New to Skirmish Questing ?

Have no fear, soldier. No war is fought without its countrymen contributing to the victory of their nation. It would be a citizen's greatest honor to fight for the people they believe in.

Or are you perhaps of the warrior persuasion. Then my friend, let me tell you- that there is no other kind of life than that of pure, honest survival of the fittest...

The man twists his way through the undergrowth, pulling the cloak over his head as the first drops of rain began to fall. Nothing so far, but a few signs of scattered armor and weapons beyond salvage. The helm he had found was battered and offered no real protection, but it kept the wind off his face.

He had seen them from afar, crashing down. It had taken half the afternoon to make his way down here.
>>
>>22350135
He gripped the teralabe in his hand, looking it over before stuffing it back within its pocket. It told him the time, among other things. Not long until nightfall. He had hoped to find the others by now, any of them. He habitually checked his belt, the five black shards all still in place. Had to make them last until he found more, or could make his own. The mists had gotten less thick, he took as a good sign.

He shouldn't have slipped away to take care of that little bit of business, finding the others again was proving more troublesome than it should be.

The Ragnyllian captain oversees what's left of the Helghast unit, rifle slung over her shoulder as she stands atop their only vehicle, a heavy tank cobbled together from what was once an armored train.

Currently it wasn't serving very well as either, bogged down in the thick underbrush of this forsaken forest, smoke billowing from it's engine compartment. Isane hops down, feet sinking slightly into the mud, and barks out orders over the pounding rain...

"Major Gunther, I suggest you work on getting that tank of yours fixed, as soon as dawn breaks I'd like us up and moving again."

"Clyde, inventory. Gather up what supplies we have left, we may be stuck here a while."

"Kess, you're on sentry duty, secure our perimeter, I don't want any nasties sneaking up on us."

"Armitage, work with Clyde, see if you can't rig up a prosthetic for your leg, then help him set up camp for the night."

As the unit gets to work, she stares up at the night sky. Rain clouds obscured most of the stars, but maybe, just maybe there was enough to pinpoint their location...

This seems really interesting and I've been itching to play something for awhile now. Briefly went over the rules (need some sleep before fully engrossing myself) but is it somewhat easy to get into?

Seems like a lot of different stories and backgrounds going on and I'm sort of afraid of walking in and doing something stupid. If you don't mind a rookie I would love to join.
>>
>>22353386
Well, to be fair, that's what I did initially. I just blundered into a Skirmish Quest.
It was not until after a few more missions that I learned of the backstory and stuff.
>>
>>22353386

Everyone starts out rookie. Like any war you don't begin to understand it until you're in the trenches yourself, soldier.
>>
I shall now throw my nice hat into the ring.

>>
Thinking about joining, how easy is this game to pick up and understand?
>>
>>22357870
As easy as it is to write a trip and pick a class. The hardest part might be to read a unit card, but in essence all you need to know is that every turn you move, shoot or do another sort of action (casting a spell, reloading, searching, based on your class) and roll dices.
>>
>>22357915
What about these alternate loadouts I'm seeing on the 1d4 wiki page for infantry, are they allowed or forbidden like the armor mods?
>>
>>22358142
Right now they are forbidden since we are away in unknown land with no supplies. Only the resurrected players can have one if they died with it. We will probably come to find new ones eventually.
>>
errr when's the game going to be held though?
>>
>>22358702
Should be tomorrow evening 8-11pm EST
>>
>>22350291
Hours pass and night falls. Keeping a steady pace, he continues through the woods until he can see the ramshackle tank. Does not conform to any familiar design. Looted? He crouches down amid the brush, observing them for a time. Through the pouring rain, he can just make out their clothing. Uniforms, military. Ragnyllian. He rises from his hiding spot and approaches through the clearing.

With a shout that reverberates through his helm and throughtout the clearing, he calls out to them.

"HAIL, RAGNYLL!"
>>
>>22358702
In any case, scout is a good choice and very strong, welcome aboard.
>>
>>22360703
There's an upper limit to your levels, and we have no armory. 10 Exp per upgrade, 20 single time for 1 aspect.
>>
>>22360703

1st one's right. You can buy an extra squad member, up to a unit size of 4. Also, your upgrades are technically tied to the class you upgrade I believe. But you can switch to another class at pretty much any time. Finally there's an upgrade cap of 6 upgrades to any class.

Next there's aspects. Aspects are purchased for 20 XP and you can only buy Aspects for a class you personally have played. An Aspect then applies to every class you play. You can also upgrade your aspect 3 times on top of the usual upgrade caps.

2nd one there ain't one! Who do you think we are the Cloves? (Advancement's all just XP, no payment like Iffram or Clovis to be managed. No doubt you're sending all your pay home to those kids your spouse took away from you in the divorce)
>>
>>22360821
changing to mobile artilery, will switch to assault later, cause I want that scarab aspect >->
so once again, Het here. And

1) What are exp costs for various things? 10xp to boost any single stat correct? Any limits on that?
2) is there an armory some where for buying things? And how much do we get paid?
>>
>>22350291
>>22360179
No one was waving guns at him yet. Cautiously, he approaches closer.

