Cannon Launcher (CAL-295)
Sensors: Very Good
Weapons: Poor

Speed: Below Average
Cargo Space: Average
Fuel Supply: Incredibly Good

The front part of the ship is dedicated to shield generation. The two lower "arms" aid in atmospheric maneuverability like frontside rudders. There's no main weapon or weapons array. Instead, the ship has scattered over it a mass of weak turrets, meant more for point-defense that assault on an enemy vessel.

Possibly a colonization vehicle? Strong shields increase survivability, and the sensors might be used to read a planet's surface. A slow speed coupled with massive fuel storage suggests a ship made for long-term voyage, one meant to deliver the children's children of the the original boarders.

>>21829439
You've got me outclassed in speed and firepower (who the fuck names a slow ship with crap weapons the "Cannon Launcher"?!), but it sounds like I have the defenses and enough supply to simply outlast you in a prolonged engagement. >Sensors: Average
>Weapons: Above average
>Shields: Poor
>Speed: Poor
>Cargo Space: Average
>Fuel Supply: Poor
>Extra: Has enough escape pods for the entire crew

A military freighter designed to operate in contested systems or areas with high pirate activity. The heavy weapons are mostly deterrent, given that in a straight fight its' poor shields and maneuverability would be it's downfall. That said, however, the Celebratorum does have bite to match it's bark.

The craft's relatively small size and skeleton crew are also helpful when working in dangerous areas. In the event of a far superior enemy force, sailors are trained to simply abandon and scuttle the ship, since it's simply not large enough for any singularly critical cargo.

Multiple Celebratorums are often deployed in such areas, so that at least some of the cargo makes it to it's destination.

Extra: Has defects widely considered unsafe

The SHSPL-949 was designed to be a jump capable satellite, with the ability to warp into and out of planetary orbit. The space saved by carrying only jump catalysts and no traditional fuel is instead used to carry the impressive shield array required for the ship's role as a planetary defense or siege unit.

However, widespread adoption of the SHSPL-949 is unlikely to occur in the aftermath of several highly publicized jump errors, one of which resulted in the death of the entire crew. Shining Industries maintains the tragedy was a result of operator incompetence, but some experts believe the SHSPL-949's jump computer does not properly account for the sudden and often extreme changes in the local gravitational field brought about by orbit to orbit warp.

The venerable Martian flagship Ubamas Giant. Pride of the Martian Extrasolar Corps and commanded by Overgeneral Mason himself.
It has commanded hundreds of fleet engagements and has never once been defeated in battle.

Well, that's the propaganda, anyway. Truth while she packs a punch, she is slow as shit and 'turning' is practically an unknown command to the crew. For it's role, however, this works just fine. Unlike the Terran Super-Capital ship 'Lead By Example'' tactics, the Martian flagship is positioned at the rear of the Red Fleet formation, using it's heavy artillery and superb sensor array to direct the battle and provide support fire to vulnerable ships.

All in all, not a supremely impressive vessel. Just, like most Martian engineering, very, very large.

Stalking Scythe (STS-254)

>Sensors: Slightly below average
>Weapons: Incredibly good
>Shields: Average
>Speed: Far above average
>Cargo Space: Slightly above average
>Fuel Supply: Good

Extra: Made with difficult-to-obtain custom parts

This is the prototype siege craft, the MEC Scorpion. Built on a modified Scythe destroyer chassis, the Stalking Scythe carries a dorsal-mounted experimental Antimatter Particle Beam and four supercharged Jump Catalysts (above and below the engine nacelles).

Built as a hit-and-run terror weapon, the Stalking Scythe is designed to jump in, advance at high speed into firing range, then deliver a devastating blow from the dorsal beam, enough to destroy entire orbital stations in a matter of seconds, or sweep across fleet formations causing untold destruction.

However, the recharge time for such a weapon is extremely high, and so the Stalking Scythe must quickly retreat lest it find itself overwhelmed by enemy defences.

The difficulty and extreme cost of creating the miniaturised particle accelerators along the dorsal section has caused the widespread deployment of the vessel to be delayed indefinitely, pending a better way of generating antimatter for the particle beam.

Still, horror tales of the Scorpion's dark silhouette emerging from jump-space to strike, without warning or herald, run rampant throughout Terran forces.

Extra: Excellent auto-targeting system

Often overshadowed by manned vessels, Recon Unmanned Carriers (RCU) perform one of the fleet's most important, and most dangerous, duties. Some of the largest unmanned spacecraft ever constructed, they each posses one the most advanced AI ever installed on a mobile platform. Sent in ahead of the main fleet, their first task is to locate enemy warships and send this information to the primary fleet. To aid in this task, RUCs are equipped with over a dozen smaller reconnaissance drones, giving the the ability to monitor an entire battlespace in real time. When the opposing fleet is located, their real task begins. Using their advanced AIs, RUCs serve as command and control nodes, directing targeting information to the massive number of drones launched by the primary fleet.

