So I'm running an evil campaign, and I'm using an elf baby as a macguffin for my party that needs her alive because the devil they have a pact with needs the bloodline of her family alive.

This was troublesome because all of the survivors of her family were deranged assassins out to get the tiefling in our party, and the only one that we didn't slay and/or committed poison by suicide is this baby.

I half-heartedly wanted player shenanigans, trying to adventure with a baby, but just thought they'd dump her in an orphanage or something.

Still, players act as players do. Instead of that, they basically just threatened a kobold clan that basically worshiped our one dragonborn fighter and told them to keep her safe for a hundred years while they go off to the Astral Sea for the rest of this part of the campaign.

The baby is actually a big part of the puzzle box prop that I gave my party. I put a message in the box that basically tells the party that she is something that can be used against the "good" fey gods when they try to take over power portfolios, so I can't handwave her away or just leave her forever with the kobolds as the party will come back eventually.

Help me, /tg/! How the fuck would a kobold raised by elves act like without it being a stupid concept?
>>
>>21704519

>elf raised by kobolds

Fuck, I'm stupid on /tg/ too...
>>
First, she's extremely respectful and maybe envious of dragons. If this is 3.5, make her a dragonfire adept, if not, make her a sorceress. She also has a fondness for traps - she'll only fight fair if she has no other choice. Her long lifespan has make her a mainstay of the kobold tribe for literally generations before she's an adult - she should be very adept at leading stealthy groups of trap-making kobolds who about one-twentieth her age.
>>
>>21704589

>a society that does nothing but build traps
>collected knowledge of at least 5 generations of kobold trap builders

This elf child. She will destroy your party before she even sees them.
>>
>"Haha! Finally, we have retrieved Pelor's gauntlet and can now return to the Abyss to conquer a realm for each of us! Now if we can just get back to the swamp were we left that elf brat..."
>"SO MANY PIT TRAPS! HOW ARE THERE PIT TRAPS IN OPEN WATER?!?!?!"

I like it.
>>
Looks like your players have...dug themselves a pit trap...

Please do the master-trapster elf...and crank it up to CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDD levels.
>>
OP. Okay, so we have an elf sorceress who can make traps so good that she's basically as good at trapmaking as dwarves are at complaining about human blacksmiths. She should probably be shy and disliking of non-reptilian humanoid races, and probably slouch most of the time because she grew up in caves sized for small creatures.
>>
Give her a god complex. Those kobolds will probably treat her super nice if a dragonborn tells them to, and the passage of time will just give her a swelled ego.
>>
>Dude, there is no way that a lvl 16 rogue would miss a perception check on a pit trap. What was the difficulty?
>57. I just multiplied it by five.
>>
utterly devoid of the value of life and love. When it takes your care takers a generation just to replace your diaper your not going to grow up well balanced.
>>
Heck, the skills she have, and the potential god-complex, since she has outlived her foster parents, and their children, and their children for a total of five generations, she may well believe she is the god of trapmaking, and be worshiped as such a god.
>>
"You, kobold gnat! Where is the elfling that I left in your people's care decades ago? We need it now. Bring her here, and be quick about it!"

"Actually, I'm not a kobold. I'm just a bomb that looks like one."

"OH FUUUU~~~~~!!!"

"That's the fucking third time today..."
>>
>>21704912

Why do you think she'd have a god complex?

Honestly, I'd see her as having a DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS DRAGONS mindset, all day every day. Like "when I grow up, I wanna be a dragon!"
>>
>>21704842

"You're a shitty DM. We're going home."
>>
As the child of the dragon god she would be revered and protected above all else
She would get first choice of sheep to eat and all the best roughspun of the clan
>>
>>21704974

>home is now a giant mousetrap
>>
>>21704519

Not really related to anything, but you use "basically" waaaay too much in the OP. Get a thesaurus, knigga.
>>
OP, you know /tg/ will just make her rub noses with all those svelte kobolds running around at her disposal.
>>
>>21705002

And that's the problem with letting Jigsaw host and run your DnD campaign.
>>
>You'd think the forest would run out of trees with all these punji traps around.

>Oh no, those aren't trees. You guys have just been wandering around an EVEN BIGGER punji trap

The party then notices the titan skeletons skewered by the trees.
>>
So she'd be an adolescent elf. And the aged, ancient matron of the kobold clan.

This... this is going to fuck everybody the fuck up. I like the trapmaker idea, but there should be more dimensions than just LOLTRAPS.

