The Following Thread Will Contain At Least One Of The Following: Questing, Gundam, Zeon Fanwank, Brainwashing, Zabi Apologists, Slapping, Newtypes, and Horribly Contrived Plot Devices. Hide This Thread If You’re Not Buying Any, Because It Is Exactly What It Says On The Tin.

Previous Threads can be found at: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Bright%20Quest

Quest runs from 9:30am, PST, until 2pm PST OR until interest peters out / I need to sleep.

The system:
Roll D20's. On rare occasion, I'll ask for a D100.

What is a NewType?
NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.

Currently:
Bright Noah has 1 NTP
Char Aznable has 1.5 NTP
Amuro Ray has 2 NTP

For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.

You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

Here's the general gist of what we're working with:
Bright Noah joins Zeon instead of the Earth Federation (For Reasons Yet Unexplored), and is promoted to Captain of the Musai class cruiser ‘Longfellow’ for his actions during the One Week Battle / Battle of Loum. Newly minted Majors Bright and Char Aznable are ordered by Dozle Zabi to perform a joint investigation of the rumored Earth Federation Mobile Suit in development at Side 7.

>[X] Go to hanger, find Christine, and go over any technical documents on the Siegfried with her. Also: how can it hold this many Zudahs?

Upon ascending the gangplank to the gantry door with Mohai, who had his over-sized chair again draped over a shoulder as if it weighed nothing, Bright found a small reception awaiting him, made of the crew of the ‘Longfellow’ who had already made the transfer and the technicians from Pezun. As he crossed over the threshold, the assembled crew offered a sharp salute, and a shrill boson’s whistle played over the comm. speakers in the ceiling. Bright returned the saluted, as did Mohai after placing the chair behind himself, and bright asked “Permission to come aboard?”

“Permission granted. Captain on deck!”

Bright dropped the salute, as did the crew, and he said, “At ease. Does anyone know where to find Christine? The technician who I met with Professor Ceff earlier?”

Another Pezun mechanic came forward. “She’d be in either her quarters, getting squared away, or in the hangar. Shall I find her for you, sir?”

“Please. Ask her to rustle up any technical documents she might have on the ‘Siegfried’ and to meet me at my quarters, soonest.”

The mechanic saluted, and hurried off.

Bright snapped his fingers. “Oh! Would one of you mind grabbing a tool box and assisting my XO in installing his char?”

The Pezun techs blinked, and looked over to Mohai, who hefted the chair. He paused in the motion, holding it above deck without strain. “What?” He said to the silent glances from him to the chair and back, “I’m not sized for standard issue.”

A few of the girls chuckled at that.

“I’m just glad you’re not Dozle-sized,” Bright quipped, heading to a shipboard map to ascertain the layout of the ship. Ah. So that’s how they fit that many Mobile Suits into the hangar – there were two hangars. One below the bridge, above the engine nacelles, and the other directly amid-ships, where the hull met in a dorsal – the dorsal assembly apparently folded out to launch the suits. ‘I’ll have to see that – must be one hell of an arraignment.’

He picked up his bag and grabbed a ring elevator to carry him to the bridge. The Captain’s quarters were located above and behind the bridge. Convenient.

A few minutes later, and he had his gear unpacked, his photos magnetically secured to the wall behind the desk, and the ‘75 Luna single malt stowed away.

He swiftly booted up the computer. After inserting his hardware encryption key and registering it with the new machine, he set about searching the onboard server for technical readouts on the Siegfried.

He found a few points of interest. Overall length: 250.0 meters, Overall width: 180.0 meters, Overall height: 60.0 meters, Main Armament: 2 x 2-Barrel Mega Particle Guns, 6 x ‘dumb-fire’ rocket launchers, 2x missile bays.

On her drives and overall speed, he found nothing. Bright scowled at the screen.

His door chimed, and he said “Enter.” The door opened, revealing the young woman he had met earlier.

[2/4]
>>
>>22247476
She announced herself with a brisk “Sergeant Christine Ask, reporting as ordered, sir!”

Bright gestured to the seat before his desk and said “Come in, make yourself comfortable. I wanted to ask you a few questions on the Siegfried, if you can answer them.”

She sat, and said “Of course, sir.”

