You are a Magical Girl, and you're trying to rescue your own boss from...herself.

A supercharged version of herself, complete with a ribbon and wings and golden weaponry. A supercharged version that's also super insane.

The things you do for love.
>>
>>22516506

That's what it sounds like, after her dead colleague started telling you THINGS from inside a Witch Barrier. THINGS that you possibly couldn't have made up even if you tried, and you're supposed to be the one who thinks up of contrived situations to put your own self insert and the exaggerated expy of your boss through, in the name of LOVE and ROMANCE.

Your best friend, Wakaba Mirai, is there with you, along with two fragments of your sempai's broken psyche (original flavor and extra moe). With Malal, the Culexus who seems to have a strange connection with your sempai, your group comes about to five Magical Girls, all trapped inside a Witch Barrier. A Witch Barrier that also harbors an insane eldritchian horror in a pink dress and a metal-limbed maniac with a gigantic golden chainaxe hungry for skulls.

You have a way out, yes. It's right there on your wrist, a bulky digital watch. One press and you can leave this nightmare and everything else. Safe back in the real world. But doing that...that means leaving your boss here to die, and that's something you're not prepared to live with.

You are going to save her no matter what. Whatever it takes. Even if it kills you in the process.

Even if you don't know if things will work out the way they should.

You'll drag her kicking and screaming back into the real world. Back to the place where she can smile again, even if the reason she's smiling isn't you at all.

Your sempai is a broken thing, that much is clear. And you're not going to let anything get in the way of her having the tiny scraps of happiness the universe can spare broken things like her.

She deserves that much, at least.

[1/2]
>>
>>22516512

So, what are the THINGS that her supposedly-dead friend told you?

1.) One of your sempai's fragments is angry. Not the usual kind of angry where she simply frowns and goes quiet and glares at you until you apologize, but the angry where she seems to have grown teeth and claws and and other sharp things and can tear someone and half with them. Apparently, that's what they tried to fight earlier, and you can see from their tired, wounded states that it didn't go so well.

2.) The first one isn't the bad fragment, it's actually a good fragment.

3.) The bad one is all out-and-out insane, with a "ribbon in her hair", "wings of pure hatred" and "a golden shield clasped around her arm". The fragment of your sempai that wants to kill herself - which probably means that she's after her other fragments as well.

4.) To save your sempai, you have to get at least three of her fragments together, in the same place. You don't know what'll happen when you do. Neither does Malal or Mirai. You just have to, for some reason.

5.) Your shit is well and rightly fucked. No, Malal didn't tell you this, but from everything she's said, she might as well held up a sign that said so.

There are a few things that she's not telling you, however. Mirai is keeping back a few things as well.

What do you do?

Also... one of the support guys outside of the barrier mentioned that Kharn has also entered the barrier. How are we going to deal with her?

Some random thoughts on RibbonHomu from the last thread:

RibbonHomu is a post-canon Homu that decided she was no longer happy with Madoka becoming a goddess of hope and erasing herself from physical existence. She once again tried to "save" Madoka and ended up putting in motion the events which led to Madokami falling and becoming Faust, setting up the quest proper.

Now, early on in Midori quest, Pinky grumbled something about "time lines converging" as she analyzed the barrier. This, combined with RibbonHomu's plan to kill one of herself, makes me think that she's trying the same thing as Archer: erase herself from existence by forcing a paradox.

Since this barrier is a "convergence of timelines" any version will do, but she'll probably be gunning for Moemura harder than any of the others in hopes of creating the biggest paradox possible. RibbonHomu is probably so messed up right now that she's probably thinking that if she can't "save" Madoka, then at least she won't put her through several timelines of misery by erasing the catalyst, herself, from ever making any changes to begin with.

Witch-wings, gold shield, her own version of Madoka's bow, who knows how many timelines of experience in combat, and a single minded determination to save Madoka no matter what...

Midori is in deep shit.

You turn towards Kyuubey, who seems to be busying himself with counting the money from the money-box. The way he shuffles the notepaper around with those secondary ears that he has, before slapping the wad of bills against the edge of the counter, making a solid cracking sound, reminds you starkly of how your father did the same thing.

You shake your head at this, and ask him about what he said earlier. Something about the attunement of your Soul Gem to Chiaki's? What does that mean, and can it help in any way with what you're trying to do?

