The ship quakes, a howl reverberating through the air and your chest. You sit up, and Astora was already tossing on her charred, hooked mail, clasping her breastplate on. You copy her, grabbing and strapping on your equipment, sure to don your traveling cloak, tie your rope around your waist, and drop everything that isn't needed. You rush out of the quarters, Cass rubbing her eyes and Tannis already there, a small sharpened spear in hand, her ear perked up, and the four of you rushed out to the ship itself. The crew was already there, despite the howling rain and wind, and Captain Brenner was standing there.
"Four to a lifeboat. Everyone grab some spears and skewer the beast." He bellowed, as the crew each grabbed a spear from the pile. "If any of you get a smart plan, use it."
He turned back behind him, where the kraken burst out of the water, it's head an enormous maw of churning teeth, maned by thin, translucent feelers. It was an ancient machine of powerful muscle and ivory scale, the fury of the ocean personified, bellowing rage and wrath into the sky. Tentacles of corded muscle burst from the water, bone thorns covering it, as it reached for the ship.
>Field too long!

Kale, up on the crow's nest, stands to his full height, grinning, spreading his arms. Flickering, gleaming butterflies trickle from his shoulders and hands, glittering, sparkling light surrounding him.
You hear the roar and image of a lion, flickering, out in the ocean. Then a goat appears to the kraken's side, standing on the water. Glamoured creatures of all sorts start surrounding the Kraken, pestering it, as the tentacles start whipping around itself, trying to grab the creatures.
"He's buying us time." Captain Brenner said. "Now, go!"

>What's the plan?
>You have Tannis, Cass, and Tori.
>>
>>22185738
Well, let's get in a lifeboat with those three and copy the other crew for now.
I don't think we should use our gun unless we get desperate because loud.
>>
>>22185738
Get on a lifeboat and row out like he told us to.

Make sure we've got a lantern with us so we can light the gunpowder if we need to.
>>
Rolled 1

>>22185738
Jump in a boat with Cass and two crewmen. Get away from the boat and try to put some arrows into it's squishy bits, preferably eyes.
>>
>>22185850
Why did you even roll?
>>
>>22185738

obvious choice for the lifeboat are Cass and us, not to sure if Tannis will want to come as well.

lets focus on getting it away from the ship first.
>>
>>22185738
Lifeboat with Tannis, Cass, Tori. Row out whilst it's distracted, don't shoot it with arrows or gun just yet.
>>
You rush out to the lifeboats, tossing a few spears into the bottom, and climb into one that had two other crewmen. Cass was the last one in, and quickly cut the lines holding the lifeboat to the Silver Serpent, and the four of you went splashing into the water.

The crewmen already had oars in hand, and rowed you out, away from the ship. You see other dinghies sitting out on the other sides of the kraken, surrounding it, as the ship itself sails away, silently, pushed back by the shockwaves of the kraken's thrashing.

One of the dinghies get closer to the kraken, and a spear shoots out, skewering one of the tentacles. There was another roar over the thunder and rain, and the kraken recoiled.
>>
One thing to remember is that it hates loud sounds. So shooting the revolver or detonating the black powder will make it come after us.
>>
>>22185908
I think getting close to the mouth and chucking the blackpowder satchel at it will definitely do something. If this thing is sensitive to noise, we can hope that the explosion will shatter it's eardrums.
>>
>>22185910
Let's save that until it goes for the ship, or one of our friends.

>>22185908
Shoot some arrows at it, or hurl a spear.
>>
While the crewmen row you closer, both you and Cass stand, javelins in hand, and at the same time, you both rear back, and throw.

Abel is skilled in spearing, right? Him being a hunter and all that.
>>
>>22186004
One should hope so.
>>
>>22186004

it was mostly bow on beast action, with a little bit of trapping (i think)
>>
>>22186004
>Sadly, you've rarely used spears- you always used your bow instead, and there were no boars in the vale. It was mostly trapping and archery for you. But Cass...

You rear back, and huck the spear forward. It sails through the air, and strikes the kraken's tentacle. Cass' own spear slams into the kraken's head, just next to the maw itself, and blue blood spurts from it- apparently she'd hit a vein or artery of some kind. It roars wildly, and starts thrashing. Up near the ship, you see Kale fall out of the crow's nest, as the glamoured creatures vanish.
The wild thrashing of the kraken starts making the dinghy shake wildly, threatening to turn over, and you and Cass quickly sit back down again, as the crewmen try to keep things steady.
"You pissed it off. Good work." One of the crewmen whispered, with a grin, to Cass.
>>
>>22186026
"Fuck this."
Grab a lantern, light that gunpowder, chuck it.
>>
>>22186026
"Okay guys, i think you should row away as fast as you can now, i'll try something."

