>Getting Ready to run AC-Quest.
>Been too long since the last one, hopefully things will be smoother from here.
>If there's an interest, I'll put up a 'general' thread to discuss upcoming changes to the Armored system and why I've been so busy.

YOU ARE ELIZA MCALLISTAIR.

You know this because Jack just yelled at you again and hit you with a towel.

"Liz, get your head in the game. Melee is your biggest problem area." He says shaking his head.

"Sorry Jack." You answer after pulling the towel off your face. "Not sure why I've been so spacy lately."

"Will?" He asks, giving you a small condescending smile.

"What? Why would Will be bothering me?"

"... You mean he still hasn't said anything?"

"About what? That I'm joining his crew after basic?"

He throws up his hands in frustration. "Fuck it, it doesn't matter. I'll teach you how to fight, but I'll be damned if I'll teach you about romance." He picks up one of the training swords and gives it a spin in his hand. "Whenever you're ready, come at me."

>Beat my roll.

You manage to do better this time, with the sting of his chastisement still on your mind.

You don't really manage to do much offensively, but you manage to avoid actually getting hit. It's progress. Makes you feel good.

"You keep improving like this and I'll have to start using my right hand." Jack comments off-hand, and you feel the wind leaving your sails behind immediately.

"I'm not sure I'm ready for that..." You respond nervously, looking at the artificial right arm.

"Maybe, maybe not." He answers with a shrug. "It's not like I'm unable to hold back when using it."

>>
"So uh..." You kinda fidget slightly. "What's with the arm? I've never really been told what the deal is there."

"That's because I don't do a whole lot of talking about it." He responds. "Apparently people assume it's a sensitive issue."

"Huh. Seems to me like it might be useful. I mean, it's a lot better than a normal arm, right?"

"Depends on what you mean by 'better'. Waking up in the morning it's a literal dead weight until the on board processor cores synch to my neural patterns. In exceptionally cold climates I need to be careful to ensure I don't get frostbite since it neither creates nor contains heat. Plus it's very... disquieting. It doesn't feel like my arm, and it never will."

".... So why get it?"

"Because the alternative was to lose my dominant arm. Phantom limb pain keeping you up at night's enough to make you reconsider, but the main reason is my job. With out the arm, I couldn't do it. Job's more important than my personal comfort. In comparison to that, feeling a little bit less than Human's a small price to pay."
You aren't really sure what to say to that.

[ ] Continue sparring.
[ ] Ask another question (?).
[ ] Go deal with transfer paperwork.
>>
>>21680156
[X] Ask another question (?).

Ask about trying a different weapon. Swords just ain't our style, maybe try out staffs, spears, axes.
>>
>>21680156
I get the feeling we are using a sword because we are only good with a polearm but lets ask and she what happens if we can use a spear or lance.
>>
"Hey, mind if I try using another weapon?" You ask, trying to get away from the uncomfortable topic.

"... Why? The whole point of this training is to get used to weapon handling for their utility in cores. Swords are pretty much the only game in town."

"What about a spear? They have those new Force-lances down in the Armory right now."

"Despite my recommendations." He notes, shaking his head. "I try to tell them that they're a bad idea. There's too fragile for mech scale combat. They have limited utility. But apparently they're still worth a few million more to them than rationality."

"But still...."

"Alright, fine. go grab a quarter-staff out of the shed." He says with a gesture. "You'll see that you're getting excited over nothing."

He seems almost... disappointed in you.

[ ] Grab a staff.

You lash out low, and he calmly hops back over your sweep. You respond by sending several quick trusts with the end of the staff towards his chest and face, which he manages to deflect while stumbling backwards. His surprise is as obvious as it is brief.

He switches to a defensive stance quickly, watching the staff come at him in jabs and sweeps. He spins and turns it aside, blocking it time and again. He isn't losing ground... But he isn't attacking. He's faster on the uptake than this, if there was an opening he would've exploited it. Right now, he's just trying to survive.

You manage to bring the staff around and parry the incoming strike to the ribs. The blow comes in so hard it makes you stumble slightly back. You feel the wood crack slightly in your grip, and Jack's blow is repelled.

Then you feel a stinging pain as you regain your balance, and note him walking past you. "Alright, apparently you're meant to use a spear." He says with a resigned sigh. "Not sure how that's going to work with a Core, but I guess that's your bag."

