It's Deathwatch Chapter Creation Time!

First, let's see why our chapter was founded!
>>
Rolled 71

>>22280541
Hmm, Strategic Prognostication.

Alright, let's see WHEN it was founded!
>>
Rolled 24

>>22280565
40th Millennium, so fairly recently. Alright, let's find out who gave rise to our illustrious chapter!
>>
Rolled 1

>>22280574
Aw, bit of bad luck. Looks like we're of Ultramarine stock. Let's see how pure we are then, shall we?
>>
Rolled 8

>>22280583
Aaaaaaand we're Pure. Well, perhaps we'll have an interesting demeanor.
>>
Rolled 27

>>22280588
Suffer Not the Work of Heretics, eh? Seems we're definitely a little holier-than-thou. Perhaps we'll get a gene-seed deficiency of some sort.
>>
Rolled 51

>>22280600
Nope, pure as the day our cells were scraped off Guilliman's ass. Let's see what sort of characteristics we're known for!

Toughness and Willpower. I suppose we hold up well under torture. Let's see who our chapter hero was!
>>
Rolled 72

>>22280615
Oooh, a Battle-Brother seconded from our parent chapter. Let's roll once again to see what rank he was.
>>
Rolled 6

>>22280619
Our first Master of the Forge! What did he do that was so worthy of remembrance?
>>
>>22280625
Chocked on a chicken bone.
>>
Rolled 28

>>22280625
Hmm, something related to Orks. Perhaps he out-meched a Big Mek? Well, no matter, what's our home world like?
>>
>>22280630
He was purer than the rest. That Chicken bone showed him right.

NONE PURER!
>>
Rolled 64

>>22280636
A Hive World! How... Pedestrian. What sort of terrain has it got?
>>
Rolled 8

>>22280640
Oooh, interesting. An ocean world with hives rising from the depths. How do we govern such a place?
>>
>>22280636
He duelled a ork warbos in a squig eating contest, bested the foul xeno who lost its face and the WAAAGH disbanded, saving a entire sector from bloodshed but the Master of the forge choked on the last one.
>>
Rolled 1

>>22280651
Distantly, it would appear. I wonder what the Blessed Primarch would say...

Well, let's find out how closely we adhere to his greatest work!
>>
op you are doing this completely alone, why don't you just sit in your room and make up space marine chapters.
>>
>>22280656
A hero's death.
>>
Rolled 5

>>22280660
We adhere strictly to the codex. Ho hum. What sort of Solo Mode ability have we got?
>>
i dont get it. does he just roll and explain what he makes up?
>>
>>22280664
Especially as he would not receive help from the other Battle brothers, for he was to pure for that.

At least that are how the constant hand gestures were interpreted as.

Holier than though prick.
>>
>>22280684
>>22280662
ye wtf r u doin op
>>
>>22280684
He's going from the Rites of Battle book.
>>
>>22280818
then why is he telling us? Even if he wants us to play with tem afterwards, why rolling on-board instead of for himself and then presenting it to us? Not only could he have made them look awesome, connecting the dots in his presentation, he also wouldnt have made people feel left out of the process because it wouldve been just prepwork.

Mainly because with many people getting involved, and thinking about them, you might get something neat.
OP's pic was from a chapter randomly generated on /tg/.
>>
>>22280999
yes, and by rolling for himself he's denying anyone else any involvement
>>
>>22281021
Huh, sorry, wasn't completely paying attention, you're right. That is strange.
>>
>>22280999
But /tg/ helped roll for the BJags, thus feeling involved in their creation and were more invested in fleshing them out.

That and it's hard to get behind yet another ork-adversary chapter, much less one from Ultrasmurf stock whose specialty is being even purer and more self-righteous than the Ultramarines.
>>
>>22281068
Hell, we had like 4 or five threads just for their fluff.

Everyone want me to take over from OP's bullshit?

Our librarian really really hated Orks. Enough in fact, to fuck up an entire Waaagh for shits and giggles. The survivors still fear his name.

1d100 for our Homeworld.
>>
>>22281792

Yeah losing an "occulobe" sounds more damaging than "can't see in the dark as well as other marines". It sounds like "lost the part of your brain that interprets visual signals".

Seeing eye beasts, white power rods as weapons, perhaps from a planet with an inhospitable surface so the people all live in dark caves/tunnels and thus don't use their eyes at all.

Helmets without lenses just flat armour could be pretty intimidating.

Of course a lot of that stuff could be changed by rolls yet to be made.

I think it would be neat to have these marines include a lot of animal iconography on their armor and weapons, as a way of preserving the dead world's ecosystem. Jetpacks modded to roar like its vicious sky-predators, chainswords howling like a pack hunter creature that once stalked the night... Maybe name the companies after different animals.
>>
>>22282322
Normal strength, a full 10 companies.

So to sum up what we have so far, before we enter into allies and enemies.

[NAME REDACTED] Was founded in M35, and descended from the noble Ultramarines. However, over the interceding millenniums they have developed their own culture and tactics, while still following most of the guidelines of their founders. Notable for having some problems with their geneseed, unusual in a Ultramarines successor. The chapter is based on a long dead world, barren and dead. Nothing grows here, above ground at least. Below the surface, an entire ecosystem of blinded and bioluminescent creatures exists, and the chapter is known to keep several of the more useful species as companions. They have adopted a system of venerating the dead, doubtlessly influenced by their choice of homeworld, and the influence of their most famous member, a head librarian known as "The Watcher in the Dark" to the chapter.

Saying that loyalist Night Lords who watch and wait making sure their target is worthy of a terrifying assault rather than just fucking up the local civvies isn't a bad side line to go with the blind, watchers, honouring the fallen stuff.

