It's a new day, both ingame and IRL. Yesterday, Ragnar the Fighter and Drogo the Halfling headed to they Pyramid. First they cleared out the third level, finding an abandoned shrine to Zargon, and battling two cobras who defended a great treasure. Then they went downstairs to the tomb level, where they evaded a boulder trap and defeated the carrion crawler in a thief's tomb. The gems taken from his sarcophagus have made the two of them very rich

>>22059121
Alrighty, I'm ready to run the game.
So, down to the fourth level, or do you want to try somewhere else?
>>
>>22059186
Lol.
Let's try something a little less suicidal, k?
I ask around in town for news on local banditry, movements of entities hostile to the town, or for hints to the local thieves' den.
If I'm able to find the thieves' den, I ask if they know of places with tons of valuables, but where people won't be angry at me if the former owner turns up dead.
>>
>>22059239
There aren't many obvious hostile groups around, apart from a few bandit camp in the woodlands east and the mountain passes north. Of course, in the mountains are also many monsters, such as ogres, rocs, and gryphons.

As an investor in the Honey Pot, you've heard that the Neanderthals have been talking about a "demon boar" they want killed

It's possible that some of the buildings in Gondolin or Cynidicea may still contain valuables, too.
>>
>>22059358
Hmm.
Bandit camps seem doable.
Rocs and Griffons are doable if taken alone.
Ogres probably doable if in a small enough group.
I'd ask the Neanderthals where the Demon boar was seen and what it was seen doing, also why they are angry at it.

I'd say Hit up the woodlands bandit camp first. See where things go from there.
I hope Bacon and Beef can track.
>>
>>22059448
The neanderthals say that this boar is bigger than most, and is vicious. It charges men without provocation, to eat them or for the joy of killing.

Being in woodland, you have a 9 in 10 chance of successfully hiding.

Doing a little investigation you think you've got the location of a small bandit camp worked out. The dogs seem to perk up as you approach, and you spot the smoke of a campfire rising above the treeline
>>
Rolled 4

>>22059496
Go in alone and stealthy to check out the campfire.
Keep the retainers in the woods.
This might not necessarily be bandits, it could just be some dudes.
>>
>>22059552
There are about eight men in the camp. Seven are armed with spears, bows, and hatchets, and the eighth is blindfolded and has his hads tied. There is a plain wooden chest in the camp, with a guard dog leashed to a stake nearby
>>
>>22059590
I'd say that's bandits.

Go back, get my retainers, move forward as silently as 3 dudes in plate can manage.
>>
>>22059613

If the bandits named their dog something other than Mutton, then too bad.

Check the bandit's stuff for flammable loot (paper, leather) and grab it. If there's any chests, Urist can crowbar to force 'em.
>>
>>22059978
There are a few sacks of coins inside the chest. As you free the dog, he runs off into the forest.

Counting the treasure, you find only 80gp worth, mostly in silvers and copper pieces. The man claims to be the son of a wealthy Mistamere merchant, and says his father should offer a reward for his safe return
>>
>>22060033
That's 40gp for me, 20gp for each retainer.
Right, time to get Mr. Moneybags back to Misty.
>>
>>22060048
You make your way back without incident. The young man's father is happy to see him returned safely, and rewards you with 100gp
>>
>>22060080
50gp for me, 25gp for each of my retainers. Cool.

I expect my retainers will buy a honey pot each for themselves at 200gp.
I'll spend that gp on replacing everyone's oil pots and torches.

How much would it cost to ask a local town healer for a heal?
>>
>>22060111
Probably around 100gp or so
>>
>>22060143
Bah. Too expensive.

Hey Ragnar, wanna join up for some Mountain bandit hunting?
>>
>>22060159
I'd be up for that. I could use the exercise.
>>
>>22060173
>>22060159
>>22060143
For the next addition to the Honeypot, I want to start up a Jobs board, News stand, and meeting spot for adventurers.
The rules are that it has to be something that won't piss off Mistamere local authorities, and it doesn't involve killing innocents. Other than that, post jobs for adventurers to get workin' on.
I figure that'll bring more people to the tavern for more gp, and it'll also give the PCs jobs.