You notice the sting is distinctly hand shaped. Did he...? "You aren't going to help me train more?"

"Sorry Liz, but I had a prior engagement." He responds calmly. "Ryan and Ira are both going on assignment with you, so they can help you refine your technique a bit." He hesitates. "In fact, odds are this might be the last time we see each other."

"Huh?" The news is.... shocking. Jack's been a dependable, if somewhat inconsistent part of life all through training.

"Yeah, so... I suck at goodbyes." He says with a shrug. "Fuck it, I need to move out. Take care of yourself, kid." He finishes with a half-hearted wave before heading out the door.

Apparently he's gone now. All he left behind were some words of encouragement and a hand-shaped bruise on your butt.

You never even thanked him for going out of his way to help you so much.

WHY CAN'T YOU SEE?!?

You start to open the door. You try to turn away. You finally listen to the voice in your head telling you something isn't right.

The door keeps opening. This never happened. It didn't happen like this.

The door opens. Some part of you refuses to be shocked. She told you she only prefers girls. Something about that makes you reject the sight before you all the harder.

You push away, you turn to run. You wouldn't have that talk with Abby for another year. You feel hands grabbing you, pulling you back, pushing you down.

No.

That's the final straw. Will wouldn't do this. Will isn't like him.

You close your eyes, and bite your lip as hard as possible. The grip on your body fades away, and when you open your eyes....

The flashing 'ALERT' signs burn your eyes and you shake your head, clearing the last vestiges of the dream from your mind.

You see that your core danced slightly into a building while you were out. Apparently you were either spared or ignored by those MT units you saw earlier.

"That wasn't me." You respond, shaking off the disorientation. Captain Brenner's a rated A, specializing in battlefield control. You know he could kill you as easy as breathing if he catches you, and you're too out of it to run.

"Oh really, and why should I trust the word of a traitor?" He asks, almost conversationally.

"Because I'll vouch for her." A voice cuts in.

"...Jack?"

"Sir?" the Captain's voice is suddenly uncertain. "You're sure?"

"Reasonably." Jack's voice responds. "Liz, do you think you can get yourself to the Raven's care? Because I think I'm going to have to borrow the Captain for a minute."

"Jack? Why are you here?"

There's a moment of silence. ".... Would you believe that I found an amazing deal on some Real Estate?"

"You up and vanished from the pack and took a handful of our best with you, and now you're in Vegas?" You return angrily. "What the hell is going on?"

".... Alright, you don't get to be too upset with anybody for walking out on the Pack, first off." He responds, switching the line to private and over to video. His eyes- "Secondly, I didn't tell you about what I was planning to do because I didn't want you wrapped up in my personal business."

"But-"

"Liz, I promise I'll make some time to talk to you about this, but right now you need to go back to your squad." He looks away and types something on a keypad next to him. "And I need to focus on bailing out this jackass. Again." The cutoff on the video is abrupt, and Brenner passes by you with his squad-mates a few moments later, rushing out into the Northern desert.

"Sorry about that. I was just wanting to ask you who the hell you were and what you were doing on my battlefield?"

"I'm.... former Wolf Pack." You respond. "My squad and I were sent here on a slip to help as soon as we got word of the attack."

"Odd, but now's not the time to closely examine your questionable story." He says. You hear a few more bursts of gunfire, and the man on the other line chuckles. "So that's where we stashed to MAC cannons.... Listen, Lt? Shoot bad-guys and make yourself useful, or fall back behind the lines so you aren't in the way. I don't care which, just make sure you aren't hurting the cause."

He then disconnects the line, and you see few bits of MT units come flying from around a nearby corner like they're getting shredded.

You decide the best thing to do would be to investigate the most immediate signs of danger. No point in trying to run if you'll just get shot in the back.

"Come on, when have I ever led you guys wrong?"

"That time when you said that girl outside the Casino was totally into you?"

"You're sure we can pull this through, Butch?" Says the one who claimed to have nearly been neutered."

You open onto the comms line. "Hey, you guys mind if I fly with you for a while? I got separated from my squad."

You see line switch to a Vid comm and the face of a 20-something Elvis impersonator greets you. "Hey, how did you crack the encrypted channel?"

"Encrypted? You guys were talking on an open frequency." You answer confused.

"Lies and trickery." He responds, eyes narrowed. "You must have some first class equipment on you to get in on our gear."

