Hello /tg/! I was too busy yesterday to run a game. Bargle and Samael still wait beneath the Castle of Gygar (as does Echowind's medusa waifu, Scylla), as the riches of King Alexander and the evil Priests of Zargon wait beneath the Pryamid of Cynidicea. And your neanderthal friends have been asking for help with the ghouls who are attacking them from the ancient ruins deep within the woods.

So how do you play this? On google chat?
>>

>>22087211
No, here, on 4chan. Check out the archives to see how we play. It uses Labyrinth Lord, which can be freely downloaded and is essentially a copy of basic red box D&D.
We use the /tg/ dice roller to play. You roll 18d6 for your stats, then 3d8 times 10gp for your starting gold, and pick a class and equipment.
>>
>>22087255
So can anyone jump in then? Just make a character and have a go?
>>
>>22087560
Yep. Might want to wait for some other players to show up before heading out, of course, so you don't get curb stomped. Or just buy yourself some war dogs to fight beside you
>>
Rolled 6, 5, 5, 5, 4, 1, 5, 5, 2, 4, 1, 4, 4, 3, 1, 2, 3, 2 = 62

>>22087640
>>22087255
Don't know if I'll play, but it won't hurt to roll up a character
>>
>>22087742
STR 16 (+2)
INT 10
WIS 12
DEX 9
CON 8 (-1)
CHA 7 (-1)

Looks like a fighter, elf, or dwarf to me
>>

Rolling for gold now. Do keep the stats archived somewhere?
>>
>>22087811
Yep, in the google document. Your sheet is on page 14, called Buzzclaw for now

Oh and the main difference between the classes, is that dwarves have better saving throws and stonecunning abilities (helping with secret doors and finding stone based traps) but take slightly more XP to level, and elves can detect secret doors easily, cast spells, and have resistance to sleep and charm spells, but take twice as much XP to level
>>
>>22087948
Ok, cool. Out of curiosity, why did you assign the numbers I rolled in that order instead of the oder presented in the book?

I guess I'll pick between a Fighter or a Dwarf. Considering Lawful or Neutral for alignment.
>>
>>22088006
Ah, I'm used to doing it in the red box order. If you want to change it to the other order, I'm cool with that
>>
Oh, and odds are the other players will start showing up around 17:30 or 18:00, since that's when they did the last few games.
>>
>>22088073
>>22088060
That's fine. I'm gonna go with a Neutral Fighter.

Wanting Chain Mail (70), Heavy Flail (8), Shortbow + quiver (30) for equipment. Any other items I should get?
>>
>>22088197
Depends who's with you, but basic things like rope, grapnels, pitons are good. Some kind of light source is essential too, and people have made a lot of use from throwing oil flasks to use against slimes or molds and to cut off enemy escape routes or lines of reinfocement. You'll want a waterskin to get to some of the dungeons (like the pyramid, which is in the middle of a desert) and some sacks and possibly a pack animal to help bring back loot (some of the players have a wagon they use for this)
>>
>>22088197
And copy that stuff down on your character sheet. It's around page 14 on the google document
>>
>>22088290
Sup DM? Anything interesting going on?
>>
>>22088290
I did it. Have a few coins left just in case.
>>
>>22088509
Right now, just a new guy thinking of joining in.
>>
So, do you two want to head off somewhere?

Also, I'm thinking that, like silvered daggers, you can buy any kind of weapon silvered for ten times its usual cost
>>
>>22088576
Sure. Thinking of picking up a 10' iron pole. Gonna keep that silvering process in mind; could come in handy later.

On that note, taking my first dose of wolfsbane.
>>
So, the two of you want to try exploring one of the dungeons, head to one of the two lost cities, or what?
>>
>>22088981
My connection is being wonky and I've got a bit of a headache right now. Do you mind if I come back later or tomorrow?
>>
>>22089066
Sure, that's fine.
>>
>>22088981
I'm not at top condition right now, and heading into Cynidicea as I am by myself would probably be an exercise in suicide. Any healers in town?
>>
>>22089100
Yep. 50gp for a CLW cast
>>
Rolled 6, 3 = 9

>>22089131
Cool. Gonna drop 100gp then.
>>
>>22089170

All right, now that I'm all healed up how about taking a trip down into Cynid, checking up on how burning that yellow mold turned out?

