You are a Magical Girl, and you're not too sure what's happening at the moment. You thought you were sure, of course, but that was before THINGS started happening, and OTHER THINGS started happening right after.

To cut to the chase, you are now standing in the middle of your father's ramen restaurant, with a talking mutant cat sitting where he should be sitting, and two people who you are pretty sure are both the same person and yet not are talking about STUFF behind you. STUFF that seems to involve the best way to manufacture white phosporous grenades in the comfort of your own home, or the applicable use of incendiary thermite in a social situation.

It needs to be said, of course, that you are in a Witch's Barrier, the nightmarish realm that tore and bled into reality whenever a Magical Girl went afoul of the terms of her contract. Strange things happen inside one, that much you remember from your training, and stranger things happen to the Magical Girls that step voluntary into said barrier for some fool's errand (such as saving their boss and unrequited crush, nonsense like that).

You've certainly heard some stories about the things that happen to Magical Girls inside barriers. Some go insane, others...change, coming back completely different yet completely none the wiser, as if they'd been like that all along. Very few come back the way they came in.

Some never came back at all, but that's not really unexpected, in a sad depressing way.
>>
In any case, the mutant cat - which is, funnily enough, wearing a mutant cat-sized version of the shirt that your father wore all the time, I AM BOSS emblazoned on the front in large letters - just asked you if there was anything wrong. If you had a problem with the current situation (which, of course, you do, but you're not quite sure how to put it just yet). It's tilting its head to the side, in that very catlike way.

...Heh, the shirt's even got that rip in the collar, to the left.

"Well, Hanegawa? Is there anything you'd want to ask?"

How do you respond?

Guys! GUYS! GUUYS! I HAVE THE CRAZIEST PLAN EVER TO SAVE FUCKING EVERYONE

First off, we contact Souji/Misaka and ask about Madoka`s Location ("The giant Witch signature sou felt near me sometime ago, where is it now?!")

Then we sent Murderface with Moemura to defend/look after the injured Pinky, after explaining Murderface that the pink-haired girl is our Ally for now and she can trust her for now and she should keep Moemura and Madoka safe.

Meanwhole Midori goes to meet Timetravlerhomu/Ribbonhomu who may or may not try to kill us but who will obviously reconsider if we tell her that we know where Madoka (Pinky) is. In case it doesn`t poke Ribbonhomu`s interest we bluff like a motherfucker and tell her that we don`t actually mean Pinky, but the girl Madoka("Pinky`s past self that she seems to hate for being weak") and that she is also in this barrier.
This will bait her like an underage thaiprostitue baits american tourists but we will tell her that we will only reveal the location to her if she helps us to find Mirai.

Tl;dr:

1. Check Pinkys Location
2. Send Murderface & Moemura to protect the injured/weakened Madoka
3. Locate Ribbonhomu
4. Talk her down via BLUFFSKILL
5. Bait her with Infos/Location about Pinky and coerce her into helping you find Mirai.
6. Should Step 5 not work, bait her with Infos/Location of True Madoka and coerce her into helping you find Mirai.
7. Rescue Wakaba Mirai
8. ???
9. Happy End.

Remember guys we are a Callidus-Meguca, that means we have to be sly instead of running into things without thinking and right now we have enough Infos to talk Ribbonhomu down and recruit her for just enough time to save Mirai.

So why not try it with a Xanatos-Gambit?
>>

>>

Oh yea, thinking about that.

>"N-no. I don't remember. I...came in here. After killing a pink-haired girl. She tried to rip my heart out." She touches her own chest, fingers fanning across the bloody material of her costume, concern creasing her features before smoothening out in a tired, but triumphant smile. "...Heh. Still there."

Remember that she didn't say what the pink haired girl was WEARING

The point is that I don't think the pink haired girl that Murderface is talking about is Pinky.

Its Godoka.
>>
>Kharn is with us in the barrier
I don't remember that happening. Was she what we saw as IBRS?

>>22486108
Remember who we sent there. We have absolutely no need to find her here.
>>
>>22486182
Not as far as we know, but Souji radioed us to tell us she's loose.
>>
>>22486182
>>22486188

>>
>>22486128
We are on a time limit to finding Mirai. This is likely to take too long to find her.
Also, becoming separated from the two Homura's we have could have dire consequences when they're no longer near a grounded and real person like us.
>>
>>22486173
Weren't there two Godokas? One being the one that constantly harrasses Chiaki, which would be Godoka Actual, or Pinky, the other being the one Chiaki saw when going into the Secret Chamber, which is Faust.

Murderface killed Faust and escaped post-Meduca Homura. Pinky fought IBRS and we have Moemura with us. That accounts for three Homus. What happened to the fourth?
>>
>>22486219

There is only one Godoka and she's Faust too.

She has a bit of a problem keeping her personality coherent.

I guess that's part of being insane.

"I didn't catch their names," Kyuubey says after a moment, tilting his head the other way, the long secondary ears drooping out of his primary ears shifting with the movement. "But they were quite the characters. One of them was dressed rather...lightly. Too much skin showing. Very big hair, though, looks like someone's been spending their savings on perms. The other was in this black biker outfit, chains and spikes and a skull on their helmet. Didn't even take the thing off when she stepped in." A sigh. "That's young people for you, no manners at all."