For instance: what would this do to the KOBOLDS? Five-seven-however-many generations ago, the Dragon-Blooded One set them upon this sacred task, and for [ARBITRARY TIME LENGTH] they've succeeded. In the beginning, it was almost impossible. The conditions were wrong, the food was wrong. There were several panicked undertakings to obtain enough things so that she didn't just die from lack of care. Then she aged, came into her own, and started gaining power as a sorceress(/thief). Cue renaissance. She can pull enough food to keep half the tribe fed. She can scare off monsters that would wipe out a dozen adults. They gain insight into their history and ancestry, as she was ACTUALLY THERE and KNEW THESE KOBOLDS. Perhaps they've become more cultured, as the rare state of surplus lets them specialize. They're probably at the top of the shit heap within their own very limited frame of reference.
>>
>>21705156

>"Most Revered and Ancient Long-Ears the Smoothscaled, tell us, how many mutton shanks did Krakakakakaraka the gluttonous really consume in his legendary duel against the dreaded Bullywug chieftain?"

I dunno. Maybe five? It was, like, a month ago. I can't really remember...

>"FIVE! Let the records show that Krakakakakaraka truly did eat five village worth's of sheep in the ages of myth! SO IT CAME FROM THE MOUTH OF THE HORRENDOUSLY OLD AND WIZENED CRONE LONGEARS THE SMOOTHSCALED!"

>... THE HORRENDOUSLY OLD AND WIZENED CRONE LONGEARS THE SMOOTHSCALED!

>>
This entire scenario raises an interesting question. If the Dragonborn instructed the Kobolds to raise this elf girl, would they think she was some sort of "Chosen One" who would fulfill some epic destiny? Is that how it works in fantasy? A baby raised by another race because of reasons automatically becomes the Chosen One?
>>
>>21705303

Probably. Really, it just depends on if the kobolds have an opinion of elves or not.

If the kobolds know what elves are, they'd probably just raise her to the letter of the dragonborn's orders.

If the kobolds have never seen or heard of an elf, this is probably like some alien god child that they have to treat very carefully for lack of any knowledge of it.
>>
>>21705303
Well, if said baby was given to them by a perceived god, then probably. Maybe when the party returns, the elf girl has disappeared, leaving the kobolds who raised her to find her destiny (as told to her by the kobold shamans/high priests/what-have-you).
>>
>>21705156
i think theyd specialize, too. it would be like when the first cities formed. people are specializes and get paid in rations, everything is organized through a single person, the head priest/ little elven girl. a huge organisation body is formed in which the central person does less and less self and everybody kind of starts running on its own. after some time its too much for just spoken language and symbols and token are formed, which, after several generations, start evolving into written language with logograms. art, architecture blossom, everything is pretty much awesome for the kobolds. they would expand and start trading with others around them and get a really big thing. so, in other words, there is no way your players are not up against several legions of angry, desperate but spuririsingly well organized kobolds when they come to snatch that cultural advantage back from them

its even logical for her to start organizing all that shit, since when she sees several generations blossom and die with the same problems over and over, shed want for them to live better and longer.

and all that without even tapping into magic...
>>
>>21705373

"Hey, Lightningbreath. Are you sure this map is right? There shouldn't be a city here."

"Yeah, I'm sure. Damn, this place was just a bog when we came through. I guess some nutjob clerics made set up this place for the goddess they keep plastering up on walls and stuff..."
>>
>TRAPS FOR THE TRAP GODDESS! SCALES FOR THE SCALE THRONE!

I imagine her obsessed with dragonscales and decking herself out in reptilian garb to hide her ugly "smoothness".
>>
>>21705363
Not OP, but see now i have this idea for a campaign where the party returns from whatever it is they were doing and are told by the Kobolds how the elf girl left to find her destiny after being informed of her past.

The party then has to track her down and it becomes a year-spanning chase as they keep missing each other or she's always gone by the time they show up. Since they need her to figure out their OWN destinies, they can't help but continue on or risk disaster.

The joke is she actually does forge a mighty destiny and becomes a celebrated heroine and the party is always running into the fallout of the events surrounding her.

How would such a story end?
>>
>>21705449
This. I like the idea of the swamp being taken over

You haven't DMed yourself into a corner here OP, you've DMed yourself into awesome.

Your players will remember this forever.

If there are Devils involved, perhaps she could even be a warlock?
>>
>>21705477
Especially if the party is evil (which is the impression i got: abducting small elf girl so that their ties with a devil may remain? probably not the most morally sound folks.)
>>
>>21705373
i actually study neareastern archaeology and assyriology. i could go on and on about the society of the first cities ever, if you want
>>
>>21705477

Well, the main thing is that they have to keep her alive. Dunno if the OP reposted in this thread at all, so I can't trust any of the other posts about info.

The only things that are really known are that the party is evil, has a tiefling and a dragonborn who is revered as a god by kobolds, that they deal with devils, and that they have to keep the girl alive.

Sounds like one of those "Save the cheerleader, save the world" dealies.
>>
>>21705477
That would be pretty cool. The players could even become the BBEGs of the setting as they continue to pursue the elf girl and try to get a hold of her through any means possible, up to and including violence. The players aren't necessarily evil, they just want to figure out their own destinies, like you said.
>>
Duuuuuude, that could be such a fucking headcaver.