"Fellow ragnylls, was it you who came through the vinculum anomaly?"

He should have been playing it more carefully, but a there was a slight hope they had some rations on them. Anything to eat, it had been so long. He was so hungry.
>>
>>22362431

"Oh! Hey there uh, person. Other Ragnyllians? Maybe we're not so lost as we thought! Um, do you know where we are? And what's a vinculicucumal whatever? I mean we did just kinda ride a tank outta hell - er. I guess I'm supposed to go get the Major before I start talkin' too much. Hey, Gunther! We got friendlies out here!"
>>
Sorry for incoming barrage of questions.

-Are we allowed to pick a vehicle? (Fell in love with BiTanks)
-I'm guessing we still have to choose an Infantry class for the crew in case our vehicle dies?
-"Crew can assist" I assume allows you to move and do an action the same turn?
-I'm guessing for squads that have multiple units we can roleplay for each of them or is it usually nameless grunts and the leader which is you?

Toss up right now between Pilot and Vanguard Knights. If I can't use a vehicle at the start then I'll just go with knights.
>>
>>22364070
"Yes, the vinculum. That mysterious energy which delineates realities and unrealities, life and death."

He scans the skies and consults his teralabe. "I can not say with certainty where we are. The vinculum is not so subtle here, easier to perceive. Yet we are among the living world. The stars in the sky are familiar. Either the vinculum has been torn open...or we are in a place where it waxes and wanes as a course of nature. Few such places exist, none larger than the land of Iffram."
>>
Large machine gun reportin' for duty. If tha bi-pod was a wee bit bigger, could make a good tent outta it.
>>
>>22364427

Roleplay is roleplay, you're encouraged to do whatever you'd like there.

I believe vehicles are fine, and what you'd usually do in that case is go Pilot class and choose a vehicle. [P-Bt] or some similar designation.

Moving and acting both in the same turn is standard, you're assumed to be able to do that unless the card tells you you can't. I don't have much experience with vehicle crews but I believe you can upgrade extra crew members to give extra actions, or something along those lines.

>-I'm guessing for squads that have multiple units we can roleplay for each of them or is it usually nameless grunts and the leader which is you?

1. Yes
2. Yes you may, Normally people pick pilot to further enchance their armor capabilities- but having a "secondary" class for when you eject is acceptable. Note however that the price for not being a [Ace Pilot] class means that vehichles are secondary-. Also, for as long as you're in your vehichle, you are not accruing experience in your secondary class.

To format co-armor units use [Bt1/A-] as an example. This means that you are a bitank pilot with an A squadron riding. Meaning a gunner , a loader, and a driver may take up their roles in your Armor party. Your CO is not required to keep note of your Co-Class since you are primarily an armor unit first.
3. Because of Question 2, your secondary class- should they come in groups could take up seat in your Vehichle however this means that no other unit may board it unless they are [platforming]. A crew member offers one extra act for your vehicle or may play at being Driver.

4. This can be played up either way. But due to the fatality rate ....
>>
>>22364743
>>22364958
All right cool. Guess I'll be a pilot riding a BiTank then.

What does the "L" mean next to the movement of the tank? Anything special?
>>
>>22365174

Vehicles often move or draw range in vehicle lengths, rather than set hexes. This has something to do with their more cumbersome nature and also to do with the scale of hexes on varying maps being different. A length can be approximated by comparing the size of the vehicle to the hexes on the board.
>>
>>22365368
Ah ok i'll keep that in mind.

>Must be set up prior to firing

Younger than he was, relatively new to command? A speech attempting to appear tough for inexperienced troops, mixed with condescension. She wasn't very good at it.

Chapter 4: A shadow of Hope.

The snow fell unimpeded, and the undead soldiers of the Black Deserters marched forward into the unknown gale, their faces already caked with ice. Mixed in their ranks are undead from all stages of Ragnyll's insurrection in voss- and more often than not there would be an ex voss soldier mixed in among them here and there.

Mana Regina Lanista troops through the freezing plains of ice, showing no signs of slowing down.

That was until Lt. Zed held up a hand which stopped the marching dead soldiers in their tracks. All around was only white plains, an endless aurora and 2 dead trees could be seen.

" Before we continue- it has come to my attention that you have not asked us any questions since our exodus, Mana. And that would be normal. After all, that is probably your first concern... so ? Past this point we can't have any more guesses of each other and we will need to be on the level so that there won't be any surprises. Does that make sense ? "
>>
>>22368931
"This cold is invigorating don't you think? It's been a while since I could feel anything. But yes we need to talk, what do you want to know?"
>>
>>22369183

You've had a lovely tour in the underworld did you not ? But now you are here in the mortal plane, one Valknyrian casualty released from Hel among many thousands that will no doubt be dropped in these lands with nothing to guide them. The first hour of this awakening will not be kind to them. Especially now that the Ifframi sees this as an act of invasion- and that these lands are smokescreened with the walking dead. We have done all we can on our end I imagine.

