Okay it is the year 2200 and the world ended, not with a bang... More like a few loud bangs and then a fizzle. Basically an enormous asteroid bearing a strange, glowing element (Now Called Geddonite) devestated the world and inundated the environment with this strange, alien mineral.

People acted as they always have. They fought over the remaining resources and society quickly fell to pieces. It's been about 200 years since the impact and YOU are one of the larger groups of people.

Gimme a second and I'll give our civ archetypes a rundown...

Okay 200 years ago your ancestors were the members of a Massive Corporation that provided robots of all shapes and kinds to the rest of the world. They rode out the impace and ensuing resource wars in the 500 story sky scraper that dominates the city ruins deep in the heart of the Dayglo plains.

The city ruin itself is home to savage gangs and horrible mutated animals. Thankfully you don't have to venture out into the city, The Tower has an automated Hydroponics Facility that supplies all your nutrient requirements.

The City Ruins are surrounded by plains, these are fairly standard looking plains, fields of long grass, the occasional tree, wild pigs and dogs yadda yadda. Thing is its also home to massive collections of crystals that glow with every color of the Rainbow. These Are geddonite crystals, a strange alien mineral left over by the impact. Anyway... I'll give you your turn 1 status report in just a moment.
>>
First order of business. Begin design and production of Warbots to be sent out into the city and reclaim it from the gangs and savages. If this requires that we destroy them entirely, so be it. If they are willing to fold themselves into our corporation, all the better.

We need wage slaves for our cubicle farms.

How do we reclaim this wasteland while simultaneously maximizing profits?
>>
We are General Foundries, founded as Fabrique Generale, a cooperative of engineers and scientists specializing in remote systems, databasing, and out-designing the competition all the way to the bomb. And then dropping it on them. What do we make? Anything we damn well please, after we build the tools to make it...though that can take a while.

Our Equity Lords are appointed on the basis of merit, and have guaranteed all junior stakeholders a fair and beneficial portion of the Enterprise ever since the fires of the world cooled to mere cinders. We emerged far less broken than many, and now will do anything to maintain the structure that allows us our mechanical and technological edge. And in the wastes, that can mean anything - but at least we have our drone-assist forward teams.

Let the nuclear winter and the dust storms and the acid rain tear at us. We've dealt with worse.

you don't have the resources for something of this scale. You do have gun rovers though., Basically 100 pound 4 wheel robots with basic AI, radio communications and a built in Assault Rifle. That said exploring your surroindings is probably a good idea.

I would like to know what kind of ideas people have for things to research, develop, and produce.

My ideas include accessing the existing sattelite network, establishing a moon base, and creating a large production facility aside from the obvious, which includes powered exskeletons (power armor) and airships.
>>
With Gun Rover Support General Fabrication Security Forces fan out into the Streets. What they find is quite disturbing. No one has left the tower in 200 years and things have... degraded.

People fight with animals (mutated cats, dogs, and rats) for food in the streets, gangs exchange a variety of drugs and poorly made food along with sex and shoddily made weapons as a form of currency. A few of them are stupid enough to attack your Security Teams but some of the crude firearms they use actually explode when put into use, some simply jam. Though the ones that are usable appear to be effective enough when it comes to killing.

Thankfully GenFab weapons are top notch and more than enough to deal with the half assed gear the Gangers are packing. Your men decide to bring in the corpses and the weapons they're using after doing a general sweep of the area.

The City Stretches out roughly 250 miles in every direction before giving way to a ruined suburb, and eventually, the Geddonite Plains.

continued->
>>
>>21490174
The gangers are subjected to an autopsy in GenFab HQ. They appear to be part of a culture that encourages heavy drug use. There are traces of opiates, amphetamines, hallucinagens, and THC in the systems of all of the autopsied gangers.

The firearms and knives brought back by the Sec teams are very crude, made either by hand, or with the help of primative machines (the most advanced sign of construction being the use of a soddering iron, and very shoddy soddering at that) and the weapons, despite their general simplicity of design, arn't well cared for.

It appears the culture outside the tower is primitive in nature, illiterate, and violent.

Of course that's judging from a fw coked up nobodies with guns. You might want to talk to some people before you make any fast decisions.

If we can find out which groups have the largest chance of creating unmutated children with the minimum of birth defects once given enough assistance to stop being fucking ferals, we can give them slightly better arms than they have and organize them in such fashion that they can take down their enemies. This is assuming they'll pledge their alliegance to us. We'll need food, slightly less crappy weapons than the ones they have, and basic medical care to win them over.

I say we spend next week putting together our first Contact Task Forces. These are to be trained in recruiting the locals and helping them to consolidate a power base, and also in safely extracting orphaned and unwanted children and bringing them back to base.

