After a week long hiatus, the party returned to the Caverns, where they found their way to Rogahn's trophy room, where they found a magic spear created by barbarians and took the hides of a bear and a dragon. Then, they found their way down to the next level past a nest of stirges, and discovered a room filled with magical pools

Don't forget Haley!
>>
>>21596111
Sounds good to me.
>>
Okay, any preparations you want to take before going into the cavern?
>>
>>21596185
H.

I'd like to pick up 14 small pebbles and an ordinary stick on the way to the caverns.
>>
>>21596219
You easily find these mundane items.

Also, I've finished the first level of the dungeon I'm making. Pretty soon I'll lay out the hook for it.
>>
>>21596185
I'm buying a war hammer for smashing reasons, and donating the books I got from Quasqueton to Mistamere library, if it exists.
>>
>>21596259
You can now smash things with both hands.

Fig', do you have the map as made by the party so far?
Where do you guys want to go within the dungeon? What route do you take? What's your light source?
>>
>>21596259
You need to fill a bookcase of your own with them, so you can have a magic user create a static image of you in front of them "Alvaro, Cleric of God. Curses removed, evil smitten."
>>21596247
Sweet. I'm for going back to the magic pool room. It's time for science.

I'll have my lantern lit, as usual.
>>21596292
This sounds good, both of them as I wanted to fill an empty flask with the magic water anyway. Hm... Does remind me. Hey DM, what supplies would be needed for a character to make a book?
>>
>>21596292
Okay. You easily make your way to the pool room. As seen in your map, you have found a secret door out of there.

Going vaguely from southwest to northeast with starred ones being magic,
Pool of strange pinkish liquid *
Pool of clear fizzing liquid*
Pool of murky grey viscious liquid*
Pool of green slime
Pool of clear liquid
Pool of deep red liquid*
Empty pool
Pool of clear boiling liquid*
Pool of shimmering liquid*
Pool of greenish liquid*
Pool of koi carp
Pool of steaming white rock
Pool of water with gold coins beneath*
Pool of a small puddle of water*

Ah, was confused as to what pool room we were talking about.
>>
>>21596350
It says a blank book is 15gp.
>>
>>21596361
Time for science!

I'd like to drop one pebble in each of the pools, one by one, and see what happens for about a minute each time.
"Alvaro, Oi gonna put a rock in each one of 'ese. Ye wanna 'elp, Oi'll give ye seven stones an' ye kin start from the other soide. Maybe even see wot 'ey smell loike."
>>
>>21596384
Cheaper than I thought, although that isn't factoring in ink costs. Alvaro's Guide to Dark Dungeons is a go!
>>21596421
"Sure. Hopefully no slimes this time." Alvaro remarked, aiding Fig in his dangerous delving in science.
>>
Rolled 1

>>21596421
Pool of strange pinkish liquid: No effect. There's something familiar about its smell
Pool of clear fizzing liquid: The stone begins to fizz strongly, and slowly disappears. The pool has a horrible acrid smell
Pool of murky grey viscious liquid: No effect. The pool smells disgusting
Pool of koi carp: The carp seem startled by the rock
Pool of steaming white rock: The stone bounces off the white rock
Pool of water with gold coins beneath: As soon as the stone touches the water, the coins disappear. They return as the water settles
Pool of a small puddle of water: No effect
Pool of green slime: As soon as you drop the stone on it, the green slime comes to life, attacking you! Roll for initiative
>>
>>21596560
Oh, and the area around the white rock and its steam seem very cold

Alvaro passes out torches to his retainers, and lights them. "Another slime, joyous day."

Figgy gets +3 total with his spear.
Haley sets her lamp down and chucks a stone.

>>21596651
Alvaro and party chucks the lit torches at the slime. "Not sure if anything but fire will affect this things..."
>>
>>21596653
Slimes apparently cannot dodge, so everyone hits automatically. Alvaro, Ileen and Brandon do 1d6 damage each. The spear and stone do not affect the slime. It's a slime, made of slime.
>>

Well that idea won't work...
>>21596801
But now it's dead, so... I scoop up a bit of the slime with one of my many empty flasks, and carefully pour it into the pool of clear acid.
>>
With Echowinds, Jenai, Chuck, Vespin, Gurx, and Yrin, you should have a reasonable chance in Castle Gygar
>>
>>21596801
Did you factor me and my faceless goblin swarm in? I am ok if I wasn't, just want to be accyoorate.
>>
>>21596730

>>
>>21596825
It's fairly tricky, but you manage to get it in the flask and scrape some back out into the pool of acid. It melts away to nothing
>>
>>21596836
No. You guys weren't there, along with Echo, and only arrive just now
>>
>>21596801
XP: Added.

