If you're from /mu/, I have no idea what you're talking about. Sorry. However, I did poke my head into a trivia thread on /v/ and made several contributions. What confuses me though, is that I didn't use this name while I was there. So how the fuck did you know it was me?

(For the record, it was a thread where you had to describe a vidya character by their personality alone. I'd done Resetti, among several others.)

Well, my PC used to be named Bockscar, to go with the theme I had with my hard drives. (The 500 GB drive that serves as C: is Little Boy, the two 1 TB drives hooked up in RAID0 are Fat Man, and the 2 TB external is Tsar Bomba. I should probably rename that one to fit in line with American nukes.)

I can't name it Enola Gay because it's not alphaneumeric.
>>
>>21479465
Name it after a non-organic antagonist. Megatron, Megabyte, GLaDOS, etc.
>>
>>21479581
Well by 7AA there are 8 named ones. The average mage would be a lot like the average warrior, skilled enough. But not legendary.
Fire spell of some kind, simple illusions, maybe some healing, lots of cantrips, basic enchantment and rune work. Thats the minimum to pass the wizard college that is in that one town. So I imagine its the basics. I also think most cantrips would be day to day stuff

>>21479641
You I like you.
>>
>>21479581
going by D&D standards only about 1-3% of the average population is capable of magic and most are first level. given our, let's call it unique mental state which gives outrealmers an abnormally high mage percentage i'd say we have a total casting population of about 10%, which i would split up as 4% each autist and drunk, and 2% sensate (sensate lower since it relies on experiences rather than mental state) (also remember, this is just the outrealmer population, not including natives)
power level and spells would probably be more towards everyday use for many of them, or combat for those that adventure

Well I'm sorry you guys feel that way. We weren't ever trying to offend anyone, the reason I joined in was to have a place to write some stories about adventure, dashing chaps and daring do, and maybe some light-hearted romance. I'm no author, but I enjoy it whether people like it or not. I haven't written anything too riské nor offensive to my knowledge, and I'm sorry if some people think I did.

Criticism is always welcome whether we ask for it or not, I'm sure everyone who writes here feels the same way, and there is no stopping anyone from joining in if they wish, some of the writers have set up a lengthy wiki detailing a lot of collective events to get them up to speed.

If everyone hates it, I guess that I will take the majority rule and stop if that pleases the audience.

>>21480184

Honest criticism? I'm not sure it's been offered my friend. If you have any, please, do share it. I'd be happy to hear on what people think or how others think I could improve my writing habits.

>>21480184
You show me "Honest criticism" and I'll listen. If you had read any of the threads you would know I love criticism. I've used it all to better my works. You point out or give real honest criticize and I will listen.

Also we just got a few new writers going back to you guys know nothing. If your not all just the same samefag.
>>
>>21480222
Okay: You're not developing a setting any more, you're writing plot and story. Not necessarily a bad thing or not necessarily non-/tg/, but the setting itself is now basically static. That tells me that you're finished.
>>
>>21480184
I don't think we've ever fully rejected a new author before, they just don't appear very often.

And, personally, I adore criticism; it's merely a guide to improving my writing skills. Unfortunately, our audience, if we have one, remains silent, so we must ask for help amongst ourselves. If you have suggestions on how we may improve, though, please share, since you must be here to contribute some meaningful insights to our stories and not blindly toss insults.
>>
I have no fucking clue what those guys are on about...

Seeking audience critism? Everyone here looks for it. I've not encountered a more welcoming group of writers here on /tg/ to date.

So you know what? Fuck off.

>>
And now, to write a new story... A DIPLOMAT FROM THE FREE PORT OF PORTFREE IN THE FREE KINGDOMS O_O PIRATE CITY STATE HOOOOO! (if there's another city fitting this and I've just missed it or not gotten to it yet, please tell me nowish? >_>)
>>
>>21480272
So this is how you guys react to honest criticisms, huh. Now wonder the whole thing became a worse circlejerk than WHH
>>
>>21480302
How much of that goes on the wiki, and how much goes here?
>>
>>21480253

Ah, I see. Well that is a very valid point, I guess it is a bit easy to try and follow a single character or group around on a insular plot.

However, I do not feel that we are "finished" in that direct of a sense. We built the setting fast and frantically so we could write within it, not build it forever. Half of the fun is showcasing the setting within the plot and story. Again, I understand your feelings towards these threads if you feel they are pointless and becoming hollow, but I would have to respectfully disagree.

I do appreciate the comment though, perhaps if you, the readers, give us a second chance we may be able to improve using this advice.

>>21480319

>>
>>21480326
I don't even think that's necessary. I think it would behoove you to tell a few tales about the religions of the setting, perhaps, or its economy, so it can be a setting for stories outside the scope of the Knights themselves.
>>
>>21480351

I see, that... could be done actually. I'm not sure how long you have been watching these threads, but we have had touches on the subjects, and I think that it could be done rather simply.

We have a setting, it has some colour and some shades, but the real depth has yet to come. Like I stated previously, it is far, far too easy to get caught up in writing a story that focuses on the straight and narrow, neglecting to show off the setting around it.

You have some very good points of criticism Anon, I will certainly take them to heart in my next arc of story.

See? Compromise and criticism can be made if you don't try to offend anyone right off the bat. Cool heads will prevail.

Milestone event? There is the mongrel vampire story, which as far as I know is HUGE, and it was Dustyn, I believe, who was currently writing about saving Thai (How far along is that, anyways?).
If all else fails, we could probably arrange a few skirmishes with a haughty Mirthterran noble.
I was personally keeping relatively small scale intentionally, though.

And what's a Portfree anyways?

I...think this is the correct way to use sage.
>>
>>21480351 Not religion or economy as I hate the first and have already done some on the second. But fluffy crap it is.

My dealings with the Chironen are of little importance, but in my time spent with them I have learned much. They are a clever species as they need to be. They are one might call a fragile being. Stronger than humans though they may be they have some serious weaknesses. Most of them the other side of a two edged sword.

They have hollow bones which helps with flight and surviving a fall. But the bones do not deal as well from a weapons blow. The wings are another problem. Running from just below the fingers to just above the ankle they limit movement not to mention dress. The wings tend toward the sensitive side. As the membrane is covered in countless nerve endings.

Their greatest strength is also their greatest weakness. Hearing, more accurately echolocation. Some I have encountered have hearing so fine they can sense changes in heartbeat and in breathing. Not surprising back in the 60’s a guy did test by gluing a rod to another guys eardrum, it could pick up on the differences of an atoms bredith. Humans just have really crappy outer ears. Like I was saying this is their greatest weakness as when they are assaulted by loud noises they lose their “second sight”, louder and they can’t even stand. Louder still and they pass out.

The ones with really good hearing can act as a human lie detector. Well they can act as a doubt speaker detector would be more accurate. I will not get started on the subject of lying and lie detectors I could write a whole book on that. Well then again I only wrote 50 pages for my college paper on them. So maybe not a book.
>>
>>21480398

Well, we are in our... 35th thread. A lot has been said and done in that time, including a lot of exterior description of the setting. A lot of people have just been in the final ends of personal stories, so its been a little clogged with that style of writing at the moment, so I can see how it would seem that we are neglecting the setting.

Well, once my "arm problem" is over and done with, perhaps I will write in some things, or even start some sketches of the areas around the castle. I don't have a scanner, so a picture of a picture will have to suffice. I may not be the most artistically proficient, but I'll try my best.
>>
>>21480518
Back to hearing. As they use this echolocation to see all around them seemingly up to a mile away, bar any obstacles, they serve as great scouts and trackers. As their wings also limit movement traditional weapons really don’t work and limit them to fighting in wide open spaces; they really need better weapons and training if they are to be used in any fighting capacity. They currently train with and use a spiked boot, which is the silliest weapon I have seen since finger claw stun gun. My recommendation, Give them a fitted vest that can hold a blowgun and darts. Also keep them as a scout/sniper force and things will be fine. Also it should be noted they are best served as an air/limited ground unit. They really are not made for ground combat. My recommendation, fly to a good spot get off a shot or two and get out.

