The enormous, crystalline tunnel suddenly stopped moving, the floating oval the party was standing on suddenly halted. You almost expected to fall over from it stopping so suddenly, but for some reason the momentum didn't bowl you over.

"We're there." Grayson said, and gently trotted down to the platform, and toward the doorway. With a glance to the tunnel, you, Kaliel, Marigold, Kristoph, and Kell followed.

When you finally reach the surface again you see that there are... hardly any buildings nearby, save for a single, enormous dome. The cracks in the road below was covered in a strange, purple grass, the only living thing you'd seen in the entire city.
"These are the last remaining plants that exist in the world." Grayson said. "Left here at the library's request."

"Hmm... I wonder if it would be a good tea." You say.
"I've no clue." Grayson said, as Lea came out of the tunnel, pulling her cloak tight around her.
"Maybe we can add that to the list." Leon said, climbing out of the tunnel.
"We're all here?" Grayson asked.
"I think so." Kristoph said.
"Then let us enter." Grayson said.
The tunnel was small and rather compact, and Kell had to stoop to climb in.
"Strange, it looked so large from the outside." Marigold said, and eventually, you reached a small chamber, with a pedestal sitting in the center, a wisp of light floating above it.
>>
>>21311342
"Is that it?"
>>
>>21311342
"Hello!"
Does it even speak Arcturan or Gift? Grayson can translate I suppose.
>>
"Is that it?" You ask, and examine the wisp of light floating above the pedestal. Grayson nodded. "Hello!"
In response, the wisp made a buzzing noise, and went red.
"Sorry, it doesn't speak this tongue." Grayson said. "One moment, I will give it my knowledge."
Grayson pressed his head up against the pedestal, and then the wisp buzzed again.
"Hello, hello." The wisp said. "I am the library, a great work, built by Aadaera's people. Since there is no queue this day, I will answer any of your questions that I am capable of!"

"Can you tell me about the Arakoatoa compact?"
"The arakoatoa compact was created many millenia before my creation- a spell that permeates the umbra- the afterlife- even now, forcing spirits who have been summoned to obey their summoner three times. The reason for this was the necromancer Kli'tak, which in this new tongue I now speak, would be translated to Endeavour."
"We are looking for something that can help Lea here build up magical discipline."
"Magical discipline, magical discipline... Tell me about your problems, Lea."
"Well... when I get too emotional, my power... comes out, and I can't control it." She responded.
"Simple. In any school on any sector in this world, there is a small chamber that you and your shell must hide within. It will quickly train you in a matter of minutes- from the outside perspective. From your own perspective, it may take many days or weeks. The nearest school is this way-" It said, and the wisp became a small map, a long red line pointing you to where you needed to go.

"Nine hundred and thirty six years, three months, two days, five hours, six seconds." He responded.
"Please, tell me about the great works."

"How many still exist, are on this world, and would be easily portable by a shell like mine."
"My registry has not been updated in a little bit less than a millenium. I apologize, I cannot know. There are only a hundred Great Works that are portable within a single humanform shell."
"There would not happen to be a book, scrolls, or... or something with all the world names that the Tower can take you?"
"We have done away with books and scrolls nearly a thousand and five hundred years ago- now, all data is contained within etheric storage." The library said. "The tower lists can only be read by a specialized guardian or myself."
>>
>>21311708
"How would I find great works?"
>>
"How would I find Great Works?"
"You would simply name the great work or the function of the great work that you request to me, and I will be able to inform you where it is and what functions it has. However, in some cases, it is classified information and I will be unable to give you any knowledge."
"Well, that's useful." Kristoph grumbled, sarcastically.
>>
>>21311838
Right. He doesn't know whether these things even still exist because his databanks haven't been updated for millennia but he can pinpoint their current locations for us.

"Could you provide me with records about former citizens? Specifically I'm looking for information about my mother, known as Intuition, daughter of Ego and Instinct."

"Who would be able to access classified information?"
"Elected officials, researchers, artificers, and registrar." The library said.
"Could you provide me with records about former citizens? Specifically I'm looking for information about my mother, known as Intuition, daughter of Ego and Instinct."
"Intuition was born approximately thirteen years before the famine, to Instinct and Ego. She was assigned the Guardian Cyan. She has used the Tower of Babel over six thousand times in the past five hundred years. Her last usage of the Tower of Babel was approximately seventeen years ago, to the world of Bottestra."

