Good evening /tg/! Good god, I've got a lot to apologise for today! For starters, I'm so sorry that it's late; you can blame my sister for hogging the kitchen and preventing me from getting any dinner for WAY longer than she actually needed.

Second, I must apologise for completely forgetting the game last Saturday! I really have no excuse; I was just so caught up with everything else that day, it completely slipped my mind. Nevertheless, I'm here now and ready to run!

Previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21182081/

Who's ready to play Civilization Quest?
>>
>>21256972

Back from a minor case of food poisoning, baby! Damn, Thursday night was an adventure, had fever and felt like I was stuck in a freezer, not under covers. That, and me sticking my open eye in the sheets so bad that only in the morning I was able to see properly with it. Still doesn't beat my salmonella experience, known among veterans as "the black shit era".

Anyways, here I am!
>>
I'm here.
>>
My body is ready. I thought you had stopped the civ threads, I was so desperate that I started my own called Company Civ.
>>
>>21257088
Good god, I'm sorry to have given you such a turn! As I said, I'll keep running these as long as people keep playing them. I do try to make a thread every designated day, but last Saturday was just so hectic...

>>21257017
Good grief! Sorry to hear that. I've never really been too sick, save for a handful of times. The benefits of a high con score (but low HP... Go figure).

>>21257050
Good to see you, anon!

As soon as we have another person or two, I'll kick this off!
>>
>>21257222
>As soon as we have another person or two, I'll kick this off!

OP, I suggest you run the game whenever you have one person or more. Sometimes, you wont just have a lot of people participating at the beginning and more join up later on.
That way you don't keep the quest stalling and some people waiting.
>>
>>21257222
I suggest kicking it off now, people weren't excepting you to come out at the moment so you'll probably have a low turn out today.
>>
>>21257317
>>21257397
Point taken. Let's rock and/or roll, whichever comes first.

>When last we left the game

Rina, the priestess of Chani, the river goddess, as well as a small party of the village's wise men and hunters, took a trip downriver to the River Brothers tribe, with an aim to meet with them about the strangers further downstream. After some brief confusion and swift arguing back-and-forth between the tribe, it was finally decided not launch an attack with the River Brothers' help at the present time. This decision was met with much relief and concern amongst the elders of their hosts and Rina's party were offered the hospitality of the village for the night.

It is now morning and the River Brothers village is starting to wake up. Once Rina's party has breakfasted and readied themselves for the day, they discuss their next move.

Do they...
A) Re-attempt to secure the help of the River Brothers in launching an attack on the tribe downstream
B) Open another topic of discussion with the River Brothers elders
C) Head off to the Lion Tribe and try to speak with them
D) Head home and declare this whole enterprise to be over
>>
>>21257533
A
>>
>>21257533
B

What else did we need to talk to the River Brothers about?
>>
Rolled 3

>>21257670
Entirely up to you.

Normally, I'd wait for more votes, but we need to keep this frontpage'd, so I'll be rolling for this one.

1-3 option A
4-6 option B

Please have your arguments ready for presenting to the River Brothers elders.
>>
>>21257965
So we talk about war some more awesome. I think we need to make a war pact but not necessarily make the attack when the time comes just to have a back up plan.
>>
>>21257965
> And my tradition of low rolls is continued

Although they suffered a setback, the decision is made by the wise ones to try another round of negotiations with the River Brothers. Maybe this time, they can convince them to join in the attack!

Please make your arguments for the elders now. A popular majority may still try to veto this course of action, but this is the last chance to do so!
>>
>>21257620
Goddamit, I remembered now. What's up with all this war nonsense? We barely meet the guys and BAM, war?
>>
>>21258048
Well we know river brothers that you a reluctant to join us in battle we feel the need to make a pact that we will not fight each other. Also We fear that this new tribe with their arrogance might feel that they are stronger than us and will attack. We would feel safer if you would entire in a pact to send us aid if we are attack or if we attack before they can attack us.
>>
>>21258168
they didn't join our tribe after we came up to them out of the blue and started bragging. therefore we must show up with an army and strongarm them into joining us.

Because that is the most reasonable course of action.
>>
One of the reasons that river brothers may understand are limited ressources. Remind em how close to starvation they where before, surely they dont want to repeat that again just because some new Tribe dont want to play by the (longfang) rules.
>>
>>21258248
No we want to be ready to make war because they won't join use that is two completely two different things.
>>
>>21258292
not really. I'm fairly sure they were open to trade, but their chief wanted to stay independent.

And for some reason people decided that that was reason enough to ready an army so that if they refuse us again, we'll go and kick their asses.
>>
>>21258344
Why are you so apposed to war.
>>
>>21258437
why do you want a war?
>>
>>21258480
Resources, the potential for new gods and technology, increasing the numbers of our tribe, and an easy labor force.
>>
>>21258437
I asked first but not to be childish I will answer.