..Wait. Permed hair? Lightly dressed? That...that sounds like someone you know. Mirai. Wakaba Mirai, right? That means she's somewhere around here? And you've just missed her?

"Yes, by a couple of moments. She practically stepped out along with the other girl, and then you came in along with those two." Kyuubey blinks. "More like dragged out in any case, the other one sounded like she really needed to be somewhere. They did say they'll be back any moment now."

Huh. Well. That's...strange, but you'll play along.

It's good news, at least. If Mirai is around - wherever she was - that meant that she hadn't witched out completely. Maybe there was a chance you could bring her back. Yes. That means Chiaki should be okay, too, right? Even with her in four different pieces, there should be a chance for you to save them both, right?

You ignore the niggling thought at the back of your mind; that traitorous thought that reminded you about what Madoka had said, earlier. About this being someone's barrier.

You continue to ignore the other thought that snidely reminded you that you had wished there and then that the barrier belonged to your best friend, not the girl who would never really love you.

Remember also that Godoka/Faust has no problem being multiple places at once. During the Iori mission, while Chiaki was caught in the illusion, she experienced Pinky breaking her free as getting shot in the head.

Simultaneously, Midori experienced that as Pinky touching her in the forehead and tearing her illusion apart like wet tissue paper.

The other girl, though...was that the Malal person you've heard Kharn and Chiaki talk about? From Kyuubey's description, it sounds like a Culexus. You've never really encountered one when you were in Jyuubey's employ.

"It does sound like her," Chiaki replies from behind you, and you turn to see Homura fussing over your boss - the bespectacled girl doing her best to wipe off the dried blood on her other self's face with a purple handkerchief. "That's Malal. She'd be able to tell us Something Important." A moment's hesitation makes her pause. "I'm not sure what, but we should keep in mind to ask her."

"S-stop fidgeting, I've nearly got it..." Homura murmurs. "That's...that's a huge cut, doesn't it hurt?"

"Nothing I'm not used to," Your amnesiac boss replies, almost cheerfully.

"The three of you should probably stay here for a while. It'll be raining soon, and you don't want to be outwhen it does." Kyuubey says, now studiously licking the back of his paw. "You can set off and do what you're supposed to do when it stops pouring."

As if on cue, thunder suddenly roils from above, followed by the rumble of a million raindrops crashing into the ground at once, followed by millions more. Hammering on the tiled ceiling of the restaurant.

You nod at this, glancing out of the restaurant's exit. Kyuubey wasn't kidding about the rain - it's falling down hard and fast enough that you can't see the neon sign of Charles' Bar across the street.

You have a question for Kyuubey, though, and you manage to ask him without your voice shaking too much. It takes him a moment to respond.

[2/3]
>>
>>22486388

"..Damned if I know, really." The mutant cat replies, in a voice much too calm to voice confusion, considering current circumstances. "I'm not real, that much I know." He nods towards the two Homuras. "I don't think this shop is supposed to be here, either. Still..." Kyuubey blinks, before turning his head to look up at you, crimson eyes staring directly at yours. "You did have your Soul Gem attuned to hers, right? Maybe something happened. Maybe your memories are starting to bleed into hers. Maybe not." He shrugs. "Anything can happen in a Barrier, that's what makes them so dangerous."

That...that didn't really explain anything.

"Frustrating, isn't it?" You could almost hear the smugness in its voice. "Well, anyway. Do you want to stay here and wait for a while? I'll have some ramen on the boil for you girls if you are." He nods towards the restaurant's exit. "If you want to set off right now, though, you should probably check out the Deli Heal Agency. Heard the girl with the helmet talking about it. Again, I'll recommend you don't. Things come out when it's raining."

What do you do?

Well, no use to thiking about what exactly Pinky is right now since we know it anyway.

And by that I mean:

All the events here are obviously post-ending.
But instead of Akemi Homura accepting what Madoka told her she turned back the time once more after Madoka made her wish what witches never existed in the first place.
I you remember the Meguca Madoka ending the wish itself was kind of a paradox since the wishes feed on the girls karma. Madoka`s wish was pwoerful enough to fade all witches from all dimensions out of existance yet to balance the scale off this positive wish she briefly turns into this huge witch before her wish actually overrides what with "No witches exist".

Homura`s last timejump somehow fucked that up horribly what basically means that what we have to deal with is something that is neither witch nor world`s most Powerful Magical Girl with god`s powers. Or it is something inbetween.

Actually the encounter in the elevator indicates that this.. megucagodwitch is split in two with Pinky being her.. uh.. "good & sane half" and the other thing being the Gigawitch.
>>
>>22486399

Madoka told us that IBRS was hunting us and the Homus down, and we should find shelter and hide.

Coobie says the barrier gets even weirder and more dangerous when it starts to rain and we can't even see across the street anymore.

As much as I want to rush over to Deli Heal right now, we should probably stay put.

Maybe get in contact with Otacon right now and see if he has any other readings near to us and to get tracking on them.

>>
>>22486445
Well obviously we'd fill them in about Madoka first. It's cool.

This Murderface is cool.

