You are a Magical Girl, and you've just survived a training session with Kharn the Betrayer. You have the feeling that you're lucky to be alive, and very, very lucky to be intact.

All thanks to the voices in your head - and a rather tan-skinned young woman whose soul seems to be bound in two golden bangles that turn into huge robot fists. Each the size of a Volkswagen Beetle perched on its fender, and each able to deliver the sheer impact of a battleship broadside in the form of punches.

You're not even sure how Kharn survived a solid hit like that earlier, she should've been reduced to paste with a straight like that. You even felt something crack on impact, but she looks fine - well, besides the bruises she got.

In any case, you're coming away from this experience with a new friend, two rather ostentatious-looking accessories clasped around your wrists, and...well, a couple of holes on the shoulder of your costume, from where Kharn's chainaxe had scored you. Yuu, your new friend, had taken care of the flesh wounds, but it doesn't seem like she could perform similar miracles on cloth.

Can't have everything. But hey, at least you're still alive, right?

And sane.

Somewhat.

Hopefully.
>>
You're still getting used to having regular-sized hands without autocannons hiding inside each of your metal-plated fingers when you and your little group - namely Midori and Kharn - manage to make it back to the living quarters. You hear Souji in the kitchen, talking to the...child from earlier, it sounds like. Their voices low, subdued - at least in Souji's case, that is. The child - you remember her name is Misaka - seems close to tears as it is, with that crackling slurriness that children always get whenever they're an inch to crying their eyes out.

Pity you can't understand Russian. Kharn seems to be able to, however, and you see a twinge of emotion cross the face that had been grinning at you with a rather frightening bloodlust earlier. It's almost amusing, how someone who could be so monstrous could also be...human.

"...Ah." You hear Kharn murmur, shaking her head. "Misaka is still trying to get over the fact that...you are not the Murderface she loves." The woman smiles at you with a smile resembling one of guilt, and shrugs her bare shoulders. "...I am very sorry, Murderface. This is the last thing you need, I think."

You shake your head. Not her fault, it couldn't exactly be helped.

"...Yes, well, I--"

"Murderface!"

A sharp cry from the kitchen silences Kharn, and a patter of footsteps turn your head towards the door leading to the small room - and you see the child from earlier standing there, looking up at you with eyes reddened from too much crying. Before you can move, she runs towards you, full out, her lab coat flying out from behind her. She nearly bears you to the floor as she throws her hands around your waist, burying her face into your stomach.

The sound of her crying pitifully into your costume is muffled, and yet you could hear her murmuring your name in between sobs.

"Sempai, um..." You hear Midori beside you. "Do...do you want me to take care of Misaka-chan?" You turn to see her pained expression at the girl's crying. "I'm not as good with her as you were, but I could..."

"It is usually better to just let her cry herself tired, I think. But..." Kharn gestures at you with a claw. "It is your choice, Murderface."

What do you do?

You turn towards Kharn and Midori, nodding at them each in turn, and they seem to understand your unspoken message well enough. Kharn excuses herself by making her way where the living quarters' rooms should be; Midori murmurs something about getting you something to drink as she quietly moves to the kitchen. You could use a drink, yes; that sparring match with a blade-limbed demon had taken quite a bit out of you, and you suddenly feel a thirst that needs quenching quickly.

With the both of you left alone there, you carefully lift a bangled hand - the golden band glinting in the glow of the fluorescent lighting above you - and it's gently, gingerly, that you pat her on the head. Smoothing the thick, soft brown hair of the young woman currently soaking your costume with her tears.

She shivers palpably at your touch, and you feel her arms curl around you a bit more tightly, and you take that as a sign that you haven't messed it up completely. You resume with the affectionate gesture, running your fingers through her hair, and after a while she rewards your patience with a small hiccup, as well as a brief hiatus on the waterworks.

Misaka sniffs loudly, before looking up at you, her eyes redder than before. Her cheeks nearly the same color, from all the crying.

"Murderface forgot Misaka," She murmurs, her voice hoarse. "Murderface broke her promise! Murderface promised she would never forget Misaka whatever...h-happens!"

You brush some of her hair away from her face and eyes, the strands matted to her skin with her sweat and tears, and you try your best to frame...an apology for your current situation. No, you don't have an idea what got you into this situation, nor you remember anything prior from waking up, but...clearly, your past self had promised her something that you can't keep. Not at your state.

[1/2]
>>
>>21820422

But you're sorry, you murmur, holding her gaze. You don't like apologizing for things that's not necessarily your fault, but you'll apologize to her. And you'll try your best to keep your promise this time.

"Y-you won't forget Misaka again?" She asks, holding you tighter. "Really...?"

No. You won't forget her. And to make it official...you're swear it on your new name. Not Murderface, but Chiaki Matsuda.

"Chiaki...?" Misaka repeats the name, a few times, as if trying to get used to it.

You nod. No more calling you Murderface. Murderface, whoever she was, is gone. You're not her, and while you won't try to replace her, you'll try to be just as good as...as...