But I will cut to the point- what is it that you intend to do ? "
>>
>>22369297
"Now that you got prevented me from carving a kingdom in the underworld? Petty revenge on Iffram. I heard they had this nice sword called Excaliber. Then I need to talk with grandfather. After that who knows I'm tempted to find Helena I have a promise to honor and then... Well world peace would be nice. But that's not really the question there what does the person wanting me on this side ask of me?"
>>
>>22343531
(I'll be coming back. Soon. I hope.)
>>
" Hyuck hyuck hik, I suppose there are no problems here, then. Bu I will let you in on a little something as a consolation prize. IronCommand has no hand in this plot, but now they are being informed regardless over hyper resonance radios.

In fact you could say this was a singlehanded terrorist plot from yours truly. Our fate will be to the incinerator if we are caught - by anyone- in fact. " Soldiers sway to the right and left. A semi circle surrounds the two, their stance completely still- like a corpse.

" Only those who are aware of it going on will be able to listen in- but at least it will get you a clean line all the way to the Valknyre range. And if nothing else, it will get you in contact with the others around here. "

Zed crosses around her as he paces in circles.

" And once you've linked up with the rest, our sponsor would be happy to let you loose while we faff about and disappear a township or two. Iffram is already in a sorry state to deal with a covert invasion AND a zombie plague so it should be completely feasible to have your way with the Ifframi.

So, do you wish to see the radio ? Or would you like to settle our differences here and now ? "

Mana shows no sign of being intimidated by the group of undead.
"My enlistment ended when I died the second time and I may need to enlist your help for things you love to do so much such as killing innocent civilian. In fact I see no reason to kill you I just wish that wizard didn't resurrect me. Though I'll never admit it to anybody else. Get me that radio."
>>
A crackle erupts from the portable radio in Gunther's tank. The monster was hooked up to an Ibonyte crystal and with a bit of radio magic, the elementalists were able to hotwire a communique the hung in the air with only one thing to say-

" ghast Do you copy !? Hellghast do you copy ! IronCommand to Hellghast do you copy !? "

" We caught something ! We got a signal from Ragnyll ! "

Somewhere in the Wylds, the ragtag group that gathered from the woodwork crowds around the tent surrounding Gunther's Heavy tank. Their hearts racing.

" IronCommand ! This is Hellghast ! We copy ! Whats the date and time, we've been throw- "

" ghast, do you copy ! Hellghast do you copy ! IronCommand to Hellghast do you copy !? "

" ...... they're not responding but we're getting such a hot wire on them, what's up ? "

Hammers tweaks with the knobs he realizes that the signal comes in regardless of frequency.

" It's not our signal.. it's echo from a hyper resonance radio. We're only catching what signals it's bouncing off, unless.... " Sgt. Hammers looks to the Ibonyte housing.

One of the elementalist pipes up,
" You want to bond some ibonyte to the same hyper resonance signal is that what you're getting at ?"
" If the microwaves are powerful enough which I think it is ... saw a friend do it to record a damn opera in Peace.... now get me another reciever, and you hold these magnets over the wire- and you- "

Mana descends into a cave smelling like the armpit of hell. Deep below, radio static echoes through the makeshift base. The voice of her former commander crisp and clear in her mind as it was during that deafening charge in Stallion.

" As you can see," explains a woman on the radio. Her one eye swiveling around unnaturally towards Mana as she approaches, " The lights in the sky are not just stars but over 10 thousand souls pouring onto the mortal plane. Turn on your recievers, Ragnyll and listen to their cries for help. "

" You should probably dig out your R-120 series radios too, you might find that some old timers are still packing that secondhand shit from Clovis "

In Ragnyll,

" Commander !" yells the warrant officer, "we're catching heavy traffic from that band ! It sounds like a war is happenning out there !"

" Put it on the main feed, I need to hear it for myself "

Nods travel down the consoles and operators stop on their seats as screams could be heard across the converted HQ.

" VVhere- where are vve ? DeathCommand, respond ! We have lost sight of the Titan, I repeat the Tita- AAAAAA "

" Ghouls ? Way out here ? How did the voss get demihumans all the fuck from Iffram ? " One of the operators began to go hysterical as she recalls the voice of her ex- fiance.

" requesting supply drops on sector 8 ? We're covered in snow, we can't move. Why is it snowing in July ? Where are we ? "

The feeds stop. The commander picks up the horn, livid from all the anguish that this had dug up.

" Alright you damned necrophiles, just what kind of game are you playing at now ! "

"Alright Hammers, hold that wire steady, if you feel a slight shock, well, that's normal. Okay, we ready?"

A sidelong glance at the Caster to her right, who nods in confirmation and places the small Ibonyte crystal into a juryrigged slot on the radio, and Isane begins to transmit.

"Ironcommand, anyone over in Ragnyll who reads me, this is Captain Isane of the Helghast. Long story, but the short of it is, we're stuck in Iffram, and something has brought a buncha dead troops back to the living. I want you to disregard anything you receive from said undead, until such a time as we can ascertain the situation here. Undead Ragnyll, I want you to hold off from open broadcasts, and to group up with your fellow soldiers for now..."

She grips the radio tighter, "Except for you, /Mana/, I want your current position so the Helghast can link link up with you. Do you all copy, over?"