>>
"What can you tell me about Ego and Instinct?"
"Instinct was born three hundred years before the famine. She lived within the Great Work known as Joy's Heart for two hundred of those years, before crafting her own shell. Onyx was assigned to her. Ego was born two hundred years before the famine, and was able to craft his own shell immediately. Magenta was assigned to him. They were married fifty years before the famine. They had a daughter thirteen years before the famine, named Intuition. Instinct died of starvation less than a year after the famine, and soon after, Ego was registered as a criminal to arakoatoan government, to be killed on sight. There have been no records since then."
"Do you know anything about the Lost One in stasis Outside?"
"Classified information. I cannot answer your request."

We're totally researching. Plus we're the highest-ranking arakoatoa around so we can give ourselves whatever title we like. Might work.

>>

>>
"What does it take to become an elected official? Is it simply a majority vote?"
"Yes." It responded. "Votes must be undertaken by registered citizens once every decade, and the one most voted for becomes said elected official. The next time for voting will happen in approximately a week."
"I know what you're thinking." Grayson said. "And I don't believe it will work. You're not quite registered as a citizen."

"How does one register as a citizen, Grayson?" You ask.
"I don't remember..."
"How do I get registered?" You ask the library.
"You must carry arakoatoan magic within you, and you must be introduced by another citizen- most likely, one's parents at birth."
"Are there still living Arakoatoan you know of? Are there known ways they could have survived?"
"No ways." He said. "The famine was total- By my calculations, everybody connected to Joy's Heart would have starved, up to and including some of the lesser powered Great Works. The surviving Arakoatoa are those who have left through the Tower of Babel. I count eightteen. However, seventeen of those have been registered as criminals and are to be killed on sight, so those are not counted as true citizens."

No it isn't. It couldn't even tell us if they still existed or were on this world.

Also Aeriel taught Lea everything he knows so she can do the portal if we need it.

"Yes. I'm sure Daedalus isn't anything good." You say. "I'm getting that feeling too."
"We should go back to Psi sector." Grayson said. "It will take time even for whatever this Daedalus contingency is, to follow us. We should have enough time to get to a school when we're there."

Grayson bolted, and everyone followed him, making your way back down into the underpaths, and onto the oval. It shuddered, and then blasted off, as everything blurred.

"Perhaps." He responded. "I do not know what sort of Great Works you would want, and I will require some to do my job, and it also matters what sort of chaos you could cause with them. Only the more benign ones could you take."
"After you're done, where will you go? Do you want to come with us?"
"No, I am meant to hide within the core of this world, within Joy's Heart, for the next species of people to evolve here, alongside the rest of the Great Works. I will slumber for the billions of years required."
"Can you tell us anything about the Lost One?"
"I can." The voice responded. "The Lost One was first recorded twelve hundred years ago, when the Great Work called the 'World's Seal' was completed, allowing us to sense metadimensional phenomena. It appears to be an impossibly complex golem, carrying a Guardian of some sort. They exist in all times, and there is no functional method of removing them."

"Even I cannot move it." He said. "The tower to the functional part of the Great Work was built afterwards- the sphere of translocation magic cannot be moved by any force we are capable of. My purpose even specified to put no effort into destroying the sphere itself- it is undestructible and un-movable.
"What would you let me take?" You ask. "There can't be that many that are harmless and portable."
"Few Great Works, yes, but there are several minor works. Meditation chambers, carried within many schools and private institutions, and you may take as many as you require. Heatstones, and coldstones, which convert magic into heat, and heat into magic, respectively. My shells are checking over the portable Great Works in their registered locations, but it seems that most, if not all, of them are missing or destroyed."

"... No worse than when my master died." He responded. "President Hope. Her last act was to set up this contingency, before she starved."

"Yes. They will be in boxes at the top of the tower."
"I think we'll take some of the meditation chambers. How could we move them?"

Everyone looked at Kell.

'One place' is an entire world. The artifacts can be massively spread out. And who cares about cruxes anyway?

"Do you have access to the library's knowledge? Does Great Work mean artifact? How can one place have so many artifacts without causing cruxes?"
"I do, and it does. Cruxes are a metadimensional effect revolving around intent and purpose- only when artifacts are carried by a single being or group of beings is one caused. They are simply a signal that is given off when too much power is in a single person's hands. I do not understand how cruxes are a bad thing, or why they should be prevented."

"Does the law not have any leniency for them at all? It wasn't really their fault."