"No, not really. I think it's actually damaged from hitting that building earlier." You're having second thoughts about this whole 'join them' thing.

"Oh really." He says with a smirk. "Well, I'll just ask Wally then." He presses a button on his console. "Wally? Were we broadcasting on an open channel?"

"Actually yes." His friend responds in voice. "Apparently you forgot to turn it off after We relayed Duke's evacuation orders."

Butch stares at the console. He stares hard for about thirty seconds before turning back to you. "Alright, so.... If you want to fly with us we have to know what you're capable of."

"Strike fighter. I specialize in taking out single targets with extreme speed and precision."

"An assassin build?" He asks, looking thoughtful. "Not something great for long term battle, but we'll find a use for you."

A noise comes from the street over, and you see a large machine flanked by a squad of MT units. It turns upon seeing you, and pods begin to open along it's body.

You look the situation over. Deep breath, you're trained for this.

It's new in design, but it's not some grand new invention, it's clearly parts of other machines combined into a new shell. It's hard to spot at first, but the motive systems are unscaled versions of deep-ground excavation equipment. The gun pods and weapons systems are refitted Naval point-defense weapons, and the missiles are long-range Helvorst style.

Also knows are the 'flying war-crime'. You suppress a shudder. Whoever designed this thing clearly intended to use it against civilians more than a controlled military force.

The armor seems a bit think but- a thought occurs to you. The missiles have a Napalm based accelerant for roasting entire villages alive. If you can punch a hole in the shell by the pods, then it's an easy kill. All you need to do is cut it open with a beam saber, or cook the pods with a laser rifle when they open.

As you look down at your Force Lance and AR-227, you swear you can hear Jack laughing at you in the back of your mind.

Alright then, punching it in the explody bits might at least prevent the situation from getting too uncontrolled, but it wouldn't really solve the bigger problem.

Taking out the optics won't matter. Since it's a terror weapon it doesn't NEED to aim, and it can still make loads of trouble even if we lock it down.

Disabling the weapons comes first.

You manage to get a lot more Data than you were expecting. Your earlier hunch about it being mostly recycled tech was accurate, as you get a lot of hits from various catalogs and references stored in your core.

You manage to not only identify your intended target areas, but also the best ways to destroy several secondary targets as well.

But the biggest surprise was this: There was no signs of biological activity at all. You might not like killing people, but you can't KILL robots.

As you complete your assessment, you see one of the secondary canons start to track you.

>>
>>21696988
>>21696971
>>21696955

You note it's path and do a quick boost off the ground and then back and watch the shots fly wide of you.

It fires a few more bursts like that and you soon memorize it's targeting patterns for easier evasion.

Fighting something like this really brings back your training. You aren't in a battle, you're solving a problem. The problem is big, so you break it down into it's component parts. you solve it one piece at a time, just like a math problem.

You smile, remembering the metaphor. Being good at Math is worth something at least, you reflect.

Now then, the Data suggests that taking out any three legs will put too much of a strees on the remaining limbs for it to remain mobile. The Heavy Weapons cluster in the back is it's biggest threat, but it's also only vulnerable when it's in use. It also has secondary systems, but without the MT units the Tunnel Snakes are wiping out, they simply aren't a threat to a competent pilot.

It has emergency thermal dumps on the top for if enough secondary systems fail.

So three equally viable options: Mobility kill, thermal overload, or de-fanging it.

[ ] Mobility Kill.
[ ] Destroy the Weapons.
[ ] Thermal Overload.
>>
>>21697123
>[ ] Thermal Overload.

>[x] Destroy the Weapons.

I'm afraid that if we let them, they will just fire the missiles at random and the casualty rate on the civilian side will be enormous.
>>
>[ ] Destroy the Weapons.

The heatsinks are on the top right? wouldn't that make it harder to hit? Also, the wording implies that the dumps are if secondary systems fail, so we need to hit those first
>>
While one would definitely lower the possibility of collateral and one would make it a lot easier to kill, there's only one solid option for a direct kill.

You need to start destroying it's ability to vent. If it can't vent what's it's creating it'll either fry itself or be forced to shut-down.

Primary locations of thermal dispersal would be the point defense guns, the Large fore-legs and the connector unit to the abdomen in the back

Where to start?

