>Welcome back to Mechwarrior Quest: The search for a shorter name! Last time, you, Thomas Baker, leader of the Baker's Dozen, made landfall on Tancredi IV with your merc company. Upon arrival though, while still in the midst of unloading your mechs, the bandits you'd been hired to destroy seemed to think it was a good idea to attack the starport. Why don't you all show them what a bad idea that was?

>I need two people in Megamek version 35.33, server 68.192.21.190 and port 2346, joining with the name Baker's Dozen and Militia, one to a player preferably. Then we can get this battle going!
>>
>I'll bump this a couple times for good measure
>>
>>22023785
Ah, wasn't expecting you to start until 11:00 server time.

Anyway, at work, can't use MegaMek. Hopefully someone else can.
>>
I'm kindof doing something right now, but I might be able to help.
Maybe.
I also played a grand total of one game on megamek and that was a while ago, lemme see if I remember how to get it to work.

>Thank you. Any help is appreciated.

>>22023921
Right, I'm connected.
I also have only a vague idea as to what I am doing.
>>
>>22023948
Are you seeing something that other players aren't?
>>
>>22023973
samefag here

I will be playing as the militia, so anyone who feels like connecting, use the name Baker's Dozen.
>>
>>22024112
Still at work, and I don't think that MegaMek has a mobile version that works on an iPhone, so can't participate via MegaMek.

What if you take control of Baker's Dozen, and OP takes control of the Militia?
>>
>>22024181
>We may end up having to do that, yes. Pity, I was hoping to get some more interest. Cest la vie.
>>
>>22024213
It could just be too early/late for most participants.
It's near the beginning of the workday for the Americas, late workday for Europe, and late night for Oceania and Asia.

>Taken from the journals of Tyler Ives, commander of the planetary militia of Tancredi IV

"It was a cold October day when the pirates returned to Lathe (editor's note, the planetary capitol) . We'd sequestered the last of our militia units away for the time when the mercenaries Governor Anglies said he'd hired would arrive, so that they wouldn't be destroyed by the pirates. Well, little faith though I had in the man, some mercenaries did arrive, and by god did we jump at the chance to get back in the fight! Deployed in the town square, we rushed outwards to engage the enemy's vehicle lance, while trusting the mercenaries to dispense with the tougher enemy mechs."
>>
>>22024498
Did you find a player yet, or what's the plan, OP? I don't seem to be doing anything, and I guess I know my way around the game.
>>
>>22024533
>We did not, our militia player moved over to control Baker's Dozen while I took control of the militia. If you like, feel free to connect as Militia and take over, we've just gotten into the first firing phase.

The fight continues, with the pirates walking into a withering field of fire and returning it in kind! The Dozen's Mad Cat suffers a glancing blow from the enemy Cicada's PPC, while two of the enemy Scorpions seem to have been refitted with dumbfire MRM racks, and the precense of a Dragon mech leading the forces hints strongly to Thomas' mind that these pirates must have gotten some of their equipment from the Combine. Whether it was stolen or offered freely however, remains to be seen...
>>
>>22024498
The MadCat can engage now with LRM-20's and ER LLasers.

But aren't the Koshi and the Phoenix Hawk using the wrong configurations?
>>
>>22024671
>How do you mean? Last thread we decided on the configs available to Baker's Dozen vis-a-vis popular choice, and I then randomly rolled to determine which configs out of those available the Mad Cat and Koshi would be in after transport. The Phoenix Hawk was always a 1K model since someone said in the thread they preferred that model to the one with explosive MGs.
>>
>>22024658
Have any of our heavier (and more cheaply repaired) mechs gotten off of the dropship yet?

Koshi and MadCat should move backwards while using their ER weapons and LRM's.
>>
>>22024713
>Sadly, it will take a full minute, 6 rounds of combat, for each additional mech to disembark from the dropship, the pirates having attacked when you had only 6 mechs out.
>>
>>22024699
Ah, found it in the last thread.
The Phoenix Hawk was switched to the 1K because it rolled a TL1 on available configs.

