Alright, you're in the long thin kitchen, and the skeletons have been turned. Do you go through the door at the northwest end of the kitchens and follow the path foreward, or go back the way you came and go down one of the corridors?
>>
>>21465581
I think we've agreed to continue on. Brittle bones to snap, skulls to crush, concussions to give, all that wonderful stuff.
>>
>>21465614
This. Loed wishes to smash some skellies.
>>
>>21465614
>>21465629

what they said
>>
You're in a 20 foot wide passage heading north. It continues for 40 feet, the the west wall just out 10 feet. It then goes on for another 30 feet to a T junction, the left way being a 20 foot wide corridor going south west, and two 10 foot corridors going east (the northern one of the two turning north after 20 feet)
To your left, there's a passage just south of this one heading east, you think back to where you came in.

Just before where the west wall just out, Krago spots a secret door
>>
Archive is here
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21456930
>>
>>21465686
"Oh? Ahaha, well, do you think you can open it, my good dwarf?" Leod asks, face breaking out into a grin.
>>
>>21465686
*then the west wall juts out 10 feet
*juts out
>>
>>21465734
"Do you think there might be tricks to this though, traps? I'd not wish to die at the hands of a machine crafted by evil." Alvaro cautioned.
>>
>>21465734
"Shouldn't be too hard." He manages to find and work the latch mechanism, and the door swings open, releasing a musty smell. He describes the room as irregular, a sort of triangle with an 80 foot base running north to south and 40 feet tall, east to west. The point is directly opposite you. There are barrels and sacks stacked up to your left and ahead of you, but the room is mostly empty. He also sees seven giant rats, feeding from a sack of grain
>>
>>21465791
"Giant rats? Egad, literal vermin. Best due for some pest control." Alvaro whispers as he readies his sling.
>>
>>21465779
"Giant rats are very dangerous. They can dodge your attacks, you know. And /seven/ of them! Better to take this oil flask and immolate the lot, yes?"
>>
Rolled 3

"We have a thief with us to check for such mechanisms." Leod reassures Alvaro, before falling quiet as Krago opens the secret door. He peers inside and tenses.

Leod doesn't openly reply to Alvaro and Cleode in any other way but to hand Cleode an oil flask and torch. "Light them up when they charge." He whispers calmly, before pulling his crossbow, taking aim, and firing.
>>
>>21465839
Note that I am counting fuel consumption with the lantern. You can run out of torches and lantern oil
>>
>>21465859
(Wait, Leod doesn't have any torches. Uh. Well, he just tells Cleode to use his own lit torch then.)
>>
>>21465878
Okay.

Just lighting it now? Because I'd been assuming they'd been using your lantern for light
>>
>>21465839
"Fire is all well and nice, but is a noticeable thing. If you deem it wise though, by all means. I would warn against smoke though. That, and whatever might be in there would undoubtedly be ruined if not metal, or even then possibly."
>>
Yeah, just lighting the torch now, if Cleode agrees to it.

But yeah, I'm wary of fighting seven rats at once. Do you guys think we should just fight normally or use fire?
>>
>>21465914
I think we can handle it, but I'm fine with the use of fire. Smarter and safer, but I wouldn't expect much loot out of it though. I'd shut the door though afterwards, else the smoke would be distracting.
>>
>>21465914
The doorway in front of you is small enough that they wouldn't all be able to attack you at once. Maybe four of them at a time
>>
>>21465935
Let's fight them normally then.
>>
>>21465935
Hmm. Loed, Cleode, Alvaro, Krago, Webberan, Chuck, Haley.

...Yeah, let's just stab them to death in normal adventuring fashion. Leod's first (sucky) shot above then with his crossbow, if anyone else wants to join in with ranged weaponry on the first shot.
>>
Rolled 13, 5 = 18

Alright. The rats did not notice the missed bolt and so you get a suprise round. You need 12 or more to hit
Chuck backstabs with his shot, getting an extra +4 to hit and double damage
>>
Rolled 3

>>21465973
Chuck misses but Haley's stone strikes one of the rats
>>
Rolled 10

>>21465973
"Gotta start somewhere, yeah?" Alvaro said with a chuckle as he hurled a stone at a rat.
>>
Rolled 11

>>21465973
Leod curses as his shot goes wild, and reloads his heavy crossbow quickly enough to join the others in their volley.
>>
>>21465994
Well that was a miss. The hurling was with a sling, if it needed to be said.
>>
Rolled 5

Also, someone should roll initiative for the first round
>>
Rolled 1

Alvaro frowns at the damage the rats are inflicting. "Step back Leod, you're hurt, time for me to crush some rodents." He swaps places with Leod, bring his mace and shield to bear, swinging at the rats.