As for air combat the boots still do serve a purpose, to engage with other flying forces. Now it has been brought to my attention that its kinda hard to use a blowgun when flapping your arms. To which I only have to say, do I have to do all the thinking for people? Well here we go. The Witch Dive Strike or as I like to call it how to use a blowgun mid air.

Step one: flip onto your back and grab your gun.

Step two: with both thumb-claws, bring gun to mouth, flaring wings to slow descent.

Step three: aim, fire, return to flight position. Repeat after gaining altitude.

If you need to dodge while doing this bring wings to 12 o’clock and increase descent speed or bring wings to 3 and 9 to slow up more. Or really any wing combination, one popular one during testing turned out to be 11 and 5. The upside of this technique is it makes you able to fire while moving and fire while dodging.
>>
>>21480532
e dodging.

Moving on to culture, most Chironen are a nomadic species. Primarily a hunter gather one also. They are a friendly enough race after they get over their fears of people. Some are more friendly than others of course. They put very, very, very, little value on sight most of the time, being a nocturnal species that has a little less than human grade eyesight (meaning they cannot see well at night at all). As such, they over compensate using hearing, touch, taste, and smell. This lends to their lack a sense of personal space. and are very much about the feel of things. So if a Chironen starts to feel your face do not freak out. In most Chironen societies one is considered an adult when one grows this sort of tuft of furry hair on their chest just a bit below the neck, usually around the hollow of the throat.

Though mostly nomadic there is one know city of Chironen called, well, there is no direct translation. The closest we can get is a set of musical notes (and even sheet music isn’t an exact method of translation, though Chiroren Immigrants from what we’ve taken to calling ‘CityGotham” seem to favor writing using sheet music than using the latin alphabet unlike their surface cousins).
>>
>>21480544

Chironen tend to congregate in a section of the Catacombs consisting of large, open limestone caverns (often with streams running through them). The district has taken up the name “The Bat Cave” and serves as an early warning system for anything coming from the caverns and tunnels not under /TG/ control, cavernous combat seemingly being one of the few things they excel at, being capable of a greater level of short range maneuverability (if no where near the speed, long range endurance, or aerial skill) when compared to Harpies (who make up the bulk of /TG/’s ‘air force’) The catacombs are a curious place to most outsiders. Add in the rumors and legends of other things down there and it looks a lot scarier. However the Chironen have heard nothing unusual so I doubt there is anything to be worried about. Unless the thing lacks a body.

Rumors of the Chrionen being a bunch of pagan cultists can be scary, but worry not. As their rituals are rather tame. There is no human sacrifices or sacrifices of any kind. Most Moon cultist Chrionen only bother with the new moon and full moon rituals. The first of which is for is for healing and the second of which is for fertility. Also Chrionen do not drink blood. If you see a Chironen biting someone that is most likely because that person tried to use their hand to cover the Chrionen’s mouth. Namely one couple.

To the High Admiral of the Free Port of Portfree, greatest port in the Free Kingdoms.
Now Admiral James, I would address you directly o course, but I have no idea whether you still are admiral after all. Assumin you still are, you will need to know this. It is the 895th year since the rise of the Iron God's chuch in these lands, but these Teegeens refer to it as 9AA, After Arrival apparenly. Now, I don't be a bettin man, you know that Admiral, but I believe that there is truth to the tales of them being outsiders. I won't go into it in more details, you hav the reports of the boys we sent heer before, even if they did all turn up dead (sever cases of falling onto their own daggers 20 times or not, damn that Fearghaile).

I am sending this to give you warning, and great news, these Teegeens, they be a great resource. They've begun working on a canal linking their rivers and local lake to the great northern river, the Faerun. Yes, I know we don't sail down it, too close to the Frozen March, ships going missing, the Kanin patrols that don't like us too much.
>>
>>21480800
Ignore it all. We need to trade with these folk. Their odd ways, their antagonism towards the blasted inland fools. And most of all, their technology. I am sure it is why our boys before now died, and the only reason I'm still alive is that I'm on the admiral's council, they can't handle the impact to their trade if we begin raiding any ship carrying their goods, sacking the ports of Kanim and other allies of theirs, so they won't kill me, at least not yet. I guess our erratic reputation and vengeful attitude lets'em know they can't pull those nasty tricks that have befallen some of the Inland barons... not to mention at least once one of their Blade fellows hired Captain Rallith's boys to sink some Serridian noble's ship.

But none of this matters, what matters was what I found out about in the catacombs, as they call them, of this place. See. The city is festooned, honeycombed even, with tunnels under it, they use some, expanded others. Entire Chironen district down there even, quite the sight the expanded cavern mouth at night. Anyway, no, what's important is that any city this size, and with this much trade passing through, given what they produce. They have an enormous number of lay mages, never seen a city this rife with magic. They light the streets with it at night! The surplus of magic goods alone would be enough to bring us in on this place, for trade of course.
>>
>>21480806
No, whats important is a place called Blood Gutter. It's a nice cozy spot deep in the catacombs, outa sight of their Knights. See, as I was sayin', any city this size and with this much trade eventually produces criminals. The Teegeen's are better at keepin a lid on it than most, but its there, and the bleedin are of it, in some ways, is the area around Blood Gutter.

Blood Gutter is what it sounds like, a horrible cess pit of rot, blood, water, and shit. A dueling ground, a bettin arena. So deep in the catacombs even their knights havnt found it yet. I went there just once, and well, what I saw amazed me. They have these things, weve herd rumor of them of course, but these guns. I saw them demonstrated. Got to handle it myself, for a fee. Its like a mages wand, but I'll swear to you there was no magic in this, that cold, metalic stench in your mind when magic goes off? Wasn't there. No, there was just a bang like a mage's bolt and the other man fell dead, poor fool was a mage of some kind. Before he could get his spell off, the fire and thunder of the Gun had him down.

Admiral, we need these. As I said before, I aint no gamblin man, but I would bet everything on gettin one of these guns. If it aint magic, its somethin we can copy. I couldn't palm the piece there, the swine who had it was flanked by two others with much larger guns than the one he gave me. I handed it back, I saw him reload it with some kind of paper and metal set up, called it a cartridge I think, anyway, put it into a little hatch at the back of the Gun. Now, these bigger ones... they were something else. The one I used put a neat little hole through the heart of the other guy, but when some gutter snipe of an orc tried to make off with the Gun, one of the two guards laid open his entire back as he ran away, the skin and muscle turned to pulp from the blast.

Now, if we try for this, we got to be careful. These Teegeens are right protective, and I never did see the face of the man giving the guns out for "test runs" as he called it. But, I think he's plannin' on sellin' eventually. I asked him iffin he was a Knight, he laughed, and just shook his head. He's an outrealmer I'll bet hard gold on it, but he aint no Knight. And if we can do business with him...

Admiral, get even one of those Guns to that mad Alchemist fellow you have on a leesh? And we'll own the coasts from the dark continents in the south, all the way to the Kanim Isles and beyond. That's my official recomendation. I'm sendin' this letter with no less than 12 of my best boys, only 6 of which the Teegeens have any idea about officially, and at least 2 of the others have kept their cover, not been snoopin' about. I won't talk about the little surprise you've managed to sneak in o'course. Good show Admiral. Anyway, at least one oh these should get back to ya.

If it's found out, I probably won't survive, one way or another. Just let my death slide. But make sure that bilgerat Carcer, my quartermaster, gets my place on the Admiral's board. He's got a good head on his shoulders, and he'll lead Marcone's Mavrics well. And if we got to take this place. Kill their Sir Dustyn first... and that Sir Giovanni if you can manage it, but Sir Dustyn has to go. Outa ever damn outlander here, that cove is too dangerous, and willing to do too much to protect them. I think he'd see the world itself burn before harm came to their precious TG.