"You've forgotten already?" Kyuubey blinks at you. "Remember how she took you in instead of having you executed, back in the Silent Room? Your contract with your former Incubator was rewritten. Your Soul Gem is now linked to hers. Something of a one-way connection, granted, but in situations like these..." He shrugs, a tiny lift and fall of his small shoulders. "One of the advantages of attunement is being able to coerce the girl whose Soul Gem is linked to yours. Maybe, and this is just supposition - you may be able to get through to that fragment they're talking about. The berserk one, anyway."

...Well, yes, but what about the other one? The insane one, with the wings and all?

"It could possibly have an effect on her too. Or maybe she'll mistake you as another fragment, and use it to track your movements." Another shrug. "Again, I'm just making educated guesses, here. I'm not real, after all, but maybe the real me should think about getting into the food service industry, hands-on like this." Kyuubey makes a satisfied grunt as he slaps the wad of money again. "It's a refreshing change of pace from the drudgeries of dealing with frustrated young women."

...Right. Okay. You'll keep that in mind.

>>
>>22517359

You turn back to Malal and Mirai. The latter has picked up her own bowl of ramen, picking through its contents with a pair of chopsticks, eating only the vegetables. You hide a smile at this - even in this kind of place, she still is rather conscientious about what she eats. She explained to you once that the Pleiades Saints, with their exacting choice of uniform...you can't really be careless with your food choices, unless you suddenly wanted a wardrobe malfunction in the middle of combat.

"You're hiding something, aren't you?" You say as...calmly as you can, despite the fact that you want to throttle the truth out of them. Especially Malal - the fact that you can't see her face makes it doubly annoying. "Tell me everything. If we're to save sempai, I need to know everything."

Malal and Mirai share another pointed glance, before the former speaks up. "We've told you everything necessary for us to complete our objective. Anything else we've excluded isn't worth talking about, because there's nothing that can be done about them." She taps the screen of her phone. "There's such a thing as knowing too much, you know."

Mirai turns to the Culexus with an expression approximating...well, distaste, before swallowing and shaking her head. "It's...that's not quite the way I'd put it, Miss Malal, but..." Your best friend gives you an apologetic smile. "...she's right. Let's focus on getting your sempai back in one piece, Midori-chan. We'll worry about the other things later, when we can catch our breaths."

...These two. Nngh. Fine. They're right, but you'll ask them later, after you've rounded up the other two fragments. You won't settle for anything less.

[2/3]
>>
>>22517414

In any case, Souji needs calling. If what you saw earlier was in fact true, and not another hallucination afforded by this stupid barrier, then he'll want to know about Kharn.

You hold up the Telebort Beacon and press the button to initiate the call. Everyone, including Kyuubey, seems to fall silent as they hear the beacon trying to connect to the outside world, the only sound remaining being the rain falling outside. A sharp buzz of static, a couple of beeps, and Souji's voice comes on. Crackly and a bit weak, but it's there.

"Midori?" Souji's voice sounds tired, but relieved. "Christ. We thought you were already dead. What the hell happened? We've been trying to reach you for the last three hours. Listen, we've been tracking your position, and something huge is coming your way. Way, way bigger than the ones we saw earlier. You need to get out of there now."

How do you respond?
>>
>>22517414

Midori that's not how you sneakily interrogate them. What are you doing? Direct approach? For a girl with powers based around espionage and ninja'ing around that was amateurish.
>>
>>22517490
"Kharn's in here, she's helping someone called the Blessed Lady, I found Mirai, you find a way to save her and Kharn, and we're getting out of here now."

So out the back? I think that's the usual way to run.
>>
>>22517490

"I can't, Matsuda-sempai's still fractured, and Kharn is here too. Please, tell me where the other fragments are."
>>
>>22517540
This, but we also need to make sure we let the others know we need to haul ass.
>>
>>22517490
"Yeah, I know what's going on, more than you do at least, and I'm not leaving until I do what needs to be done to save Sempai.

Souji, your girlfriend is in here. She's working with Faust/Madoka, she calls her the Blessed Lady.

Give me the locations of the other fragments, I'm collecting them, prepare to send in Tiny Pete, we might need him."