Leod grits his teeth, moving back away from the frontline as he swaps back out to his crossbow and fires. Krago just continues hacking away.

>>
>>21466319
"Urgh... Damnable vermin." Leod mutters, leaning on a wall to catch his breath, bleeding from his wounds. "Please tell me there's something in this room that made that worth it."
>>
>>21466319
Alvaro sighs as he brings out his lantern to try and peer into the room past the rat corpses. "Surly it wouldn't be trapped if so many giant rats were in here..." He mutters to himself, and unintentionally the group.
>>
I just had it brought up that I didn't ask what cleric spells are prepared. So I'm asking now. What spell do you have today?
>>
>>21466369
Given the fight, I'm guessing "Cure Light Wounds" will be popular
>>
>>21466369
Well, I'll have a cure light wounds prepared in view of recent events.
>>
Cure light wounds, for me as well.

Also, all of us are in the chat, so there is no need to cross post.
>>
So what are you going to do?
>>
>>21466407
Well, Leod and Krago would appreciate some healing. Plus I imagine they search the room. Chuck first for traps.
>>
Rolled 5 + 1

>>21466407
Cure Light Wounds on whoever is most wounded.

"Hold still, I've never done this on a real person before."
>>
Rolled 6 + 1

>>21466407
Alvaro nodded at Cleode, before then healing Krago. "May the sun cure your ills and make you whole to fight on."
>>
>>21466483
"Right then. Shall we see our spoils of combat, presuming its not trapped?"
>>
>>21466456
>>21466483
Both are restored to full health, all wounds healed
>>
Leod breathes easier as he feels his wounds knit shut, absently trying to wipe away the blood on his armor. He gives an honest smile to the clerics. "Thank you."
>>
>>21466502
The room is filled with barrels and sacks, each labelled with one or two letters
>>
>>21466519
"Hm. The letters perhaps tell what is inside?" He mused as he studied them, while also looking at what the rats had been gnawing on.
>>
>>21466543
The rats had been mostly breaking into sacks, which generally contained grains or flour. Only the sacks lavelled LC were undisturbed, these apparently containing salt. The barrels and casks are all sealed
>>
>>21466599
Leod tries rocking the barrels and casks a bit for indication of what's inside. Liquids moved different from solids after all.
>>
>>21466599
Alvaro noted the sacks of salt, wondering on their worth, but then turned his attention to the barrels. "Anyone got a good way to pry these open? I don't have a knife." He asked the group as he looked for a way to get in without having to resort to smashing it with his mace.
>>
>>21466622
Some, like GG, EJ, SD and AW seemed to contain liquids, others like MK, XR, Y, and JS contain solids.
>>
The contents of this storeroom are potentially worth a lot of money. The trick will be getting them to market.
>>
>>21466644
Leod considers the situation. "...Well, unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be much we can do with this at the moment. I suggest we press on for now, and worry about how we will get all of this back to town later, once the floor is cleansed."
>>
>>21466640
Alvaro watches Leod. "The ones that are filled with liquid are probably water, or some kind of alcohol. The solids are probably food. A store room for food, not much use right now."

>>21466666
He nods. "Let us move forward then."
>>
>>21466666
Apart from heading back to the entrance and taking another corridor, you'd choose one of the exits from the junction at the north end of this passageway. West, which becomes a wide passage headed southwest, or one of the two east passages, the more northern one turning north after twenty feet
>>
Cleode raises an eyebrow at Leod as they prepare to leave the room.

"/Cleansed/, you say? Alvaro has only been with us a short time and you are already starting to talk like a Sunny. Anyway, we should look for that wizard's workshop. There are bound to be more things more valuable than salt there."
>>
>>21466677
"Considering we passed through the kitchen to get here, almost certainly." Leod agrees with Alvaro. "There seems a great deal in this place that, while valuable, would be difficult to transport."