" Mana Lanista from Hellghast ? Major ! It's.. It's a relief... I am assuming you fell in at the same time of the /event/ ? "
" I want you to give me your coordinates. Judging from delays in radio traffic you are probably beyond the Veil, and well within Iffram territory. There will be a major incident over this. And it's very likely that it could lead to war. ... Major, your mission is link up with as much Ragnyllians as possible and make it southwest towards the frozen lakes where Albane airbase can extract you ! I repeat I need you to do this as fast as possible before the ice melts - and before war breaks out with Iffram. We cannot send our forces there- we cannot openly admit to both Aeon and Iffram that these actions were condoned because they are not !

And if you can- enforce the elimination and arrest of the Black Deserters, this is AN ORDER ! "
>>
>>22370793
"Well you know I was busy doing stuff while being dead and I need to see that to completion. I'm also sorry to tell you that I need to get something from Iffram before leaving since they resurrected me and for that I need the deserter, since I doubt Helgast will follow me on that one. I promised that I'd send a crusade their way after all so I'll see you after a small trip to Aeon Ironcommand."
>>
>>22370848
>>22370793
"Don't be so quick to write us off Mana, but first...

Ironcommand, need I remind you that she /was/ declared dead, as such that makes her now /undead/, which the Ragnyllian Military does not condone, and she therefore no longer holds the rank of Major. Your words may carry weight, but don't you dare think for a second you have any sort of command authority here Mana. We're already on our way to your position, so let's have a chat in person before doing something boneheaded, understood?"
>>
>>22370848

" WAIT ! DON'T DISCONNECT ! As your commander I still hold and WILL HOLD my right and proper duty to see you back on the homefront ! and Zed ! If you show up on our doorstep we will properly have you court martialled in Eternia do you understand ?

Warrant Officer, run the triangulation on Mana's position, Hellghast 01, standby for encrypted coordinates.

And Mana - I will expect a report within 24 hours. We will make contact again at exactly this time and on this minute- miss your window and we cut the line until the next 24 do you copy ? "

On another line, another voice appears through the radio.
" Isane is that you ? It is me, Father Zwei ! *Cough cough..* ... please, child tell me your situation "
>>
>>22370933
>>22370994
"Hahaha, so which is it? Isane is right my contract with the military should have voided when I died the second time. Let's just say I keep my rank posthumously. So unless you have something that will keep me on the line I'll be cutting this short I have a petty war to start over getting my death realm robbed of me."
>>
>>22371067
"Given your history with the unit, I can't in good conscience let you do that alone, we'll be along shortly."

Quickly she gives the order to move out, then switches the line over to the Aeoni.

"Yes it's me Father, we're stuck in Bumfuck Iffram. The Black Deserters brought back a bunch of Ragnyll troops to life, including our 'dear' Mana. Everything points to a conflict starting with Iffram, which is the last thing Ragnyll needs. Can you advise?"
>>
>>22371162

Can you think of anyone who would benefit from seeing Both Iffram, Voss, and Ragnyll pulled into a war with each other ?

Right now you must only worry about your own- but look into the hands that started this. This plot wreaks of conspiracy and fighting Iffram is the last thing anyone wants to do.

However, seeing as you are the few who I believe held on to their lives to the very last, I have faith in your strength to prevail. Get back home my children, a war with another monster is no proper welcome for you. "

Command: We triangulated your position, Hellghast Prime, hold out for as long as you can out there. And if you get into a fight- ensure that it is only in [Self Defense] !

Huddled around the radio with the others, he listens.

"Someone who would like to see Iffram, Ragnyll, and Voss bloody one another? Aeon is one that comes to mind quickly. Who else holds ill will to Iffram and holds both Voss and Ragnyll in such contempt?

But... they would not stoop to collaborating with the undead. Neither would even the might of Aeon risk provoking all three at once. "

and why the need to convert religion? religion didn't seem to be all that important in the game, aside from aeon, no other religions even have fluff
>>
>>22376345
Nah, it looks like it's going to be split between those of us who are loyal to Mana, and those of us who are loyal to Ragnyll. Mana's going to try and conquer Iffram (which will require the Ifframi campaign to continue at some point), and we're going to be with Isane/Gunther's Group (possibly lead by Coffee's character, it's unclear),
>>
Bloodied and covered in some strange green goo from what could only be called a monster made entirely out of jell-o, Captain Conrad slowly approaches what appears to be a small group of Ragnyllians occupying a gigantic monster of a tank.

"Ragnyllians! Wait!" he approached the group carefully with his unit, leaving some his men hidden in case of foul play. "Did you also come from the gate? We appeared out of nowhere in this hellish monster infested land. Is there a chain of command?"

>>22376577
"You may wish to wash that off, it is corrosive."
>>
Mana seems serious about what she s selling. Her time in hel I cannot even begin to comprehend ... We should listen to what she'll say. We'll need everything we have to fight the death gods in Voss
>>
"Well this is just dandy." Azure sweeps her binoculars across the land noting various monsters preying on one another.

"Time to find some people who want to go home."
>>
>>22377273
"Well it does sting a lot. If you have some water to spare I could use come. I'm Captain Conrad, unless someone's higher ranked then I here I'm assuming the chain of command."

