ITT: The worst Mary Sues you've ever encountered during all your years of gaming.
>>
>>21596785
I've been lucky over the years, there's ben a couple "cool" NPCs who are stronger than the party put together and clearly we are meant to fawn over but they've never stuck around or gone on adventures with us
>>
>>21596975
You've been truly lucky.
We've got a new player (as in, never played DnD before) to our group, and his first character is Itachi from Naruto. No, not a character that's inspired by him, a character that is him. So, while we're mostly wizards, rogues or fighters, the guy's a fucking ninja sorcerer who doesn't talk and attempts to act cool and does whatever the guy from the anime would've done.

Piss off Demogorgon? Who cares, I'm too cool to die. Why is the wizard looking at me funny and preparing Edward's Spiked Tentacles of Penetration?
>>
I once tried to start a serious sci-fi mech rp. Not Gundam or animu; there were no giant human robots with voice activated special effects, or 'LOL SO QUIRKY' characters. The characters were meant to be proper, grizzled miners and mercenaries, while avoiding grimderp. Alien characters were allowed aslong as they weren't silly.

Some guy made a character who was an alien wolf anthro who could breathe underwater, ripped straight form something on DeviantArt, who reaked of animu (I think he had an electric katana or something), and had an annoyingly cool and flashy personality. His mech was a giant spider with more guns than god, which shot smaller spidermechs, which shot smaller spidermechs. Said spidermechs serves various purposes, from being poisonous mines to having even more weaponry.

I turned him down several times and made him keep editing his character sheet. I eventually accepted him because he wouldn't shut up, and I was relatively new to GMing at the time.
>>
>>21597285
Proceed.
>>
>>21597304
I'm afraid there's not really much to proceed with.

The game started with everyone on a mining ship, either as a miner or hired mercenary. I was displeased almost immediately when some people described their characters as doing things like eating ramen and doing 'lol funneh animu' stuff (like pulling faces and doing those sudden weird animu trip things). Wolf anthro was busy beating all the WEAK PUNY UNCOORDINATED BORING humans at pool.

The campaign just kind of came to a halt very shortly after it began, after the party landed on the big spaceship which was the focus of the story.

The annoying characters were partially diluted by a pretty cool guy. His character was an AI with the personality of a british gentlemen, who could go from his mech to his main body, which was a big bulky 'retro' looking robot.
>>
>>21597285
Don't you know that everything is spiders?
We've been over this before.

The only big Mary Sue problem I ever encountered was my friends Half-Dwarf Half-Celestial Prince who had two scimitars that absorbed all magic, two gloves that channeled that magic, 65 SR, and I think all his stats were in the hundreds. This was also the game he DM'd.

To be fair, though, we all ended up being pretty Mary-Sue-ish by the end of that campaign. I had a Sorcerer who could learn any spell, change any descriptors to anything else, make wands filled with any spell without an exp penalty, and every item he had gave him a CHA bonus.

We learned from our mistakes, but damnit, we had fun.
>>
This fatass ginger with a neckbeard came to a game in a sci-fi setting I was GMing once. His character was a "hot 17-year old" who had the power to "sense what people thought and tell the future". She was also able to "fight, like, 20 guys at once" since she was apparently once a 'government experiment' since she was a super-genius as a child, since the "government was evil." He reaked of a libertarian just out of a high-school level class on postmodernism. Wonder where that fat fuck is now.
>>
>>21597167
That's as much the GM's fault as the player's. On two fronts, really. He shouldn't have been allowed to make that character, but especially as a new player, the GM should have talked him through what playing a character entails.
That sure doesn't absolve the player of blame though.

Playing with one currently. She describes herself as:
>an incredibly beautiful woman with a figure that is the envy of many, a complexion that seems mystically unmarred, a face that can melt hearts at a glance, and a voice that, if it wasn't so weighed with her darkness, would be a lovely thing to hear. In fact, it's still beautiful, just darkly so. It is a pity her usual facial expression is one of uncaring apathy, because if she smiled, she could likely brighten up a room.
She cries after combat, carries a gigantic final fantasy sword that she's had since she was a kid, can get black angel wings in times of stress, has amnesia and is secretly a princess of some ancient race.

Pic related, it's her portrait.
>>
I get most of my roleplay on a Play-by-Post forum. One of the problems is that a bunch of people just make big ass lists of character sheets, and then post links to their premade characters on a roleplay they want to join. This wouldn't be so bad, but the characters in these lists are either carefully tailored to work as a mary sue in every setting, or would only fit in a few very specific settings but the players post them anyway.

One time I was GMing a rather cheery medieval fantasy, generic dungeon crawling adventures type game. And some guy posts a link to his character on one of thesae giant sheets. Said character was an alien. A giant xenomorph/tyranid-esque alien. With an edgy background. And it could use magic. And throw up acid.

