You are Anon, a street fighter.

On a ridiculously hot day in Tokyo you find yourself battling The Otaku, a grown man who learned to fight from Kamen Rider. Problem is he's so fast and strong he makes up for his style being a joke.

The fight has been going on for longer than any of your previous matches ever had. He's clumsy but tough - no matter how you wail on him he seems to keep coming, and he's so fast you can't avoid every strike. A bit of blood trickles down your sticks - seems you cut something open on your palm from gripping them so tightly while hitting this guy over and over.

What's the plan?

Astonishing Literal Street Fighter Quest will run after this one has ended. And obviously the first target is going to be that section of 4th Avenue with a pothole that screwed up my car.
>>
My only problem with this quest is how much of a waifu-chasing bitch the main character is. Not your fault OP, the players are just awful. Never talks smack to his opponents and always acts like a gentleman to every fucking girl that crosses his path.
>>
Wait for him to overextend a punch, sidestep, and Gentleman's Reply him right in the chin. Hopefully that'll at least disorient him a bit.

Also, I can't help but think of this song every time I see this quest:

The Otaku charges in, fists and feet flying. He seems to yell things in Japanese a lot. Probably move names, you think to yourself, parrying one of the punches as you step back. Or possibly a rant about the nature of justice? Either way it would probably help if you spoke Japanese at all.

To keep it streamlined/simple let's assume d10s. The Otaku is fast and strong but clumsy and easy to read, meaning he'll need to hit a target number of 7 out of 10 to actually hit anything. Whatever he manages to roll above that, then the players will roll the three assigned defensive dice against a TN. I know this is kind of a huge bastardization of the system but it might be fun? LET'S GO, OTAKU.

You can see this guy's already unconscious on his feet. You turn and telescope the sticks back down. Un-telescope? You're not sure if there's a word for it. In any case, you collapse them back down and sheath them dramatically. Just to be safe you buy yourself another few seconds by dramatically straightening the bowtie. That should be long enough.

"Hey, you alright?" you ask. You reach out to shake him as gently as you can.

His eyes snap open instantly. He blinks a few times, confused, then turns to face the crowd, arms raised triumphantly. "Yatta!" he shouts. When he sees the crowd's complete lack of reaction he tries it again, confused. Eventually one of the closer nerds explains something to him in Japanese. The Otaku's arms slowly fall as the other man speaks - miming out what you assume to be the fight. It all ends with The Otaku screaming something to the skies and running away. You think he might have been crying into his jacket sleeve.

"That...happened," you say, turning to the camera crew. "I still won, right?"

You are Ellie, Kyokugen fighter and King of Fighters participant. After a long night of watching your friend Anon battle in the World Warrior tournament you find yourself ringside for the next King of Fighters match at a depressingly early time of the morning.

"Seriously, how does this happen?" you ask Moira. "Who's even awake to watch people fight this early?"

"There's...a bit of a crowd," Moira says. Maybe a few dozen people, tops. "I guess this one is going to be taped and then run later."

"Bluh," you say. At least Belle is returning from the Judge's table with some news.

"Good news and bad," she says. "Good news, we never have to be here this early again. Bad news, the lineup isn't really favorable to us this time."

"Yeah?" you ask.

"Two grapplers. None of us really have grappling experience, so it's going to be a coin toss to see if we take them out before they take us to the ground."

"What's the third guy?" Moira asks.

"Some sort of mystic. Wears a turban, despite having a Jersey accent."

"Huh," you say. "Okay, what order do we want to go in this time?"
>>
>>21567698
Ellie, Belle, Moira? Moira took out most of the enemy team last time and Belle got the finish with Anon, Ellie should get the first go this time around. Speaking of, who's the striker this time?
>>
>>21567745

No Striker for this match. KoF matches vary a few of the rules at random for matches, largely based on mechanics from various points in the KoF series (though the only two I can think of right now are striker/no striker and allowing/disallowing tagging another fighter in.)
>>
>>21567793
Maybe that could be spiced up a bit? Usually it's tag team matches with elimination rules, that is, people take turns fighting and you have to beat up the whole team to win. What about doing, say, everyone fights at the same time and there's a designated team captain. If that person gets knocked out, that team loses instantly.

Or stuff like that, I can imagine KoF experimenting with different match styles while SF stays more or less the same throughout the years.
>>
>>21567745

That lineup looks good to me.

"I'll go first," you say. Belle and Moira are a little more specialized, whereas your special move of punching things in the face a ridiculous number of times fits most scenarios.