Seeing the other group as safe, Conrad's men would slowly leave their hiding spot to rejoin with the Helghast unit.

"All I remember is fighting everyone in the god damn world for a few years with a dash of bug monsters and shape-shifting nightmare horrors here and there, and the next thing I know I'm back here, still armed as the second before with my men scattered around here and there."

The man clears his throat, "While you may be a captain, you are not a captain of this unit. The current captain of this unit has authority that would supercede that of a similar rank from outside the unit."

>>22377320
"Her time in Hel is unimpressive. Much of the dead soldiers have likely been there longer, I know I have."
>>
As both Isane and the apparently resurrected Mana bantered back and forth, Gunther was meanwhile deep in the bowels of the train tank trying to repair all the damage it suffered from getting literally thrown out of Hel. Since he was pretty much the only experienced pilot left, the job was up to him to get the job fixed, which was why he left most of the everyday commanding to Isane for the moment.

Still, he hadn't been expecting to get into contact with Ironcommand so soon, much less Mana. While he was glad at first to see his former CO was back in the land of the living, the feeling quickly soured when he overheard her conversations with Ironcommand and Isane over the radio. He thought she was a bit crazy before, but now, she seemed to be on a whole different level. He had no idea what she had been up to in Hel, but he had the ugly feeling that her loyalties didn't lie with Ragnyll anymore.

"Isane, we'll link up with Mana as planned, but you will NOT take any orders from her. I have no intention of handing over command of this unit so readily to someone who's been KIA this long. We'll go and see what her intentions are, but I doubt she's really the same person we knew before Stallion."

>>22377707
Gunther sighed when yet another resurrected Ragnyll approached. They had come across a few scattered groups, though they were mostly lower ranking soldiers. This was the first time he'd seen an actual officer.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, Captain, but I'm still the Major and the CO of this unit here, and you'd have to fight my XO if you really want to get a command position." Gunther sighed. "Look, I have no idea who you are, or what you did in your past life. By all accounts you're technically not even a Ragnyllian soldier. If you want to join up with us, you'll have to be busted down to private. You EARN your rank like everybody else here. If you don't like it, well, you're free to keep wandering this forest on your own."
>>
>>22378889
"I can heard you loud and clear Major, I've been deceased since the third month of the Voss Ragnyll escalation, but I don't need an update on what happened, the steady supply of dead soldiers kept bringing in news from the land of the living. As for command, I'l earn it back trough skill. My expertise would only have been of use to lead a pack of greens, which you obviously are not. Now if only I could find my right hand soldier somewhere, she'd make a fine addition to this crew."

He kept on chatting while washing the slime from most of his clothes and weapons and stripping the extra rank patches from his shoulders, leaving them inside a pocket for safe-keeping.
>>
"Major?" Ralin calls out from where he's counting his blast grenades, "Got a question about supplies.... we're way, way, way, way, deep in a nation nearly 200 years behind the curve right? How are we gonna keep stocked up if we're trying to get extracted and track down Mana at the same time?"
>>

Lass! I'm glad to see you, especially not covered in that acidic green goo the rest of the men are stuck with. These little slime beasts are a pest, but thankfully they aren't the nightmare beasts of Hel. We will be joining the lucky people and join their unit.

He'd reach for the young woman for a hearty embrace, giving her a hug and a few pats on the back before letting her go.

"The big guy in the.....train with a cannon over there's Major Gunther, he's the boss of this unit. So if you want to do introductions it's to him you've got to go."

I would imagine that a Bitank modded for range and damage is comparable. We need bitanks pretty bad. Since They're ARMORED.
>>
>>22384770
Sad that it's our most armored thing...
>>
>>22384662

If you're looking at pure range, you could go Scout Sniper. Maybe even Ironclad Scout sniper for more damage. Either way though you'll probably be tough as paper, and a non-ironclad might have an easier time hiding.

Otherwise Kess is right, a bitank can do a similar job and has better firepower.

That or Bitank sniper with xp upgrades for your usual sniper golem play. The Terra Transport requires you to get in REALLY close. You're better off hammering personal troop strength upgrades (EG: max out your team to 4 people so that you can single handedly man the whole vehicle)

It's also next to impossible to crack open if you use XP to buff it's armor and such. They had been driving for hours since Revenue had spotted a tear opening up while searching for lost vehicless to tow back to camp.
Of course they'ld taken the chance it would lead somewhere that wasn't filled with the lost souls of a million soldiers and Could-have-beens from ages past.
Anything was better than having to spend another hour hoping that whatever you came across next would at least have the decency to consider language a vital concern.
Currently they were following the tracks of some Voss creation that had seemingly appeared out of thin air as well, if they hid their guns well enough they'ld probably end up surviving the first encounter with them...

Haha I'm going Pilot/Bitank. Make one too! That way we have a small squad of hard hitting armor that covers each others backs! Get a convoy going.

Also from what I understand, I can't get xp piloting a Bitank? So its choose between getting experience or using armor pretty much. I'm a pilot though so I don't know if that means I still get experience for doing what I'm supposed to do?