The absolute WORST part is when a normal mary sue player creates a regular character and then plays it off as boring on purpose to try and prove to you that nothing is fun unless its a furry katana that shoots spiders.

Like there is even a choice between having everyone else have fun or just that player have fun. FOOK OFF

I usually play as religious, over the top heroic, white knighting Don Quixotes, with just a dash of religious fervor. My characters always end up looking like an overblown fusion of Alexander Anderson and Jean-Luc Picard.

I've noticed a danger sign for a character is usually if they have black hair.

While that in and of itself isn't a big issue, it's usually the way they describe it; "raven" or "jet black" is usually met with a sigh from me, since I know where that character's going.
>>
>>21597983
>>21598066

I'm also the guy who DM'd the "Wolf Anthro Adventures in Space" one.
I think sues often turn up on PbP forums, because there aren't usually set-in-stone rules for character creation and roleplay, so people just go wild and expect whatever shit they make to be acceptable.

So, the thing about the player is that he's not only a bad GM and player, he's a bad person in general. He posted maybe once or twice every few days in games he RAN, and railroaded like a motherfucker. For kicks, a few friends and I joined his game to see what would happen. A few of us played a girl and her three butlers, another, knowing what we were in for, played Cultist-chan and Henderson.
Dimentio, that guy who made it, played Kyle Reese, a seventeen year old with expert rifle training who was totes prepared for the things we found in this wreck of a game.

Found the werewolf harem member by the way, will post momentarily

By travels I mean sits on a bench outside the cathedral, occasionally sleeping with someone.

The plot is that we were all, for some reason or another, going through the mansion from Timesplitters 2, in our case it was to find the master's missing uncle. While an investigation based, CoC style game could be awesome, Dimentio was hellbent on an exactly done Timesplitters game. Upon our arrival he sealed us in with a tree, which, after some OOC arguing, he decided fell exactly so that we couldn't bust open a window and climb outside at out leisure.

Then we wanted to go left.

So, apparently, Dimentio had a boss planned out, some sort of deer monster thing, I'm assuming also ripped straight out of Timesplitters.
Before he wanted us to meet it in the rooms on the left, he wanted us to get rifles on the right side of the house.
Most DMs, especially in a play by post, would simply conveniently place the rifles on the left, as well as giving us a reason to carry them anyways. (Two butlers had handguns, Henderson had a shotgun already either way.)
Dimentio decided to coerce us by
A) telling us OOC he had the boss over there and he wanted us to get rifles, spoiling his own plot (but you know damn well we'd adventure there anyways)
B) Having his DMPC swipe Henderson's shotgun and aim at him, telling us all to go right for no real IC reason. This succeeded in two butlers aiming their own guns at him and simultaneously turning everyone hostile.

Draven Blackstone

This PC has been played by this guy in more systems and more games for more years than the player should care to admit. He has a binder full of his own stats/backstories (about 50+ pages long) as well as that of PCs he takes during convention games he runs (he runs them at anime conventions, not gaming expos). He has more actions per round and can do more damage per round using vaguely made powers that give him control over so many different elements that its obscene. He rules over multiple planes, including all of Ravenloft. And any campaign this guy DMs this character *will* show up in. Usually to nullify the entirety of the party's relevance and action at the end of the campaign/adventure so one of his few weaknesses can be barely exploited (all the weaknesses are in the hands of his best friends character's he adventurered with for years).

To top it off: his theme song: One Winged Angel.
>>
I'm always afraid my character ideas will go over the top. Here's two of my worst that I can just never manifest because I don't want to be "that guy"

First off is a blind swordsman. I would wanna work with the DM about penalties and stuff, but where it gets cheesy is with blind, light spells, etc.

The second is a student of an ancient and dying sword style. He possesses a magical sword that is doomed to kill its wielder (although he doesn't know it). It betrayed and killed his mentor in a fight, and he took it as an heirloom.

How Mary-Sue be these concepts?

I have mixed feelings.

You know maybe I've been lucky, but in all my years of online RPing, (Or Tabletop) I've never had experiances like this. I mean I've RPed in WoW, but my guild has generally always been simple structured, comfortable with adlibbing.
Night Elf, was training as a priest, discovered he had a talent for magic, moved to Stormwind to get training.
I've only done ERP once or twice on private chat, but its never been vulgar or childish. And it usually just develops into a large scoping story.
In short, I pity some of you, deeply.

Beware the guy that can dispel ethics. He's the one who'll make a game go off rails. For example:

> Raises the dead of other slaves to serve him
> "That's not evil - I once was a slave, so I understand their suffering"
> "Also, their new servitude will save the living"
> "Now, excuse me while I burn down this slave barracks to increase my army of undead"

I played in a PbP supers game where we were all supposed to create original character.

