Good evening /tg/! Tonight's a very special edition of the Quest Thread, for two reasons. First, it's time for combat! (I've already got revisions for the system... But we'll see how well everything plays out tonight). Second, at some point in this quest thread, I'll turn 22, so there's that.

Who's ready to get playing?

Previous thread is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21778405/

Get in here ya fools, we're celebrating Britfag's birthday by mercilessly conquering religious Zealots!

And what a glorious slaughter it will be. Britfag, what's your first name? Because this battle will probably cause the creation of a new hero, and I want to name it after you.

Edward XVIII most likely. You know those Europeans and their love of having the same name and roman numerals.

Same here on age. I figured as much though, not to imply anything bad.

@Britfag: Happy Birthday man. Also, you know you don't have to do this tonight, right? If you feel like doing other stuff, lets us know. It's not like we don't understand birthdays. Not implying that you don't want to, just wanted to throw that out there.

Hey V.
And yea, sorry to dissappoint you guys. No female tits in this thread.

male tits?

Also I have a terrible feeling that Britfag is planning on making the crisis at home to be something that can not be fought with swords and spear... but for our people to risk starvation.
>>
>>21810909
Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>21810937
If you don't mind A cups.

>>21810912
I don't know why, but I figured Brit would be mid-late 20's. And you other guys around 18-24. With Refrek at 11.
Just kidding
>>
Good morning/Night every one.

>>21810915
You'll always be a sweet women in me mind, you fiend.

The Imperial Legion of Emperors of the Imperial Empire of Imperialis would like to wish our host, Britfag, a happy birthday. We would also like to induct him in to the Legions as an official Emperor, and give him all of the rights and titles that go with that.

Hail, Britius Faggius Threadius Questius the First.

>>21810963
E) Have the wise men try and solve the food crisis.

H) Send an envoy to the other tribes. In times of hardship while the warriors are off to war, we should try and pool our resources together to survive. That means food.

D) Try and get some more wild food, can't over-fish the river right now.
>>
>>21810970

I am in your age range. Also, I like just the way you are ska, no homo.

>>21810878

>vexing as ever

I am insulted and appalled, good sir! Oh wait, you are right =/
>>
>>21810990
I'll second your choices.
>>
Comments on Imperial Bro's choice:

I believe we will appear weak if we ask to pool resources, with the River Bros already sending food off to war.

I think he might be right on not over-fishing though.

I do think we need to close the food gap fast now, before other problems arrive.

I absolutely agree with research.
>>
>>21810990

im ok with these as well
>>
Tell me if my typing gets annoying - I tend to type too much, but I am just going to keep throwing out topics for discussion for now, so we keep this moving.
>>
>>21810990
THis, except we need to be specific on the E. I say we specify they are going to try and figure out a more efficient way to fish. IE: Converting those nice woven baskets into fish traps.
>>
>>21811096
Wise idea. Thanks for the catch, mate.
>>
>>21811041
We sent more than triple what everyone else sent to the war. I think they'll understand.
>>
>>21810990
>>21811041

I can agree with V. We should maybe try and solve this on our own.
In case of an emergency we still have our poultry to slaughter... Not that I'd be fond of that, but it's a possibility.

>You'll always be a sweet women in me mind, you fiend.
>Also, I like just the way you are ska, no homo.
I feel so pretty now.
>>
>>21811114

>the catch

heh heh

also i think we should move our research toward the grain for that one, we're already close to overfishing the river with rinas help, the grain is a bigger problem to me
>>
>>21811096
>>21811115
You're right, but in the future we have to keep fishing at a steady level and depend more on agriculture as soon as we get it going. Can't keep overfishing and overhunting.
Thinking more of a steady passive bonus through fishing or emergency source of food.
>>
>>21810963

B. Rina, fish. Please. Also hunt deer this time too.
D. Fall fruits and veggies, please.
H. Send envoys to the Lions and River Bros.

Lions: "We understand your reasons for not being able to spare the men for runners but, if you would be inclined to listen to my proposition, I think you'll see the sense in it. With our numbers dwindled as they currently are with the campaign, we Long Fangs offer up our village to you as a safe haven. Together we can ensure the mutual protection of our people, pool our resources to ensure survival and build stronger bonds between our tribes. We already see you as great allies in this world, perhaps if you accept our offer we can see each other as brothers too. The decision is yours, but the time is short and winter is coming."

