Hey Guys, it was recently pointed out that AC-Quest is kind-of a brick wall for people wanting to get involved, since we now have more than sitxy threads in the archives.

Also, Holy shit. I've been running a quest for sixty threads. That's a hard fact for me to comprehend.

Anyway, the idea here was to start periodically making re-cap threads for people who want to join in but not read an enormous back-log right off the bat. I mean, it's arguably better to just go back and read the archives so that you get the full experience and hear all the jokes, but I digress.

So in this thread, assuming you're reading this in the archives as intended, will be me and some willing quest regulars talking about the game thus far. Sprinkled with will be bits of fluff and crunch to help better explain the circumstances, as well as flesh out the setting and the characters more.

Hopefully this will prove helpful for new readers and old ones who want to get back in for one reason or another. For those who've been faithful followers already, feel free to bring up things I might miss/forget and add your own speculation to the pile.

You could make a pdf with a summay, short plot synopsis, or hell just put the entire thing in a pdf and upload it here.

In short the story of Alex, wake up get laid, surprise attack, hope attacked, save bar and buss full of people, fight ace ( Give me your face!) explosion, surf the nuke.end of prelude
>>
Starting in thread one, our protagonist Alex Raston kicks his way out of a wrecked core and begins a dazed flashback recalling how he ended up there.

Quickly it's revealed that something not entirely unlike the apocalypse happened about a decade prior, and the world is still reeling a bit from it even after having mostly recovered. It also mentions the Origins of the Core units as the results of experimenting with reactors and neural interfacing technology.

Alex is introduced as a pilot in the Militia for the Independent colony of Hope, located in the northern parts of what we now know as the Mojave Desert. Shortly afterwards, his Squad members Elsie Winters and Lawrence Brenner are introduced. Lawrence fails to convince him to go on a bar-crawl, and Elsie accompanies him on a trip home to check on his family.

After a bit of teasing between himself, Elsie, and his sister Arianna, Alex leaves to go and see what sort of trouble his friends got into while on leave. They arrive at the bar in time to help Dave, the fourth main pilot of their squad, escape the wrath of a jealous boyfriend with the help of Mooch (the squad's tactical coordinator).

This, another quest I enjoy does it and seems to work quite well for them.
>>
>>21754668

I could do that, but I wanted to make a thread instead so that the other people involved in this could have a say and help people understand the game and its happenings from their perspective.
>>
>>21754726
Fuck other people.

Because it is not fun to only fuck yourself.

After helping their friends bail, Alex returns to his family with Elsie to have dinner, and attempts to dodge awkward conversation about Elsie's dead family and the possibility of grandchildren by inhaling a piece of chicken.

His success in the endeavor is highly debatable.

He receives a bag with some wine and a blanket in it from his mother, along with... 'encouragement'. Later that evening, Alex and Elsie have a brief heart-to-heart and end up making love a fair distance from the town proper.

This results in them sleeping through the opening attack of what looks like a raider attack on Hope.

Alex quickly contacts his team, helps coordinate rescue efforts, and then makes his way to Laurie's brother to help evacuate survivors. He then makes his way home to rescue his Mother and sister, discovering that Ari killed one of the raiders in self defense when he attempted to rape them. she also revealed that at least one member of Hope's Militia was in on the attack, helping people bypass security.

Alex Reunites with his Core, and then ends up being almost killed by an enemy Ace-Pilot involved in the attack. Dave arrives and helps push him back, before leaving to deal with other incoming cores.

Alex manages to apparently 'kill' the core, before discovering that it was only faking it's death so it could have a chance to destroy the reactor core powering Hope.

Alex and Dave manage to Evac a handful of additional civilians while outrunning the explosion.

Mostly.

This is the origin of a line which became a running gag that may or may not appear again: "GIVE ME YOUR FACE!".

Alex gets thrown through the air by his shields when they attempt to protect him from the blast, and ends up coming out of the flash-back in his core. As he climbs out he sets a distress beacon and receives aid from a man named Joshua O'Brien.

Josh turns out to be a fellow pilot escorting an Omer Salvage team passing through the area. Upon hearing the news from Hope, he's shocked and distressed, offering what aid he can before sending Alex on his way when his friends arrive.