And it would help if the weapons we gave the locals didn't work too well without us maintaining them regularly, so that those who didn't join us eventually wouldn't get fancy guns and then run off without holding up their end of the bargain.

Finally, the contact teams should have a supply of purer, less damaging drugs to give the locals that cannot be induced without them. 5-MeO-DMT has been successfully used to get people off heroin in the real world, and things like buprenorphine are used as opoid blockers to keep addicts from wanting to go back on the drug. It's not even terribly unpleasant, apparently, your average junkie won't feel the physical cravings anymore.

>>21490430
>>21490442
Okay these are both solid plans, its near future scifi with alien minerals brought in by a giant asteroid so drugs developed by R&D to help people kick their addictions isn't beyond the pale.

Also stripping the area outside of your tower of garbage would net you some plastics, glass, metal, cloth...probably biological waste in the form of corpses...

Anyway developing a sort of armed diplomatic corp is totally within your means. My advice would be to go out there and talk to people, what happened the firt time around is some stupid junkies trie yto kill your guys and take their stuff. You still don't know much about the real culture of the city.

So whats it gonna be guys? Diplomancer training? Scavenging.... what?
>>
>>21490510
I like that you're planning to engage with the population, but our drawback is a lack of people. What do you think of giving them the kinds of drugs that'll stop them from being organ damaged, useless, crazy fucks in time and maybe even get them off the stuff so we can make more use of them rather than less?
>>
>>21490430
We're a little far away from all that. The city's gangers really shouldn't be trusted, at least not until a thorough regimen of detox and indoctrination programs
>>
>>21490510
You saw the standard effects of some very destructive Amphetamines and highly Addictive opiates as well as some hallucinagens and other fairly nasty substances.

if you wanna make drug trading one of your businesses that's fine. I just want to point out that Junkies make for shitty employees and allies so you won't be surprised when they betray you at the first opprotuinity,
>>
>>21490569
I agree they should not be trusted.

That's why I think we should make some Contact Task Forces - groups of armed individuals (forces) who are to be tasked with finding out more about the people around us and getting in the good with them without giving away too much.

That's why I also want to go orphan-snatching - their kids probably don't have the best lives ever.

Also, it's why any weapons we give them will be beyond their means to maintain or reproduce long-term, keeping them from using what we give them against us even if they're completely irrational.

Those guys cannot be trusted to be responsible. Their mindset is likely completely different from ours from 200 years of scavenge and murder. I doubt we can convince them to help us if we do not pander to their baser instincts. They are using drugs as currency, we can supply that. Using drugs as medicine is intriguing, but i doubt it is possible without ridiculously extensive research (remember, even today medicine needs literally years to develop, and we spec in robots)
>>
>>21490610
I doubt we can convince them to lay of the drugs when theyve been high for 200 years. If we are not going to find a non druggie tribe we will have druggies as allies. Is at least my reasoning. But your the GM.

>>
>>21490648
yes, making the devices to mass produce a line of antiaddiction chems is a different story. In the meantime scavenging...

You send some workers along with Sec teams to beautify the area outside your tower. Things are quieter than they were during your first outing. Mostly the streets are full of unusually large vicious animals (which are shot and brought back to HQ) Along with cleaning up The Tower the streets are cleared of Debris and garbage which, when processed in the manufacuring division, proves to be a minor source of resources.

Your men bring in a variety of mutated animals mainly 150 pound dogs, 50 pound cats, and 25 pound rats. They're larger and more intelligent than preImpact animals but otherwise show no noticable deviations from preImpact animals.

You're right, they do make shitty employees.

You get them off the kinds of shit they're on by first switching them onto less serious stuff (some of which is downright harmless and can take them out of the junkie mindset) and giving them opiod BLOCKERS, which stop the cravings.

Okay A: if you want to make getting clean employees easier Detox chems are a must. B: if the city is overrun with chemheads Drugs are going to be a vital tradegood BUT you're going to have to maintain a balance between the use of drugs to get things and staying clean.

I'm just saying this so no one will be surprised when you get hit with a junkie betrayal.

that said its week 3 and you've got some project resources now! You've got plenty of organic materials to make drugs (harmful or benficial) and plenty of processed materials to make mechanical stuff.

A better work environment requires the room to work in and the tools to create it.

We've been sitting in the same space for two centuries. We don't have space to work in; the city or a district of it would be good.

We've been quite nearly resting on our laurels aside from survival-related nonsense. We need to develop these tools.

However, a larger bottleneck is people and the greatest detriment to our work environment is the shitshow outside the doors.

We should cobble together a solution to that. My plan offers the beginnings of one.

After we get a grip on the locals, we can try to tie ourselves into whatever's left of the internet and satellite network. Might give us our own eyes in the sky and camera access quite quickly.