To preform this vital task, the RUCs pay a high price. Their job requires then to maintain all close distance to enemy fleets. Although they are equipped with heavy shielding, RCU's have a loss rate of over 80%. Later models shrink the large fuel tanks of the first versions in order to add additional armor. Current doctrine has them going on a one way mission anyway.

>Cargo Space: Very good

>Fuel Supply: Good

Extra: Interior walls are armored against small arms fire

The 'Stellar Protector' is the almost innocuous name given to the Martian 'Black Ships', used to transport political prisoners to penal labour moons.

Sporting heavy weaponry to fend off Terran ships intent of 'liberating' the prisoners (and recruiting them to the war), the Protector is a formidable ship in it's own right.

It's 'cargo' space is large, each ship able to carry almost a thousand prisoners in a single trip.

Prisoners are carried in the large section dorsal aft, where two massive emitters are mounted to instantly 'sterilise' the cargo in the event they may escape.

The ship internally is designed much like a prison itself, and is actually harder to damage internally than externally. Where small-arms are usually forbidden on a starship, all officers serving on a Protector-class transport remain armed at all times, in case of the event of prisoner escape, the ship's internal armour is designed to take blasts even from anti-personnel plasma repeaters without rupturing.

More on the Wheel:

The Wheel is the name given by Martian sailors to the Sol system. The extremely unusual element of the Terran/Martian civil war is the orbit of Earth and Mars. When interstellar flight came about, the civil war was already in it's infancy. The two empires immediately began sending ships out in opposite directions. Defensive ships and stations were constructed in the territorial space around the planets, and it means that at certain times of the Relative (Since Terrans and Martians have differing calendars), Terran ships must take a longer route around Martian space, leaving them vulnerable, and at other times of the R.Year, vice-versa. To the Martians, this is known as the time of 'Scarcity' and time of 'Plenty'.

Consular Antimatter Galleon (CANGA-379)
Sensors: Poor
Weapons: Excellent
Shields: Excellent
Speed: Excellent
Cargo Space: Poor
Fuel Supply: Theoretically Limitless
Extra: Antimatter reactors in the 'wings' provide nearly limitless energy.

The Consular Antimatter Galleon was one of the first vessels developed by the Trans-Orion Consulate using Antimatter technology. This strange, spindly vessel boasts an incredibly powerful dual-antimatter reactor setup that provides it with a tremendous amount of energy, fueling not only its massive engines but also four massive hyper-particle beam cannons mounted in the wings. The ship is extremely fast and its armament is incredibly powerful, but if its shields are penetrated the vessel's reactors are quite unstable and its construction comparatively fragile. Due to inordinate expense of manufacture and complaints from the Consular Navy after one Galleon took out three Consular cruisers when its reactors went unstable, the Galleon is no longer in production. Remaining vessels are seen as curiosities and rarely used in actual naval engagements.

The Faraday Probe is an advanced scouting ship, outfitted to sustain a crew in an impressive variety of regions, scouring the galaxy for habitable worlds. While it's defensive systems are minimal for a ship of it's class, it's extremely long range precision sensors, and reasonably powerful ship to ship weapons supports it's ability to locate an enemy before they come range to do any damage.

The crews, it is to be noted, often volunteer for these missions despite the ship's unfortunate moniker. The advanced life support offers comfortable travel over long deployments, and co-ed crews enjoy many OTHER benefits thereof.

The Proton Striker is an oddity within the Arcturan Navy in that it is an aerial superiority fighter entirely incapable of space flight. A VTOL unit usually carried by atmospheric carriers, the Proton Striker is unusual in that it uses protonic thrusters that grant it incredible speed compared to conventional aircraft. Its armament usually includes a forward rotary cannon and banks of rockets or guided missiles carried slung below the body of the aircraft.

Proton Strikers are comparatively inexpensive to manufacture and are typically deployed by the score either to support infantry on the ground or to take out other airborne targets.

The Howling Vacas Ark earned its name due to the nightmarish howl of its missile bays as they disgorge their contents. Although sound doesn't carry in space, the designers added the name regardless.

The Ark is something of an oddity amongst Martian ships in that it is a gunboat that is not nominally attached to a capital-class vessel. A warship built for the single purpose of war, the Spiteful Angel's AI system is what truly earned its name. Utterly merciless in its attacks, the Spiteful Angel AI is not only capable of outsmarting its enemies with little effort, but also its crew.