Despite the soot covering, you can still make out the images impressed on them, mainly showing scenes of festivities and feasting. They might be worth something as objects d'art

To save on time, I'll just say they'd been with you anyway.
As you head up the stairs to reach level two, you see three men and two women in bright robes of various colours. They all wear masks, each of a handsome or beautiful face, with cheerful or flirtatious expressions. Seeing you turn the corner, one man points at you three and yells "Barbaroi!" and they all run screaming in fear up the stairs, through the door, and turn towards the ladder room
>>
>>22089758
"They sure looked scared." I nudge Bob and Yrin; "Think its because we don't have masks?"
>>
>>22089911
Yrin says "Could be. I'm just happy they didn't yell goblin"
>>
>>22089956
"Point taken. At least they weren't cyclopean. Either of you understand or recognize that language? We could always try diplomacy."
>>
>>22089978
"Probably Cynidicean. The Magi might be able to help teach us the language, since they all seem to know at least some common. Only the chiefs of the other groups seem to speak it well"

Bob says "Hey! Those people were wearing masks!"
>>
>>22090038
Ragnar scratches his head a bit and sighs.
"Yeah, Bob, they sure were. Come on, lets see if we can't open up trade at the least."
>>
>>22090074
Following them to that room, you see they've run through the door to the east. Heading that way you see a group of men in blue tabards with gilded masks of a stern bearded man.
"Oh!" one say. "Hello goblin mazan Yrin. These your friends?"
"Yes," Yrin says. "We scared off some lost ones. I guess they went down here."
"Ah. Wives and recruits. Well, when their heads are fixed." He turns to you. "Hello, southman."
>>
>>22090186
"Southman? Yes, hello. I am Ragnar Blackhand. Along with Yrin and Bob here, I've been searching your home to help solve any problems. We were a little concerned when we saw your followers running in fear."
>>
>>22090269
"Yes. They're lost ones, found. We try to fix them, but it takes time. They don't know what they do, or what things are.
"Others like you have come here. They are friends of us, the Brotherhood of Gorm. You too should be a friend." He reaches out his hand and grasps your wrist in greeting.
>>
>>22090349
I accept and return his greeting.
"I honor this friendship and suppose you mean friends like Alvaro and Drogo among others. I am pleased to meet you, for I've heard many good words of your Brotherhood."
>>
>>22090435
"Good, good! Show your valor, and you may ask Kanadius to make you a Brother"
>>
>>22090435
"I'll do my best. You wouldn't have heard anything unsual roaming the halls, have you?"
>>
>>22090538
"Up here? No. There's bad things down deep below though, where the priests of the dark one rule."
>>
>>22090578
"Right. Gorm shine on you, Brother. Yrin, Bob, let's mosey."
>>
>>22090601
Which way? Up and out to the lost city, going down through the pyramid, or take the shortcut to level 5 and from there down to the undercity?
>>
>>22090627
Warp to Level 5.
Let's check out the undercity for now. I'm not up to hugging owlbears just yet.

>>22090682
Heading out through the tunnel in the old city through to the pyramid, you find yourself in a storeroom (room 54), most of the contents of which have already been taken leaving only broken barrels and the smell of vinegar.
The hatch to the undercity is in room 50
>>
>>22090722
Let's get a move on. Quietly.
Head out the room and down the hall, inspecting the side passage
>>
>>22090755
You've heard the party talk about that side passage. Apparently down there was a treasure chest in the middle of a pool of acid, which they retrieved.

