There's shit, and there's trolls. Xeno, Edition Wars, Faction balance issues (for 40K and the like). However, /tg/ is quite good in general, and i find it much to my liking. I don't know the secret, though. Nice people? A general sense of decency and gentlemanry? Or it could be because most keep their vices to the twinboard, /d/

Warhammer is HUGE - the board orginially came from "Warhammer Wednesdays" on /b/, where, just as implied, every wednesday they'd have a warhammer thread. Other big ones are primarily Magic The Gathering for card games, D&D for RPG, but there are more - i don't often see (though i admittedly do not look for it) threads about other card games like Yu-Gi-Oh, but it happens. There is also usually a thread on the front page about another RPG than D&D, but the majority of rpg-threads involve it.
Another big and controversial thing is Quest Threads, where the OP describes a scenario, the other posters reply what to do and such. You might've seen them on other boards, i think they sort of spilled over. There's a certain amount of controversy whether or not they should be /tg/, should be another board, or whatever. I don't like to partake in those discussions.

I think a part of it is that the nature of the hobby demands a certain level of patience. You can't play Warhammer of D&D or whatever game you can think of without a modicum of social skills, seeing as how they're all games that require you to be in close proximity with people you don't despise for a number of hours, along with the patience necessary to learn the rules.

I also think that the nature of the hobby encourages people to lurk the fuck moar. If it's anime or video-games or what have you most people can jump in posting, but with material like ours people are passively encouraged to browse around for quite some time before posting.

In short, I don't think it's because we're special, per se, but rather that the material cultivates the personality traits necessary to ensure that we don't tear into each other like the gibbering and offal-flinging chimps that we are.

It's been a few months since i played it recently, since my internet connection has been dubious at time (and the last thing you want in SS13 is more lag), but it can really be godtier fun. Most the problems regarding the game stems from the lag (which is omnipresent and is unavoidable unless the game is rewritten from scratch, an ambitious project a few people are trying to do) or people meta-gaming via being friends with admins, as it seems happen from time to time. Though to my knowledge, they're (/tg/ and /vg/ station) are working trying to eliminate instances of admin-favorization