“Top speed?”

“Unknown, sir,” she said pleasantly.

Bright very carefully reached up and pulled the monitor into the secured position on top of his desk. “Unknown?”

She smiled, or rather tried to – it was a bit strained, and pulled to the left a bit. “I don’t think it’s been fully tested yet, sir.”

‘Great,’ bright thought to himself, ‘Another prototype.’ Aloud he asked “You mentioned that Ceff had stolen the Siegfried?”

Again, the same, strained expression. “The Professor filed the proper paperwork for acquisitions.”

Bright raised an eyebrow. “Did he?”

“Via Laser comm.” she continued. “Transmitted to an automated system.”

“Automated.”

“As we pulled away.”

Bright reached up an pinched the bridge of his nose. He suddenly felt a headache coming on. “Of course. I’d say I like his style, except it’s half-assed.”

“Sir?”

“If you’re going to steal something, snag the manual.” Bright elaborated. “I can use the base calculations for a standard Musai to brief Char with my finalized plans, but those are bound to be incorrect.”

“So… why not go into a full burn when we leave, to see how fast she can go?” Asked Ask.

“We’d hit something.”

She did the math. “Oh.

“Should I requisition radiation suits then, sir? While we’re still at port, I mean?”

“Have a corporal do it in a half hour – I’ll send a list down to the ready room by then of things I need to have picked up.”

“Understood.”

Armaments of the Zudah's, projected performance envelopes, and her progress with the automated testing gear.
Also, anything we should know about the launch catapults and the non-standard hangar.

>Requisitions
Radiation suits, anti-rad medication, spare parts for the Zudah's and Zaku's, spare ammunition and missiles. A company of commando's if we can swing it, plenty of infantry weapons and anti-MS equipment. A briefcase of discretionary funds (i.e. bribe money for the commandos to use in Side 7).
Extra food and water, because we'll be out there for a bit.

I should also add to that list: You have 8 Mobile Suits - 5 Modified Zudah's and 3 Zaku II's. You currently have only 4 pilots, as follows:

Current Pilots

Wing Commander
Lt. Jean Hatzenbuehler
C. Chance Tavolacci
P1st. Aron Handwerker
P1st. Erza Retersdorf

(One of these days I'll make up pilot photos of them.)

As such, you can requisition / interview some pilots if you'd like.
>>
>>22247626

Yes, more MS pilots would be a good idea. See if we can get three pilots, that way we have a spare for when one is undergoing extensive repairs, or if we need to slap some sense into Jean mid fight...

Oh, if we only have 4 pilots and 8 suits, then we need to get 4 more pilots.

We also determined Bright has a pilot ability score of 56 last thread. Do you want to keep a single suit in reserve for Bright's exclusive use, or slot them all out with regular pilots, and take one out 'for a sunday drive' when you feel like it?
>>

Get 4 pilots. I like the Idea of the MC of this quest being a commander of a ship instead of a MS pilot.
>>
>>22247797
I'd say 4 pilots, and have enough spare parts on hand that we could build another suit. We'll improve our piloting ability, yes, for emergencies. But first and foremost we're a ship's captain.

looks like a consensus has been reached. 4 pilots are the order of the day. also, do we have any infantry soldiers on board? if not then we should try and get a squad. there is a high chance for infantry combat on side 7, especially since we are going to sneak into it...

So it would indeed seem. They're wanting me to false flag op a 'captured' Zudah into Side 7 to aide in Gundam Jacking the '78. Seriously. I'd never have though to try that.

Feel free to join in, if you'd like. I'll be running until 2pm pst. Assuming I'm able to keep interest up, what with how slow my hands are going today.

Note to self: winter + Job working outside + Quests = slow.

“What can you tell me bout the Zudah’s standard armaments?” Bright asked.

“Plenty,” Christine answered, “Though you’ve probably guessed most of it already – it relies on the Zaku’s line of hand-held armaments, however the standard shield unit on the three Zudah’s can also hold two sturm faust fire and forget rockets, without tying up a standard hardpoint on the hips. The standard shields also have a fold-out spike bayonet, for gouging out a ship’s systems or holding the shield fast in a location. The tower Shields on the two ten S’s, however, can hold three sturm fausts, but lack the spike bayonets. They should hold up to a bit of bashing, though the solor panels might not hold up to it all that well,” she said. “We also have three of the one thirty five millimeter anti-ship rifles, and enough cartridges to last a while.”