One asshole begs the GM to let him play Cassandra Cain. The semi-mute, dyslexic ninja who has a learning disability becausethe language portion of her brain is instead used for more fighting skills. Oh and her parents are the worlds greatest assasins who trained her from birth until she ran away because she didn't want to kill.
That's a fucking actual DC character btw.

Anyway said player spent every single point on fighting and then tried to bullshit his way into getting loads of free crap.
No car? "I go to the batcave and borrow a bat mobile"
Find a tech problem? "I call Oracle"
No money? "I borrow some from Batman"

I would have been able to put up with that except she subjected everyone to lengthy internal monologues about how he was "forced" to "mentor" all these rookie heroes who were crap compared to her and desperatly needed her help.

This is the story of John, a thirty something year old man.
John really, REALLY hated werewolves. And this was a game about the poor old werewolves being attacked by the big bad hunters.
The wolves, naturally, were headed by Dimentio's NPC, Jarek van Helsing.
I played an ex-farmer whose family was killed by werewolves, giving him a convenient excuse to genocide them with an executioner's axe. One of my /tg/friends played a character based on Red Riding Hood, whose sister vanished and was made into the Stockholme character you saw above.
So naturally, both characters were pretty intent on fucking some shit up.

Jarek started off with quite an impression, as I'm sure most people do. Many people get basic impressions about their character, whether they're lively, solitary, etc.
Jarek's impression said "I am immune to silver bullets and also horny; bring me some little girls."
He then promptly received an oil massage from the fourteen year old Elika.

I ran an "open" Dark Heresy game at my college once. Anyone who wanted to could sit in session and see whether they liked it, players came and left, it was good, we had a steady group after a while. So one day this person comes in and wants to play. Alright, seems fine. then things got a bit weird. I helped her roll up a character. Guardsman from a destroyed planet, religiously hated Xenos for it. Next session, they'd been investigating an Administratum head for heretical things. First combat encounter and some Chaos cultists come out. The girl then spends ten ful minutes describing how her character's "Beautiful, luscious hair" swept around her "Perfectly shaped head". She finishes by saying she shoots her Lasgun, killing all the heretics with one shot. I explain (Once again) we have dice for that sort of thing. She refuses, saying she'd never miss a shot. I went along with it. Two hours of the bullshit later and she's trying to convince me that she turned the Administratum guy to good, along with the rest of the planet, and it became a paradise.

One of the other players had his character shoot hers for heresy.

Well, I've seen (and played) a lot of stupid shit over the years, so I'll mention a recent instance that stuck out instead.

That being someone's Magical Burst character that later ended up turning into a one in a million sentient youma. She could command parts of the enemy's stronghold to open and such, was the only reason that the other members of the party didn't automatically die from knowing magical girls turn into youma, and probably more things I forget.

And this person had the gall to call my character bland.
>>
>>21600623
I remember the place too, land of avalon.

There was others, from some post-future magical apocalypse that had demons, vampires, robots, and many others things.

There was the Queen Bitch of the undead empire who kept a firm stable of men for her harem. She was played by a guy, got to know him, nice guy, but when you play yourself as vampire queen of the underworld other people are going to want you dead.

I was a classy demon that use 'shadow' magic. Stayed out of most conflicts, and thrived off of them by putting together fights to the death using prisoners, slaves, volunteered fighters, ect. Team Good didnt like how i'd put magical bombs on the prisoners and their spawn. oh well.

i never encountered any but i have been debating having my paladin go full on griffith and wipe out one guy in the most mary sue way possible when its my turn to DM but the problem is i don't think i can justify being "that guy" just to punish someone whos a altaholic in other RPGs and setting the precedent of the campaign escalating from a "friendly session of D&D between bros" which is something we agreed we wouldn't do

the guy in question has been kinda dickish to me in recent sessions but the problem is its only recent and the rest of the group doesn't have a problem with him yet (but agree he does get annoying after awhile outside of D&D) and if i do something to piss him off i probably won't hear the end of it since we are planning on doing a lets play channel together
>>
I play mostly on a Play by Post forum. There's this guy whose characters are always super special and powerful. One was a former paladin who went crazy, killed his comrades, repented, trained under some tengu, and became a merc who is supah fast and his sword can split into two.

Another time, he rolled a character that uses shadow magic and such a trait runs in his family and he has a tendency to act like it's a huge deal in a world where mages can do the same fucking thing.

Oh, and he has this habit of trying to pair his characters to a female mage I occasionally use from time to time. And he doesn't ask me if I want to do such a thing, he just assumes I'm okay with it and has his gary stu try to have 'deep animu conversation' with her.