Pretty much. I got that we were meant to ask the library for specific things and Exabyte decided whether we could have them or not, but there's nothing specific that we need. We just came here to see if there was anything cool.
So now we have a neat tool for our wizard academy, enough heat crystals to make the entire Children nation our bitch, and refrigerators that actually generate power while preserving food. That's a decent haul.
>>
"Thank you very much, Daedalus."
"Why is this journey taking so long, anyway? The journey to the library took hardly any time."
"I am controlling thousands of trolleys at this moment." He said. "This one is one of them, and I have to slow it down to let the others pass."
"Are there any works here, great or minor, that can cause an object to defy gravity?"
"The underpath trolleys, which are collectively known as a Great Work. Sadly, they are much too large to fit into the Tower." He said.
"Are there any works here, great or minor, that can enhance one's ability to scry?"
"There was the Blue Fairy, but it was destroyed by the criminal Happiness." Suddenly, you slowed to a stop. "You have arrived." The glowing stone said, and then went dark.

Grayson warily led you out of the underpaths... and you can see the stars. Full of many-colored stars, so close, and large, and There, with nebulae hiding behind the stars, a long field of red-and-blue fields of smoke, melding calmly into purple.
"... It's beautiful." Marigold said, grinning up at it. "Grayson, I thought you said that the sky was always blue."
"It was..." Grayson said.
"I have deactivated the Great Work keeping the skies lit during night-time." Daedalus said.
>>
>>21313424
"Well that answers why there's so much magic here. But why did people build a great work to hide such an amazing sight?"
>>

>>21313424
"It's very pretty." Turn one of the stars purple.

Is everyone here, or have lea or kaluel disappeared again?

Stick our head in the meditation chamber.
>>
"Well, that answers why there's so much magic here. but why did people build such a great work to hide such an amazing sight?"
"It was deemed more energy-efficient to build a film around the world to catch the magic as it descends to this planet." Daedalus said. "And it was. But... this is your mother's homeworld. I thought you should see it's night sky, at least once."
You see several large-eyed birds tweeting around, scouting out every building, and when you look up to the massive, crystalline tower that was the Tower of Babel, you see several trollies hovering around the top of it. You look back behind you to make sure everyone was there, and they were. Grayson, Lea, Kaliel, Marigold, Leon, Kristoph, and Kell. You notice Lea looking up to the sky... and then she started crying, giving one of the large birds a tight, sudden hug, whispering 'thank you' to it.
>>
>>21313521
Let her have her moment.
>>
The bird whispers something back, and she pat it on the head, and it flew off.
"If there is anything else you need, do not hesitate to return." Daedalus said. "I should know more as I continue scouting."
"This way." Grayson said, and made his way back to the tower. As everyone stepped onto the hovering disk in the center, it suddenly shot upward, taking you to the top of the tower. You see large, cylindrical chambers on all sides, and four large, labelled crates- two in red writing, and two in blue. Hesitantly, Lea reached up into one, and pulled the chamber open, before climbing in.
"I guess I'm going to test this..." She said, and shut the chamber, with her inside. Immediately, runes burned themselves around the chamber itself, and it started humming.
>>
>>21313608
If it works, we should use one. Should help our wizardry, we seem to be pretty bad at focusing.
>>
>>21313608
I guess we should wait for her. I'm tempted to jump in one, and see what's there.
>>
>>21313641
We can do it later, on Arcturus
>>
A few minutes later, she climbed back out.
"It helps." She said. "It lets you... see, and hear, and feel your magic, and feel your... whims, and emotions, like it's something tangible. I think... I think these would be useful for the academy. I want one of my own, though."
Leon reached for one, but Kris frowned. "Let's wait until we get back to Arcturus with this haul." He said. "Erm... how exactly do we do this..."
"No problem." Daedalus said. "Everything is there, and you can leave any time. Simply say the name of the world you wish to go, and it should... feel out for where exactly you want to arrive."
>>
>>21313705
"Serpensal."
>>
>>21313705
"How long were you gone, Lea?"
>>
>>21313725
"Bottestra"
>>
>>21313705
<Lea, could you portal us home if we went to Arcturus instead?>
There's no way there isn't an incredibly fluffy teddy bear waiting on our bed for us. We never had time to pack or anything.
>>
>>21313745
Why would we want to go back to old Arcturus right now? We have a lot of luggage already.
>>
>>21313705
What happens if we name this world?
>>
"How long were you gone, Lea?"
"I don't know... an hour, maybe?" She asked. "Sorry I made you guys wait so long."
<Lea, could you portal us home if we went to Arcturus instead?>
<I... don't think so.> She said. <Now that I have my emotions again, even my wizardry is harder. Maybe another time.>
You look to the floating sphere of water, and take a deep breath.
"Serpensal." You say. It swirled, and then trembled, and became an enormous, sideways whirlpool, the liquid's spray shooting everywhere, as the center of the whirlpool slowly widened, showing you the field of the courtyard, of New Arcturus.