Use revolver to make it come after us, when it is close enough, use blackpowder satchel.
>>
>>22186037
no. The spears are working.
>>
>>22186026
How many spears? Many? Throw another one.
>>
>>22186045
No, they're just making it thrash around, soon enough it'll hit either us or the ship.
>>
>>22186061
Ruptured arteries man. That thing only has so much blood.
>>
>>22186037
>>22186043

i am not at all against using our gun if it targets the ship again

but the gunpowder.
>will it work properly in this weather?
>do we have a fuse for it?
>Astora can't use her fire right now because she fused all the cracks in her claw.
>>
>>22186076
Arteries are going to be deep beneath the surface of it's flesh, Cass hit a vein with a very lucky shot though. That won't slow it down much.
>>
The Kraken's thrashing smashes apart one of the dinghies, and then it continues thrashing, grabbing ahold of a second dinghy, spears launching out of it to bounce harmlessly across one of the kraken's thorns.
Cass throws another spear, and it misses, sailing into the water.

>>
"Okay, guys." You tell the crewmen. "I think you should row away as fast as you can, now. I'll try something."
The crewmen looked to one another, and nodded as you lit your lantern. You stand to your full height, steady despite the choppy water, and draw back your bow. The arrow flies forward, tearing into it's mouth, and the entire thing roared, dropping the dinghy back in the water. The crew scrambled to make sure it landed properly, and the lifeboat in the distance started to crumble.

You draw the Mateba autorevolver, pre-cock the hammer, and then hold it out at the Kraken. You pull the trigger, and the world explodes, the weapon kicking back in your hand like nothing ever had before. Through the ringing in your ears, the kraken roars, and turns to you, swimming swiftly toward your boat.
"Whatever you're doing, it seems like a bad idea!" One of the crewmember cries, eyes wild. Knowledge burns into your mind, your body moving before your mind considered it.
You grin at him, then draw out a single cotton thread, dip it in lantern oil, and then roll it around in the satchel of gunpowder, creating an impromptu fuse. Tucking the fuse into the satchel, you touch it to your lantern, and the fuse started sparking. The Kraken took a deep breath, about to consume you, and then you throw the sparking satchel into it.

With a loud whoom, a plume of fire burst from it's mouth, your ears still ringing from the revolver, and you were blown back, into the water.

lakes are not ocean but it's hopefully good enough!

>>
For a moment, through the dimness in the water, you can see the blurry form of the enormous, titanic kraken, tentacles writhing as the beast caved in, it's body shredded from the explosion. And next to it... you see one of the crewmembers, drifting in the water, not moving. Quickly, calling upon memories of swimming in the lake, you shoot toward them, wrapping your arm around their hip, and making your way to one of the lifeboats.
The crew cheered as you splash out of the water, a sopping wet Tannis under your arm, as both Grubwort and Tori help pull you inyo the lifeboat. Grubwort instantly started resucitating Tannis, while the rest of the crew started rowing back to the Silver Serpent. The Kraken, still writhing, finally slowed to a stop.

Once onboard again, a towel around your shoulders, Brenner clapped his hand on your shoulder, giving you a grin. The storm was already abating, and the body of the kraken lay far behind you, the largest thorns on it's head already cut out by the captain.
"... We lost two men." Brenner said. "But you saved so much more."

"Of course it won't." He said, and clapped his hand on your shoulder again. "I should really start taking more nonhumans on board."
"Haha, captain, I think this counts as the trip being uncomfortable."
"Of course." He said. "That's why you're getting half of the bounty. Of course you don't need to pay, you saved the entire ship!"

You make your way over to Tannis, who was pouting, wrapped up in a cloak, still sopping wet. As you approached, she met your eyes, her ears perking up before suddenly pouncing on you, knocking you back, her arms wrapped tightly around you. You feel the pinpricks of claws in your back as she hugs you, eyes screwed tightly shut, her wet tail twitching uncomfortably.
She didn't say anything, hugging you as tightly as she possibly could.

You return her hug, scratching behind her ear, and it folded up, hiding underneath her hair.
"How are you doing, Tannis?"
She sneezed in response. You lift up the sopping wet girl, slinging her onto your back the way you'd carried Lyra when she was younger, and she simply hugged you tighter, mumbling about how she didn't like water.
"Heh, and here I thought you liked fish."
"I like eating fish." She said, and sneezed again. "Chuu! Not being one."
As you walk, you see that Cass's face and arms were bright red, and Astora was bandaging her up, damping the bandages in water. Apparently she'd gotten burned from the explosion, though the other two crewmembers from your boat were fine.
You continue looking for the rest of your group, and find Ariana and Kale in their quarters. Ariana was holding the elf's hand, and the elf was...
Asleep.

