Good evening /tg/. Let's play a game together.

You are Daisuke Nakamaru, a recent graduate of the Hidden Rain Village Academy. At the age of ten you are one of the younger graduates, a mark of the absolutely drive you have and your ability to accomplish whatever you put your mind towards. And so, in the interim period between your assignment to a squad and your graduation you are left without much to do.

So today you find yourself standing on the training field, where you have so often bled and sweated to the point where you are. Only four years ago were you just a normal child, and now you are a fully fledged shinobi. However, even to your young eyes, you realize the utter weakness you posses. That, however, doesn't bother you. You overcame the age expectations set by your village, and you can overcome whatever stands against you. This isn't arrogance, merely fact. What shall we do today, young Genin of Amegakure?
>>
>>21539495
Is this genin apart of a squad or have some teammates we could train or go on a mission on perhaps?
>>
>>21539495
Today? We train. Same as we did the day before that, and same as we will do the next day until we have no need of training, and we are buried - or we have no body to be buried.
>>
>>21539548
Haven't been assigned a squad just yet. So we may as well do some training. Looks like all of our teammates will be older than us, may as well make them feel inadequate for not training their assess off every waking moment of their lives.
>>
>>21539548
>>21539554
>>21539646

We aren't part of a squad yet. The order hasn't come down for us to be assigned yet. We do have some friends from our Academy days, but they're still in training for two more years, while we are graduated with students two years older than we.

Drawing your kunai you begin throwing them, the same steady way you always have. Your progress has been a steady slope upwards, just a little more sharply upwards than everyone else.

As you work on your training for an hour a voice cuts through the rain. "Daisuke. You never change." It's your teacher from the Academy, a kindly older woman named Miwa. She walks over to you slowly as she glances at your targets. "Training as always, eh Daisuke? I'm surprised honestly. Most children your age want to have fun and push girls into puddles, rather than train." She said with a smile, "But then again, I suppose you aren't a child anymore. You're a shinobi. I haven't had a chance to congratulate you yet." She said and put her hand on your head, "Good job, Daisuke, you really did very well." The old woman was very quick to catch onto your burning desire to succeed and, in fact, was there to guide you more in other areas of shinobi training when your class got caught on a point and you were ready to go on. "So, have you been assigned your squadron yet?" She asked as she gathered the kunai from the target and handed them back to you. This was an old game you two used to play, talking and trying to keep the conversation flowing even while training. Her kunai throwing was incredible. Truly artful. You had never beaten her in the four years you had known her.
>>
>>21539686
Well, start beating her then. Try and top her each time she throws one as you speak.

"Not yet."
>>
>>21539739

"That's not unusual. The village has a difficult time gathering funds, these sort of things take a lot of time. Our village is not like it used to be." She said and as you throw to top her, she smiles, seeing this and starts throwing her kunai to dislodge yours and take their place. "You know you're going to be placed with older shinobi, right, Daisuke? How do you feel about that?" She asked idly, her old gray eyes watching your body's movement as you throw.
>>
>>21539789
"I look forward to proving I won't be a hindrance for them despite my age."
>>
>>21539789
...Knock those Kunai out of the way, damnit all.

"A challenge."
>>
>>21539789
"Honestly? I'm excited, but a little nervous at the same time. Is that weird?"
>>
>>21539789
"I don't know. For once, I finally get to put all this to good use for the village. I should be satisfied, but right now, I feel inept. I should be out there right now, not here spinning my wheels."

I take it our little ninja is super-competitive. He's a hard worker, but he hates it when someone outdoes him.
>>
>>21539899
That sort of mindset has to come from somewhere, and not just because the Rain Village is something of a shithole. Rough family life?
>>
>>21539833
>>21539852
>>21539853
>>21539899
>>21539908

(Very good on the hard family life.)

You start to dislodge hers, but yours unfortunately do not always stay in the target as nicely while she keeps topping you very slightly. "No, not at all. It's normal to be nervous, but with your record of effort, it should be no problem for you to meet their expectations and exceed them. Just don't give up on your virtues." She said and finally she threw one right in the middle, crossed her arms triumphantly, and as she did so you threw one which knocked hers up into the air, yours into the target, which allowed hers to land in the ring at the back of the kunai and come to a stop.

"You have come so far, Daisuke." She said and smiled as she stretched, her bones creaking almost as she adjusted her headband. "Just remember, I'm always here to help you, even when you're stronger than I am. Surpass me! My time has come and gone, and I wasted it drinking sake and mooching free meals off nobles. I want you to have a life you can be proud of." She said, her words full of kind sentiment. However, your path is set. You know full well that you will never stop pushing. After all, you can't ever fail His expectations.
>>
>>21539933
Oh boy a capital H for the "His". Arbitrarily tragic backstory Ho!
>>
>>21539933
Who is this His we cannot fail?
>>
>>21539998
Hey, hey. At least we're not one of those asshole Uchiha fucksticks.
>>
>>21539908
He's a ninja. That's almost a given in this series.

>>21539933
Don't look at her directly as the rain runs over our face. "Of course." And continue training. Suppress the urge to hug her like the mother we don't have.
>>
>>21540012
Imagine killing a Uchiha Fuckstick as you keep training.
>>
>>21540016
>>21540012
>>21540007
>>21539998
>>21540063

He was not your main drive. You knew, since you were little, that you always wanted to win. As Miwa walks away you continue your exercise for the day and then head home.