Heading down the passage you see a fox, which runs away. You enter the large room, with stone pews and three great statues of Gorm, Madarua, and Usumigaras cast down and shattered at the south end. A red haired woman is sitting in the room next to the fox you saw, and is crying.
Yrin says "Not her again. Don't trust Eudora or her brother Orpheo."
>>
>>22090820
"Why, what's up with them?" Ragnar instinctively grips his polearm a little tighter.
>>
>>22090949
"They're a pair of tricksters and frauds. Tried to get us to give them the treasure in the acid room, saying it was rightfully theirs."
Eudora looks up at you three with tearful eyes "Th-th-they took my m-mother's jewels. I kn-know you don't like me, goblin, but th-they're all I have left of her..."
>>
>>22090999
Ragnar whispers off to Yrin. "I suppose its to be expected down here. Let's keep moving."
>>
>>22091030
Where to? Up towards the room with the hatch going down, or off to one of the unexplored doorways on this level?
"Why won't anyone help me?" Eudora wails, and starts crying in despair and frustration
>>
>>22091053
To the hatch with us!
>>
>>22091090
You enter this great room, with billars carved into statues of kings and queen supporting the arched ceiling. To the north is a pathway leading out of the pyramid, filled in with rubble and sand. The walls are covered in mosaics and frescoes of the history of Cynidicea, showing it's rise, the rule of the great King Alexander, the construction of the pyramid, the discovery of Zargon's shrine deep underground, and the city's fall into decadence and insanity.

There is a hatch near the northwest pillar
>>
>>22091193
I'm assuming I've got working knowledge of this already, from the other explorers, and head straight into the hatch
>>
>>22091252
Below the hatch is a shaft, about 6 feet diameter, with handholds carved into the wall. If you drop a stone down, it sounds like about 100 feet to the bottom.
>>
>>22091298
And here I am with only 6 torches. Gonna put mine out and start climbing.
>>
>>22091349
You climb down, feeling your way down the wall. About 30 feet down, you hear your breath and footfalls echo as though there's a small alcove to your right. There's another one 40 feet below that, and 30 feet beneath there you find solid ground
>>
Yrin and Bob follow you down to the bottom of the shaft. With your torch out, Yrin is the only one who can see. "There's a path heading out, fairly wide one. It's going south, if I haven't lost my bearing."
>>
>>22091440
Relighting my torch and having Yrin lead the way.
"You've probably got a better range of sight down here than we do with these; please lead on."
>>
>>22091484
Is the area open, or a tunnel?
>>
>>22091494
A tunnel, which widens out as you go along. Eventually it's wide enough that your torchlight doesn't reach the walls. The tunnel ends at a cliff. There's a small tower nearby, with a set of pulleys attatched to an arm at the top. One end of the cable attatched to them goes down into the darkness, and the other suspends a metal cage about 10 foot square.
There are three people standing guard, a man in a blue tabard with a mask of Gorm, a woman in a green cloak and chainmail with a mask of Madarua, and a man in an amazing technicolour dreamcoat with a mask of Usamigaras. The woman points a spear at you and shouts something in Cynidicean.
>>
>>22091598
I make it a point to lean my polearm against the nearest place to rest it and pat at my chest with my free hand, spreading my arms and attempting to show via body language that we mean no harm. I grab my polearm and continue walking with it over toward the group, taking my helmet off.
"I don't suppose you understand anything other than Cynidicean?"
>>
>>22091653
The man in the multicolour robes says "I speak your tongue, southman. Who are you, and why do you seek to travel to the underground city?"
Yrin says "Oi! I was one of the ones who got rid of that owlbear for you lot. That should count for something?"
>>
>>22091684
"Greetings, magi. I am Ragnar, friend to the Brotherhood of Gorm and acquaintance of Pandora of the Madaruan Followers. This is Yrin and... well, you can call him Bob. I've been with a group of explorers clearing Cynidicea of monsters and worshipers of Zargon." He spits to one side, remembering the Madaruan custom. "We come in peace, to restock on items for our battles and assist you in any way we can."
>>
>>22091738
"Ah, good." He talks to his fellow guards in Cynidicean, and shouts something down into the abyss. A short time after you hear a reply echoing up.
"Step into the cage, and turn the winch to get yourselves down."
>>
>>22091802
We do so without a question and thank the three guards.
>>
>>22091834
Heading into the cage, you find a winch in the middle. It's connected through a chain to a gear at the top of the cage, which turns the wheel around which the cable suspending it is looped. Turning the winch lowers the cage, and about 200 feet down you see another cage rising, with a few sacks and barrels within. After another 200 feet you've reached the bottom, where there are another three guards wearing similar uniforms, as well as a tunnel headed southwest. "The priests of Zargon don't know about this tunnel," says a woman in multicoloured robes. "If you get chased, kill your pursuers or hide somewhere to lose them before coming back here. They control the other routes to the pyramid and the surface."
>>
>>22091957
"So this tunnel can be used to reach the surface? Must have been a lot of work keeping it secret from those One-Eyed weirdos all this time."
>>
>>22092004
"Yes. Luckily it's through the fallow fields, where people don't generally go and it's easy to lose pursuers. They can also be fairly dangerous."
>>
>>22092083
"Its good to know, though. Thanks for the forewarning. Do the Zargonites (spitting to the side again) come down here often? Do they situate themselves nearby?"
>>
>>22092152
"No. Their path to the pyramid goes through the dungeons beneath their temple, so they can more easily bring sacrifices up there."
>>
>>22092208
"I see. It seems we've still got a ways to go. Thanks for the assistance. If there're any problems you'd like us to deal with or outright slay, that'd be fine with us. Before I forget, though, is there anywhere nearby that I could restock on some of these or a lantern?" Pointing to my torch.
>>
>>22092319
"Yes, we can sell you some torches"
>>
>>22092357
"Great. I'd like to purchase a few for my companions and I, if you don't mind. How much are you charging?"
>>
>>22092420
8 torches by 3sp, as per usual
>>
>>22092465
Done and done. Anything else to explore around the Undercity?
>>
>>22092544
"There's the Isle of the Dead in the middle of the lake, and beyond that are the cliffs where the goblins live. Above that is the wastelands, surrounding the volcano called the Eye of Zargon. And beneath the city are the catacombs where Zargon arose from, but they're sealed off for good reason."
>>
>>22092693
"...niiiice and cheery. Any info on the wastelands? Why is the volcano the Eye of Zargsy?"
>>
>>22092751
"Because it's big and red. I don't know what Zargon's actual eye looks like, and don't especially want to know"
>>
>>22092791
"Fair enough. I don't, either. I suppose we'll just be heading up there and try our luck with kicking around whatever decides to mess with us, as masochistic as it sounds."