And I thought we were using Primary configs for the two Clan mechs. The B config for the Koshi is a close range mech, and it'll just be killed with those heavy mechs coming at us if it sticks around. Same with the Stinger.
>>
>>22024658
Milita should fall back and attempt to lure the pirates into advancing into the city in single file. Then have the hit them 2 on one. (Can infantry assault Vehicles? Because if we lure them into the city I foresee possibilities.)
>>
>>22024782
>Infantry with anti-mech training may indeed attack meks physically. However your men are meant for garrison duty, dealing more with infantry targets than mechs. They therefor lack the explosives and training needed to execute a swarm or leg attack attack.
>>
>>22024750
Well, the Koshi and the Stinger have jump jets, so they could potentially get behind the enemy and shoot them in their weaker rear armor.
But if the enemy is close together, they could just cover each other.

Also, in MegaMek, is it easier or harder to get hits in on the rear armor of the legs? Or is hit location random?

>>22024658
As the fire continues to pour on from both sides, the Militia and Mercenary force is proving to be more than a match for the pirate's offensive, them not seeming to have expected any real resistance. One of the Vedette's MGs manages to wreck the tracks of a Scorpion, slowing it to a crawl, while the scorpions largely wiff their shots.

The highlight of the turn however, is undoubtedly the coring of Sai's Mist Lynx by the Chameleon and Crab's large lasers, two hits in direct succession managing to penetrate the smaller mech's thin torso armor and utterly destroying the engine, forcing Sai to eject. A dark day for Baker's Dozen.
>>
>>22024887
Tell me again why the damn Mist Lynx, a 25-tonner, was so far ahead as to be in a position to be shot at by two mechs instead of either farther behind or using jump jets to flank.
>>
>>22024965
>Because every BT player starts out without knowing everything there is to know about tactics and strategy that the game has to offer. Cut the guy some slack. It's hard enough getting into the hobby without people being rude about you making first-time mistakes when it IS your first time.
>>
>>22024965
Because the pilot made a bad choice, I guess?
>>
>>22024796
I said vehicles. not mechs.
>>
>>22024965
Because, as I mentioned earlier, I have no idea as to what I am doing.

I'm only now starting to get basic concepts like "light mechs are fragile, keep them out of the line of fire."

It's a mistake that could have easily been pointed out if he'd taken posts in here into account, or at least asked about it.

If the rest of us players aren't going to be able to give any input on what's going to happen, then this should just be a pickup game between you and two other players in MegaMek.

It's also a mistake that cost us nearly 4 million C-Bills. There's making a mistake that just gets us damaged, and committing a mistake that loses us a valuable mech and loses us 8 times the worth of this contract.

>Then maybe you should stop bitching and start giving suggestions as to how he should respond? YOu DO know you can get into MM and join as an observer, giving advice there if my fluffposts aren't enough, yes? SPEAKING OF WHICH!

One of the Scorpions goes up in flames from a shot by a Vedette, while the heat heavy pirate mechs take a turn to cool down slightly. The Cicada attempts to flank the Baker's Dozen, only to be spotted by a pair of Vedettes hot on its heels! Oh the battle, oh the glory and salvage to be won!
>>
>>22025076
>Sadly, that Scorp got kicked to death just before you posted. However, I'm not going to run the rules of vees being unsalvageable just from losing armor on one side; I'mma rule that at least that scorp could be salvaged.
>>
>>22025095
Not everyone is able to participate with a computer, some of us have to post suggestions by phone.

Get that Raven out ofthere and move it up to Hex 2129, it's going to get murdered by the Dragon once it cools down. Once there, have it turn and put everything it has into the back of the Chameleon.
Have the Cyclops fire at the Chameleon's back, as the MadCat moves backwards and fires its weapons at the Chameleon or the Crab, depending on which is still standing.
The Phoenix Hawk should move to Hex 2623 to be less exposed.
>>
>>22025132

The battle is clearly swinging in favor of the Dozen now, one of the Crab's arms vaporized by the Mad Cat's assault. The tanks continue their duels, while the Sentinel and Cicada face off, doing minor damage to each other. In a heroic move, Thomas sends his Cyclops into full speed, charging at the enemy Dragon. This seems to shake the Dragon pilot for a moment, and even though the ballsy move misses its intended target, , it seems to be enough to break the pirate's morale. Over the enhanced comms of his Cyclops, Thomas can hear the call for a retreat, and the enemy mechs begin to head back, though under enemy fire. The tanks however, with their damaged motive systems, remain, unable to do much more than open their hatches and let their crew surrender, a few making a run for it cut down by MG fire.