Dragon-themed trapmaster elf sorceress goes around, becoming an epic hero, doing good and maybe even allying with Bahamut.

And then she has a Luke moment when finally facing her Dragonborn "dad".

Duuuuuuude.
>>
>>21705534
And then it turns out the destiny the elf girl was originally supposed to fulfill is to slay the party because they've done such ruthless things to try and get her back.

And the party's destiny was ironically used to ensure that they would get themselves killed by the girl, thus fulfilling the overall destiny
>>
>>21705560
No party, you are the BBEG.
>>
>>21705610

And then the party's evil souls would be sent to become the slaves of the devil that originally made a pact with them!

Fucking gold!

GM, you should thank us for making this campaign for you.
>>
>>21705610
Cue laughing demons that the OP talked about. Also, I just realized that OP said that it was an evil campaign, so all this is total plausible and acceptable.
>>
>>21705534

Well, the OP did state that they were in an evil game, bro.
>>
>>21705521
Well don't let us stop you.
>>
>>21705521

>>21705679
it was the time when the social norms were set. religion was in the process of forming and local deities were synonymous with the political influence of their cities. most of the early babylonian mythology can be traced back to the political issues of their cities in early sumerian times. the ceramics became crud and dirty, obviously mass produced. to organize so many people, they started stamping everything with symbols of what it contains and then later stamping seals with their personal stamps. since they lacked iron, all wars were fought with daggers and spears. huge temple mountains, known as ziqqurats, were created, simply by rebuilding the head temple so often without cleaning the ruins of the one before that it became a mountain. the palace was synonymous with the religion and kings were those who could perform the annual religious rituals and were in holy matrimony with their god. they soon started to develop a huge legal system, too. rituals like a kings hunt of lions started as a symbol for the power of the civilized man over nature, which was a huge battle back then. also, everybody was drunk all the time, even the gods were drunk in most of their stories.

the first empire was sargon of akkade in 2450 BCE, with more clever organisation in the cities but also with improved weaponry. horses were another push. other interesting tidbits include: hittites knew no temples but sacred mountains and meadows, some palaces were build so they look awesome from within but shitty on the outside, trade colonies far away from their cities started spreading and were the reason for economical success.

i tried to filter only the stuff useful for kbold city building, forgive me if i rambled a bit

>>
>>21705700
i figured the swamp didnt matter because, as i forgot to write, the key to all that shit was enough food to even have something to organize. they built a quite complex and ingenious system to water their fields with the small problem that it brought enough salt to the plains that it became a desert after 5000 years. before they started, though, it was nothing but a huge swamp with trees to shitty to build with
>>
This is where every elf adventurer comes from, I'm sure of it.

OP could combine them into one. The elf girl is left with the kobolds to be raised, and the party leaves t odo their thing. After the elf girl grows up a bit, she begins to help advance their society, providing food and cultural ideas like >>21705156 said. After many years (and kobold generations) she is seen as a goddess. Eventually, she leaves the kobolds to find her destiny as detailed in >>21705303 and >>21705363.

>>
>>21706384
already did, mate. well, its more a not- babylonian city in a swamplike jungle, but i think it qualifies.

imagine a swamp with nothing for building but mud. so they start tu use that mud to form bricks. also, they dry the swamp to grow stuff.
anyways, fastforward. all those old mud buildings collapse and make the floor for new buildings, so it slowly becomes a mountain. in the middle of the mountain, now deep underground, is the templepalace, kept dark and mystical to not reveal the hideousness of the smoothscale, allmother of the kobolds. only 10% of the people can read and write, most lore is told from generation to generation. the writers handle the paperwork of the city and are summoners and fortune tellers. the vast majority of the people owns some land on which they grow stuff to feed them and their clan, while some are specialized in either building traps for enemies or clearing lowlevel dungeon runs to get more magic support. the city slowly becomes a tradespot for shady races that are not at war with the kobolds, making it like a city sized dungeon after some time. the noble races may try to destroy the city only to be met by forced of various savage races with the kobold goddess in her magical dragon armor as a tactician. it would be glorious.