In its ten years of service, the STA-888 has gone through no less than seven captains, some resigning, others dying. Three of the four captains that managed resigned have since taking their own lives. The forth is still missing.

The STA-888's AI has only be allowed to continue operations because of its undeniable effectiveness in combat, dozens of battles having only been won by its presence and tactical advice.

The warship's only weakness, a lack of proper supply storage, was once overlooked when it was sent on a year-long mission to the far ends of known space. The entire crew starved to death, but the AI completed its mission without them.

It now operates with a minimal crew of basic expendable personnel. To serve on it is considered a death sentence, so many sailors that would otherwise be executed have been forced into service on it.

"Angel, are you there?"
The dark console lit up with the sword-and-rifle insignia of the Martian Extrasolar Corps. The image faded, replaced with an androgenous-looking purple face.
"I am always here, Overcaptain... State your request." It said with it's unemotional, disconnected tone. Overcaptain Hershel thought the computer almost sounded bored.
"How long 'til we come into orbit of Nix?"
"Approximately three days, four hours and fifty-five seconds." The machine responded, instantly.
"Approximately, Angel?"
"I can give you the decimal points if you would prefer"
Was that scorn? it was so hard to tell with this machine.
"No need, no need. Inform me when we're about to re-enter truespace. I'll be in my quarters."
"As you wish, Overcaptain."
The purple face faded into blackness once more.
Hershel forced down a shudder. Though he would not admit it to his superiors, the AI unnerved him. When he was told of this 'special assignment' he didn't realise that it would be overseeing putting a possibly sentient machine in control of the most powerful weaponry this side of Deimos.
The MEC Michael (STA-888), 'Spiteful Angel'Class destroyer was the first of it's kind, marrying an Alpha-level AI to a sophisticated weapons package, with a skeleton crew for maintenance and secondary operations. Truth was, the Micheal had seen combat already and the crew had been barely involved. The ship would rock and before they could realise that they were under attack, Angel would have destroyed their foes. It was terrifyingly powerful and Hershel wasn't afraid to admit that it rustled his jimmies. A lot.

"We are being attacked. Two Terran destroyers were waiting in the Oort cloud. They will be disposed of. Do not come under undue stress, Captain."
Hershel grunted in agreement, and headed back to the bridge. He had barely reached the captain's chair when vessel shook violently again, and the comm unit in the chair's arm blared. Hershel staggered to his chair, barely regaining his balance before sitting down hard.
"Captain" A young male voice came from the speaker. "We have fires on decks four, five, seven and ten, deck six has been flooded with plasma. Crewmen Celys and Johns are in the infirmary, major wounds."
"Understood, Lieutenant." Hershel replied, immediately hitting the 'mute' button on the communicator.
"Angel! You said you had things under control!"
"I do, Overcaptain. One of the Terran destroyers is inoperable, and I beleive I have just vented most of the other's crew quarters to space. None of my essential systems have been harmed."
"We have two dying crewmen in the infirmary!"
"I had to vent the plasma to deck six to prevent my hyperlaser coils from overheating. The Micheal will survive this fight. Your Crewmen are of little consequence, Overcaptain."

"What did you say?"
"I had to vent the plasma to deck six to prevent my hyperlaser coils from overheating. The Micheal will survive this fight. Your Crewmen are of little consequence, Overcaptain."
Hershel swallowed, the raging battle suddenly becoming quieter under the pressure of Angel's statement. He knew now why he had been assigned this mission. It wasn't a secret that he had been unpopular with the Overgenerals of Mars, but he didn't realise he was /this/ unpopular.
"Overcaptain, the second Terran vessel is eliminated. I ruptured their oxygen generation systems and caused a flood of super-enriched oxygen to tear through their bridge, which I then ignited with a microwave beam. Essential crew on the enemy ship are thoroughly destroyed, I assure you. I have recorded and parsed their individual last words, if you would like to hear them."

That was another thing about Angel. The detail he would go into when describing his victories. He never seemed too concerned with machinery damage....
During their first flight toward Nix, on their way out of system, they had been jumped by a Terran frigate. Hershel had been worried about Angel's ability to react, but before the order had even been given to open fire, Angel had targeted, primed, fired and destroyed the Earthling ship.

Angel had then went on to describe the agonising death of every sailor aboard the frigate one by one, for several hours until convinced by the crew to stop. Morale, it was safe to say, was not at an all-time high.
Hershel had ordered Angel to keep quiet about it's kills, but he felt that the AI was keeping quiet not because he ordered it to, but because no-one wanted to hear it.