"I thought he didn't sleep? Is he gonna get better?"
"I don't know." Ariana said.
"He'll be okay." Tannis said, as you rummage around to find a towel. "He sleeps when he gets tired. That's what he told me."
"It'll be easier to dry you if you turn back into a cat." You tell the girl on your back.
"... I'm fine like this." She said quietly, hanging on more tightly. For once, she didn't seem to be offended at the word 'cat'.

"Okay." She responded, and you made your way abovedeck again. A bandaged Cass was sitting down next to Tori, talking and brandishing with her arms, while the witch laughed.
"... They're getting along well." Tannis said.
"Ah, Abel!' Grubwort said, approaching you as the crew walked about, cleaning up after the fight. "And Tannis. Anyway, the crew tells me that you called a firestorm upon that kraken." He said. "I'm impressed. But anyway, there's warm food down in the mess if either of you want it."

"It's much too late for dinner." He said, and chuckled. "Probably closer to breakfast. And yes, it's Kraken." He said. "Oh, also, catch this!"
He tossed something to you, and you caught it- a long, ivory spike- one of the kraken's thorns.
"What does Kraken taste like, Grubwort? I imagine many hadn't had the opportunity to consume it's flesh."
"They say it's like squid, but much meatier and firmer." He said. "Like shrimp, I suppose."
Slipping the thorn in your pocket, you make your way over to Cass and Tori.
"And then he was just strolling around, and tripped over a root. Ended up in the muck." Cass was saying, grinning.
"Jaeden doesn't seem like he was very elfy." Astora responded.
"He was, just not very graceful." Cass responded. "He was convinced he could dance on treetops if he got good enough, though. He never did."
"Oh, hey, Abel. Tannis." Astora said, waving. "I swear that fire thing wasn't me. Was that your black powder?"
"... You should have warned me, Abel." Cass said, frowning. "I could've taken cover or something."

"... My troll blood's thin right now." She said. "So it'll be painful until it heals."
"She'll be fine." Astora said. "I know my burn wounds, and it isn't bad."

"Oh, alright." Cass said.
"I may as well come too." Tori said, getting to her feet. "Was Ariana okay?"
"She's watching over Kale." Tannis said, her ears drooping. She shook her hair, sending droplets everywhere, and then grinned. "That helped. Now I'm drier."

The four of you ended up belowdecks, with the rest of the crew, all cheering and eating kraken. Tannis sat next to you, hunched over- Even after prying her off of you, she hadn't been out of arm's reach since, and abnormally quiet.

And then you attack her with a towel, quickly drying off her entire body. Absentmindedly, she started licking her palm and trying to smooth her hair.

"Even." You say, and go back to eating.
By the time the impromptu midnight celebration was done, Tannis, and Astora were all asleep, Tannis's feline form snoring in your lap. Cass had gone back to the quarters to sleep, and no doubt Ariana had slept in the same room as Kale, tonight. Picking Tannis up, you go back up to the quarters and take whichever empty room you find, set Tannis down on a nearby pillow, and next thing you knew you were asleep.

The next morning, you reported to Grubwort, but he just laughed at you.

"Well, we're pulling up the sails and then we'll be on our way." He said. "I don't think we'll need your help, but if we do, I'll call you."

You nod, and then make your way to the captain.
"... Captain Brenner, how did you know about the woman in white?"
"... You're speaking of Phell." He said. "The goddess of freedom, of travel, of commerce and trade. When she freed us from Skiitari, when we Atlaskan slaves were free people again, it was said that the woman in white led us to rebel."

"Oh, Ah. That explains a bit." You say. "Would you mind telling me about the time Atlask was enslaved, and how they were freed?"
"It was generations ago." He said. "Though tensions still run high. We were a colony, here to gather salt for the empire. Barbarians from the north. Times were hard, water was rare, and we were starving and dying. Finally, spurred on by dreams of Stirge, of Phell, and of Agaeros, we fought. We captured the Skiitaran slavelords, and ransomed them back to their country. Our first true leader offered a trade agreement for salt the next day."

"So how are you going to collect the bounty? I didn't think there was an order presence in Atlask."

If he goes back to Amberway then it could be left in the care of the meanads/warlock guy.