[ ] Charge the Fore-Legs.
[ ] Shoot the turrets.
[ ] Attack the connector.

The best idea would be to attack the connector.

You perform a leap over the top of the machine, and land on its back.

You see the primary thermal conduit, sadly under some heavy shielding. Best way of destroying that would be to try and weaken it with a few blasts from your Rifle, and then slamming into it with your lance.

Can we use a fate point to reroll or lock >>21698094 ?
>>
>>21698128
Well, of all the times to use them a double crit fail seems like a good one. Because, damn.
>>
>>21698141
I'd go with a complete reroll.

Though it also seems that AC Guy has been waiting for this to happen.
>>
At least we still have Alex as a protagonist.

From twitter 15m ago:
AC-Guy @ArmoredQuest

@NekoDaimyo The dice seem to really like Liz for some reason. I wonder if it's because I expected her to be the main protagonist.

Ya jinxed it.

>So guys, good news, bad news time.

>Good news: you can buy off a critical failure with a fate-point.

>Bad news: you can buy off *A* critical failure with a Fate point.

>So I mean, you can lock that one roll and score a VERY good hit with the lance in exchange for a double-dose of dramatic misfortune.

>Or you can soften the blow and try to set up something else.

>I'll let you guys talk this one out.
>>
>>21698200
>double-dose of dramatic misfortune.

Hearing this from the misfortune master Acguy, I'm gonna go with the other option of softening the blow.
>>
>>21698200
Let's make it big. Lock in the hit, and take the bad.
>>
>>21698200
On a scale from 1-10 with 1 being a polite and honest conversation, and 10 being Jerry Springer how dramatic are we talking here? Same for misfortune, 1 being skipping through posies and 10 being your family being eaten by wolfbears?
>>
Rolled 42, 80 = 122

>>21698200
For dramatic purposes I say we lock the roll, fuck its shit up and ride the blast wave.
>>
>>21698230
>On a scale from 1-10 with 1 being a polite and honest conversation, and 10 being Jerry Springer how dramatic are we talking here? Same for misfortune, 1 being skipping through posies and 10 being your family being eaten by wolfbears?

Pretty sure we are talking about an 8 in both cases minimum.
>>
>>21698230

>Hard to rate it on your scale. 'Dramatic Misfortune' is a word I've been using in development of something that isn't Armored that I'm excited for.

>Basically, 'Misfortune' is something like taking a hit and having the wind knocked out of you. 'Dramatic Misfortune' is something like getting your arm broken.

>Both of them negatively impact a fight, but one is significantly worse than the other.
>>
>>21698264
>Basically, 'Misfortune' is something like taking a hit and having the wind knocked out of you. 'Dramatic Misfortune' is something like getting your arm broken.

I do not like this example, especially since we are in the middle of a battlezone.

Let's just lessen the blow and reroll, 1 broken arm> both arms broken.
>>
>>21698283
We'd be spending the point on cancelling one crit fail, we wouldn't have another to do the reroll, I think.
>>
>>21698311
>We'd be spending the point on cancelling one crit fail, we wouldn't have another to do the reroll, I think.

I thought the way to cancel it is to reroll it isn't it? Or do we use the fate point to only erase the 100 in the roll?
>>
>>21698334
If I'm understanding it right, the point goes exclusively to countering the critical fail.
>>
>>21698344
Well, regardless of how it works, I vote to soften the blow.
>>
>What's winning the vote?

>>21698344

>Udz has the right of it.

>>21698334

>The re-roll cancel only counts on non-criticals.
>>
>>21698407
>What's winning the vote?

Countering one of the critical fails.
>>
Rolled 53, 56, 83, 31 = 223

>>21698441

>Trusting Your word.

You miss dramatically with your gun, but manage to land with your Spear right on the prior made cracks.

You feel pain, but you ignore it just long enough to land the blow.

Your spear punctures through the casing, and pressurized coolant begins to spray everywhere. As it does, you feel your right arm catch fire.
>>
>>21698648
Well, that's bad.
>>
>>21698648
Jump backwards to some cover and do our best to put our arm out (jesus, did I just say "do our best to put our arm out"?).
>>
>>21698648

You realize what that pain earlier was with a sudden shock- one of the defense guns must have hit your arm. With the damage to it's structure it couldn't take the impact of the spear charge and was ripped to pieces by the impact.

Your mind's cool analytical nature shatters when the pain truly sets in.

