You are Anon, currently in some nerd-oriented neighborhood in Japan. A full-grown man just did a forward flip and landed a kick on your face.

This is such unbelievable bullshit.

>previous threads here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Street%20Fighter

You came to Japan to battle a man known only as The Otaku, Japan's entrant to the World Warrior tournament. As per his request you're fighting in the middle of the street in Akihabara, throngs of bystanders and the ever-present cameras in the distance. The Otaku himself wasn't as bad as you feared - no crazy costume. A red jacket and a scarf, but you were kinda afraid he'd be wearing a helmet or something. After pointing at you and lecturing for a full minute in Japanese he yelled what may have been RIDER KICK. Then that flip happened.

>What's our fight plan?
>>
Much as I love Rider kicks (you have no idea how), I am perfectly aware that they're stupid and easily predictable moves. So, whenever he goes for it, we grab him midair and slam him down hard. Doesn't even need to be a proper catch and throw, just stepping out of the way and smashing him down will suffice.
>>
>>21550359
I was wondering where this was today. He probably doesn't speak English if he was ranting at us in Japanese, so talking with him is out of the question. We'll have to communicate with him via the ancient language of beating-him-with-sticks.
Also, Riders are at their weakest when you shrug off or otherwise nullify their signature moves. Keep that in mind.
>>
>>21550404
Isn't the whole thing about Rider kicks their speed? It's better to sidestep and use his own momentum against him by slamming him with our heavy sticks.
>>
>>21550426

A sorcerer tried keeping me from my true calling, writing quest threads on /tg/. The wizard battle took longer than I expected it to.

Actually I just wasn't sure if I'd have the chance to run it today. As it stands this might be the first battle to be turned into a two-parter.

I'm so very tempted to blow a few of our guaranteed 20s to destroy this guy in like a minute. I love Kamen Rider, but those shows just don't teach you how to fight. They teach you how to flail around, pose and look cool, and well...we have Saikyoryu for that, don't we?

True, but we need to give these people a show.

You stumble back, raising your sticks into a defensive stance. Next time you fight someone who doesn't speak english you need to make sure there's a signal for when the fight starts.

The Otaku begins an all-out assault. His moves are ridiculously telegraphed - wide, powerful strikes, deliberate kicks, single movements without any consideration for set-ups or combinations. It's almost a joke. It would be a complete joke if he wasn't so fucking fast.

You step back as quickly a you can, sticks flying, striking at available targets. His fist, his arms, his shoulders, even the occasional stray shot at his head. His strikes power through your attempts to parry like paper, striking so fast the eye almost can't follow. He strikes a pose after one of these flurries and shouts something in Japanese. The crowd goes wild. You breathe hard, trying to take in enough air into your burning lungs.

>try to take the initiative! strike!
>wait for him to start a chain of attacks, use sidestepping footwork from eskrima, see if there's a chance to strike him from an angle he doesn't expect

Strike, is style is all offense. We should have the upper hand if we steal the initiative.
>>
>>21550570
>try to take the initiative! strike!

He's going to be acting according to a set group of moves. It's only a matter of spotting a pattern and exploiting it.
>>
>>21550570
He's in hero-mode at the moment, nothing short of a crack between the eyes is going to slow him down. That said, are we anywhere near nerdy enough to recognize the pose and determine what kind of attack he's about to do? Should we roll a lore check for Kamen Rider knowledge?
>>
>>21550570
>try to take the initiative! strike!

The one enemy we can't talk into defeat.
>>
>>21550570
diplomance would be hilarious, but i think we need to take the initiative. STRIKE!
>>
>>21550570
Raise a false flag for a hero comeback.

Attack a weak flurry of attacks and shout "You will never survive this!"

After he stumbles back to his feet, we act all surprised. Then he does his super attack and we give him a gentlemans reply with our full power.

In retrospect doing this as a daily was kind of grueling. We're in the endgame to conclude the first run of Street Fighter Quest, though, I'd like to finish it out the way it's been running. The next quest thread I run (there's gonna be a break between SFQ and SFQ Turbo Edition) will probably be a slower schedule. Maybe another genre. I was planning on putting the next quest up to community discussion/vote after the last battle of SFQ, assuming the audience would be willing to come along.

That's all beside the point! Gentlemen, roll 1d20 for a lore check!

You throw everything into this strike, the wide golf-style swing connecting straight into his chin so hard the sticks break.

He's knocked back a step. He rubs his chin and steps forward, placing a hand on your shoulder. He starts saying something else in Japanese you can't understand. You get the vague impression that if you could, it would be something about TV. The crowd of assembled nerds is nodding sagely.

"I don't speak Japanese," you say.

He responds to that in Japanese.

You place your hand on his shoulder. The Otaku nods and smiles. You smile and nod back.

Then you drop the hand to his waist and grab the hand on your shoulder. His eyes barely begin to widen.

"Sega Saturn, SHIRO!" you shout as you throw him. The crowd gasps as one, then bursts into wild applause.

I realize we mostly took it for laughs, but seriously, Judo has a good ground game. We must've learned SOME of that. Even Segata did chokes and jointlocks before he unlocked Exploding Throw (double).

Though we could concievably take the mount AND use the backup sticks to play him like a drum, we're probably better off saving them for now.

Real talk: the Japanese police held a tournament a long time ago to determine what their official style would be. Judo, aikido, muay thai, karate, and a bunch of other styles competed to see which was most efficient and capable.
Judo won in a landslide.

You decide to take this to the ground. You raise an elbow and wait for The Otaku to do that thing where you kick yourself off the ground - whatever it's called. As he brings his knees back you begin to fall.