"I see. Thank you, Captain."
>>
"I see." You say. "Thank you, Captain. How are you going to collect the bounty? I didn't think there was an order presence in Atlask."
"There isn't, no." He said. "But my trading route goes up to Angvard, and I'll collect the bounty there. I see no reason to make you wait for your share, though, so I'll give it to you when we get to port."

"Ah, thank you. You're a good man, Captain."
"I'm not the only one." He said, with a grin.
You make your way below deck again, and check on Kale. He was lying back in bed, piles and piles of pillows underneath him, eyes half-lidded. Ariana sat on the other bed, talking to him.
"Ah, it's abel!" Kale said, smiling. "It's good to see you. Ari says the beast was killed. I'm sorry I missed it."

"It was no problem." He said. "I overdid it a bit, however."
He sighed. "I should be able to walk in a day or so, though."
"Is there anything we can get you?" Ariana asked.
"Just some greens and fresh water." He responded.

Better get him some greens and fresh water then.
>>
You go grab some greens and a flask of water, and by the time you come back down to the room, Kale was sitting up, holding his head.
"Ariana." He said, quietly. "I believe I had a dream. It was rather strange."
"... What was it?" She asked. "Er, I mean you don't need to tell me if-
"It was about my lover." He said. "... I just... I wanted to thank you."
"But it wasn't my choice. I don't control it-"
"That doesn't matter." Kale said, his lips quirking. "Thank you, Ariana."
"... You're welcome."

He seemed to notice you for the first time. "Ah, Abel. Thank you for bringing me some food."

"Hey, Kale, you don't have to stick with me for seven years." You say. "If you want to see your lover, you're always free to leave."
"I've always been free." He said. "And I'm slightly offended that you assume I'm not. I chose to follow you and the little one, and I continue to choose."
"I'm not little." Ariana said.
"You're four and a half feet tall." He responded. "You're little, right now, though I can tell that you'll soon go through a growth spurt."
"Will I be as tall as Astora?"
"... Not quite." He said.
"Aww."
>>
>>22188318
Well can we at least offer him the same that we did Astora?

>>22188327
"Sorry, I am really unused to how all this magic stuff works."
>>
>>22188327
"You can tell just by looking at someone?"

Voting that we go grab Tannis and try to catch fish.
>>
>>22188395
Fishing sounds like fun, seconded.
>>
"You can tell just by looking at someone?"
"Only at the age Ariana is." Kale said.
You nod to him, grab your fishing gear, and make your way above deck. While you leave the room, you hear Ariana ask if she'll at least be bustier than her sister.

You find Tannis still sleeping on the pillow, in feline form, and shake her awake. Only a few minutes of hand-biting and clawing wildly, she was awake properly, her tail swishing this way and that.
"... Fishing?" She asked, when she noticed the pole. Suddenly, she was only half-maenad, half human, wearing rags. "One second, let me come with!" She said, grabbing some rope and tying it around her waist. "Just in case. I don't want to get wet."

"Sorry." She said, her ears folding down next to her head. "I just... have claws, and it's really... um, satisfying to use them. Just the feeling of tearing through flesh... Sorry! I could clean your scratches if you want." She said, and then licked your hand, the bristles on her tongue scraping against your skin.
You sigh, and then make your way to the side of the ship. You cast your line while Tannis ties the other end of the rope to a mooring, and then you wait.
"... Is this it?" She asked, before something started tugging. Quickly, with reaction times taught to you by hunting, fishing, and several close shaves, you jerk suddenly on the rod and snag the fish, reeling it up with quite a bit of struggling.

"... That's even bigger than the one in Amberway!" Tannis said, eyes wide. A truly humongous fish sat there, flopping across the deck.
>>
>>22188611
"Don't let it escape Tannis!"
>>
"Don't let it escape, Tannis!" You say, and she was already pouncing, teeth and claws bared as she wrestled with the fish. With a savage crunch, tearing parts out with her teeth, she tore off the fish's head, pinning it down.
"Fhere." She said, her mouth full of fish head, her ears perked up and her tail sky high. "fow's fat?"

"We'll have to get you a scratching post." You say.
"... A what?" She asked, her mouth still full. You shake your head, and grin at her. "You got it! That means you get the first mouthful."
She nodded, and with more crunching, she chewed more of the fish head and sucked out it's eyes, before grinning.
"Thank you!" She said, smiling widely as she picked up the fish, dropping it into your hands.
Grubwort came by, and chuckled.
"Big one." He said. "They must have come near to feed on the remains of the kraken. If you want that cooked, I can do it for lunch."
>>
>>22188730
"Thank you, that would be welcome."

Let's inquire as to anybody else who wants to spar.
>>
>>22188730
"Sure thing."

