Having seen our fighters pass the opening bouts of the tournament for the XWF Gold Division, we have 2 weeks until their next fight.

Last thread we were discussing about the way their taint may take them, about ways to roll extra dice in melee, and giving quantum gloves (weapon?) to Python, maybe
>>
By the way, I read into what "estrus" actually mean mechanically wise. Right now Ami already has "lusty" as a flaw (which we can buy off with just 1 exp, IIRC) which means attempts to seduce her gain 3 automated successes, if its from a person she is already attracted to. She can use 1 willpower to supress this effect during a scene. Estrus would just give her Lusty again (its cumulative) so it wouldnt be the end of the world and she wouldnt go around dry humping people,
either.

Anyway, by now many of you have the aberrant books, I think, so if you can look at the list of aberrations and come up with something better/funnier, let me know. No, hair on fire seems like a really bad idea to me

Otherwise, these seem like other possibilities for aberrations

• Dunamikophobia: A nova with this aberration develops a morbid and irrational fear of breaking anything or hurting anyone he touches. This phobia is so strong that the nova must make a Willpower roll to use his Mega-Strength in any non-combat or non-destructive situation, for fear of damaging the target. The Willpower roll to resist this phobia is penalized by the nova’s Taint.

And finished, but well, as long as we are really careful and dont get anyone too high on the Taint scale, this doesnt has to happen. Ami has taint 1. She still could get a lot stronger before getting her first aberration, and Brass is at taint 0. The one really in troubles is Python that already has taint 4, so raising his quantum or buying anything at 1/2 price would raise his taint to 5 and get him another aberration. The ones listed in these pages are only for a nova built around mega strength, tho. Mega dex has its own list
>>
Things to do this week

*Ami's interview with N!
*Ned goes to the BioLab

Or... Could we halve the cost of Ned's upgrade by taking a point of Taint?
>>
>>21469476
Jesus, poor guy, he doesnt even has quantum yet and you are already giving him taint.

For Brass aberrations, btw, I was thinking in going with that fear of breaking things, then stamping his fingerprints into everything, then breaking things like pens and tableware, then imprinting his footprints as he walks, and finally free thunderclaps whenever he uses his mega strength. But its unlikely we´ll get him that high on taint. Or at least I hope so

What would Ami´s N! interview be about, tho? My idea to have her be mechanically gifted so she could do car and motors interviews has been shut down. Ideas?
>>
Is there a way for Ned to go superior in secret, such that no one knows and that his abilities and so on aren't on record?
>>
>>21469558
I imagine it is a discreet procedure, to begin with, so i dont think thats a problem unless someone hacks Yakazawa´s mainframe, but honestly, the owner is a superior that has mega intelligence and SCIENCE!(tm) related enhancements and powers so that would be really hard
>>
>>21469586
Oh, there´s also a procedure where you get inserted a node into your brain to give you quantum (and high taint, sadly) in just 4 hours, too, but only 1 out of 5 people survive it
>>
>>21469586
>implying Bomber Lord won't be able to get whatever records on Ned he wants through a combination of bribery and mind control if he feels like it
A secret is more easily kept the less people are in on it.
>>
>>21469586
Actually, I havent decided if Tenkai is a superior or a nova, so dont take my word on it yet. Im thinking a nova with links to Project Daedalus in case we want a link to adventures in SPAAAAACE!

From last thread

> We'll get a softball Interview set up for Ami with our guy from N! - Talking points will be the trip to Africa, her training, what she thinks of Brass and Python's successes, and her debut (which she now knows is expected to take place first week after the title fights)

It's partly another form of training, partly to keep her profile high.

Regarding her debut, I thought a fight with Equitas would be good. Has the student surpassed the teacher?

But people doesnt knows that Equitas is teaching Ami. And besides, she´s just teaching her dance and giving her tips in how to act in front of the cameras.

