Greetings fellow elegan/t g/entlemen. I came to ask you a simple question. What is your view of fanfiction and crossovers?

You see, i am bit confused. I tried reading fanfictions, especially crossovers. I found damn good ones but they were like small bits of gold hidden under mountains of garbage.

Now, of course i didn't read those fics but still their description were enough to make me grimace and give me nightmares, so i came here to ask you your opinion.

Also if you know good crossovers and fanficitons, i am open to suggestions.

And dear anon who suggested me My Immortal can go fuck himself!
>>
>>21978086
Were you playing the drinking game?
>>
>>21978157

No, if i did, i would be dead from the alcohol posisoning.
>>
Celebrian. It's a classic work of Tolkien fanfiction, which will leave you seeing the characters and even the orcs in an entirely new light.
>>

>>
>>21978208

>>21978221

Yup, that shit is dangerous, unfortunately, good fanfics are addicting as fuck.
>>

Harry Potter and the methods of rationality

greatest fanfic ever,

go

read it

NOW
>>
My personal guide

1) Make sure you don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of the setting, that way you won't get enraged when they inevitably fuck something up.

2) length is no guage of quality. SOME fics are very long because their author is passionate and values their fans input. Most of them are just people that call anyone that critisises their fic "trolls, haters of flamers" and go on regardless - My Immortal and The girl who lived (which I personally think is even worse than the former) are proof of this.

3) find an author you like and stick with them

4) it's fanfiction, there's always going to be spelling and grammar errors and you're just going to have to deal with it.

5) some fan websites have reccommended lists, they should be your first port of call.

6) unless it's from an author you've already read and like, avoid OCs. They're just not worth it, no matter how good the rest of it is.

So that's my guide. Sounds kinda obvious, I know, but it's better than blundering in the dark

There's a game called SkiFree, a pretty old one, but you should be able to download it and play it with no problems. Play it a few times.

Then look up "Bunny Slope Madness" on fanfiction . net
>>
>>21978358

One of the funniest things I've ever read.

Also if you are into type moon and fate/stay night stuff, Hill Of Swords is one hell of a fanfic. Really well written, it makes sense and has good humor with great action.

The Confederate is also great. A terran marine accidentally ends up in warhammer 40k. Much hilarity and ass kicking ensues.

I'm sure there are more but these two are my favorites and written by competent writters.

There's a guy called Random Equinox who wrote a Mass Effect novelisation in the style of Ciaphas Cain.
To my, admittedly easily please, eye, it's quite good.
Can get a bit TOO 'straight from the source' at times, but unless you're playing through it at the time it's not really noticable.
The combat gets a bit samey at times as well but i barreled through that.

ME1 version is called Accidental Hero of the Galaxy

ME2 (in progress) is called The Hero we Deserve

he's already confirmed that he's redoing ME3 quite significantly

There's another good one called Angels of the Storm, where 6 Sons of Thunder Space Marines get thrown into the Mass Effect universe and take over the Normandy when Shepard dies on Horizon.
The main character is a little Mary Sue, but that's only because he's a damm Space Marine. The characters and their interaction is very well written, and the author comes up with better Reaper troops than Bioware. Stupid husks.
>>
>>21978086
My opinion is as follows.

If the setting is a wide open universe where your characters and events will not affect those previously established, then go for it.

If it's a crossover or affects characters already existing, then hissssss.

found another promising one called
"the mission stays the same"
about an Eldar Farseer and Storm Trooper captain getting sent back by a pissed off daemon they just thwarted.

the fact that over 20k words are spent setting it up is quite promising to me, they obviously aren't rushing it for ZOMGSKIPTOTEHAWESOME!!! and neglecting the story.
>>

30 H's is probably the funniest fan fiction I've read, almost made a guy collapse from laughter from it. It is rather juvenile in its humour.
>>
One last reccommendation - Nothing But a list of names to mark his ascension.

A fic that starts just before the Dawn of War 2 series.
Currently at the part where the FC duels Araghast.

It's certainly not afraid to change events to fit the narrative and ensure it doesn't get boring for people who've played the games

Also, good fanfiction is usually made from works that are notably flawed in one way or another, and it leaves room for the fan writer to cut out the bad and use the good. "Believe it or not I've read a few good naruto fics among the giant piles of shit that is the fandom and the actual series.