You get together your security forces and carefully choose the more diplomatic members of your Sec forces for a mission. You manage to get together a team of men and women, armed with Rifles, Shotguns, SMGs, Pistols and Accompanied by GunRovers they venture out into the city.

There's some minor resistance from a few gangers, mostly men dressed up in raggedy purple clothing but they don't prove to be much of a threat. Eventually you find yourself at a large barricade. Over the walls of the barricade you can see the spires of a church.

After some effort your men eventually find themselves at an enormous gate made from junk. Men wearing makeshift metal armor and tabards that bear red crosses on a field of white stand on the junk wall. They have old, but well maintained bolt action rifles and most of them have Javelins as back up.

Eventually your men approach the gate and one man holds out his hand. "Lord Bishop Harlan has decreed that no one be allowed to enter the Parish, especially not the sinners who infest this city. However you obviously are different from the rabble so if you swear before god to obey our laws we shall allow you probationary entry to The Parish."

Your Team Led Chief Jack Suede asks what the laws are.

"Thou Shalt Not Murder, Steal, Fornicate, Drink To excess, or Deal In Vile Concotions." Chief Jack asks for claification on "Vile Concotions."

The Other guard, who so far has been quiet speaks up. "Smack, Dope, Angel dust...Y'know...chems."

I find your fixation on aerial recon disturbing, and think it would be to much of a tax on our resources at the moment.

I personally prefer finding out what the customers want and then custom tailoring a product to their taste.

I like the thing about radio transmitters though, that could be very useful.

Cell phone curcuitboards and cameras, plastic bags, and enough electricity to separate some water chemically would not tax our resources, and radio transmitters are ubiquitous as is.

However, we can do some research later as well. The thing is, the customer-provider profit-generation model may be as outdated as the divine right of kings after the impact. We are a cooperative, not a simple profit-generation engine.

Chief Jack Suede and his men swear to abide by the Lord Bishop's laws and ask if they can meet someone of authority. They are quickly ushered into a small red brick building near the gate. Its old, and repaired by liberal applications of plaster, caulk and sheet metal but its servicable enough. A man in a business like outfit made from white cloth with a large red cross on the suit's chest meets Chief Jack and his team.

The man's name is Brother Antonini, and it is his job to oversee the items in the possession of outsiders. After some quick back and forth Chief Jack makes his interest in trade goods and items required by The Parish and what t would take to meet Lord Bishop Harlan.

Antonini states that they would have to be people of importance. He also states that The Parish needs more ammunition for its Rifles, Fuel for its generators, and that sacrimental wine and exotic foods are always welcome.

With that info Jack decides to return to base.

Ammunition is basic, i am not sure we can produce fuel... But exotic foods and maybe even wine would be producable by our Hydroponics. Now its only a matter of securing a route to the Customer.
>>

>>
>>21491516
>>21491453

>>
>>21491446
Our CTFs are at the moment groups of individuals equipped with whatever equipment is relevant to their task. If we need them to go air cavalry later, we can do that.

Cybernetics as in sticking implants in people are a maybe (requires extensive medical support, and if they have a firmware problem and need to be torn out of our best soldiers one fine day a non-implant approach becomes very attractive, so power armor and non-implants for a while). Cybernetics as in waldo units, sure.

There's a definition of 'cyborg' that means 'organism assisted by fabricated implements used to create a system of control that exceeds the organism's biological limitations.' Meaning, every time you wear glasses or use a phone or a can opener, you are a cyborg. No crude shard of silicone or frankenstein-style neck bolts required. So I'd rather roll with a minimum of that and a maximum of genetic alteration and bio-nanomachines and shit. The risk of having to tear an implanted insulin pump out of current real-world diabetics alone is kind of bad news, and a pacemaker is crapper than a specially-grown uber-heart.

>>21491648
We can trade surplus food to them, it's less risky unless their survival is threatened.
>>
>>21491717
The motion for exploration appears to be carried.

anyway you already have SMGs, Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols, and Revolvers, all in common calibers, all with automated ammo production facilities. (You lack population but your automated manufacturing capabilities are the real prize of your origin. big industrial boost.)

anyway The Lord Bishop's men gave you a list of the calibers their weapons use and you can manufacture ammo for them quite easily. You just need to collect some scrap for the ammo.
>>
>>21491754
>>21491717
Then it seems we need to know what we can produce. Is ammo even possible right now? Do we have the ability to produce wine?

It could be that while we have the knowledge, we don't have the facilities to create such things, and if so we need to create such facilities. Or vice versa.
>>
>>21491732

Your men assemble a CTF team and set out into the city. They decide to head in a different direction this time. They encounter heavier and heavier resistance from drug addled men and women who dress in baggy purple clothing. These people wield poorly made fire arms and use garbage as weaponry. They don't pose much of a threat but your men are using ammunition up at a rate that they did not aniticipate.