“Do we have enough Zaku weapons aboard to fully outfit the five Zudah’s and our Zaku’s at the same time?”

Christine pulled a clipboard from her lap and consulted it. “We currently have twelve one twenty mil Zaku machine guns, eight two eighty bazookas, fourteen heat hawks, ninety sturm fausts, and the three one thirty five’s in stores. And three tones of ammo for the one twenty’s.”

Bright whistled. “Dozle’s loaded us up for bear.”

Christine lowered the clip and looked over it at Bright. “Dozle? Sir, this is just the load out we requisitioned from Pezun for testing the Zudah’s. As far as I know, we haven’t received any munitions from Lord Zabi.”

[1/2]
>>
>>22248164
Bright eyed her for a moment. “And what army were you expecting us to blow up for you?”

She shrugged. “Whichever one you felt like? Sir?”

Bright sighed. Definitely getting a headache. “Performance envelope. Tell me about your projected performance envelope for the Zudah’s.”

“We expect them to be two and a half times faster than an MS-06F Zaku II.”

“What?”

She explained the math. The Zaku II had a maximum thrust of 22500 kg, while four of the Zudahs could, theoretically, max out at 58700 kg. The Solor Job modification would allow for near instantaneous turn rate due to the original thruster design of the Zudah, while the ‘ZuZaks’, with the Zaku backpack thruster units, had a slightly lower turn ratio, they should be able to keep up in the long run.

“…and that brings us to Cleff’s bastard.”

“The ‘triple’, was it?”

Christine sighed, nodding. “We have no idea exactly how fast it will go. None. It could end up going slower than the SJ’s. It could also end up going faster than Char’s Zaku IIS. Ceff has ‘Faster than Evar’ and ‘To Jaburo With Love’ written on the spec’s ‘maximum thrust’ and ‘power to weight ratio’ fields.”

“Oh for the love of god…. Is anyone going to be able to handle that thing?” Bright groused sourly.

“Honestly? I have no idea. Whoever you assign to it - I hope they’re good.” Christine replied.

Bright mentally set the frustration he was feeling aside. It took some doing, but he managed. “Is there anything I should know about the hangar amidships? It’s not standard, that much I could tell from the ship’s diagram.”

“Well….”

[2/3]
>>
>>22248173
---------5 MINUTES LATER-----------

“Oh for the love of god…”

Christine cringed behind her clipboard as bright stared, flabbergasted, at the midship’s hangar.

It was filled with Zudah’s slotted in diagonally to each other, on little Dias that had foot clamps to help keep them in position. Christine had explained the little dias would elevate when the hangar door opened, and allow the Zudah to launch from the bay like a missile. To land them, all the Pilot had to do was touch down on the dias, and it would descend and lock the Zudah into it’s slot.

It was efficient, but crazy.

And he couldn’t fire the main cannons while doing it.

“Please tell me that mad man left the secondary hangar alone?”

“More or less?” piped Christine.
>>
>>22248181
>couldn’t fire the main cannons while doing it.
Well that's all kinds of design problems.

>More or less?
This is not reassuring, Christine. Tell us what that crazy old coot has done to the secondary hangar.
>>
ouch.
>>
>>22248181

well, just add 'Tactical Zudah Deployment' to the list of things we have to test...
maybe see if they can alter the main cannons to fire around it...
"and what other 'upgrades' has this ship been given?'
>>
Rolled 2 + 25

>>22248241
Mainly it's more a case of "do not fire the guns while the men shoot out of the hangar bay at insane speeds."

Thankfully, see the 'Insane speeds' part. The dice roll will tell you how long it takes to deploy the Zudah's from the 'Zudah Cave'. Because, seriously, nothing else is ever going to fit in there. This is going to be a major retrofit if / when the Zudah's are expended, retired, or 'lost' - one way or the other.
>>
>>22248304
low is good?
so 27 seconds to deploy?

>>
>>22248412
...apparently it takes 34 seconds to re-arm.

Is anyone else thinking BigRang's Oggo repair - reload - rearm system prototype?