Alex spends a few private moments with Elsie helping her calm down after finding out he was still alive, before declining Josh's offer to sell his core to the Omer salvage team. They reunite with the survivors of Hope, and eventually decide to take the refugees to Vegas, since it had the best chance of them making money and helping restore the colonists.

Upon arriving in town, they discover that the reigning Arena champ: a man known only as Nine-Ball was the Ace pilot Alex tangled with in Hope, having apparently managed to survive the explosion.

The team registers for Arena combat and with the Raven's Nest to earn money, as soon takes on a bounty mission to take out a bandit named 'Lord Killington'. Said bandit apparently managed to grab some prototype tech from somewhere, and almost kills Alex with a rocket powered Flail before Dave manages to kill him with a lucky hit to the cockpit.

His everything Explodes shortly afterwards.
>>
>>21755101
Wait, Joshua O'Brien is from the AC4 timeline, and Nine-Ball is from AC1/AC2's timeline (Nexus/Nine Breaker too if you consider the US versions canon). The fuck is going on here?
>>
>>21755101

It's worth noting that on the personal side of things, Dave threatened to soundproof our room since his was right next to the one we share with Elsie.

Because of Reasons.
>>
>>21755144
Short version? AC-Quest takes place in it's own timeline that uses elements from just about every game timeline.
>>
>>21755144

This came up sometime during the first thread: the quest dosen't take place in any specific timeline connected to the Armored Core franchise, it's more like a mixed bag of elements and references blended into a new setting.

Think of it as another branch of the continuity, with elements of the various 'other' games mixed in.
>>
>>21755101

After the mission, Alex decided to take Elsie on a date to wind down, and as an excuse for them to spend more time together. He ends up listening to her complaints at how dresses function as garments, before deciding to take her swing-dancing at a local Jazz parlor.

This initially seems to be a less than fantastic idea, since Elsie is completely petrified due to being surrounded by people she doesn't know and having no clue how to dance. Alex talks her around by insisting on a slow-dance and talking the band into obliging the request. Along the way, he gets a gun pointed at him and pisses off the local mob equivalent.

After the dancing that Elsie ended up with a much higher opinion of, the two of them head to a local diner and find an unlikely ally in Marge, the proprietor of the establishment.

When they return home, they find Ari sprawled half-naked across Dave in the living room of the base. Alex reacts in what he considered to be a perfectly reasonable manner: by chasing Dave around the hangar with a chair threatening to kill him.

Mooch ends up shooting Alex with a tranq dart to spare Dave's life, as well as in retribution for interrupting his 'brooding'. Mooch, deciding to go for a walk during this time, gets kidnapped.

Alex wakes up sometime later in his room, restrained by Elsie. After he calms down he leaves to apologize to his sister and hash out the issue with Dave. Dave soon ends up getting Alex's tentative permission to pursue her romantically.
>>
>>21755350

At around this time, Mooch wakes up in a warehouse and quickly manages to TACTICAL BULLSHITTING his way out of the situation, stealing a nice-suit from one of the kidnappers along the way. He ends up reuniting with his Core, and engaging a handful of 'goons' attempting to re-capture him.

He calls Alex, who somewhat reluctantly agrees to use his 'thug power' to counteract the 'goon squad'.

The team rallies, and arrives to find Mooch getting his ass kicked. The four additional suits on the ground quickly reverse the situation, obliterating the two smaller units and crippling a unusually large third one while killing the pilot.

Mooch then reveals part of his past in that his Father is an evil crime boss, and was clearly trying to either kill him before he could do anything against him or force him to take over the family business.

The team turns out rather supportive of the whole affair, and one of the mechanics mentions in passing that his family was killed by ninjas when Alex asked about prior issues to avoid such surprises in the future.