>Pic is the beginning of round 5, movement phase.

15 minutes is the norm for waiting.

5 minutes is unreasonable, as it's too short to read the update, download the image (especially on a phone), and put up a response.
>>
Well, as it turns out, going prone doesn't give you an aiming bonus.
>>
We need as much salvage as we can get, though.

Since the Pirates are starting to retreat, shouldn't we try to take out a leg, then their cockpits in order to take their mechs mostly intact?

We need to recoup the loss from losing our Mist Lynx.
>>
>>22025389
Then I guess my quest is just not meant for you, now is it phoneanon? I will NOT have the quest slow to a crawl waiting fifteen minutes each move phase for people. Also, most people on a computer don't have to DL the image, they can simply click it to get the full size. I will not take the blame for you using an inferior device for internet viewing. I can compromise only so much here (such as waiting 10 minutes, fine), but so far you've done little more than complain and whine.

>Sorry for that outburst folks. Let;'s get back to some good old fashioned meking action shall we?

The enemy meks are damaged as they retreat, Thomas' Cyclops going hull down to better aim its Gauss rifle. Lining up the rifle, he takes a shot... and rips the Dragon's head off, splattering the pilot no doubt but giving the company a nearly pristine mech to salvage. Meanwhile, the Cicada is trapped in the basement of a building it recklessly attempted to run through. With no way out, the pilot ejects, leaving only the Chameleon and Crab fleeing the battlefield.
>>
Its like I'm on the mwo forums with this hate.
>>
>>22025486
MadCat fire its Large Lasers and LRM's at the retreating Crab; it's still in range.
Raven is still in range of the Crab, try for a cockpit or mobility kill.

The Cyclops should also be able to hit the Crab's leg off.

And the Phoenix can move into position to attack the Crab before it can get away.

As the Jagermech steps off the platform of the dropship, the enemy is in full rout. The Crab loses its side torso, blowing off its remaining arm in the process, leaving only the Chameleon as somewhat unscathed. It manages to flee the field of battle, while the Crab ejects. An easy victory for Baker's Dozen, but the victory is soured by the loss of the Misy Lynx.

>Picture from beginning of movement phase, post embellished to tell what went on after it was taken.
>>
>>22025584
Even so, is there anything from the Mist Lynx that we can recover? The Active Probe is probably the most valuable part, next to the Clan weapons.

And I looked up the Dragon on sarna.net; I don't know, the weapons on it just looks really lack-luster to me.

Is combat over, then? Did our Stinger LAM take damage that it needs repair before it can transform and do some recon?
>>
>>22025541
Basements, yet another condition of forced withdrawal.
>>
>>22025584
With that, the battle comes to a close. The enemy Chameleon managed to escape with judicious use of its speed and jump jets, letting it pass over swathes of woods that hampered the Dozen's and militia's mechs from following. That just leaves the question of what you'll do now!

>>22025634
Excellent questions! The Dragon is a rather shitty mech, helped only by the fact that it's 5/8. Even so I'd swap out its AC/5 for a PPC and 2 more heat sinks in a heartbeat. The Stinger has taken only minor armor damage, and in fact could transform right now. The Mist Lynx, while effectively a paperweight now, does still have its weapons and EWAR gear intact. These can be salvaged. Who knows, perhaps you could rebuild the Dragon with the Koshi parts? Faster, smarter, stronger... the Six Billion Cbill mech!
>>
Well, now that the first fight is over - SALVAGE TIME.

See what we can recover from that Lynx and grab everything else.
>>
>>22025673
Interrogate the enemy as to the location of their base of course.
>>
Also - we need to send out scouts and patrols in case they have more to throw at us. The next time they attack, we can't count on overwhelming surprise.
>>
>>22025673
Then have the Stinger LAM transform and keep an aerial eye out while our heavy mechs finish unloading.