"Good luck."
Heading down through the tunnel, you see light at the end. Coming out of the cave mouth, you see a great mass of overgrown mushrooms the size of trees and packed mold and moss. Out beyond you see torchlight, showing the tips of stone buildings. To your right, you see a dim red glow far off in the distance.
>>
>>22092960
Interesting. Yrin? Bob? Either of you been down here before?
>>
>>22093019
"No", says Yrin.
"Those trees look silly," Bob observes
>>
>>22093048
"Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen any mushrooms that big. I'm guessing that red glow is Mount Cyclops. What about you two? What seems like the place to... acquire currency? Yrin?"
>>
>>22093147
"Usually people have money with them. There might be stuff in the city"
>>
>>22093183
"Sounds fine to me. Let's check it out."
>>
>>22093212
Heading through the overgrown mushroom forest, you hear something moving around nearby. It's grunting, and you see the sillhouette of its body, like a big, powerful man, hunched over
>>
>>22093251
"Stay sharp, boys." Ragnar readies his pole arm.
>>
>>22093292
The thing moves around. It seems to be moving on past
>>
>>22093334
Seems legit. We'll keep on moving past once its gotten out of view.
>>
>>22093358
Once its gone, we're on our way to the city
>>
>>22093358
The thing moves on past and you head on.
You see a small hovel, with a stone fence all around it. Beyond that you see some more huts and cottages of stone or brick, and barns seemingly made of the mushroom stalks. Out there the fungal growths are somewhat smaller, and even seem to be growing in rows as on a farm
>>
>>22093533
"Looks like something out of fey tales. Let's see if the villagers are about." and proceed to knock on one of the hovels.
>>
>>22093607
Heading towards the door, you see that the yard around it is littered with bones. They seem to be from giant rats and pigs. Some skeletons are intact, while others are scattered around and seem to have been gnawed on