By the way, just so you guys know, the Omega Arena is not a regular ring. Its more like a building complex designed so the novas can throw eachother through the floor and walls, rip apart concrete and pillars to use as weapons, etc

This would be the fight between Superbeast and Duke "Core" Baron in 2005 for the XWF Omega/Heavyweight title belt

Also, english is not my 1st language, give me a minute to find out what softball is
>>
>>21469681
Alright... so basically baseball with a bigger ball... I dont see what Ami would have to say about that. Could one of you write the interview, writefag style? Either view, please pick
Rapport: The ability to sense the right thing to say, and what the other person is feeling. Ami has Wits 5 and mega Wits 5, so we could either roll 5d10(normal dice)+5d10(mega dice) if she used rapport, or just use all her mega wits to be a charming and well, witty, person that says all the right things by just using all her mega dice as automated successes. So we can roll 10d10 for between zero (if incredibly unlucky) and 20 (if incredibly lucky) successes, or just go with 5 successes in the bag for the interview.
>>
>>21469724
I would also allow diplomacy (just 5 normal dice), or seduction (i just get the impression it would work) for 10 normal dice.
>>
Rolled 1, 7, 6, 2, 8 = 24

>>21469724

Rolling normal dice, Mega Dice Autosuccess.

Writefaggotry to follow

Then we have enough pool XP to become Superior?
>>
>>21469767
Let me see... yep, with this we are exactly at 40 communal exp so we can go through with Ned´s procedure
>>
For Brass: I really think Shapeshift is the way to go, because it only costs 3 more XP than holo and allows us to roll 10 dice with every success after the first going directly to improving any physical mega attribute we want, with no limit on how high we boost it. (also, with the reactive extra a quantum firewall is possible
For Python I think we should get the psykic shield power with the extra allowing us to effect any extra person through touch
>>
>>21469955
Those are very wise ideas, but please remember we are trying to give each nova a "theme". For example Brass is a physical juggernaut with immense defenses, which we will continue to boost still. "Superpowers" like cold breath or heat vision don´t really fit with that.

Python is both speed and powers, specially speed-related powers, like his accel (which gives him extra actions per turn) or his decel, which lowers the enemy initiative, and if it lowers it enough, makes him act only once every two turns.

Ami is fire, tho I may have sinned of cliché-vinitis there, since reheads in flames aren´t exactly new, but I really like to think a redhead brawler in flames is different from Fire (DC comics), Firelord (Marvel) or Nova (Marvel) who were always ONLY firespewers with no brawl beyond that.

We should try to build them according to their "themes" to keep them from ending up as just three identycal, super-optimized clones of each other.

In short, Brass should get physical powers, and here your idea of shapeshift is pretty good since it could be fluffed as greater control on his body. Im not sure in how you want to use a quantum firewall, tho. Maybe I need to re-read the power.

Python... uhmm... I dont really see how that would work... maybe by making his mind "go faster" so normal speed thought processes have trouble affecting his mind? will think about it
>>
>>21469767

OK, this is basically a Chat Show interview. Think Daily Show, The Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel, etc

"Welcome back to Quantum Entertainment Tonight, only on N! As promised before the break, tonight we're sitting down with a woman tipped to be the next breakout star of the XWF, Ami 'Red Jane' Morgan!"

*Crowd applause*

Ms Morgan, great to have you on the show"
"Thank you. And please, call me Ami"
"Will do. So, at this point, you're kind of an unknown personally, even if the entire XWF fanbase is demanding you get in the ring. Tell us a bit about how you came to be a fighter"
"Well, I was a big fan of the XWF growing up; I always knew I wanted to be a fighter. My sister Mai always had a gift for bringing the best out of people, so we used to train together. Then she opened her training ranch, and I started working out there. I joined the XWF as soon as I could after that"
"And you started as a valet?"
"Yes, unfortunately. But it was my only route in at the time"
"And now you're looking to make a breakout in your own right. Quite a move upward. What inspired you to raise your game?"
Ami paused, before admitting "Mr Wolfside did".
"Of course... You were quite the fan back in the day, weren't you? And still are, by the looks of things..."