Unfortunately, most of our campaigns are never completed so I don't get the chance to go 'lol my character lieks someone else' or 'lol my character friend zones you.'

Alright, ready for the shitstorm? From a freeform play-by-post RP I was in we have:

Princess Lien Hua, the Golden Oriental Dragon. Here are some pieces of her character sheet I saved:

Looks: Human Form - A beautiful Chinese girl in her late teens or early twenties.
Dragon - A golden Chinese dragon 10 ft high at the shoulder and 100 ft long, with accent colors of rose and white gold, and brown eyes.
(In both forms she has a perfume like scent, slightly intoxicating to dragon types, which grows stronger if she is exited or under stress. When in dragon form the perfume like scent is more noticeable to humans, and others, as sweet or jasmine like. The effect on dragon types is the same in either form.)

Special Skills: Martial Arts, Languages, Sewing, Pottery, Metallurgy and Smithing, Ordinary Cooking
As a dragon she can fly, breathe fire and chlorine gas.
Her perfumed sweat is a natural healing elixir that can heal any wound or cure any poison.

Special Possessions: Adamantine Sword, Small Bag of Jewels, Magic Summoning Scroll and Brush

At one point she died, and then three days later she came back. And she was got the Dragon Sword from the Dragonsages that gave her seven forms!

A soul reaper, digimon, Nobody (with a keyblade), Fay/Kitsune, mobian echidna 'with the power of X-man Storm', Fire Oni, and a Robot/Earthbender

Now, my friend and I knew that, in all likelihood, we'd get killed by werewolves, but we still intended to at least go down swinging. I started off by throwing my axe at Dimentio.
He ignored that post and tackled me to the ground. Then he said, "Anon, you should do this or else you'll die" OOC, meaning at this point he was not only railroading story but also characters' INDIVIDUAL ACTIONS.

And then he bit and infected John with werewolf.

(Friend just reminded me that Red Riding Hood worked for the Vatican, and that we also wanted to make a base in a silver mine before the game died.)

Herein came another chance for great roleplaying. A tragic character, going on one last mission to kill a bunch of werewolves (though there were other animals besides just wolves), before offing himself? I dug it. So, about five posts later, Dimentio sends in a new character to stop anything dramatic from happening. Enter a trenchcoat wearing swordsman who tells us that there's a cure at the Vatican, removing any actual threat from the game.

I should mention by now, he declared me the protagonist out loud, which any GM should know, you never EVER do. It killed off all interest from other players besides me, Red Riding Hood, and Dimentio himself.

You forgot the part where after biting you the entire massive were-creature army just upped and left.

Not before razing the nearby town we had been staying in to the ground, because Werewolves.

And our forced journey to Vatican city which was luckily only 2 days away, when it would have been far more efficient to just shoot you in the head with a silver bullet and carry on.

and the lack of a defined time period because he wanted modern clothing, but didn't want to give the hunters access to automatic firearms.

Then the Nuns cured you with Holy Majickz.

Then we got an audience with the Pope because "You knew more about his plans than anyone else." despite actually having only fought him once.

Still, I got to Silver Net that Were-bird thing, and by the power of badly thought out fighting scenes was holding off a good portion of this were-creature army on my own whilst you were fighting Jarek.

No, but I remember that thread.

I wish it was an awesome train-wreck like that.

Nah, I got booted from a Gundam one for making a character who was 'too OP' and 'not willing to follow the plot'.

What happened was I built a custom suit under the forum rules starting with the Tallgeese that was 'goes fast' beyond anything else in the freaking universe. My whole thing was an in and out Assassin/war profiteer who was supposed to take out the big targets, who never fought a direct serious engagement.

Please note that this was all known during the approval process, and the character WAS approved.

So I make this character, and right afterwards one faction launches a major attack on the other one. At this time, one of the major characters from the aggressor faction attacks our base in a Gundam of some kind.

Despite the fact that we had no known ties to the group they were warring with, were way the balls out of the way, and he was a fucking DIPLOMAT.

He calls me out, and I do the sensible thing: send out some drones to distract him and go out the back door to run for my life. Dude's a canon badass played by a Admin. I didn't want to die.
>>
>>21602719

He manages to teleport ahead of me despite the fact that I can outrun a beam-rifle in a straight line and tries to attack me. After I evade dieing several times in rapid succession only to try and escape because GUNDAM, I get banned for god-modding.

It should be noted that my suit had the damage resistance of a cardboard box, was made of pure speed-force, and my character was known to be cowardly and opportunistic before this shit started.

A friend of mine who invited me in in the first place got pissed that I got banned for reacting reasonably and in character, while the Admin got to abuse his powers and fuck bitches.

I got invited back and was told it got better, but I never cared enough to return.