You look around, and see Kharn, dabbing a towel into her wet hair - she looks like she'd jumped into a shower briefly, and was now back into her regular clothes - and she silently mouths two words at you.

...you'll try to be just as good as a big sister.

"Big...Big Sister Chiaki?" Now, Misaka's eyes are wide, seemingly amazed, forgetting what had made her cry in the first place. "Murderface will be my big sister...?"

You manage a nod at this, and you try to manage what should look like a small smile. A big sister. Exactly.

She squeals at this, jumping up and reaching up at you with both hands. You find yourself made to bow down slightly as she pulls your neck towards her - and you feel a soft pair of lips press against your cheek. "Big Sister! Misaka has a big sister, now! Misaka has to tell useless big brother who is dumb also!"

You manage to straighten up just as she all but scampers back to the kitchen. A surprised shriek from Midori, and a shout of astonishment from Souji heralds her arrival - and you hear her babbling in excited Russian. You also hear Souji's grumbling replies.

[2/3]
>>
>>21820427

"Big sister Murderface," Kharn grins as she continues to squeeze water from her freshly-washed hair. "Would never have thought to see the day, or hear of such a thing. Maybe this amnesia is a good thing, after all, eh?" She chuckles, but waves a placating hand as you frown at her. "Was joke. Really. Amnesia is bad, but...you are very kind, at least, to give yourself that role. Or did you simply want to get her to shut up with a sincere lie?"

How do you respond?

And please, call me Chiaki. Murderface makes me sound like a deranged killer, and that was probably accurate, but I think I'm going to try being a ranged killer now."

I get the sinking feeling that Murderface is currently residing in the Deagle. But since Matsuda wasn't dead, the only things that transferred over are incomplete snapshots of a person, as well as any memories of what Murderface did since before the operation (and all of whatever caused her to scream so much during the operation).
>>
>>21820488 >>21820465 >>21820457

"...Well, it is not like I do not approve, or anything..." Kharn finishes wringing her hair of water, before giving her scalp a careful scrub. "But be careful what you are hoping to do, eh, Murderface? After all, we are no longer what we appear to be." She reaches into a pocket of her lab coat with a free clawed hand - and it's with a clink of her skeletal claws that she tosses something at your direction. A bauble, no bigger than a small egg, glowing with a smoky purple light. You catch the object easily in your hand, feeling a cold weight on your palm as your fingers close upon it.

"We are the Blessed Lady's Chosen, and we are the last people to make that kind of promises."

You open your hand and glance down at the object sitting on top of your palm.

It's your Soul Gem. That much is clear.

But it's nothing like you remember.

Or at least, what you should remember. Soul Gems aren't supposed to have the brass gilding protecting the gemstone to be totally black, reminiscent of a Grief Seed. The jewel shouldn't be so dark, either, with what looks to be a small tongue of violet fire flickering at the very center of it, seemingly warding off the darkness trying to engulf it from all around.

Nor it should have the roman numeral VIII written in gold at the very base of it.

You glance up at Kharn questioningly at this, and she merely shrugs.

[1/2]
>>
>>21820834

"It is what happens. An outcome of the procedure. I believe it is harmless, as I also have something similar on mine. Maybe it is ostentation, maybe it is a mark of the Chosen." Kharn shrugs. "They do match the Golden Weapon you are given, I find. Mine has the same numeral as the chainaxes earlier, so maybe it is that."

Maybe. You flex your fingers carefully, and the Soul Gem disappears in a small gout of purple flame - one that leaps from your palm and onto the back of your right hand. Manifesting there as a nearly-flat diamond of the same darkened amethyst, gilded with gold.

At least it still works. That's some consolation.

"Alright..." Kharn begins just as Midori exits from the kitchen, a glass of some clear liquid at hand, ice cubes clinking inside along with her movement. "If you are feeling up to it, we can do interrogation with Wakaba Mirai now, I am thinking. We have let her rest for a while, already." At the russian's words, Midori very nearly tips the glass as she passes it to you, seemingly taken off-guard by the name you don't exactly recognize. You manage to take the glass before disaster strikes, however, and you give the iced drink a sip.

...Huh. No taste, no stinging burn. Just cold, tasteless liquid. And it's rather nice with your dry, parched throat.

You hold off asking about Wakaba Mirai and ask about the drink instead. What is it?

"It's...it's water, sempai," Midori says, blinking, a bit unsure as to whether you were jerking her around or not. "Iced pure water." She says after a moment, and Kharn is similarly confused too.

Well, it's delicious. You should drink more of it.

[2/3]
>>
>>21820841

"...Yes, well..." Kharn clears her throat. "What do you want to do, then, Murderface? Do you wish to interrogate this Magical Girl we captured some time ago, which had tried to kill all three of us with bears - or do you wish to do something else?" She glances at a wall clock, a digital display, near the ceiling. "We have some time before your flight back to Japan, I am thinking."

Flying back to Japan already? You were under the impression that you'd be training with her for a bit more.