Eventually they come across a fortress that appears to be one part apartment building, one part junkpile. From the looks of things slaves, haggard, watsed people linked together by chains assemble weapons, clothing, and make food for the gangers in purple under the close eyes of men with scoped rifles. The gangers in this area look healthier and dress in a combination of purple rags and shoddily made metal, plastic, and wood armor.

From the looks of things this area has roughly the same amount of people as the Parish (500.) After expending half their ammo your men decide to call it a day and head back.

Send a CTF team with a shipment of food and an executive council representative to the Parish to attempt to establish steadier relations. Bring a radio transmitter so they can stay in contact with you.

Inform them of the following:

-Pending a meeting with the Lord Bishop, you might support them materially.
-You can supply them with food and medical care, preferably at a favorable rate that allows their people a good chance at a much better standard of living.
-You have a need for information, starting with other groups in the region they know of, the demeanor of these groups or contacts, and their relative locations. A map would be nice.

>slavery
>hostility to vice lords

The biggest threat is that without contrasting ourselves to something our people will not follow us.

We need to run an internal marketing survey asking our people what they think of the vice lords and the slavery. The largest risk is that if our members hate it and we do nothing, no propaganda campaign on our part will convince them that they're following the right people.

In a cooperative, that has consequences. Hell, it even has consequences in a crappy profit-extraction wage-slave megacorp - but those are for the likes of Henry Ford and his goddamn work-camps in south america.
>>
>>21492199
As i think should have been visible from my... Fuck, my brain is full of corporate speech.

>>
>>21492199
ending slavery isn't white-knighting, slavery is just a gddamn inefficient answer to a need for labor and if we have robotics on our side then all it is is a population we could put to better work after educating

unless we have AI, slaves are future knowledge workers that will willingly join you doing jobs best reserved for tractors and combine harvesters and factory bots
>>
>>21492243
Clarification: This member strongly supports General Foundries becoming a stabilizing force within the city, but ending slavery is not a necessary step in doing so. CERTAINLY, not anymore necessary than anything else. This member reminds the Equity Lord that we are members of a board, not crusaders seeking to end what may be a socially-accepted practice.
>>
>>21492266
Acquisition and indoctrination of slave workers does have its uses, and will need to be discussed more thoroughly in the future.

For the moment with the visual info on increased activity coming our way, I ask the Board if we know how we want to handle it? This is a potential opportunity for establishing some Shock among the Vice Lords.
>>
>>21492287

OOC: Okay guys, just becuase slavery is viewed as an abhorrent practice now in the western world doesn't mean it always was, or even still is 200 years later. Granted slaves were treated a lot better in 200BC than they were in the 1700's.
>>
>>21492287
You have very basic AI, this AI was only ever meant for BombRemoval bots and was hastily modified for the GunRovers (which, whilenot teribly intelligent are good at following orders) So yeah recruiting the slaves is probably a good idea.

>>21492243
While your people have lived under the slogan "We're all in this together!" for like... 200 years they still don't like the idea of slavery and barbaric behaviour in general. Your government model is roughly 1/2 traditional democratic and 1/2 corporate culture.

We'll show them that we are a bulwark, but we won't show them our full strength.

Have our commanders put together a plan that works to minimize risk to our operatives and maximize odds of turning them back without showing them every toy in our arsenal.

Have the sharpshooters or the robots or whatever do their best to eliminate commanding officers and inform the rest that we'll let people join if they want to voluntarily enter our service, then test the anti-drug program on them.

With our height advantage we should easily be able to observe them and identify their commanders.
>>
>>21492334
>>21492368
Speaking of the GunRovers, I think they might be key to any reception we might plan for Vice Lord forces. While there is the obvious trade-off in showing a part of our hand, I think the gamble for further establishing a 'mystique' about our capabilities is worth it.
>>
>>21492341
Note that while its lkikely that Indentured servitude or bronze age style slavery is probably practiced in the wasteland the Vice Lords are quite literally working people to death.

I would suggest applying a case by case basis to the forms of slavery you encounter, tolerance for efficient slavery, intolerance for barbaric slavery.

But I'm just the GM. Take or leave my advice.
>>
>>21492368
Affirmation: So the majority of our employees and board members view slavery as a bad thing in and of itself, fair enough.

I hereby vote to establish radio contact with the Parish for a more permanent relationship.