>>22486451
There's still no indicator there was actually a split. I'm reasonably certain that Pinky is the only Madoka and she's just very, very messed up right now, what with suddenly becoming an omnigod then having Homura try to impossibly undo that.
>>
>>22486472
There are two more, possibly cute, drenched, and unconscious Homuhomu out there.

Also if Chiaki dies Midori dies with her due to soul gem attunement, supposedly. If Homuhomu lives she gets to be with Chiaki for longer. But reasoning is hardly reasonable for someone lovestruck.
>>
>>22486466
Also, keep in mind Mirai is on a time limit. We might not have time to wait out the rain before her Shadow eats her or something.

>>
This is reminding me more and more of Silent Hill.
>>
>>22486451

You know, the more I re-read that elevator scene, the more I think there was something seriously off about it.

For one, stuff was happening while Pinky was there, like the elevator running, when everything should have been frozen in time. Then there was the whole Kali-MA thing without actually dying.

The first time Pinky tore her hear out, HomuChiaki nearly died and was out of commission for over a week. Then the elevator scene she's fine not even thirty minutes later?

Something's really weird about that scene.
>>
Some things, like the reintegration of two parts of your personality, should be done in private. Let Moemura and Murderface catch up and let them meld into one another via talking over ramen, while we go and see if we can't get the other lot.
>>
>>22486512
I figured it wasn't a literal heart-tearing that time, more of a psyche-overload from being near BrNight.

Well, judging from what the letters said. It does seem that Homura lived in Madoka's world for a while until guilt about how her mission to protect Madoka ended in failure caught up with her and she resolved to bring Madoka back by any means. Even if it meant shattering her new world and bringing witchdom back.

>>22486399

This is a tricky situation. Trying too hard to save everyone could lead to a DEAD END.

Not to mention that the reason why our Black Rock shooter friend doesn't just charge us is that because it doesn't want to harm the Homura's. I think its because our BRS friend is proto-Homulilly

Ask if Muderface has any weapons, and don't forget we can summon Tiny Pete (Moemura can ride in him). If we seriously want to go out in the rain.

I actually meant that as a joke, but...

Think about Yuma. In this timeline her wish ended up with her becoming an antimagical girl. So, just because we know some canon wishes doesn't mean they'll apply, or that the girl will end up as we know her.

She could be. I'm not saying she is, but maybe? Malal is a techie sort and when we asked Coobie to check for "Akemi Homura" he couldn't find anything. Odds that she simply erased all traces of herself?

Also, the first thing that Malal wanted to name Girl A was "Akemi..."

Alright. You'll...you'll stay here, for now. In this weird, Witch-borne representation of your father's ramen joint. With a talking mutant cat wearing his shirt standing in for him, and with two personifications of your sempai's broken psyche, one of them now teaching the other how to field-strip an AK-47.

"No, no, this goes here. That thing goes there. ...Maybe I should've started with nuggets first."

"Nuggets...?"

"Nevermind. And that's a magazine, see, that's not a clip. Don't call it that, or people will get angry."

"O-okay."

You tell the mutant cat your decision, and he nods sagely, as if he'd been expecting it all along. "Very good. I'll have three bowls up in a little bit. Seafood ramen for the both of them, and miso ramen for you? No vegetables, extra meat, just how you like it?"

You pause at this. That was, indeed, how you liked it.

"You're not my real father," You say suddenly, without even thinking it. Kyuubey blinks at you, before nodding.

"No, of course not. Your real father loves you very much, though." A moment. "And he wishes that you'd work out a bit. You're getting soft around the middle. Are you lifting three times a week, like he made you promise before you left? Weight training is important for a young woman's growth, you know."

...Goddamn bastard cat.

"Ah, here we are." Kyuubey nods as a tray of three ramen bowls, each one steaming hot, seems to materialize out of nowhere in front of him. The scent tickles your nostrils, reminding you of home. "Does a body good to have a hot meal inside it in this kind of weather. Be a dear and take these to your friends, there's a good girl."

You nod, still a bit stunned at this turn of events, and make your way towards the table that Chiaki and Homura seem to have settled into. Homura seems to be admiring the now-assembled AK-47 in her hands, turning it this way and that.

"You can have it if you want." You hear Chiaki say, with a smile in her voice that you might never hear from your actual sempai. "I have spares. Lots of them."

"I-if it's not too much, then...!" Homura replies in an awed, breathy sort of way. It's then that they notice your arrival, and the girl with the pigtails hastily moves the rifle from the tabletop, cheeks reddening as she rushes to help you.

"Having fun?" You ask them, working up a smile you're having trouble feeling.

"Y-yes!" Homura says happily as she helps pass out the chopsticks. "Chiaki-san is teaching me all about firearms, a-and..." It's then that she falls silent, face screwing up slightly in hesitation. "Well, um...i-isn't it unfair if I freeze someone in time and then shoot their soul gem out?" She turns to you as you sit beside Chiaki, your boss moving with a grunt to give you space, a chuckle escaping her lips. "Isn't it, Midori-san?"

"It's not an issue of whether it's fair or not, if someone's trying to kill you." Chiaki interjects here, before you can respond. "Better you than them, in my opinion."

How do you respond? Seems that you can chat for a bit while you wait for Mirai and Malal to come back, and the rain to stop.
>>

Explain awkwardly that shooting their legs off first is much better.

Yesterday's enemy might be today's friend and all that.

