actions.
>>
>>21218136
“I do.”

“And do you, Sister Althea, take Guardsmen Bolta of the Defense Force as your husband?”

“I do.”

“then by the power invested in me, as a servant of the God-Emperor of mankind, I declare you husband and wife.”

The ship is in full tilt. As it rushes towards the horde, guns firing the moment of impact draws ever closer.
“Althea, I love you.”

a voice rings out on the vox, followed by a hiss of static. On the planet below, the Battle-Barge has collided with the horde, an explosion running across the surface planet. The world is consumed by fire.

Then it grows silent.

Well I can see her carrying his skull with her as an inspiring relic.

I'm going to assume that The Emperor's Stern Glare is an artifact sent by the Emperor himself to his chosen heroes.

It's out there, waiting for a Guardsman in need, prepared to take up the fight against the Ruinous powers.

and Bolta, Bolta is now the Saint of PDF troopers everywhere. it is to him they turn their prayers when 'nids, orks and chaos invade the worlds of the Imperium, hoping that he'll grant him just a fraction of the glory that he burned with for a single day.

Before the glory of one day of faith.

If we manage to live through this, which isn't likely, though if we do we're probably down at least a limb or two, we're naming our first son Ollian.

Tzeentch will lay out plans for millenia, going so far as to manipulate the humidity of a cool summer evening.

Khorne fills his followers with bloodlust and tempts with dreams of power.

Slaanesh offers pleasure unending and life everlasting in the warp.

Nurgle offers rot and comfortable despair.

But the Emperor, The Emperor offers purity, light, and glory, for a single moment he can make you shine like a dying star.

and that single glorius moment is worth more than every eon of pointless struggle that the ruinous powers enjoy.

Ave Imperator, one and all!
>>
>>21218578
Up above, the ships roar into activity. Troop transports descend, orders are issued, and tears are wiped. Down below, you pull yourself from the wreckage, and sit back, waiting for help to come.

You don't wait very long at all.

As troops move to reclaim the city, a transport lands in front of you. The doors bust open with a kick from a dreadnought, and a crowd of people rush towards you. One in particular zips forward, launching herself at you.

It's Althea.

Your meeting is wordless, save for the sounds of her sobbing, and the brush of your arms as you hold her tight.

Finally you stand up, and hold her hands.

As the group stands around you, Chaplain steps forward. Two of you look at him.

As Sister Rosa glares at chaplain from the other side, he puts on as good as a smile he can, and says

“You may now kiss the bride.”

With that, he steps back hastily.

As the two of you draw closer, the moment seems to draw on for eternity.

Then you swoop in, and the ceremony is completed.

You stand back, and take in the moment.
>>
>>21218629
Then another troop transport arrives.

A man wearing an officer's coat exits, carrying himself with military air. He glares at you.
“Guardsman Bolta?”
“Yessir..” You reply.

“I am General Caver of the Planetary Defense Force. Are you the one responsible for this incident, as well as the recapture of Sector 14?”

“Yessir. With the help of these Asartes and Sororitas.” You respond.

“And you crashed a chaos battle barge into the khorne troops?”

“Yessir.”

“care to explain?”

“I'm not quite sure how, sir.”

“Hmmph.” He looks you up and down.

Finally, he speaks.

“Well, I won't look a gift tank I the barrel, as it were. Consider yourself dismissed.”

He turns, pauses, and turns back.

“You'll need these, Captain.” he says, emphasizing the title, dropping a captain's insignia in your hand.

With that, he walks back to his troop transport, and flies off.

The men look at you. You look at them back, and speak.

“What're you standing around for? We have a job to do, let's do it!”

the crowd heartily voices a “YESSIR!” and you file back into the transports, ready for orders. Ever vigilant, ever watching.

The Emperor Protects.