It hurts. It hurts, and you want to run away. You want it to stop hurting.

>You guys need to roll a will save, target 40.

Alright, so, everybody here knows about the whole 'Mad Wizard Studios' thing I've been working on.

One of the suggestions from a friend of mine was that since I have the rights and permissions (either from creating them myself or having the direct permission of said creators) to a bunch of /tg/ related stuff, I could open a store thing online.

Stuff like T-Shirts and shit. Between the Mad Wizard stuff and the Consortium of Gentlegamers stuff, I would have a decent stock to begin with.

The idea was something like 80-90% to get some money going so I could focus more on actually getting the games and shit published. Along with other side projects.

I just... i don't know. I felt hesitant to do something like that, since it would be like selling out on some level. I'm not sure if that's a legit concern or if it's just my anxiety shit acting up, so I figured bringing it to you guys would be a good move.

There's other, more interesting news I'll share in the General thread I'll do tomorrow, since I didn't have time tonight.
>>
>>21698796
Nah, he just needs to instill the proper fear of AC Guy into the fire.
>>

>Selling out

No way, I can't imagine how that could be contrued as selling out at all. Hell I was about to say that although I'd be unlikely to buy a t-shirt myself (nothing personal, I'm just not a fan of those styles of shirts), I would be happy to donate money if it got you closer to publishing.

I know you may knock it back but consider putting a donation button on the webpage as well. You likely wont be able to publish from it (although looking at cool projects on kickstarter etc maybe you will) but it should certainly help. You have a fanbase, you have people who are interested in the project, you have people who actively want it and will pay for it. I think you can assume we want to help and will hold no ill-will towards you for selling some mechandise in order to further your current goals.

tl;dr Go for it! It's a great idea! Maybe also think about a donation button.
>>
>>21698842
Man, it's not selling out if it's your shit that you're selling.
>>
>>21698885

>>
>>21698842
T-Shirts always sell so you might make a decent profit from them. Just make sure you have a variety of sizes available and advertise the hell out of them.

>80,666~
>target was 40

Oh god, how many degrees of failure is this? Four?
>>
>>21698888
>>21698885

Mostly I'm thinking that leveraging my little amount of internet fame (and other people's, even if it's with their permission) to sell some variety of pointless bauble (like a T-shirt) so I can keep working on game stuff and not get a real job.... Feels wrong on some level, even if it's what I really want to do with my life.

Also my pitch amounts to 'I'm vaguely entertaining on an unreliable schedule! Like a web-comic with less talent! Buy a T-Shirt!'
>>
>>>>21698933
Understandable but I think you are being a little harsh on yourself. It's great that you aren't arrogant about what you are producing here but you do have fans that love it. Myself, I had never really known much about the setting and had a slightly difficult time following it at first. However, the writing was good, the story was great and the world was compelling. You did a great job of conveying all these things.

I get that it feels wrong, it probably feels like you are taking the "easy way out" by not working and selling some shirts and cups and crap. I promise you it wont be easy though, I'm sure intellectually you know this. Point is, it may feel wrong but this is obviouslly a passion of yours and you should do what you can to take hold of it and make it your own.

As for the schedule, we understand. The story is great and we'll take it when we can get it but if it becomes erratic then it's for a better cause. You are building something and that takes time and focus.
>>
>>21698977
Also people love to buy shit with their favourite quotes and characters and scenes etc on them so I think people would really love this idea.

Picture it: A shirt with the quote "GIVE ME YOUR FACE!"
>>
>>21698977
>>21699006
I think he's covered it pretty well.

I'm tired, and going to bed, though I do have one question:
What else are you going to use your internet fame for?
>>
>>21699006
Would anyone even recognize that's a quote? We haven't had Alex fight in his AC for 2 months.
>>
>>21698933
People make a lot of money while offering a lot less than you so AC Guy. Don't feel bad just make sure the shirts come in XXL so I can wear one without it being too short.
>>
>>21699064
We haven't seen Alex fight in a while but I am pretty sure people would recognize it. I remembered it off the top of my head (ok, I checked the archives before I clicked submit to make sure I wasn't making an ass of myself) but it's like his most memorable quote.

Maybe they wont, who knows, it's up to the readership to say if they did or not.
>>
Uuuh...I don't think this thread has been archived...someone might want to get on that.