Alright, bot me because I'll be gone for a short while, hopefully not too long. The usual: Long range for me, melee for retainers, ranged if dangerous to close up. Cure Light wounds spell prepared, use on anyone seriously hurt.

Will be back anywhere between thirty minutes to an hour.
>>
>>21596831
I like the optimistic sound of "reasonable chance"

>.> "I say we quickly take samples from each non-lethal magical pool to get identified, and then return here later."
>>
>>21596841
"Wot is it ye make of 'at, lad?"
I'll carefully try to scoop some of the acid up into the slime flask without burning myself.

"I dunna bring any flasks, damnation."

"Oie Fig, dunna you think we canna get some of thar assid such in a flask?"

Assuming you continue
Pool of clear liquid: No effect
Pool of deep red liquid: No effect. It smells like delicious alcohol.

Jenai looks a bit sheepish at the overflasking.
>>

"I canna have paticence if thars alchol involved!"
I exclaim as I drain the rest of my wineskin and carefully fill it with the pool of deep red liquid, making sure to get none of myself.

"I'll be back for more inta jiffy!"
>>
>>21596894

Oh really?
I also fill my wineskin.
>>
>>21596982
It's great wine. You resist the urge to get hammered.
>>
>>21596959
"Fill 'em up."

Jenai's flasks are used for acquiring each liquid, for future identification.

Jenai has 14 flasks; any leftover flasks, (Echowind has already acquired some wine, for instance.) are filled with Acid.

Leod and Krago show up!

This room seems to be another bedroom, it's floor a mosaic of golden brown, white, and black tiles. There is a bed, three chairs, a desk with a drawer with a keyhole, and a battered old table. There is a painting showing a warrior and a magic user in a purple robe, and in the corner is a short message in elfish, signed Zelligar and Rogahn, and in another corner is the name Tuflor. It could be worth up to 300gp, but is fairly bulky.

The dest has several notes written in elfish on it, signed at the bottom with the name Marevak
>>
>>21597233
You hear nothing, so I assume you open it
>>
>>21597340

>>
>>21597343
Collect the notes, investigate the drawer, "Oi wonder iffin 'ey be love letters. Maybe good fer a lark, eh, lads?"
>>
>>21597382
The drawer has a keyhole in it, too small for the key in the acid pool.
>>
>>21597343
Yay!

Also, dang, can any of us speak elfish without Ruby?

>>21597382
Leod chuckles quietly, and roots around the bed for loot. "Jenai, think you can check out the drawer?" He asks, Krago moving around and using stonecunning on the room.
>>
>>21597431
Anyone with Intelligence of 13 or more knows extra languages, so if you haven't already decided on your languages you could pick elfish
>>
>>21597431
Krago doesn't detect anything unusual in the room
>>
>>21597378

>>21597464

I am back! Sorry for the wait, family matters came up, resolved now.

Alvaro doesn't fill any of his flasks with the strange pools, since everyone else is so no reason to. He is inspecting the painting, muttering about how he wish he could speak elvish.
>>
Rolled 57

Jenai attempts to pick the lock
>>
Well, time to try picking the lock on the drawer, earmark the painting to come back later for it, and explore elsewhere?
>>
>>21597676
Actually, since Alvaro read the books about Zelligar and Rogahn, does he know who Marevak and Tuflor are?
>>
>>21597709
Jenai fails, and there's a hissing noise from the desk! A foul stench begins to fill the room.

>>21597723
Marevak is their elvish companion and advisor, and Tuflor is some painter they hired to do their portraits

>>21597746
Any other information about Marevak he would know, or is that it?
>>
>>21597756
You all flee the room! There's still the stench filling the place, it could take a few hours to dissipate
>>
>>21597772
"Well, it would appear we're going to be exploring elsewhere for today." Leod notes mildly, glancing back at the room as he wrinkles his nose. Close call.
>>
>>21597771
Marevak was obsessed with having them add all sorts of crazy traps to Quasqueton
>>
>>21597772
"Roight, so while we woit, why dunna we head back tah town and get them luqids identified?"

Well, now we know how to blame. He may actually still be alive though, due to being an elf... Did he leave with the others North, or is there no info on what happened to him?
>>21597803
"Sounds fine with me, although I think we can still carry on. We could check out some of the place on our way back, I think we left a passage unexplored that may lead to the entrance."
>>
>>21597803
Okay, here's how the clerics identify them
flasks of pink liquid: "This was once healing potion, but I'm sorry to say that the magic has gone out of it"
flask of gray liquid: "This flask is filled with the tiny little monsters which cause diseases"
flask of cold liquid: "It's just water"
flask of hot liquid: "It's just lukewarm water"
flask of shimmering liquid: "This reveals the alignment of anyone drinking it"
flask of green liquid: "A sleeping potion"
flask of lake water: "Are you kidding? Water"
flask of water (1): "Yet more water"
flask of water (2, from the shallow pool): "This liquid causes those who drink it to become mute"
>>
>>21597840
You're not sure. Obviously the diary Zelligar was writing in around the time he went north was with him when he left
>>

I would like to gather several barrels and a hose or two onto our cart and head back to the room for some wine gathering!
>>
>>21597899
You can get the barrels, but not a hose or portable pump
>>
>>21597946
anyway to create one? If not I'll grab the biggest cup that will fit in the pool and scoop it out for now.