The house is quiet, all the lights off, as usual. You turn everything on and get yourself some dinner. A small envelope of money was on the table with the mark of the Kage's office. Clearly your Father was out and busy again, so you wouldn't be seeing him for months. As you walked around the apartment idly you saw the two doors that led to bedrooms that weren't yours. One was your Father, who was a Special Jonin of the village and was often called away for missions. At home he just slept. Your relationship was distant. The other room belonged to your brother, Haru. He had left the village when you were very young, and you don't remember much of him. But what you do remember is his radiant smile, his strong back which you often rode on as he carried you around the village, and his overwhelming presence as he told you. "Anything can be yours, in this world, with the virtue of work." Those words rang true to your mind even to this day, but since he left the house you never dared to open his room, almost as if it was a sacred shrine.

Do you dare to now? The door should be open, no reason it would be closed.
>>
>>21540063
I had a naruto themed game once.

Uchiha got genocided early. DM kept trying to pull "survivors"out of the woodwork for ANGSTY DRAMA but they never lasted long. White phosphorous does that
>>
>>21540123
Do it. Too odd for it to be closed.
>>
>>21540123
Don't see why not, especially if something is ajar or out of place.
>>
>>21540063
I feel this is the proper form of motivation for any young murder machine. Killing fucksticks is it's own reward. Double so if said fuckstick is an asshole with Jesus eyes.
>>
>>21540123
No. Never open that door - that is Haru.
>>
>>21540123
No way man, we can't go invading his privacy like that.
>>
>>21540123
Open it. We're no longer a child; we're a fully-graduated shinobi, and that means being a tool of the Village.
This will truly separate the present from the past.
>>
>>21540178
>>21540181
>The door should be open, no reason it would be closed.
Either I'm misreading the post, or the door is supposed to be open and is not right now. Something's up, and no one screws with Daisuke's castle.
>>
>>21540175
I disagree.
Getting PAID because it's a mission, is a better motivation.
We're not a random murder machine, we're a targeted murder machine.
>>
>>21540229
We're starting to sound like Shimaru, the hero of the first FNG, but at least Shimaru was a decent enough guy, if something of an operator. Daisuke here is a different case almost entirely. It's too early to call him a sociopath, but his singleminded focus towards success is almost disconcerting.
>>
>>21540161
>>21540174
>>21540178
>>21540181
>>21540196
>>21540209

(I meant to say, "no reason it should be locked")

You grip the handle and turn it. The air that rushes out is cool and refreshing. Despite the years the door remained closed the air wasn't stale, it was fresh. It was ready for you. Inside you find everything clean and militantly neat. His bedroll was neat and up against the wall. The desk had all his scroll-writing equipment put away with his bone-handle brush neatly in the well. A small note rests on the ground.

"Daisuke. If you are reading this you are a shinobi. I know you would not step into this room until you were ready. If you are a shinobi, I am proud of you. You have entered a world of violence and pain. You will survive, nay, thrive in this world because of your strength of spirit. Never let your spirit die. Never give up your path. Remember, when you are ready, when you are strong, you can again meet me, and this time as an equal."
>>
>>21540275
Well, at least big bro Haru means well.
>>
>>21540275
Huh. Guess we gotta train hard to take him on. By left the village, does that mean he's rogue nin?
>>
>>21540273
True, but teaching a mercenary outlook is probably common among the ninja academies, seeing as how the economies of the Villages are completely dependent on income from contracts.
>>
>>21540275
Nod. Place the note back down, swallow the tears. Leave his room, lock it again.

Train.
>>
>>21540310
>>21540308
>>21540305
>>21540293

Any shinobi who leaves the village is a rogue, even if they don't carry any secrets. You can't leave once you're in. Haru, thus, is persona non grata in Amegakure. He has a kill on sight order to his name. Fortunately, however, Amegakure doesn't have the resources to go hunting for him.

You leave the room and lock it, It's odd, you think, that he would want to fight you. After all, Haru did nothing in your past to encourage you to fight him, nor did he seem to position himself in any way as bad guy. He didn't commit a crime and flee, he simply walked away one day with his bag over his shoulder and left. You never knew why.

As you think on these thoughts you complete your nightly ritual. You clean every single inch of the house, you wipe every single surface down, you polish every single tool you possess, you make sure the entire house is absurdly clean. Just in case your Father shows up.

It takes you seven hours to complete this ritual and after it is all done you finally walk up to your crisp tidy bed and can sleep now. It's 1 AM. You are very tired, but you could find something to do. After all, the curfew that applies to children doesn't apply to shinobi like you. Just make sure to wear your headband. Though...you wouldn't want to be gone if your Father comes back. He tends to not be happy when that happens. It has only happened once. And you fear for it happening again. Is now the time to be a man?
>>
>>21540389
It is time to be a man.
>>
>>21540389
Go ahead and sleep. We're driven to succeed, and that means acknowledging when it's time to recharge the batteries. Although we should probably find our own place at some point.
>>
>>21540389
We can train at home, as we do. Sit up,s pull ups, target practice on somethign don the hall that we can hide easily. Genjutsu on small rodents. Wall walk, punch something until sore.
>>
>>21540389
We will finally go to sleep.
>>
>>21540419
>>21540478
>>21540494

A brief round of calisthenics gives you time to think your decision over.

You realize it would be good to rest. But also, you can't shake the memory of the last time your Father was as displeased as he was when he came home and you were there. It was a terrible sight, and you unconsciously touch the small of your back as you think on it.

Safer to sleep, you resolve. Sighing you settle down onto your bed, still awake as you look up at the ceiling and think until sleep takes you over.

You wake up in the morning to the smell of breakfast cooking. You wash your face, change your clothes into fresh pressed clean clothes, and comb your hair as you walk into the kitchen. Sitting at the table is your Father.

The tall thin man's expression is as it ever is, a mask of cool nonchalance. His green eyes scan the scroll he reads in front of him as you see the dishes from breakfast in the sink. Extra soup is in the pot, and rice in the cooker for you. You don't need to ask if you can eat. You say good morning, he responds back. You get your food and sit down opposite him, give thanks, and begin eating. Thus is as it always has been.