I also vote to begin another scavenging mission, near the tower, clearing the nearby buildings of debris and such. Initially, these buildings can house enemies, but if we wish to establish some sort of secondary class of defense interns, it would be best to keep them outside the Tower itself. In this regard, I suggest we not destroy them, but survey them.
>>

>Your government model is roughly 1/2 traditional democratic and 1/2 corporate culture.

This is called a cooperative, basically.

Cooperatives are a form of public or private company that have been around for centuries. The workers have shares in these, they vote on working conditions and other matters.

The Vice Lords very intelligent. Brutal and merciless, yes. But not intelligent. Your commanders were prepared for an attack from the sewers or night assaults. SOMETHING involving stealth. Instead the Vicelords marched into your territory with the younger, weaker members at the head of their army.

They wound up facing an unexpected opponent. Gunrovers weigh 100 pounds, are powered by a biodiesel engine and are equipped with an assault rifle. They have a radio for communications and six optical lenses. While many of them were heavily damaged or flat out destroyed by the vice lords they proved to be enough of a distraction that sharpshooters were able to kill any bvious "officers" Within 15 minutes of engagement the Vicelords assault fell apart.

You managed to capture about a dozen junkies after the subjects in question had nervous breakdowns in the street. They vary in ages from 12 to 17 and are an equal group of males and females. They're clearly addicted to amphetamines and opiates.
>>
>>21492549

Yes, but that's dependent on if we need to move into those buildings for low-level expansion or not. Clearing an area around the base of the tower for defense is very reasonable.

Long-term defensive idea: Radially out from Tower: Cleared area 1. Wall. Cleared area 2.

Cleared area 1 is completely empty. Tunnels lead from the Tower to the Wall for movement of troops. This area is only used for recreation and remotely operated mines that are used in case outer defenses are overrun.

Week 5:
Population: 250
Technology: Robotics, Basic AI, Basic Automation, Basic Comms, Basic Anti Ballistics, Basic Firearms, Hydroponics.
Weapons: Assault Rifles, SMGs, Shotguns, Semi Auto Pistols, Revolvers, Combat Knives.
Armor: AntiBallistic Vests, Riot Armor
Soldiers: Gun Rovers, Security Guards.
Contacts:
The Parish: Nuetral
The Vice Lords: Hostile

Prisoners: 12 junkies.

A: Explore
B: Scavenge For Supplies
C; Construct Something New
D: Research New Technology
E: Make a Suggestion.

The junkies are malnourished, missing teeth, and one is suffering from an advanced case of syphilis (she's 14.)

It is still week five. The Vice Lords have been routed and are returning to their stronghold. Examination of the casualties indicates that 90% of the junkies killed were around 12 to 20 years of age (the same could be said of all the junkies and soldiers that you've been fighting since day 1.)

While you have lost some GunRovers, the numbers are not large enough to impact your supply of battledrones.

Put the junkies through a detox program and see how receptive they are to the idea of a better life. Give them food and medical care and a taste of better standards. Maybe the teenagers will enjoy a solid meal and a safe place to sleep.

Undertake an effort to check them for mutations.

Clear the area around the tower, recycle everything, deconstruct the buildings, etc. Establish a perimeter and build a wall if possible, preferably something that can take anti-material fire. We'll put up watchtowers soon enough.
>>

We have access to existing anti-addictives, opium blockers, etc. All we have to do is give them to the prisoners.

We will likely need to standardize a process for detoxing and debriefing them, but let's give them anti-addictive chems, let them detox, do psychological evals, and debrief them. And provide medical care, obviously.

>>
>>21492866
Good question, I might need to know that later.
>>
>>21492838
I am unsure as to current prisoner location. You are probably correct.

I suppose that my thoughts lie that, in general, admittance to the Tower for future immigrants needs to be throttled. They serve their time in the Buffer Zone before they gain citizenship. Perhaps I am thinking too far ahead.
>>
>>21492778
Well they're very worried about being killed, but so far you've just kept them quarantined (Especially the girl with syphilis, in between the drugs, her disease, and what appears to be the results of a miscarraige she's quite fragile mentally.) Aside from that they're more than happy to do whatever they're told if it means they won't be tortured or executed.

They don't appear to be heavily mutated, though there's a predominance of unusual hair colors that don't appear to be the result of dyes. (Blood red hair, blue hair, indigo hair, green hair...) as well as unusual eye colors (usually a match for their hair) and they have unusually large canine teeth. Aside from that, normal humans.
>>
>>21492864
Submission: Using this week to standardize the process has my vote.
Inquiry: Are all other members of the board willing to wait until these potential recruits are dealt with before looking at expanding into unclaimed buildings?
>>
>>21492891
We should build some company towns after we've started clearing land, etc, outside the exclusion zone.

Eventually the Tower will either be our forbidden city, with a wall and open fields separating it from our (also walled) local community, or the center of our new settlement. I vote for the former.