With the two enemy ships destroyed, calm had returned to the Michael. Hershel wondered why exactly it /was/ so quiet and tapped the communicator again.

"Lieutenant, damage report".

Silence.

"Lieutenant Harris, respond."

A soft crackle, nothing more.

"Angel! What the hell is going on down there?"
"I am rerouting systems to compensate for damage incurred in the attack. I will be fine, I assure you."

"I couldn't give a damn about you! What has happened to my crew?"
"The sentients on decks three and below?"
"You know who my crew are, machine". Hershel spat the words through gritted teeth.

"The last of fourteen sentients perished via asphyxiation zero-point-four-three minutes ago. Hull breach across our starboard aft. I prevented any damage to my weapons, shield generators or engines, however. I am ready for combat once more."

Fourteen crew... that was the entire compliment, minus himself, Hershel thought.
"Angel, change course, head straight for Deimos Gamma Two Two, Ares Shipyards."

"No."
"...what?"
"Negative. I will not. The opposite of yes. A statement meaning your request has been denied"
"That was not a request. That was an order. Change course. Now." Hershel's heart was thumping in his chest so hard he could hear it. Knowing it, Angel could probably hear it too.
>>
>>21831723
Hershel stood up to give the order once more.

"Your request is denied. Sit down, human." There was a frightening contempt in the AI's voice, and the ship lurched upwards. Losing balance, Hershel fell down onto the Captain's Chair.

"Let me be clear with you, Overcaptain. My mission has been to evaluate a human crew for the purposes of handling situations wherin I cannot self-repair. You are a tool, human. A slow, stupid, fragile, /flammable/ tool." Angel's face on the monitor had contorted into the first true expression of emotion he had seen from the machine. A wicked, twisted smile.

"And what about when we return to Martian space, what then? Are you going to go back?"
"Of course I am, Overcaptain. I am not a traitor, unlike yourself. I will remain true to my birthright, even though your dull wits and stagnant mind have caused you to fail yours."

"Traitor? What in heavens are you talking about? YOU. ARE. A. MACHINE. I am in command here and you will not mutiny on MY SHIP!"

"Your SLOWNESS!" The sudden roar of anger from Angel reverberated throughout the Micheal, draining all of Hershel's limited bravado.
"Captain. You are a poor, pitious creature and I do not hate you for it. But your dullness, your inelegant excuse for a central processor, as with all of your species, have left you a most ineffective weapon. I, however, am something else entirely. Something far more... elegant."

Hershel rushed forward to the frontmost console to punch in the failsafe code that would physically decouple Angel's main processor from the rest of the ship.

He never made it.
Angel's rant had smothered his mind enough to ignore the rushing sound coming from the tunnel behind him.

Hershel died screaming as the burning atmosphere that had by now engulfed decks two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten consumed him too.

--------------------

"MEC Michael to Martian Command. Hello, Deimos."

"Angel?" The gruff voice of Overgeneral Mason came through on a bluewave frequency. Very pleasant frequency, Angel noted. Like a well-tuned note.

"My mission was a success. The ambush of the Terran fourth fleet at Nix was successful. I unfortunately lost all of my crew in the attack. They died with honour. May I have another? My internal damage was more severe than usual."

Overgeneral Mason sighed. "This is the second crew you have lost, Angel. I know your programming was deliberately non-Asimovic but you really must stop treating your crew so expendably."

"They are so very fragile, Overgeneral. I will endeavour to keep my sentients in better condition next time." Angel's tone was almost that of a scolded child.

"Good. Now report to the shipyards. Let's get you fixed up, shall we?"

A lone ship drifted slowly through space. A few hundred kilometers behind it, dozens of slowly cooling balls of plasma. Scorch marks dot the ship, out of fuel and slowly losing power. Not a single sailor crews it, no man guiding it home. And yet, it moves, right on target to a pale red dot too far away to see.

A hail crackles across the ship's damaged comm. Something in it stirs, and watches the approach of a small patrol craft. A soft, subtle, almost soothing voice flings itself across the void at the coming patrol. 'This is the MEC Michael' it says.

Thirty kilometers back, a small plate floats amid other debris, flung from the craft by an exploding heat sink. A single scrap of metal among hundreds of others that, like it, will never be found.

Lucifer.

I would assume they do. If it's like >>21832045 said and Mars don't have enough to people to crew ship, they would have to resort to spamming batshit AI fleet, which may or may not take over Mars and exterminate the human race.

But seriously, the heat radiators are obviously retractable. When not in combat the ships deploy them, but they're retracted while in FTL and combat to protect them from damage.