The way that one is trying to comfort the mermaid who has been cut in half in her dying moments knowing there is nothing she can do to help her and the way said mermaid is clutching her comforter as tight as she possibly can and trying to make it all go away makes me all sorts of sad. Z: …And then they said, “Are you a Knight”!
S: Hahaha! Hilarious! They thought to hide from us? Underground?
Z: I know, right? Practically next door! Don’t they know it’s not structurally sound?
S: I could take down the roof by punching the walls hard enough!
Z: But enough about two-bit fences, distribution on my side’s monitored, yours?
S: Not a peep, these guys are probably cracked cases. Introduce the rust bug into the casts, and any “unofficial” smithies will soon find themselves in a bind.
Z: I’ll get right on it. Speaking of bugs, have you seen the new [Expunged]?
S: It’s uncanny what those two can do. They’ve really outdone themselves this time. Project Board Flip is a go!
Z: Thinking of using it on the departing party, are we? Freeport Portfree, what were they thinking? Want to head over ourselves?
S: Nah, point K at them and say “Journal” and every pirate in port will find a dagger in their back, courtesy of their “top field agent”.
Z: Actually, about that, are we telling K? With the whole “intercepted messages” and all…

I actually got thinking, "why stop at two?" when it comes to spies.

I'm going to need to introduce these guys sooner or later, lest cries of "Asspull" be heard among the board further down the line.

Now that I think about it, maybe spy games are harder to write than politics...

Ah, according to an email Gearheart and I had, there are power mad Knights, just not gun runners.

These two? S and Z are no knights either, neither are B & K, so there's some info for any keeping score. They were merely discussing the Blood Gutter situation as third parties, so you can have your evil Knight cake, and eat it too!

Now that I read over it again, I made a snag. If it's 9AA in your piece, I may have to rewrite some of the work I've been doing, cause B and K were officially declared "persona non vita" in 7AA...

Part 5
From the Journal of Hetros Jistin

I was not myself for the next few days. Shell shocked is probably the word. Many of us were, those of us that were not completely elated that the terror was over. I took part in the celebrations, noting how the Elven females warmed up to our menfolk readily when it became apparent we were treating them well, not as property. I talked and joked with Mikela, who was almost always there. She helped pull me out of that pit I dug myself into those days after the counterattack. She's always been stronger than me, come to think of it, all of my waifus are stronger than me, or at least doubt themselves less.

The days quickly became warmer, and during those days, Mikela took to, at least in my rooms, disrobing, complaining of the heat... I'm still a little confused how I could be so oblivious however considering she remained as cuddly and deliberately ignorant of personal space around me as she ever did. Much to my continual embarrassment. We went through about two weeks like this, her teasing me constantly, and me oblivious to what she was hinting at until early one morning when I woke up with her straddling me much as she had when we first met. We'd not slept together since that night before the counter attack, and given the heat wave the sudden southernlies were bringing north, I'd taken to sleeping in the nude with only light sheets. Finding that my closest friend in the settlement was ontop of me was more than a little shocking to say the least, if not unwelcome.
>>
>>21487631
Moderate smuttiness. apologies to the easily offended.
I learned three things that night. First, she was a virgin, but we fixed that in short order. Secondly, Mikela is a screamer, and you don't know the meaning of the word until you've met a Chironen screamer. I'm just glad my glasses were safely stowed in their insulated case inside of a chest... my spare set I had kept out shattered after the abuse Mikela's voice put it through. Thirdly, I learned just how badly she wanted to make a family with me. Towards the end, I started to pull away, but Mikela's legs twisted around my body, pulling us together hard. I was about to protest before she kissed me hard, biting down on my lower lips, her wings wrapping around us as I emptied myself into her body.
>>
>>21487653

When we finally peeled away from one another, I still remember her very satisfied look as she rubbed her nose against mine. I was stammering, unable to believe what had just happened. Don't get me wrong, this was... unexpected, but very, very welcome. I asked Mikela if she was sure, and she made it clear to me, in no uncertain terms, that she wasn't letting me go off like I had again, not alone, and certainly not until I had seen our child. I won't bore you with further details of what happened, but suffice to say, for the next few days me and her rarely left the room except for necessities, Mikela joked about it being "just to be sure." When we had finally exhausted ourselves on one another, we informed her father (not that he hadn't guess by now), who seemed more than happy to hear that his daughter would be marrying the human who had introduced his colony to this friendly place where they might remain, and further, that he'd probably be a grandfather before this time next year. We were officially wed to one another around the same time many other of my fellow Outrealmers and their Waifu, there wasn't much in the way of surprise, except in that I hadn't been one of the early adopters of marrying into the local population like several others had been.

End Part 5 [Next time: Life goes on, the Dwarf Delegation, Stuff]
(because I couldn't find a way to end part 5 and seague propperly, seemed like a good place to end it)

Been very little comments on things from the new wiki races page.

So adding some details from the goblins and kobolds.

Goblins are a race of slightly reptilian, short, humanoids with a technical bent. Contrary to popular belief, Goblins are not related to Orkind in any way, shape, or form. Physiologically, they are smooth skinned, but have scale like patterns and calluses on places where the bones are shallow against the skin. They have short stubby tails protruding from their rears. Their eyes are usually monochrome with a single snake like slit pupil, though there are exceptions. All Goblins retains a love of gadgetry (though not on the scale of the gnomes) but more than that, a love of alchemy, chemistry, and herbology. Their skin tons have a very, very, very, wide range, but by far the most common range is grey to green (though reports of red, blue, human skin tones, and every other color imaginable have been made, though how much of this is alchemical trickery and how much is natural is unclear).

Goblins, unlike every other race on the planet, seem to have come from else where, another world entirely, only tangentially connected to this one. Goblins are, by far, the most common opponent faced by adventurers going into the dungeons that spontaneously appear. Given that there is no species quite like Goblins anywhere else in the world, and almost no records of them being created, migrating here, or anything else amongst the dwarves, felim, or humans (not even myths or legends), it can only be assumed that those of Goblins populating the new world are those who left the dungeons that brought them here before the dungeons were closed.

Goblins are divided into three races, Gobbos, Kobolds, and Gremlins.
>>
>>21488438
Gobbos
Unlike their wilder, dungeon dwelling cousins, or the tribes of their kind far to the south. Gobbos are incredibly civilized, organizing themselves into merchant bands known as Caravans that travel between settlements. They peddle trinkets, potions, and small gadgetry at each location.

Gobbos rarely, if ever, take off the dark black robes and hoods they wear constantly, nor the white masks carved with different faces, each face representing a different emotion or action or idea. Gobbos only remove this clothing in the presence of someone they truly trust, and is usually something reserved between mates. It is unclear how Gobbos are capable of drinking and eating through their masks, though they seem to do so effortlessly.

Gobbos, far more than their cousins, the Kobolds, are masters of alchemy and medicine, and they adore modifying their bodies, though it is rare when you see a gobbo that is radically different from the standard Goblin template. Gobbos tend to be strangely proportioned for their size, which is at about waist height to a human. Gobbo males are often thickly muscled, even if they are of a scholarly bent, and very, very, fit. Gobbo females are impossibly curvy, to the point where some even have trouble retaining their balance. Gobbos do not state whether this is NATURAL for them, or the result of alchemical manipulation of their forms, though they seem to accord respect in equality to how heavily modified a fellow Gobbo's body is, and to these Gobbos who are almost comically proportioned, a great deal of respect is given.
>>
>>21488449
Gobbos cont.

Gobbos are most commonly sighted type of Goblins in the northern lands, and the only nonhuman even barely tolerated by humanity. This is for a number of reasons. Goblins are master apothecaries and alchemists, and 3 generations back, the heir to the kingdom was deathly ill. No one amount of prayer, healing, or medicine was able to cure him. In desperation, the King began calling to those outside humanity for help (besides the hated elves). Dwarven runes did nothing, nor Halfling cookery, Felim shamanism, or Gnomish invention. Finally, a goblin caravan arrived in the capital, and with it was the oldest and wisest (or so the goblin claimed) of their kind. Over the next few weeks, he had adventurers gather the rarest of ingredients, and after a month, concocted a substance that cured the heir, who later became king. So ecstatic at the revival of his son, the King at the time offered the goblins anything they wanted. The price was not as high as he might have thought, not half his kingdom, not riches untold, no. They simply asked that each of their caravans be given a contract, a writ of trade and pass, to move unmolested through human lands, and peddle their trade in human settlements.