"Yes, that was my thought too. But, ah, Kyuubey, you know how he is. He messaged last night, during procedure. Says he wants you back in Japan directly after the procedure. Had to call in a few favors to make sure you get stay here a bit longer than that, so you can recover."

How do you respond?
>>
>>21820848

Kharn, I feel like I'm grasping at straws here. Who is Wakaba Mirai and how does anyone try to kill someone with bears?
>>
>>21820431
I'll make it true.
Obviously I have a lot to fix that "Murderface" did wrong so I might as well get started on it right now
>>
>>21820848
"Could someone give me a quick crash course in my previous life because I'm pretty lost here. What I was like, who are the people I considered important, what are they like, are there any notable murders I have performed, and who is Wakaba Mirai and why did she try to kill us with bears, how did she even try to kill us with bears? Because bears seem like a strange weapon to use.

As for the interrogation, I honestly have no idea what information we're looking for, so I think I'll pass on that one and drink more of this water stuff. Maybe even eat my favorite food. What's my favorite food?"

Ask if our boss said why we're being recalled so soon. Rather not walk into a full-on Magical Girl War without knowing about it.

Then ask about Mirai. Our memories of her are a little faded.
Suppose we should interrogate her now, do other things later.

And this water drink! It really is good! Wonder why it seems we never drank such a delicious drink before.

>>
>>21820848

damn our ammesia! I wanted to creatively 'interrogate' Mirai by alternately dunking her soul gem into hot and cold water.

I really wanted to get our Ammesia solved before we return to japan. Having to have all our IC plans explained back to us all over again would get really annoying

Well I suppose we should do the interrogation.
>>
Was murderface's to-do list a real thing, or just something an anon was keeping track of?
>>
>>21821018
Well murderface had plans for when she became warmaster which we elaborated upon
>>
>>21821018
Just an Anon-Tracked Matsuda bucket list, as far as I recall, Murderface never wrote it down. And Midori was chasing Misaka around the hangars, so she wasn't around to hear Mami's gift suggestion.
>>
>>21821043
It'd be pretty hilarious if we had Midori keeping notes of this. Murderface would occasionally tell her our plans on being Warmaster, she jots it down into a notepad.

Now that we have amnesia, she'll surprise us with the list one day.

"What is this?" Murderface would say, which Midori responds with "Your plans as Warmaster, Sempai!"

Murderface would read the list with more attention, scrunching up her brows as she does so, and then says, "I was certainly ambitious before, wasn't I?"

"Y-yes, Sempai, you were very ambitious be... before the procedure."
>>
>>21821065
>Midori, did I REALLY say that I wanted to fuck you sideways, silly, and for hours on end in celebration of becoming warmaster?
>…
>…well, it is on the list

And then Midori died a happy magical girl.
>>
>>21820942

>Interrogation

Kharn mentioned something about a "surrogate" body that could be used for Mirai's interrogation. I'm guessing that it's pretty uncanny valley to look at, and even more horrible to realize that you're in it.

Hopefully, it won't come to this, but perhaps we could creatively use some reflective surfaces to lift some of that pride and duty stuff she has going on.
>>
>>21820848
We got time anyways, might as well talk to this bear-girl.
>>
>>21821156

It probably looks like a crash test dummy or something.

Well its going to be weird when we can't remember why we want to interrogate her.

We should try to sneak in "The Freezer" into our interrogation somehow
>>
"Let's get this interrogation over with, but you have to agree I'm in no condition to lead this off."
>>
>>21821274
Oh, and maybe we should thank Kharn for buying us time. Imagine having to do all the re-introductions and grief on a plane.
>>
Oh! Oh!
Let's do a good cop - bad cop routine with Kharn!
>>
>>21820862 >>21820870 >>21820924

Kharn blinks at you. "Well, ah, hmm. It will take a long time, I am sure, but I can probably give a quick summary, eh? Midori here can help fill the blanks, I think." She turns towards Midori, who nods eagerly, seemingly all but champing at the bit to. You follow her back to the elevator just as she sighs. "Ayah, this would have been much easier if Malal was still with us..."

Malal? Yet another name to add to the pile of people you've forgotten.

"Yes, yes, it is very sad. I will see what I can do." Kharn grumbles as she takes out her ID card. "SOUJI! Will be using Interrogation Room! Will be back in a little while!"

The young man's shouted reply is drowned out by the nearly-deafening shriek of metal grinding against metal as the lift doors slide shut. This time bringing all three of you up by a couple of floors (or at least, that's how it felt like).

By the time that the doors open once again, Midori and Kharn had given you a backstory that's a bit...less complete than you'd like. Apparently you're a Warmaster-in-training, now, a rank that meant that you were basically in charge of an entire legion of Magical Girls - a thousand of them - and that the only one ranking above you is the Incubator, pretty much. Your past hasn't been too kind to you, but you can easily tell that from how you've got all these aches and pains as you move - and you haven't been too kind to yourself, either, which you can tell by your voice. And your face. And the calluses on your hands.