I recently stumbled across Cat and the Doctor.
It's a short Dr. Who - aSoIaF - crossover about the Doctor (11) stumbling over Arya and making her his companion.
I was prepared for the very worst, but it was a pleasant surprise in that it made a surprising amount of sense and nobody got fucked in the ass.
>>
>>21978086

I really liked 'Phantoms', which is a Nitro+/FSN crossover. (Technically, since Zero was done by the same author, it's kind of in the same continuity.)

It's a Sixth War fic that's set thirty years after Unlimited Blade Works, and everything has gone wrong. The story's told from the perspective of Ichiro Tanaka, Shirou's protege, as he does his best to win the Sixth War...With his servant Assassin, no less.

I'd say that 'Phantoms' really, really gets the mood right. It feels like Fate/Zero, or Kara No Kyoukai: Everything's moody and decaying, and it veers close to horror on multiple occasions.

The main character is especially fascinating, given how loathsome his backstory is. He's a vicious bastard of a man, and it shows: The human-level fights tend to conclude very abruptly and very violently. (My favorite was a fight with a maid homunculus, which concludes with the main character cutting her face off.)

On a different, lighter note entirely, I also highly recommend 'Postnuptial Disagreements' - Which is a Sekirei crossover (Starring the son of El Melloi, and Benitsubasa) that is WAY better than 'Hill of Swords'.
>>
Here you go:

Complete:
For Laughs by Slinky-and-the-BloodyWands Batman Begins/Dark Knight
Bolo XL by Phantazm Doctor Who/bolo
A Hole in the Sky by Tobu Ishi Gurren Lagann
Probationary Member by Adrian Tullberg DC Superheroes
Living in the Red Light by E Kelly Batman
An Officer and Some Gentlemen by Y St. Ace One Piece
Those Who Love Monsters gabriel blessing (no idea what the series were but it's his best fic by far)

Incomplete:
Harry Potter and the Natural 20 by Sir Poley Harry Potter/DnD
The Game of Champions by L. Lamora Pokémon re-write
Dreaming of Sunshine by Silver Queen Naruto self insert (probably shouldn't recommend that but I think it's the only good SI fic I've ever come across.)
Cast in Gold by shyft Evangelion/Exalted
Continuation of the Dream by Caphriel Fate/stay night
>>
As much as i hate recommending pony stuff, Fall Out:Equestria is actually pretty good
>>
Harry potter and the natural 20.

Has been rather light-hearted read so far.
>>
Son-of-a-Mercenary

Everybody, give this one a shot. It is a naruto deadpool crossover where Deadpool adopts Naruto at age of seven. It is awesome though there is some Uchiha bashing and OP Deadpool.
>>
>>21979396

As much as I hate original characters, I have to throw in a vote for phantoms. That story feels authentic, in that the protagonist doesn't have out-of-genre powers or feels like a sue.

He barely scrapes through, or flat-out loses most of the fights, he doesn't have the mysterious Protagonist Power that attracts a revolving harem of girls, and he's actually pretty fucking despicable.

All-in-all, you could do a lot worse. The story's main flaw is that it builds Shirou up as this godlike superhuman who could do no wrong, which makes the PC's admiration of him very, very creepy, and possibly homoerotic.
>>

Shinji+40k is decent, but it gradually gets dragged down into WTF territory. Still worth a read though.
The Second Try is a good Evangelion fic, as it develops the characters in realistic ways, and has a happy ending. A good read if you're feeling down and need to be cheered up.
Look on TvTropes, they have fanfic recommendations pages for alot of franchises, and those are almost universally great. There's one where the Scooby Doo gang fight Lovecraft entities and gradually go nuts, which is hilarious.

There is nothing to be confused about. Fanfiction/Crossovers are subject to a more extreme version of Sturgeon's Law, in their case it is closer to 99% of them are crap. Though every now and again you get one so bad it is good, like My Immortal.

>>
>>21978086

Well, the good ones keep me coming back, often hoping in vain that they'll be updated.

But as you've noted, most of them are extremely bad, and I think the field in general suffers from a kind of exaggerated Sturgeon's Law. In my opinion, I'd say this is a result of the following:

a)the vast majority of fanfic writers are extremely bad at writing, from both technical and narrative standpoints, and

b)most fanfic authors set out to 'fix' something they don't like in the original work, seemingly most often the relationships of a favored character, and they're regularly such hacks that they are unable to do so except by demonizing the characters they dislike.