Recover everything we can from the Mist Lynx; since it has the same armor and internal structure as the Timber Wolf, we can use those to repair the latter, can't we?

Check the other mechs for damage, and once the Raven is repaired, have it swap out with the Stinger LAM for doing patrols. It's got stealth armor, so it should be able to stay hidden while it uses its Beagle Probe.

And this guy is right >>22025695
Send out infantry to keep an eye out and give us advance warning of a pirate reprisal.
>>
>>22025674
You order the salvage crews to the Mist Lynx and Dragon, having them brought back to the starport for work to be done. Meanwhile, you assign your foot platoons to stand guard over the POWs, all of whom glare up at their captors darkly. Their apparent de facto leader, the Crab pilot, simply turns his head at any attepts at communication, saying only "you can't stop the boss! He's got plans for this place, and just ause you beat us don't mean you can do the same to him!"

Though he does seem rather surprised when your Atlas disembarks from the dropship as he finishes, almost seeming to turn its cold, 14 meter tall gaze upon the captive.

>>22025695
>>22025764
Sai is already taking care of that, assigning the Phoenix Hawk and Raven to scouting duty. The Stinger meanwhile, transforms, the pilot contacting you on comms. Sounds like a young man, you think his name is Rudolph.

"Sir, I can see the Chameleon from up here. Should I follow it back to base or engage it, or continue on overwatch?"
>>
>>22025764
Actually, if the Chameleon is hell-bent on retreating, couldn't we have the Stinger LAM follow it from high up, where it normally wouldn't be looking?
Then we could tail it back to its base.
>>
>>22025796
Tell Rudolph to follow it at a safe distance; his armor hasn't been patched up yet, and we don't know what kind of defenses the pirates could have.
>>
>>22025802
>>22025825
Supporting this.
>>
>>22025802
>>22025825
You give the order for him to follow the mech back to its base discretely, and he acknowledges, following at a distance, high up enough for him to be above the clouds, occasionally dipping down below to get a glimpse of his target.

Meanwhile, your forces finally finish unloading, and the local law enforcement agents take the unruly pirates to the city's jail for further interrogations; perhaps they'll have better luck? Regardless, you assign your infantry to patrol the perimeter, using their motorcycles. While still not as fast as mechs, they provide an excellent first line of warning should another attack be imminent.
>>
Tell sai that the Myst lynx is coming out of his paycheck
>>
>>22025865
That kinda makes no sense.
>>
>>22025862
Don't forget to salvage the Crab and the Cicada, and any of the tanks if we can.

Also ask Mel if the Mist Lynx's ER Medium Lasers can be used to replace the Dragon's Medium Lasers, and if we can fit the EWAR package in there.

>>22025877
I think he's making a merc joke. Because Sai was piloting the Mist Lynx, and he got it totaled. And as a merc, everything has to be either paid for by the client, or is a cost that the merc has to eat up.

>>
>>22025900
The salvage teams are working full tilt, three of the Scorpion tanks being in salvageable condition. The Crab and Cicada are also brought in, though the Crab is missing a torso and both arms, and the Cicada's useless arms have also suffered damage.

As for the Dragon-Mist Lynx Hybrid, that will likely have to wait for tomorrow; the Dropship would need to have its mech cubicles ready to recieve the Dragon, and so on, but Mel manages to tell you that it should be possible to use the Myst Linx's parts on the Dragon. Suh a "frankenmech" would likely take a week or more to fully build however.

>the coring of Sai's Mist Lynx
Though I understand the confusion, since in the first thread, Sai was introduced as the pilot of the Stinger LAM.

>>22025981
Unless we can get another Mist Lynx, upgrading the Dragon with those improved parts might be best.
OR, we could get another recon mech out of the deal by putting the weapons and EWAR package into the Cicada, which is originally a very fast mech.
>>
Eitherway ensure our infantry are guarding our location.