We can also dig out a large subterranean installation surrounding the tower - gives us the benefit of easy access to underground facilities without compromising our defenses and line of sight.
>>
>>21492864
Funfact: The curative agent penicillin is not the mold. It's produced by the mold.

What we need is a priority list. I say we meet with the Paris to formalize relations next week, then clear the area and put up the wall, then explore the sewers.
>>
>>21493159
Submission: I think a priority listing is in order.

1) Induct juvies, standarize outside recruitment process
2) Formalize relations with Bishop
3) Clear area (is this really necessary? With 500 floors with have a ridiculous amount of living space already)
4) Build up tradeable resources
>>
>>21493063

it will payoff on the long run though.

but you have a point.
>>
>>21493218
And 5) Make Flaming Guns
>>
You have medics attend to the junkies, they're young, and have been heavily abused by the Vicelords but the Shrinks think that with some therapy they'll be suited for positions that have someone who can keep an eye on them at all times.

The Girl with spyhilis is treated and carefully educated on the long term effects of the veneral disease that she has contracted, she proves to be surprisingly tough once given a little encouragement.

Overall your Psych experts and HR officials manage to aquire enough data to develop a standard indoctrination and evaluation procedure. They get some people together and begin the long, slow process of detoxing the junkies and turning them into healthy, productive members of society.
>>
>>21493218

Clearing the area is for security. if we have enough space we can demolish those buildings now.
>>
>>21493256

>>
>>21493275

>>21493218
I second this Priority List.
>>
Week 6:
Population: 262
Technology: Robotics, Basic AI, Basic Automation, Basic Comms, Basic Anti Ballistics, Basic Firearms, Hydroponics.
Weapons: Assault Rifles, SMGs, Shotguns, Semi Auto Pistols, Revolvers, Combat Knives.
Armor: AntiBallistic Vests, Riot Armor
Soldiers: Gun Rovers, Security Guards.
Contacts:
The Parish: Nuetral
The Vice Lords: Hostile

A: Explore
B: Scavenge For Supplies
C; Construct Something New
D: Research New Technology
E: Make a Suggestion.

For the sake of simplicity I've included the recovering junkies in your population count. They're part of janitorial now I guess.

anyway you have a standard evaluation and indoctrination process now, which should work on most junkie you encounter (frankly they're dumb as hell.) Obviously the standard procedure won't work on everyone.

Now what?
>>
Rolled 60

>>21493218
We're clearing land around the tower to shoot people. It's a very old and very soundly proven tactic for maintaining control over an area - turn it into a place where only a heavily armored vehicle could survive, as opposed to a rubble-obscured shithole where guerrilla fighter tribals armed with homemade shotguns could hamstring your forces.

>>21493063
>>21493234
The idea that they'd be unable to shape up is quite troubling. If someone tells them what the outside world is like, I expect most misbehaving employees shape up without the need for murder. The rest are crazy, and not all of those are dangerous - some can be safely employed under certain conditions, others possibly experimented upon with family compensation and permission. Those we have no use for might still be supported by family members. The extremely dangerous, useless crazies can die, sure.
>>
>>21493242

This week's priority, as mentioned in:
>>21493296

>>
>>21493304
Ah ha, more boiler monkeys and mop jockeys! Fulltime hammock-laying here I come!

Hey~ I have some friends!
>>
>>21493293
The parish are prudes" but appear to be fairly peaceful, though they have a tendency towards brutality (cutting the hands off theives, stoning qadulterers to death. Old Testament style behaviour)

The vice lords like to kidnap children and women, get some addicted to drugs, work the others to death, sometimes they work addicts to death. Apparently the whole thing is ruled over by the junkies who live the longest and manage to kill higher ranked members in ritual combat. They have a fondness for ostentatious clothes, sex, and drugs.

apparently there's a big building somewhere in the city and thats where the giant animals came from. Also sometimes people disappear around there and come back "different" when asked "how different" the kids just shrug as say "thats all the stories say." After taking one of the kids up to the roof they point out a 120 story tall skyscraper and say that's where the area people disappear from.

aside from that they don't have much to say.
>>
>>21493365
That's sloppy thinking. First, we can always make the procedure better. Second, we can experiment on the failures. Third, why waste the bullet? Energy spent killing people can be spent elsewhere, and they'd pose little threat to us unless they were actually violent. They don't want to get off chems but will leave us alone? Whatever, we can't be bothered.
>>
>>21493330
I am actually okay with giving this man a flamethrower, as long as we keep him pointed in the right direction.
>>
Rolled 3

>>21493330

I think this is a reasonable project for a future time. Fire is scary. Humanoids are scared of scary things (I checked with my staff).