If you like Evangelion, look at NGE: Nobody Dies. It's like Shinji & 40k, but less action/drama and more whacky.
The idea is that Yui Ikari didn't go through with the experiment that killed her, so neither did Kyoko Zepplin Shoryu.
Things went different, so the angel attacks were delayed for a few years, and Shinji is rather more well adjusted. Asuka isn't. Rei is such in name only. And Gendo is awesome.

Also, don't ask questions, don't look anything up, just read it.

The God of Death from Tyrant of the East (same guy who wrote Confessions of a Wayward Son).

It's a 40k/Warcraft crossover about an astartes lost in Azeroth. If you can ignore the main character's meta knowledge and the group of elves craving his dick it's a pretty good read. I really enjoyed the battle scenes and that he ended leading the scarlet crusade agains the scourge.

Seconding this guy's recommendation of The Second Try IF you like Eva and don't object to Shinji/Asuka lovin'Lending my knowledge of Eva fics...
Another pretty good one would be The One I Love Is... which is one of that gloriously small number of Eva romance fics that DOESN'T turn whichever girl isn't the focus into an evil succubus. The kickoff uses Rei acting mildly OOC, but it's nothing severe.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Higher Learning is an OLD eva fic, from back when the internet was young, and it is damn good.
Nobody Dies is a for want of a nail story where the nail is Yui and Kyoko's deaths. Shinji winds up better off, Asuka winds up MORE broken than before, and Rei becomes both hilarious and terrifying (the phrase "ocular virginity" is used in describing her actions at one point). The story itself is pretty light-hearted, lots of goofy fun shit goes down.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3477232/1/Diary-of-a-Space-Marine

It starts out as high grade stupid, and it is pretty goofy all the way through, but if you read it twice you start to see the protagonist through new eyes. He laughs because he is hurting inside. He is brave becasue he wants to die. He is irreverent becasue everyone he gave a damn about has been dead for centuries.

Good fanfics are easy to find. Go to http://www.fanfiction.net/, click on an anime you want to see fanficed, read reviews. Done.

Crossovers are also on there.

Next is fap fics, which is fiction written with the intent of people fapping to it.

For that, go to:

http://slashfanfiction.com/

Since it's been over a decade since I first heard about Slashfics, I can't remember if it's all homosexual (as in male on male) stuff. But it's more likely to have crossovers. It also contains some good stories if you're willing to look for it.

If you want fapfics, then /tg/ has a fair few of those lying around. I myself have one but I'm put it on hold until I edit it correctly and make it less bad than it actually is.

Still, myself and Anotherwrite fag are discussing doing weekly writefagging for /tg/ and what people want written. Erotica or not. Who knows, if he isn't tired today we might be doing one today. Not sure though.

If you want /tg/ related fics, go to 1d4chan and look in Writefag sections.

Since you're recommending TOILI, did you know that Rakna's been updating Chosen? The last main story chapter just went up a few days ago. For those not part of the Eva fandom since 2000, Chosen is a fantasy Evangelion fic, taking inspiration from Record of Lodoss War. I've always liked it but it's not exactly high quality material especially in the first chapters.

Oh, Ol'Velsper's Type-Moon fanfictions are pretty good too.
>>
Fanfiction university of middle earth is a good one.

>>
Tiberium Wars is pretty great. It's a novelization of Command & Conquer 3 that was written after the guy writing it got incredibly pissed off at the official (shitty) novelization. Among other things, it gives the Commanders actual identities.

Tiberium Wars is probably better than the games themselves.

Yes. I know. I had "wait WHAT?!" moment when I got the email telling me a new chapter was up.
Chosen isn't as good as TOILI, but it's still a fun read, even if the early chapters can hurt to read at times, due to typos and grammatical errors.
>>
Use whatever you're writing about as a setting and not a story. Implement your characters so they don't conflict with canon, just make them fit the lore. 40k is easy to do this, as are many RPG settings in general. The characters could be on the other side of the world not tangled up in the actual plot at all doing their own thing, on another world way out of the way, but you're just using the lore and the setting as a medium to tell your own story. Don't include any main characters from the fiction, a reference to a minor character appearing may not be so bad. And for the love of god and all that is holy don't make a mary sue and/or a self insert.
>>

He's also surprisingly eloquent.