Because I'm thinking BigRang's Oggo repair - reload - rearm system prototype.

Just with Zudah's.

What the hell did I just give you people? This isn't a Space Cruiser - It's a Mobile Rape Platform.
>>
>>22248467

now, just imagine what it would be like if we got a 20 on the penzun prototype roll.... this was only an 18!
>>
>>22248492
I should have made you roll a d100, except you would have gotten a 99. I'm sure of it. And then it would be the same thing, only better, somehow. Probably an ActZaku or something.
>>
>>22248467
eh, wouldn't it be 27 and 34 seconds of "can't fire your guns due to Zudah crossing" for deploy/recover respectively?

not to mention the actual rearm time in-hangar...
>>
>>22248524

roll d100, get 100, suddenly MASS PRODUCED BIG ZAMS EVERYWHERE!!!

though we would have probably accidentally invented the gelgoog...
>>
>>22248527
To mitigate the absolute Feddie Hate - yeah. We'll roll with that. 27 Seconds to fully deploy (read: Fire Ze) Zudah's, 34 seconds to recover the Zudah's (once the pilot's are trained enough to be used to the maneuver - this is crazy close quarters launch and recovery), re-armament is as simple as racking the old gun and grabbing a new one, then waiting for your turn in the launch que, so a minute, tops?

My brain is full of Zudah's.
>>
Oh, and for the Zudah False Flag Op, we need ZIRCON to supply our commando teams with Feddie uniforms, ID's, and credentials.
We need them to provide us with a ZIRCON double-agent that's currently providing false intel to Federation Intelligence, who can tell them that he hit jackpot and stole a Zudah for them to reverse-engineer. And then they need to have the V-Project scientists get wind of that, so that they'll be demanding to have that Zudah taken to their facility for analysis.
>>
>>22248569
Re-arm would also include re-fueling, and if Lister-upgrades get kicked in... vulcan spam cans replaced.

hell, if the launch/recovery is really cramped, combat recovery might not even be reasonably possible if we're under fire... Gotta dodge inbound beams, after all!

>Zeon in charge of designing shit

Have we told the lovely Pezun R&D woman that someone needs a good punch in the face for that forward hangar design? Unless the ship's main guns have a recharge time longer than 34 seconds, in which case it's just a silly design instead horribly stupid
>>
>>22248878
I can tell you it takes about 45 seconds to fire both main guns of a Musai in the Homeworld 2 Gundam Mod. I have no idea if that is indicative of the actual series or not, as the guns tend to 'fire by plot'.
>>
>>22248878

you are now envisioning a quest where we play as a Zeon R&D Scientist, cranking out crazy, yet obscenely efficient prototypes and mobile armors...

and it shall be called Pezun Quest, and it shall be GLORIOUS!!!

also, after 12 failed attempts at drawing a zudah, i have abandoned that venture...
>>
More or less translated to: Ceff retrofitted it into a fully kitted repair bay.

A repair bay that still managed to hold three Zaku’s, which were comfortably locked in place along walls. If it weren’t for the reassembly slab and parts crates, four Zaku’s could have fit in the bay.

It seemed safe enough. Jean was off to the side, staring out the observation window, looking rather shocked. Upon seeing Bright, he said, “Dunno if it’s madness, or genius, but it scares the hell out of me.”

“The Zudah bay?” asked Bright.

“The Zudah bay.” Confirmed Jean.

“The Zaku hangar seems alright…. Right?”

“It’ll serve,” Jean said. “It’s a bit cramped with the repair slab, but we’ll make do. Don’t know what they expect us to do with the Zaku’s if they need to have a couple Zudah’s in here to fix.”

“There are magnetic pads in your Zaku’s feet,” Christine said, “Use them. Then get out, and come back inside.”

“You want us to clamp the Zaku’s to the hull?” Jean asked in horrified awe.

“Well, yes. Is there a problem with that?”

“Just make sure they have some kind of safety net or secure line to ensure they don’t wind up lost in space, alright?” Bright said, turning away. “I need to type up some requisition forms. Jean, straighten miss Ask out on the Zaku issue, alright?”

“Aye, skipper.” Jean said, “Gladly.”