Goblins are still discriminated against, in their gypsy like caravans, but by law, they are protected and subject to the king's laws, and there is many a plague stricken town that would not have survived if not for a timely passing of a gobbo caravan. This, combined with the fact Gobbos tend to camp outside of a settlement and keep to themselves, has lead to a grudging tolerance of their presence in most towns.
>>
>>21488455
Kobolds
Kobolds, by and large, are what adventurers face in most dungeons or around them. Kobolds show none of the modesty nor alchemical manipulation that Gobbos display, and share not even the basic tolerance displayed by humans towards Gobbos, not by a long shot. Kobolds are tinkers beyond compare, and passable alchemists. Many magical items found in dungeons, at least the minor ones, are of Kobold make, and you will never find a race more adept at placing and hiding traps of all sorts. Kobolds are masters of ambushes, and if evidence in deep dungeons is to be believed, were once the dominant species of some very powerful, and magical nation. It is possible that the mysterious magical items found in the depths of most dungeons were made by the Kobolds of old.

Kobolds follow the standard Goblin template in appearance, and universally, whether they are members of nomadic tribes (particularly common to the Desert of 1000 Sands, the Knoll Wastes and Orc lands) despise their Gobbo cousins. Calling them race-traitors and claming that they are dishonoring the ancient ways.

Kobolds seem to worship magic, in all it's forms, and at the same time, abhor "technology" as they put it. The devices of the gnomes and even dwarves, to them, are wretched things, and the few cases where a Kobold has been exposed to something as advanced as say, a cellphone or laptop, and were told how it worked, has resulted in the Kobold going into a panic. There is little explanation for this.
>>
>>21488464
Gremlins
Out of all the Goblins, the Gremlins are the most alien and insane. While Gobbos disdain advanced technology (usually anything that is steam driven or more advanced), and Kobolds despise it, the Gremlin is defined by his paradoxical fascination of what he hates. Gremlins are found most commonly in the Dwarven Reaches and in Gnomish lands. They form strange, half tribes of half insane members, modifying themselves with a combination of magical tinkering and alchemy that is far more unstable than that practiced by either the Kobolds or the Gobbos. They attack, raid, and whenever they can, subvert any form of technology they can find. Most often they break it, but occasionally they "hack" it into something it was never supposed to do, usually involved in killing any "tech lovers" the Gremlins can get at, or damaging anything else technological around them.
>>
>>21488467
My goal was to write up a race (or set of races) that might explain why adventuring in these spontaneously appearing dungeons is always so dangerous, and further, where so many of their magical treasures come from.

What you get, in the end, is a species that is very, very, very, adept as magical tinkering, and even basic mechanics, but anything beyond the most basic of mechanisms and simple machines used to produce traps is despised by them (well, maybe not the Gobbos, who are more SCIENCE and less MAGIC, but kobolds certainly, and gremlins are just nutso)

Thoughts? Alterations? Ideas?

Also do we have trolls yet? Might throw them in as a variety of freakishly magically mutated goblin.

The mind of a heretic is a terrible thing to look in to but it is necessary. After all, he was too a child of Myrther. He had only been led along the wrong path and it was Lamarr’s job to bring him back in to the light. Or so the inquisition would have the populace believe. To be honest, the increasing similarity his job entailed with that of a torturer was rather unpleasant. And what if torture didn’t work? What then? Killing the heretic would only be a loss and this one was too valuable to lose.

Lamarr sat at his desk as he usually did but this time he was going over the memories of the heretic that had proven so resistant. Since the soft methods weren’t working he’d have to try harder. The heretic didn’t need a ring finger if he wasn’t to wed to another human after all. That one got him some interesting things. It was a rare glimpse at the world that the Outrealmers came from.

He could see the disjointed memories of the heretic as a child and his adolescence. There were pictures of almost poor family who owned a restaurant of sorts. The boy had tried gladiatorial fighting to support the family but was not very successful. The reason that the was given was in a language he could not understand but the heretic had been kind enough to translate. “You have the hunger [for victory] but not the eye for your own [good].”
>>
>>21489714
Was this perhaps the source of it all? It didn’t seem likely to Lamarr. It was more the happenings of the background that intrigued him. There were items and objects unknown to him in the world which the heretic came from. But there was more.

The boy went to school of course. His strong suit it turned out was languages, or specifically, Common, or the Outrealmer version of it. It also was the beginning of the boy’s fascination with foreign literature and picture books. It was not until in his early teens did the boy master the usage of a magical portal that seemed to lead to an endless supply of such things. Lamarr of course thought it a bit strange that the heretics of Teegee named themselves after something from that magical plane. It explained a lot about their behaviour though. They were educated by goddamn wizards! Of course they would have had no sense of right or wrong.

These findings were important to the Inquisition. These heretics were misguided all along and their complete destruction was not necessary. However just the memories of a tortured heretic was not enough proof. They have to find more such similar experiences to be able to lend evidence to this theory. Lamarr was certain that there would be if he could get his hands on more of these Outrealmers.
>>
>>21489727
The heretic’s next set of memories were from a time in a form of military or mercenary corp. They were drilled and trained for two months. They weren’t allowed to handle weapons so they were given wooden analogues. The heretic had clarified that his kingdom had only just recovered from a coup so the real soldiers had priority over the recruits. Lamarr had suspected the heretic was holding out on him. There must have been a memory related to their weapons technology in there somewhere but without knowing what it was he couldn’t specifically look for it without the chance that he could destroy the memory itself.

The final memory he saw was the heretic in university, the very same kind that the heretic had created for Teegee. His was that of the “Political and Moral Sciences.” A strange name to be sure but all Lamarr gathered from the experience was that the heretic was good at different Outrealm languages. Perhaps this was how the heretic had managed to hide information from him. Suddenly the thought that other words he had managed to extract from the heretic held deeper meanings occurred to him. Was the real meaning of such things as the “Oden”, “Tjarhovs”, “Bromma” and “Karla” plans?
>>
>>21489739
Which was why the whole thing was maddening. All these mysterious words and objects which he could not understand. It was only leading Lamarr to frustration.

“Some tea Inquisitor?” his assistant Sister Miriam interrupted.
“Thank you Sister,” Lamarr replied, gratefully receiving the warm drink, “What do you think of our guest so far?”
“I wish he wouldn’t self-mutilate but I guess that’s why you’ve kept him under permanent watch isn’t it Inquisitor?”

Ah yes, he hadn’t told her how the heretic ended up like that but she came up with her own explanation for it anyway. She of course simply thought of the heretic as a man driven to insanity by the heretics of Teegee. That and the heretic never spoke to her either so it worked out pretty well so far.

“It’s a shame that the memory recovery process is so painful,” Lamarr offered as he sipped the tea.
“He wouldn’t try to block out the pain it caused to his mind with the pain he inflicted on himself if it were so,” she agreed.
“Quite rightly so Sister, but I’ve made progress with him so it’s just only a little longer.”

It was at that moment that Sister Miriam collapsed.

Alright, so I've sorta run into a bit of a snag. I think I'm guna be needing Lem's help in the end.

See the original plan called for pulling an Eraser and leaving a body in Thai's place, having covered the strike team as nothing more than marauding cultists or something who broke into the dungeon, stole some stuff, ransacked the place and set it on fire or something along those lines. Then it suddenly dawned on me that if we went though with that plan, Thai would need to change his name and everything about his life, something I don't think he'd be willing to do, and even then spies would probably still pick up on it.

So my second idea was to just "kidnap" him and then have him turn up a few weeks later in Tegee have "miraculously escaped from his captors", but that's kinda thin. Then I decided to tweak that and have some legitimate knights (like Alaric and Artorias and some NRFs) "ambush" a group of "cultists" as they were making their escape, just happening to find the poor Thai with them.

Here is where it gets sticky. First and foremost, with Thai back in our hands, he's obviously going to tell us who captured him. That is going to lead to some problems. As for the "cultists", they could easily be "overpowered and captured" by the knights, but then an argument is going to have to be made for their custody to be kept by the knights, unless they are handed over to the Mithrans only to escape as soon as the knights have rounded a corner.
>>
>>21491606
Have the Cultist be Illusions and have Thai stop doing stupid things like going into the lions den.
>>
>>21491606
Alternatively, we "capture" the "cultists" and they "escape" from our custody but are prevented from recapturing Thai because we had a guard shift assigned to keeping him safe.