You finish your meal and wash the dishes as he reads. He sips from tea occasionally, and you see his flak jacket hanging on the waiting stand in the hall, his headband there as well, and a long thin sword hanging in its scabbard. Your father, the Bladed Rain. Cold, sharp, deadly, Dad.

As you do the dishes you see a small memento of something that seems alien, a small teacup with a sakura blossom painted onto it. This was your mother, Sacchi's, gift to you when you were accepted into the Academy, before she left your Father. And here you are, stuck with him after four years more.
>>
>>21540571
He breaks the silence, unlike usual. "I hear you graduated since I was last in town. Congratulations." He said, his voice just as cold and flat as it always was. Yet, despite its flatness, it had an edge that sent a chill up your spine. Hearing that voice call your name was fear itself.
>>
>>21540419
Really? This soon? Shouldn't we make some more dosh before going to visit the red light district? In seriousness though, we should probably rest. Losing seven hours out of fear of our father finding a speck of dust means we need to make some serious adjustments in the department of manning the fuck up, but ya gotta know when to rest.
>>
>>21540578
"I'll probably be put on a team soon. I've been spending my time preparing for my first mission."
>>
>>21540578
I did. no squad assignment though. life is still pretty boring
>>
>>21540578
"All that's left is team placement."
Yeah, we definitely gotta get outta here. Dad puts us off something fierce.
>>
>>21540657
>>21540601
>>21540625

Steely silence. You certainly didn't expect more from him. Still, the tiniest flash of cognition in his eyes showed that he heard and understood. However, he heard the word "boring", a word you managed to just barely swallow before saying it. He hated that word, and always found the worst things for you to do when you said you were bored. Today, it appeared, he was in a good mood, as he let it slide.

He rolled up the scroll, perfectly, and tied the string around it closed, moving it aside and opened another one. On the scrolls, you could see and finally understand, were the lessons of an extremely advanced Jutsu. He was scanning over it carefully and your existence seemed to have completely escaped his mind.

It was 7 AM, and you were a little sleepy, but with him in the house you couldn't sleep past this time if you wanted to keep yourself in good shape. Your planning for the day ahead is cut short as a tapping sounds on the window. A small door in the window opens and a small lizard climbs into the room and delivers a scroll to you before leaving. Your Father's forehead vein flickers angrily as he sees the small watery footprints the lizard leaves before you quickly wipe it away and retreat to your room to read your note.
>>
>>21540571
Just whisper 'yes' and try not to cry or be ill. Resist the urge to compulsively start training.
>>
>>21540684
Let's see what this note says. Also, is Daisuke's mother still in the village or has he not seen her at all since she left?
>>
>>21540684

"Daisuke Nakamura, by order of the Amekage, in his greatness, you are to be assigned to Unit VII under the command of Rin Shima. You will be meeting your new squadmates and your sensei at 9 AM today at the front of the Tanaka Industries Corporate Headquarters. Do not be late." The message was short and the meeting place filled you with a bit of bile. This village...had no real pride. It was nothing more than an armored and armed complex for businessmen. You were not fond of businessmen, since they earned much of their wealth through manipulation and slimy deals.
>>
>>21540723
Your mother, since she was not a shinobi, left the village as well. She said the rain made her depressed and she moved to the Land of Rice Paddies, where she works at a clinic as a nurse. However, because you have never been assigned to a mission there, you haven't seen her in years.
>>
>>21540729
Either way, an assignment is an assignment. Show up at the meet immediately and wait for everyone else.
>>
>>21540729
Show up early and spend the time doing some kind of training while we wait.
>>
>>21540729
Go there now, or close enough so you can train while you watch for your team mates and they'll be impressed with how good you are.

Also, when away from father, breath.
>>
>>21540729
show up, bring some snacks to share
>>
>>21540729
Get ready. Let dear old dad know that we are to meet our team and that we're heading to meet them. Then get the fuck out of there and go meet said team. Maybe get there early and pass the time with some light stretching and warm ups...
>>
>nothing more than a.....complex for businessmen
>We don't like businessmen

We Go ShadowRun when?
>>
>>21540799
Always.
Only question, are we pink mohawk, or black trenchcoat?
>>
>>21540822
trenchcoat. How can we be sneaky in a mohawk?
>>
>>21540799
What if we run into business women then?
>>
>>21540774
>>21540748
>>21540761
>>21540757

You tie your headband perfectly as you were taught and arrange your kunai neatly in their holster. You walk out and your Father is waiting for you in the hallway. As you look up at him in a wordless voice he extends his hand without a single word and in his palm is a very clearly custom-made kunai. It was extremely nice, it was heavy, and it must have cost a fair bit of money.

Before you can offer thanks he walks out of the room and into his office, where he closes the door. He must have been having a very good day indeed.

You show up very early and do your push-ups, your sit-ups, all of your physical exercise as you draw kunai and begin practicing with their weight, throwing them into a narrow sign and then pulling them out and doing it again. However, you are a bit reluctant to throw the one your Dad gave you. Something doesn't really make you comfortable using it for just simple target practice.

At 8:56 a beautiful woman appears from one of the back alleys. At least, you figure its a woman from the name. The figure wears a heavy and thick cloak, a mask that you have only seen before in manuals as a mask worn by Black Ops shinobi, and wearing heavy gloves and boots. Her chest is covered by a heavy tactical vest. "I'm surprised to see you here so early. I believe you're Daisuke Nakamura? You're quite the worker. I'm your teacher, Rin Shima." She nods her head to you, to show acceptance you think. In short order the rest of your team shows up. Two other boys.

Rin-sensei clears her throat before starting.