Pretty much everything, really.

Midori is a bit more hesitant to talk about herself and her past, but what she tells you is enough: she was, in effect, someone who turned against her own Incubator and allied up with another. Wakaba Mirai was one of her former colleagues, sent her to take care of a green-haired loose end.

[1/2]
>>
>>21821336

All three of you hunted her down in the snow-blanketed wilderness outside, and with a concerted effort you managed to leave her as carrion for the bears she seemed to be able to summon. Kharn, being her very interesting self, took her bleached skull - which she says, you should see sometime, along with the rest of her collection - and her soul gem.

You have the slightest inkling that they're leaving quite a lot out, but Kharn had said that your memory, as it is, will fill the blanks soon enough.

In any case, you're to interrogate Wakaba Mirai - or what's left of her - and see if there's anything new you could learn from her. Who sent her, and to confirm if it was indeed Midori that she came here for - and not something else you should know.

What the elevator doors open to is a small, cramped room, painted an antiseptic white. There is a single desk with an old-fashioned PC in the center, with one swiveling seat. The rather ancient-looking CPU tower beside the bulky CRT monitor bearing one strange soul gem-shaped slot at the front.

"This is the surrogate body for captured Magical Girls," Kharn says as she steps forward, her voice curiously stifled in the small, enclosed room. "We have thought of robotic bodies, you know, something like that to give them a face and motor movement and everything, but that always turned out bad." She reaches down to tap a claw on the mechanical keyboard, and there's a brief tingle of static as the monitor switches on, displaying a small blinking cursor at the very top of the screen.

[2/3]
>>
>>21821101
Nah, Midori wouldn't do that.
>>
>>21821347

"This limits their ability to do anything else other than talk. There," Kharn gestures with a claw to the tower's strange-shaped slot, "...is where you put the Soul Gem which you are to being interrogating of."

"...It looks...a bit low tech, kind of...?" Midori says after a moment, and you can't help but agree. Incubator technology amounts to a rig you probably won't be able to play anything on...?

"Oh, it just looks this way!" Kharn grins. "It is state of the art! Come on, try and see!"

She pulls the chair out for you to sit in, and you do so. It's comfortable enough, and Kharn drops an amber soul gem into your hand. A core of darkness swirling inside the gem.

"I'm not so sure about this, sempai..." The green-haired girl murmurs beside you.

Strangely, there's a faint clicking sound, somewhere inside the room. Like a clock, or a bomb. Well, probably not the latter, but...

"Ticking noise?" Both Kharn and Midori glance at each other in silence, before the russian shakes her head. "N...no, comrade, I do not hear any ticking. It is quiet, here, and I hear nothing except for our breathing." She sniffs a moment, before adding, "...and both your beating hearts, but that is another thing entirely. They are not in any way sounding like ticking. Midori? Do you hear it?"

"N-no, Miss Valnikov, I don't," Midori replies, shaking her own head as well. "I...Miss Valnikov, you can hear heartbeats? But how--"

"It is probably something like, ah, noise fatigue, I get them from wielding chainaxes for a while." Kharn cuts the green-haired girl off. "It is okay, Murderface. There is no ticking here, or if there is, you are the only one who is hearing it, in which case it is probably nothing." She grasps the top of your backrest and jiggles it a bit. "Come on, come on! We have interrogation to do!"

Kharn's dubious explanation aside - the chainaxes were indeed loud when she activated them, but it was barely a moment or so - you figure that the clicking noise is probably another one of your worn-out body's many foibles, a small one amidst the many presents that your past self has given you. You shake your head as you reach out carefully with Mirai's soul gem, and gingerly place it into the slot.

"Push until it clicks, comrade," Kharn advises, and you follow obediently, pushing against the Soul Gem with your thumb. There's a bit of resistance, before you hear the click, and the tower CPU whines in activation as the inserted Soul Gem glows a bright amber.

Immediately the once-blank screen suddenly flashes, and a torrent of code flashes past it. Some numbers, some characters, other things you've never seen before fill the small CRT monitor's void, scrolling past in breakneck speed. There's a crackle as the Soul Gem seems to almost rebel at this treatment, but ultimately it seems to bend its will to the strange machine - and the code clears itself after what sounds like a sigh brushing past your ears.

A series of words neatly and carefully type themselves out on the screen.

>WAKABA M.> Where...where am I? What is this? I know I'm supposed to be dead...
>USER>_

"Ah, there we are. It is success." Kharn grins. "Now, ah, you just type your question with keyboard, comrade, and then press Enter. It is like internet talking, only that there is only one girl here, and no sweaty man with beard on neck pretending to be girl. Or something like that, I have heard Souji talk about them." She nods at you, gesturing at the keyboard with a claw. "Go ahead! Is totally safe."

It begins

>USER>Your physical form has been destroyed. I think Kharn is busy having fun with your skull at the moment.