If we can talk to munitions, maybe they can devise adding simplistic launchers onto the rovers as well as giving 2-3 "grenades" to each squad (with appropriate training [I'll start writing employee memos for grenade handling and sensitivity!!]) of sufficient quality that won't cause danger to our employees.

However, for now I think that is a backburner issue.

Proceed with Parish relationship cementation.
>>
>>21493418
Flamethrowers are smalltime. Flamethrower artilley, on the other hand...
>>
>>21493404
So the only two real powers here are the Parish and Vice Lords. It's easy to see which we should support, and which we should siphon off recruits from.
Submission: Leave the animal building alone for now, establish ourselves here first.
>>
>>21493404
Do we still have much in the remains of captured animal corpses and tissue? Or have those been effectively rendered down during earlier vivisection and examination?
>>
>>21493444

I change my idea from Flaming Guns to Flaming ARTILLERY. We can put them on the Gun Rovers and make them burn the people we don't like like the peoplewhomademeangrythatonedaywhenIbroughtasandwichtoworkandtheytookit.

>fProjui Moses
Next we should get control of Water, apparently.
>>
>>21493411
Justification: Then we lose the element of mystique and fear (yes, even if we are loved fear is also good to have as well) when words gets out of our operating procedure.
>>
Okay you can see fro the tower that the Vice Lords are an important part of the city. You basically just kicked their teeth in. That means people have to notice you, like The Parish, who just thought of you as travellers.

Foir starters you need to figure out what, if any Iconography you're going to carry (I figure you've been running around with the General Fabircan logo emblazoned on everything...), secondly you need a pitch, and third you need to figure out how to approach The Parish.

Then there's the simple fact that the parish haven't really talked about what they can supply in terms of trade goods.
>>
>>21493460

Hmm, I don't think we can justify this in a PR sense.

Also, if we're keeping the detox in the lower floors, then our mystery remains.

Inform them of the following:

-Pending a meeting with the Lord Bishop, you might support them materially.
-You can supply them with food and medical care, preferably at a favorable rate that allows their people a good chance at a much better standard of living.

Part D of the giving should be part of trade agreements, as this consulate will assist both parties.

Part C of the return is unacceptable, as our facilities are not to be inspected. Although, we do like the idea of literate workers.

The electrical grid will be an excellent long-term proposal. We can share electricity. Terribly egalitarian, wot wot.

Extra intelligence on other factions always a plus.

More guns not needed.

Continue the negotiations, Mr. Fisher!

While some of what's on the table is poor compared to what we have, if we do take them up on these offers I suggest we go ahead and take some of the sillier stipulations. Purchasing some electricity from them might, at least in the short-term, further obfuscate our capabilities to outsiders, assuming we want to do that.

Putting together a statement for them, from us:

To the Lord Bishop,

The Executive Council of Fabrique Generale sends you its warm greetings. Your parish is a pleasant and welcome contrast with the waste in this altered cityscape, and your request regarding the behavior of those that visit you are to be abided by our emissaries and their wards. We should like to extend you an offer of trade - foodstuffs, medical care, and information might be exchanged for the benefit of both our communities, as well as an ammunition and raw material exchange, training in dealing with the wastes, and other beneficial arrangements.

It would suit us well to build relations between our communities to a point wherein we could work toward mutual defense, and as a first step we would seek to create a communications relay between them. In our possession is a radio transmitter which, should you allow it, we would install in a small consulate on Parish grounds located where your community would find convenient.

This consulate would come with a standing security team for the protection of both our representative and your community, should you need to call upon it, and an offer to allow you to send one of your emissaries to our location should you desire to do so.

Please appraise us of your opinion on these matters when convenient.

In confidence,

Agreed that inspection of Tower facilities is not on the table. However, establishing a Parish worker camp in/just outside the Exclusion Zone (assuming we have a consensus on that as I think we do) might be what they're talking about in 'facilities'.

We don't have to employ literate workers in the main facility or around equipment sensitive to espionage.

We could just have them teach the junkies to read, frankly. Or work in machine shops. Or travel the wastes as mobile medics and teachers with our teams. Or who cares.

Naturally the emissary from the parish would be housed in a secure area with basically no access to any technology he'd be likely to steal. The equivalent of a nice hotel room in the Tower, or near it.