>Captcha: rageamba committee

>>
Don't Kobolds have no upper age limit, and only really die from from "old age" because by that time they are usually in a high position and resort to be lazy fucks?
>>
>>21706529

I find it funny that the Rageamba Committee would be replaced every decade.
>>
>>21706548

So would Smoothscale be a lazy fuck then?
>>
>>21706452
Well I mean, I was thinking a mostly wood city, but everything is covered.
So there's the outer wall, then just above midway on the inner side is the covering, which stretches across the city and is covered in leather and steel to protect from sunlight and fires, and then under that, it's essentially an eternal dusk, with 'buildings' and honeycombed everything.
Essentially a giant artificial above-ground cave.
I'd draw a sketch in Paint, but I'm on my phone
>>
>>21706569

Naw man, don't do that! I'm already getting emotionally invested in this elf chick.
>>
>>21706569
well, everything we have up to now assumes that she isnt. technically the party could just return to her lying naked in the mud and being fed to the mouth by kobolds.
>>
>>21706569
No, dude. She still has to leave the city to fulfill her (and the party's) destiny. Think about it. It is a time of great mourning as the kobolds' goddess leaves them, perhaps for good. If she does return, none of the kobolds now living will be alive for her glorious and triumphant return. She has left, and possibly inspired particularly devout kobolds to take a pilgrimage out into the wilderness themselves. Whether they return is not guaranteed, but if they do return, they bring new materials and ideas to the kobold metropolis in the swamp
>>
>>21706569

Nah, she'd still be young, and most likely have bullshit amounts of fun making traps and practicing magic.

But that guy is right I believe, Kobolds, or at least Lizard / Draconic Kobolds, don't have an upper age limit and can live for stupidly long amounts of time, it's just that they are so easy to kill it's not funny and everything does it quite frequently, so when one lives long enough to be significantly older than most of the other adults he gets shoved into a comfy spot and enjoys it, that's why most Chiefs are fat fucks and a bunch of the older magic users are weak as shit physically.

A gluttonous chief is pretty much guaranteed to be assassinated at some point and a physically weak sorcerer / mage is going to "replaced" by a student or suffer an accident.
>>
>>21706750
so under the rule of smoothscale and the rageamba committee, they would become like elves but small, scaly and mean?

clearly Lawful Evil by raising, but probly graduating to Lawful Neutral from her adventuring experience.

Law is required, its how her people advanced to better lives, right? But how oppressive it is can differ.

There was a later one that basically had a party of elves.

Sandwich of course
Goldentusk, the Orc Raised elf
Keekee The kobold raised elf
Violet The Halfling raised elf
And Professer Idontfuckingremember the elf raised dorf.

really only Sandwhich and goldentusk were put up as being good, Keekee was a close third with the other two being largely considered shit.

Oh jesus, too many posts to read through.

>Well, if said baby was given to them by a perceived god
I like the idea of the child growing up thinking that your dragonborn fighter is her right and proper father of Divine Nature. Even if she finds out he's not particularly divine she merely makes excuses such as "You are simply embodying mortal form"
And the idea of her constantly calling a PC "Father" will add so much awkward humor to your game.

>Kobolds and Dragon
Whatever she turns out to be, make her a Half-Dragon too. Close proximity of Kobolds all day long plus her strange bloodline power, caused her to mutant. Demon-Dragon-Elf. More over making her think she is the child of a true god.

>Personality quirk
I wouldn't give her a god complex, I'd give her more of a preacher complex
"I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE GREAT FIGHTERMcDRAGON BORN DEGREED THIS UPON MY BIRTH HERE! THERE FOR OUR GODS WILL, WILL BE IMPOSED.

>Traps
Also. I second getting back to her should a kind of dungeon run of avoiding Traps, Snaps, and Golems.
After all, only the true god FighterMcDragonborn and his disciples could possibly make it through the death-trap-swamp.
>>
>>21709246

one sorceror/rogue with decades of time and a devout clan of followers to assist.
>>
>>21709301
Point taken.
So every trap is magical, but some more than others. There are basic pit traps that have magic acid shit, and complex rooms where it starts filling with infinite water when there's no source for the water at all
>>
If you would be a keeper, then you must hear the tale, from my own tongue, as it was told to me, in the time before. In the long long ago, when the stars had no names and the blades and the arts were unfasioned, nor anything fashioned but Swamp, and the arch of the Sky. A great spirit came before the True People, wreathed in flame. The reeds that remember were unfasioned then and its name has been lost to us though its glory endures. It knew that we the True People are most worthy and bound us to a covenant both terrible and great. It placed a wonder into our keeping. An egg that was a child, pale and smooth but animate and awake, unborn, forever becoming new. The eggchild wept for life times when the great spirit and its host departed. Though we fed it serpents blood and the eggs of the false people who dwelt on the edge of Swamp in those days. Until it came to know us and the tongue of the True People instead of the spirit tongue it knew in those first days. And it dwelt with us forever and ever, always pale, always becoming new. It spent lifetimes among the elders until every secret was known to it and it was unrivaled in every craft then known to the True People. In those days there arose a sorcerer, now unnamed, who dreampt true dreams and who had learned from mother cricket the words that bring sleep, so that he was invincible in battle. And he became lord of all those living, save the eggchild who is spirit and not bound by law. So that he became afraid and said that the eggchild had come to resemble the wicked spirits that beset the True People, weren’t their eyes like clear water? Wasn’t their skin pale and smooth, weren’t their crests limp and gold? Some believed him and forsook the ancient covenant. But most remained true.
>>
Though he has been unnamed his hubris must never be forgotten. Rather than chose war he challenged the eggchild to single combat, though she pleaded. Some laws are too strong even for spirits. She and he faced each other in the circle of law. He in his gaudy raiment of feathers and rare bones, she unadorned, ever pale, ever new. He spoke the secret words and all around her the power of mother grasshopper forced spectators to their knees. Though she remained inviolate. Again and again the words fell like thunder and the sorcerers power hung thick in the shuddering air until he was completely spent. She pleaded then, but some laws are too strong even for spirits. She killed him, though it took some time as she is holy and without claws, and she wept, for she loved him, as she loves all True People. She became lord of Swamp and all those living. She took a name then, as it the right of the victor. A mortal name, though she is spirit and the living covenant of spirit, she is also our leader, our beloved, Smoothscale. Ever pale, forever becoming new.