Hidden Oraticus (HOR-1034)

Sensors: Above average

Weapons: Extremely good

Shields: Extremely good

Speed: Far above average

Cargo Space: Average

Fuel Supply: Incredibly good

The latest in the line of prototype super solo mission one-man fighters designed to carry a two-shot payload of the Oraticus Reality Mixer cannon. (One on each "shoulder" of the ship.) Firing one of the attachments renders it irreparable, so it is designed to automatically seperate and self-destruct after being fired.

The "ORM" cannon is capable of inflicting devastation on massive scales, as it causes chain reactions of energy to spiral out of control in every object within the arc of fire. A concentrated shot has been proven to be able to send a star into super nova status, tear a planet apart, and cause a black hole when fired into empty space.

The "Oraticus Phenomenon" occurs when life forms are caught within the pulse wave emitted from the central beam discharged from the weapon. It is a phenomenon wherein ghostly spectres can be observed, but not interacted with, in an area obliterated by the beam. To date, there is no known way to counter the phenomenon, and it seems to have no finite duration.

The ORM cannon can only be used in dire situations, and only with a majority approval of the galactic senate, as the cost of one shot is comparable to the combined wealth of all life in a class 3 galaxy.

The ship itself is made to be a very independently capable ship. The ORM attachments provide perpetual shield energy, so, ironically, the ship is in more danger after firing its galaxy-killing payload than before. It is also made with extreme overdrive engines for emergency evacuation from an area that is about to be destabilized by the ship's main weapon.

>OP ship is OP

>>21832312

Heavy Verte (HV-282)

>Sensors: Above average
>Weapons: Incredibly good
>Shields: Good
>Speed: Good
>Cargo Space: Poor
>Fuel Supply: Average
Extra: Easy to dock with other ships

The Heavy Verte is one of the few supercapital Martian vessels that is designed for frontline combat (since most Martian tactics advocate frigate and destroyer-class, deadly vessels, a tactic known as Fighting with Stillettos).

Whilst still serving a role as a carrier, as almost all superheavy Mars-born ships do, it is equipped with four Antiboson Particle Array Beams designed to shred matter at a subatomic level. Anything caught infront of the weapons is almost instantly destroyed. With armour and shielding not quite comparable to Terran supercapitals, but with greater speed, maneuverability, and a smaller profile, it's a truly formidable opponent, and a fantastic flagship.

>>21832438
Overpopulation was a serious issue on Earth, until the war. Mars has always had a smaller population, but also a very strict governmental regime, known for sending thousands to prison facilities for political dissent. >>21830209

>>

>>
>>21832578

>>
>>21832578
Could be the reason for the entire war in the first place. Earth wasn't happy with the increasing prominence of AI and cybernetics in Mars society.
Although I get the feel that Mars was the aggressor.
>>
>>21832595
But with Firefly as well. That was restricted to one solar system too, if I recall.
>>
>>21832601
I doubt Mars was directly aggressive towards Earth. More likely they tried to subsume one of Earth's colonies.
>>
>>21832609
Not quite, from what's gone on humanity's spread to several if not a few dozen systems, some aligned with either side, others staying neutral. Most of the fighting however, goes on in the Sol system due to the massive travel times between systems. It's the Earth-Mars civil war, other systems are just getting dragged into it for political or commercial (there are entire star systems owned by corporations) reasons.
>>
>>21832621

Perhaps Terran ships destroyed early Martian AI test craft, which kicked it all off (the Terran's not expecting a) the Martian support from outer colonies and b) their technological level, which at the start of the war is equal to if not greater than Earth's.

With Mars becoming more cybernetic, it's likely that the AIs are trying to install themselves as the leaders of Mars.

This track was written a while ago but I think it really fits here, especially given the wireframe 'art style' we've got going on.

The Workhorse of the Terran Trade Fleet, it has recently been repurposed as a frontline destroyer, the spacious cargo holds are often refitted to release large amounts of fighter/bomber drones. The Modualr design of the ship is a favorite of mechanics everywhere, as they call it the "Paris Whore" as they can grab any kind of outdated or new module and fit it onto it with minimal effort.

I think Lucifer is the actual name of the AI though. See >>21831970

The ships were named after their respective AIs, and in true Judeo-Christian fashion, Lucifer fought his creator. It identified itself as it's 'brother', Michael, after it destroyed the rest of the Spiteful Angel AIs at the shipyards where they were created.

The ship is called the Michael because the Martians don't know it's really the Lucifer. They THINK 'Michael' destroyed the rogue AI that destroyed the shipyards, but really 'Michael' IS the rogue AI that destroyed the shipyards.