How bad to you have to be to screw up a story that directly copies a linear shooting game? Just say the left wing campaign derail zone was just a room with dusty old furniture and no other exits. There's rooms like that throughout the level with nothing but a grisly scene and maybe health or armour. The whole fucking thing was laid out for him and he couldn't handle it.

The worst part of it all is that now someone out there might think poorly of the Timesplitters series due a bad experience with a rip off. That is just a crime against fun and deceny.

Not so much about the character but the player:
>Claiming to be a better role player than another player out of spite

>By extension of the above- shouting over other players' RPing to try and be funny

I once thought that trolling open freeforms would be as easy as whipping up a parodically bad Mary Sue and going wild. It took some maturity to realise that I would be indistinguishable from the people I was making fun of, and that the real way to derail a bad freeform is by being... normal. Take advantage of realism and physics where possible, but otherwise just be a normal person amongst the freaks.

Somehow, being that average town guard in a group of godlings disrupts the game harder than any parody godling of my own. It's something I will never understand, but will always admire.

There was this one one online RP i was a part of for one session where we could do anything. I said, "Ill be a wookie" and just expected to be the brick. One girl, an allegedly veteran RPer, came up with some unicorn princess with a tragic rape backstory, multicolor eyes and somehow, a katana who was stronger than my wookie and was perfect at everything. The session broke up before it began when i called her out on her mary sueness and she got mad, insisting that i was jealous.

stupid and ridiculous instances aside, one player in my current group has it pretty bad. Whenever we suggest a new setting or consider building new characters, she usually just gravitates to the most awesomely powerful canon character; Song of Ice fire? "Dragon Lady." Serenity? "River"

We were building Mutants and Masterminds characters. Her concept was literally a pop star with a telekinetic "hex spheres" power set like Scarlet witch and a father who is basically Bruce Campbell from Jack of all trades.

One of the best pieces of advice I've heard for characters is to introduce them with their faults first, and not to have their faults just disappear over time, either.

Too often I see people's profiles filled with weaknesses or faults that are either situational, or could be good for them (temper invariably makes them great fighters, for instance). Why is it so wrong to have a character who has noticeable weaknesses and faults that don't get cured by love or ignore their weaknesses at opportune times?

Recently abandoned ship in a Shadowrun game where one player wanted to play a japanese yakuza heiress. As in, she's in line to inherit a whole 'gumi.

Who was also an enforcer for a megacorp, and wouldn't ever lie. Which included refusing to use a fake SIN ... after explaining how bad not having a SIN is when going anywhere, she "compromised" with a real SIN.

Nationally famous, privileged family name, legitimate SIN, completely ignored gear in favour of saying "She's got all the best security in her commlink, so only fuck with her if you want your brain fried!"

They weren't MS's, at least. It was all on the amateur / psychopath end of the amateur / psychopath / professional scale of runners. Paranoid as fuck, incompetent and denying it all the way.

The group argued infront of Mr Johnson after my character set up an encrypted channel to talk on. Everyone tried to justify not drinking or eating in a restaurant. Ms Nationally Famous threatened to kill me over a minor gift. The last thing I saw, they hired a van from a rental company to do a job in, instead of going through contacts / illegal channels.

If you're going to hog the spotlight, you're going to hog the spotlight. Shoehorning flaws can be just as stilted and unnatural as your average Mary Sue.

I don't bother with elaborate backstory when I roleplay. I use generic archetypes as a template and then let the character develop. That way, your character can only become as weird as the plot.

>>
>>21604985
I said nothing about adding flaws where they don't belong, just having real flaws and making sure they're actually thought-out and not ignored.

I always preferred to write a small backstory so I kept my character idea internally consistent. Nothing huge, just enough to give me direction beyond an archetype or idea. My gripe was less about that though, and more about people who write in flaws that aren't flaws, or write in no flaws at all.

"Clumsy!" and "Too nice!" are rarely actually played as flaws, and are instead played as endearing traits of the character that never bite them in the ass.
>>
>>21605042
Too nice would actually be an interesting flaw, that sort of thing can be really infuriating.

Do you think a character based on Ginko would be a Mary Sue?
>>
>>21605006
Magic 8 ball says probably all of them.
>>
>>21605078

That's more of a quirk than a flaw. And Mary Sues love quirk.
>>
>>21605090
I was personally thinking of people who are too nice because they have some kind of desperate fear that people might not like them. That sort of dependency makes for a real flaw, though it might be annoying to play with a character who is constantly trying to make sure you don't hate her.
>>
>>21605082
If played well no. He doesn't really have much in the way of special abilities, he's pretty spiritually sensitive, he's got a backpack with lots of stuff, and he knows a fuckton about spirits. That's about it.