"It's not about what's fair or not. Sometimes you have something, or more importantly someone, that you have to protect. And sometimes you have to do unfair nasty things to keep them safe.

Fighting and killing is never fair or nice, you should avoid it if possible, try to make friends with people try to circumvent your enemies, go around them, turn them into your friends, show them you're not so different and are on the same side.

But if you have to fight, if you don't have any other choices, be ruthless, be quick, be deadly. It's the only way to be sure you can protect the ones you care about."

I wonder if there is a jukebox here. With the 4 latest hit songs.

1. The final hope "I wish to redo my meeting with Kaname so I can be the one to protect her!"
2. The deepest despair "If soul gems turn us into witches! Then we have no choice but to die!
3. The eternal request "Stop me from being tricked by Kyubey
4. That way madness lies (Moemura's scream followed by a gunshot)
>>
"It depends on whether you want to surely and permanently kill the other Puella. Other wounds can be healed or otherwise recovered from. So, basically... If you want somebody dead without a chance to fight back, then that's the best option. Sometimes its better to take prisoners or only wound, though."
>>

But if someone seems to hesitate or not want to fight then disabling them would be a good option

Midori's not feeling too well about her chances with Chiaki right?

So she probably wants to do something or make something special for her, preferrably when they get out safely.

What does she know Chiaki likes? Whiskey and pancakes. And she can make decent pancakes.

So the outcome is obvious.

Whiskey infused Pancakes.

And it will be a surprise.

You blink at Homura, the girl's face open and innocent and seemingly waiting on bated breath for your answer. You want to sigh in exasperation at the matter at hand, but then again - it's just like her, isn't it? Brutally direct, to the point, showing no consideration at all to the usual finery and rituals that you've seen the Pleiades Saints perform whenever fighting another Magical Girl. There'd be declarations of titles, of oathes, of sweeping and elegant salutes and all that. Always respectful and graceful pugilism, never direct and brutal murder.

You look down at your ramen bowl, at the mass of noodles and meat and pork fat swimming in miso broth - before clearing your throat. Managing to mumble someting about how...how it's better to shoot someone's legs off, first, rather than going for the kill right away. Yesterday's enemy might be today's friend, and...and all that.

The reactions you get from both girls are truly striking, a testament to how different they are from each other, despite being the same person. Homura, paling, seems to shrink back from you. "B-but that's cruel! A-and it sounds like it'd hurt a lot!"

Chiaki, on the other hand, grins, leaning closer to you. "I like it. It's not as cool, but it's got style to it." She nods at Homura, who is busy looking quite horrified. "Yeah, do that instead. The second bit's good, too." The grin fades into a rather sad smile. "You can't have too many friends. I wish I figured that out before..." She waves a hand at herself vaguely.

"Before?" You can't help but ask.

"Before I screwed up." Chiaki murmurs. "Before I screwed everything up."

An awkward silence follows, one that's broken by your boss herself.

"Let's eat up before it gets cold, yeah?"

Yeah. You nod in agreement, and Homura does as well.

Both of them murmuring thanks for the meal, all three of you start to tuck into the ramen, one made by the mutant cat who seems to be your father but not really.

>>
>>22487272

...Huh. Well, that's a wonder. The ramen, despite its decidedly strange origins, tastes exactly like how it should. The meat's tender, the noodles are firm, and the broth's crisp and hot and bracing. Not witchy at all.

"Ramen is ramen," Kyuubey says from his plac behind the counter. "No matter where you are, ramen will taste exactly like you remember it."

That's something your father says, too.

God damn, this is a strange Barrier.

You've got some time to kill yet, Mirai and Malal hasn't returned. Both Homura and Chiaki are busy slurping up noodles.

Murder Mayumi suffers a terrible injury during a fight, and goes into a coma. After a month, she wakes up and has an entirely different personality, being very shy, bashful, and clumsy. While Miracle Midori won't admit that she likes this incarnation of Mayumi quite a bit, she resolves to get down to the bottom of things and starts investigating.

As Midori sleuths, she finds damaged records that tell of people matching Mayumi's description from over a hundred years ago, with all of them disappearing after a set amount of time. There are also cryptic clues scattered throughout random places, each of them written by a different Mayumi. When read as a whole, these clues insinuate that a powerful entity has been maintaining a careful cycle of Mayumi protecting a certain green-haired girl.

But just as she's about to recover the last piece of the puzzle, she's ambushed by a mysterious, malevolent entity intent on letting these secrets lie.

But by all the signs that Chiaki saw, she was regarded as a celebrity amongst the Officio. Midori's manga probably had a lot do to with that, but it probably wouldn't rescue her from universal revile amongst all of the megucas.
>>
>>22487813
She wasn't actually reviled though
Most the girls kept their distance because she is so prickly, Sayaka hates her, beartiger admires her because she survived training under her

Outside she is somewhat of a dark legend among the meguca and sort of a folk hero to the downtrodden ones if Midori is anything to go by

The manga helped her popularity by making all the girls think that maybe that was real

I think most Megucas saw her less as a person and more of a force of nature, like a violent hurricane with guns. You can admire it from afar, but there is no way in hell you are getting close to it and if it's coming your way you run like fuck or try to kill it before it kills you.