*VT is shown from the Victory Party of Ami trying to persuade Phalanx/Paladin to part with his signed Brass Reaper poster.*

*Audience laughs, Ami gives the host a friendly I-can't-believe-you-did-that look*
>>
>>21470083

>continued

"In all seriousness, the way Mr Wolfside has come back from his slump is inspiring. Only months ago he was nowhere, now he's going full tilt for the Gold Division belt!"
"I hear you've actually been training with him. Don't they say you should never meet your heroes?"
"Oh, you don't have to worry about that. Both Mr Wolfside and Mr Rodruigez are perfect gentlemen. We all train at the Morgan ranch"
"And they certainly seem to approve of your progress. You went with them on the trip to Utopia, they clearly consider you a member of their Old School faction"
"It fits my philosophy. All too often, gimmicks and tricks can cover up deficits in skill."
"Coming back to the trip, now, that was your first televised match, wasn't it?"
"Yes, it was"
"Let's take a look at a few highlights"

*VT package - Ami-centric highlights of the Utopia fight.*

*Audience applause*

"So it certainly looks like you had fun. How was it?"
"Amazing! The African fans were so wonderful, they really drove us all on. To be out there, performing, in front of all those people, with thousands more watching at home... It's such a thrill! And for a good cause, too!"
"Of course, the match was for charity, wasn't it? How much did it make?"
"The UN people are still counting the residuals, but it looks like we raised nearly $3 million for charity"

*Rapturous audience applause and cheers*
>>
>>21470023
I thought Ami's theme was "broken as hell?"

Maybe you could refluff quantum weapons to give Brass glowing arms that he uses to smash people's faces in.

Also give him irresistable force to make it easier to force opponents into kd/prone, it'll also be good for style to make him Reaper Charge opponents out of the ring.

We should also find a way to buff Reaper Charge so it doesn't leave Brass so damn vulerable, as it is we never use it.

Also what are the list of business-related skills ned can pick up?
>>
>>21470094

>continued

"Well, we're coming to the end of our time, but I just have one more question. Ever since your performance, the demand for your XWF debut has been at a fever pitch. Could you tell our audience, and all the folks at home, what's going on there?"
"Well, you have to remember; The XWF is the best of the best of the best. I had to make sure I was ready for it; Debut too early, you wind up on a losing streak and never recover."

*Ami pauses dramatically*

"Obviously, I don't have a berth in the Title Tournaments going on right now, but I expect to be making my debut at the first opportunity after they're done. Everyone book your diaries, <insert date of first show after we get her contract here> will be the Red Letter Day!"

*Audience applause*

"And we're out of time for now. You've been a fantastic guest, Ami. Ladies and Gentlemen, please give it up once again for Ami 'Red Jane' Morgan!"

*massive applause*

"We'll be right back after these messages"

*cut to commercial*
>>
>>21470083
That is adorable, and I think it works great. You can easily imagine her covering her face as she blushes as bright as her hair.

>>21470095
>I thought Ami's theme was "broken as hell?"
This made me laugh a bit. She´s very strong, but specialized. I liked your idea about quantum weapon, and after thinking about it for a while, I think it would be fine to give Python "Quantum Gloves" that he can use with his punches to get extra dice. I liked your idea for Brass, too. Hands up to the elbows? or shoulders?

As for the reaper charge, it is a smackdown, and does a insane amount of damage (strength +3) that IGNORES SOAK so I think that dealing 8 damage yes or yes is well worth suffering being vulnerable for 1 round

Biz (Business): Your character knows the ins and outs of business and finance, from marketing to licensing to balancing books. More commercial-oriented novas tend to have some skill in this Ability; it´s fun to figure out the royalties on livensed toys or T-shirts.
Specialties: Controller, Down Market, Merchandising, Positioning, Stocks & Bonds
>>
>>21470147
Note on smackdown, since mega strength adds +1 damage, the Reaper Charge currently does 12 damage that ignores soak, so it´s a very, very strong triumph card. Also remember that Brass doesnt rolls those 12 dice. So it´s just 12 damage no matter what (assuming he hits with it). Overall, I think that 1q and 1w + 1 turn in which you can only defend once is very well balanced for that damage potential
>>
>>21470121
I liked it a lot and am giving you the full 5exp plus 2 as a bonus for her personal exp, with just one question: The heck did softball had to do with it?
>>
>>21470182
Softball, besides being a sport, is a term for relatively easy challenges. Something to actually do, while having very little chance of fucking up.
>>
>>21470023
Shapeshift is enormously versatile. I imagine him turning into an angel, summoning some glowy sword thing (or just use his fists), and using his shape-shifted absorption enhanced strength to break the Arena with a single stroke. (mega strength 12 would be entirely possible). Or he could use the power to be even more tanky. Still the slow bruiser who hits hard to Python's fragile speedster. As to why python wants mental defenses? Maybe he was listening to Mamba's warning?
>>
>>21470182
Tenkai: "Ah, mister Salter, it is a pleasure to have you here again. Are you here to check on our progress data for your fighters, or have you finally decide to take the dive into the tank?" (to emerge as a superior)

Yakazawa Tenkai is a tall half-japanese young man in his apparent late twenties, well dressed and obviously physically fit. He welcomes you politely into his office and invites you to sit in a surprisingly comfortable couch as he asks his secretary to bring you a drink.