>>21466716
"I dislike monsters." Leod replies with a shrug. "And we don't know where the workshop is. Let's go back and take the right corridor off the main passage, clear out what's near the entrance and see what our options for deeper exploration are."
>>
>>21466716
"...A 'Sunny?'" Alvaro chuckles at the term, before looking onward. "I'd suggest checking out that indent ahead of us, probably nothing there though. After, I think heading in the closest east hallway would be good."
>>
>>21466737
The indent is part of the storeroom, keeping from being entirely a triangle
>>
So, taking one of the hallways neaby, or going back to the entrance and taking one of the eastward corridors there?
>>
>>21466732
Reconsidering, Alvaro speaks. "Yes... Probably for the best. I'm just not happy about the knowledge that we let foes slip from our grasp. Can't be helped I suppose."
>>
I'm about out of battery for my modem, so I'll stop here rather than have you guys waiting on me when the battery gives out.

Cleode can go back to the town or if Leod and Alvaro want to use him, he can follow their orders.
>>
>>21466855
It's getting decently late here. They can probably handle one more encounter before it'd be wise to just head on back to town, though they can also simply leave with what they already have.
>>
>>21466782
Okay. You head back to the entrance area. There are two corridors east: one just by the stairs which turns south after 20 feet, and one north of the dining hall which continues for about 40 feet before branching out
>>
>>21466867
So, keep going for a bit or divide loot and head back to town?
>>
>>21466873
I vote for the ones by the stairs that goes south.
>>
Let's continue for just a little longer and tackle one more fight. I say we head down the corridor that turns south, since it's less likely to branch off.
>>
>>21466892
>>21466893
After turning south, the path continues for 60 feet before it comes to an intersection with a corridor heading east. You can continue south or follow that corridor. To the west is a secret door to the entrance corridor.
>>
>>21466913
Can Krago open the secret door from this side then?

Either way, don't worry about the secret door. I say continue south.
>>
>>21466913
Keep heading south, good with me. I'll leave the secret door thing to Leod and Krago.
>>
>>21466928
Yes he can.

You continue south for 110 feet before the path turns east. After 140 feet there's a door to the north, and 10 feet after that another door north. You think you hear sounds from the second door
>>
>>21466962
There's also a pungent, revolting stench from there
>>
>>21466962
Can Chuck tell what kind of noises exactly? And can he hear anything behind the other door?
>>
>>21466962
Alvaro watched the second door closely. "Can anyone make out what the noises are?" He whispered, clutching his mace.
>>
>>21466988
All he can tell is they sound like speech, but he can't make out the language. Nothing from the other door
>>
>>21466998
Leod glances between the two doors, thinking. He glances at Alvaro, seeming to desire his take on the choice.
>>
>>21466998
Alvaro points at the second door, and pantomimes swinging his mace.
>>
>>21467018
>>21467014
So, are you going in?
>>
>>21467018
Leod nods, and looks to Haley and Chuck. "Seeing as I'll be on the front-line, would either of you find me loaning out my crossbow for this fight of any use?" He offers.
>>
>>21467039
Haley accepts your crossbow, given her skill with missile combat
>>
>>21467049
Leod nods. Teamwork was the lifeblood of adventuring parties. And on that note, he makes sure the party is ready to throw down an oil flask and torch and leg it if the fight proves too much for them as one last preparation. After that is done, he opens the door.
>>
Rolled 4

>>21467018
>>21467039
Opening the door, you find yourself at the entrance to a 20' by 40' bedroom. It is beautifully decorated with mirrors and tapestries, but you're more interested in the two bipedal lizards in the room. With a disgusting scent and a spiny crest on their head, the two troglodytes turn to you for a fight

Anyone intending to fight them in close combat must make a save vs poison, or be nauseated by their stench giving a -2 to hit