We could also give some of the scorps to the city if we want, up our karma a bit, they might have some tank crew left alive after the pirates attacked before. They're cheap tanks anyway.
>>
>>22025981
Let's go and talk with the militia commander.
If we can get maps of the area that the Chameleon is retreating to, then the locals might be able to tell us ways to get there undetected or at least easily.
>>
>>22026043
>Though I understand the confusion, since in the first thread, Sai was introduced as the pilot of the Stinger LAM.
Oh fuck me have I ruined my own continuity already? I coulda sworn I put hi as the pilot of the Koshi..... well, he is the Koshi pilot now. Sorry about that folks. This is what happens when you rush.

>>22026075
You could also sell the Scorps! It'd cost ~!00k cbills to repair them total, including parts and man hours, and you can sell them for roughly 150k on the open market. just a thought.

>>22026082
With that done, and the sun beginning to set, you head over to speak to the militia commander, one of the Sentinel pilots. He introduces himself as Tyler Ives, leader of the planetary militia.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Commander Baker." he says warmly. "We weren't sure you were going to make it before the pirates overran Tancredi IV completely but you arrived just in time."

"Always good to be of service. And a salvage-high job like this is great for a mercenary company." you admit. "Now, one of my pilots is tailing the Chameleon back to hopefully their base. Do you have any maps of the area? His coords are..." you rattle off a list of coordinates fresh from Rudolph's cockpit, and the man nods.

"Yes, that's the area about a hundred kilometers from the city. There's localized ECM interference there, though nothing I'd wager your Cyclops can't handle."
>>
>>22026122
Right, time to plan the next fight.
Tell Rudolph to take a look at the area, but not to get too close in case they have proper anti-air weapons.

If we're lucky, they will come out and attack us instead of making us assault the place.
>>
>>22026122
Guess we should wait for our Stinger to report with fresh intel, then possibly send a scout lance to check things out. Raven accompanied by the sanic-centurions should do the trick.
>>
>>22026122
"Still, I'd like to have your most up-to-date maps on the area.
"What's out there, by the way? Just undeveloped wilderness?"

We should have the Raven and its stealth and EWAR package sneak a peak at the place. Or some guys on motorcycles. The former is expected, but the latter is pretty much undetectable.
>>
>>22026189
But the Centurions are a full 30kph slower than the Raven.
The Raven and the Phoenix Hawk might be better to simply outrun any pursuers.
>>
>>22026217
I was thinking more along the lines of the Raven scouting ahead, and the Centurions hanging back as back-up if needed. With their speed (for mediums) and light gauss, they can play grab-ass with any would-be pursuers, and/or provide snipe support.
>>
>>22026217
>Actually, youve got the D3D model, which goes 6/9(12) with MASC!

>>22026190
>>22026189
>>22026186
"Looks like thee Chameleon's almost home Captain." Rudolph reports a few minutes later as you're perusing the maps of the area. "He's continuing southwest an- That's odd. He just disappeared. Sensor trace is gone, and I can't make him out among the foliage even with that bright flame paint scheme."
>>
>>22026250
Well, looks like we found a base.
Tell Rudolph to pull back and send in our stealthier scouts.
Preferably close in on motorcycles, then go to where he lost the mech on foot.

It will probably take a while, but we have the time.

Also, make sure to keep patrols going, we don't want a surprise attack.
>>
>>22026250
Tell Rudolph to turn back for now and get his Stinger repaired.

Let's send in some guys on motorcycles to check it out.
Keep the mechs on obvious patrols, so that the pirates think that we haven't found their base yet.
>>
>>22026270
You order Rudolpha back for repairs, while keeping the Raven and Phoenix Hawk and Centurions on patrol detail in a widening circle, covering the outlying areas of the city out to twenty kilometers. To the infantry falls the task of providing recon. They head out, though it will likely take them at least two hours to arrive there, given the rough terrain, so they likely will not return before dawn, instead camping out near the enemy and reconnoitering the perimeter.
>>
>>22026302
Does Mechwarrior or BattleTech rules make provisions for improved infantry equipment?
Like better motorbikes, better rifles and stealth camo and recon equipment?
>>
>>22026302
Let's ask Commander Ives if he knows what's in the area of the pirate base, and if he has any locals that know that area well.
>>