River Bros: Explain our predicament and ask about their farming process and ways in which we might bring our harvest back to life.
>>
>>21811130
Again, we sent far more to the war effort than everyone else. I think they'll understand. Except maybe hold off on sending it to the Lion lords, since they're having a tough time too.
>>
>>21811163
I kinda like your lion-idea but I doubt they would do it. Leaving their village for several months without somebody to watch and protect it. It will most likely be pretty beat up by the time they get back.
Could make them stay with us instead though.
>>
>>21811160
>>21811153

So may I offer up my options to you, good sirs? We have to rely on fishing for just a little longer and foraging, but we that envoy to the river bros parhaps next season we can get back on our feet with a bigger grain supply.
>>
Rolled 3, 3, 5 = 11

>>21811163
Seconding
>>
>>21811163
We can't fish the river right now man, it's too much of a gamble. Rina is overtaxed, and Chani might be starting to get pissed.
>>
Let's have a quick vote on beg for food or not:

Option 1: Beg for food.
Option 2: Hunt and fish (in addition to berries which we all agree on.)

Also, we need to determine the nature of research, I just don't remember what our problems were? Or was the harvest just weak? Maybe if we are gonna send an envoy to earth bros, we should ask for help with farming. Might be out of our hands due to god issues now.
>>
>>21811211

I will concede to this as well, but we do need to hunt. "Winter is coming," etc. We need to solve the food problem. I am very against hunting the deer herd, but we need to.
>>
>>21811163
What about the Earthsplitters? They sent the least men and also did not send any food. THey probably have the most to spare.
>>
>>21811199
I don't recall their architecture, but we could also just throw in that when the time comes we could help repair any damage that befalls their village. I really don't think it would be too terrible or time consuming.

If they decide to leave, that is. I'm hoping they'll just join us and bring their new gods, tech and whatever else they have.

It's a good offer, I think and hopefully they'll take it.
>>
Compromise choice.

B). Hunt deer. Do not fish.
D). Gather food. Give gatherers light spears for basic protection.
H). Send envoys to Lions. See if they want some sort of building deal that we can offer in exchange for food. Don't beg, tell them you would feel safer with extra reserves. Ask River Bros for help with farming tech.
>>
B. Rina, fish. Please. Also hunt deer this time too.
D. Fall fruits and veggies, please.
Use dem baskets.
H. Send envoys to The Earthsplitters and River Bros.

Explain our situation where most of our workforce has gone off to the war effort and that we would very much like for some extra food if either have any to spare, because otherwise we might starve.
>>
Let's get everyone to either vote now, or throw out an alternative. It's assumed that list-makers are voting for their latest list. I know being pushy is annoying, but we should probably keep choices to under 30 mins to keep this rolling, most of the time.
>>
>>21811305
Voting for this, it's a nice compromise.
>>
>>21811239
True enough, but of all the tribes I currently trust them the least. They offered the fewest men, it is true and they probably have spare food, but eh.

Something just doesnt sit right with me and telling more people than we have to about our food shortage isn't a great idea in my mind.

We don't have to ask Rina to help with fishing and just go it ourselves in order to give her a break, but fishing and hunting is all I can figure right now. We are kinda in a bad way here.
>>
>>21811305
Our food is critical and it's almost winter. I just don't think this will cut it.
>>
Rolled 2, 3, 1 = 6

>>21811305
Going with this.
>>
>>21811354
Their chieftain is currently off with the war effort. They don't seem very inclined to take drastic action without him; I think it is fairly safe telling them. Besides, everyone is depleted militarily, I really doubt they will be going for a two front war; especially when they chieftain signed the Riverlands Concord and this would break the pact.
>>
>>21811305
Does this compromise include asking the Lions to join us for the duration of the war then? Because this is probably our best change to get them into our village and work on getting them to join us.
>>
>>21811354

I am 100% with you on not asking Earth splitters for help.

>>21811366

It's July, unless I am a drug addict and don't know what's going on at all.
>>
>>21811366
We can't fish yet man, need for the river to stock up. If we over fish, or ask too much of Chani, then we will have to do a bunch of Godpleasing to make things right again.
>>
>>21811410
Month 1 is spring, I thought and month 9 is the beginning of winter.
>>
>>21811410
The calendars don't sink up. Winter starts at 10, so after this turn we will have two turns to get enough stores to last us the winter months.
>>
>>21811305
I'll second this. Also while D) gather more eggs and milk if it isn't included
>>
>>21811427
Shit, did we miss the salmon run this year? I can never remember what month its in.
>>
>>21811446
Josh is right, winter is at 9 not 10. So 1 more turn.
>>
>>21811456
Britfag would tell us. We're good.
>>
>>21811305
I'll sixth this. All I want, really, is to ask the Lions to join us. Everything else is immaterial. And if they do join us, they'll bring food too. Their cattle herd is probably good sized if they managed to send 6 of them to us. Should alleviate our problem a bit so yeah.
>>
>>21811468
Right on then. We'll skip fishing for this turn and hit it like a caveman when the salmon run starts. Hopefully, unlike before, our "abundant" haul doesn't equal low fish. Again lol.
>>
Brit, here is our choice for this turn that, I think, we have a consensus on:

-----
B). Hunt deer. Do not fish.

D). Send some villagers to gather food from the berry thicket, the forest, and pick up any eggs they can. Arm the mofos at least lightly (spear or something).

E). Send envoys to Lions. See if they want some sort of building deal that we can offer in exchange for food. Don't beg, tell them you would feel safer with extra reserves. Ask River Bros for help with farming tech.
-----

"When you are weak you must appear strong, when you are strong, appear weak; This is the art of war."

-Sun Tzu

With that said, I guess I was wrong on the calendar - I will keep that in mind, thanks guys.
>>
>>21811569
I don't agree with this, we need to ask for food from the River Brothers and Earthsplitters. Sometimes we must swallow our pride for the good of our people. If we don't have enough food our warriors will come back to a dead city.
>>
>>21811569
le sigh. I abstain from voting for this. Let everybody else carry it over.
>>
B. Hunt deer and other forest animals.
D. Gather fruits and vegetables. Lightly arm the people. Which seems redundant, I'm sure they're always armed in the woods.
E. Envoys

Like I've said, literally ten times now, if they join us, and I think they will, our food problem will be massively alleviated. Even if they don't we still have our first two actions to help. There is no downside to this setup.
>>
>>21811750
Lets just ask the Earthsplitters for some food. We're allies and signed the Riverlands Concord. I do not think, especially without their chieftain, they will take any hostile actions against us.
>>
>>21811775
Fine, third envoy.

Earthsplitters: "Yo, guys, we kinda didn't plan ahead and in our own stupidity sent all of our food with the army for the attack. Would you kindly provide some grain or something. We'd be eternally grateful."
>>
>>21811830
Or we could tell them we did not anticipate a failed harvest this year and that our food stores are low... that could work to.
>>
>>21811750

I am cool with this too, if that gets us all to agree.
>>
>>21811895
Maybe so. But sending all of the food in the first place was a bad call. And It's not like the harvest issue is new. The past three harvests have been getting worse and worse. We're all to blame for that.

Oh well, nothing to do but move past it as best we can.
>>
>>21811750
For the Nth time, agreeding to this.
>>
>>21811569
>>21811624
I've tallied the votes. V carries it this time, Refrek. Sorry.

With the harvest in jeopardy, the hunters take to the forest to try and bring back as many deer as possible, although many people are worried about the order not to fish in the river. The hunters do their best, but with their numbers reduced by the warband's departure in the summer, they can only do so much.

While the hunters to their thing, the rest of the village, armed likely in case of attack, take to the forest, scavenging and gathering anything they can. Eggs, fruits, wild vegetables, absolutely anything!

> Going to have to ask for clarification on what precisely you're offering the Lion Tribe. You're offering to build shit for them, in exchange for food?
>>
>>21811961

We are offering them our skills and tech, whatever they may ask for, short of whoring out our gods. It has to be reasonable though. We can help them build a shrine to their guides (without worshipping them), we can offer to build them some shields, whatever. My general impression is that we are all fairly trusting of them, so we will accommodate any reasonable request for tech or skilled labor (for a moon or two), This is *my* understanding, since I adjusted my vote based on tribe suggestions, Josh's idea as far as I remember, so whatever he says after me, if anything, is more accurate.
>>
>>21812000

to their gods*
>>
>>21811961
I'm still pushing this, even now, lol

"We understand your reasons for not being able to spare the men for runners but, if you would be inclined to listen to my proposition, I think you'll see the sense in it. With our numbers dwindled as they currently are with the campaign, we Long Fangs offer up our village to you as a safe haven. Together we can ensure the mutual protection of our people, pool our resources to ensure survival and build stronger bonds between our tribes. We already see you as great allies in this world, perhaps if you accept our offer we can see each other as brothers too and in the fullness of time when you decide to return to your village, we will help you repair it to be as good or better than it was before. The decision is yours, but the time is short and winter is coming."
>>
>>21812014

I concede to this. It's a better version of my plan:

>>
>>21812000
>>21812014

Yeah, this, really. We offer them safe haven in our village and all that good stuff. Pretty much these two posts are what we're offering, I just put mine into speech form.