Also, the rest of our caravan's guard finally crawls out of the taverns after the cultists get away. Damn bunch of bums are so getting their pay docked when we get back. Cultists wouldn't have gotten away if we'd had the extra hands.

HOPE THAT EXTENDED TAVERN CRAWL WAS WORTH IT!
>>

Hmm, that's what I get for posting before I read the thread.

I inquire Mr. Thai, is this setup for my own benefit or is there something specific you wanted to do with it?

Just some ideas on the larger schisms inside of the church of the iron handed god.

The Creation Schism:
The largest Schism in the Church, this one disagrees on whether their god created the world, or brought order to it. The Iron Hand represents order, and the bringing of order.

Those that see Him as a creator state that the world was made by him, and that the other "Gods" invaded and made their monstrous spawn, the more enlightened ones made mockeries of humans in the form of elves and dwarves and gnomes and similar species, but far more often they created things like Kanim, Felim, and similar.

The Orderists believe the world was once a roiling cauldron of chaos, and that it was the Iron Handed God that brought it to order, forging the other deities, and their ilk, into permanent forms, and then gave the entire world to Humans in order to maintain and bring order to it.

(Other schisms I'll expand upon Originists and Revisionists, other ideas for schisms welcome)

Definitely not. More like the splits between various priests and theologians upon the interpretation of specific texts. Like Catholics with puritanical and interpretive readings of the bible.

The church NEVER was united under a single entity according to the wiki, so while everyone agrees "Humans are dominant and the chosen people of the Iron Hand God, and our purpose is to bring ORDER." There are different interpretations on how that should be achieved.
>>
>>21492430
And somehow, I get the feeling they all still lead to "kill the waifus"
>>
>>21492860
Well, of course. They're not human. Hell, some of the Outrealmers are barely human.
>>
>>21492860
Well all the Waifus are nonhumans >_> nonhumans are, no matter their source, an incarnation of disorder that the Iron Handed God loathes! They are to be purged, or at best, tamed and made to serve their betters as the animals they are.

So I've been here Since the original thread that spawned this, And i thought to write my first thing ever, as This is the first thing that's really caught me, However I Lsot track of it after the 10th thread or around there and only recently have I gone through the archives and Wanted to run the idea by to check if I wasn't shitting all over cannon or something, or going full mary sue/grimderp, anyway as a condensed summary
>berserker type character
>character Comes along with other fa/tg/uys, Wanders off due to reasons to prevent sudden character popping up and never getting noticed despite being here for like 8 years or something
>Gets possessed by insane Anger/War Demon/Spirit Called Knoc, during the warp or maybe after wandering
>gets Power Of regeneration ( most wounds heal in a few moments however He feels all the pain the wound would have caused him), maybe other powers later on
>Due to It is immortal, Unless reduced to a point he cannot regenerate from
>still affected by everything else ( being knocked out, poison etc.)
>albeit with much higher endurance because regen
That's about it what do you guys think, Really bad?, Too marysue? grimderp? ok?

>character Comes along with other fa/tg/uys, Wanders off due to reasons to prevent sudden character popping up and never getting noticed despite being here for like 8 years or something
Yeah, it's sort of an issue for those of us who only popped up around now, huh?
As for the character, you're reminding me of Orson for Lodoss. And I'd love to see an Orson from Lodoss.
>>
>>21493267
I think it could work. The war demon powers COULD end up being bullshit, but that depends entirely on how well you as an author handle it.

If you have a story prepared, can we read it for reference?
>>
>>21493319
Well I just wrote it as "yeaaaah, actually I've been around for a while :D I'm just lower key than the Knights."
>>
>>21493267
>>21493584
Well, if we go the Spirit of Anger route, then it could be something that just possesses him, uses his body as a weapon, and doesn't really CARE about his wounds.
Perhaps a magical item he himself sought out could help him heal the wounds he receives while berserking? But with a catch of course, like the same doesn't apply to wounds he gets while sane?
>>
>>21493584
Sorry, Haven't written anything yet, mostly ideas in my head. Just wanted to run it by before I started.

The war demon powers were what was worrying me about it as I'm not sure where the line is for it
>>
>>21493672
The angle I was going for is they are both in one body but I would be in the forefront outside of berserking so it would be

Normal
"Hi I'm a character"
>Hi I'm Knoc speaking Inside the mind
'this is me talking only to Knoc'

Berserk
"HELLO I AM ANGRY KNOC I WRECK SHIT"
>oh god character in pain
>>
>>21493739
That's Spirit of Anger, basically. Like I said. Orson. Lodoss. I want to see this happen.
>>
>>21493843

Or you could have the spirit of being a suave bastard like moi.
>>
>>21493909
what if the spirit was suave until it got in control, and then unused to having HARMONES and NERVE endings, goes insanely angry? :D
>>
>>21494482
That could be interesting I also need a name but I have none, gonna work on all this tomorrow so just brainstorming at the moment
>>
>>21494482
>male character
>female spirit
>spirit has never experienced testosterone before
>natural levels hit her like a truck full of steroids
>>
>>21494740
>"oh gosh fighting is awfully bloody"
>berserk
>"FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOUUUU"

Could make a neat one off not exactly what I'm going for though

Actually, this brings up something I've been wondering for a while now. What are the (non-sentient) animals like? People have mentioned horses, cows, chickens, and the like. There was also a house cat, but that one's technically an Outrealmer.

I think the unwritten rule is "Like Earth unless otherwise noted.", but I'm not certain.
>>
>>21497466
Some sort of mutated mountain goat, tropical birds with funny names, the magically adapted animals of not-Africa, and non-humanoid counterparts for every monster type.

That's all I've got from thread reading, not adding anything new to the zoo yet.

"Bhikku" means beggar. "Khru" means teacher. Thai is is only actual name.

The human realms are realms of LAW and ORDER above all else. The Iron Handed God created humans to bring order to the world, with their art, with their might, with their thought, and above all, with their Law.

Law is just the best form of Justice, by the Book of the Iron Hand (One of two books of the church, the other is the Book of the Merciful Hand) ((name can be pending if I got the names for Myrthhirs hands wrong... also keep mispelling his name damn it, I just know I do))

There are, however, different views on how this applies.

One set of views is that the Law that the Iron Handed God lay down in the beginning was perfect in every way, and thus all Laws should refrain from changing, and further, should be reversed to the original laws. This is the Originist View. There are Extreme and Moderate Originists. Moderate Originists try to prevent laws from changing, while Extreme Originists attempt to bring laws back to the state they were in at the beginning of the realm.

The Revisionists, instead, believe that as long as laws change in a lawful, and orderly manner, then they are within the will of the Iron Handed God, who in his all knowing wisdom, realizes that times change, but within a fashion that is within his greater design. They welcome changes in Laws, provided they are built upon with precedent, do not conflict with the Book of the Iron Hand nor the Book of the Merciful Hand.

“Are you sure this is a good idea,” asked Bethany

“We’re about to venture into a ruin what’s managed to guard its secrets from everyone else for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years, by way of killing everyone who’s tried so far,” said Artorias. “Of course this isn’t a good idea, but that’s hardly stopped us before, has it?”

“I still don’t see why you decided to do this instead of staying back in the city like everyone else,” complained the elf.

“Not everyone decided to stay behind,” he said, looking over his shoulder at her, “besides, I don’t remember asking you to come along.”

“I didn’t come along because I like you or anything,” she stammered, “I just wanted to get away from my old home was all.”

“I’m sure,” he said, “and I suppose the fact you insist on sleeping with me every night shows that.”

“That’s just because it’s cold!”

He shook his head and held up his lantern, made from a glowing crystal taken from the elves city. They had been exploring a ruin in the foothills to the west of Teegee, looking for anything that could be traded for food or equipment, either for them or to be sent back to the city to help their rebuilding efforts. So far the best he’d managed was to trade some of what they’d found for some decent-looking armor, even if he did feel a bit silly wearing something that he was pretty sure would be considered overkill even by 17th century standards.