Apparently we have a decker on our squad.
>>
>>21540845
Our squad advisor is black ops? Shit, we really ARE playing ShadowRun!
>>
>>21540884
Someone get the squirt gun.

Yes its cheap, but dammit we are using it
>>
>>21540745
That's a bullshit excuse for leaving your youngest child with a hardened shinobi for a role model. Hunt her down and ask her why she really did it/kill her.
>>
>>21540845

"Welcome, shinobi, to your new team. I am Rin Shima, your sensei and protector. I will give you a chance to introduce yourselves to one another. We'll start in order of age."

The first boy, the tallest and most clearly strong, speaks. He grins in a smile that sends a bolt of lightning down your spine. He has Haru's smile. "I am Hiroshi Fujita! I'm a specialist in Taijutsu and I haven't ever lost a fist fight. Men and women alike are in awe of my great combat prowess! In fact, one time..!" He starts and your sensei smoothly cuts over him, "Thank you, Fujita-san. Next."

The second boy adjusts his glasses as he sighs, "Really, Hiroshi, again?" He sighs and smiles, "I am Masahiro Fujita, Hiroshi's younger cousin." He admits and looks at you, "I'm studying Ninjutsu and Genjutsu, but I don't claim to be a master at anything." Rina nodded and turned to you. "Go ahead."

What do we say? Do we come off...

1) Proud
2) Humble
3) Factual
4) Boastful, of our heritage, or our age.
>>
>>21540904
no u. Our brother already wants us to kill him and we are short on family members
>>

WE.
ARE.
PROFESSIONAL.
AS.
FUCK.
>>
>>21540924
2) Humble
With the way things are at home, I see this being his personality despite how good he is.
>>
>>21540924
3 and 4. Boastfully factual.
>>
>>21540924
>2) Humble
>3) Factual
We don't have any standards to live up to yet, but we have very high expectations of ourselves, so I anticipate us talking ourselves down a lot.
>>21540945
Shimaru was professional. We just don't know any better.
>>
>>21540924
2) Humble
3) Factual
Considering our home life, I can't see it being otherwise.
>>
>>21540972
>Shimaru was professional. We just don't know any better.
I'd phrase it more as "Shimaru was a professional because that's all he head; we are a professional because that's what's been beaten into us".
>>
>>21540924
I say humble and factual, due to our high expectations and constant training

"I'm Daisuke Nakamura. While I don't have any real strengths, I am a very hard worker. I won't let you down, and I won't let the gap in our age be a gap in our skills. I am very honored to work alongside you all." Your words seem to ring very well with Masahiro, who smiles and offers you a welcome. Hiroshi, however, crosses his arms and grins. "That's fine! Welcome to the team, Daisuke-kun! Work hard and you also can be one of my flunkies!" Rin seemed to subdue a chuckle before speaking.

"Alright, and with that, we're a team. So, let's go get to know each other a little better." With that she jumped up and onto a waiting pipeline. The method of travel through the Hidden Rain was negotiating the steam-vents that ran through the village almost everywhere. You had been here for ten years and barely knew 5% of them. Rin, it seemed, knew far more. She took the three of you along, slowing down so you all could catch up. However, to your pride, you took the head of the pack among the three of you Genin.

You emerged in a large empty water tower. "Here we go. We will begin our first challenge together here." She said and with a flick of her cloak she produced three shuriken. "I will throw these all across the village. Whoever finds one first and brings it back to me wins. You are free to fight one another if you think it will give you the edge."
>>
>>21540845
Wait, if we couldn't tell it was a woman why did we refer to it as beautiful?
>>
>>21541040
I hope we have good eyes
>>
>>21541040
Welp. Seems we have the best speed, so let's avoid a fight if we can. Focus on getting a shuriken. Especially since these two might work together if we do fight.
>>
>>21541057
Beutiful mask? Clothing? nails?
>>
>>21541057
>>21541058
>>21541040
(You could tell she was beautiful by the way she carried herself and smelled. She seemed elegant and mature. Her mask also had a rather mysterious womanly quality to it, the image of a bird.)

She opens the top hatch of the water tower and climbed atop it. The three of you looked on as she jumped into the sky a titanic distance and with a snap of her arm threw the shuriken in three different directions. When she landed she looked down at you three and, without much other than a small shrug said, "Go."

Hiroshi immediately tore off, sprinting towards a direction he didn't even know for sure. His brother kneeled and produced a village map and started drawing lines.

How do you want to handle this? There's no way you could guess where the shuriken were without a few miles of variance. You could try running, you are extremely fast after all. At least amongst the three of you.
>>
>>21541088
If we at least caught the vague direction one of the shuriken flew, and we can judge for wind resistance, we can comb the area.
>>
>>21541088
Did we see which direction they went? If so, we could at least come up with some guesses before we run
>>
>>21541088
Jump up to where she was and get an idea on how the wind is blowing at the moment. Use that to judge what direction we should head.
>>
>>21541088
Immediately begin moving. We can do calculations in our head, and if we can't, we can always find a team mate and break their nose and take it from there.
>>
>>21541088
combine our practical and book knowledge to narrow the area (Nin+Tai Know + Kunai training) then rely on our speed to hasten our search.
>>
>>21541088
Did the shuriken have any designs on them?

Cause we could just, you know, buy one
>>
>>21541135
We subsist mostly on hard work, not genius intellect. We need to do some legwork before we start moving.

You can guess the general direction of all three. Hiroshi went off towards shuriken 1. He already has a head-start, and you aren't sure if fighting him would be good. Shuriken 2 and 3 are unclaimed so far. Shuriken 2 is the closest, you think. Masahiro is still calculating.

You stand where your sensei is and jump up as high as you can, though you aren't even at half the distance. Additionally, you can't quite see where she threw it thanks to the wind and rain. When you land she looks up at you doing this and nods, "Good thinking. Not going to work, but good idea." She praises you.