The elbow lands right on his solar plexus while he's in mid-air. It's actually pretty awesome.

The pair of you fall to the ground in kind of a tangle. The Otaku tries rolling away, you scramble after him. You manage to grab an arm and try to apply a basic armbar to it. The Otaku grits his teeth and flexes, trying to leverage his monstrous strength to escape. He slowly begins rising to his feet, forcing you up with him.

It takes all of your power, but you slowly force him into a stalemate. He's still rising, though, forcing you up with him. Maybe you should try disorienting him.

"Hey. Hey!" you say. "Power Rangers sucks!"

He understands that, at least. He tries throwing a punch with his free arm across his chest. It misses, but distracted him long enough for you to lock the armbar. You force him to his knees.

"Tap out!" you yell.

The Otaku grits his teeth and tries to stand, struggling in vain against your hold. After a few fruitless seconds he sags, seemingly defeated.

Then he throws his hand out diagonally. You jerk away a bit, but it seems that wasn't a strike.

You don't know much about this Rider stuff, but you recognize the Henshin thing from Viewtiful Joe. Something's going to go down. You let go of the arm and step back.

A burst of chi erupts around The Otaku, obscuring him from vision. You're starting to wonder if everyone knows how to do a Raging Storm but you. As the light fades you can see him finishing tying a mask over his face. Not a proper helmet or a metal one, more akin to a Rider mask silkscreened onto a luchador mask.

It's kinda cool. Him getting caught putting it on himself isn't, though. He notices you noticing him and freezes. Ten, maybe twenty seconds pass as you two simply stare at each other.

To break the awkwardness you reach into your pocket and produce your bowtie. Your eyes still locked on one another, he finishes tying the mask as your fingers work their way through the knot. As you both finish he gives you a grateful nod.

You produce your backup sticks - the collapsible ones - from an inner pocket. You raise your sticks into a ready stance as The Otaku raises his fists. His defense is full of holes, his hands make little to no sense for striking. You still have a bad feeling about this.

You are Ellie, Kyokugen fighter. You're in a booth at King's Court watching the World Warrior match with your teammates Belle and Moira.

"That was just sad," Belle says.

"Is the World Warrior tournament always this bizarre?" Moira asks. "I remember it mostly being actual fighting back when I was young."

"I mean, there's always been a goofy streak," Belle says. "But something about this year is just off. That hatchet clown, this guy, the hug-off, all of it's kinda too weird."

"Tell me I didn't look that stupid when I unmasked when I fought Anon," you say.

"Nah," Belle says. "The dynamic is different. You can start masked and dramatically unmask, that's fine. It's when you try to dramatically mask that it just doesn't work at all."

"It also might have gone better if Anon had known who you were," Moira says. "At the time it was like 'Oh, it's her. This girl I've never seen. Oh no!'"

"I get it, I get it," you say.

The fight goes to commercial just as Anon and The Otaku get into a ready stance, ready to start fighting again. The crowd boos.

"Well, you could always use your part of our winnings to pay for school," you say.

"No, my winnings still have to go to the orphanage," she says. "This is kinda making me rethink the whole deal though. I mostly got into the nun thing because I thought it'd be an easy job and that the habits looked cool."

"I like the habit look," Belle says.

"Anyway, maybe it's time to rethink it. It's not like I took any vows or anything," she says. "I'd have to find somewhere new to live, though."

Belle grins like the cheshire cat.

"You can crash at the dojo for a bit," you say. "If you give up the nun thing. I guess."

"Aw, I appreciate it!" Moira says. She wraps you up in a spontaneous and grateful hug. Belle grins and gives you a thumbs up, smiling even wider. That girl will never stop confusing you.

That's it for the main quest today. I'll try to continue it this evening if possible, otherwise we'll be back tomorrow for the finale of Anon vs The Otaku.

break for tea, then we get cracking on breaking the rest of the cast.
>>
>>21553151
well moira is already a sadist. how would we break ellie or anon?
>>
>>21553417
I wouldn't say Moira is a sadist. People only get hurt when she counters. If the nuns didn't fight no one would have gotten hurt.
>>
>>21553417

The real question is how to break Boss Honda. More than he already is, at least.
>>
>>21555578
Sir Honda is the perfect paladin

you can't break him

You are Anon.

You finish tying the perfect knot in your bowtie. Your sticks are ready.

The monstrously fast, monstrously strong and delusionally weird Otaku is charging in with an obvious right straight. It's like he's never even heard of feinting.

>Meet him head on.
>Sidestep, let him charge past and attack from the side.
>Move straight back, stay just out of his reach, attack when he throws the punch and overextends.

Yeah, I think so. I mean, I'm still up, but one man does not a good quest make.

No worries, we'll just pick up where we left off tomorrow.

Incidentally, this is my favourite Quest of all time, and I love everyone involved in it to bits. And all the characters.

Seriously, if it were up to me, you would be writing for Capcom and shit. It is that good.

It's the most straightforward answer.

If you're still here, dude, i'd love to keep playing. Naturally, i hit the restroom just when you need some support on the rerun.

Quest's done for the evening, but we'll be back around the usual time tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks! It's hard to get a real sense of how people are reacting to the quest sometimes, it always means a lot to hear that people are enjoying it.

We can probably keep this thread up, but it might fall off if unattended to. Up to you what you wanna do with this thread.
>>
>>21557145
Best to let it go for the night, IMO. That way we can finish it with the usual crew. Whoever you are, you're alright guys. Only quest worth the time in /tg/, thanks to you and, of course, SFM, you crazy, crazy person.