It could be easy to go overboard, and always say you have the exact solution to a problem, but that's in how you play it, not in the character itself.

Ginko is just a man who sees a bit farther into a vast and complex world, he rarely confronts anything directly and instead uses the Mushi's nature to solve the problem.

I will attempt to recreate, from memory, my GM's PC that ended up being the main focus of the campaign. It was my first legit 3.5 campaign and I was playing a wizard so I didn't really notice or care much about the imbalance of his character until later on.

6'8" 200lb Half-elf Duskblade with Red hair and Dark Black eyes (the whole eyes)

Great ability stats and a +2 spiked chain that became an epic weapon after he got a critical killing blow on a small black dragon.

We all bounced out of that campaign after repeated bullshit like the previously mentioned dragon incident.

But are Mary Sue characters that numerous? I mean I try to write my characters as normal people without any super powers or secret special characteristics. Am I alone?

Made a mary sue on purpose.
>"Tactical genius" bard who made a pact with a devil, knowing the devil would outsmart him and eventually take away the power he gave him once the mortal outlived his usefulness, he made a pact with another devil of a different faction within the infernal planes who are in a constant state of diplomatic tension and empty threats, all afraid to take action because of Asmodeous who would make anyone stupid enough to provoke a civil war disappear.

>Also make a pact with a demon so as to promote instability within the infernal planes because demons fucking hate devils and want to take over their plane.

>No fiend has direct control over my soul/contract now. For to try to invoke it in any way, would break their end of the bargain. This only applies to devils however... devils are bound by lawful alignment cosmic force that if they overtly break their own rules, it creates a paradox in their being causing their own utter annihilation.

>So now... I have all this fiendish power, bestowed upon me by piling debt ontop of debt much like nations do irl. No one wants to be "that guy" and have everything fall and take the blame. Except maybe the demon.

>The DM finds this greatly amusing. The devils now send infernal assassins to kill me, but they are not told why. Since they can not intervene against me directly, and I can take as much of their power as I want for my own as their contracts are pretty much laughable on my end.

>The demon laughs and says I'm one of the most awesome mortals he's ever met. But still conspires against me because he wants to see everything burn.

>Why do all this? Because a long time ago my great grandfather made a deal with Asmodeous, Asmodeous screwed him over, and a curse has been on my family ever sense. Don't fuck with this family Asmodeous.

Maybe not so much mary sue, as a liberal usage of Deux Ex Machinas.

This is how people should chaotic neutral. Your character sounds like a risk-taker, motivated by bitterness and massive butthurt. He cares nothing of himself, or others. But is has no desire for power, or the lust of inflicting pain on other people. Just a dick who gets shit done.

What's funny is your DM could turn this around and explain 4th edition fluff by saying somehow this all went very very wrong, and the infernal planes out-tactical geniused you. (Most likely Asmodeous knew all along) and are using you to dismantle the abyssal planes. Let the pawns of lesser devil lords fall.

Got a bad one as an DMPC in my current Pathfinder game.
Starts off at level one and he's a magus.
>Cool, I've never seen one in game before, this should be neat.
He's some kind of mysterious but helpful figure with the "grace of a chelish noble". And we're not in Cheliax
>Huh... ok... I can deal with this I guess.
Later on we find out that he's apparently still pretty rich, and keeps a young female ward, who is he rescued valiantly, and who loves him completely and unconditionally.
>Small warning lights going off.
And she's a nymphomaniac.
>Warnning!
Later on we find out that after he was raised a noble, he ran off to be a bandit for many years. And became a renowned bandit lord in the River Kingdoms.
>No.
Who was so famous some random thug across the continent not only knew who he was, but was so cowed by him, he instantly believed he was who he said he was.
>No-No-No.
Finally, in a post-game conversation, we were discussing paladins as a class, for silly nerd-talk fun.
"Oh, Kayne was a Paladin too. But then he killed a guy just after he took the oath and ran off."
This was never once mentioned before and never even remotely hinted at. The murder or the paladin stuff.
>fortheloveofgodstoppleasestop
And mind you, all of this stuff took place before the game stated, and he was still level 1.

To the DM of this game, I love you dearly as a friend, and you've run some absolutely stellar games, but... dis guy... dis fuckin' guy...

I once did a drow rogue.

Only, I didn't go for ZOMG SO SPECIAL.

I went for...a typical male drow.

skulky, opportunistic, massively bitter.

I had him be suicidally homicidal to elven females based off his ritual and regular objectification at the hands of the Drow females of his city.

He died first session trying to pickpocket what turned out to be the BBEG wizzard.

Then he got (almost) raised by LOLTH HERSELF because the DM was a fucking drizzt fangirl and wanted me to be the star.

So I had him say "no" repeatedly, telling the god of his race to go get fucked.