You finally decide to tear off towards where Shuriken 2 was headed.

(You didn't see if they had designs. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Lying would not be a good way to start this off. You can roll Nin+Tai Know to figure out the vague landing point of the shuriken, not accounting for any freak accidents. We have Ninjutsu 4, so 4d10, +3 (2 from our Skill, and 1 from our Ninjutsu Adept Perk) )
>>
>>21541150
we do, but check the character sheet. We've put hard work into learning shit too. We have decent knowledge ranks, we should use them.

(Very nice)

You quickly figure out the path of the shuriken, the angle of the throw, her arm direction, her strength from the jump, and the fact she used no chakra.

After a mere seven minutes of searching you find, hidden between two pipes, a shuriken with the number "3" written on it. This had to be it. Confident, you tear ass back to Rin.

It comes as little surprise to you that Masahiro is still waiting, and behind him is a large lizard with an angry expression. "Give it over, Nakamura-san." The older boy said as his lizard charged towards you, hissing angrily!

(Roll to Defend against the attacking Lizard!)
>>
>>21541239
How much do we roll?
>>

(Since we're outnumbered we're going to roll 4d10+4 (whichever defense we choose to use))

depends on how we defend. We have three skills that can be used for defense, Shinobi Movement, Evasion and Kunai Training. Shin Move and Evasion are the same type of defense except you roll different stats. I suggest using Evasion since it uses Ninjutsu and we seem to have a bonus for using our Ninjutsu stat from our perks.

We have a bonus to using either taijutsu or ninjutsu. Daisuke is a nice generalist and can pretty much do most things decently.

The lizard reaches you and tries to bite your arm. As it gets close you flip backwards away from the lizard and land. Masahiro observes you. "You're very nimble. But if you think you're getting past me, you're a fool." He said and draws a pair of kunai, holding them loosely as he watches you.

(Your turn, what do? Sensei is right behind him at the top of the water tower.)
>>
>>21541337
we're standing on some sort of pipe right? What if we swing under it and approach the tower from another side?
>>

>>
>>21541337
Genjutsu Masahiro. I bet he sucks at genjutsu and having a genjutsu this early should let us hit.
>>
>>21541337
Call out that you have the shuriken. That should count as credit, shouldn't it? If Masahiro wanted to fight for it and claim it for himself, he shouldn't have done so in front of the advisor.
>>
>>21541363
Then do that. Monkey swing directly over him and turn in the shuriken. That's the task, isn't it?
>>
>>21541337
We may as well try to use genjutsu vs him. He's a brainy type so he's planning to use knowledge checks against us I think. Switching up our attacks and defenses seems the best option. If we had Shunshin I'd recommend that but I don't think we'll get past him with just our movement.

Think we should go with this option. Just don't vocalize it. Make it seem like we're going for an attack with a kunai but then toss the shuriken to her.

You rush forward, as if you were running at him. As you see him smile, pulling a wire you didn't notice, and a net jumping out from hiding, you swing to the underside of the pipes and sprint towards your teacher, emerging behind Masahiro. "Damnit!" He calls out as he throws his kunai at you.

You watch them miss as you call out, "Here, sensei!" Your teacher remains motionless as you throw the shuriken at her and she catches it without a bit of effort. "Daisuke wins." She said simply. "Very good job. I'm surprised you thought of throwing it at me to avoid that." She said, pointing at a section of rusty piping that Masahiro had been cutting away at to form a pit-trap.

Hiroshi appears an hour later, still unable to find the shuriken. "The mission was a success. Daisuke's victory earned a victory for all of us. And so, to celebrate, I'll treat you all to dinner tonight. Where would you like to go?"

"I want pork buns!" Hiroshi called out as he gripped his bicep, "Makes me strong!" Masahiro chuckled, "Well...if you insist. Soba noodles wouldn't be bad." her makes faces you. "And you, Daisuke?"

(Barbeque does exist in the universe.)

You fidget awkwardly about before managing to mumble out, "Umm...well, whatever you guys think is best." You manage to smile as they stumble upon a weakness of yours, stating your own desires. Rin shrugs, "Alright, then let's go get some all you can eat." She said and leads you guys through the city, through the redlight distrcit, and finally right on the border of it and the business district she takes you into a massive restaurant.

The walls are covered with pictures of shinobi making the restaurant's trademarked sign of "I did it!", a hand with all fingers extended except for the middle finger. They each have a number written under them. "That's for how many bowls they've eaten." Rin explains as she waits with you all at the table. After scanning around you see her picture, the same mask on her face, though she seems slightly smaller, and under her picture is written...

"46!?!" Hiroshi calls out in surprise. "Sensei!!?!" He said, standing up in his chair. "You ate 46 bowls of food in a single sitting?" She shrugged. "I was younger then." She said. Masahiro looked at her and her apparently thin frame under all that armor. The waitress came, bowed, brought you all your drinks, and your first bowl. "Good luck! And eat happy!" Happy Eats, after all, was the name.

Do we shoot for any records, or just eat our fill?
>>

As you all start eating Rin lifts her mask a little, revealing ruby red lips, as she starts eating quickly and efficiently. You've seen your Father eat the same way. A great many shinobi eat like this, especially those who are often in the field. They can consume a massive amount of food in a short span of time so they aren't vulnerable often. Hiroshi is eating slowly and taking it all in. Masahiro is pecking at his food. You eat until you stop feeling hungry and lean back.

Rin looks at you, "So, Daisuke, how's your Father? I served with him a few times. He's a good soldier, and a very steadfast ally."

"That's good." She said and as she leaned back Hiroshi piped up, "Oh yeah! Nakamura! I recognize that name. You're the Bladed Rain's son, right? Why aren't you a swordsman?" He asked.