Maybe a bucket? That would work
>>
>>21597986
I'll work wik it!
>>
>>21597852
Hmm. Jenai will make a small cut on his arm, and take one of the unidentified healing potions, drizzling it onto his arm. Likewise, he will go to the pool of "potion" and knick a finger, then take a scoop of potion directly from the pool and risk a bit of it on his hand.
>>
>>21597994
>>21598000
Let's journey to the pools then!
>>
Okay, you all make your way back to the room of pools. Strangely, the pink pool has emptied while you were gone.
>>
>>21598000
The pool isn't there, and the pink liquid that came from it doesn't heal you
>>
>>21598017

>>21598020
"Well, that's not... Odd." Alvaro examines the now empty pool for holes, or anything where it might have gone.
>>
>>21598000
>>
>>21598038
There are no holes in the base of the pools. You suspect it might be mmmmagic!
>>
>>21598020
WELL FUCK IT.
"Time to hit the Castle, gentlemen?"

I assist Echo in transporting and possibly selling some barrels of wine.
>>
>>21598069
The other room behind the secret door has cleared of poison gas, if you want to go back in.

It takes some time to fill the barrels. You brought up to 4 in, and it takes 10 minutes (a turn) to fill one
>>
>>21598069
"it's gonnta be a fiftyah fiftyah, I keep half the barrels and we sell the other half" I exclaim as I keep filling a barrel.
>>
>>21598051
Alvaro frowns as he watched the empty pool for a moment longer, before shaking his head. "Well, yet more oddities..." He glances around the room, sighing. "What was this room even used for? Bathing? Waste disposal? Magic... Things?"
>>21598069
"Castle? Oh yes, Gygar's castle... Don't think I've been in there. I think we might want to check out that room that filled with gas though, might be something in there we missed."

>>21598103
"Shall we grab some bags of salt on our way out? I think there is still some left."

I am kidding. Jenai pockets it for the moment, for later identifaction. Then Jenai looks for more stuff in the room. If there isn't anything, Jenai checks for traps again before taking down the painting to look behind it.
>>
>>21598567
It's half empty, but if you watch for a while it seems to slowly refil.
>>
>>21598577
No traps, and there's nothing behind the painting.
>>
>>21598527
Jenai votes Castle.

Unless anyone else would like to look around here still?
>>
>>21598582
After loading the wine and salts I have Chuck, Vespin, and myself check over the pool to see if it could possibly be moved.
>>
>>21598624
Well, we could always try making a run for that treasure room with the magic guardians, or continue searching around? Maybe try to get through that stupid maze, now that we have a map?
>>
>>21598633
No. The pool is carved out of the floor.
>>
>>21598624
Alvaro gathers up the notes, and copies down the elven on the painting for future translations.
>>21598647
I think we should have an easier time with the maze. If not, you have a pick, and I have a very large hammer.
>>
>>21598597
"Let's lug this thing back and see what it gets us? Although - flooding the market with these two people's old belongings might attract unwanted attention."

Do we have a communal crash pad, or are we assumed to be sleeping in a tavern? If the painting isn't worth much, I suggest we keep it as a keepsake of our adventures.

"Gentlemen, I'm up for this maze if it's consensus. Then the guardians, if you don't mind - I like the idea of what they might be guarding. "

>>21598783
"I will maze it with you, and leave chuck to take the cart back and store the goods, then meet us back here."

"Let's send Yrin with him, just in case. Won't do to lose a man and our goods."

DM how long will it take them to return to us?

After the fire burns away, you enter this irregular room, about 30' by 40'.
The room is filled with beds, chairs, and stools, and on the south wall is a wooden chest of drawers and a locked treasure chest. In the southwest corner there's a steep slant towards the corner, where there's a hole. From the foul stench, it's clearly a latrine

>>21602242
Okay. You go east twice (through two doors marked with circles) and south through an unmarked door. You're in a 10 foot passage which goes east for 10 feet, turns north for 30 feet, then is a T junction to east or west
>>
>>21602240
"I favor the plan with the map."
I am here to provide support in combat, and traps and so on. as to navigation - I'm terribly bad at that.

Alvaro is currently drawing the room out on his piece of parchment, following them.