Didn't work.

There will be more. I'm getting the campaign notes from that game. brb /tg/, with more of the Tale of Gultel the Snivelly..
>>
>>21605857
So wait, you played an almost MS, and then the DM made you a MS? Thats fucking weak.
>>
>>21605857
Something similar happened to me. I'd had no intention of it, but the GM's had other plans. After almost 2 TPKs, The GM decided that the surviving PCs would be made something akin to main characters, this included my second character who survived by the skin on his teeth.

I had been playing something like nameless trooper who was down on his luck but still powering through life like, well, a trooper. He was a decent cavalier but didn’t seem to fight well on his own two feet. His personal life was crap because he tended to be jealous of others’ accomplishments and his arranged wife hated the shit out of him.

But that’s kinda where the uniqueness stopped I had the dead family/revenge aspect going against me. He was relatively stubborn, thick headed, naïve and good hearted. He got PTSD’d after the 2nd almost TPK, so he became brooding. And his god-like ancestor possessed his body when he was in deep shit, causing the stats to explode. And he ended up banging his wife who was crying in the snow (It was a pity fuck, but the setting was still cliché)

anyways, so after about 15 RL minutes of this, she finally has Lolth stalk off in a huff. Then Eilistraee show up and praise my chara for "resisting the evils of her mother" and raises me.

I figure my drow-male who hates drow and all they stand for wouldn't mind having Eilistraee help him, so up he goes.

What followed was him receiving the "blessing of eilistraee" which equivelated to negating the con penalty and adding another 1 to my dex. at level 4. giving me 22 dex at level 4 since I'd poured all my shit into dex.

Up next is the tale of how Gultel the cowardly snivveling drow forcibly saved a city of half-elfs.

Right, so. Gultel was now the "chosen of eilistraee" whatever the fuck that meant.

So the game continues on. Gultel continues to be a coward, stealing from and insulting various elven NPCs who were conjured up by the DM in an attempt to "rehabilitate him".

Finally, the DM has us visit this OCDNS city populated by like 95% half-elfs and 5% ruling class high elfs.

It was a "sanctuary" where "persecuted halfbreeds" could go and find a happy life.

Naturally Gultel hates this and wants to burn the whole place to the ground.

So we get escorted to the center tower, where it turns out that one of the magister-lords was an ex-priestess of Lolth who had "saw the light" and deserted.

So Gultel goes absolute batshit insane. I mean i had him just fly at this bitch dagger out mouth frothing. She hits him with a hold person and spends a fuckass long time talking about how she "empathizes with his pain" and wishes to "show him the light of compassion"

Fianlly, after it becomes apparent that Gultel is not going to cooperate with her, she flat out says that she'll make sure he never has to deal with a drow ever again (because of her 'contacts' or whatever) if he agrees to help her.

More coming up, gotta find the notes for this aprt.

My favorite DMPC was mary sue-ish I suppose.

>She was described as a carefree 16 year old Scandinavian with milk white hair and skin.
>Her town is ultimately destroyed because of the main villain, everyone she's ever known except the party is butcherd in front her.
>She spends about a month in game time becoming an intense archer, starts going into dungeons with the party. Saves the party ranger and paladin on numerous occasions.
>Slowly starts to get depressed as her group of adventurers die one by one. PCs give no fucks about her and want to smite the evil and fuck bitches.
>gives up a powerful artifact intended for her to the party ranger because she values his life over hers. Her mental state worsens and the paladin decides to talk to his horse instead of cheering her up.
>The party finds out she is the Literal embodiment of death. She has the ghosts of her fallen friends help her in combat, effectively becomes as powerful as the vampire lord. The Ranger becomes jealous of her and plans her downfall.
>Is ultimately betrayed by the group's paladin, because he thought she was a greater evil than the vampire lord. He strikes her from behind as she sends her ghost to kill the Vampire lord's Familiar
>She's brutally executed by the Ranger and the fallen Paladin who have become nothing but thralls, everyone else is killed by the vampire lord.

Good god, Christiana I'm so sorry I have terrible players. I think I got PTSD from the end of that campaign.

Nah, this is Shaft in World of Darkness, and he is one bad motha...

You're a goddamn pansy.

Shes not mary sue if she dies.

I'm exaggerating of course, but It was just sad because I really thought they could kill the vampire and save the land. And my players stopped the only person that could have saved them.

Well, she deserved it. That's what you get for giving multiple fancy hoojoo to the DMPC, even if she gives one of them to an actual PC. Nobody wants to be second fiddle to the goddamn narrator.

Your players dealt with that slut the right way.
>>
question:
How you deal with Mary Sue characters?, a big NO? a "change things and then we'll talk"? a "get out of my sight...now!"?
>>
>>21608097
Try and work with your players, find a nice middle ground you can both accept.