Captcha: Wordsworth Greatest

Yes captcha, I thought it was a great anime by itself, and wouldnt have mind at all if they left the hentai out of it and made a real series out of it
>>
>>21470182

It's not about sports.

"Playing hardball" is an expression, especially business and politics, to imply quite a rough, uncompromising, ruthless style.

Softball is the opposite of this.

In interview terms, softball questions are easy ones like "tell me about your next film, Ms Movie Star" while hardball ones would be "Mr Senator, why were those naked ten-year-olds in limp masks found in your basement?"
>>
>>21470244

"I think it's time for me to take the step up. If it's really a Nova's world these days, a man has to keep up, or get left behind. I'm sure you understand"
>>
>>21470272
oooooooh you meant just a friendly interview, I get it, thanks
***********

Tenkai´s secretary seems to have been imported from some time-forgotten place in japan or korea, dressed in what are obviously traditional clothes, tho you have a bit of a hard time tracing their exact ethnicity. She has her long, raven-black hair pulled up into a complicated but graceful style, and moves with fluid grace despite her colorful clothes, quietly pouring you and his boss a drink.

Tenkai: "Of course. And be assured, we will be more than happy to help you to safely reach your full potential, as well. Have you made the neccessary arrangements on your side? the process will take 4 days, and people need to know you haven´t been kidnapped or such. It would be quite dangerous to open the tank before the process is completed"
*****

Btw, roll 1d100. On a 3 or less, Ned actually HAS the gene sequence necessary to become a true nova and this only causes him to erupt instead of transforming him into a superior
>>
>>21470244
For Ned Merchandising and Positioning are the Key business skills to take.

Take some language skills in countries where wrestling is huge. (Japan? Mexico?)

Maybe some skill in Regulations/Law (Academeics/Buracracy)

Chraisma has Negotiation, Diplomacy, Acting, Sound Bites, and Oration all helpful skills for a manager.

Deception/Discern truth might be good too.

Maybe a few points in programming if we're going to focus heavily on video game merchandising.

Jesus fuck, not for lack of trying.

>>21470397
the languages skill in aberrant is very forgiving, actually, Each dot in languages gives you domain over a "family" of languages. For example, "all languages based off latin". Which sounds great until you realize there are some languages on earth that today still noone knows where the fuck they came from.

Anyway, two dots would cover italian, french, spanish, english, japanese, chinese, korean... etc. The "most used" eastern and western languages

Mai actually has 3-4 dots (dont remember off hand) so she could teach you, which she is pretty good at.

>>21470442
I´d like to point out that at the end of the "Aberrant" storyline, Divis Mal gets pissed off, depowers some novas that were opposing him, MAKES HIS OWN UNIVERSE and leaves to it, IIRC. Very "Dr Manhattan" of him

>>21470442
>Rolled 10

****
The tank is dark and warm. You can´t hear anything but the deafening sound of your own heart, and then a soft, almost imperceptible buzzing as the liquid (only now you realize it is not water) begins warming up. Quantum fires wash over you, igniting your every nerve. You are un-made, and then re built. Your consciousness blissfully goes out, and the entire ordeal seems to have lasted a mere few seconds.

The tank opens, with Ami and Brass there to help you out of it, together with mr Yakazawa and a team of medics.

Ami: "Ned, how do you feel?"

You actually feel great. Somehow, you just know the process worked!
>>
>>21470510
Well, now that Ned is a superior, want to help make his sheet or should I do it all by myself?

Right now his physical attributes are strength 3, dexterity 3, stamina 3
Mental Attributes are perception 2, intelligence 3, wits 3
Social Attributes are appearance 3, manipulation 3, and charisma 3.