Also apparently we can hijack vehicles?

--
The Bitank hummed to life causing a tired soldier to sigh with relief. Hours of maintenance to get the old girl working, but Clover wasn't surprised. He opened the hatch to get a good look around him and reaffirmed that he had no idea where he was. He remembered was his tank taking a direct hit and exploding, sadly with him in it, but here he was and strangely enough with his Bitank. Before Clover could begin to comprehend the conundrum of machines and whether they have souls or not, the radio crackled to life.

Apparently a high-ranking Ragnyll officer was organizing troops around the area and besides some squabbling seemed just as confused as he was. He didn't recognize any of the names, but some direction to get back home was good as any. he clicked the receiver on.

"Hey there Major, mighty good to be hearing a voice out here. If you don't mind me bringing a nice metal lady with long legs, Pvt. Clover and Bitank "Lucky Shot" are ready for duty."
>>
>>22389232

No, that's not true. When you're an Ace pilot you get XP. Basically your bitank upgrades aren't going to apply to say, a Gryphon if you change vehicles.

Hijacking can happen yes. But don't rely on it unless you have a way to kill the crew and stay alive yourself.

>>
>>22396921
I can mess around with it, with permission of the CO. He may not want me tinkering with something that can kill us all.

Like Mordheim, got it. So, every person in my unit, if the card shows 1 and a half heart, has 1.5 hp, correct?

So, should I go back up and start reading what this warroom is about or would you like to give me a synopsis?

>"A keen eye, are you sure you were not meant to be a scout?
"I prefer to be more proactive in my scouting sir" He hefts his grenade launcher and flips a flare in the other hand.

"I'll leave the plannin' to the major, but for his tank, we could always park it on the opposite site of the biTank, set up a heavy team up near the Windmill to lock down that entrance. Put Mobile Arts like myself at the other corners so we can put up a flare depending on if we're approached from other directions. Put another heavy in that house on E, cover that entrance really well... We can set up some mines too around the place if we have time to prepare, but I doubt the towns people would let us."

He sighs, rubbing his head, "At least this place shouldn't be too hard to defend, unless we got flying monsters coming in."

Okay, a few years back, the nation of Voss invaded the nation of Ragnyll. Bad things happened. It was for the magical substance of Ibonyte which not only powers magic, but also, through TESLAPUNK technology, can be used to make any other substance in reality.

This war ended in victory for Ragnyll, but alot of Ibonyte was stolen, and it set the flames for a new world war.

A bunch of Ragnyllian soldiers deserted, becoming the black deserters. They invaded the magical nation of Iffram, and set up a undead plague to run interference for their actual purpose, ripping open a portal to the realms of the dead (using the unique spatial qualities of Iffram, eg: Fucked to hell and back to make the astral plane look positively easy to navigate), and call back all of Ragnyll's veteran dead to serve in the upcoming world war.

They called back a crazed undead former Major and CO of the Hellghast unit (our unit), named Mana, she was conquering the underworld, and has now decided to conquer the rest of the world, specifically by first conquering Iffram and steeling the sword Excalibur from Queen Arthur.

We've been called to rendevou at the city of Ashleaf for extraction by Ragnyll to return to prepare for the big war. Mana has gone AWOL to persue her own plans.

That is where we are.

I am reading the backstory and the story so far...Noone is good in Iron Hearts...So, what are we, Cloven?
>>
>>22397556

I mean morally good...also, have some tripcodes.
>>
>>22397594
We're Ragnyll, not Clovis.
>>
"Sorry we're late, got lost on the way"
>>
>>22397674

Ok, what can I be? Everything from the Ragnyll troops?
>>
>>22397731
yep, anything from the ragnyll sheets. Bar armory options for infantry, and mod options for armor (only base infantry and vehicles).

We could use some more bitanks also, bitanks are pretty bitchin' or a Terra Transport, not sure if we have one of those, octopeds can be useful against all infantry forever, which we'll probably be fighting for the most part.

Otherwise, we're missing scouts and assault troops, and ace pilots, but be warned, ace pilot is a tricky thing to take, cause if your vehicle is destroyed, then you can't get a new one.
>>
Actually I want to change to Scout Snipers
"Sorry I'm late, got lost on the way"
>>
>>22397820

Can I fly a ducky, or do I need to be a pilot?

Did someone in here create the game and the drawings?? Respect dude or dudette...
>>
Okay... I think we have something like...
2 Mobile Artillery
2 Assault Teams
2 Heavy Teams (Machine gunners)
1 Scout
2 Investigators
1 caster
1(2?) Bitank
1 Rigcycle
(1?) Terra Transport?

>>22397951
You could, and Ace Pilot isn't necessary, but it means that you won't die if you're shot down, and you'll get bonuses to a lot of stuff. Also Iffram, the nation we're in filled with people who think we're invading and making people undead, have a class called Storm Mages, so if we run into them, you're taking your life into your own hands.

Monday makes the art work. He is indeed awesome.
>>
>>22397999
we also won't know the final numbers until roll call right before the mission, so keep this window open and on auto update. We begin at 8:30pm eastern time.