>"We forge futures out of pain and grief, Commander. The computers and the communications officers and the EVAs and the displays only serve to isolate us so we can be inhuman. We're monsters, son. Cold, mechanical, rational monsters, and the only way we win is by being colder, more mechanical, and more rational than the next monster moving his little pieces on the screen. That's how war has been fought since Stalin rolled into the Allies a century ago. You point, you click, and they die. It's how it works."

I didn't even see the update notification, I was checking my favorites list and realized that Chosen was at the top of the list and not somewhere in the middle. Huge delighted shock.

Oh, another good fic that updates unexpectedly and brings good feels with it when it does: Zelda The Return and its sequel Reconciliation. Zelda stories written in the aftermath of Ocarina of Time about Link having the "normal childhood" Zelda wanted him to have. It doesn't take, and then awesome happens. Despite breaking some major fanfiction rules like "Don't give the main character OC relatives" and "Don't make those relatives main characters" it manages to be fucking amazing, and every update makes even the worst weeks awesome weeks.

>>21980773
Not writing mary sues is hard sometimes. You want to make things better for your characters but can't do it imaginatively or within the bounds of the original story. So up comes Mary Sue, half angel, half demon, half butterfly, to save the day.

If I write myself into a corner with one of my characters where I'd have to shoehorn special abilities to make them better or a deus ex machina that doesn't make any sense other than I don't want them to die, I'd rather just have them get killed or leave because it would make sense within the story for it to happen.

Then again I'm never afraid to kill people off. I do write short stories, not fan-fiction, and the only recurring character I do have, at this point, is pretty fucked up. He's missing his left arm below the elbow, had a cracked spine, missing a leg, chipped teeth, eye's gone. The only special ability I've given him is being as tough and stupid as Evel Knieval. He smokes stogies and drinks liquor. He's also a pretty big coward.

If it weren't a science fiction setting he'd be dead a long time ago, and even then he couldn't afford a cybernetic leg, so he's just got a peg leg and an eyepatch until he gets more money.

>description were enough to make me grimace

Shit, when I think of a fanfiction I considered writing when I was 15, I'm glad I didn't.

For shits and giggles here is a description:
It is a Full Metal Alchemist fanfic, takes place after the movie (Conqueror of Shamballa).
Ed and Al are stuck in interwar Germany, and lives in Berlin. One night Ed receives a phonecall from a mysterious unknown person, whom urges him to go to the Reichstag. Ed hurries to the Reichstag and sees it is ablaze, he recognizes a subdued person on a stretcher as Roy Mustang, but alas as he overhears the person stating his name as 'Marinus van der Lubbe'. During the next following years Ed and Al continously receive more and more mysterious phonecalls, some of these don't seem to make sense but actually do. By the end of August 1939 the phonecalls cease to be anything but two words repeated over and over 'Get away!' alas by September war is a reality. The remainder of the fanfiction was to be about Al fighting in the Second World War while Ed desperately tries to follow him to protect him. Somehow Jean Havoc's and Heymans Breda's alternate-world counterparts was to turn up.

I still think the idea is better than most fanfiction, but let's face it, I could easily remove all traces of Full Metal Alchemist and still have a valid sensible story.

The guy was a great teacher over all:
>Smoked way too much, both cigarettes and weed and drank coffee by the litre.
>Taught his students to play PnP RPG and dedicated the first few weeks of a semestre to playing so the people could learn story pacing, character building and character interaction.
>Once made a bet with my class that he could out-write the entire class in a month, we did our best and he still managed to beat us.

As far as I remember, the only reason the guy never got anything published was that he never finished anything he wrote.

master chief runs out of ammunition, run out of shield energy, and facing enemies who's tactics are completely unknown, becomes relatively useless. Cortana, for all her intelligence, has no computer to interface with, and therefore is no more helpful that a standard bookworm. The arbiter would definitely kick some ass though. Especially if he had his energy sword.

Helm is Didact.

I don't think I actually saw Elminster mentioned once throughout the story. It's been a while since I read it all the way through, though, so I could be wrong. If I'm not, there's probably a few reasons for that...