Leod leans his head back and gives a tired laugh as the party stands over the corpses of their defeated foes. "Nothing worth doing was ever easy, eh mates?" He says to the others, looking around the elegantly decorated room with a wide grin.
>>
>>21467387
Alvaro sighed as the fight was finally over. "That was something. Glad they're dead, disgusting things." He snarled in disgust as he gave one a hard kick to its head. "So then, shall we see our hard earned spoils?" His demeanor changed quickly to a happy one as he addressed the group.
>>
>>21467407
>>21467396
I think we should send Chuck in to check for traps, and Krago to do a stone cutting check.
>>
This is a beautifully decorated room. Against the south end of the west wall is an ornately carved walnut bed, beneath a canopy of green cloth with red trim. Next to it is a nightstand, and beside that is a chest of drawers. On the north wall, next to the west wall, is a full length mirror with the inscription "To the fairest of all in my eyes" in its frame. In the northwest is a waterbasin, clearly with a crude drainage system but now without running water. On the east wall is a 3' by 4' tapestry, depicting a powerful warrior rescuing a beautiful maiden from a burning village, as hordes of enemies look on. In gold letters the scene is captioned "Melissa, the most dealy won and greatest of all my treasures."
>>
>>21467417
Aye. And maybe appraise the loot if they can. Either way, Leod thinks it's time to call it a day, grab as much as they can carry, and start the trek back to town.
>>
>>21467417
Chuck finds no traps, and Krago can't discover any secret doors. Opening the drawers however you find several valuables, including a silver plated comb worth 5gp and a necklace worth 50gp.
>>
>>21467453
Alvaro nods at the go ahead and enters the room, looking at the various things. He stares at the tapestry for a while, pondering. "Who uses vile beasts to guard a room like this? Not someone I'd assort with. Anything else of worth within the room, such as possibly the mirror or tapestry?"
>>
>>21467469
"Well, they might have simply moved in once the previous occupants left." Leod says to Alvaro, a little quietly, stepping up next to him to gaze at the beautiful tapestry as well. Then he looks around, and sighs. "I doubt we'll ever know."
>>
>>21467469
The mirror and tapestry are quite valuable, though you'd have a lot of trouble getting them out intact. Removing the tapestry's wooden frame from the wall would take stoneworking tools.
>>
>>21467488
Alvaro simply "hms," to himself at that. "I suppose... I'll probably see if I can learn anything once back at town. Doesn't sit right with me." After seeing that it would be hard to bother with the mirror or tapestry now, he shrugs. "Best head on back. We all need a good rest after today."
>>
>>21467502
Leod nods his agreement with Alvaro. "Aye. That we do, and it'll be a well-earned one. Though, we do have one last task; making sure the bodies of the humans and the dwarf are given proper respect."
>>
>>21467573
"Ah yes, I saw those when entering. Odd sight, thought much the same. Were they with you when you came in? Seemed like a nasty fight happened between them."
>>
Assuming no further treasures are found, and given that I'm not mean enough to have wilderness encounters as you return from the dungeon, I think we can call that a wrap.

Alvaro, you earned 60XP total this session bringing you to 110 XP. A share of the treasure is 33gp and 8sp, which is now how much money you have.

The one thing we haven't disposed of is the Ornate Wand, and Cleode likely doesn't want to give it away to anyone

Right, figure I'll use this time to get a retainer while I can. Should I roll them up, or roll on a chart?

By the way, you want me to transcribe the char sheet onto Castle of Gygar google docs?
>>
>>21467658
It would be more convenient for me, yes. Just let other DMs know that's where they can find it
>>
>>21467658
I'm happy with either way (roll from scratch or pick type and roll d12)
>>
Rolled 6, 5, 4, 1, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, 5, 1, 5, 1, 2, 5, 2, 5, 4 = 65

>>21467701
Gotcha. I'll roll from scratch, why not.
>>
>>21467738
STR 15
INT 11
WIS 9
DEX 11
CON 8
CHA 11

Well, at least he's strong
>>
>>21467755
Fighter would do him well, me thinks. Is there a standard kit, or do I pick out everything he has?
>>
>>21467782
I'd been having retainers start with nothing but a simple mercenary's kit. Weapon, armour, shield, melee weapon if ranged fighter.
>>
>>21467821
Armour usually being chain.
>>
>>21467821
Sounds good with me. Can I bump his INT down by two to raise his STR to delicious 16?
>>
>>21467848
Alright then...

Ileen (Fighter 1)
STR 16 +2 (Unless I can't shift retainer's points around, in which case fifteen)
INT 11
WIS 9
DEX 11
CON 8 -1
CHA 11
AC 4
HP 7
Longsword (1d8+2), Shield, Chain mail

This good?
>>
>>21468013
Corrections:
His INT would be nine, forgot to subtract the two.
Morale of seven.
>>
>>21468013
Yeah. Except you forgot to lower the INT