These were not the people she had known.

The attendant that greeted her as she made her way through the obsidian arcs bearing her visage was not the vizier with the half-torn ear she had reared from a hatchling to a wizened elder.

These were not the guards that she had trained under her watchful eye, their armor no longer simple shells of iron but now gleaming steel reflecting her face.

The handmaids that took her robes and her staff were not the ones that she had spent so many afternoons listening to with their dreams and hopes.

These were not the faces she remembered as she waded through the cheering crowd, so unlike the sea of mournful faces she had left in her wake when she had left her city lifetimes ago, with towering statues of her likeness.

But one face did greet her still. A face from the past, scales faded, eyes milky and ivory, trembling and clutching a staff not unlike her own, though he leaned on the rod while she strode without minding a single step.

“Ah... goddess... it has been so long. There were times that they... the young ones... they told me that you had returned, but all of them were... they were not you, your grace... But! These eyes of mine can no longer see, but you... you are still you...” the ancient one wheezed, coughing, but smiling through it all.

Her hand touched his leathery face, and she smiled in turn.

“Yes... and I am glad that you... all of you... are still as I remembered.”

No, these were not the people she had known, save one.

But still they were her people.

I mentioned the dragon pact bit earlier... I'd like to remind people that warlocks just barter with higher powers to obtain their own, they don't necessarily need to hold to similar alignments as the things they receive them from.

That said what you barter with for your power can easily be telling of your alignment - star pacts barter with eldritch gods, fey pacts with fey creatures, 'traditional' warlocks with devils (this is all 4e fluff I know) but for someone who's raised by kobolds and reveres dragons so much a dragon pact would make sense, and as elves are usually chaotic, a chaotic neutral making a pact with an 'evil' dragon wouldn't be beyond belief.

I actually wrote the first writefaggotry for Sandwich the drow paladin, and thought that it would be fun to make an "evil" version of her. There was never any campaign like I posted in the OP, though kudos to you guys for fleshing out a really great story. Canonically, Sandwich and Smoothscale share the same setting and will actually cross paths every so often. There's just one problem with this:
>The party then has to track her down and it becomes a year-spanning chase as they keep missing each other or she's always gone by the time they show up. Since they need her to figure out their OWN destinies, they can't help but continue on or risk disaster.

Shouldn't the party be reality breaking characters by that point? I don't think an elf girl who's probably not even level 3 could keep eluding them just like that.

"YOU'RE Smoothscale the Horrifically Ancient, Dreadfully Wizened, and Particularly Aged Crone?"

Sandwich couldn't help but ogle at the slight elvish waif sitting high above a mountain of glittering treasure on a throne of pilfered bar stools.

"Silence! You shall address the Goddess-Spirit with respect!" the wriggling vizier barked, still full of fire and fervor even after the drow paladin had beaten it half to death to reach the innermost sanctum of the kobold fortress.

Sandwich couldn't believe it. All the insane and eldritch traps. The numerous hordes of magical golems and constructs. The endless hordes of martially superior dragonkin. All of that and a void chasm to the Abyss that took the rest of her adventuring party, wrapped around the fingers of A BORED LITTLE GIRL?!?!

"Goddess or not, you're going to pay, Smoothscale! By the Bushy Beard of the Dwarf Kings, I ~"

Sandwich's tirade was cut short as she heard a mechanical click echo through the hoard chamber. She heard the vizier snicker in her grasp, and the scaly little freak wriggled out of his robes and skittered off into the piles of gold.

"Trap doors. You aren't very perceptive, are you?" she heard the lilting voice of elvish youth ring out in the hallway, as Smoothscale gave her an innocent smile.

"Curse youuuuuuu......!~*" Sandwich screamed out in the few seconds she had left before plummeting down into inky darkness. The cogs and gears of the trap reset, and the vizier wheezed, thankful that the whole business was concluded.