Now since assaults and devastators dont get shining performances out of rhinos, they get jumpjets for their tasks.

As for companion animals, how about dogs. They might not have low light vision, but they see just fine and as sharp as any other marine. And for that they use dogs.

Hmm our eyes suck, and the eyes are one of the weakest points on the head.

Take out the eye and put armour over the sockets.

...to thesaurus website...

Alternatives for "Watcher".

Beholder, Sentinel, Sentry, Observer, Witness.

Witness seems like a kinda interesting one I've not heard of being used but dunno if I can make a good "adjective + noun" pairing out of it.

Could go with Witness(es?) of the "something" ... the fall, the scouring (of the planet)...Blinding? (of the ancestor) ... no idea just throwing random shite out.

If we go back to that cosmic flare wrecking the planet and blinding/damaging eyes of the survivors something like Witnesses of the Light would work, and be a nice juxtaposition with all the darkness in their theme and charcter.

>>
>>22283457
Hey I was just throwing it out there. If it's not wanted, oh no, It's no big deal.
I just figured, with the whole blinding aspect, coming from a founding chapter big on the letter U, it might be interesting. Sorry it pissed you off.
>>
>>22283390

I was just about to suggest that then I got distracted.

Certainly it is one which jumped out to me after looking up the thesaurus stuff.

Could go with The Veiled Witness, as the chapter itself is a singular entity.
>>
>>22283428

I do like the name Polyphemos for the chapter homeworld. Or home system. Or battlebarge.
>>
>>22283457
Guy was just doing his research and wanted to try something, no need to shut out creativity.
>>22283390
Question is, what did they witness? Maybe some of their chapter fell to Chaos during their founding and became the noise marines they now fight, lost in the ecstasy of hearing that the loss of their eyes has brought them?
>>
>>22283516

Or the hunting beasts?
>>
>>22283525
The end of their world?

Possibly the chapter was founded by the remnants of those who watched the star destroying the world by the machinations of chaos, and were blinded by it, although their third eye was opened.
>>
What should their colors and heraldry be? I figure that since they can't see conventionally, colors wouldn't matter much, so they might just go with gray, but their heraldry deserves more thought.
>>
>>22283525
maybe they witnessed the scouring of their homeworld?
>>
>>22283531
The tusked dogbat things could be Ullaxes. That sounds significantly sci-fi beasty and even has a bit of "ululate" in there to hint at their echolocating nature.
>>
>>22283525
Could have been their Chief Librarian was captured by a Noise Marine band, and after some time, they hung his brutalized corpse on a banner or something.
>>
>>22283525

Well two possiblities we already have are the blinding of the ancient librarian and the scouring of their homeworld.

Or just a general "they can be trusted to watch over people because they don't have the "weakness" of eyesight".
>>
>>22283553
>>22283560
Sounds good to me. I do still like the eyedea of the warband they face being their fallen brothers, though.
>>
>>22283525

Nah, the librarian hero witnessed something that burned his eyes off. Maybe the chapter founders were stuck on a ship with a failing gellar field and suffered an Event Horizon scenario, but the librarian snapped out of the "we don't need eyes to see where we're going" stage when he "saw" (with psychic sight) the light of the Emperor in the Warp that saved the ship from the warp monsters that were about to consume it?

There's an idea, they put out their eyes because their modified occulobe fucks with what they see, resulting in both seeing things that aren't there (Unreliability for combat), and Cthulu-esque "Dear lord, a squid is crawling out of that man's skull! OH DEAR GOD THATS NOT A SQUID WHAT IS THAT"
>>
>>22283595
it looks happy
>>
>>22283624

>>22283624

That's pretty cool. Tie that in with the stuff in >>22283583 about the founders being stranded in the warp, and their degraded oculobes started going haywire in the Warp, rendering them combat ineffective, until the librarian put out his eyes to get rid of the hallucinations and relied only on psychic powers and augumetic sensors to find and smite the heretics.

>>
From the days before the Age of Apostasy, the [REDACTED] was taken from Holy Terra and hidden on a faraway world. This ancient relic was rumored to have great power.

In some ancient half-garbled data records, the artifact had the power to see into the future... Imagine what Vandire could have done - to see what key events shaped the rest of Mankind!

Nay, in other fragments of records found in the destroyed Vault of Knowledge on [REDACTED], a solitary data-crystal tablet, badly burnt from an unknown acid, described the "opening of the universe" and the "revelation of the true universe". The purpose and meaning of the term "true universe" remains a mystery.

Until being sealed beneath the Asian Crypts on Terra, every scholar that tried to study the data-crystal in more detail was said to have lost their sanity in the same way - First by blinding their eyes violently, and then screaming until their lungs turned inside out. Autopsies of these unfortunate individuals indicated that their skulls were hollow and contained no grey matter whatsoever.

All scholars but one suffered this fate .

The excepting individual - the most lucid and worthy scholar of note, [REDACTED] of [REDACTED] - spent the rest of his days cackling madly and rolling dice; Many die of many sides. Where these die came, from noone could ascertain. They disappeared whenever placed out of sight.

The only words that escaped his lips from then on until his death of old age being "Your turn". An post-mortem examination revealed that his skull was bereft of a brain, just like the others.

>Edited cos I didn't like 1st version. First time writefagging.

The walls screamed at him and he screamed back. Brother Sargent Kathios felt the corruption burn around him as his jump pack carried him to the top floor of the palace. This place spelled madness for anyone without his chapters gifts, and certainly the Slaaneshi cultists and the thrice damned noise marines had not expected them to be here.

Landing on what he assumed to be a mutant Kathios let fly with a burst from his heavy bolter, the crack of armor buckling and the laughter/scream the followed told him that he had found another of Fulgrims sons.