His Quantum right now is 1. His Quantum pool is 22 (20 + [Quantum x 2])

The total skill list is too long to post here, but his most relevant skills are Biz (business) 3 with 1 specialization point in merchandising, and diplomacy 3

We get 10 nova points, as a superior, I will post the way we can use those nova points.
>>

>>21470539
This table is valid. My only houserule/errata to it is that instead of getting 6 ability points (an ability cant go higher than 5, but you can use the 6 ability points across various abilities. You dont have to use them all in the same one) you can buy 5 ability points and 2 specialties with it. Dont HAVE to, but you CAN
>>
>>21470539
My bad, his quantum is 2. It cannot go up
This means his quantum pool is 24
>>
>>21470563
God I'm so tempted to just attribute it up. Hypercompetance.
>>
>>21470510
Oh I know. Creed Disketh is basically a more insane, sociopathic, and even more megalomanical version of Divas Mal. Also distinctly less successful.
his unrequited love for his old assassin buddy is also much creepier than Mal's
>>
>>21470586
well, that´s understandable since attributes are so "cheap" with quantum. Skills, too!
Batman in the Aberrant books has been said to be a nova with quantum 2, all normal attributes at 5, and probably a few dots in mega attributes here and there. "Maximum human", you know?
>>
>>21470639
Would compliment the Krav Maga/no fighting fair bit in combat we've been going for as well. Though if we want to be super paranoid, that one ability that would render us immune to quantum/mind control or whatever it is would be advisable.
>>
>>21470658
Can we take the one point flaw addiction (water)? Just because its so funny?
Anyway, I think we should maximize all of our social attributes first.
>>
Mega Manipulation + free Persuader - 3
Six ability dots - 1 (More Business/Negotiation/etc)
Three attribute dots - 1 (social attributes)

For starts

Do we want a power? I think we do. How does Quantum Leech work? It's the old "steal the Male's MP so he can't cast" trick
>>
>>21470580
Etiquette, Preform and Biz are all worthwhile attributes to increase. Ned to could take Negoiation for Etiquette, and Acting for preform to give him a "persona" as a manager.

Rapport would also be good in negotiations as well as helping us be more empathic to our clients.

Having Mai cover Latin and Chinese derived languages would be good too.

Academics with a Law specialty would help us cover both contract and criminal law, which could be good.

5 backround dots in Backing (SWF) could significantly increase our influence as a manager...
>>
>>21470701

>Buy a power at half cost because of Taint
>Take Addiction (Water) as the Aberration
>Get slapped by GM for trying a cheap trick
>>
>>21470709
I think we should buy enough to max out our social attributes.
>>
>>21470727
Dude, addiction to water if fucking freaky.
There's stories about people who are addicted to water who have to be monitored for bathroom useage because they can wind up drinking themselves to sickness on toilet water.
>>
>>21470701
UHmm... Im gonna have to say no, because we technically already used the "bonus points" a flaw would give us to "make our baseline character".

Social Attributes are appearance 3, manipulation 3, and charisma 3. Maximizing that would need 6 points in attributes, so 2 nova points. 8 left

Biz (business) is 3 with specialization (merchandising) 1. You cant raise Biz (or any skill) beyond 5 unless you use a nova point in buying a special thing called "Ability Mastery" which "makes your 5 points ability get a 6th dot, and allows you to buy up to 4 specialties in it, instead of 3". Ability Mastery costs 1 nova point, and you can only buy it NOW. Cant buy it with exp, so cant buy it any other time but now that you are buying stuff with nova points
>>
>>21470727
Hey, the book suggests it. Taking one bashing damage for every 24 hours you go without water is apparently unusual enough to merit more points at character creation.
>>
>>21470725
Ned already has academics 3, btw, since he´s a college graduate with a masters in economics
>>
>>21470755
I say we get it, better to have it and not need it, than to never be able to have it ever.

Alo Business covers merchandising and advertising
>In marketing, positioning is the process by which marketers try to create an image or identity in the minds of their target market for its product, brand, or organization.
>>
>>21470765
Since computers covers both hacking and programming, would we get a synergy bonus to merchandising if we tried to release a video game with a goood computers rating?
>>
>>21470757
yes but those points cant be used for anything else except merits, at this point. And honestly it feels kind of silly to be addicted to water. At least make it something like apples, which may or may not be easily accesible depending on the time of the year.