Also: /tg/, with the assistance of the dice-gods, made a serious attempt on my life at this point in time. Apparently someone managed to roll a natural 86 on a d20.
>>
It's worth noting that this is about the point where the first crunch/fluff thread was made, here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/18686786/

I'm gonna take a quick break on my end to get something to drink. If anybody wants to field a fluff or crunch related question, now's a good time. Or just comments on the game/thread up to this point.
>>
>>21755523

So, how much would you say the rules have changed since that thread? It says 'pre-alpha'. And is there/will there be a pdf file on /tg/ with the rules for us to play with?
>>
>>21755617

Base mechanics are mostly the same, and those are the only bits the players mess with anyway. I'm not sure how open I'll be putting the Beta out there yet, since I'm angling for an eventual commercial release of the system.

After bringing Mooch back home, Alex goes to sleep. He wakes up later in the day with Elsie, and discovers that sometime in the morning before he awoke she convinced Mooch to help her fix up the third captured core that Alex was planning to sell for scrap with money she didn't have permission to access. After yelling at her perhaps slightly more harshly than intended, Elsie took Alex to look over possible work contracts. He's too distracted by his conflicting feelings on the situation with Ari and decides to go for a walk and find something for breakfast.

Along the way, he hears the sound of a distressed woman in a alleyway, and moves in to help her. Slightly too late, he realizes this is an ambush, and receives a pipe to the ribs for his heroism. This completely shatters the already weakened and cracked bone, leaving him at the mercy of some weird device in his assailant’s hand. It causes some level of mental anguish for Alex, when suddenly an unfamiliar man arrives and saves him.

After driving away his attacker, he gives Alex a weird pendant and delivers some cryptic warnings before shooting him in the arm and placing a call for help. Due to his choice in words, and certain details about the encounter, it's suspected by Alex that the man was actually Nine-Ball. His motivations and rational are yet unexplained.

Alex wakes up and learns that the trinket Nine-Ball gave him is called a 'Self Stone' a talisman that's apparently worth a lot of money and said to ward against evil magic.

Apparently his Father owned one like it, which he gave to his wife before he disappeared before the start of the game. Upon hearing this revelation, Alex passes out again and wakes up to the smell of Pancakes. His hastily conceived plan for some sort of syrupy fun flies right over Elsie's head, and is then vetoed due to broken ribs.

Alex then proceeds to brush off concerns about his health and has Dave schedule a doctor's appointment with a colleague of his to have his ribs welded back together. He gets some more info from Zack about the best way to insure that the survivors of Hope get back on their feet, casually slaps away Ari's concerns over his injuries and then sends her running away in fear.

He then manages to upset Dave by ignoring his sound medical advice (ie. stay in bed, you have broken ribs) and chooses to have Elsie drive him to talk with his Mother. After a brief visit with her, he returns home and passes out waiting for the doctor's appointment later in the day.

Upon waking up, he discovers that he accidentally upset Elsie by getting her 'riled up' before passing out on the soft bed, and she promises to get her due out of him after he's healed up.
>>
>>21756100

Alex makes the trip to the Doctor's office, and gets his ribs 'healed' by SCIENCE. While he's out, Laurie discovers what appears to be a Ninja in the Hangar and defeats him by taking him out of the air with a thirty pound pipe-wrench. With the help of Ken, the mechanic who apparently lost his parents to Ninja attack, he disarms a bomb left by said Ninja and helped make sure everybody got out alright.

Alex, waking up from the medical procedure, discovers that he is in a hilarious amount of pain. He then gets a Morphine fueled 'happy shot' from Dave, and accidentally overhears Elsie voicing her anxiety to Dave about Alex's health and their relationship. Alex decides not to confront her on this, and instead use the information to try and improve things between them.

Upon arriving back at the hangar, the three of the express surprise at the events that happened in their absence ('We leave for three hour's and Laurie becomes an action hero?'). The rest of the evening passes in a tired blur and Alex and Elsie find themselves headed to bed early.

Alex is awoke early in the morning by Elsie crying in her sleep, and after comforting her the two of them realize that the base was apparently attacked by ninjas the day before, and that they should probably look into that.

Apparently, after being exposed to Mooch's.... unique interrogation techniques, the man revealed that he worked for an organization called 'The White Fang'. Some sort of Black Hat mercenary group.
>>
>>21756258

Apparently, they were payed by a man operating under the name 'Legion' to try and kidnap Alex. The man who attacked him earlier and broke his ribs was apparently connected to this group as well. After discovering this new information from his team-mates, Alex shared his suspicions as to Nine-Ball helping him during the previous attack. While the team tried to puzzle out this newest bit of information, Alex got some more medical advice from Dave, before rather gleefully leaving to wait by the door for his first day of playing Drill Sergent for Ari.