So far the pair had stumbled on a few skeletons, killed, as best they could tell, by a pressure-plate activated dart trap, something they had been keeping an eye out for ever since. The fact they had found a few of these was a good sign that there was likely still something worth taking here, it was just a matter of getting to it.

Being surrounded by the dank, moldy smell of stale air make the self-proclaimed knight think about just how much his life had changed. Barely six months ago his greatest ambition had been to fire heavy weapons and sight-see, but now it seemed like a lifetime ago. Since then, he and many others had survived being frozen and starved, organized a militia that had defeated a small city of elves that had been harassing their hunting parties, and now they were delving into places that any sane person would tell them was suicide.

Being followed by a sometimes clingy, sometimes tsundere elf that liked him for some reason wasn’t helping matters much, but she helped keep his mind off of other things. She didn’t help his sanity much, but rubbing her ear seemed to shut her up for a little while.

After a few more hours spent prodding suspicious looking stones with his knife, which turned out to be one of the best investments he had made, they came on a fairly large chamber. While not sure what to expect, the pair could see the glimmer of something gold from the lantern-light. The pair also saw bones scattered around the room, which also helped them see the reason for that.

A great, towering monster, easily fifteen feet tall, wielding a pair of eight foot stone swords with a wicked outward curve, and a strange, rat-shaped skull on its head, this creature would be intimidating even if it wasn’t almost three times the height of the knight. Thankfully it seemed the creature was half-asleep when they got there, allowing the two of them to drop their packs and scramble out of the entryway before the beast could react.

The two of them had fought creatures in a previous ruin, so they knew that such things were best dealt with quickly. Artorias has his greatsword at the ready, his lantern clipped to his belt, circling around one side while Bethany circled around the other with her rapier, keeping a lantern in her left hand. The creature stood and did a motion similar to someone rolling their sholders and then started looking between the two intruders.

The creature decided that Artorias was the bigger threat, so it turned and tried to pounce on him, swinging both the massive blades in an overhead arc. Artorias sidestepped and jabbed at the creature with his sword, making a cut on its arm, but not cutting deep enough to do much damage. Bethany ran up behind the thing and stabbed it in the back the knee, giving the knight enough time to reposition and stab at the creature’s chest, scoring a wound on what he thought was where its lung would have been.

The beast well down as its wounded leg gave out, but managed to keep from falling over by holding itself up with its blades. The two continued to stab at the creature for some time before it finally died, mostly because neither one wanted to get within range of the creature’s blades, which it was still swinging around if either one got within its line of sight. The creature dissolved into a pile of sulphur, a most unusual thing for a dead thing to do, admittedly, but the two made it a point to gather as much of it as possible.

The chamber held a fair amount of treasure, including some gold, a few enchanted weapons, and a greatshield, similar to an elongated kite shield with a strange engraving on it, which Artorias promptly claimed for himself. The two poked around the ruins for a while longer, but couldn’t find anything else interesting.

That night they made camp some distance from the ruins, the two of them still coming down off of the adrenaline high from the fight with the demon. Artorias was making a few notes on some paper about the creature they had encountered while the elf was snuggling up against his side.

“I thought you didn’t like me,” he said, stroking her ear as she pulled his cloak around her.

“I don’t, crazy human,” she muttered into his side, “it’s just cold.”

"a story huh?"
"alright Sit down and listen up"

Looking around theres a whole lot of Nothing

My first thought was a good one considering I just went from a cozy chair in my house to, buttfuck nowhere population, me

"Alright what were you doing, you didn't wake up in a tub of ice so atleast your organs are safe. maybe"

/tg/, image, waif-"fuckingwizards"

That explanation will do for now

Doing a quick body check I find I still have my cloths on me and that's about it
"well It's better than being naked I guess"

And I then notice there's a whole lot of other people around, and more just appearing before me.
"fucking wizards"
from here it almost looks like an odd convention.
Like A snackfood corporation, a fitness expo, and D&D con had some kind of fucked up baby

Alright a lot of confused people. just showed up out of nowhere. looking for a cause. Time to get the fuck out.

So being a sensible man and not wanting to be caught in the inevitable SNAFU this would bring about I promptly make an exit.
After Exiting what I now see to be a Decrepit keep I get a good look at my surrondings

"Let's see we got dangerous dark forest, SNAFU Castle, nothing, and plains."

"Let's go with plains"

Yeah, yeah I talk to myself alot

Walking along the plains, was well boring, Not much around you see besides the ocasional trace of wildlife, grass, and shrubs.
Altough I'm thankful for those bi-weekly hunting trips with my father a fit body and knowledge of woodsmanshi- well I guess plainsmanship in this case
saw me pretty well over the next few days on the old dusty trail.
>>
>>21510194
"this doesn't look like fucking anywhere in america", I Was musing to myself

A few more hours of walking and a rabbit caught, and cooked, praise my father, once again for teaching we the wonders of friction
,and a small hold comes into view

"alright could go there get some rest, shelter, or a bullet through the fucking head"

Alright lets see we got mountains, bullethead hold, or more plains

Pretty grim

As I scanned The horizen, I neglected to hear sneaky bastard behind me

"Halt you toad what are you doing here". who the fuck talks like that

"fuck"

"Drop all your posseions they are now forfeit to the elves"

Elves? what the fuck is this guy on

"listen I just woke up here and what you see is what I go- OW FUCK WATCH IT WITH THAT"

"What? I didn't stab yo-" was all he got out before I twirled and connected with a hook to the jaw

Leaping for his recently dropped dagger, I didn't notice him unslinging his bow.

"haha yeah fucker whos go-OW SHIT", I yelled as I dropped the dagger

Arrow in the. Fucking.Arm.

"WHAT THE FUCK"

"Stay where you are cretin"

This guy even as the fucking fake ears, clothes, and must have a corset on or some shit, he's just to thin

"WHAT KIND OF FUCKING MUGGER RUNS AROUND ON A PLAIN WITH A FUCKING BOW"

yeah fuck this guy I need to get out of here and fast.

think, think, guy high on some shit, thinks he's an elf, no grasp on reali-

"LOOK THE KING"

"What king? Where?"

And I'm out of here

Sir Alaric has multiple arm attachments with multiple settings.

Sir Artorias has three super sensitive nipples and wears a special bra to keep them from getting rubbed.

Sir Dustyn bats for both teams and has the physical attributes to be on all star in any position.

Khru Thai is short a "leg".

Silver once tried Oviposition to see what it was like for her waifu, she need to get healed afterwards.

Kuro the big macho dragon likes to be dressed and treated like a baby.

Belle likes to give a good fisting, she once got up to the elbow.

Olin has a sex book. Not one about sex, one he has sex with.

Sir Kasai and his waifus love a good prank war, which is why they always seem uncomfortable.

Sir Fearghaile a real badass when it comes to diplomacy, hes a real sissy in bed. The cat has more that his tongue

Sir Virgil is the trader from the story about the guy who got the gift of the cursed belt of gender change. She still dances on tables at Moma Rubies'.

Tanash Shacklesbane might live with a bird, but hes the one in a cage. On a long term basis.

Sir GearHeart actually enjoys being a woman. Regardless of what he may say. You should hear the noises She makes in bed.

Meina has a cute little clit, that ain't so little. Makes it hard for her to walk while wearing pants without getting excited, its why she reals skits all the time. This one is my fault. I started stretching it out a long time ago. Its now 4 inches long and one wide. Pumps sure work some magic.

Well, we're going on the notion that they're more or less French, so I'm going with cavalry and crossbows.

I'd imagine they'd have conscript militia with spears and bows.

Nobility as mounted assault. Lances, swords, actual weaponry.

Mercenaries from the free kingdoms who use whatever the fuck they like, and probably the major source of cross bows.

...okay, tried doing one about dealing with a pompous knight that was screwing up in cleaning out some bandits bad enough that his lord hired one of us to deal with the problem instead, but scrapped it a few pages in. It just wasn't turning out right, so now I need a new idea to write on.

We haven't had as much dealings with the Mirthans so I would have loved that story. You'd think we'd get more of those considering we're neighbours.

True, but they have a strong dislike for us.

The story would have said that these guys were so guilty of nepotism that it's actually pretty sad, but it didn't quite turn out how I wanted it to.