I once played a Sindri Myr ripoff.

Although they actually turned out to be one of the only decent characters in a game full of sues.

Oh, they were also called Cindy Myr and were a Succubus who acted like a serial killer of some kind and had deep emotional issues regarding those whose souls she had consumed.

In short, she had a trunk full of scrapbooks, these scrapbooks were filled with pictures and information about her prey, she also talked to them, and believed as long as she lived they lived on with her, so she had to kill more, otherwise she would die of starvation, and then they'd all die, so more had to die, so the previous ones didn't die.

It was a vicious circle of lust, hunger, death and regret.

when all was said and done, she only really acted like Sindri when she was plotting/deceiving.

Depends on the Mary Sue.

If she can't fit into the story (for example, a Chaos Demon of Justice among Space Marines), then I tell them politely to change it, and I try to find a middle ground. In the other case, I let them run for some time, see what they'll fuck up (they'll always fuck up), and slowly tweak the story for their eventual and just demise. For the added irony, I let the other players make it out fine, while only the show hogging whore gets vaporized.

It's always nice to to fuck them up. If their character is as OP as they claim, you can bet your ass that they'll get more unwanted attention then a normal group would. For example:

You have a "tactical-genius" Fishmalk in your group, and the Prince has decided that, because of his "renown", he would be an ideal candidate for mounting an assault on some Sabbat vampires. The guy accepts, because who'd dare to lie to him? Nobody, of course. The fact that he offended the Prince on a couple of occasions? Who cares, the Prince doesn't want to mess with him.

Meanwhile, the Prince gives the other players the orders to lead this guy into a trap. This is their chance for redemption in his eyes - if they die, the Prince doesn't care. If they succeed, jolly good.

They're given an item that's supposed to ensure their victory against the Sabbat. It's a small box, and they're ordered to deploy it inside the Sabbat base. The item is a werewolf artifact, that attracts them like crazy. The Mary Sue will, of course, be entrusted with this weapon, as she is the only one with the skill to deploy it.

Tell the other players to run small tasks while the Mary Sue thinks that the game is about her. She needs a blood pack? Get her a poisoned one. She needs a great gun? Give her one that'll break at the most important moment. You get the idea.

Mary Sues are not people, so don't feel bad about breaking them or their players. Fuck those bitches.

I'm talking 'bout Shaft.

We can dig it.

Ah, I remember that game, I played that undead warlock who viewed everyone around him as a pawn, including himself, for his Lady, as he only called her, while conducting SCIENCE in how to tear souls out of living and dead and how to mold them into different shapes, while unlocking the physical laws of the immaterium.

Hmm, perhaps we should finish that game, just to add to the very short list of finished games on PbP Forums.

>Sacrificing yourself to bring world peace and being worshiped as a messiah for the rest of time.
>Not a Mary Sue if she dies

Pick one.

I want to see this so bad. Just imagine it - an '80s style police show, about Shaft and Columbo solving occult mysteries...

I have. Easily my most popular character among other players. She's a semi-stereotypical young-girl-in-a-man's-war; PTSD on top of her crippling social incompetence, and literally selfless to a fault. Separation anxiety (brought on by countless deaths around her) makes fear of rejection into a stew of mania and self-doubt. Most of the time she's a diligent (obsessive) but self-effacingly shy denmother type who's busy making sure everyone's okay, but she has just as much combat experience as anyone else on the field. So she's made some pretty inspirational last-stand type ultimatums to cover for injured or retreating allies.

I've yet to have her die in a game, and she's probably my second-most recurring character..

Pic related.

So... Anyone got anymore stories?

I cut my teeth on BBS roleplay when I was a teenager. Co-admined a Kingdom Hearts-based RP simply called The Organization, which took place ~100 years after the games. It was a revolving door of edgy tryhards with tragic backstories, often demonic or angelic heritage, and sequential transformations between forms.

There's nothing that can really be said about it. It was terrible, but I had no context, so I didn't really know how low the place was.

What WAS cool was our occasional Battle Royale events. We'd set up tournament brackets and have us a good old fashioned 80s-90s anime tournament arc in the form of realtime chatroom posting. Because it was almost entirely freeform, we'd set up a panel of impartial judges who would weigh each player's originality, style, and ability to keep fighting without resorting to godmodding. Because everyone was effectively a DBZ character but going straight "nuh-uh you missed/it didn't affect me" was a surefire way to have the judges side against you, we had some incredibly over-the-top fights that turned into martial arts/weeaboo fightan magic extravaganzas like I'd never before and to this day haven't again had the pleasure of witnessing.

All I had to do was weather the hail of half-demon Naruto character ripoffs.