"She was rather competent, wasn't she?" Smoothscale said, and the vizier nodded vehemently, always taking the words of his Goddess to heart.

"Ah well. A good distraction. Let's see which traps they went through and how we can make them better!" Smoothscale said, grinning as she hopped off of her throne.

The vizier nodded again, scurrying off at his deity's tiny heels.

Hundreds of hit points, fly, flying familiar with half her hit points as a meatshield, dive with a lance, only use her 1st level spells for Mage Armor and Shield. Fuck shit up. I like this. Have her class into trap making as well though. Are there good feats for trap making that can be easily taken with a warrior dragon class like this?

Bro. What I have described to you is "she becomes the Balrog." She does not have traps. She has people to set traps. She is not a trap-setter, she is a dark god. She delegates.

At first the party is annoyed they cannot find the old kobold tribe. After asking about, they discover the tribe has joined many tribesmigrating into an underground city built by a completely different race. How and why the original population was displaced is a matter of rumor, but many kobold tribes are coming from all over. Some rumors say it is political, others military, others spiritual, but all agree it is successful.

Traps annoy the party while they make their way through the ruined city, great tracts of which are still empty. The party does just fine dealing with all their traps, and then they do even better when it comes to killing the kobolds themselves, until Balrog. If you must have her set some trap, have her blow up a bridge, because she can totally fly and fight the party while they're falling.

After defeating the Balrog-esque Dragon Disciple, they find it was the little elfin child all along. Brainwashed into dragon worship by the kobolds, she used her latent power to become a dragon, and then lead her people as their god to found a kobold nation.

Only read 12/15th through the thread, I hope no one realise this:

If she is already adult, or at least late teen, she has probably had sex. And considering her options? With a kobold. And don't pretend it won't happen.

I know it won't affect the outcome of anything at all, but just thought it would be worth reminding you.

Also, someone briefly covered this, Kobolds are usually Lawful Evil. I think she should be something along the lines of this, it is in her nature to be 'good' but she has basically grown up around people with a 'Oooh, shiny! Give me!' attitude, when she can't have whatever she wants outside the Kobold city, she'll get it anyway, by force or bargains.

And I really like the idea of her becoming 'evil' since this is an evil game, I mean, as much as we like the Good old "Luke, I'm your father!" followed by a "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I'd find it more cliché/trope breaking with a "Smoothskin, I'm your father!" followed by a "I'm SO fucking joining you guys!", making her lovable for the players, perhaps letting them even questioning if risking her life is worth it and if there is some way to follow their end of the deal that won't lead to her death.

Nobody tell him!

Let him read trough the thread!
>>
>>21712491

Haha very funny, done reading the thread now.
Wrote that meant to be sarcastic, then I actually laughed.

Even if what >>21711178 says is true, I still think this is a jolly good show. I usually dislike /tg/'s OC waifus - I mean X adopted by Y has been done a few dozens time by now - but I still think most of what I said actually has some point more or less.

1. She'll - depending on how long time she is with the kobold - go through a phrase of sexual self-exploration, which means that she might end up having sex with a kobold. Yes I refuse to let that go.
2. Once the "players" (real or not) meet her, a "Smoothskin, I'm your father!" "I am so joining you guys!" exchange makes slightly more sense than a "Smoothskin, I am your father!" exchange "Nooooo!"

Other than that, I really like the idea of industrialised kobolds, but then again, it has been done more often than X raised by Y.

>>
>>21712620
>>21712633

How about I leave, but my fetish stays?

Just kidding though, I have no such fetish, I just happen to think of stuff everyone else'd rather oversee or forget.

For example is there a limit to how much Smoothskin herself can technologically advance the society? I say yes, although most of /tg/ might disagree.
>>
>>21712696
there is a limit, although if you have various shortlived generations there can be a lot achieved. if they indeed are isolated from all outside sources of technology, which is unlikely, it would go like i described earlier in this thread(im the assyriologyfag). and then you still have magic, which can do a fuckton to screw normal developement and jumpstart such things
>>
>>21712721
>assyriologyfag

I appreciated it a lot, and to be honest, way more useful than most of the stuff I'd ever contribute to when it comes to Kobolds.
>>
>>21712696
She can become a half dragon via Dragon Disciple. Kobolds worship dragons. With a single person in charge, their society can advance. When that person is a dragon, they can advance over the broken corpses of those who dared defy them.
>>
>>21712846

Trying to make her less Mary Sue-ish here, so bear with me saying something outrageous here.

Same idea (single person in charge, advance over corpses of those who dared to defy them) could be applied to some of the dictators of the world. I mean sure one could take Hitler or Stalin as an example to justify the advancement of Kobold society.