I'll try again some other time, preferably not right after I get back from the movies next time.

You obviously have not followed these threads very closely then. There have been more than a few pieces written containing Mirthans, most of them end rather badly. one of the benefits that the harem knights offer if we're hired is that odds are we aren't going to talk about a job if they tell us not to, and if we do everyone will just see it as groundless bragging amongst barbarians and not believe it anyway. i can see us being hired for some of the more "this shit cannot get out" kind of missions

“You cut yourself with a bullwhip. Take a wild guess.” Sera said, pulling the suture across my shoulder.
“Yeah...”
“Where did you even get a whip?”
“I made it out of a giant artery”
“...”
“I think it's semi-prehensile. It's surprisingly easy to use, I just messed up that one lash. Anything else I should know about my back while you're looking?”
“Well, it's still bruised purple, but I think that's from your last foray. And these scars adding up, you're looking like a patchwork doll. Aren't there mages who could fix this?”
“Well, yes. But relatively few; it might get expensive, so I prefer mundane treatments. I suppose I could take from the nest egg.”

“Nest egg?”
“I didn't tell you about the nest egg?”
“Where did you even-”
“It's in the cellar; come look”
“We have a cellar?!”
“Yeah, we just never use it, so all I have is spare junk in there.” I lifted a rug, revealing a trapdoor handle. “A few years back, when Waifu Town started, I invested everything I had earned on my early adventures into as many stores as possible. The interest came back, and I was able to get this house, and stored the rest in here, along with some spare armor and trinkets.”
We ventured in, candle in hand. The dim light revealed a few boxes, and shelves lined with various assorted items.
“What's this?” Sera asked.
“I remember that! It's a heavy gauntlet I wanted to do something with, but never had the chance. I'll have to bring it back up.” I said, prying the lid off a box.
“...Al, how much money is here, exactly?”
“About two, three year's wages. It can last longer if we're thrifty.”
“And you never dip into it?”
“I never really had to.”
“You get burned, cut, and beaten on a regular basis for your job and you never go out of the way to pay for a healer?”
“....I get better.”

Finally finished my thing. It only took me what, a week to get around to it? (As usual, criticism is appreciated.)

----

An adventurer approached me after one of my classes and asked me to come with him on a trip. Apparently he and some of his friends found an interesting ruin in the Wastes, and wanted me to help them investigate. Despite my protests that I had classes to teach and a pregnant wife, he insisted that I come.*

The reason they wanted me in particular was apparently because their mage had felt magic radiating from parts of the ruin; a sealed-off area in particular. That, and their mage sat in on one of my lectures once. Somehow, they convinced me to come. I’ll be leaving tomorrow, and will hopefully return within a fortnight.

*I just realized how much Olin’s writing style has rubbed off on me over the years. Woah.
>>
>>21545074
It’s been three months since I last saw the Wastes; an eternity too soon. And yet, I’m back.

Looks like it’ll be taking us a while to get to where we need to go. The carriage is powered by a crystal engine, so we don’t need to worry about keeping horses healthy. As a result, we just need someone to steer and make sure we don’t hit any rocks. We’ve been keeping ourselves entertained with board games and songs. One of the adventurers likes to sing Here’s to You, which would be nice if the song had more than one verse.

Another irritation is the mage. He doesn’t notice it, but he radiates magic. It’s subtle, but it’s there. A bit like tinnitus, but with a definite source. I’d tell him, but this would probably just make it worse. I’ll tell him when we get back. I did talk to him about his technique, though. Apparently he mostly focuses on offensive spells with a large area of effect, and is entirely self-taught. He’s shown a lack of restraint in the games I’ve played with him, as well. Perhaps one’s personality affects their magical abilities?
>>
>>21545077
After several days and several games of X-COM, we’ve arrived at the ruin. It looks small from the outside, but it’s deceptively large. I don’t think there’s a TARDIS effect here, (space warped so it’s bigger on the inside) but I could be wrong. Anyway, we’ve come to the door they mentioned. It’s... not as big as I’d expected. Quite simply, it’s a door. Nothing big or ominous, just a door. But there are two odd things about it. First, I can sense magic emanating from it. It’s... different than what I sensed from the battlemage. More... specific. Second, there’s no handle. Touching the door makes me sense something else. Something... wrong. Not wrong as in evil, just not correct. This will take some time.
>>
>>21545083
After about half an hour of mucking with the door, one of the adventurers got fed up and decided to make his own. That seemed to work. Beyond the door is a small, circular room. There’s a short pillar in the center, about torso height. Touching the symbol on it gave the same error as the door. My guess is that both the door and the pillar respond to some sort of magic. I just need to figure out what.

----

It didn’t take me longer than about twenty minutes to figure this one out. (Mind, a lot of that time was spent convincing the adventurers to not smash the pillar.) Anyway, I’m pretty sure that it responds to magical input. My problem is that I’ve been giving it the wrong kind of input, entirely by accident. I should note that the battlemage got the same error I did merely by moving his hand near the pillar.

Anyway, let’s first try no input. At least, the closest I can muster.
>>
>>21545091
Well, that was something.

Clearing my mind (after getting everyone else to shut up) and activating the pillar resulted in an infodump not unlike the one I got when I built the perpetual motion machine. This one contained a floor plan, though large portions are marked as restricted. We’re on the ground floor right now, and there are five floors beneath us.

Anyway, the room we’re in is actually an elevator. After some tweaking, I got us to the next floor down. I’ll make another entry after we’ve explored some more.
>>
>>21545096
Infodumps seem to be the standard user interface for all the devices here. Unfortunately, my ability to actually interact with said devices is lacking. I’ll try to explain as best I can.

Upon activating a device it tells me (via infodump) what its purpose is and what I can do with it. This doesn’t mean that I’m immediately familiar with the device, it’s more like reading a manual. I’m given several options; what these are depends on the device. Each option responds to a unique magical signal. The closest analogy I can think of is frequency, though I honestly don’t know how accurate it is.

The first sub-floor appears to be a medical facility and a laboratory. Unfortunately, I can’t find any research stored here. They didn’t use paper, and the devices (I’m hesitant to call them computers despite the similarities) don’t have anything on them. I suspect the data might’ve been manually deleted, but I can’t say for sure.

Fortunately, the devices themselves are still working. Of particular note is a medical scanner connected to a containment room. Anyone in the containment room (in this case, the party I traveled with) can be analyzed to the smallest detail. The report for the mage was considerably more terse, however. I suspect that the magic he unconsciously emits blinded the scanner.

There’s also a semi-automated surgery machine, but I decided not to use it for obvious reasons. I’m sure there’s a lot more to this facility, though exactly what I’m not sure. Most of the areas seem to be locked off, and I don’t know how to open them. Regardless, I will have to come back. I remember hearing something about teleport crystals; I’ll try to get my hands on a pair. For now though, I think we’re done here.

Time to go home. The party’s not too happy about the lack of loot; I’ve promised to make them something as compensation.

Hm, I should've been clearer. First, it's from Wilhelm's perspective. Second, a crystal engine is just a crystal enchanted to rotate until the enchantment runs out, hooked up to whatever you want to hook it up to. Third, it's a board game version of X-COM. In my head, they're using 40k-ish rules.

Anyway, I'll edit the Google Docs version. Even if nobody reads it, it's still good form.

GIVEN THE AMOUNT OF STUFF WE GOT GOING ON AND THE SLOWNESS OF THE THREAD! I AM POSTING THE PROLOGUE AND FIRST CHAPTER OF "In Search of Bats"
>>
>>21555511
No one is sure what lies in the far east, past the forests of the Elven kingdoms. Once, the rivers that ran through the forests were filled with dwarf and human and elf trade. Once, the Elves, while loathed by humans for their once tyrannical empire, were at least tolerated when they had coin to offer, and the same was extended to the apes from the elves. Once, strange silks, and green stones, and odd crafts flowed on this road, far before the Iron Handed God rose to dominate over the west.