Give tannis head scritches.

"How long till we reach port?"
>>
"Sure thing." You say, and set the fish into Grubwort's arms. Your hands free, scratch Tannis's head, and she leaned into you, her ear flicking every now or then. "How long until we reach port?"
"It'll be another few days." Grubwort said. "But the captain thinks it'll be smooth sailing- literally- so feel free to sleep or rest the rest of the way."

Some time later, you, Tannis, and Ariana were sitting on one end of the table, picking at the breaded fish you'd caught, while Tannis was eating large amounts of it whole.
"You seem really hungry." Ariana said.
"... It's really good." Tannis responded. "And it's polite. Abel caught it!"
"... You know how to fish?" Ariana asked.
"Lived near a lake." You say, not mentioning that you were never very good at fishing- your father and sister were much better than you were.
>>
>>22188884
"Why do you want to know?"
>>
>>22188884
It will be nice to get off the ship and have some real meats.
>>
"It will be nice to get off the ship and have some real meat." You say, after a moment.
"Just don't flaunt your meat around any of the Agaeros devotees." Grubwort said. "They don't eat meat, and they're all self-righteous about it."
"No they aren't." Tannis said, much more heatedly than you'd expect from her. "They're nice and don't judge people for what they eat."
"... What would you know about Atlask, girl?" Grubwort asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm sandborn." She said.
"An orphan?"
"... My parents were." She responded. "I had the tattoo and everything, but... I grew out of it."
"... Because you're not human?"
"Mhm. New moon. The tattoo went away."
>>
>>22189032
"What's the significance of the tattoo?"
>>
>>22189032

>>
>>22189032
"Is this a cultural thing?"
>>
"What's the significance of the tattoo?" You ask. "Is this a cultural thing?"
"Our people give ourselves tattooes of all sorts." Grubwort said. "Some give themselves symbols for their gods, some add marks to their face or arms to show that they're sandborn and without trade, some simply get them for looks." He said, and lifted up a pant leg- you see a long, scrawling tattoo in another language wrapping around Grubwort's ankle. "This represents my love for an old girl I had, when I was younger and stupider."
"Wait, you even heal from tattooes? Why did your parents tattoo you if they knew it wouldn't stick?"
"... He didn't know it wouldn't. I didn't either." Tannis said, and then she went silent, and then slid her plate aside. "... I think I'm going to go take a nap." She said, and suddenly turned into a cat. Grubwort jumped back, unused to the sudden change, as Ariana opened the door for Tannis.

For some reason I don't think she had a normal Meanad childhood.

>>
>>22189199
"How's your sister, Ariana?"
>>
"For some reason I don't think she had a normal maenad childhood." You say, and Ariana nodded.
"We don't have maenad in Atlask." Grubwort said. "Strange."
"Anything else we should avoid?" You ask.
"Well, there are some bandits in the deserts and salt pans sometimes, so you want to be careful." He said. "The cities themselves should be safe enough as long as you go through customs when you arrive, and as long as you don't anger the councilors or guards..."
He shrugged. "If you see fellows with chains and scimitars, try to be careful and don't bother them, much less make them believe you're from Skiitari. They're rather paranoid about that. But other than that, you should be fine."
You nod, and then turn to Ariana.
"How's your sister, Ariana?"
"... I'll tell me if you tell me something." She said, grinning wickedly. "Did you two sleep in different beds, or the same one? I took Cass's room for a reason, you know."

"That's not an answer." She said finally, and then hmphed. "I'll just ask Astora. Anyway, she's been fine. Since last night she and Cass have been talking a lot. That makes me happy that they're starting to become friends."
>>
>>22189548
"Yeah, it'll be good to see them not having stand-off 's with each other."
>>
>>22189548
Your quest is already messing with my love life, it might be a bit much when you start actively toying with it.

It is nice to see them not at each others throats. With luck I might get to see my next birthday.

>>22189548
"Yeah, me too."
>>
"Yeah, me too." You say. "It is nice to see them not at eachothers throats. With luck, I might get to see my next birthday."
"It is." She said, leaning back. "And... don't be so sure. They were talking about you!"
While you silently contemplate that horror, Ariana skipped out of the room.

Time passed, eventually, on the Silver Serpent.
Kale was eventually able to walk, though he was unable to Glamour, and you continued eating kraken and fish almost every day, until the ship was almost routine.
Tannis had taken to sticking around whenever she could, and you slept in Kale's room, as neither Tori or Cass let you sleep in their rooms. Eventually, on the seventh day aboard, Kale bellowed from the crow's nest.
"Land, ho!" He cried.