But you could take the same idea and apply to Enver Hoxha, the Albanian communist leader or Yugoslavian leader Josip Broz Tito... and both Albania and Yugoslavia totally tech'd up and kicked everyone's ass technologically, right? Not really.

Point is, I agree she can help them with limited technological advancement, but beyond that?
And if she becomes Supreme-Über-Comrade-Chairman-Führer of the Kobold society, she has more important stuff to do than sit around and try to perfect weapon making.

Elves spend a hundred years before they become an adult, and kobolds generations are in, what, a bit more than a decade?
She'd still be a child as the kobolds raised her successive generation over generation, and most of kobold society is all taught by word of mouth.
What I'm getting at is that they're clever and probably pretty good at thinking laterally- which, if you have an entire society thinking laterally, means that the 'bolds are trying out ideas all over the place- most ideas which don't get passed down by word of mouth, but those same ideas would probably be remembered by Smoothskin herself. Ideas she'd be able to distill into something workable.
>>
>>21712960

Always a pleasure.

>>21712969

Which is why I agree to them having some technological advancement which still isn't on par with Humans/Elves/Dwarfs but pretty ass kicking compared to other Kobolds.

I mean, look at all the different kind of craftsmanship there is, just off the top of my head:
Fishing
Sailing
Shipmaking
Mining
Metalurgy
Wood-crafting
Cooking

And probably a lot more, are you going to claim that she single handedly can advance every single one of those fields to far lengths within one lifetime?

One thing is for sure then, she didn't choose intelligence as her dumb stat. That is my last comment as for now, not out of spite though if that is what you think.
>>
>>21713048
those kobolds would specialize. all she would have to do is organize and make sure that everybody gets enough food and technological advancement can start.

What >>21713062 said, but you do have a point- things still definitely wouldn't be on par with humans, elves and dwarves, but I could see them hyper-focusing on, say, traps and food production, but completely ignoring sailing or shipmaking. Plus, at least one effect on the kobold clan's society would be that they're much more united than they were- having some sort of messiah as your ruler, no matter how young they are, is definitely going to have a unifying effect, maybe even to the point of other clans coming into the fold eventually.

Just out of curiosity, but does Smoothscale fight? Like, actually fight? I honestly don't know. I mean, people throw out that she's an assassin by blood and hanging out with kobolds, but does that actually mean anything? Nature vs nurture and all.

I can see her being a sorceress, but it also feels like a lot of people are digging a Warhammer Lizardman Mayan Amazon theme for her too.

Just wanted to know what other people think. I'm too much on the fence about it.
>>
>>21720404
im still digging the commander theme where she just organizes stuff and sends specialized kobold units to fight threats
>>
>>21704796
>Give her a god complex. Those kobolds will probably treat her super nice if a dragonborn tells them to, and the passage of time will just give her a swelled ego.

Didn't those kobolds worship that guy? What you have here is a reasonably powerful sorceress/omgtrapseverywhere who expects to marry a god.
>>
>>21720404
She's a sorceress, but she's too busy managing her kobolds to actually go out and fight herself.
It's not that she can't, it's that there are more important things for her to do
>>
I can totally imagine her overseeing a bunch of worker kobolds as they erect obelisks and totem poles with dragon, kobold, and her own face as themes all over the swamp/bog/city/wherever.
>>
>Give her a god complex. Those kobolds will probably treat her super nice if a dragonborn tells them to, and the passage of time will just give her a swelled ego.

I'd expect the exact opposite: Crushing depression. When she's a young child, the kobold babies that were babies with her are already in their subjective teens. When she's subjective 10-12, the friends she makes that are her subjective age will be subjective adults with children by the time she's in her mid-teens.

She is FOREVER gaining status slower than her peers, and her peers are forever rising out of her position.
>>
>>21720404
Well there's still some contention on what her 'class' actually is. Whether it be sorceress (which is more around actually organizing shit), Dragon Pact Warlock (this would make her more of a 'fighter'), or rogue/barbarian/dragon disciple what have you.

Even as one of the aforementioned I think she'd be more oriented around leading her kobolds (and being slightly lazy at times) than fighting - she doesn't seem to be particularly motivated beyond 'expand the empire' as we've fluffed her.
>>
>>21720587

Yeah, but I think she'd have it figured out in a rudimentary sense by the time that she's 50-60. Maybe not crushing depression, but she probably is pretty bummed out to see people die all the time. Eventually, though, she'll be so high up in status no matter how long she took to get there that no one can live long enough to have any authority over her.