Those days ended long, long ago. Centuries ago in fact. The elves closed their borders to trade. They slew all who began journeying in, ignoring their orders to stay out. They closed trade with the nations of Man, and only barely kept them up with the Dwarves until recently. The Colonies of the Chironen came from the east, telling stories of horrors, of spiders, and bats, and shadows that lived and devoured all that they touched. Of mists that moved entire cities about the landscape, and about skeletal riders, slaved to strange humans that fed on blood and souls, but were not demons.
>>
>>21555519
These tales are all but forgotten, with the centuries passage. Only with the coming of the Outrealmers, and their strange ways, their unity, and their defiance against the elves, did it become apparent that something was very wrong, and had only gotten worse, and worse. The elves barely responded to the assaults on their borders, the incursions launched by adventurers... what could possibly occupy their armies so fully that they could not even crush the tiny, but growing settlement on the edge of their lands?

One group of intrepid adventurers sets out to find out about one of their own pasts and bites off more than they can chew.
>>
>>21555527
It was late at night at the Rogue Trader, in the middle of Last Seed in 10 AA, most of the other patrons had left. Leaving just a few die hards and a few night birds. All gathered round one of the large tables as there where that few of them. Stories of home and tails of old were being swapped. Mikela, one of the Chironen and Jistin’s Waifu, was just starting to speak.

“Gearheart,” the dark skinned Chironen chimed, almost literally given the harmonics of her tone, “You’ve been almost as far about as Fearghaile haven’t you? I asked him about this a few days ago, but he had no idea.” She chatters on for a few moments, leading into a tangent, “been all over, to the Dwarven mountains, Serrid, Felim Jungles, Snagletooth, the Gnome lands, the Knoll wastes.” she begins rattling off the list until her husband placed a gentle hand on her bare shoulder, causing her to turn her head, her eyes hidden under a gauzy black cloth to protect her eyes from the light (even after a decade of daylight walking, developing most of her life in the dark had left her eyes too weak to see without pain in even the lights of the tavern).

Jistin smiled, “Love, we know where Fearghaile has been too, just ask Gearheart your question already.” The male was built small by old world standards, clocking in at about 5.5 feet, though by the new world standards, which were used to medieval nutrition and health care, that made him a veritable giant.
>>
>>21555535
His waifu in turn just rolled her eyes, “I was getting to it Het, really.” she gently sticks her tongue out at him and finally turns her gauze veiled eyes, just the hint of oversized pupils in golden irises to be seen behind the black cloth, “He’d never found where my people came from. I had wondered if you had?”

“Legends tell of a race of monstrous bats and people with bat like characteristics far across the elven lands. We have seen some large ones out in the deep elven woods. Nasty place. So I haven’t found them, but I have heard stories. Then again, few have gone all that far into Elven land. A few knights, I tagged along, once made it within five miles of what is supposedly the end of the elven realm. So, no never found where you people came from for sure. Scribblings in books don’t count I think. Especially when written by a demon.”

“Oh?” Hetros and Mikela ask at the same moment, as Mikela leans into her husband, before continuing, where Hetros had waited for Gearheart to continue. “Which demon? How far away is that? Which knigh-?” Hetros very gently placed a hand over her mouth, knowing she’d continue on with every question she thought up, “Give the man time to answer Mikela,” he says before pulling his hand away with a hiss, her teeth having nipped into his fingers.

“Well starting at the beginning, It was written by Corvasmak the winged terror. About a five day flight by his measure. Knights, me and a few others. Nothing all that important, just a simple recon mission.”

“Why did you never check it out? Do you think you could show me the map? Can we go?” The last question framed at Het.

>Captcha: Zalaut Nears!

>>
>>21555545
He looked stunned and a bit scared. Everyone knew he had not set foot outside of the lands of Teegee since that fateful day. He finally spoke up. “No, just... no... there’s WAY too much shit to do around here. Come on, the war golem project is only JUST getting started, and I know you guys were demanding mech-golems just last week. I can give you the map, but leave me out of it.”Mikela looks at him agape, first sad, then angry, about to say something before Gearheart cuts her off (thankfully, Mikela’s angry shouting matches with Hetros were the stuff of legends, and sound-shattered windows)

“Come on, we know you don’t want to get into that again. But when your Waifu wants you to go on an adventure with her you go. Knight or not. Can you really look at her and tell her no? Look I’ll go with, if you want, and I’m sure we can get some others to come along. Make it into one big old expedition of greatness. What do you say?”

Hetros opens his mouth, his brow knitting as he starts to go from scared, to angry. “I-” then he looks down at Mikela, his body already half out of it’s seat. Her face is halfway between angry and pleading, her teeth biting into her lower lip. Sighing he settles back down, “But... Mikela, what about the kids? We can’t just leave them to go haring off!”
His waifu immediately shakes her head, “Do you think the rest of our family is that lacking dear? You know they’ll be fine. Come on, you’re always eating up those maps the others bring back, why are you chickening out here.” Mikela was not stupid, she knew exactly why her husband was chickening out, and her face, despite the lack of eye cues, showed that as it and her tone softened. Her voice was still laced with the slight buzzing tone that allowed her to see even as she spoke, her ears swiveling and twitching to and fro to pick up the bounces of the ultra and subsonic tones her voice put out, mapping the room around her.
>>
>>21555558
“I have to agree with Mikela. Our kids do just fine, and we’re both knights who have to go off to places sometimes. Gearhearts are the same way.” Belle chimed in, putting down her mug.

Hetros sighs, “look, let me sleep on it, and I’ll get the maps for you guys, they don’t go far into the Elvish territories of course, but they’ll be of help. I want to talk this over with my other Waifus and then I’ll decide, alrigh-” He’s interrupted as he turns his head to look at Mikela who looks to be getting back into a fine rage.

Then he felt someone tower behind him, he turned to see quite an imposing man, well imposing to normal folk, loom over him glowering down at him. “Why don’t you just go,” the helmed man started, “Who knows, it might do you some good, physically, spiritually, and maybe,” he leaned closer to the meek architect, “you could somehow redeem ye-self. Also, who are you?”

Hetros all but falls out of his chair with that last statement. “I- ah- I, uh...” he swallows loudly, sweat beading on his forehead as the smaller man, but still muscled like steel cables were under his skin suddenly pushes past Cook, “I’m going home... Mikela, do you want to stay or not?” He says briskly, his voice strained and pupils dilated. Mikela looks at him in worry as he walks off, not even waiting for a response. After all, he’d not even told her the full story about what had happened that day. As he leaves he shouts back, “I’ll have the maps for you lot either way tomorrow.”

“Well I think we just scared your husband off, Cook what the hell did you do this time. Don’t make me get the spiders.” Lilly threatened.

“I did NYOOthing,” he blurted in a foiled german accent, sweating bullets himself.

Mikela for her part bows her head to everyone, saying, “I don’t know what’s gotten into him, I’ll talk him around, don’t you worry.” in lightning speed, and takes off, her wings flapping once or twice almost comically, propelling her forward in leaps and bounds as she catches up with her Husband already outside the Rogue Trader’s front doors. As she left the claws on her toes and from her thumb claws leave deep gouges in the furnishings, something that of all the various clawed visitors and citizens of /TG/, Mikela was particularly careful of.

“Great, now I need to get the claws marks out of the chair and table. Again.” Alice said from across the room.

“Aren’t you happy I stay in my human form when I’m here?” Kuro said with a grin.

“You know it, now I just need to get some certain Kanin to stop going werewolf in here.”

“I can’t help you with that.”

So, question of curiosity....should I work on snake-girl or oni affections.

Oni, by the way, is not what her race calls itself.

Or should I make another trek through the wastes to some unknown purpose.

I vote snake girl, myself. You haven't done that much with her.

Though the oni could be interesting as well. The two might play off each other well, too.

Some groundwork on the Far East is being mentioned in the vampire doc if you'd like to see. Apparently there's an inland sea in the way between not-Russia/Mongolia along with the Silk Wall.

I guess you could write how they interact with one another? That kind of synergy/interpersonal interaction would be interesting to see, culture clash notwithstanding.
>>

I'll take that into consideration and read up.

>>21556781
Interaction seems to be the theme so far...

Why not both?

Jaculye wouldn't leave her egg unguarded, and having it in the Wastes with her was what got her into trouble in the first place.

Affections of both.
