Anyone with legs can generally execute a normal jump, which moves you forward 1 hex, and allows you to go up 1 Level of height. But usually this comes with a defense penalty for your unpreparedness after landing.

The Jump stat simply lets you ignore elevation changes of a certain magnitude during your normal movement, with no penalties to be concerned with. Thus if you were to have a Jump stat of 2, you could go from a Level 1 region to a Level 3 cliff during normal movement. Yes, this means Sleekfoot Adepts can vault over castors at Level 1.