Plus she already has a lot of clout as the special interest of the tribe's dragon god to begin with.
>>
>>21720645
this might destroy her as a beautiful, perfect waifu, but what about a physically lazy but strategically intelligent empress? she does nothing but sit on her ass all day and organize her empire and maybe still does some sorcerering. it would fit with what some guy said about older kobolds, that they tend to become lazy fucks, but still keeps her essence. the only thing is that it takes, at least partly, her playfulness and also her imaginative hotness, which is probably why people will hate this suggestion
>>
>>21720587
But she'd already be at the top of the status ladder. She is a ward placed directly in their community by their divine master. Few would even be allowed to approach her. She might become depressed just from the boredom of it, but no one could ever surpass her position in the community

Wouldn't be that different from aztec type kings. They're important and looked upon as living gods, which means they get to be lazy a lot of the time... but a lot of them were quite brilliant when it came to certain things.

And as assyria-whatever-guy up there said, 'early' rulers were at once both religious and political figures. Making her a sorceress / warlock plays on the fact that she's probably highly intelligent (and very powerful to the average kobold) something of a 'living god' among them able to organize and expand their territory from 'swamp caves' into 'swamp kingdom'.

When nothing pressing is happening she can usually be found lazing about amongst her treasures, when something important is going on she's at the forefront of it.

Great keeper, I beseech you hear from my own tongue as it was told to me such of the tale as is not mine whilst you were in the northern marches. I have become afraid. The sea spirits came from the uttermost east, beyond the arch of the sky, wherein the sun is born, to fantastical to be real. The fish wives and the keepers of the eastern marches could not believe their eyes and so sent no word to City, until it was too late. The sea spirits rode on a wooden thing, not unlike a skiff, but comically, impossibly huge. They had chained a great white cloud to a tree so tall it scraped the rim of the sky and forced it to drag them across the great expanse of dead water. Their monstrous thing came so close that its shadow darkens the edge of Swamp. From its heaving bulk the Sea spirits disgorged lesser, mortal, craft that clove Swamps black water. On these they rode their crests the color of dawnlight and their silver scales burnished gold in the light of the sun though their eyes were dark. Their voices boomed, they laughed and cawed in alien tongues and drove their strange skiffs ever closer to City and the thousand white pillars of smoke that bind Swamp and Sky. They moved ever on, as the sun died, and whispered to little stars on poles that shone with silver light and held fires in their hands but did not cook or drink their heat. These were spirits of the sun and the Sky and they could not abide the dark.
>>
They rested by turns and fits and took dried meat and by dawntide they had reached City that is the sacred bond between Swamp and Sky. By this time word had come and a hasty delegation was assembled when they came to ground about the pens where the catfish spawn. The delegation was richly adorned and came bearing honey ants from the furthest west and fine white grubs on plates of burnished gold, and burnt sweet moss and bowed. But these spirits were great indeed and were unimpressed. They laughed hollowly and strode forward, their great grey scales clinking dangerously. The greatest of their number snatched one of the heaping plates and cast its offering into the ponds so that the catfish hissed and roiled. And pointed fervently at the plate. It and its host herded the delegation into City, barking in its strange tongue and laughing, enamored of a serving plate. But strange are the ways of strange spirits. The delegation lead them past the spirulina ponds and the high arches of the outer ring, to the royal road that leads to the ziggurat of skies where dwell those who name the stars, whose blood is bound to fire. Where waited spirit and the covenant of spirit behind the bronze mask of office, for her true face is strange and terrible and known only to we keepers. The sea spirits marveled at her raiment and clucked in their alien tongue though they were taller than she, what is height to a god. They were all of them incapable of true speech. Though at last a messenger spirit managed to stumble through a greeting in the tongue of mother serpent. A tongue long known to the wise from the first days. So in this way they haltingly parlayed, a haughty spirit and a living god. “Give us all you serving plates!” croaked the lesser spirit. The goddess laughed.
>>
The first among the host drew its scepter in anger then and smashed the long snout of our ladies holy mask so that it was torn from her and clattered down the steps of the ziggurat to the host below. The spirit gasped then and fell back as it beheld the true face of a living god. Smoothescales golden crest fluttered in the high wind and a mote of blood swelled on her pale lips like dark wine, she spat, forever marking the 174th step as holy. Her eyes were cold as the sky and the sea spirit stood transfixed by her gaze for it must have known then that she was the daughter of a dragon and her tongue was the tongue of a dragon. She spoke then, in the first tongue that cannot be learned or taught, only known. And the silver scales of the haughty spirit shone red in the noon light and soon began to glow. It bellowed and swung its scepter but she slipped beneath and knocked the heavy spirit from its footing so that it tumbled down the face of the ziggurat and smoked and shone cherry red and stank of meat. The rest of its host were taken each in their turn. She turned to me then and smiled “Karuk, bring to me that creature, I have never known a spirits meat, but it smells…divine.”

How I wish that were the end of it. Ever after she has looked with longing to the east. That great accursed thing still hangs dead in the water. Casting its shadow in the eastern marches. It calls to her great keeper, I know it. I have become afraid.