They want us to follow the ten commandments, man. I dunno that we'd need the emplacement to be permanent, we can have them on rotation etc but the local kids are basically crazy christians. I suggest mostly sending married employees there who aren't tempted by anything they see and know they'll be home on weekends.
>>
>>21494104

That's more or less the plan, yes, but if they're willing to supplant our labor force we shouldn't take it off the table.
>>
okay the Bishp's reprasentative Juliard wants 10000 rounds of rifle ammunition (that's about 20 for each person in the parish, 2 rifle reloads)

in the meantime, literate workers, yea or nay? You can still set up a forbidden city in your Tower and keep new recruits in a city outsid eyour tower.
>>
>>21494132
A good thought. Biggest concern was a horny soldier sampling the local delicacies, or vice versa.
>>
>>21494157
I might be simply feeling stubborn and contrary but I feel like we should not acquiesce to every term they proffer without at least the semblance of haggling. We're in a position of power right now.
>>
You inform Juliard that inspection of your work facilities is forbidden and that this is nonnegotiable. He understands and points out that he still requires 10000 rounds of rifle ammunition before the trad agreements can go anywhere.

With that saidJack and Reggie head back to the tower without incident.
>>
>>21494157
>>21494206
We tell them that if they can get us the scrap metal equivalent of that much ammo plus, say, 10% (or whatever a reasonable figure is) for overhead and the labor of helping with carrying it to our territory under armed escort, we can do that.

Yea to literate workers, but their first task will involve surveying the parish and preparing data, tools, etc that we'll need to do things like build them an energy grid.

Proceed with previous priorities: tear down buildings around us to clear an exclusion zone, recycle materials. Copper + zinc = brass, and if we don't have some capacity to create the alloy we're building a small smelter next week.

...Can we make the fire artillery with the Smelter?

Sure, you have all kinds of cool guns, riot armor, antiballistics vests and loads of other technological advancements but its the Manufacturing capacity you hold that makes you a true power to be reckoned with. In a matter of hours your automated Fabricators produce 10000 rifle rounds, package them and send them down to the loading docks. from there the CTF team collects them and does a quick courier run, bringing the tradegoods to the parish.

You are informed with a very formal letter (written on yellowed parchment and sealed with wax) that the Lord Bishop is honored that you have accepted him as your spiritual shepherd and that he will pray for your soul. Also, he's building the consulate as asked and requests that you use the radio thatyour people left with his people to coordinate cosntruction of the compound.

Your men get sledgehammers, axes, pick axes, and a variety of power tools and get to work demolishing buildings around The Tower. There's some resistance from animals and a few vagrants but it's nothing a man with a rifle can't handle. It takes the better part of a week but eventually you manage to level and process roughly a block or so of buildings around your Tower. It will make getting closer to your Tower much more difficult for a would be sabotuer.

Still pretty dark at night though.

-exploring the surrounding sewer network
-building up tradeable resources

If you're adding 'develop drones,' I might suggest that instead of screwing around with research we erect anti-aircraft emplacements to shoot those aircraft the fuck down in case they start anything. Anti-aircraft guns require no research, I should hope - they've been around and computerized since 1950.

We're talking mostly deconstructing and recycling the materials, but we can demolish with explosives, etc if absolutely necessary.

Okay the Parishners say that there's one other faction of importance in the city. They live in a fortified military base on the edge of the city near the geddonite plains. The own the flying machines and mostly keep to themselves. Occasionally they enter the city, kill anyone that gets in their way, take what they want and return to their settlement. So far they've never attacked an inhabited settlement.

okay air drones can either be attack drones or recon drones. attack drones have enough range to enter the city, hit a target and leave. A recon drone can leave the city and explore, also it can serve as a spotter.

AA guns can be Machine guns or Flak guns, you'll wind up developing both if you go for AA gun research. Cause, why not?
>>
>>21495292
How long would it take to both develop and produce aerial drones?

AA defenses would take about a week, IIRC, so they'd be done faster.
>>
>>21495332

The sewers are interesting because an assessment of them will allow an expansion of supterranean facilities and an understanding of any vulnerability we have to an attack from below.

I also vote that every heavy weapon we produce have "ULTIMA RATIO REGNUM" ('the last argument of kings.' printed on them. This was used by Louis XIV and is a damn good product tagline for our weapons range. And there's no copyright infringement.
>>
>>21495365
Justification: The AA guns would only be useful wherever we deployed them. Attack Drones would give us a maneuverability and frightening advantage that we wouldn't otherwise get.
>>
>>21495374
>>21495386
both drones would take a week each, which would matter cause any one of these projects will eat up all available resources forcing you to find more resources to make more stuff.

note that the attack drone would basically have a pair of assault rifles attached to it. Frightening but not very effective for anything, except I guess forcing enemies into cover. You put your engineers to work and they take the designs of your current weapons and get to work figuring out the best way to turn these into anti air craft devices. Eventually 2 main schools of though prevail. One launches a shell that explodes into shrapnel in mid air, damaging flying the vehicles, the other is a very large machinegun. Both have computer tracking systems and manual overrides.

After a bunch of these are produced they are very carefully mounted on the tower and readied for combat.