"Well." Captain Brenner said, looking out to the city in the distance. "This is Vann'ikal."

The city was large, made of pale yellow, with the piers made mostly out of more stone. The city was large, and sprawling, with quite a few temples and incredible amounts of glass windows, much more than anything you'd seen. Something was strange, though- the streets weren't pavement- they were dirt and grass, with trees springing up between the buildings, the 'roads' just being beaten paths.

The captain waved you over, and handed you a pouch of coins.
"This is for your group's share of the kraken bounty." He said, and chuckled. "And customs is over there- you should speak to them about what you plan to do here in Atlask, be it traveling or immigrating."
>>
>>22189781
"Thank you, Captain! May your journeys be safer!"

Better do what he says, go check in with those customs people.

"Thanks, captain."
Let's wander over to customs.
"I was told that we should talk to customs about our presence here."
>>
>>22189781
Take a quick peek into the pouch, see approximately how much it might be, but don't bother counting it yet.

"Many thanks, Captain. I'm sure we'll meet again some day."

"So, ladies, what do we say we're here for? And where do we go first?"
>>
>>22189781
"I'm not sure we'll be staying for too long, Captain. Is there any ships I *shouldn't* get on?"
>>
"Really, I can't thank you enough." You say, and peek into the pouch- you see nothing but glittering gold and silver... almost a very uncomfortable amount of gold. "Couldn't have asked for a better captain. Out of curiosity, when do you think you'll be stopping by atlask again?"
"You do me honor." He said. "I'll return in a month or so. I have a set route. But I won't set off again for a few days."
"Many thanks, Captain." You say. "I'm sure we'll meet again some day."
"Aye, so am I." He said, and nodded.

You and your group collects your belongings, and make your way off the ship. Grubwort waves you off, and you all make your way to the customs office. The man there had long black tattoos covering his face, almost like scars down his eyes. His eyes wrinkled peculiarly, and he smiled.
"Ah, welcome to Vann'ikal, sirs and ladies." He said.
"I was told that we should talk to customs about our presence here."
"Yes, that would be good." He said. "Some of us like our bookkeeping. It shan't be an issue. You came on the Serpent, did you not? Good ship, that is. I'll need your names and a list of your belongings. I trust you can all write?"
You nod, and he gives each of you a piece of paper, with which you scribble down your list of belongings. One by one, you introduce yourselves, and he smiles and writes down each one. Last came Tannis, and when she said 'sandborn', his smile visibly fell.
>Field too long!
>>
".... Ah." He said, and the tension suddenly rose. "Welcome back to Atlask."
"Thank you." Tannis said, and grinned. She didn't seem to notice his reaction.

Soon enough, the man returned a bunch of papers to you to show to any officials, and you made your way out of customs, wandering the city.
"So, ladies, where do we go first?" You ask.
Tannis squeaked suddenly.
"This way!" She said, pointing to the city gates. "I just smelled someo- something you should all see!"
>>

"Hold on a second, Tannis."
"... okay." She said, still hopping up on her tippy-toes. If she wasn't entirely human at the time, you're sure her tail would be twitching and her ears would be perked.
"Alright, I'm going to split up the kraken bounty." You say, and carefully count out the money, handing it out.

>one gold and five silver per person gained!

"Alright, Tannis." You say, and she darted off, almost *running* toward the gates. She skidded to a stop, spoke to the guard a bit, and then looked back and motioned for you to follow her. All of you make your way out into the plains, and you see an enormous canvased wagon, painted black, with strange archaic symbols painted onto the sides. Surrounding it was strange, bandit-looking men, all young and scrawny, wearing strange black leather around their arms, legs, and breeches, most of them with ankh-shaped ear piercings. One older man, with a headband, and a single, long horizontal scar across his face, grinned when he saw your group. Tannis's ears and tail burst from her head and butt, and she *pounced* on the headband man, sending him sprawling into the dust.

"Hey, dad!" She said, grinning as she hugged him.

>>22192348
"Well, crones are older... and... Well, that's just what we call them. They still have Gifts, and still are witches.. some are warlocks, though those really rare. Oh, and they give up their family, because that way there's no preferential treatment. In theory, at least.
>>
>>22192388
Can warlocks become crones? Do you want to be a crone one day?
>>
>>22192466
>Can warlocks become crones?
"Well, they're rare enough that we don't even have a special name, though Eldin's taken to calling them 'hermits' or something stupid. But yes, they can. They say our great uncle was a crone, before he got sick."

>Do you want to be a crone one day?
"Hahahahahahahaha. No. I've got better things to do with my spare time. Like making snow angels or something equally useless. Also, the other crones would probably kick me out eventually."
>>

Snow angels? Not Puddle angels?