>>22248978
Bright went back to his room and locked the door.

This ship was either going to kill him, or… or something.

His headache was annoying enough that he took an aspirin before sitting down to requisition the various stores and personnel he would need.

Two mon- no, better make it four. Four months food and water, Four mobile suit pilots, two commando teams (twelve men each) and weapons / equipment for them, five hundred radiation suits, anti-radiation medication, spare parts for the Zudah's and Zaku's, spare ammunition and missiles.

It was like ‘the twelve days of Christmas’, except with military supplies.

‘And a ZIRCON agent From Side 3,’ he finished.

A few minutes later, his comm. officer called, saying there was someone on the line to speak with him. Bright accepted the call.

A blonde woman appeared on his monitor. “Oh. It IS you.”

“Miss Conty,” Bright said, nodding to the screen. “To what do I owe the pleasure of this call?”

Jane held up a printout, reading off the bottom, “And a ZIRCON Agent from Side Three? Is this a joke?”

Bright grimaced. “Wow. This headache is pretty bad. I didn’t actually mean to write that, but… No, it is not a joke. Yes, I do need a ZIRCON agent. The Side Three bit is mostly irrelevant.”

“Oh?” She asked, obviously wanted to know more.

Bright paused, considering. “Would you hold it against me… if I asked you to show me your clearance level?”

She raised a single eyebrow. “I’d expect you too. Wait one, transmitting.”

[DC 15 PASS]
She moved, ostensibly to plug in her hardware encryption key, and transmitted her clearance level. As the computer translated the information, Bright saw a segment in the administrative clearance grant section that caught him off guard. Code 0000.

This woman WAS a ZIRCON agent.

“…you’re not from logistics, are you?” Bright asked, as the clearance came up as Top Secret, EO, SCI, CDS, and DCCDS.

Bright wasn’t even sure what the last two were. Controlled Data Study? Document Classification and Controlled Data Section?

Her wry smile shook him out of it. “No, I’m not.”

Bright inserted his own encryption key, and toggled the secure line function on the computer. Once the connection was secure, he gave her the basic rundown – That he and Char Aznable had been ordered by Dozle Zabi to perform a joint investigation of the rumored Earth Federation Mobile Suit in development at Side 7.

And then he told her his plan.

Her eyes darted back and forth as he explained the details, and what he would need. EF Uniforms, EF security clearance documents, forged papers, contacts within the Side 7 ZIRCON agents, and most importantly, a ZIRCON double-agent that's currently providing false intelligence to Federation Intelligence, who can tell them Bright’s team had stolen a Zudah for them to reverse-engineer. And then that word would need to reach the feddie Mobile Suit researchers, so that they'll be demanding to have the ‘captured’ Zudah taken to their facility for analysis.

“…and that will be when Char distracts them, and our team captures the enemy mobile suits.” He finished.

“That is crazy,” she whispered.

Bright shrugged. “That’s just plan A1 – the fool’s luck option.”

“How many plans do you have?”

“Twenty. Probably be up to thirty four by the time we get to Side seven.”

Her eyes were still darting about as she considered something. “I… might be able to help you. Give me a half hour.”

“Fair enough,” Bright said, then seemed to remember, “Oh! About my requisitions?”

Jane smiled. “I’ll forward them over to Logistics.”

And with that, the screen went dark.

Dear Son,

I am writing to you today from the surface of Earth. It’s beautiful here, what with the birds, and nature, and things.

Yes, fine, I admit it – I haven’t actually set foot outside of the lab. On the up-side, we’ve managed to [REDACTED] the [REDACTED] with the [REDACTED] for the ongoing [REDACTED]. Though that’s probably all classified.

I might be able to get away with this though: [REDACTED]-1 is ready to [REDACTED]-2 is at [REDACTED] and there’s[REDACTED]-3.

…That probably wasn’t allowed either, come to think of it.

Look, keep up with your studies, would you? I think your hobby might become important in the coming months.

And listen to Fraw Bow, for once, and eat your sandwiches. Space Bread is good for you, even if it still has the crusts on.

-Tem Ray

Amuro stared at the email before hitting the delete key on his computer. “Why the hell does he even bother? It’s always half deleted by the EFF anyway. Stupid old man…”