And V, I'd like to apologize, I was a bit confused by your last option and read it entirely wrong. Sincerest apologies, sir.
>>
>>21812069

That's the thing - I think we are virtually entirely in agreement, lol.

I feel bad, because I was being kind of pushy this game, but now that there is no pending vote, I really think we need a more effective system, maybe even organize it somehow. For example:

1. Everyone throws in their choice options.
2. Everyone either votes or throws in suggestions.
3. If clear vote, boom, done. (Unlikely at this stage)
4. Everyone who wants, throws in a revision.
5. Vote and take majority however small, in most cases, or maybe even roll.

I think we are killing britfag here with all the ambiguity (I am at fault as much as anyone else).

@Brit: Josh's speech is good, if we still have time.
>>
Also, Ref, I just wanted to add that we still love you and we are totally following your ambush plan during the battle, it's just that appearing weak to people we don't trust for shit is risky.
>>
>>21812117
For the most part there are only three people throwing out options at any one time. And then there are modifications so yeah, it gets a bit hectic from time to time. It would be a great system, if we ever got it to work, but such is the way of civ quests.

And Refrek, we do still have much bro love for you and your warlike ways.
>>
>>21812273
I know, I get that you guys aren't going to side with me all the time. Haha.
>>
Britfag must be working on something magnificent for this last option.

Good or bad? Who's to say?
>>
>>21812461
Or maybe he is doing birthday things. Haha
>>
>>21812461

I think he is writing an "event" type deal for the battle.

>>21812486

That's cool too.

I want one of us to draw all the gods and their priests just for reference / advertising, but I don't have a tablet atm. One day, one day.
>>
>>21812486
True, true. Birthday things while our tribe is in danger of starving? Not the Britfag I know! But don't actually know.
>>
>>21812273
Maybe we should set a time limit for ourselves, like, 20 minutes or so. In that time, people can offer whatever they want, comment whatever they want, but after 20 minutes, you have to just vote. If you've got a good idea, save it for next turn. Only offer up something after 20 turns if it's a really exceptional idea, or a great solution to a big problem, or something that can only apply to that turn. Also, howdy folks, glad I could join ya.
>>
>>21812583

Hey mojo, I was thinking the same, and I thought 20 initially too, but then I watched our progress, and decided that maybe it should be 30 after britfag posts the choice menu, just because of how long our discussions take, but yea, good idea either way.
>>
>>21812583
Yeah, that sounds splendid, actually.

Also, if this Lion tribe thing pans out, I'm changing my name. That diplomatic success will only feed my tribal delusions of grandeur, guys. I'm sorry, haha.
>>
Oh god my neck! Just fell asleep for 1.5 hours and surprisingly little happened...

I think it's about time to sing for Brit if I'm not mistaken? You said during the quest, right? So it should have been an hour ago. Even if I'm wrong:

Happy Birthday to you dear Britfag, and I wish you all the best in the world!
>>
> God dammit, I am so sorry, everyone. I'd hoped I could get my head in the game tonight, of all nights. I don't have an excuse for this disgraceful delay.
> I wish I could at least say I was getting stuff prepped for the battle. I can't honestly claim that though.
> Here's to another year passed of underachieving and letting people down.

An envoy is dispatched to the Lion Tribe with a message.

The Lion Tribe seems indeed to think this suggestion over, before generally agreeing that the arrangement makes a great deal of sense to them. To the last man, they gather their belongings, herding their cattle together and setting out to the Long Fang village. Crossing the river is a slow and laborious process for their herds, but eventually, everyone makes it across with only one or two losses in the herd. Once they arrive and see the food situation however, they are a LOT less happy about their new location! Likewise, the villagers seem unhappy too! They barely had enough to feed themselves and now they have to also care for and feed the Lion Tribe too?!
>>
>>21812906
...fuck....

we're screwed... we are so screwed.
>>
>>21812906
Bah. The food situation will be fixed shortly. We've still got the salmon run, eating those birds/eggs and scavenging in the forest, but, I suppose, we could ask the river brothers for a spot of food.

>>
>>21812978
No worries. The added manpower will enhance our gathering. Surely they know how to hunt and when the salmon run happens they will be able to pick up fishing rather quickly.