Why indeed. Your Dad always had a sword available in the chest for you to use. However, the sword never spoke to you, as it were. You were much more interested in establishing a solid framework for yourself. At this point, you could become anything you want to. Including a swordsman.

Masahiro spoke up, "Also, if I remember correctly, you had a brother. What happened to him?" He asked, genuinely curiously. Before you had to respond, however, Rin spoke up.

"With your first mission done I'm confident that I understand how the three of you operate. I believe that Hiroshi and Masahiro will work well together, no matter what, but who do you think you'll work best with, Daisuke?"

Though you scramble a bit and try to fend the conversation off you eventually say that you can work well with anyone.

"That's a good answer." Rin says approvingly before nodding, "You're a clever kid." She looks over the two brothers and calms them down with a nod. "So, we're currently on Reserve. That means we aren't expecting any missions, nor is there a release date for us to be off Reserve. That's the state of this country. Unfortunately, you may never be given a mission of any real worth. Your stipend, unfortunately, is also suspended on reserve. So let me explain your options." You can hear an edge of bitterness in her voice.

"You can stick it out with me. I will train you when I'm not in service on my own missions. I can keep you sharp and teach you a little bit. However, we have no promise of ever getting any action for you kids. Maybe when you're all in your twenties and the generation above you is all dead and out of options you can serve."

She lifts her mask enough to drink, leaving her lipstick on the glass before pulling her mask down and speaking. "You can enlist for training and service under a company. There's plenty of businesses looking for shinobi to work for them. At all ages. At your age, you'd be trained to be bodyguards to businesswomen as their children, or as assassins." She explained, "They pay excellently. You will get service and plenty of active duty. Finally, you can just quit this shinobi gig and get a job like them." She said with a jab of her thumb to the waitresses and waiters. Hiroshi and Masahiro were very quiet, just sort of taken aback by the venom in her voice.

The three of you leave without another word, Rin paying at the door. The three of you stand outside for a moment as Rin lights a long elegant cigarette holder and holds it between her lips under the mask. "You guys are free to go where you want. Today's lesson is over. Tomorrow we'll do some book studies, so come ready to learn." Hiroshi lets out an audible groan and Masahiro's eyes light up. "We'll meet at the same place we did today. Rin is walking rather slowly, and you could talk to her. She did seem somewhat eager to teach. The Fujita Kyodai are walking away for the day, talking together.

There were a few places you couldn't go to. There's a library for village techniques they don't want kids attempting, as well as the village armory, which is run down and filled with shitty weapons and worse armor.

Rin stops as you run up to her and stop in front of her. "Teach me, please." She lets a bit of smoke out from the border of her mask as she lowers the hood, a shock of blond hair showing as she shakes her head. "You want to learn? Alright, let's go learn then." She said and resumed smoking, keeping her slow pace as you follow.

Eventually the both of you wind up at an artificially lowered area where local kids often played ballgames. "Alright, this will be fine." She said and discarded the cigarette butt. "We'll start with a few things. Your physical shape is good, but you lack real power. Your Father is thin, but he's stronger than a horse." She said, and you wince a little as you remember exactly how strong he is. "Now, I know you do a lot of physical training, I can see it. But you have to tell me the kind of man you want to be. You're a Genin now, and it's time to start deciding your path in life. Tell me the kind of shinobi you want to me."

"I want to be an important person. I want to show my professionalism. I want to keep my skills up always. I want to be someone Haru and Father can respect. I want to make Haru proud." Rin listens to you carefully and nods. "Alright, I can help." She squats in front of you and looks you in the eyes. Through the thin material that covers her eyes you can see her eyes looking into yours, they're blue. "If you are willing to work, I am willing to teach. We'll start with some arms training." She said and drew her kunai, you doing the same. "Hand to hand is an art of inches, it's a game of anticipating your opponent, and then trumping their choice." She said and your training began in earnest.

Night had long fallen by the time the sparks died off from your battles. Rin was standing tall and easy. You were drenched in sweat and exhausted, your muscles sore and bones jarred. She was thin and slight, but she was stronger than your whole body in just one arm. "You're a powerful kid, Daisuke. But you are still a kid. When you become a man you will be incredible. So, let's hasten that dawn with more work. Go home, clean up, and then do muscle training. I want you to come back tomorrow barely able to move." She said and turned. "Good night. You return home and find your Father already gone. He must have had another mission that he had to attend to. You clean up the house religiously again and then head to the closet, pulling out the small sword that was in the closet. This wasn't more than a tanto, not like the chokuto Father carried. Still, you could use this for training.

However, that isn't muscle training. It's good form practice. But muscle training it is not. You put the sword away and start doing the muscle training you can with the weights in the living room closet and do pushups and jumping jacks until you can't stand. You crawl into the shower and then into your bed. Your body screams in pain, but you tell it this is what heaven must be like. You sleep.

The next morning you crawl out of bed and dress up again. You pick up the tanto this time and head to the meeting place. When you get there you actually flop down onto your duff on a bench and wait for your sensei to show up.

Masahiro appears, saying Hiroshi had gone to sleep late and was probably going to be late as well. Then you waited. An hour passes past the time the meeting was arranged before Rin appeared. You smell blood on her boots. "Sorry, I had something I needed to attend to. I have good news. Because of circumstances that recently came to our attention, your squadron is promoted to Active duty as of midnight last night. We are to go to the Grass Country and kill a unit of Genin they have dispatched out for training." She produced a scroll with the letter "D" on it. "Welcome to service. Where is Hiroshi?" She asked, and Masahiro, uncomfortably, had to explain that he was sleeping. She chuckled, a weird sound from her. "Well, in that case he misses out on the pay and the experience. Let's go."