How much gp to get something like that set up?
>>
>>22060173
So, no Devil Boar or Ghoul Temple adventure? Aw.
>>
>>22060220
DM, you have to admit a devil boar has a higher risk-to-reward ratio than a bandit camp.
As far as I know, Boars don't keep valuables.
>>
>>22060213
This sounds like a wonderful idea. It could really help to reduce crime and centralize information for aspiring adventurers.

>>22060220
Keeping that in mind. I'm thinking I'd like a nice boarskin-helm. Less so than a bearskin helm, but... eh, its a devil-boar. I'm guessing it stole someone's wife?
>>
>>22060213
That wouldn't cost a lot of money. More just convincing people to start doing so if they want to get the attention of the party.

Right now the tavern's profits are limited by its small size. Building additional expansions, such as more floorspace or some rooms to rent, would increase the money it makes.

>>22060237
They have delicious bacon...
>>
>>22060299
>More just convincing people to start doing so if they want to get the attention of the party.
So the best way to get it done would be to suggest "putting up broadsheets at the Honey Pot to ensure the job gets done" to each commissioner after accomplishing a mission.
>>
>>22060299
Fine. We'll deal with the Boar right after we've dealt with mountain bandits.

Grumblegrumble DMs grumblegrumble.

Still, I'm going to start a 1000gp fund to hire a Crier to advertise in town, and an additional 200gp for news/jobs boards.
The Crier's job will include keeping the boards synched.
One each in the Honeypot, and One each in Mistamere with Honeypot advertisements.

That's a 1200g in total. Sound reasonable for something like that?
>>
>>22060368
That's far more than would be expected. A cryer would cost about 10gp a month, and setting up a wood board/blackboard would only cost about 20gp at most.
>>
>>22060409
80gp for 4 boards, and 20gp initial pay for the crier.
Presumably the crier can deal enough advertisement to pay for himself. If he can't, then tell me and I'll dump more gold.

Dumping 100gp from myself to complete this stage of the project.

Now, let's hunt some mountain bandits.
>>
>>22060436
Drogo and Ragnar head up into the mountains. It's getting late in the afternoon as you arrive, and the passes and valleys are shrouded in shadow as you pass through them. The dogs seem to be a bit anxious, and you think you see some figures watching you from behind some rocks
>>
Rolled 2

>>22060506
I'll check the rocks personally. The rest of the party should watch the other directions in case the rocks are a trap.
>>
>>22060522
Approaching, Drogo sees that the figures are eight orcs, each armed with several spears and a club.
>>

>>22060560

I'm throwing javelins at the minor boars, and instructing my dogs and retainers to focus on the smaller boars if they can.

Ragnar can hopefully tie up the Big boar for a round.

I wonder how 18 managed to hit me. Perhaps the smaller boars don't trigger my -2 vs. large. I imagine the demon boar would, but I want the little ones out of the way before I start tanking it to reduce the risk of a one turn kill.

Does levelling up affect my AC in any way?
If it doesn't, then comparatively I get squishier and squishier as higher levelled mobs get higher BAB.

Now to handle my retainers' XP.
>>
>>22062281
Nope. You have to look for things like Rings of Resistance and magic armour
>>
>>22062258
Congrats! The Living God smiles upon you.

Going to work on skinning that devil boar, taking the fur as a trophy. I ask anyone if they'd like anything from its corpse. Also, gutting the smaller boars to cook for the party for a dinner.
>>
>>22062298
Definitely a wise idea. Any magic-users in town that would know of where to find rings of protection or magic armor?
>>
>>22062298
Rings of Protection, even

The thankful neanderthals give you pearls and amber. All together the stones are worth 450gp
>>
>>22062298
Skin the demon boar. Take its claws, hooves, eyes, snout, heart, liver, guts, tail. This shit's all going to alchemist.