>USER>I could either leave you here, in this deathless state forever, you can answer some questions. What was you other mission? Doubt you trekked all the way to Siberia just to kill Midori.

You slowly peck out a question. One that you think should be relevant here, despite the fact that you've got amnesia and everything and that you're not exactly sure how things are besides what Kharn and Midori told you.

>USER> You are not dead. Not yet.
>USER> What were your orders? How did you find us?

You press the Enter key, the button clicking solidly as you do so. Your message sent.

You didn't have to wait long for the blinking cursor to spit out Wakaba Mirai's response.

>WAKABA M> I...I was supposed to bring Midori-chan back. That's what I remember.
>WAKABA M> I was ordered to bring her back in one piece.
>WAKABA M> I didn't know she had the Ninth Warmaster with her, so I tried to scare them off.
>WAKABA M>The bears here were...strange. I could control them just fine, but they were...wilder, more bloodthirsty than the ones I'm used to. Tainted with something, I'm not sure.
>WAKABA M> I needed to get Midori-chan back, but...I...I remember being killed by a monster.
>WAKABA M> Not a Witch. A monster. Something different. I...
>WAKABA M> Who is this? What have you done to me? WHERE AM I?

"She is either panicking, or lying, or both," Kharn murmurs from above you, and you feel a warm, heavy sensation on the top of your head. "It always happens when we put them in the computer. It is a disturbing feeling, or so I am told."

You don't say, you manage to grumble despite the fact that Kharn is using you as a boob rest.

You squint at the screen, and then look down on your keyboard.

How do you proceed?
>>
>>21822017
You are in an artificial body, that monster that killed you was the previous ninth's warmaster

Apparently while we fought you said you were sent to kill Midori not return her
>>
Why not screw with her head a little? Go with something a bit... stranger.

"MIRAI WAKABA, YOU ARE DREAMING. YOU WILL SOON BE VISITED BY THE GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE WHO WILL SHOW YOU THE TRUE MEANING OF 'YOU ARE THE WORST SECRET AGENT/SPY EVER'."
>>
>>21822017

Darn. My "YOU WILL BE VISITED BY THE GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE" write-in came too late. :(

When she says that she didn't expect to encounter the 9th Warmaster... did she mean Chiaki Matsuda? Or Kharn?

We should ask Kharn and Midori how well-known our Warmaster-in-training position is. And how recent the rank was given.

...

... Also, ask them what actually happened in the fight. How the hell are we supposed to interrogate somebody when we have no idea what happened?
>>
>>21822017

your physical body has been destroyed, your soul gem has been placed inside a machine which enables us to communicate, i am the the one training to become the ninth warmaster and beside me are the one who killed you (former warmaster) and Midori.
>>
>>21822017
"Who I am beyond being the one asking you questions is irrelevant. You are still in Siberia. You are currently in an artificial body, and you will stay alive for now.
"You were ordered to terminate Hanegawa Midori and bring back her Soulgem; do not continue to lie."
>>

Poor Kharn. She must feel lonely without Malal, her favorite boob rest.

To Kharn: Get off me.
To Mirai: You're lying. Tell me why you were really sent here. Now.

Stop there and leave the unspoken threat hanging.

You try to ignore being used as a piece of furniture long enough to ask Kharn about the effectiveness of such an interrogation method. Shouldn't it be better to just put the captive Magical Girl in another body, instead of a machine like this? Without you able to discern if they're lying or not through their body language and expressions, then you're going to be stuck here for a long time, typing out questions that you will never get a real answer for.

"Ah, see, that is beauty of it." Kharn reaches out with one claw to gently tap on the glowing Soul Gem slotted in the tower CPU. "What we see here, the black screen, the white letters...it seems like nothing, when we are here, at the other side of it, right? Wakaba Mirai is in there," She then taps the screen of the monitor with an armored knuckle. "All she can perceive is darkness. All she can see are those letter, her words and yours. All your senses confined to that, you cannot feel or hear or see or taste or touch anything else."

A moment more, and she Kharn back from you finally - the warm weight on top of your head being removed as she straightens up. "It is a very unsettling and disturbing experience, like I have said. Many Magical Girls have been broken in mere minutes, and have never really recovered from it. Now, how can you lie when your entire being is reduced to this? It is very hard."

"That...but that's cruel..." Midori shakes her head, eyes wide. "To be trapped in that thing..."

"Cruel, but necessary." Kharn nods. "At the very least, it is a far cry from using knives, or bastinado, or anything as brutish. We get what we need, very quickly, without any lasting physical damage." A grin. "It should not surprise you at all that Kyuubey thought of this."

...Yes. You shouldn't be surprised. Not at all.

>WAKABA M.> Hello? I know you're here
>WAKABA M.> Please respond
>WAKABA M.> Please

You glance towards Midori. She looks back at you, before shaking her head - while also turning a slight crimson.

