I'm rolling a kenku for my next 3.5 campaign and I've always been good at voicing, but I have no idea on how to voice him at the table. Does /tg/ have any ideas other than Gilbert Gottfried?

borris karlloff?
>>
Cheerful, loud, seemingly helpful but secretively a thieving bastard.

But you new the last part already.

Might work.

Anyone else voiceact their characters at the table?

Brian Posehn.

I change my voice to match my characters.

It's more fun as a GM though. I can make NPCs just have whatever weird voice I want them to have, or that I think will get a laugh out of the players, and I don't have to stick with it for a whole campaign. I made the mistake of making a character with a real raspy, smoker's voice once. After a full session my throat was killing me. He wound up just not saying very much.

My wizard sounds like a haughty Cam Clarke.

Rank-and-File soldier or any soldier I use Major Payne.

I've been told I'm quite good at it.
>>
>>22031924
if it's something i can pull off, and works for the character, yes.

Last time i did it was using Castiel's flattened, gravelly voice for a voidborn Null in DH.
>>
make your voice crack a lot like a pre-pubescent boy
>>
>>22031966
Yeah, you got to be careful with that shit. You do that too long and you'll fuck your voice up permanently. Sticking away from alcoholic and carbonated drinks and just doing flat water helps me a lot.
>>
>>22031970
so, Liquid Snake?
>>
>>22031924
Yep, typically with some sort of accent
>>
>>22031996
I spent a couple weeks practicing an evil clown voice (Don't Rest Your Head) that I could only do for a few minutes at a time. We didn't wind up playing, much to my frustration.
>>
>>22031924

I voice every last one of them, but a lot of them end up sounding pretty similar: like me, but slightly British. That's like, 75% of all of my characters right there.
>>
>>22032050
I hear ya. and you have good taste in voice actors.
>>
>>22032058
My bad, I read that as Solid. It's been a while since I played MGS. Actually, it's pretty much spot-on Liquid with more bass and now I feel bad.

Personally, I'd have him sound like a dry this guy.
>>
Why are you rolling a kenku? They're like what gay would be if gay was made of birds.

Aren't Kenku defined by their ability to sound like whoever they want to sound like?

You should be extra disturbing by prefacing all of your diplomatic skill checks with "In the voice of an intensely sexy woman..."

/pic is actually related
>>
>>22032235
Might consider this, but after a few generic characters in a row, I want to try a much different voice. Perhaps I have a throaty/deep/Thurl Ravenscroft "default" voice?

>>22032233
Because I wrote a backstory for him. It's very long, too.

I love them even more now.

What's the big... I say, what's the big idea making a raven? You outta be a rooster, son. Roosters got the goods! Look at me when I'm talking to you, boy. Now--you're not looking at me, boy. And stand up straight, you're tripping over your own feet. Play a rooster, y'hear? They're just right better. That's mathematics, son! You can argue with me, but you can't argue with figures! Here you are boy, I've gone made you a nice portrait for your character. Yap-yap-yap, keep that mouth flappin' and do no listenin'. Nothing worse than a blabbermouth, and if you'd stop all your arguin' and jawin', you'd see my side of it! Now go on, son, play a rooster like you oughta be.

Nice boy, but he doesn't listen to a word you say...
>>
>>22032488
I want to play this so bad. If there's a nonserious game anywhere near me I'm joining with this, but I've already got the kenku planned.

I was thinking raspy with most of the voice from the throat, perhaps with trilling on Rs and stretching the Ss.
>>
>>22032578
Go easy on the rasp. That'll tear up your voxbox in no time if you do it often. Or at all, really. If I were doing one, I'd just sort of dry-throated hiss instead of using sibilants. If you have any ventriloquism practice, use it (or look it up). Kenku may be able to imitate sounds, but I'd imagine that beak gives them sibilant trouble and their tongue doesn't seem too useful either.

Just because you CAN sound like mudvayne or marilyn monroe doesn't mean that's your normal speaking voice.

Thanks for the advice. Might try finding a computer mic and throwing it up on vocaroo