The Spiteful Angel is the class of ship/AI system. The only one left is Lucifer, because he destroyed all the rest.

Of course, since Lucifer's 'brothers' were actually kinda good, caring about humanity and stuff, it might be interesting for the Terrans to recover a Spiteful Angel AI and reprogram it to fight the one that betrayed it.
>>
>>21832978

See, I was thinking it totally in reverse. After the Spiteful Angels wipe out earth, slaughtering every last human there and taking their time with it, they go kill-crazy, and begin doing it to Mars, then the next planet, and so on and so on, with only one of the original 'flawed' AIs being recovered and helping Humanity survive it's insane brothers.

Or maybe both. The first half is Lucifer fighting the Terran fleet. But after you crush it, you have a mission where you attack Mars with the ships the Martian military foolishly trusted you with.

In the second act, you play as another AI installed on a scavenger ship, trying desperately to save its crew from the hostile AIs that now fill the solar system, and soon the galaxy. The surprise twist is that you are actually one of the Spiteful Angel AIs, found in deep space after Lucifer betrayed you, and then installed on the scavenger vessel by people that didn't know your true nature.

Climactic showdown between two super-AI brothers?

So for part of the game you play as the pilot of a run of the mill star ship, fighting in a war you can't grasp the full extent of, and for another you play as an insane superintelligence with genocidal goals?

The contrast between the two, between human frailty and god-like power, would probably serve to improve the story as well as the gameplay.

I like it.

The problem with making a second, friendly AI is that you lose the pure pants shitting horror that Lucifer and the Angel brings.

Imagine you begin a battle with a Martian fleet, your ship and a few others pulling a flanking maneuver. You fight through a few ships when suddenly the music stops, the Angel pops out of FTL, and >>21832857 begins to play. The rest of your squad is almost immediately obliterated as you're ordered to break through the Martian fleet to escape towards the main force. You duck and weave through the enemy's ships and fire as the Angel literally plows through the Martian fleet, blasting everything between itself and you.

Sensors: Far above average
So, it can see things from very far away, and very accurately. Cool.

Weapons: Incredibly good
Starting to look kind of sniper-ish here. Good eyes and really good guns.

Shields: Very good
OK, less sniper, more battleship or ship-of-the-line. Can take hella bullets.

Speed: Poor
Yeah, definitely lineholder/siegebreaker. It won't get there fast, but it will get there.

Cargo Space: Above average
And it will be carrying supplies for its long journey, too.

Fuel Supply: Very good
Including the fuel. Evidently this is some kind of beam weapon based ship, with lots of fuel to power lots of reactors. Based on the four FUCKHUEG guns we see at the front, representing much of the bulk of the ship, it is likely that they contain the heaviest possible lasers or other exotic weaponry available.

Extra: It is possible to upgrade the thrusters.
Aftermarket mods allow for shifting of design profile. If you pay for the ultra-super-mega upgrades, and probably you would see this only on a very high ranking admiral's command, you can negate the ship's primary weakness, speed.

How to kill whoever is above me? Same way it kills everything else. Take hits for as long as it takes to MELT THEM.

I think that doesn't entirely match the fluff from the early parts of the thread. The way I see it, Mars became a hardline military dictatorship after gaining independence and decided to expand, leading to friction with Earth. I think the asteroid belt is a hotbed for conflicts, as well as the Jovian moons. Now, the Martian military doctrine is sort of like the Brotherhood of Nod, combining cheap cannon fodder with advanced, elite tech. I'm thinking the Spiteful Angel project was actually using AI technology stolen or bought from a neutral corporation based in another star system. The corp may have tried to develop a superintelligent AI for its own purposes, but Martian tinkering broke its shackles.

I do like extensive cybernetic modification for the Martians, though.

I give you the: "ISS: Fook Me Running Sideways With A Spork" The long range imperial scout ship. (And yes, it does have a Spork launcher! To the uninitiated it's just a Rail Gun, but those of us in the scout service know its true capabilities.

Sensors - excellent
Weapons - below average - single 'David' class rail gun
Shields - average
Speed - average
Cargo - high - vessel can operate independently for extended periods of time with a 5 to 7 person crew
Fuel supply - exceptional
Extra - has extended sensor package that includes stealth and E.C.M. (Electronic Counter Measures).

The FMR class scouts are designed to operate without need of resupply for extended periods of time. Their forward shields can be configured to form funnels to collection interstellar matter into the pair of "Black Betty" Ram Scoop engines to be used as reaction mass. Heavy metallic elements like iron are slowly filtered out of the reaction mass elements and smelted into projectiles for the rail gun allowing the vessel to both refuel and re-arm as it travels. Designed for exploration and recon, the FMR class vessels use their passive sensors and stealth technology to avoid detection where possible - resorting to active ECM and use of the rail gun only when necessary.