"Just, be careful," Belle says. "This one's looking kinda weird."

As you step into the ring, your first opponent lumbers in. He looks fit, but he's moving strangely. A little jerky. Behind him you see a turbaned man and another musclebound bruiser.

"Stepping into the ring, it's the...oh god, it's too early for this," the announcer says. He starts rubbing his face with his hand. "Look, I'll dub in something cool when we rerun this later. Just...just fight, guys. This corner's Ellie, this corner's Cruz. Punch each other. I'm going to lay down and cry."

Maybe the announcer's been working a little too hard.

Like hell you're gonna sit around and wait to get grappled by some musclebound monster. You rush in as soon as the bell rings, fists flying. You manage to hit him with four or five solid punches to the face before he can react - not even defending, just a clumsy attempt to grab you. You slip the grab easily, throwing another four or five punches into his ribs.

Something feels wrong. You've punched a lot of people in the ribs over the years, a lot more people in general. You're in tune with your fists. What you felt there wasn't rib, just...muscle. Slabs of muscle without bone, like a steak. You punch the ribs a few more times just to be sure. Nothing. You hop backwards out of range.

By the sidelines, the man in the turban starts laughing a wheezing, creaky laugh.

This is getting weird. You try another series of punches, hoping for a sense of what's going on in your opponent's body. By punching it. When all you have is a hammer and all that noise.

Punches to the chest are just more meat. The face is soft, but still bonelike. Cartilage, maybe? You wind up a right powerful enough to shatter bricks and unleash it straight into the muscleman's face.

His neck flops backward at a horrifying angle. Straight back, no support. You stop, suddenly cold with fear. The entire crowd (what little of it there is) gasps. "MEDIC! MEDIC MEDIC MEDIC!" the announcer screams.

The muscled-up beast reaches out again. Grabs you this time. As he lifts you over his head for some sort of broken-necked German Suplex the old man starts laughing even harder, so hard he sounds like he's choking.

That's just a cartoony artist rendition of the twelve Dolls, Dictator's personal bodyguards, enforcers and troubleshooters. They were led by Cammy the Killer Bee, his right hand (not counting Boxer, Claw and Sagat when they were still together). Since this is after the liquidation of Shadoloo, it's hard to say how the girls are doing now. As I understood it, Dictator's brainwashing with Psycho Power was so severe that if they were ever cut off, they'd likely die or become a vegetable. Either that, or they're living decent lives now.

You kick your weight forward into the motion instead of trying to fight it. This lets you overshoot the intended throw - which would have dropped you on your head - and instead awkwardly fall onto your back. It hurts, but it doesn't kill you. So that's something.

The boneless man comes to his feet as you're coming to yours. The man in the turban stands from his seat and raises his hands. Says something in a language you don't recognize, holding his hands out like he's Emperor Palpatine or something. The boneless man twitches and spasms, then his head shoots back up.

"Yeeeeah! Get 'er!" he shouts, Jersey accent in full effect.

You have no idea if this is legal or not anymore. In any case, it looks like it's time to abandon set-up strikes or combos, this thing won't even notice them. You change your stance a little, giving yourself more grounded footwork as you pull your right fist back. The giant lumbers toward you, arms stretched out.

Your fist bursts through his chest, tearing through the thin veneer of skin and muscle straight into whatever counts for its muscly heart.

This is the grossest thing that has ever happened.

As you pull your hand out the...thing, whatever it is, begins to scream. It erupts in a burst of chi, flaring bright white as it burns away into nothingness.

"Welp, that's why I summoned two of 'em," the man in the turban says. "Jagen, get up there."

A second muscle monster leaps from the sidelines straight into the ring. That's...quite a jump. It steps into a clumsy martial arts stance. Behind the back of the creature you can see the man in the turban flipping through a Teach Yourself Tae Kwon Do book. So it looks like he's controlling these things somehow?

When we will work out tag moves?

>>
>>21568938
I'm not quite sure the official King of Fighters rules permits tag moves like that. That's gotta be illegal somewhere.

>>
>>21568938
Probably falls under striker rules if you're doing it like that.
>>
You consider tagging in a teammate. If this thing turns out to be a proper striker Moira might make sense, but if this one also lacks bones then her counter techniques would probably be useless. Best to see if this one has the same weakness.

You wait for the awkward creature to throw a really, really terrible roundhouse kick your way before unleashing another powerful punch straight for its midsection. You hit it solidly - the thing actually moves a few inches on the mat - but not enough to pierce this time. The abs on this one are just positively unreal.