You let the two continue to eat in silence and gusto - not that you could have done anything about it. It's the first time you've seen your sempai eat anything other than pancakes with such relish, and you can't help but stare. Homura's eating a bit more carefully and peckishly, but even you can notice how her cheeks are flushing with the kind of pleasure you get from eating good, tasty food. Food that warms not just the stomach, but the heart and the spirit.

...It'd be worth it, wouldn't it? Waking up early in the morning every day to make her breakfast, despite being the worst at mornings. Just to see her eat something you yourself made, with your own hands. It'd be quite nice, to see her smile like that. Maybe, just maybe...

You shake your head. N-no, now's not the time for any of that. You need to focus.

Closing your eyes, you try to reach out to Madoka again. You're not too sure how it works, but...maybe thinking about the girl as hard as you can would work? It seemed to work the last time, anyway, when you were replying.

The reply you get is soft, muffled, and...not really Madoka at all. Or maybe it is, you're not too sure.

It's not a spoken message, for one. It's a memory, one tinted in red. As if the vision itself was being seen through eyes filmed with blood.

A tall, slender figure, long black hair trailing behind it, grasping a massive, golden double-bladed chainaxe in one clawed fist. The other is held out towards the viewer, in what seems like an offer for help.

"T-thank you." You hear Madoka breathe out in a strangled, broken whisper. "I knew you'd come save me."

"Of course." The figure comes into closer view, her face now visible. Not as if you wouldn't recognize the voice anywhere.

Valnikov Kharn's smile is at both kind and terrible at once, her sunless eyes pinned crimson boring into yours.

"I am at my Blessed Lady's service."

It's with a start - like the jolt you'd get when you dreamt about falling flat on your back - that you are suddenly snapped back into the real, waking world. Well, as real as a Witch's Barrier, anyway. A numbing cold stealing any and all warmth afforded by the familiarity of the restaurant and the ramen you've eaten only moments before.

Kharn? Miss Valnikov's with Madoka?

"Oi." Chiaki says, and you feel her nudge you with an elbow. "You alright? You looked like you fell asleep there for a moment." A grin. "You shouldn't sleep in a Witch Barrier, you know. There's a chance you might not wake up."

That's...yes, you'll remember that.

"Are you alright, Midori-san?" Homura asks, concern clear in her features. "Chiaki-san is right, you shouldn't--"

Her words are cut off by someone entering the restaurant, coming in out of the rain.

Two someones, in fact.

One of them wearing a Culexus suit, the way you'd heard it described.

The other being your best friend, Wakaba Mirai, in her Magical Girl costume. Sopping wet, the both of them. Dripping with rainwater, and something else besides. The tang of blood coming from them both, and you could see small cuts in Mirai's arms and rents in the Culexus' armor.

"No good," The Culexus grunts. "Can't get through to her. She's far too gone this time." A weary sigh tears its way from her skulled helmet's vox speakers. "Stupid child."

"We should make another attempt when the rain subsides," Mirai says, in that slow, composed diction that you had always considered polite and elegant. She carefully wrings water from her thick, matted hair, the once bright-crimson tresses now darkened ichor. "The rain seems to have an effect on her mental state. If we try again when the weather's clear, maybe she'll be able to listen."

You very nearly duck as she glances around the restaurant - and the moment your eyes meet is the moment your breath catches in your throat.

"...Midori-chan...?" Her eyes widen in complete surprise. "I...w-what are you doing here?"

You couldn't help yourself. Even though you made a promise that you'd always try to look and act professional in front of your sempai. Even though you promised yourself that you wouldn't get carried away anymore, not with her around at least.

You barely hear Mirai calling your name as you all but tackle her into a hug, hugging her as tightly as you can, hugging her with all the strength your tired, sore body could muster. Admittedly, it isn't much, but you're much too relieved to care. You don't even realize you're already crying - only that you're much too busy telling her, over and over again, how relieved you are that she's okay.

It's only after a few moments that you manage to recover just enough to draw back - and you look up to see that your best friend is crying too, tears trickling down her own cheeks. You can tell that she's happy too, but...there's something wrong, isn't there? Something unsaid, brimming underneath. Something she's sad about that she's not saying.

"M-my, what a sight we must look." Mirai says after a moment, giggling a bit weakly. "Um, Miss Malal, may I ask for some tissues? Midori-chan and I need to stop embarrassing ourselves in front of everyone, here."

"...Midori, huh?" The Culexus pulls a small pack from a zip-up pocket on her suit, the sort people give out near the train stations and such. "The friend you were talking about."

"Yes. My very good friend. ...You have my thanks." Mirai sniffs, carefully tearing the pack open, and handing you a few sheets. You wipe your eyes and blow your nose with them, just as she does. You share an awkward smile after a few moments, and you both giggle again, at just how...well, ridiculous everything has been, so far.

She'd been sent earlier to kill you, after all. Then you saw her murdered by Kharn. And then...well, here you are.

"I'll have a talk with the two idiots over there, then. You look like you need to catch up with each other."

Time for another Miracle Midori hug special attack.
>>
>>22488451

oh god, what is this horrible foreboding feeling!?
>>
>>22488451

"Thank you, Miss Malal." Mirai murmurs softly, bowing, and the Culexus walks past you with a curt nod.