But seriously, if a Drow surface invasion force getting mulched by 26th century artillery, magic and some good old human ingenuity sounds like your idea of fun, look it up.

>>21981332
Good thing the Forward Unto Dawn can act as a supply base. And not only does Arby get a pair of swords to play with, but a scout ship with a contingent of spec-ops grunts and elites as well as a pair of hunters crashes in the evermoores about a third of the way through. The Drow really get the short end of the stick in this fic.
>>
>>21981332
Even if he didn't he could probably find a magical equivalent pretty quick. It's fucking Faerun, that shit is everywhere.

In that case I think he would definitely kick some ass. Eventually they might figure out counter magic to stop the bullets/energy weapons, but starting out I'm sure it would be a shit-storm. Although against a powerful spell caster, I still think they wouldn't stand a chance, unless Cortana could use her INT to figure out how magic works. (assuming she had access to a library or something)

the best fanfiction material are series you thought had wasted potential, or didnt explore something you thought would be interesting for example

Sailor moon: Shit everything. this anime is terrible, thats why there are fanfics out there that make it awesome. it gets better, but the first season is a giant trainwreck

Ranma: Great manga, terrible anime, no resolution and wasted potential, didnt explore any gender themes, only touched upon its major theme of rejection a few times

Zero no tsukaima, Interesting world and settting, lots of interesting magic, artifacts, plots for political intrigue. Ruined by Stupendously bad harem antics that drove character development and believability into the mud over and over, and fucking over, all thanks to Louise's summon being a giant perverted retard.

etc.
Basically thats how it works. as long as an anime had a good foundation in something, interesting characters or premise or setting, but something else is wrong with it. It tends to do good things in some way or another for fanfiction material.

It's interesting how every anime that has Classes and and a system tend to develop only half of it and then break it into tiny chunks to fill the gaps between romance and plot tweests.

I do miss one with some consistency... (and a vidya adaptation).

That's basically what happens. (Major spoilers ahead, fyi)
After they raid/destroy the Hosttower and capture Luskan Helm/Didact basically pulls them aside, sanctifies everything in the Dawn's armouries and hands Cortana several comprehensive tomes. Long story short, Menzobaranzen is nuked and Demogorgon decides now would be the perfect time to launch an all-out invasion of the Prime Material. Chief is given Didact's old Forerunner combat suit, now enchanted seven ways to sunday, and told to try and kill Demogorgon. He succeeds, but Cortana basically burns herself out from casting enough spells to give Chief the edge he needs and even then the battle leaves Chief crippled and Cortana effectively dead.

That game looked pretty cool, as well. A shame that not much more is likely to be done with the franchise now, after the debacle that was Twilight. The Tiberium universe has plenty of potential in it for stories.

Honestly, usually I avoid crossovers, but every once in a while an idea will pique my interest, usually to no end as no one's ever written anything for it.

Fanfiction in general sucks, but the same can be said for just about everything. I've found some fanfics that are really, really good reads, often better than the source material.

Pic related, it's one of only two crossovers I've been interested in at all recently. The other is Monster Hunter/Berserk.

Though not always true, fanfiction usually sucks.

The reason it usually sucks is because it shows a lack of creativity and originality on the part of the author - they can only work with characters that they have seen and are fans of. While good writers can write fanfiction and other stuff, a good many fanfiction writers only really write in that genre.

The best /tg/ related fanfiction comes from /tg/, so I doubt you're searching for that.

Aside from that, I really haven't been able to find much good stuff. There's Uninvited Guests, which is a hilarious Bleach fanfic that's better than the source material (not that hard, but still, good for a fanfic). Everything else has already been mentioned in this thread

Cain and Abel

"Commissar Ariel Abel didn't want much in life, just to do her job and be noticed for her hard labour. Too bad her career is about to be overshadowed by the enormous, and fraudulent, reputation of Hero of the Imperium, Commissar Ciaphas Cain."

A Ciaphas Cain fanfiction that is...startlingly awesome. It begins in a manner I wasn't expecting...for the first few chapters, Cain does not play a major role. Instead, we get to see our main character Abel grow into the person she is when she meets Cain.