"You like them abs?" the man on the sidelines says. "I summoned this one to have the sickest freakin' abs anyone ever saw. You ain't gettin' by those."

The homunculus throws an awkward kick at you. The form is terrible and it's slow as hell, but the surprise of it moves you back. The man in the turban is laughing even harder now.

"Hyeeh heh heh heh! You better call a vet, sweetheart, cause them puppies are sick!"

You hate this SO MUCH.

You slip under the kick and punch him in the side as hard as you can with a roundhouse. Just enough to spin him a bit and expose his back to you. Wasting no time you leap onto his back, holding on for dear life as he awkwardly tries to throw you. Determined, you dig your heels into his sides and climb. Climb until you're high enough on his back to have a good shot straight down.

Your fist shatters whatever counts for this monster's skull.

"Mister Wendal to the stage," the announcer says. The man in the turban - Mr Wendal, apparently - is standing still, terror in his eyes.

You rise from the ashes of whatever the hell that thing was. You're a bit scorched - probably going to replace everything you're wearing - but unhurt. You're going to have to thank your dad for buying you this stuff.

You step forward and slap the huge turban off of his head.

"I-I just..." he starts. You clench your fist in his face to silence him, then point out of the arena. Tears actually start to well up in his eyes a bit.

"B-but I..."

You shake your head and point again.

Mr Wendal quietly shuffles to the side of the ring and climbs out, shoulders slumped.

"That's it for this round!" the announcer says. "I just finished throwing up, as I think about half the audience did. Anyone in the audience who wants to get a drink after that, I'll be at the bar in the lobby. I know how early it is, Dale, shut up."

"How was that?" you ask your teammates as you climb out of the ring.

"I hated that. I hated every second of that," Moira says.

"You really missed a golden opportunity," Belle says. "Just think it over real fast."

"What, to punch a monster's heart out? I think I can cross that off the bucket list," you say.

"No, to shout KALI MA when you tore the monster's heart out," she says.

"...fuck!" you shout. It seems so obvious in retrospect.

That's the rough plan. Wrap up subplots and battle Erich, then Street Fighter Quest will end. I'll probably write something else in the meantime, though. I'll either throw out some ideas to the community and see what you guys would like, or maybe just see if anyone's got a setting that they'd like to see a quest thread out of that I could do something interesting in. I half want to do one in the Assassin's Creed universe for a Templar who never manages to interact with important figures, make major changes or do anything really important, he's just some unlucky SOB who gets terrible jobs and has to worry about people sucker-stabbing him from rooftops. And there was the Infinicon thread awhile back where some people came up with the idea to focus more on the seedy underworld of a fundamentally broken city that's an eternal convention, that's an idea that has legs. Or hell, any of the dozens of /tg/ settings that have a setting but not a lot of content, I could take a stab at one of those, maybe. In any case, it'll be decided after SFQ finishes its first run.

Sage for doublepost and rambling to myself.

Tank Police. Rolling to hit would only determine if you hit your mark, or blew up the building next to your mark, causing it to collapse ontop of your perp. It would work well with your style, though you'd have to play a bit fast and loose with the timeline, since the anime had us at 2012 with a bacterial cloud overhead we'd already adapted to, while the mangas had it sometime in the early 2100's and everyone still got deathly ill just by taking a lungfull of outside air.

"Friend-kun and Shy-chan's Outlandish Journey"

Welp. I'll stick to hoping you run one, thank you very much.
>>
>>21570636

Sorry man, I could have sworn I saw another one. If I were to go in a JJBA direction I'd probably be more likely to run it in the Persona universe with a JJBA-styled FABULOUS protagonist. I'm more familiar with the Persona 3 and 4 universe (I might have played Persona 4 at least three times DON'T JUDGE ME I HAD TO DATE NAOTO), the Persona/Stand angle might be worth exploring and I've been wanting to run a quest focused more on exploration and character interaction. And I've literally only read a single chapter of JJBA, I wouldn't feel comfortable trying until I've read a lot more.
>>
>>21570910
I can't recommend the manga enough. I honestly can't. The anime adaptation has been REALLY good thus far, as well, and I hope it runs for ALL THE MANGA ALL OF IT.

But seriously, anything in the general style of JoJo's cool. That kind of controlled, methodical bizarreness mixed with ball-shattering action and FABULOUSness is too good to pass up, even if it's not the setting itself.
>>
>>21566235
Its possible but completely different universes. Vampires(more like Gaki) created from wearing ancient mayan masks crafted from alien material compared to the Persona 3-4 universe is a bit stretch