After claiming the engineering pool in the Hanger were equipped with rubber bullets if she didn't hurry up to the Sims room, Alex watched Ari scramble away before scheduling the team's next op: additional security for a recovery mission from Rayleonard.

Alex then decides to work in some Sim time himself, and ends up killing several Cores in a survival sim without firing a shot, before it's suddenly hacked by someone claiming to be a 'man of wealth and taste'. Same man then claimed to have both known and killed Alex's missing father.

After several minutes of intense combat against odd MT like units, Mooch manages to Hack past the stranger's interference and get Alex out of the machine.
>>
>>21756417

Everyone quietly freaks out over events in their own way, while Josh merely comments. "That's how you fly with a gimped synch score hopped up on pain-killers the day after having your ribs welded back together? Shit, now I HAVE to see you on top of your game."

After confirming that everyone was more or less alright and formally introducing Ari and Josh (who upon learning that she was Alex's sister, took a careful step back), Alex bailed to take his Mother and Elsie out to lunch. Along the way, he realizes that he never told his Mother about the relationship upgrade between himself and Elsie, and managed to maneuver the situation in a way that made him look caring and benevolent as he informed her.

After returning from Lunch (during which there was a 'minor' derailment over the merits of Sweet and Sour pork), Alex has a minor emotional breakdown from the stress of the last few days finally catching up to him. Elsie sneaks him to their room so that he could be a hypocrite by hiding his emotional issues while getting upset with others for doing the same (a running theme in the quest).

While Alex is distracted, Ari forces Dave to take her bowling to skip out of training. After soundly kicking his ass, she forces him to promise to take her on a real date 'next time'.

The following day, the team moves out to do the Rayleonard job.
>>
>>21756526
>the Rayleonard job
Mmmmmmm, the Rayleonard job.
Our first look at the next big thing in tech.
>>
>>21756526

On the mission, one of Rayleonard's ace pilots Berloiz does a sit-rep and tell informs the team that they'll be guarding a group of scientists he's using for bait in case the target they're attacking escapes the perimeter.

It does, and Elsie manages to ground it with a well placed Sniper shot while the rest of the Team moves to engage. Alex manages to take it down after his synch score inexplicably rises a significant amount.

The resulting explosion from killing the machine manages to knock Alex unconscious while his core shuts down. Despite apparently gaining super powers, seeing a preview of the sort of insane WMDs the corps were building, and making ace.... Alex decides upon waking up that the most important thing is Elsie's reading glasses. And how she apparently look 'cute' in them, much to her dismay.

He then makes a rather out of character choice in deciding to wait for the Doctor's permission to get up and run around while in a questionable state of health. He also takes to opportunity to snoop and discovers that the book Elsie was reading was a collection of love poems, before settling in to read one of his favorite childhood books, apparently rescued at the last minute by his mother: The Time Machine. A recurring theme in subtle hints /tg/ fails to notice.

Dave does the check-up while rather distracted, and Alex reveals why he's so over-protective of his sister. She was almost raped a couple of times while they were growing up.

It should be noted that it's roughly at this point in time that Laurie is revealed to look like a prettier version of Char Anzable from Gundam.

For those curious as to how the characters look, Deculture (of MGNQ, among other things) drew the attached picture of the cast when given the descriptions.

I personally rather like it, even if I'm not 100% on Elsie's face, and Dave's will haunt my nightmare's until I die.

Apologies for this, but I think I need to take a quick break from the 'abridging' of AC-Quest.

I'm re-reading all the threads as fast as possible while writing this, and.... well I tend to be INCREDIBLY critical of my own work. Every typo and every grammatical miss-step I'm spotting on the run through, and it's like a freaking physical pain as I read them and go 'oh god, i posted that on the internet'.

So I'm gonna take a few minutes for the sake of my sanity, and then come back and pick this up. I was hoping that having other people contribute to the thing would ease the pain, but it isn't. Like at all.