"I...well, sempai, what I remember is that..." The green-haired girl swallows hard, as if having a difficult time reading the letters on the screen - or stomaching what they meant. "...Mirai told us that Jyuubey wanted me dead, if I weren't coming back voluntarily. She sent the bears at us. The both of us...w-welll, you took care of the bears, while Miss Valnikov took care of her. That's...that's all I remember, sorry."

You nod at this as you turn back to the keyboard, biting your lower lip. You think you know how to proceed.

"...That did not take too long. I think that is record," Kharn muses, making a show of looking at her cellphone. "But see? It does not take them long to break. You should trust me more often, Murderface." You feel a cold metallic hand clamp down on your scalp, and you barely supress a shiver at the eerie sensation.

You are about to reply when the screen flashes again. Displaying a single line of new text.

>10> I presume this is the Ninth Warmaster I'm talking to?

Your hands curling over the keyboard, you don't even look at the keys anymore as you type out one word. One single word that had to be typed, a single message that needed typing.

>USER> dickbutt
>USER> dickbutt gtfo

"Uh, Murderface?" Kharn murmurs after a moment of all three of you watching the blinking cursor. "What is that being--" But you shush her immediately before she could complete her sentence, a focused anger inside you demanding that you are not to be disturbed. Kharn raises an eyebrow at you, but keeps quiet nonetheless.

A few more moments, and then a reply.

>10> I'm sorry, what?
>10> ...Cute. Yes. Name-calling. Very mature.
>USER> dickbutt gtfo

"Sempai, um, maybe we should try--" Midori starts, but you silence her with a glare. She shrinks back at this, and you turn back to the monitor.

>10>...Please let me talk to the current Warmaster.
>10> It's very important that we get to talk.
>10> And please, try to curb yourselves from the temptation of severing this connection.
>10> Should you do so by removing Wakaba Mirai's Soul Gem, it will detonate.
>10> Killing her, you, and whoever's in there with you. And everything else for a couple of miles.
>10> Let's try to be civil, for a change. I know how the Ninth Incubator's officers operate.

Kharn laughs. "Hah! This guy, this guy! He is very funny, I am thinking!" She glances at the sparking Soul Gem set inside the tower. "Was just about to try and pull it out, too!"

...Well, is he bluffing, or is that something that could actually happen?

"I am not very sure! But, ah, it is very exciting, yes? Right, Midori?" There's a clank of metal as Kharn rests her hand on Midori's shoulder, the girl having gone quite pale. "Ah, but in any case, we can make a run for it! Elevator doors can withstand bomb explosion, you know!"

That's sort of reassuring.

"Although, if sensors detect explosion, doors may seal behind us to keep damage confined to this room only, instead of base. So, is hard to say either way!"

That's not reassuring at all.

"S-sempai, um...maybe you should talk to him..." Midori's voice is barely above a whisper, but you can see that she's scared.

Yes. Maybe. That's a good idea.

You do that, then. You forgo the name-calling for now.

>USER> Midori is mine and you can't have her

Kharn guffaws again at this, and you turn to snap at her. She's ruining your concentration here.

All you see as you turn, though, is Midori looking away, blushing furiously.

"YES! It is second lesson as Warmaster, Murderface!" Kharn laughs as she pats your shoulder, more painfully than she probably meant to. "Being Warmaster means you are, like, owner of harem! You have all these girls, and you must make sure that they never set eyes on anyone else but you! You must be possessive, like an overzealous lover who will slit the throat of anyone who even dreams of laying a hand on one of your women!"

>10> Still, no harm done, right? You got a bit of fun out of it, I'm sure. It was harrowing at my end. Imagine seeing someone like the Betrayer bearing down on you with her chainblade?

As you wait for a response, you tell Kharn about the possibility of this little interrogation turning completely ass-upwards, and ask her if she has any countermeasures you could use. She nods.

"Yes, okay. Ah...hmm." She brings out her smartphone and carefully taps at the screen. "I have notified Souji. He is alarmed, of course, but he is willing to permit use of our short-range teleporter to get us out of here in case of explosion. As soon as I tell him to, it will activate, and send us to safety."

A...short range teleporter? Well, now we're talking advanced. That's high-tech stuff, right there. You feel a bit safer--

"...Of course, it is a bit untested as of yet, so there is chance of us ending up somewhere we should not be. But is small chance!" Kharn holds the tips of a thumb claw and an index claw a hair's breadth apart. "Very small!"

No, safe feels are gone. No more safe feels.

By all rights, Midori should be dead. You would have discarded her. Yet now you discover that her captors have given her new purpose, and now you're objecting because you didn't have the foresight to plan for Midori's safety.

You did not make your intentions known before her turnover, and are now only voicing your objective. You were willing to write her off as a loss. Now, she is lost to you either way.

Incubators can always make more contracts, correct? Just go farm out other potentials for more Callidus. Perhaps you may even encounter a potential Culexus.

There's no reason -aside from the fact that you keep annoying and threatening me - why we can't do business if you need a Callidus for something specific, though, you should probably be talking to my Incubator about that.

But, allow me to make one thing perfectly clear: You. Can't. Have. Midori.