It features an interesting view on the Tau and the Death Korps which I really like. In addition to this, I find the writing very well thought out. There are three short stories, one which is christmas themed(features a Khorne Berserker coming down a chimney laughing) and the followup story to the first one has gotten canned because the author has disappeared off the face of the earth.

Anyways, sorry for my rambling, go read Cain and Abel. It's good.

Highly recommended: Most things by The Sage of Toads, who is hilarious and writes great action. If he has any problems it's that he likes mixing the bizarre into his canon retakes because he can. Gran Tomino and ARSENAL are probably the most of interest to /tg/. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1854667/The-Sage-of-Toads

So I've been wanting to write a fanfiction based around a kind of Super Robot Wars theme of mashing a bunch of franchises together. I want it to be a Tom Clancy-esque story about renewed tensions between Zeonic and Federation forces from Mobile Suit Gundam, who are now Deep Periphery powers on the border with House Steiner and The Free Worlds League from Battletech. It would center around a heated border conflict that would threaten a wider war between house Steiner and Marik, as both want to send 'Peace Keepers' into the area to maintain stability, World of Blake dickery would probably be involved somewhere.

I was going to write it just for practice, would people read it on /tg/ if I posted it? Winter break is coming and I've got the writing bug.

There's that thread on Beast's Lair (Golden Sapphire, Eyes of the Devil) where there's three different takes on Shirou raised by Kirei - a devil, a televangelist-style believer and a serious believer.

http://forums.nrvnqsr.com/showthread.php/25-Golden-Sapphire-Eyes-of-the-Devil-Kotomine-Shirou-Snippe
t-Thread

With lines like:
"Rejoice Matou! Your salvation is at hand!" Kotomine Shirou announced as he landed between the two, with a woman Shinji assumed to be the priest's servant landing beside him."

====

"Caren felt a shit-eating grin grow on her face as she crept closer and closer to her brother's door. She took another step forward, when the sound of valve turning caught her attention. She turned her head and knew fear.

Her father, Kotomine Kirei, stood at the end of the hall with a blank expression and a very large hose in hands.

Before she could plead for mercy, a high pressure gout of water shot out of hose head and summarily knocked her on her ass.

"Don't worry daughter, even if you cannot protect yourself from your body's wanton urges, I can."

Sputtering and soaked, Caren Ortensia was quickly driven out of the cramped hallway. Kotomine Kirei slept like a baby that night.

In the morning, after slipping onto his ass, Kotomine Shirou would wonder where the massive puddle of water in front of his door came from."

=====

She gasped when he appeared directly in front of her in a flash of black cloth. His golden eyes practically glowed with lust, "Worry yourself not child. As a priest, it is my duty to . . . train you against the temptations of the flesh. Preferably by helping you experience them all beforehand."

Bazett meeped."

Any good Kamen Rider based fanfics around?
The only ones I've seen are either
[Insert Kamen Rider series here] The movie as written as if it was a script.

Ah, forgot to add Big Sister. Which is a dead fic sadly. Up on Spacebattles.

>Chaos Theory
Love it. Mozco's crack!fics are pretty good as well.

Still waiting for someone to write a decent Shinji route fic, though.

>Nerve Damage
Is that the fic where Shirou has thousands of Magic Circuits, and ends up summoning six Servants? Always sounded like a wankfest of the highest order, and I've never heard much to suggest otherwise.

>Zeroshock
Wasn't that being discontinued, or am I mixing it up with the ZnT/FEAR cross?
>>
>>21992403

>Nerve Damage

Yep. Summons four sabers; Saber, Lily, Nero, Alter. Angry Manjew throws a shitfit because there is not enough suffering and angst. So, the Grail in it's infinite dickery releases more mana so more Servants can kill each other.

Shenanigans ensue.

>Zero Shock

It's still being updated... maybe.

You're thinking of Fearful Void. Zero Shock is Bioschock/ZnT.
>>
>>21992457
Good news about Zeroshock, then. Whilst I haven't read many ZnT crosses, it and [Unfamiliar] are my two favourite.
>>
>>21992499
Go read anything by EarthScorpion; blows Zero Shock out of the water. Those stories and Unfamiliar are the only really good ZnT crossovers. Hill of Swords started the crazy, but it really shows its age and led to some of the author's most annoying tendencies in his later fic, In Flight

Divine Blood by Trythlind(sp?), Ranma 1/2 x FMPx Ah! My Goddess x some other animes x RL Greek Pantheon
Starts with godawful (black humor definitely intended) squick, but it is Rape as a Backstory cliche, then timeskips to the results of said Dei ex Machina rapes have grown up and ready to rock the world. Epic battles come around as the children of gods battles their fathers (and in one case, sire mother) as they form their alliances with the present mortals.