>>
>>22192573
>Snow angels? Not Puddle angels?
"... I usually wear thick clothing when I go outside. It's *cold*."

>>22192582
>Favorite food and why?
"Well, for me... I'm actually a fan of fruit. Apples, plums, the odd peach now and then... Most of it doesn't grow well up near Sanctuary. I like them because they're sweet and crunchy. For my familiar, I'm really a fan of cows. Elk are too bony, and sheep are too fluffy. Though my familiar doesn't need to eat, I still enjoy it, but I don't want to deprive Garamon of their cattle. The barbarians used to bring them to me, though- they were really a fan of my familiar."
>>

>>

>>22192778
>What sort of familiar do you think Ariana is going to get?
"... An otter, maybe, or a ferret. She's mischevious, loves the water, and she doesn't like fighting. But I'm not sure, because sometimes I think she hides a certain strength..."

>If Abel was a witch, what would he get?
"... I... don't know. Sometimes I'm not even sure he thinks like we humans do. He acts strangely at times. Maybe something mythological. Yeah, the more I think about it, if he were a witch, he'd be Nobilis. The look in his eyes when he shot that fairy, though, the look in his eyes... Maybe his familiar would be a Forged? I don't know."

>>22192781

>What do you think the coolest Witch Gift is?
"Ariana's Shadow Gift is kind of cool. Eldin's Gift of Life is the most useful, though. It's virtual immortality to anything but rowan wood. Which is strange, come to think of it, because rowan wood is only useful against undead..."

>>22193026

And no, kraken heads are worth more as bounty than they are as food, because they were a real problem for ships, so the order, some merchant groups, and some governments set up bounties for them. They're much too rare, now that they've mostly been hunted to extinction."

"... No, they aren't. Tannis is fine, but that's because she wasn't raised maenad. The others are annoying with their stupid pack leadership thing."

"... No comment."

Any funny stories to tell about Ariana? I'm sure her gifts have caused some ruckus back home.

On the subject of gifts, I know you got your gift of flame on your journey, but when did you get the gift of sight?
>>
>>22193536
How big is your Manor in Sanctuary?

>Again, thanks for running, Exa.
>>
>>22193536
Just so you know Abel does think you're pretty, and he's probably open to polyamorous relations, you're going to have to discuss that with Cass first though, and maybe Tannis. Though I bet Tannis would be okay with it if you give her scritches, she likes those.
>>
>>22193663
Don't lie like that. Abel is just trying to avoid having arguments because it'd cause too much trouble for Ariana
>>
>>22193714
That may or may not be a lie.

>Any funny stories to tell about Ariana? I'm sure her gifts have caused some ruckus back home.
"Surprisingly a few. Other than the time she ended up in a shed attacked by cockroaches, which I won't talk about here, she's had good control of her Gifts."

>On the subject of gifts, I know you got your gift of flame on your journey, but when did you get the gift of sight?
"We call them Birth Gifts- ones that you are always able to use, always aware of. Ari's was the Gift of Vermin, and mine was the Gift of Sight. It's always been there for me."

>A rail-thin woman with red hair that trails down to her hips, she wears hooked, charred mail, and a single hand is constantly aflame. Ariana's sister, she wants nothing more than to watch over her. Astora seems rather impersonal most of the time, but doesn't seem to mind Abel or the others. She has the Gift of Flame, and the Gift of Sight. She's recently revealed that her Gift of Flame is rather painful, and she's sealed it up, quenching the fire itself and revealing a wicked, taloned, demon-like claw underneath.

"I didn't, but... the bomb? That black powder stuff is interesting."

>Do you think Ariana might overuse her gift of shadows?
"I did my own research on the gift of shadows. It's not healthy for her, but it's not bad for her either. It works like my Gift of Sight does- it simply becomes harder for her to use the more she uses it.

Enjoying your adventure so far?
"I am! Vann'ikal is so pretty."
>>

Because you're a tiny cute witch! Why else?

Learned any fancy new tricks with your gift of shadows? I bet you could pinch something out of Abel's pockets, if you tried.
>>
>>22195021
Because you are a witchling, that's why.
Why are you trying to cause so much trouble?
>>
>>22195021
Because you're a witch, but you're small and adorable.

How do you feel about your sister coming with on your trip?

Have you ever pet Tannis?