Makes me wonder why Jyubey wants Midori so bad. From what we've been told, Calliduses are the equivalent of red headed stepchildren in the magical girl hierarchy. If she were a Culexus, that would be understandable since they're rare and powerful as fuck.

Before you type your response, Kharn grips your shoulder.

"Comrade, you are saying no, yes? You cannot seriously contemplate giving Midori over to another Incubator?"

You glance up at her, your eyes narrowed. What does she think?

"...Right." Kharn grins. "Midori, wait for us outside, in elevator." She looks down at her smartphone, tapping on its surface a few times. "The teleporter is set to bring us back next to you. Once we are there, get the elevator to the surface. Do not delay, okay?" Kharn hands a black plastic keycard to the green-haired girl, who nods, swallowing audibly. "We may be unconscious, or something strange, when we reappear, but no matter what you go up! Surface!"

"R-right. To the surface, Miss Valnikov." Midori nods, an expression of determination set on her face. "Sempai, please take care, a-and...and thank you."

You hear her footsteps recede behind you, followed by the creak of the elevator doors opening for her.

"Right. This is suicidal, you know."

Of course.

"We may die, comrade."

You're aware of that.

"You, ah, really like her, then? It is like you to speak like this to an Incubator, but to be so protective of someone else...well, it is new."

You hope it doesn't get to be a habit.

"Hah! Right. Well, whenever you are ready, comrade."

You turn back towards the screen, and type out your last message to the Tenth Incubator.

As soon as you press return do you reach out and grasp the sparking Soul Gem, ignoring the brief sting of electricity as your fingers close over the jewel. With luck, you'll be able to rip the Soul Gem out and kill the connection before Jyuubey can do anything.

You've barely started to pull when you see the screen flicker again.

>WAKABA M.> NO PLEASE NO
>WAKABA M.> PLEASE I WANT TO GO HOME
>WAKABA M.> MIDORI PLEASE DON'T LET ME DIE
>WAKABA M.> JYUUBEY PLEASE

It's then that you hear it. The clicking. It had softened to a barely noticeable murmur earlier, but now it was practically deafening. A rapid, fevered clicking. Not a bomb, or a clock. Something...something with clockwork. Gears grinding against each other. Straining. Gnashing.

You feel a heavy weight on your arm, and you blink at the scarred, circular Shield that had suddenly appeared there, clamped securely. You've never seen it before, but you feel like you should have.

You look up to see the monitor filling with words, crying out for help again and again. Then just letters. Numbers. Jumbled nonsense. One sentence seems to flicker at you from all the chaos, however.

The concussive bang of teleportation almost knocked you out, but somehow you stayed conscious.

Half-blind, - the teleportation itself erupted in front of you like a bomb, barely giving you enough time to shield your eyes - you crawl towards the groaning form at the floor of the elevator. You don't forget your duties, of course - you all but nearly break something as you force the lift to go up, up, up. To safety. Back to the surface.

"Sempai?" You try, reaching out to grab something. A hand, a shoulder. Please let them be safe. "Sempai, are you--"

What you grab is cold metal, instead. You feel yourself go even colder as you hear Kharn's whisper.

"Murderface is still in there. She was left behind."

The sirens that blare moments afterward blocks the entire world out before you could.

"WITCH DETECTED. WITCH DETECTED IN PREMISES. ALERT. WITCH DETECTED--"

You are a Magical Girl.

You have to laugh at the fact that Deculture basically introduced this character just to kill her off for cheap drama. I'm not sure what's more pathetic, Deculture's cheap drama or the fact that you people are eating it up.
>>
>>21824881
Nah man they shouldnt be sad over some who has already tried to kill us once and is NOW trying again. This is why it is funny
>>
>>21824905
I still say he should have killed off Midori for our mistake.
>>
>>21824913
She was being possessed against her will to kill her friend, homie.

Oh dear mutant cat we Midori now.

I'm fairly sure that drama happened because Decu had the perfect opportunity.
I'm also fairly sure that lamenting over Mirai is a simple going with the flow
>>
>>21824913
Mirai was never trying to kill us. She's been used as an unknowing conduit for jyubey to attack us twice.

Reading Comprehension, amigo

Nah, he'll just use MIdori as bait to force our hand on more decisions. Do this or Midori dies, do that or Midori dies, etc.
Honestly I'm considering voting against Midori just to fuck with him.

I'm pretty sure that Dec had something planned for successful negotiation. It was kind of obvious that we missed a potential good end because everyone was acting out of spite rather than reason.

So, Jyubey is damn incompetent or so good that we don't understand its actions.
>>
>>21825023
Probably, but the whole exchange really cracked me up, so I'd say it was worth it on one level or another. Unless Chiaki dies. Which...seems to be a possibility.

Anyway, I can't really see an outcome in which we would actually willingly give Midori up, so I'm not sure what we could have done aside from at least make it civil.
>>
>>21825023
"Successful negotiation" would have probably ended in a backstabbing anyway. I'm thinking Deculture is trying to put Chiaki in a situation similar to Kharn and that bitch who wanted Mami. Regardless of the choice, shit hits the fan regardless.