I tell the Neanderthal their boar is dead, ask if there was any reward.
>>
>>22062317
450gp / 3 = 150gp, that's 150gp per PC, 75gp per retainer.

I'm buying 2 new dogs. Bacon may be alive, but the way he tanks damage and deals damage is extraordinary. I wish to sell him back to the animal handler, with tales of his heroic damage-dealing and damage-taking exploits. Hopefully Bacon can breed a line of dogs.
>>
>>22062349
His deeds are truly exemplary.
>>
>>22062323
The alchemist recognises the parts as being from a wereboar. He gives you 900gp for them

>>22062315
The party will tell you that Echowind's lover Scylla, a medusa living in the Castle of Gygar, apparently has some skill in divination and research. Maybe she could help you out?
>>
>>22062349
The new dogs shall be named "Grey" and "Blue".

>>22062378
I ask the Alchemist if he has any use for regular ol' boar parts, orc parts, bandit parts, dog parts, or other bits from the wereboar I didn't give him.
I tell him I'll start gutting and stringing any tough animal I find.

Hey dudes. 300gp for each PC and 150gp for each retainer comin' up.
>>
>>22062378
Going to be keeping tabs on that. Something to help soak up damage will be helpful, especially if this medusa's of the helpful variety.
>>
>>22062378
Wait.
Wereboar.

Oh shit, I got hit by that. So did Ragnar.
Where do I go to get tested for Wereboar-ness?
>>
>>22062431
You wait for symptoms to start appearing
>>
>>22062457
Though there are preventative measure you can take if you're worried about it, like using wolfsbane

Don't worry though, as a halfling you can't become a lycanthrope. You just die in horrible horrible pain
>>
>>22062482
>wolfsbane
Cool. Where do we get some?
>die in horrible horrible pain
So where's that wolfsbane again?
>>
Rolled 5, 6, 8, 2 = 21

How much does Cure Disease or Wolfsbane cost, and how does one use it?

Also I'm losing 50gp and rolling up my new dogs now if that's okay.
>>
>>22062498
You can buy it for 10gp for a fistfull. The alchemist tells you to take it everyday until the disease passes
>>
>>22062503
Grey: 13hp
Blue: 12hp
Cool.

>>22062515
You bet your ass I'm spending 120g on Wolfsbane right now.
>>
>>22062515
"I'll be taking a few handfuls, then."
>>
>>22062530
Also I just realised something.
Bacon managed to get wounded by the Wereboar.
So does that mean he becomes some type of Dog-boar?
Hope I don't hear tales of some kind of maniac Dog-boar killing the animal handler.
Hope I do hear tales of a breed of some kind of boar-dog with greater toughness and damage dealt.
>>
>>22062566
Also, still askin' that Alchemist about the shit I've fought and killed yesterday.
The regular boars, the (rest of the) wereboar, the bandits, the orcs, and the dog that died.
I make note to buy a few more lootsacks for myself to store dead animal bits.
>>
>>22062587
>human and orc remains
"Uh...no."
Boar and dog remains aren't really that valuable, as he can just get them from the butchers and korean restaurant respectively
>>
>>22062566
Last line: that'd be awesome. Might want to warn the animal handler. Or not.

Also making a note to purchase a steel mirror. For reasons.
>>
>>22062609
Never mind then, thanks.
>>
>>22062610
> Might want to warn the animal handler. Or not.
Well I did tell him how Bacon was fighting that Wereboar like a boss
and those orcs, like a boss
and those bandits, like a boss
and how boss Bacon was in all of this.
>>
Well, game seems over for now. Good game so far DM.

Wonder what other wacky and wonderful adventures are gonna pop up in time?
>>

Stuff remaining:

Cyndicea (Owlbears and Carrion Eaters)
Ghoul forest
Gondolin
Castle Gygax (Ogres)
Mountain passes
+ anything that pops up on job board

Might be worth trying to clear out the Ghoul ruins or the rest of the mountain passes next.