"I'll go through first." Kristoph said. "Tell everyone that the big items coming through aren't dangerous."
He hunched over, and climbed into the portal. Then he looked back, and gave you a thumbs up. Marigold looked to Kell, and the enormous troll grawwed, before picking up the large chamber and gently sliding them through the whirlpool. It stretched wider as he started fitting more objects through, as Kristoph and some of the orcish knights took a hold of things on the other end. Soon enough, the chambers were through, and then Leon started passing through the crates.
"That should be everything." He said, looking back to you.
You look over the edge of the tower again... and far, far in the distance, you see a bright white sun, slowly starting to rise. Laliel took your hand, and gave you a kiss. "It's beautiful, isn't it."
>>
>>21313780
We can send Leon home with the luggage.

>>21313786
Either we teleport to wherever we want to go on this world, or nothing because it only links to other worlds. Neither is particularly useful at this point.
>>

>>
>>21313790
"It is."
Watch the sunrise for a few minutes, then head on through.
>>
>>21313790
"It is."

Now everyone else has gone through, and its just us and kal, name the Kalak world.
>>
>>21313790
"It is."

Say "Serpensal" again and make the portal open up right in front of Aeriel's face.
>>
>>21313817
No. Just no.
>>
"It is." You say, watching the sun slowly rise, as the sky slowly turns opaque and blue. Kaliel suddenly pulls you into a long, deep kiss.

"Return any time." Daedalus said. "You are welcome here."

You watch the sunrise for a bit, and then you step through, as the portal closes behind you and Kal.
Gehenna was tapping on his beak with a talon, in thought, staring down at the crates and canisters, examining the loot, alongside your current party and a few orc knights, next to several human squires and two ogre squires.
"Your majesty." He said, chuckling. "I see you didn't come back empty handed. What exactly are these, and where would you like me to put them?"
>>
>>21313869
"The boxes contain heat crystals and cold crystals. The heat crystals need a magic supply so we probably can't use them yet, put them into storage until we create our own Weave. The cold crystals can be used for preserving food and stuff. The capsules are training aides for the academy, those will have to go into storage for the moment as well, but Lea wants one of them for her room and I do too."
>>
>>21313869
"Some souvenirs of a nice trip. Some stones that turn heat into magic and magic into heat, a couple chambers for meditation that the new academy ought to make use of. Just put them anywhere really. Though I'm going to be installing one of the heatstones into Lil' Bubbles for better tea making capabilities."
>>
>>21313869
"Treasure!"
>>
>>21313869
"The big ones are meditation chambers. The small ones are stones that turn heat into magic, and magic into heat respectively. For now, they can be put in storage. Leave a few of the meditation chambers in the central area of the castle. We'll leave them available for now for whoever wants to use them. They help whoever uses them learn self-control, and time flows differently within. In fact, they might be useful for taming orcs.
>>
>>21313930
Lil' Bubbles doesn't need a heat stone, he breathes fire.
>>
>>21313951
It might be able to increase his output. And I'm betting that the efficiency of the heat stones surpasses the heating efficiency of the fire breath.
>>
>>21313967
But they're nowhere near as awesome.
>>
"Some souvenirs of a nice trip." You say. "Some stones that turn heat into magic and magic into heat, and a couple chambers for meditation that the new academy ought to make use of. The cold crystals can be used for preserving food and stuff, and the heat crystals need a magic supply, so we probably can't use them yet. Put those into storage. The capsules will have to go into storage as well, though Lea wants one for her room and I do too."
"As you request." He responded. He looked to his ring for a fraction of a second, and skeletons popped out of the nearby keep, taking the chambers and boxes in hand, carrying them into the keep. "When you move the chambers to the academy, it'll likely be most useful if we take the Jormungandr instead of sending them over land."
>>
>>21314026
We should do that later today, but I would like to talk to Father first.
>>
>>21314026
"If Aeriel gets his waygates done in time we can use those."
>>
"We should do that later today, but I would like to talk to Father first."
"I'll get everything ready." He responded, and bowed to you. He whistled, loudly, and Kaliel started giggling.
<He called out 'to me, my assistants!' Like he's organizing a battle or something.> Kaliel translated.
"Your father organized a private dinner with Raziel, I believe." Gehenna said. "So he should be preparing for that in one of the spare rooms."
>>
>>21314173
<I couldn't run this place without him. Every ruler needs someone like Gehenna.>

Let's go find our father, it shouldn't be that hard.
>>
>>21314173
Oh dear, maybe this isn't the best time to tell him what we've found out about our mother.