The food will be tight, but we will survive this and become stronger for it. That said, we need to talk to the River Brothers. And, while loathe to say it, we should ask the Earthsplitters for some help. Refrek was right, their chieftain is away so they'll be less likely to move against us and even if they decide to, we have the might of two tribes in our village now.
>>
>>21813041

Just spin it more as "lol, you get to live behind walls now," but yea, I didn't think of the fact that they might be hungry too and now we just fucked them. Our hunting shouldn't have been useless, but we will see.
>>
>>21813041
Speaking of which, how many more people did we just move into our village, britfag?

I don't think it'll be more than 400 but I might be wrong.
>>
>>21813063
Our hunting is always useless. Sad as that is, our "bountiful" and "abundant" hauls only ever amount to a month of food. At this rate, we'll need to focus solely on food gathering just to sustain the people we already have even if we get our farms back up next year and producing slightly more than they were before.

I'm not saying the food system sucks, it plays well into the hard mode we're working under but it can be a huuuuuuge pain in the ass.

I love when someone (supposedly english speaking) speaks ze german on the internet.

God, I knew this would happen... At least we have more manpower to get around. We should ask them what they use for food gathering, maybe we can learn something.
And what about when the armies come back? Might be a little cramped by then.

>Here's to another year passed of underachieving and letting people down.
God damnit, will you cheer up? It's your birthday. Also you're british, so stiff upper lip and all that.
But really now, it's never too late to do something worthwile. And you're far ahead of me, you're DM'ing for 5-7 people 2-3 times a week. That's something worthwile, you're providing genuine entertainment.
Also, as much as I know of you as a person, you seem nice and interesting, so please cheer up.
With the wisdom of the age, after all I'm 5 months older than you let me say: everything will fall into place if you let it and the only one keeping you from being happy is yourself. (mostly....)

Have a lovely picture of a cat eating a melon.

Our warband needs to rape and pillage and haul ass home with food. I know that's unlikely, but I really don't think earthsplitters have a ton of reserves they just want to give to us.
>>
>>21813195

>suggesting that britfag cheer up when .04% of the Parliament still doesn't follow his every political whim. Outrageous!

I think Lions are gonna fuck off back to their village when warband comes home.

>come back from war
>expect feast
>see people eating each other and starving

Good times in the Longfang village. (and then brit thinks he is doing a bad job, lol)

I don't think it'll be that bad, really. Just, you know, "tough." We'll have to rely on allies more than before and that won't be easy but if we put a nice spin on it they might be more willing to help us with just a bit more. Both the River Brothers and Earthsplitters I mean.
>>
>>21813410

True, but I think after the war, we really need to get our shit together.
>>
If you guys give me a minute ill write something up to request food from our allies. it'll be good, i believe.

Nothing like poverty and hard times to cause a radical change in policy.

Sell our children as slaves to ocean people!

Save it for next week, would you kindly? I've been working on less than nine hours sleep in forty-eight hours and I've been drained as a lake in a drought lately, emotionally speaking.

>>21813099
I'm sorry about the food system. Think of it like this: You not only have to feed every working soul in the village, but also the children and elders too. With a good chunk of your workers away, your ability to produce has fallen by an amount not proportional to the drop in consumption. Now you see why the other tribes sent so few in terms of men!

> I hate to do this to you folks, but I'm going to terminate this thread here. I just can't keep my shit together any more.
> In light of the failure of the last few weekend threads, there will be NO quest thread this Saturday, nor any other Saturday in the future. This will not effect the rest of the schedule, so the next thread will be on TUESDAY, at 1600EST.
> I hope you all have a good weekend and start to the Christmas season. See you next time!

That's not to mention running a game of DnD 4e on Wednesdays. I get what you're saying though. Thanks everyone for the pep talk. I've really needed some positive re-enforcement lately.

Haha, I tried. I am not home and only have a pen though. I usually erase and redraw everything + I can't shade with this.

Hope things get better for you man, don't worry about this thread, seriously, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't fun.

Good night, Brit and get some sleep. I also hope things get better for you. Thanks for the thread as always. They are always a pleasure to partake in and one of the few things I am regularly excited for!

Give him a crude leather-tophat and a bone monocle.

I am actually embarrassed as fuck for such a shitty drawing, but I wanted to do something to cheer him up.

Maybe I will break out some good paper and take some time with pencils this weekend to make up for it. In that case, I will be sure to include your suggestion.