There is no answer
>>
>>22093654
"Something's off here." Ragnar decides to push the door in, by force if he has to.
>>
>>22093688
Opening the door, you see a skeleton sitting at a table. It's wearing simple linen clothes, the front of which are stained yellow and brown. A tin mask of a pig's face, leaving the jawbone and teeth uncovered, sits on the skull. On the table is a clay bowl, filled with what seem to be glass shards.
>>
>>22093756
Going to tap the skeleton with the spearhead of my polearm.
>>
>>22093784
It falls out of the chair, and the bits come apart
>>
>>22093799
Going to pocket his mask and inspect the bowl of glass.
>>
>>22093834
There doesn't seem to be much in there, just glass shards
>>
>>22093868
What else do I see in the room?
>>
>>22093893
There's a matress of rotting moss in one side of the room, a pile of some slimy foul smelling matter, some bones hanging from the ceiling, and a cabinet
>>
>>22093918
Quickly checking the cabinet, while asking Yrin to keep an eye out.
>>
>>22093936
Inside the cabinet is rotten linen garments, but you also see a small clay box. Inside are 10 gold coins, and some clay tiles stamped with Cynidicean writing
>>
>>22093958
Taking the coins and tiles and exiting the hovel and looking in the next one.
>>
>>22093978
The next one takes a while tor each. As you approach, you hear oinks and squealing.
>>
>>22094001
Crime scenes! Crime scenes everywhere!

>This is what you see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL63CE18kbI

Ragnar inspects the room, having Yrin and Bob draw weapons if they haven't already. "If we run into anything resembling that hulking beastie we saw earlier, I want you to be ready to defend yourselves."
>>
>>22094131
But seriously. The door is broken open, and within the pen around the hovel are several emaciated looking pigs
>>
>>22094165
Gonna ignore the pigs for now and inspect the barn.
>>
>>22094198
Actually, do the pigs look to be acting... unusually?
>>
>>22094198
So, you mean ignoring this hovel and heading for a barn nearby?
>>
>>22094214
They look up at you and bob expectantly. They seem to be salivating.
>>
>>22094216

Well, the pigs can't reach you, so eventually you'll end up killing them off.

75XP for you, and 37XP for the retainers. you should give the retainers their XP

Gonna help Yrin retrieve her javelins, and then we're checking the hovel before entering. Can we hear any pigs?
>>
>>22094797
No, you can't hear anything inside.
Opening the door, you see a partially eaten human corpse. Its clothes are in tatters and its mask broken.

Huh. Moving on.

Am I able to recover any arrows, by the way?
>>
>>22094838
Yes.

I'm thinking of finishing up soonish
>>
>>22094887
Sure thing... I guess we cut our losses while we're ahead and get the fuck outta Dodge. Pronto.
>>
>>22094910
Cool. Put the clay tablets, mask, and pottery fragments in your inventory.
You get 5gp, and your retainers 2gp and 5sp each
>>
>>22094955
So do we make it back to town, or are we chilling in the Undercity?
>>
>>22094990
Yeah, you can get back home easily, up the lift, through the tunnel, and then back to mistamere
>>
>>22095040
Cool. Can we find someone to check us for diseases?
>>
>>22095059
Sure, there are clerics there.

Apart from the lycanthropy you have, you seem clean
>>
>>22095083
Sweet. At least I don't have scabies on top of turning into a werewolf once a month. If that's that, I'll thank Yrin and Bob for their company and apologize for that rather... hairy situation.

On any note, I suppose I'll find someone who'd buy these shards. Maybe the local alchemist, magic-user, or cleric will find them useful?
>>
>>22095153
I'll deal with that stuff another day, if that's alright with you.
>>

Fine by me. Good night, DM! And thanks for the solo.