Well let's go take a peek and see if we can help him out anyway.
>>
>>21314173
"Ahah, he's having a formal date now?"
>>
<I couldn't run this place without him. Every ruler needs someone like Gehenna.>
"Ahah, he's having a formal date now?"
Gehenna held his finger up to his beak, in a 'shh' motion.
<While he was asking me where the candles were, he said that he felt like doing this 'properly', like a gentleman.>
"... Hey, hey hey." Aeriel said, landing, wings spread, in front of Gehenna. "By order of the queen, you're supposed to have today as a day off."
"... I'm, um, spending my free time as I like." Gehenna said.
>>
>>21314257
"It's ok Gehenna, there's no way I could run all of this without you and your assistants."
>>
>>21314257
"Ah ha! Caught defying queens orders! Who is your second in command, so I can boss them around instead?"
>>
>>21314257

"Hey Aeriel, you should go visit the Arakoatoa world yourself some time. They have this transport network with permanent portals and the tower is the most amazing piece of translocation magic I've seen, it's linked to every world there is."
>>

"Tsk tsk, Gehenna. Going against the queen's direct orders."
"But I wasn't. See, a day off is when you give someone free time to do whatever they wish, no?" He asked, raising a kalak eyebrow. "I happily chose to do something that gives me pleasure."
"Hey Aeriel, you should go visit the Arakoatoa world yourself sometime. They have this transport network with permenant portals and the tower is the most amazing piece of translocation magic I've ever seen. It's linked to all the worlds they have found, and the list is evergrowing."
"That sounds rather interesting." He said, and chuckled. "But I'll need a bit of a rest first, and I really want to finish this waygate first."
>>
>>21314398
We did ask
>"I can." The voice responded. "The Lost One was first recorded twelve hundred years ago, when the Great Work called the 'World's Seal' was completed, allowing us to sense metadimensional phenomena. It appears to be an impossibly complex golem, carrying a Guardian of some sort. They exist in all times, and there is no functional method of removing them."

Give him a disbelieving look.
"And people call ME mad."

"I thought the waygate was almost finished."
>>
>>21314411
"And doing work is enjoyable? Gehenna, you're a good friend but sometimes it's hard to understand the way you think."
>>
>>21314411
"Gehenna, why are you still Gehenna? Aeriel went back to his original name, but you didn't."
>>
>>21314505
That reminds me, the Kalak party is still ongoing, isn't it?
>>
"Well, if you truly do enjoy paperwork, I won't stop you." You say. "Are there any matters of state that my attention ought to be drawn to? Any projects of high importance that we don't have enough resources allocated to that need to get done?"
"Food might start to become a problem, with the new arcturian immigrants." Gehenna said. "I've started up some rationings and the ogres believe that a few of the nervghaul are plump enough to butcher, and, next delivery from the Lumber Baron, I notified him to be bringing large amounts of dry, easily storable food, so I think I've nipped that in the bud. I talked to Cassiel about transmuting large amounts of chocolate and trading that to the elves for more food, and he was fine with it, but Vithriel might get upset about that, so you'll need to talk to Vith about it."
"... Gehenna, why are you still gehenna? Aeriel went back to his original name, but you didn't."
"Because I've been Gehenna longer than I was ever Aediel." Gehenna said, and shrugged.
>>
>>21314556
"Aediel? I can see why you chose Ghenna."

Let's find Vithriel
>>
>>21314556
"Thank you. I'll talk to Vith about it, and see what I can do.

How are the roads doing? I was thinking of just going out there and making one or two."
>>
"Thank you." You say. "I'll talk to Vith about it, and see what I can do. How are the roads going? I was thinking of just going out there and making one or two."
"The elven road is about a week from completion, which coincides with my estimates for the bridge completion." He said. "And then we'll work for the orcish road- and now that Azariel is working on the academy, we might as well connect that to the road as well. Azariel promised that he could construct a bridge from the edge of his tower's crater to the tower itself, with magic, so we won't need to worry about that." Gehenna said, as his assistants started giving him notes, and as he scribbled them back. You even see one assistant set out a table for him to write on.
>>
>>21314621
"Right, I should show Azariel the capsules. Do you know where he is right now?"
>>
>>21314621
"I think I'll deal with the Orcish road quickly so I don't forget and then talk to Vithriel and show Azzy some of the souvenirs I got.

If you ever need anything let me know."
>>
"Right." You say. "I should show Azariel the capsules. Do you know where he is right now?"
"Everywhere." Gehenna said. "But you should be able to down to Raziel's circle and say his name. He should hear you and manifest."
"Thank you." You say. "I think I'll deal with the Orcish road quickly so I don't forget, and then talk to Vithriel and show Azzy some of the souveniers I got. If you ever need anything, let me know."
"I will, your majesty." He said.
Aeriel elbowed him. "He means Ishelda, not some stuffy 'your majesty'. Sorry, 'Henna's addicted to formality."