It's old. It's epic. It hasn't been updated...
It has great length though. Dungeon Keeper Ami is another favorite, a crossover between Dungeon Keeper and Sailor Moon.
Sailor Mercury is sent into and trapped in the Dungeon Keeper setting, where a Horned Reaper tricked her into accepting to be a Keeper and losing her soul in the process. Follow her epic journey in finding the way home, get her soul back, keep Metallia from resurrecting, or at least eradicate all the other Keepers.

Dungeon Keeper setting is greatly expanded, there are lots of action, humor, and Ami tries her best, but she just couldn't get a break, so there is tragedy aplenty as well.

> Field STILL too long

Mass Effect: Glorious Shotgun Princess, a ME x Exalted crossover by Gregg Landsman, the same one that birthed NGE: Nobody Dies.
Fem!Shep is Exalted as a Solar at that beginning of ME2, and she survived the crash landing. Follow her story as she tried to keep the world from bursting apart in the seams from all the epic characters. Legion is named Wuffles, Kasumi is Sidereal, Garrus is Lunar, and Autochton is hanging around...

Quite interesting, and somewhat epic, but I worry about it getting too burdened by a lot of characters like NGE:ND.

On the Wings of an Eagle, a Familiar of Zero x Assassin Creed crossover by FernandelDeLaFrance is promising so far.
Ezio Auditore is summoned by Louise and is given back his youth by the Gandalfr rune. Now what would this Assassin with authority issues is going to do in Halkeginia?
>>
Amorously Minded, a Capcom x Marvel ficby Redrangerpower, which canon game is actually a crossover, so it fits, right?
The premise starts with Tony Stark and Morrigan Aesland having a good relationship, and I mean GOOD. But there are consequences... Cutting straight into the premise, Morrigan birthed her half-soul Lilith, but she has part of Tony's DNA, and apparently the Extremis as well.

It's wacky, it's fun, it's action-oriented as well.

Shirou Emiya, Erogame Protagonist, just because, hehehehe.
It's by gabriel blessing, the writer of Hill of Sowrds and In Flight, so you can expect character development and wacky hijinks. Action scenes are small and in between but they are rather well represented. ACTION scenes are aplenty, but of the HUEHUEHUE variety.
>>
Surrogate of Zero, a FoZ x NGE crossover by Charles Bhepin. Has potential, was rewritten, awaiting further updates.

Counts of Blood... Buffy x Sesame Street by Lucinda.
Good God, read it.

Mass Effect: Human Revolution is mentioned before, but it should be mentioned that it is in fact Deus Ex, in Citadel Space so far, and it is expected to be all written in DE noir style instead of ME action style.

The shoutouts are getting confusing though ...

Now for single source fanfics:
- Go Not Gently by Guardian1; FFIX, fuck angsty and melodramatic story, it's... Hard to describe. But suffice to say Stockholm syndrome is utilized by Black Wizards.

>>
Oh, and Making Magick, a FoZ x Magicka crossover where Louise is caught in a summoning backlash and instead is summoned into Magicka's world.

Hijinks and degrading sanity ensue.
>>
I didn't think this thread would be taken so well. Thank you my dear anons, thanks for all of your recomendations and opinions.

>curves fexchan

Who is fexchan captcha? And you say she has a curvy body?

I really can't recommend anything by Gregg Landsman for the reasons stated in >>21986845

In terms of good Naruto fics, there are a couple after which you'll never be able to go back to your standard fair. I'd recommend anything by The Pro http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1598723/The-Pro

Life in Konoha's ANBU (which is the single best Naruto fanfiction out there) http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7977390/1/Life-in-Konoha-s-ANBU
-Basically an ANBU and strong Naruto done right. It's a fandom convention that is generally handled poorly at best but goddamn this one is perfect

There's also Nugar's most excellent People Lie
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3745099/1/People-Lie

Another newer story I quite like is Worth Dying For