"Is this snow? Please tell me it's snow as opposed to our intelligence giving us aerial photos in monochrome."
>>
>>22397999

Ok I 'll have the ducky then!!! What's the AP and do we do our own rolls?
>>
>>22398017
Hey, still have room for one more?
>>
>>22398120
as far as I can tell there's no upper limit on the number of people? I'm not actually sure on how that works on Ragnyll, I came in during Iffram where there WAS no limit, but we might have a pop cap of some kind...

Anybody able to clarify that? I know flags allow reinforcements to come in, but not much beyond that.
>>
>>22398099
Also, you want to write your trip as
[P-D] for Ace Pilot - Ducky I think
>>
>>22398138
Sounds like a pretty intense back story. So in preparation for a world war we invaded another nation to make an army of zombies and are now falling back to regroup before the real war starts?
>>
>>22398228
No, somebody ELSE did. We weren't involved. I'm not sure what the Hellgast unit was doing in Iffram, but we weren't linked to the Black Deserters, who are "Loyal" traitors to Iffram.

Also I was wrong about the war with Voss, it's still raging.

And Knorck, you definitely want Ace Pilot with Ducky, you get access to special turning mechanics that'll make your life easier (like turning 180 degrees in a single turn)
>>
>>22398278
So who are we fighting tonight?
Also a couple years ago I tried this but didn't make it past my first session. I believe I was Voss, they had a bit of a black theme to them.
>>
>>22398362
We might be fighting zombie leftovers in a cosy little medieval fantasy town that will need our help. That and a possible few rogue military units.
>>
>>22398204

Oh shit, that's what I asked, if I needed to be an ace pilot for flying a ducky, but you said I don't need to be a pilot. Now if I die I won't be able to play...

>>22398017
8:30 eastern? Right now it's 12:41 midnight where I am. Can you clarify the time?

>>22398099
Can somebody answer these 2 questions? Does AP mean Ace Pilot then? And there is a symbol like a lever times two (symbol-like-lever x2), what is that?
>>
>>22398395
It is 5h45 Est here so in a good 3-4h should be start time.
>>
>>22398278

Oh, I think I get it now. An ace pilot cannot use the smoke gun unless he/she drives a Stork though...Combined with the 1 action of the pilot, do I get 4 actions in total?
>>
>>22398395
Um... I... think so? Can somebody clarrify?

I think you can use the smoke gun, you just can't use the 180 degree turn ability.
>>
>>22398447
>>22398484
Pilot class just gives you +1 to rolls, and an ejection seat. Not very hard to understand.

In the case of the Duckies being a pilot gives you the ability to do a 180 degree turn.
>>
>>22398506
Ok, and do you know if there's a player limit?
>>
>>22398506

Ok, I pick an assault unit then. Hope I won't be too sleepy when battle breaks out.
>>
Okay, I mixed up the restrictions a bit here.

You actually are allowed to start off with a vehicle. HOWEVER, if you lose it, you won't be getting it back, at least not for a while, so make your choice wisely.

>>22398099
As for AP, that refers to the damage type of the bomb as Armor Piercing.
>>
>>22398652

And I 've two of 'em right??Woohoo!!
What's a 180 degree turn?? Can't you just face south if you were heading north? Can I be just Ducky, or do I have to deploy a pilot for this?
>>
>>22398723
For fuck's sake, you're taking a vehicle, just be a damn pilot. Your tag would look like [P-D].
>>
>>22398723
You have to have a stated class, but don't HAVE to be a pilot to fly a Ducky, but if you're going to be fighting in vehicles for any extended period of time, I highly suggest you roll a Pilot class anyways, since it actually gives you benefits to piloting vehicles. There's no reason not to.
>>
>>22398786
>>22398801

Ok,ok.
>>
>>22398870
Just enjoy having a state of the art bad-ass airplane :) Go with what you want, that's the only thing you need to know. Everyone here played and died many times, the key is to play something fun, and have fun. If you crash your Duckie too bad, but there's like 16 classes to chose from ^^

Run down of EXP for the newbies

You are from Ragnyll, you can advance in experience REALLY freaking quickly.

For 10 exp, you can give +1 to any quantitative stat. Some of these are linked to your character (HP, Actions, Move, Jump, Sight, etc.etc.). Others are linked to class abilities, or to weapons (things like ammo, hit ratings, damage, etc.). When you change classes (which you can do between games and at flags), things linked to your character transfer, things linked to class abilities and weapons do not.

You can advance you stats a total of 6 times. This goes for weapons and classes, specifically infantry abilities.

Ontop of this, you can buy an Aspect. Aspects are linked to specific classes. You can only buy this once. If you change classes, then your bought aspect changes with you. To buy an aspect, you must play one entire battle through as that class. It costs 20 xp to buy an aspect.

You may upgrade your aspect 3 times. Each of these upgrades costs 10 xp, and they must be QUALITATIVE upgrades, not QUANTITATIVE. EG: You can't have it be a +1 Act, but you can have it be that "You may act on the opponents turn" or something.