You watch as she walks up to the table where Chiaki and Homura are still eating - a steaming bowl of ramen in her hands as well - and she takes up the empty spot beside the pigtailed girl. Both girls stop and look up at the stranger in their midst - before all three of them nod in complete and perfect unison. They resume eating a moment later - or at least, two of them do, with Malal simply unclipping a smartphone from the front of her suit and tapping at its touchscreen.

"I'm...I'm glad to see you here, but you shouldn't have," The first words that Mirai actually says to you is in hushed, rather worried tones. "Pleaes, don't feel guilty with what happened. I...I know what I did. I know what happened. And I'm trying to make the best out of it as I can. While I still can."

...What? What is she talking about? You're here to save her! You're going to pull her out of this nightmare, back out into the real world, where things can be okay again!

"It's..." Mirai's expression darkens, just slightly. "...It's more complicated than that, Midori-chan..."

Yeah Kyouko
Cannot into braining right now
Maybe that is why no one can really dislike her, she pulses happy waves at everyone ( except that bitch Kirika )
>>
>>22488852
So maybe Homu has a similar trick.

Also, has it actually been explicitly confirmed that Culexus can only pulse amongst themselves, and can't contact non-Culexus if they want? I was under the impression that the thing that was unique about Kyoko was that she could pick up the Culexus "channel" even when they're only talking amongst themselves.

After all, QB communicates by pulsing all the time. If Culexus pulsing works the same way, it stands to reason they could talk to others outside their own ranks, though perhaps only one-way if the person they're talking to can't pulse back.
>>
>>22488510
"Complicated, how?"
>>
>>22488909
Kirika pulses bitch waves. They cancel each other out.
>>
>>22488917
Kyubey was surprised that Kyouko could pick up on it since it isn't something normal meguca are supposed to be able to hear

The culexus are the only ones who can do it between each other which is why they are doubly creepy to normal meguca because aside from being unsettling due to their powers they don't speak

I think it implies that whatever Kyouko wished for in this world was dangerously close to a culexus wish or had the underlying similarity of one
>>
>>22489007
Well, yeah, that's what I mean by picking up normal Culexus pulsing when most non-Culexus can't.

What I'm asking is, is it simply a matter of Culexus pulsing NORMALLY being a Culexus-only thing, but they can choose to pulse to non-Culexus if they want, or is it strictly limited to Culexus (and the odd anomaly like Kyoko)? A question of "do not" vs "can not". I don't recall seeing any explicit clarification, but the impression I got was the former.
>>
>>22489061
I got the impression it was can not after MAXIMUM CHRISTMAS when Deculture mentioned that she trained to do it in secret which would imply that normal meguca can't pick up on it or pulse and that being able to is an aberration
>>
>>22489097
That still doesn't preclude what I'm talking about here.

Yes, normally non-Culexus can't pick up on normal Culexus pulsing, nor can they pulse themselves. What I'm saying is, do we know for sure that normal Culexus pulsing (the sort which typically only reaches other Culexus) is the ONLY kind of pulsing they're capable of? Or could they, if necessary, send a pulse on another "channel" (so to speak) that other megucas can receive, like how QB pulses to megucas? Obviously if it's the latter then this open-frequency pulsing isn't something they do very frequently, but if it's a possibility then it would explain the apparent synchronization between Malal, Moemura, and Murderface just now.
>>
>>22488541 >>22488565 >>22488631

You shake your head at her. Of course, everything's complicated! This situation is the most complicated you've ever been in, but that doesn't matter, because you'll save everyone! Including her and your sempai! That's why you're here!

A stricken expression clouds Mirai's face, before it clears up with another smile as she clasps both your hands with hers. Her smile, simple as it is, is so heartbreakingly beautiful that you can't help but feel your cheeks crimson at the sight of it.

"...If only I saw that kind of Midori a bit more back then, I would've fallen in love with you right away," She murmurs in a gentle, if regretful tone. You blush even harder at this, but even your embarrassment at her words - such as they are - can't hide the unspoken meaning behind them. No, you refuse to believe it. It can't turn out like that--

"I know what you're doing," Mirai says suddenly, squeezing your hands. "You're trying to help your sempai - Murderface-san - get herself back together again, right?"

Y-yes. Yes, that's what you're trying to do. How did she know?

"Miss Malal told me everything." Mirai nods towards the Culexus. "Well, mostly everything. Some I had to figure out for myself. That's what we stepped out to try and do, earlier, until this...blasted rain came down and made a mess of everything." She shakes her head, her hair still matted wet against her scalp, her skin, her cheeks. "I have to admit, your sempai knows how to fight, even when she's in the grip of madness, screaming and roaring about the flesh of fallen angels."

...Who? Does she mean...she and Malal had been fighting another fragment of Chiaki?

[1/2]
>>
>>22489170

"Since I got here, yes." Mirai nods. "Miss Malal presented a very convincing case." Another smile. "Her blade is mine, as well as any familiars I can summon. Although, come to that, it's probably best if I don't summon any bears here." She frowns. "I'm a bit uncertain as to what form they'll take in this environment, or if I'll be able to control them at all. I'm...still getting used to everything."

...Right. Well. She's...fine, that's the most important thing. Anything else you can probably take care of later.