He nodded. "If you wish, your majesty." He said.
Aeriel elbowed him again as you made your way down and out of the castle. Kaliel, Lea, and Grayson followed.
"That was beautiful." Lea said. "The night sky."
"It was." Kaliel said. "I'd love to go back there eventually."
Eventually, you found the small, slowly petering out road north. You closed your eyes, and tried to focus your power, but the spell wasn't strong enough, and the ground simply trembled, taking a bit of your power.
"Try it again." Lea said. "I'll help."
She closed her eyes, and took your hand.

She said her regular elementals come out fine. It's just the emotional ones that are dark and edgy.

You close your eyes, and focus, feeling Lea's spell weave with yours... and then they both fail, the energy falling into the void. You sigh, and try again, and again, it fails.

Your eyes meet Lea's.
"Elementals?" She asked.
"Elementals." you respond. Together, you close your eyes, and focus...

And great slabs of stone tear themselves from the ground into the form of elementals, a strange, eerie black energy holding their limbs together. One by one, they start working, pulling stones from the ground as 'part' of themselves, and setting them down in place, 'disconnecting' from them there, quickly linking the slabs together in the form of a road.
"I think those will work." She said, wiping her brow.

Tea break. Tea with Vithriel.

"We'll have to pave it a bit better, make it smoother and even, but that ought to be easy."
"Yeah, we can just leave that to Raziel." Lea said.
"... Please excuse me." Grayson said, and bowed low. "I will have to speak with Zeke for a bit."
He trotted off, back toward the castle.
You decide to start a tea break... when suddenly, something small and golden falls out of the grip of a bird. It falls through the air... and then Lil'bubbles landed, pulling himself to his feet.
"You require tea, milady?" He said.

You pick him up, and make your way to Vithriel's guest room.
You find him leaning forward in his chair, humming as he turned Neiriel's feather into a quill.
"Would you like some tea?" You ask, knocking on the open door.
"Oh, come in." He said, and you took a seat as Lil'bubbles started brewing. "What would you like?"

"Gehenna wanted me to talk to you about chocolate." You say. He raised an eyebrow. "Because it's so expensive and so easy to produce with Cassiel's spell, but obviously the lizardmen might get annoyed if we start selling it and undercut their monopoly."
He gave you an appraising, serious look for once, and then tapped his beak.
"One second, let me think." He continued tapping... and then grinned. "Well... There is one of my rivals who have really been itching to get into the chocolate market. I'm going to do this- I'm going to trade them my chocolate tree farms for their much larger, more useful land on the hobgoblin islands. Wait to start selling until my trade is complete and then you can sell your chocolate for cheaper than I have been. I gain, you gain, Kadach-cha loses out a significant amount of power, and loses her ability to serve as a roadblock for me. Everyone wins."

"Well, you'll need a knife..." He said. "First, you start cutting like this..."

When he was done, the two of you were full on tea, and you had a brand new black-green quill, enchanted to be more durable.
"There you go." He said, chuckling. He leaned back again. "I do think it's about time I went home, though. My clan is probably getting pretty antsy about now, and the other mothers are no doubt scheming to get me out of power while I'm gone."

"Indeed. They're meditation chambers. Time is sped up greatly while inside one, and they show the user the flow of magic around them. Apparently, it builds discipline and control over magic."

"Yes. I got some meditation chambers from Arakoatoan schools, I think they should be useful. Come and try one out."
>>
"Indeed." You say. "They're meditation chambers. Time is sped up greatly while inside one, and they show the user the flow of magic around them. Apparently, it builds discipline and control over magic." You say. "I think they should be useful. Come and try one out."
You make your way up to your bedroom, where you see the chamber already there, the door already ajar for you.
"Well..." Azariel said. "I'm not certain it will work with my manifested status... But I can try it, I suppose."
He climbed inside of it, and the runes on the smooth, black material suddenly burst into existence, sizzling for a moment, and then a few minutes later, he climbed out.
"Interesting." He said. "It's similar, very similar, to my side of the veil, except you're manipulating your own energy, instead of the energy of the world. Much, much easier. I can see how it'd be useful."
>>
>>21315913
So it's safe and won't drain away my soul?