With Kharn's case, you need to remember that It happened in a flashback.
Shit would curve for the fan either way

Oh god, the next Thread will be in Midori-Vision.

>mfw

I enjoy greatly how Chiaki seems to be slightly different than Murderface and that she seems to see her past self as pretty conterproductive.
I am a bit sad about the fact that we failed to rescue Mirai, though with us acting retarded instead of diplomatic it makes sense. On the other hand, trying to take our Midori is a no-no.

The Tenth better prepare his anus, Incubator-Hunting-Season is now fucking on!
>>
So it occurs to me that pissing off all the other Officios is actually relatively in-line with Chiakifacemura's long-term 'fuck the mutant cats' goal.
>>
The real question is why Amnesia-Matsuda gives a fuck about Midori. She doesn't remember her at all and has no real reason to defend her so viciously.
>>
>>21825081
I meant "good" in a contextual sense, generally meaning "not absolutely terrible for everyone involved" given the genre. You should have been able to infer that. You also need not capitalize every word you type out, as it is tedious to read, you obnoxious fucking swine.
>>
>>21825023
Dickbutt had nothing we wanted and offered something unreasonable. Fuck 'im; it's not like magical girls aren't made to kill witches.
>>
>>21825145
Out of spite, obviously.

Why should we give anything to that pathetic, begging, mutant?
>>
>>21825145
I'd chalk it up to instinct.
>>
>>21825069
Gee, I dunno. How about trying to calm down a panicking, despairing magical girl (read: protowitch)?

Or at least not deliberately aggravating the situation when we already knew there were two different kinds of bomb in the room?
>>
>>21824989
>>21824956
Excellent thread, chap. Looking forward to the next.
>>
>>21825212
... I guess we kind of fucked up on that.
>>
>>21825145
Imprinting. She made us pancakes when we were completely emotionally bare.
And we protect our own, even if we don't remember them.

Also
>implying Mirai wasn't a hope spot.
>>
>>21825212
Then again, it looked like the Tenth was actually in controll of Mirai. I'm not sure if she was able to read anything of what we were saying.
>>
Poor Misaka
>>
>>21825212
Which falls under 'making it civil. Which Chiaki has never been good at, honestly. We also weren't really getting the chance to calm her down thanks to Jyuubey.
>>
>>21825212
We were occupied by dickbutt and he kept us on the line.

Don't pull that hindsight is 20/20 faggotry here, anon.
>>
>>21825212
None of us considered the witch possibility because interrogations usually happen in Silent Rooms.

We could have been less of a dick to Mirai at the start, maybe let Midori talk to her before 10 butted in, or tried to calm her down right before she witched out, but who knows if it would have ended any different.
>>
Shit, did everyone get out alright? I think Souji might still be in the building.
>>
>>21824956

See you next thrend and congrats for you getting your old schedule back
>>
>>21825212
In hindsight, the 10th was clearly trying to piss off Matsuda like Ahriman was trying to goad Kharn into attacking in that flashback. Though I imagine that even if we kept our cool (never going to happen), he'd just detonate the witch bomb anyway.
>>
>>21825266
Yo, we acted procedural.
It's exactly as >>21824898

We trusted that shit like Incubator hijacking the interrogation system won't be happening
>>
>>21825255
>>21825266
>>21825277

Well alright.

This was probably planned by Jyubey, since he got into our system through Mirai in the first place.
>>

I like how Kharn managed to change from "most likeable Sidecharacter" when she was first introduced to "Second-most retardedly-annoying maincharacter after Iori Minase" right now.

I swear to fucking good, if we lose Midori or any other Meguca due to Kharns "HURR, DONT WORRY COMRADE, IT WILL BE ALRIGHT IF WE PUSH THE RED BLINKING BUTTON AT THE SIDE OF THE WEAPON WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ABOUT IT"-Shit, she will get her ass handed to her even before we murderize the Tenth and Coobie.

a) Obviously to find out what the secret of the facility is with the option to share or withhold that knowledge from our crush
b) to see Chiaki Matsuda die.
c) to see what is going inside Midori`s head before her Deathflag is raised for more misery.
d) to find the real Akemi Homura who is right now chilling in the Sarcophagus and help her defeat and a crazed and witchified Chiaki Matsuda
e) All of those above.

Hello, thread.

I still have the to-do list I was keeping, but since we started ignoring it pretty much minute one after the flashback ended, I figured no-one cared and stopped posting about it.

I don't recall offhand. Roughly, at the start of the Kharn flashback, give or take a couple threads?
>>

Add to that list "STAY ALIVE!"

I don't think Jyubey was one for negotiating. He seems like the smarmy type who bandies around authority just because he can. Even if we were diplomatic, I don't think he would have let Midori go. Seems like more an issue of pride rather than for Midori's usefulness as a Callidus.