If anybody wants to try and do some more while I'm away, feel free.

I feel like like we need to post the actual Dave's commentary on his place in the cast pic.

>I have an uncle who was a preacher who went to prison for charges related to child pornography. Before this sounds like a regular 'take that Catholicism' joke, there are two details worth noting: firstly, Uncle Petey isn't a pedophile, secondly he was Lutheran.

>Turns out it wasn't HIS child porn, it was his gay BDSM master's that he was holding onto for some reason. I think it was because he needed to go buy drugs in Mexico and didn't want his wife finding them while he was out of town.

>Anyway, I don't know how/what/why inspired or made that pic of me, but that's the exact face Uncle Petey gave me when I gave him some soap on a rope for Christmas a couple years ago. It even looks a lot like him.

>So you made me look like my least favorite uncle that nobody talks about. I would post a pic so you would have a reference to work with, but my camera's broke and thanks to a combination of bar-fightan' and pink-eye, I look like a diseased raccoon.

>I have no idea where I'm going with this, since I've been drinking NyQuil all day to try and head of this fever I got brewing, but I'm pretty sure the moral of the story is 'never trust a ginger'.

>We aren't even to the half-way point.

Yeah, Acguys summary stopped at the middle of thread 17.

So after >>21756711 we get a scene of Laurie throwing his cross necklace on the ground. We then switch back to Alex and Elsie just hanging in the common room at the barracks watching tv and having fun before falling asleep on the couch.
>>
>>21759049
They wake up when the phone rings at 2 am. Turns out that a girl named Cassadra was told by her mother to call this number and ask for Dave if she was in trouble. Some thugs came in her mother's bakery and after shooting a friend of Cass mother that was just hanging out there, they started chasing her. Alex being a big damn hero tell her to go to the casino to hide and gives his number in case shit hits the fan.

A short cutscene takes place here that shows Laurie being arrested for beating up 9 guys when they dared call him a pretty boy inside a bar.

Back on Alex's side, he and Elsie quickly go to the casino to meet Cass while also calling for backup from Dave and Ari. They find Cass being harassed by 3 biker dudes.

One of them makes the grave mistake of hitting on Elsie making her draw her gun and threaten to shoot his balls. Things quickly escalate and the leader of the gang tried to hit Alex with a knife to the ribs. We get lucky with the dice here and Alex easily catches him and then says this:

The 3 goons are quickly dealt with after that. Cass is now safe and all 3 go back to the barracks. They meet Dave there and he learns that Cass is the daughter of someone he knew, Molly Kreever.

Dave doesn't press her with any more questions and leads her to a spare bunker in order for her to rest. After he comes back, Dave reveals that while he really does know someone called Molly Kreever, he knows she is sterile and that even if by some miracle she became pregnant her child wouldn't be pushing 16.

Right then. After deciding to keep Cass for the Night, POV switched to Laurie for a while in his continuing quest to find booze. He leaves the hospital after a quick checkup and leaves to a local liquor store.

While there, he meets Fraide, and immediately hates him. After leaving with his booze, he drinks and then decides to go and look for a small cross-pendant he discarded earlier in the evening. He spends until morning searching for it, when he stumbles back into the base.

Meanwhile, Alex makes a giant pile of waffles in a vague attempt to impress Elsie and comfort Cass. He checks the general status of his team and guest over breakfast, and gets opinions about who should be fielded in the three man team for the upcoming arena fighting. Then, after looking into getting a parts catalog set up, he confronts Laurie about his issues as he returns from his attempted bender. Laurie dodges it momentarily, and takes a nap.

Alex then goes to check on his sister's training, and tells Elsie that the team needs to beat her stupid habits out of her. Elsie points out Alex's hypocrisy on the matter, and Alex chooses to confront it head on, pointing out that he's earned the right to fly like an asshole.

After having the conversation with Elsie and helping Mooch recover from an all-niter, he checks in on Cass and Dave, before going to help Laurie recover his trinket.
>>
>>21769447

They find the trinket, and Alex's concern for his friend finishes pushing Laurie over the edge into an emotional breakdown, causing him to run away and attempt to drink himself to death. Not long after, the two of them reconcile and finally admit to being best friends, as Laurie swears off drinking. They return to base and finalize the Arena team as Alex, Dave, and Laurie shortly afterwards.