The reason I want war is because it could mean a whole set of resources it will would be good to improve our relation with Groza. The leader was very rude and before you say we were rude also we really weren't we were just said what we had done maybe showing off a little their was no need to for him to treat us the way he did. I would like to be ready for war and if war breaks out I would like to be the early bird.
>>
Alright, as it's pretty clear to me that no overall consensus is going to be achieved in a hurry on this issue (the point has been argued for nearly a whole thread now), I'm going to use the "I'm the GM, I end arguments," card. Unless consensus can be achieved within the next few minutes, the NPCs and heroes will finish this situation themselves.
>>
>>21258567

Is there no way to reach a diplomatic outcome to this? I like to exhaust all other options before we resort to violence.
>>
>>21258586
How rude for someone to show some strangers who's the boss in his own home! Preposterous!

We basically know nothing about their military potential. Before putting thoughts of war into people's mind, perhaps you should actually create a stronger military. Not to mention that Trym doesn't enjoy the idea
>>
>>21258614
I am fine with points being debated like this, but I'm afraid I can't let the entire RP bog down in one issue; at some point, I have to step in to move things along.
>>
>>21258638

Tell the elders that they need the resources the other tribe has or they'll starve. Give them something valuable as insurance so they know you won't betray them and then get ready to fight.
>>
>>21258586
If we want resources wouldn't we try trading first? And he was rude because WE were rude. we didn't even ask them about themselves, we just showed up and started bragging and said that they should join us, so of course the chief will be rude right back.

And I'm for being ready for war, but there's not a whole lot of evidence that they are going to attack us first.

I'm just saying. before we engage in hostile action, we should try to be diplomatic.
>>
We need to make a stand and say we won't be bullied around.
>>21258637
We are trying to get a bigger military by making a pack with the river brothers.
>>
If you guys remeber the last thread we were going to prepare for war and in fall of next year if we have not improved relations with the other tribe we will attack them.
>>
>>21258734
then just say that in the eventuality of war, we should be prepared. not that we should go off and attack some random tribe for literally no reason other than "They were slightly rude to us, and we want their stuff."
>>
>>21258753
That is basically why we had the gulf war what could go wrong.
>>
Putting it to vote.

A) All in favour of continuing a military build-up (not necessarily an attack)
B) All in favour of forgetting the issue for now

> And the tie is BROKEN. Now you just have to convince THEM of that.

Nali and the wise ones return to the elders with a renewed argument. Rather than simply advocating an attack, they ask that the River Brothers contribute to a joint force of warriors, to act as a safeguard against the worst happening.

The elders shake their heads however, "We are not so naive as you might think. A band of warriors could well be used as a threat or a weapon. You presume too much to think we would contribute to such a thing to be used against a people we have not even met! The River Brothers will give you an answer once we have had a chance to see with our own eyes what these strangers are like.

How will Rina respond?
> Specifics or no cigar
A) Try to convince the River Brothers to act now
B) Threaten the River Brothers into complying
C) Accept the argument and move onto a new topic
D) Accept the argument and leave
E) Other
>>
>>21259661
C) Fine see for yourself. but when you are deciding what to do with this tribe think about who saved you when you were starving. Also are we still on for the party after winter happens.
>>
>>21259661
Balls... RINA and the wise ones return to the elders.

My apologies. I think I'm running too many different characters these days. I have to keep a handle on my alt-aholism
>>
>>21259661

Accept their terms. You've tried to help them but they will not listen to you, leave it to rest. We need to move on; if we need to trade supplies with them, we need to do it now and just leave.
>>
>>21259826
Although the war vote went otherwise, what he says is sensible enough. I don't like endangering a close ally for the sake of something so abstract
>>
> Only vote gets it.
>>21259721
The elders confirm that they are still willing to attend the celebrations after the winter, but after a few more pleasantries, the conversation winds down to a close. Rina and the rest of the party then leave, heading back upstream.

Will they
A) Continue to the Lion Tribe
B) Go back home <End Turn>

B
>>
>>21260267
A) lets do this round 2 no but seriously lets improve our relationship with the lion tribe.

The party makes a brief stop-off at the village to re-supply before heading out, across the river and towards the Lion Tribe. It's only a matter of days later when they reach the Lion village and are greeted cordially by their crow shaman. "We are growing somewhat used to your tribe visiting these parts," he muses, "But not so often to visit our village and not in such a group... What brings you here now?"

Translators are not required; the crow shaman can speak your tongue. How will the party respond?
> Use specifics!
A) Make request

C) Cultural exchange
D) Discuss military
E) Make agreements
F) Other

C) We give them our calendar and the writing system. In return ask that they teach us to be able to smith better.

D) Ask that they make a pact with use that if we go to war with this other tribe that they will accompany us

E) Ask that they join us for a festival at the end of winter and tell them the river brothers will be there.
>>
>>21260855
Howdy, glad I made it in time, I was afraid this thread had ended, and after I'd spent the whole night last time arguing too. Anyway, have we shared music with the lion tribe? Do they already have music? Even if they do, sharing our different styles might be good for cultural exchange. So C. Also, F) Ask them how our tribal members digging for copper are doing. Since they've spent so much time over here, they might be more friendly, or knowledgeable about the people of the tribe.
>>
>>21261016
Agreed
>>
>>21261082
The Lion tribe are quite interested in the few musical instruments the party brought. Their own style isn't much different from yours, but they seem interested in the few crude pipes that the party brought, accompanying them with a lively drumbeat.