"Midori-san, you look like you need a few questions answered." Mirai murmurs, reaching out to take your hand again. "Some I can't answer, obviously, but anything else I'll try. You can ask Miss Malal too, if you want. We're just waiting for the rain to stop before trying again."

What question do you ask?
>>
>>22489170

>grip of madness, screaming and roaring about the flesh of fallen angels

Nail it but by god, I wished I was wrong.
>>
>>22489156
Except everything points towards that not being the case and that they can't because the culexus don't pulse to others.

You really think Malal wouldn't have done it to Kharn when she needed to talk to her? We get no indication that they can at all use that outside of their own conversations

We get no indication that they can't but it seems to be the more likely answer
>>
>>22489170

Point about Malal talking to Kharn. I'm generally good at remembering broad impressions and concepts from things I read, but not so much keeping track of the details, so I honestly didn't remember whether or not such a scenario came up as far as we'd seen.
>>
>>22489176
What do we do once we have the four Murderfaces in one place?

What's going to happen to Mirai once the Witch Barrier goes down, and is there any way to prevent it? Both Souji and Pinky thought it would be possible, but they never said how.

There was never a mention of it

I'm most curious about why Malal has apparently all but sworn fealty to Mirai. Seems pretty odd all things considered.

I think it would be a good idea to find out why and how we can be in Chiaki's barrier when Mirai is the one who's supposed to be a Witch right now.
>>
>>22489285
Except Malal is supposed to be dead, which would seem to imply that she's a figment of the barrier much like QBDad.

Lack of mention of it happening is one thing, lack of it happening when it would be a really damn good idea to do so is quite another. >>
>>22489370
I agree it makes sense that Mirai would accept the help. The mystery is why the help was offered in the first place, if Malal is (as far as we know) just a figment of the barrier. Granted, this is a terribly irregular situation already, but witch barriers aren't exactly known for spawning helpful allies for sane magical girls that get caught in them.

"Simple, really." Malal turns in her seat, leather-encased arm draping over the back of her chair as her skulled helmet swivels to face you. "We get them to do the fusion dance all at the same time. We then get Murderface Voltron, Defender of the Universe."

"Miss Malal, please be serious." Mirai chides the Culexus, before turning back to you. "The...long and short of it is we don't exactly know. Miss Malal is positive that bringing them together in one place should make something happen. Just what, we don't have any idea." She pauses. "We decided to go after the most difficult one first, the one who walks the Eightfold Path, the Chosen of the Blessed Lady." Your best friend gestures to the cuts on her arms. "The result is clear, unfortunately. We would have succeeded, had it not been for the rain."

"Still, it's a good job of you to get two of them in such a short time," Malal chimes in, any warmth in her voice stolen by vox corruption. "It's lucky you didn't run into the other problematic one."

...What other problematic one?

Mirai and Malal share a brief glance, before the former speaks up.

"The...the fragment of your sempai that wishes to destroy herself, of course. The one with the ribbon in her hair, the wings of pure hatred, and the golden shield clasped around her arm."

"Piece of work." Despite her helm, you're certain that Malal is wincing. "Maybe three will do, instead of four. That's what we're hoping, anyway. I doubt she'll even cooperate."

...What? Seriously?

How do you react?
>>
>>22489411
I'd say you have your reason right there:

>witch barriers aren't exactly known for spawning helpful allies for sane magical girls that get caught in them.

So if you meet someone from the outside it's not a bad idea to stick together.

"..." The Culexus stares at you in silence, as if considering whether or not to answer you. The vox unit at the mouth of her helm crackles briefly with static, as if preparing to broadcast her words - when Chiaki herself cuts the black-clad girl off with a reply of her own.

"Her name's Malal, Midori. Didn't you hear her?" Your boss - or at least, the fragment of your boss that's the most recognizable at this point of time - turns to grin at you. "And she knows a lot because, well, she's--"

"M-mortally challenged," Homura murmurs, a rather cheeky smile curling her lips. "T-that's what she was going to say, right? Malal-san?"

"...Yeah, that's what I was going to say." The Culexus nods, standing up. "You might have heard about me from the former Warmaster. I was her aide. Things happened. I'm as they say I am," she waves towards the two Homuras still in the middle of their meal. "..and for the benefit of everyone present, I'd rather not go into the events that got me here in the first place. What's more important is us getting her back together. Or at least, together enough that when this entire barrier collapses, she'll be sane enough to continue."

Crazy one? You mean the one she and Mirai just fought?

I have been dealing with people spouting half-truths that might endanger this whole undertaking all day so you can understand that I`ll be rather miffed if you don`t come clean right here and right now.

And the angry one is no problem, I can talk her down. If I have anything I have faith in after being stuck inside this barrier with a yandere half-witch all day, then it`s talking crazy people why try to rip me apart into reason.

The one with wings seems like bigger issue."

We should probably find out if IBRS is one of the Homus or another factor we'll have to deal with.

Work has kept me busy this morning, so I just skimmed over everything while on lunch break.

Midori is uniquely equipped to get RibbonHomu to calm down: her illusions either disguise her or make her look like what the viewer expects to see.