The three of you leave the village for the first time in your life, at least that you can remember. The village has, so often, seemed like a cage rather than a home, but as you move across the trees, finding the lack of metal pipes and towering buildings a little disturbing in their openness, you see Rin's feet picking up in their pace, she seems excited to be out here. "Hiroshi is going to be so mad." Masahiro said with a thin laugh.

You arrive at a large field, a sprawling expanse of plant life that you aren't used to seeing. "Alright, here we have the border between our nation and the Grass Country. So, welcome to your first hostile act." As the three of you cross the line she says, "Congratulations. A whole country of people have the right and desire to kill you now. Let's get to work." Masahiro draws his twin kunai and you reach behind your back, but pause.

(What shall we take to hand? A kunai, Father's Kunai, or the tanto?)

You pull out the kunai your Father gave you. Immediately you can tell it is a quality weapon. It's grip is just a tiny bit too big for you, it's a little uncomfortable. This grip was made for an adult. However, you can use it just fine two-handed or one-handed. You aren't so unskilled as to be thrown by something like this.

You all set off under cover of the Grass and keep low to the ground, Rin's stealth training miles ahead of both of yours. If you're a bull in a tea shop she's a bat in the night. Finally she stops and as you all lower yourselves you can hear the sounds of weapons being thrown, voices, and the voice of an adult male. "I will kill their teacher." The coldness and matter-of-fact nature of her voice puts a chill in you as she stalks forward and you part the grass, just a little, to see what's happening.

The Jonin is throwing shuriken at his students. The children are throwing a shuriken back and he's deflecting it. However, after he throws a barrage and the kids jump away, Rin appears behind him like a vengeful spirit and wraps her arm around his neck, jerking back hard, and thrusts a long kunai through his spine and then carves straight up his back, dropping him to the ground and pulling him into the grass where you hear her knife cut once more, and then silence. The kids return and one of them calls out, "Hey! Sensei!? Where did you go!?" It's a young girl, she's looking around and the other two boys in the company are looking around as well, "Maybe he's gonna ambush us! Let's get ready! Grass Ninja, fighting pose!" The kids strike a silly pose, but those are real weapons. They seem to be having fun.

(How do you want to proceed?)

Target the young girl first with a surprise attack.

You aim at the girl and cock your hands back, throwing a flash of kunai, a blitz attack that would hopefully overcome them.

The kunai burst through the grass, and as the girl turns she tries to block one, but instead catches all of them but a single one, hitting the ground with a cry of pain. She bleeds and doesn't begin moving. The two boys call out, "What the hell!?" Masahiro puts his hands together and leans back, spewing a burst of lightning from his lips that smashes into one of the boys. The lightning rips a hole through his chest and the boy his the ground. The last kid sees this and turns and sprints away. As Masahiro gets ready to charge after him Rin puts her hand on both of your shoulders. "Let him run. You've got one killed, one injured, and the other one escaped." Rin said and looked at the two of you, "The mission was actually to defeat them, but I had a mission on his life. However, you both proved a very important point. We, shinobi, exist only to complete missions. I believe that you have successfully defeated them." Rin kneels and extends her hand, taking off her glove and revealing a slender hand with elegant nails. She removes the kunai and heals the girl, bringing you the knives after she's done healing her. The girl gets up with a start and Rin looks at her. "Your sensei is dead. Your comrades are fled and gone around you." The girl looks up with a pained look, probably from the wounds. She looks over at you and says, "Did you throw those?" You nod. Rin stands up and walks back to you. The girl gets up and says, "Wait...my family is gone and dead. And without a sensei...I can't be a ninja anymore. So please, let me come with you!" Rin pauses and looks over her shoulder, "You know you're trying to do the nearly impossible." The girl looks at you and Masahiro, "Please! Let me come with you! I have to be a ninja, please."

When asked, she answers. "I have to become a ninja because I promised my Mom, on her deathbed, that I would become a strong ninja and never become a victim. I just need a place to grow strong. You are stronger than anyone I've ever met before. Please, let me come with you." Rin paused at her words and seeing your eyes giving her a look of asking as she shrugged. "Alright, you're a prisoner of war. Disarm yourself and offer your wrists, we're going to tie you." She threw her kunai, shuriken, and explosive tags away in a flash of motion before offering her wrists. Rin tied her up quickly and then struck the back of her neck quickly, knocking her out. "Daisuke, carry her."

You carry the girl around back to the village. Once inside the village borders Rin takes her and puts the girl on her shoulder. "We'll meet again tomorrow. I'm taking her to HQ." And with that Rin vanishes. Masahiro lets out a whistle, "Jeez....I...killed someone." He nods and thanks you before stumbling along to his house. You now have all the free time in the world. Strangely, you don't seem to feel much other than a sense of redemption. You thought you killed someone, and it sat unpleasantly with you, but you saved her. And she seemed thankful. You also got to help someone's dream continue. You can't help but wonder what that Jonin's dream was before Rin gutted him like a fish. That thought goes away pretty quickly as you compulsively go back to training and spend the day doing that, then go home and reclean the entire house.

After a shower, and a drying of every square of the bathroom tile you stepped on, you are left feeling strangely sick. Maybe you didn't eat very well today, that must be it. You could call it an early night, or get ready for the next few days, which you have a feeling will be pretty intense.

You struggle out of your bed, which you only laid down to take a brief rest in, before you head to the weight room and start to lift. You grip the metal and start lifting, and surprisingly it feels better. However, a strange memory comes to mind.

The blood, that girl's blood, it hit your face as she hit the ground, and it touched you again as Rin gave you the knife back. The thought of it is making your whole body uncomfortably hot, and your heart starts racing. You feel your stomach twist and, in shock, you hit the ground, your stomach voiding itself as you grip at the mat. I'm going to have to buy a new mat....is the only thought on your mind as you hit the ground and black out.