> Mis-understanding there; the tribe doesn't have people mining copper all the time. Parties come and go, as and when the metal is needed

>>21261016
The Lion tribe doesn't know any method of using copper that is particularly more advanced than the Wolfsbane tribe. It turns out that they only relatively recently discovered the secret too, though they had encountered it before in another tribe. Sadly, they wiped said tribe out, stealing the copper tools and weapons, but lacking the knowledge to make any more. They do however welcome the secrets of the calendar and ideograms, though only a handful of them show much interest in the ideas.

The Lion tribe agrees to the feast at the end of winter with little trouble at all! They seem positively eager to join in such an event. They are slightly more reluctant to throw themselves into any defensive pact, but only barely. They demand only that they get a fair share of any plunder that is won during a join battle.

Having secured the Lion Tribe's support, Rina and the party leave for home.

> Too much diplomacy! On with some action!
>>
>>21261604
Let their blunder with the copper be a lesson to us- nothing is truly gained without proper knowledge
>>
>>21261656
That's why you keep wise ones alive, so they work for you after you defeat the tribe. Wipe out the warriors keep the rest for labor and knowledge. We are a lot more level headed than their tribe.
>>
>>21261768
So... slaves? Is- is that what we're doing?
>>
>>21261808
nothing wrong with slavery it gets shit done.
>>
>>21261808
Yes, nearly every ancient culture had them. We don't have time for civil rights. We just don't treat the slaves terribly, simply as a work force under our command.
>>
>>21261834
>>21261808
>>21261768
I am not going to object to slavery OOC. On a personal note, I find it to be abhorrent, but ifthe tribe decides to go for it, it's a legitimate approach to labour. I WILL however, do my level best to represent both its positive AND negative aspects. I'm remaining neutral here. My only purpose is to provide the world. YOU provide the direction the Wolfsbane tribe takes.

Slavery is a terrible thing, but having a large labor force just has far too many benefits. Besides, we don't have to treat them like scum, no rape and slaughter. Just make it clear they work for us now.
>>
>>21262048
Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
E) Hold a cultural event (specify)
F) Craft specific objects
G) Send envoys to another tribe
H) Other
I) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>21262054
So goes the theory. Remember; your people are not automatons. Humans are capable of great good and great evil
>>
>>21262060
B) Send people out to fish
B) I'm using a double the normal amount here. Make it an extravagant affair, send tons of people men women and children to go out and collect food and fish. It should be a tribal affair, like a hunting cultural event hybrid.
D) I'm going out on a limb here, give the wise ones full access to the forge for a few weeks. let them make anything that comes to mind, basically any idea that tickles their fancy. it'll probably waste a lot of copper and have a lot of bad ideas, but hopefully something useful will come out of it. Basically I'm saying sacrifice a large amount of copper for the possibility of stumbling upon something useful.
>>
>>21262078
That's why we need to keep the Lion Tribe in check and enforce a strict honor code in ours (which with Groza won't be a problem. he is very against hurting the weak and defenseless).
>>
>>21262060
So it's fall now and the fish should be running.

B. Fishin' time.
B. Gather them berries for the wise ones needs.

did we ever craft a tall fenced enclosure for the deer? If not.
F. Tall fenced enclosure for the deer.

>>

I change my research one to the construction of the tall fenced area.

>>21262054
This is how America became the bad guys of the world. Can tribe Wolfsbane please not become the antagonists of our little story? Because all we seem to be talking about is imposing our own will upon others, and crushing others to keep them from advancing. We might as well be twirling our mustaches nefariously.
>>
>>21262419
I, personally, don't think the idea of pressing for the immediate conquest of new tribes is all that great of an idea either. Especially since we clearly aren't in control of the ones we've been trying to gain for a while now.
>>
>>21262161
I second this
>>
>>21262161

ill third this
>>
>>21262503
Agreed. We've managed to make friendly with two tribes, lets not press our luck, and just keep trying to bring what we have into something that could actually intimidate any possible enemies we may have in the future, so we never actually have to go to war, or destroy entire tribes for no reason.
>>
>>21256972
We should twirl our mustaches nefariously.
>>
It is with great relief that the villagers take to the water and start fishing. With food running so low in the village, the haul of fish is a great boon. Likewise, the berries from the forest, for so long, more or less un-touched, make for a wonderful addition to the village's diet. One of the elders is seen almost weeping for joy, happier than he's been in months!

In between the great fishing and gathering expeditions, the tribe also sets to work, trying to construct a pen to house deer in. The end result looks like it will be almost as tall and robust as the village walls..! And just as laborious to construct.

And I am afraid that's all for tonight folks! I am absolutely shattered over here.

I'll be honest though; I am having the time of my life watching you guys think things through. I really should have majored in sociology. Anyway, I'm having a blast and again, I apologise for forgetting Saturday's thread. I promise I'll try not to let it happen again.

On that note, the next thread is on THURSDAY the 25th at 1630 EST. I hope to see you all there and wish you a good night.

There may also be ways to secure an even more bountiful haul of fish, but I'm not telling you what they are!