Why do you get so much enjoyment out of teasing Abel and making his romantic life even more complicated?
>>

>Why do you get so much enjoyment out of teasing Abel and making his romantic life even more complicated?
Because it's fun, of course. We should be collaborating, not condemning this.
>>
>>22195107
Of course.
But her reasoning might not be our reasoning, so we should ask anyways.
>>
>Because you're a tiny cute witch! Why else?
"Because I'm not *that* short."

>Why do you cause so much trouble?
"... What trouble? There are different kinds."

>How do you feel about your sister coming with on your trip?
"Well, I'm happy that she's coming with us, but I worry about her hand. She hasn't used her Gift of Flame at all, and it woulda' turned that kraken into mincemeat."

>Have you ever pet Tannis?
"She doesn't let me pet her, except for headpats. She only lets Abel scratch her ears."

>Why do you get so much enjoyment out of teasing Abel and making his romantic life even more complicated?
"Oh, is *that* what trouble you meant? Teasing Abel's fun, but I'm not making his romantic life complicated. I'm trying to get Cass and Astora to stop hating eachother. And I think it's working!"
>>
>>22195298

She bound herself to not use her hand so she could be here. Otherwise she wouldn't let herself follow you, for fear you wouldn't grow up.

> I'm not making his romantic life complicated

If Abel was a warlock, what kind of familiar do you think he'd get?
>>
>>22195298
It might be working. They're getting along better, good job.

So, what do you think you're going to get for a familiar?

You having a fun time on the journey? Do you think you're growing up well due to it?
>>
>>22195298
Are there any witch gifts you wish you had? Is there a certain familiar you think would be a lot of fun to have?
>>
>I guess it is, but I would have thought that creating jealousy would do the exact opposite of making them stop hating each other.
"They were *already* jealous. Nothing I could do could fix that. But my sister isn't the... best to get along with, and Cass doesn't get angry at people that don't make her angry. So if I made Astora happy, she wouldn't pick fights, and then Cass wouldn't fight."

>She bound herself to not use her hand so she could be here. Otherwise she wouldn't let herself follow you, for fear you wouldn't grow up.
"..."
>Astora loves you a lot, you know?
"I...uh... N-next question?"

>If Abel was a warlock, what kind of familiar do you think he'd get?
"Uh... A wolf. Yeah, definitely a wolf. That's just like him. Protects his pack, hunts, he's honest... Yeah, his familiar would be a wolf."

>So, what do you think you're going to get for a familiar?
"... I don't know. I.. don't know enough about myself. I just hope it's not a bug."

>You having a fun time on the journey? Do you think you're growing up well due to it?
"I am! Everyone's so interesting. I don't know how well I'm growing up, but it can't be all bad with such nice people around."

>Are there any witch gifts you wish you had?
"... Not really. Gifts aren't... all good, and because of that, I just want the ones that I want."

>Is there a certain familiar you think would be a lot of fun to have?
"I think having something like an otter, or a cat would be cool! Something cute."
>>
>>22195702
Well, I'm sure you'll get a great familiar even if it isn't what you expect. Until then Abel will probably try to fill in as your familiar and do his best.

If you're ever scared remember that the rest of the group loves you and will horrifically dismember anyone who hurts you.

"... I'm not supposed to worry about it, he said."

>Your gift of dreams seems pretty rad.
"Well, that's different. That's a more minor one, and the dreams it gives people sometimes... brings up bad memories."

"I think it's... worrying. Because he and Gabriel are the same type of thing, and from the way it sounds, Gabriel knows a lot more... so he can make much worse things."

>Why do you keep derailing Exabyte's campaign? I know he's a bit of a butt, but you shouldn't be so mean to him.
>Question filtered!
>But seriously, Ariana is the one character who struggles against what I planned to happen for pretty much everything. She acts out of what I'd planned her for. Getting worried about the Kraken is one such thing she's done.

>Have any embarrassing stories about Astora?
"Well, there was this time that I found her familiar snuggling with a tree..."

>Abel's a bit of a doof isn't he? Talking to his sword and things like that.
"There are more things in this world than he or I or even Kale knows. I believe that abel hears his sword speak, because I know him. The sword must be magic."
"... Come to think of it, calling him a doof sounds exactly like what Astora would call him."

>At what point did you start to really trust Abel?
"... When Crios came back, just after I told Abel what I was. He looked at Crios, looked at me, and then acted like I didn't say anything. He was willing to be burned for helping a witch without even hesitating. Everything he's done since then has been... I don't know the words. Genuine. He helps anyone who wants it. He'll fight for a complete stranger, and he never ever ever judges you, unless you want to hurt someone, and even then he'll listen. That's the kind of person he is, and I don't just trust him- I really respect him."

>And with that, CHARACTER INTERVIEW: WHICH WITCH is complete!