They'll be useful for the tower, I hope.
>>
>>21315913
"I actually haven't tried it out yet."
Try it out.
>>
>>21315913
"Lea said it was helpful for her. I brought back several, and I can probably get more if you want. Daedalus is just going to destroy them otherwise anyway."
>>
>>21315946
Why would they build schools that drained away students' souls? They're not evil.
>>
"I haven't tried it out yet." You say. Lea said it was helpful for her. I brought back several dozen, and I can probably get more if you want."
"More would definitely be useful." He said. "At least, until I figure out how to replicate them. If you haven't tried it, you should. It's quite interesting."

You climb into the chamber, and laying back in it, as if it were a coffin, you close it. For a long moment, you can't see, hear, or feel anything...

And then, suddenly, you were standing on a rock, in the middle of an enormous, endless space, everything colored a soft purple, with red and blue clouds slowly, carefully flowing around. Far, far in the distance, you can see enormous, white paths, which seem to be channeling the red and blue energy through them... and below, you see an enormous serpent. Your heartbeat increases, and the energy starts whirling quicker and quicker around you... and you try to calm down, and the red and blue clouds still themselves.
>>

Reach out to the white paths.

Wave to the serpent.

>>21316011
So the white paths are the catalyst, the serpent is the soulfire. What are the red and blue?
Anyway, cast light spell, see what happens.
>>
>>21316011
So the serpent is the Soulfire thing, the white lines are the conduit and the red and blue clouds are magic I think.

Calm our mind, meditate on something, reach out to the magic and make it flow.
>>
>>21316054
for 'something', I propose either Tea then Kaliel.

Well there goes all our magic energy. That was a short experiment.
>>
You carefully, slowly weave the light spell... and a sphere around you shows you how the spell is weaving, streams of red and blue energy shooting around you, showing you the spell's construction. You stumble over one of the words of power, and a burst of red energy flashes away from the weave, as the red energy completely drains out of the spell. The blue, unable to fuel the spell on it's own, simply falls apart as you give up on the spell.
You calm down, and look down at the serpent, waving at it. It darted toward you, still enormous... and then when it finally got to you, you see that it was actually miniscule, and your perspective was rather confused.
As it weaves itself around your arm, you calm yourself again, and then you focus, trying to calm yourself. As you focus, you see the red and blue magic slowly meld, turning a bright purple. When your focus is broken, even for a moment, the two clouds start to seperate.
With another dose of willpower, you force them together... and then you weave out toward the white lines, and as energy enters them, you feel your hands burn with magic power. You look down to where the silver lines would normally be on your hands, and you see nothing but unmarked skin.

This is awesome.

Try sorcery. Make a thinking hat.

Try seeing if we can pull the purple back apart once we've made it. Or if it can be otherwise stored in a manner that's stable.

I suppose I should probably roll for that, huh?

You place your palms together, and focus on sorcery, bringing your will forth... and then you see the rock you're standing on... crack, green light shooting out from the cracks, gathering bits of red and blue at an amazing speed, weaving each into a spell so complex you can't understand. The spell finally complete, you go through with it, and a purple elemental- made of your own magic- salutes you, a vaguely humanoid copied form of yourself.

As the elemental looked over your shoulder, you relax your sorcery, as the green tendrils of energy hide within the stone again. You weave the light spell again, and the red and blue slowly weave again, turning slightly purple as you focused. The spell goes through, and you have a glistening sphere of light in your palms. Intuitively, you know- the more focus you have, the more purple the runes will be, and the more 'perfect' the light spell will be.

Turn the elemental into a fancy hat, see if it comes out of the chamber with us.

Also, see if we can find kaliel's ring with out serpent.

Try the light spell without any components. It should be easier now we can see what we're doing.
>>
>>21316183
Try and memorize that spell for later. It'd be interesting to try and emulate sorcery through wizardry.
>>
>>21316223
I don't think we can cast something that complex, but we could try and copy something simpler.
>>
>>21316268
We might not be able to cast it, but studying it should give some insight into how it works. And if it translates to a "standard" spell (Even if it is super complex) someone else might be able to cast it.
Even if it works, I doubt it will be as efficient as a standard wizardly elemental, but it's the means rather than the ends that are interesting.
>>
You reach out to the elemental, and with a bit of will, you have it shape itself into a hat, where it sat on your head. You urge the serpent away, and bigger, and you slowly reach toward the point where it's eye would be. You pry open it's eye, and feel through The Soul, and peek out of it, where you see Kaliel at dinner, eating some lembas bread. You hear Quaz's voice as she giggles something. You let go of it, and urge the serpent away again.