Your consciousness returns and you are standing in the bathroom, chest heaving. You see your clothes on the floor behind you and feel the water on your back. You glance down and see it pooling around your claws and you turn it off without a second thought. You feel much better now, you say. Shuffling out of the bathroom, not even looking at the mirror you turn the lights off and head to your room.

You stretch, the sound of your growl filling the house as you settle down on your bed and snap your jaws slightly, feeling much better about this whole affair now that you've vomited and showered. Sure, you'll need to buy a new mat, but that should be fine with your stipend. You calm your tail down and curl up tightly, the scales of your arms providing a restful peace as you see the red of the sunrise. You close the blinds without a second though. Just a bit of rest, you say. Just a little bit. The smell of blood rises to your nose, calming you, as you fall asleep.

Quickly you hop into some clothes, throw out the old mat, put on your headband and jump off into the freshness of a surprisingly rain-free day! Today is a great day for training, and for life!

As you come back into your house and put the mat, an exact copy of the old one, in its place, you look around. What exactly did we do last night...it's hard to remember. You think back on the night and as you remember your passing out you hit your knees and grip your head. This is the worst headache you could possibly imagine. You growl in pain and force yourself to remember.

~~~~A veil in your mind parts as you glance back~~~
You regained consciousness shortly after vomiting. Standing up was hard, but you looked down at your hands and feet and saw your fingers had burst into long gray knobbled scaled claws. The sight panicked you and you tried to run away, but tripped on your tail. The tail forced itself out of your pants, which you took off, and you found your entire lower half covered in armored scales. Your upper body threatens to rip your shirt so you escape it as well and your hair falls away as your jaw lengthens into a maw of a reptile. At this point your conscious memory ended. You only see...
You race through the city, moving faster than you ever have. You bound on all fours, a strange mix of lizard and crocodile as you charge across the rainy city. You arrive at the roof of the Amekage's office, guarded constantly by ANBU. One of them appears and draws a weapon. They say something, but you don't hear it. You lunge forward and they slice through your hide with a lightning-charged blade. The pain is excruciating, but the wound patches quickly as you snap at his leg, dragging him to the ground. You're about to kill him before a heavy blade stabs your maw, forcing you to back up.
>>
>>21543865
There is a man standing there with blond hair, a cloak, and a massive rebreather. Even through your madness you recognize him. Hanzo. You know a deadly foe. He raises his weapon to strike, but the lightning pierces the sky and in its shadow you vanish at top speed. You know he could find you...but he lets you go. However, you're tired and in pain, and you struggle back to your house. You stand up, enter the shower, and shower...the warmth, the water, it returns your mind again...and then you remember the rest of your night....
~~~~~~~The veil closes on your memory~~~~~~

You gasp in a cold sweat. You almost attacked Hanzo of the Salamander...you almost attacked an ANBU agent. They may know. They may be coming for you. Who knows who followed you. Yet, somehow, you feel safe. You were so fast, so sneaky, and took routes you couldn't even remember. There's no way anyone tracked you back here.

I doubt this is only a one-time thing, or something we can conceal for long.
>>
She's also at risk to if the girls blood had anything to do with it.

EVERYTHING. And hug her, and act all "wah I need a mom"-ish

You tell her everything that happened. Your transformation, your attacking the guard, your almost attacking Hanzo. When you finish the story, ending with how good you feel about all of it she nods. "I'm glad you came clean, Daisuke. I was sent here with orders from Hanzo himself that if you didn't reveal what happened I was to put you to death. As it stands, however, he wants me to take you out of the village and train you personally. You have a rare Kekkei Genkai, called the Gyakusatsu no Chi, the Massacre's Blood. The village thought all members of that bloodline were dead and accounted for, but apparently not." She said and looked at you, kneeling in front of you. "It's vital, Daisuke, you tell no one about this. Especially not your Father. I will gather the needed paperwork, we will be leaving tomorrow." She says and pats your shoulder, "Sorry, Daisuke, I know you may have wanted a more normal life, but you just became a vital asset to the village. Hope you can stomach it."

(And with that, we're calling it a night's work! I'm gonna archive this and we'll be back Wednesday night with our next chapter! FNG3 Quest will be run Wednesday, Friday, and Sundays, so stay tuned! Thanks for playing, and through-out the week please feel free to drop by the IRC for chatting with me or some of the dev team if you have any questions or you just want to hang out! Until next time, good night!)

(This is a lot cooler than I thought some naruto quest thing would be. But I don't know how I feel about our Kekkei Genkai. I kind of expected us to be a NORMAL ninja, who does great. But this is p cool too.

And you guys were so paranoid that girl we saved caused it. Wonder what happened to her in the end.
>>

Yeah the Kg thing was a surprise, but being the Lizard isn't exactly a deal killer for me. Glad to see the shadow run elements are still present in FNG though.
>>
>>21544097
I still think she is going to grow up to be a monster
>>
>>21544063
This ain't your tv Naruto questing. Go read the old archives of FNG1 is ya wanna see how different it can get. We've come a long way since there though system wise.
>>
>>21544097
I think most of us were joking about that.
>>
>>21544097
Eh, technically she did.
Or rather, her blood did.
...Makes me wonder why it never happened before.
Just how soft is this village if Daisuke was never exposed to blood before?

I really should, I stumbled upon this tonight. I think I have a new favorite quest thread.
>>
>>21544166
I still do that now and then. Just did it recently actually.
>>
>>21544166
Yep and that one had the best art so far I think. I hope more drawfriends join me in this one. I'll try and have something done for Daisuke by Wednesday, to keep with the Tradition.
>>
Where can I read the other quests?
>>
>>21544243