They also learn that while they were out, Dave attempted to give Elsie dancing lessons at her request.

Shenanigans ensued.

The team is also introduced to Morgan, Mooch's Wife. Also learn that Mooch's real name is apparently Matthew. The team signs up for the Arena, encounters Fraide, and meets Fraide's partner Alexander Verant. After a brief conversation and filling out paperwork, The team returns to base. Alex decides to see how much Elsie learned from Dave's instruction on dancing, while Laurie leaves to visit Hope and say goodbye. While there, he finds that some people managed to miraculously survive the destruction pinned under some rubble. The team enters the Arena the next day with that positive news behind them.

The first round is against a team 'Mo Betta'. Terms are agreed to be a best of three between them and Alex's Team, named 'The Snaps' (After Alex's rather unhealthy obsession with Ginger Snap cookies).

The first round put Laurie against Tony, a mid to close-range specialist with high damage output and suppressive tactics. Laurie manages to dispatch him quickly, after Tony's misguided attempt at chivalry (thinking Laurie was a woman) left him open for a brutal combo attack.

Dave went head to head with Steve, the second member of the team. Steve calmly sat behind a wall of bullets with hilarious amounts of Dakka keeping Dave to try and pick away at him from a distance so he wouldn't be annihilated. After realizing he couldn't win a battle of attrition, Dave made a risky play to try and take him down quickly, but managed to be taken down by a sudden counter attack.

With the deciding match left to Alex and the enemy captain, 'Dervish', they went into the Arena and went into a very tense match. Since Dervish was piloting a stealth optimized high-speed build, Alex was forced to play defensive and react until he noticed a flaw in the stealth with Dervish's thermal signature. Before long, Alex managed to turn this into a decisive edge and win by luring Dervish into a trap.

After the battle, Alex and Co. took a minute to get acquainted with and buddy up with team Mo Betta. They meet up for drinks while Dave's core is repaired, and swap stories and plans before leaving on good terms.

The next round, Team Snaps fought the Tunnel Snakes (Tunnel Snakes Rule!), who as it turns out were the same people who were harassing Cass the evening they met.

His callsign? It's "Zin", as in "Zingiber Officinale", as in the plant we get ginger from.

With a combination of strategy and ruthless trolling, Alex manged to gain the upper-hand and trick one of Butch's (The enemy Captain) men into shooting him out in a VIP match. After leaving a parting shot to the Tunnel Snakes (Tunnel Snakes schooled!) Alex and company take a minute out of their day to check in on Hope's survivors via Zack.

After making sure their people were alright and confirming that he wasn't working his way into an early grave, Alex broached the question about maybe using their relative celebrity to try and help improve things. Zack seemed thoughtful on the topic, and chose to look into it at a later point.

With two arena fights under their belt, the team decides to head home and get some rest after the incredibly long day.

Which is when, despite extreme ninja-related Paranoia, the quest took a temporary perspective switch to the Second protagonist/other half of the story.

Kickass! Thanks for this, dude!

This point is in the middle of thread #27, and marks a somewhat serious change in scope and tone for the quest.

It also marks the point where I'm either pausing the retelling and/or passing this on to participants. I need to go run my other quest.

Now, in the previous few threads, some of us had been discussing how feasible it would be to have some sort of a polearm for our Core. Now, thanks to the physical forces involved, it actually wouldn't be that feasible if it were, for example a halberd. But what none of us could have foreseen, is just what happened when AC-Guy decided to give us a lance and a character built around it to play with.
Eliza McAllistair is the conductor of the world's largest rapetrain. Said train is not equipped with any braking mechanisms.

Also a life support bump.

I think rolling 2 critical failures on the same action counts as a brake (I was one of those rolls).

But that's a story for another time.

That's an unfinished other story at that as we don't know the full outcome beyond "your arm is on fire" yet

Ah those were the good days, nothing like an entire crunch thread dedicated to how feasible a pole-arm weapon would be at Core sizes

Page seven is far enough.