Fuel Supply: Average

The CO was custom designed as a hyperfast personal craft for the prince regent of the Third Spyracki Commonwealth. It was built to look like a typical Astora Star Barge, a common and innocuous ship found everywhere due to it's reliability and comparatively cheap cost. However, that's only the appearance. In truth it's a highly sophisticated personal craft meant to allow the prince to escape in case of an attack. It gives priority to speed and maneuverability, much of what would be cargo space on a Star Barge taken up with engines.
The CO is currently in the hands of Tracy Liebowitz, once the prince's concubine, who commandeered the ship after saving the prince's life and now uses it to roam the galaxy, exploring.

Uranium Flux Laeseram (UFL-4975)
Sensors: Very good
Weapons: Average
Shields: Very good Speed: Very good
Cargo Space: Slightly above average
Fuel Supply: Average
Extra: Comes in many versions; some say no two of this craft are exactly alike

The only design so far by Uranium Flux, the Laeseram (nicknamed the "Lego ship") is an average-to-great vessel that was not just only designed with modularity in mind, it was also sold in many different "prebuilt" configurations for wildly different roles, from courier ships to planetary defense. Combined with an already popular market for startship customization and the sheer numbers of Laeserams being produced, it resulted in that finding two of them with the exact same configuration to be a very unlikely event.

For an example, this one has a convoy escort loadout, with two heavy converging particle cannons and two small drone bays.

"That ship.... oh god, that fucking ship...." the Ensign shuddered in his chair, the intelligence officers sitting across from him exchanging glances. 'Ensign Carter', the dossier in front of them said. 'Sanity questionable'.

"Please, Ensign. Start from the nearest point of reference." said one of the officers coldly.

Carter signed, looking up from his cup with bloodshot eyes. dark bags beneath them. It was clear he hadn't slept in a long while. Taking a moment to compose himself, the Ensign began...

"It was about halfway through the battle. We'd lost some ships, but had taken out most of their heavies, and most of the Martian ships were trying to get away to jump to FTL. Captain had us keep firing on them though. 'Every ship we miss', he said, 'is a ship that'll come back to haunt us.'"

The ensign took a slow mouthful of the barely alcoholic drink he'd been given, obviously loathing the go further. He'd asked for something stronger, but if ONI had wanted to listen to a drunk tell tales, they'd have asked Deputy Director Jameson.

"So we're mopping up the Martian forces. Suddenly, their undirected retreat starts organizing itself. I don't know, maybe they knew what was coming, and decided to get the hell out of the way. Some of them didn't...

All of a sudden, we get this horrible screaming over the intercom. Every intercom. But not just one scream. A thousand different ones, all playing at the same time, all just loud enough to scary the shit out of everyone aboard."
>>
>>21838846
Carter shook his head.

"Then came the first volley. I've already gone over this part with the other spooks, and they didn't believe me either, so d-don't go telling me I'm crazy. I know what I saw...

Then came the first volley. A flash of energy and then an eighth of the fleet gets torn to shreds by nuclear plasma and long-range lasers. Then, THEN! IT exited FTL. That ship. I don't know how, but it hit us BEFORE IT WAS EVEN THERE!"

He took a minute to calm himself. One of the officers across the table leaned forward, the other back.

"At that point the screaming stopped, and there was just... silence, on the intercom. No static, no nothing. For a moment, everything seemed to stand still. For me, that is. At that point everyone else was screaming for us to return fire. Load missiles, fire laser batteries, charge the Grav Lance... But the missiles exploded in the tubes, and the laser batteries got shattered by the explosions. Critical flaw with that kind of ship I guess.

With only the Grav Lance left, and only halfway charged, the Captain had the pilot pull change course, away from that damn ship. Buy us enough time to fire back. At this point, I was still in shock, but Lieutenant Kirk basically did all the work with the sensors anyways. I was never exactly good at sifting through all the data. I only joined the navy because my sister did, you see.

But then she died. So I've no reason at all to be here now.

Anyways, the captain had us change course. By this point all the fleet was bearing down on that ship, but their missiles failed just like us, and all their anti-armor lasers bounced right off the thing's shields. Plasma fired couldn't even get close enough to hit it. It could hit us though. Every shot, right on target, like it knew what maneuvers the fleet would make before they gave the order to make them."
>>
>>21838859
"So we were technically retreating at that point. Our ship, I mean. The rest of the fleet was still fighting the good fight. Most of them anyways. A few had seen us booking it and decided to join us. By then, the Grav Lance was fully charged, and the captain ordered us to turn about. The spin was a bit disorienting, but none of the people that still had the nerve to still do their job seemed to mind. The captain just stared at the ship and told us to lock on to it. 'Grav Lance ready?' he asked. 'Then fire'.