Next, you focus, and carefully will the light spell into the shape you saw before, into the runes required, and you see the purple, red, and blue magics mix, slowly shaping into a crude replica of the light spell's glyphs. Honing your focus, and concentrating powerfully, it shapes itself... and without moving a muscle, or saying a word, you finally cast Light without any components. A second sphere of light appears in your palms.

Do we have Rikar in here with us? Draw it out and see what it looks like.

Shape the light spells into the runes for the hangover cure spell.

>weaving into a spell so complex you can't understand
We won't be able to follow it. Always start with the basics, like comparing a sorcerous light spell to a wizardly light spell or something boring like that.
>>
>>21316331
Reach around, and see what our inventory is doing. If we can't see it (since it'd be behind us, right?) use the elemental hat's eyes.

When we looked outside, time didn't seem slowed down at all? Interesting.
Try a shapeshift, see if we can get any insight into our glowy eye thing.

You reach for Rikar- but you don't see it. In fact, as you look down, you see you've been nude the entire time. With a bit of willpower, you focus the elemental to make complete clothing for yourself. Next, you peek out of the elemental's eyes at your inventory, and you see an enormous amount of shelves, each item in it's own shelf. You reach for a teapot, and your hand goes right through it, and the shelf.
>>

>>21316425
How strange. Is there anything in the inventory we don't remember putting there?

Try a shapeshift spell.
>>
>>21316183
Green?! Green light? I feel betrayed. I thought sorcery was purple. I think some deep deep thinking is in order, as this fundamental facet of ourselves turns out to be a lie.
>>
You examine the inventory, but there's everything you put in there. Nothing more, nothing less.

Finally, you close your eyes, and focus your sorcery into a shapeshift spell, as the green light shoots out and weaves the spell- again- into an impossibly complex one.

You go through with the spell, and you feel beams of red and blue light take ahold of your body, reshaping it in different ways, as you take the form of Kaliel's draco-tiger.
Seeing nothing else, you turn yourself back, and cast a simple light spell with your sorcery and will... and you see another, third, impossibly complex spell be woven, too complex to understand as a third sphere of light joins the first two.

and then it derped. How appropriate.

Reach out and take some power from the void, shape it into an astral fire blast.

You continually cast your sorcery over and over again, and each time, it's different. Each time, it's impossibly complex, but unique, reshaped into dozens of different spells of light, but each functionally identical. Finally, while your magic is spread, you reach down, and touch the green magic, but nothing seems to happen- you feel nothing but the strange, familiar magic you feel when Lea uses her sorcery.
You close your eyes to reach for the void... and you can't feel it in here, not at all.

You continue to spend what you feel is an hour practicing, and then something seems to crack, and once again, you're sitting in a pure black chamber, once again wearing actual clothing. Your elemental, and the dozen spheres of light are gone, and you don't feel tired at all- as if you'd never used magic. You push open the chamber, and climb out.
"You were gone for approximately five minutes." Azariel said.

"Apparently, my sorcery shapes my magic into really complex spells, then casts them. It's so unreliable because it's a different complex spell each time, even if they all have the same effect."
"That's rather interesting." He said, tapping the side of his beak. "I'm going to have to examine these things. See if it's possible to somehow view what's going on within..."
"I managed to cast wizardry without components for the first time."
"Oh, did you?" He asked.
You close your eyes, and hold out your palms, slowly, carefully focusing, as hard as possible on those runes. The spell trembles... and then bursts into existence, the sphere of light dazzling in your palm. Azariel claps a talon on your shoulder.
"Good to hear!" He said. "I'm glad."
"Y'know, I always thought my sorcery was purple... I've never seen it come out green."
"I don't think the colors are significant." Azariel said. "It's just something that the chamber uses to discern different forces in play, I believe." He said. "It could be likely that it's purple next time, or silver, or yellow."
He shrugged. "But there's no need to worry about that. You should go have dinner, while I examine this."

"No, mine was like that as well." He said. "And my... abnormal abilities from my battle on my side of the veil were a bright white, and almost impossible to control properly."
"And how about you examine one of the other ones, not the one in my room."
"Right." He said, bowing. "I still need to experiment with them, and start writing notes. I might use Zeke's help, but last I spoke with him he was painting something for Grayson... Maybe I'll talk with Sardriel instead."

"It might help Sardriel out, that sounds like a great idea." You say.
"That was what I thought." He said, and nodded again. "I hope you have a pleasant meal, Ishelda."
He burst into smoke, and dematerialized.
You shrug, pick up Lil' bubbles, and make your way down to the dining hall, to have a nice meal with Kaliel and your friends.

Little fruit or meat- mostly bread, lembas wafers, and dairy products. But mostly striplisk muffins!