Aritsu: "Sir, your southamerican apples are here"
Ned: "Jesus, thank you lord, I fucking need my fix"

Still, it feels weird to get an addiction for Ned after all the trouble we went to get Brass clean. Sure, we can buy it off with exp later, but still... which merit would you want to buy with the points from it, anyway?
>>
>>21470792
yes I would give you a bonus to it since you would know what the developer team could do to improve things, or at least have an idea of it. Btw Ned has computers 1 already. I cant imagine a college graduated in economy who doesnt knows SOMETHING about computers
>>
>>21470800
Honestly? I was mostly joking. The books suggestion of addiction (water) was really just to funny for me to resist.
>>
>>21470808
Mind reading?
>>
>>21470843
Hi! I think i hadnt seen your nick before. *insert smiley face and someone whining about smiley faces here*

Mind reading is possible. It runs on intelligence and mega intelligence as well as quantum, tho

I think just getting a very high rapport would be cheaper and about as effective since it helps to know when you are being lied to, and what people expects of you
>>
>>21470866
Been lurking since just after brass got clean.
Mostly the mind reading is so that even against others with high social stats, we have the advantage over them.
>>
>>21470872
Since we have handcuffs that block mental manipulation, I'm guessing it's possible to block mind reading, and I'm sure many of the higher-ups have it.

Rapport is cheaper and less likely to be NOPE'd by the antagonists.
>>
>>21470872
Ok, just checked. Sadly telepathy asks for Quantum 3, so we wont ever be able to get it, unless we go into the players guide and take a few weaknesses for it to lower its level and requirements.

The easiest way is to change range from "as far as you can see" to "contact". Then we could get it, It runs on telepathy + perception, so to mind-read someone we would need a handshake and rolling telepathy plus perception to see how many successes we get. With 5 you can get even the deepest most secret thoughts
>>
>>21470918
See that sounds like an excellent way to open negotiations. We get the upper hand immediately, and then use our social prowess to get ahead/
>>
>>21470930
I got this James Bond image of Ned inviting a beautiful executive of a rival agency like De Vries, to dance
>>
>>21470961
I approve of this idea.
>>
>>21470918
Seems a little expensive to me, considering how easy it seems to be to foil it (Feign illness hold negotiations over the phone, anti-telephathy devices.)

For 2 points, we can get ability mastery and dump 5 ability points into rapport with 1 left over, with allows us to do basically the same thing.
>>
>>21470970
Honestly I support your idea, Was just saying that it is possible to take telepathy if you all (or a majority) wanted to. Plus introducing the concept that powers can be modded, as well
>>
We should definitely have one actual superpower, otherwise what do we use our Quantum for?

Something subtle and/or defensive. Absorb? Good utility protection.

Or spend attribute points to boost Intelligence, and push for the Nerf Bat ability. Maybe it's not really that efficient, but it's the ultimate equaliser, and we can make it work if we put effort in.

I'd like the ability to spend quantum to get a temporary boost to abilitiies.

I'm worried that since Mai was ble to get us a pair of cuffs that completely shut out mental manipulation, which I assume also applies to mind reading.

Since something like that exists, it's only fair to assume that it's not unique and that other people could posess similar (or superior!) technology.

Boost only works for one specific attribute, though. Can boost more, but gets expensive

I am partial to absorb (kinetic) or invulnerability (energy). Could be the other way around, too

I dont know why but I feel like sharing these three pages from the player´s guide with you guys

Well we could simply buy the boost power. It would have a dice pool of 2 (our quantum) + levels in boost, and each success would give us a dot in that attribute. If it is already at 5, or "spills over" 5, those extra successes to to mega attribute. So we could buy boost (intelligence) and get mega intelligence past 3. I say past three because the normal limit in a mega attribute is our normal attribute or our quantum +1, whichever is lower

is not that common. It was a very big favor Stella did for Mai, and it was "under the table". It´s basically military-level tech

Well, I guess we all have more or less the same ideas for using his nova points. I will get around to it this evening and have his sheet up tomorrow.

Should we end the thread for today? tomorrow we start with Ami and Brass helping us out of the tank