To RibbonHomu, she would look like Madoka (if the others can distract RibbonHomu long enough for the illusion to take hold)
>>
>>22490228
Seems kind of risky, but worth a shot, maybe.
>>
>>22490228

That could work, since we have been around Madoka for a while we might have enough information to use easy mode.
>>
Don't we have something to calm the Houm down?
>>
>>22490228
Wasn't this Homu the one that died to stop Madoka?
>>
>>22490285
We've got the tranqs, 2 doses I think? Probably best used on FoFA Chiaki, since I suspect they won't do much to RibbonHomu.

Of course, it's still a crapshoot with FoFA Chiaki, but I like the odds better.
>>
>>22490228
Definitely this
It could work perfectly if we can convince Pinky it is for the best so she doesn't come tear us apart mid way
>>
>>22490285

maybe an illusion enhanced Madoka would work to calm her down a little.
>>
>>22490285
Tranq darts?
>>
>>22490285
We actually do: a tranq gun, with three shots, if I recall.
And weapons-grade hugs.

Ah yes, mustn't forget the hugs.

You mean the real Madoka with the black eyes, talons and permanent coating of blood?

FoFA Chiaki IS RibbonHomu, I think.
The Crazy Homu is IBRS.

Her AI is all fucked up.
While the victim's subconcious works like a charm
>>
>>22490228

And while we talk to her as Madoka Kharn & Pinky show up.

Yes, we should talk to her. No, we should ot use the disguise. The disguise is left for the AngryHomu and for that we`ll use Mami.

Thanks. Didn't know this quest referenced anything else besides wh40k and Meguca obviously
>>
>>22490392
Also, by the sounds of it, I don't think it's darts. Seems more like one of those sci-fi easy injection devices where you just press against the skin and pull the trigger, rather than mucking around with needles.
>>

>>22490422

christ, Hidden get it together!
>>
>>22490395
Yes -- except also illusioned, the same way she was when we met Moemura.
>>
>>22490332

Pinky's my favorite character in this quest by far but I wouldn't let her anywhere near RibbonHomu.

RibbonHomu is the one who started everything, the one who ruined Madoka wish by trying to get her back. You know, the memory that nearly made Pinky tear the Barrier apart?

If you let Pinky near RibbonHomu, things will get ugly and fast.
>>
>>22490437

We haven't exactly been around Mami, the only away around this is to use the nightmare barrier and have everyone yell "Its Mami!"
>>
I can't wait until shit's going down

We're gonna pull Homu to our side and point Berserkharn
>Remember the talk about time-stops and fair play?
>Ye-yes?
>Disregard that and go fuck her up
>What about legs?
>What legs?
>>
>>22490405
No, RibbonHomu isn't the one ranting about the flesh of fallen angels.

Might be the version that's SUCCUMBED to full-blown FoFA mode, maybe, but that's not what I meant. I was talking about the one that Mirai described as mentioning FoFA.
>>
>>22490481

well, when you put it that way...

maybe we're not suppose to calm her down?

beat her in to submission because "fuck you and your selfishness"

we would probably still need all the help we can get.
>>
>>22489943
"Wait, there's 5 of them?
"And...Madoka. And Kharn. Will they help us? Or will they hinder us?
"And Mirai, how do we stop you from fully Witching out?"
>>
>Outside, the rain continues to pour. It's a miracle the streets hadn't flooded yet.

Thinking about it, we might have to do this in the damn rain.

Why is it raining anyway? Is Pinky feeling sad or something, remember that her temper tantrum caused a lot of effects in the barrier.
>>
>>22490651
This is Murderface's area, right? It could be just part of the atmosphere.
>>
>>22490651
Because Walpurgisnacht came with a storm? I kind of suspect that there will be a flood in this barrier.
>>
>>22490651
This is homu's barrier remember
So it should react to her mental state
>>
>>22490543

I still say that having "Madoka" calm her down would be the easiest way to get her to cooperate, and it's a pretty cool solution using the abilities we have at our disposal.

We just have to make sure that it isn't a Madoka that's going to flip out at the sight of her and kill everyone.
>>
>>22490695
>>22490739

....
I suppose since we removed the Muderface and the Moemura "controlling nodes" in this barrier. This barrier is starting for reflect the overwhelming sadness RibbonHomura must be feeling.

Finally off work and managed to read the thread properly. Throwing out some thoughts, even if it's over at this point.

RibbonHomu is a post-canon Homu that decided she was no longer happy with Madoka becoming a goddess of hope and erasing herself from physical existence. She once again tried to "save" Madoka and ended up putting in motion the events which led to Madokami falling and becoming Faust, setting up the quest proper.

Now, early on in Midori quest, Pinky grumbled something about "time lines converging" as she analyzed the barrier. This, combined with RibbonHomu's plan to kill one of herself, makes me think that she's trying the same thing as Archer: erase herself from existence by forcing a paradox.

Since this barrier is a "convergence of timelines" any version will do, but she'll probably be gunning for Moemura harder than any of the others in hopes of creating the biggest paradox possible. RibbonHomu is probably so messed up right now that she's probably thinking that if she can't "save" Madoka, then at least she won't put her through several timelines of misery by erasing the catalyst, herself, from ever making any changes to begin with.

Witch-wings, gold shield, her own version of Madoka's bow, who knows how many timelines of experience in combat, and a single minded determination to save Madoka no matter what...

Midori is in deep shit.