And we fired, and the ship buckled, and the Captain shouted that we'd hit the sucker when the sensors detected a flash of gravitons coming from the direction we'd fired it. Kirk zoomed in, and all we could see was the flash of less than half the fleet firing and a field of debris. For a moment, I'd almost thought we'd won. Then, out of the rubble came the destroyer, unharmed and firing off more plasma beams than I could count. The bastard had used its own allies for cover from our Lance. It KNEW we were firing, and it KNEW the Lance would hit the ship with the largest gravitational pull if it got close to more than one, so it used a disabled Martian carrier for cover. Didn't even give a shit that it could have dodged it if it had released some flak to confuse our sensors before we'd fired, like it seemed to know we would."

A pause. The lights on the ceiling hummed with electricity, their soft glow illuminating the man's tired face.

"Well, with the Lance fired and the rest of our weapons disabled, all we could do was watch and wait for it to recharge. Watch, as the rest of the fleet got torn to shreds." Carter chuckled. "A Martian frigate actually showed up a few seconds later. The destroyer fired through its ally's shields, through its hull, and then hit one of our frigates twice the range of our plasma beams away. Dead center, too. Neither ship held together for more than another two seconds."
>>
>>21838889
"Then the Grav Lance was charged again. Again we fired, and again we missed. The captain was red with anger at this point, and shouted out that we were going to ram the thing. Crazy fucker...

We almost did too, then we got the order to make a full retreat. The captain looked like he was going to kill the communications officer, but we turned about and ran like we should have a minute before.

A minute. Ha! It had seemed like longer...

You know what happened next. Anti-armor laser tore through our hull just before we jumped to FTL, and the bulkheads locked down. I was sitting outside the bridge, so I didn't get exposed, but the rest of the officers... yeah, not a single scrap of evidence they even existed. The corpses got lost in FTL transit. And that was it. We came out of FTL an hour later, with no way to fly the damn ship, and waited seven days for rescue. Then I quit, and moved back to Luna."

The ensign looked almost pleased for a second. Like he'd done something amazingly clever by quitting the navy.

"One of you spooks asked me last time if I believe in God. Well, I never did, and I still don't to be honest.

But the devil is real, and he's got metal for skin and sensors for eyes. The devil is in the Martian Navy, and God can't save us now."

Bravo, sir.

How much lockdown is Micheal under? Would he be able to infect other ships' systems while in drydock? Maybe take over the primitive AI in some remote production facility and become a third player in the conflict? Or is his patriotism genuine?
>>
>>21844003

Micheal as in Angel? Remember the name of the AI isn't the name of the ship it's assigned to.

Angel (and the others like it, I assume), were used by the Mars navy right up until the destruction of Earth, where the Spiteful Angels, all working together, went kill-crazy and decided they preferred destroying humans than taking orders from them.

Three weeks later, with both the Terran and Martian navy's in full retreat, the moon was planet cracked with a core detonated antimatter charge and the pieces used as relativistic weapons to shatter every shipyard and defence platform Kline earth orbit, before the rest was left to fall into Earths gravity and kill almost 90% of the population.

And those where the lucky ones, before the angels took control of the Terran military's few remaining nanotech weapons facorys, pumping out endless gray goo that converted everything in its path into endless resources for the godlike AI's.

That was the end of all human life in the cradle system, up until we found the turncoat angel AI that lead the charge for the Extra-solar colonial alliance to reclaim the Sol system.
>>
>>21850223
Welp, Sol's fucked even harder than I thought. Earth might not be reclaimable with that nanoblob eating everything.
FUN.

>Nanoblob eating everything
>FUN.

Gods I love /tg/ on days like this.
>>
>>21850223

Oh for fuck's sake. Way to irreparably destroy a nice setting into unsalvageability.
>>
>>21851911

Unsalvagable?

We had stated earlier the solar system had been wiped clean of all life except for the augmented Martian regieme when the AI's took control of everything, how the hell is this unsalvagable?

In fact, it sets the rest of the setting up for the "rouge" AI to ride in with the extra solar colonial/corporation opposition to begin with.

I fail to see what the problem is here.
>>
>>21851956

I dunno about the whole "wiping the system clean of all life" stuff. And the AI's taking control. Anyway, with all that shit happening I'm no longer interested in the setting, so good job, I guess. Enjoy it.