Finally, you have 6 upgrades for VEHICLES you can spend on. You must actually have earned the exp while inside that vehicle to spend it on that vehicle. XP earned this way can be spent on either yourself, or the vehicle. These upgrades cost +10xp. (I am unsure about this one, it might be that these are just lumped in with the 6 upgrades you can buy for yourself, thus you only have 6 upgrades, not 6 infantry upgrades and 6 armor upgrades).

When you die. Any unspent exp is cut in half, you spend this on your next character, it may not be given to anyone else. You may redeploy immediately.

>>22399157
Remember we're in a medieval nation. That's likely a well.
>>
>>22399263

>>22397999
Am I the only Bitank at the moment? Who was the other guy, since it might be good to know for coordination purposes

>>22397330
Clover adjusted his radio before flicking it on, the hum of the Bitank engine unfortunately causing him to yell to be heard. "Damn son, forget scout, seems like you got the smarts of a CO!"

>>22396629
"That seems as good a plan as any for me and I don't mind if I need to babysit a gorgeous tank such as the Majors. Just will need time to get into place of course. What are the orders for how we should respond to any approaching targets? I know we don't want to start a war here, but armors tend to rank high on the "Kill" checklist and I rather not get blown up again."
>>
>>22399398
>Clover adjusted his radio before flicking it on, the hum of the Bitank engine unfortunately causing him to yell to be heard. "Damn son, forget scout, seems like you got the smarts of a CO!"
"All my plans assume we're not going to have to -take- the place... which I hope we won't... and maybe we won't need to at all, maybe I'm just being paranoid. Taking the place though... we'll need to go in through the back, hit from the north west. Hitting from the east, or god forbid, the south, is going to be a lot harder."
>>
>>22399467
"And yeah, I just got ideas. The CO and XO are the guys with the brains and the plans, and probably way better than mine."
>>
>>22399430
"It is my assumption that the town is clear, as that is where Major Lanistas's transmission was triangulated to. We are supposed to be meeting others here after all."

>>22399398
"Those orders are up to the CO or XO."
>>
>>22399284

Got it. In flying it's pilot officer. So it's clear that you can't just handle a vehicle without a pilot, right?
>>
>>22399430
Clover laughed "Better to be paranoid than dead I think."

>>22399491

"Look here people, let's not get carried away by a fancy little town map. Most of you have been fighting eachother and whoever else for the past weeks, months and years in a constant day to day basis. First thing first, eat and drink, then catch a nap before deployment time, let's enjoy some of the stuff we didn't have the time to do before."

Conrad kept talking as he'd be visibly eating some of the green goo one slime monster left on his sleeve, raising an eyebrow at the taste.

"Call me stupid, but this tastes a lot like then awfl jelly deserts my grandma used to make. Except worst, and it's fizzy in my mouth. Anyway, as I was saying, all you other privates, stop pulling your hair out for one little town. What's the worst thing that can happen? Death and a trip back to never-ending warfare. That's honestly /not that bad/." he'd grin, finishing his snack with a ration of bread and a swig of water.
>>
>>22399640

It's the 'Strafe' attack below it, and you have 2 MGs Left and Right.

>>22399664

Allows for us to potentially listen in on enemy communications. Obviously dependent on fighting an enemy that uses radios. Great against Voss, not so much against undead, for example.
>>
>>22399664
Pretty much you spend an action to attempt a radio intercept. Depending on how successful you are, you can listen in on the enemy's comms and figure out what they're planning, or even hijack their comms completely and give them false orders.
>>
>>22399230
Shit, I should probably do this too.

>>
>>22399764

Since this game is roll under, does that eman we have to roll for the damage done also, if the attack is syccessful?
>>
>>22399858

No, damage is set. Of course, there are many possible mitigating factors for damage dealt, including damage types versus armored HP, Damage Reduction stats, etc. Just make sure you're using explosives against tanks, or other armor-penetrating weapons. Or otherwise just the appropriate weapon for the situation.
>>
>>22399858

We don't know what the situation in the town is yet. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

"It is a question of if we'll be holding up here for a time. You can always leave me to my experiments though."

From the desk of Command...
To CO:
While I finish this map; specify security details to me. You can place yourselves anywhere to hold a meeting with Mana. Any interior that is visible is a safe spot that can be used. My suggestion: use teams

Alright, here's how the deployment is going to go.

Isane, you'll set up in the central building. That way you MG can cover any of the entry points. Clyde, you'll cover the northern entrance. [RC1] and [C1] will also start in the northern square. You'll be north team.

[V2] will cover the east entrance, with [M2], [Hm2], and [A1] in the surrounding buildings. You'll be East Team.

[Bt1], [M3], [I1] will cover the west entrance, you'll be West team.

[S1] will be deployed in the windmill outside the town and [S2] will be deployed in the highest building on the southern end of the town. You both can engage targets at will.

[T1] will be stationed to the S of the town as a reserve in case one of the entrances begins to crumble. My own Heavy Tank will be deployed outside the town to the west.

For now. The action usually heats up pretty fast, though.

You can even just spend the time tunneling underground to get into a good position.

"Rolling out boys, ye-haw!"
>>
>>22404468
"The top of the windmill. The well will work if it is clear. Otherwise, any spot far enough from another array."