>>

It has been mentioned that she took it easy during her training. And probably didn't have half the experience that she told Chiaki she had, back when she was making squid-cabbage balls for Kharn.
>>

Is this a open call?

Perhaps Malal and Mirai should listen in as well if they can.

Inform Souji that Kharn has joined up with the super witch signature that he tracked earlier and we need to know where she is right now and if he's ever heard about any "Blessed Lady" before. We'll be leaving immediately, but we need the location of the nearest fragment as we run.

This would also be a good time to transform and tell them to get Tiny Pete on stand-by and outfitted with even bigger guns, if possible.

How are the conditions of Moemura's and Chiaki's shields?

We might be able to get the FoFA Murderface to stand down but with Ribbons, the best bet might be to pass the Hypnogun to Chiaki and let her tranq ribbons.

>>
>>22517746

>>
>>22517864

She's the freshly contracted Homura. She and Chiaki were reminiscing about her attempt to use a golf club as her main wep.
>>
...Ok.

I do have some sort of tentative plan for our next step.
Thinking about it, our next step should be RibbonHomura, not berserkHomura. Because I am sure at this moment Kharn is beating up BerserkHomura.

Also I do have an idea how we could get RibbonHomura to stop being suicidal. I am not sure how good it is, though.
1. Approach RibbonHomura disguised as Madoka, ask Moemura for hints into impersonating Madoka.
2. If RibbonHomura doubts we are actually Madoka, don't deny it, but mention that we are actually a fragment of Madoka who can't stand seeing her in pain or something. That will explain our 'amnesia'.
3. While we got her attention, and she doesn't try to kill us, descretly cast a nightmare barrier so she can see only us and her surroundings.
4. Before the disguise attempt, give murderface the hypogun. She is the better shot, and devise a signal for her to shoot RibbonHomura. Also take a syringe for ourselves incase something goes wrong with murderface.
5. If we do somehow manage to calm her down, we will need to break the illusion sometime. When we do this, we pretend that the sane 'fragment' of Madoka 'possessed' us so she could give RibbonHomura hope or something.

That...that wasn't quite the news you were expecting to hear from Souji, but then again, what were you expecting? Something good?

You close your eyes for a moment, willing yourself to be calm despite the fact that he'd just told you to haul ass - and then tell him to slow down, that you need to tell him a few things, and ask him a couple of questions. There's a moment of silence, here, before he replies.

"Yeah, yeah, okay. Go ahead. Sorry, it's..." Souji seems to be doing the same thing to himself, trying to focus despite the temptation to panic. "...Right. Go on. What did you want to tell me?"

And you tell him. About what you saw with Kharn, and who she's with, and what you think is up. You also tell him that you've found Mirai, and she seems to be okay for the time being.

"...Right. Right. Yes. Kharn. Um." You're a bit disturbed at how Souji seems to be...well, going to pieces, here. He didn't even bat an eye earlier when a Witch suddenly exploded into existence in his base, nearly taking his fiancee out along with your sempai. You remember him being all cool as you like as Kharn started crying blood, trashing around and screaming gibberish until he gave her something to calm down. You had wondered if there will be anything that would really shake the young man, and it seems that now you've found it.

"...Forget about Kharn." Souji finally says after a long, painful silence. His voice sounding much more tired and strained now. "She's...she's compromised. Just focus on bringing Murderface out of there alive. She's more important."

You pause for a moment, blinking at this. He...how could he say that? How can he just consider Kharn gone? Surely there's something that can be done--

Not me, not her, not anyone else. I've accepted that." A moment. "Anyway, you need to move. The signal I'm tracking now is immense, and--"

"Souji?" A voice-corrupted voice comes on, from somewhere else, and you look up from the Teleport Beacon to see Malal standing beside you. ...You didn't hear or feel her step closer, so...yes. That's a bit scary.

"Who was that?" Souji blurts suddenly. "Wait. What? Malal? Is that you? How the fuck are you the--"

"I promised that you two idiots would have a happy ending, right?" Malal cuts him off. "Seems I've got another last chance to keep that promise. Consider this your early wedding present, nerd, and I won't tell her how you've given up on her so easily."

Silence.

"Now, continue what you were saying. What's headed our way that we need to evacuate?"

"Y-yeah. The...the signal. Huge one. Matches the one we've identified as Murderface, with the original Teleport Beacon and everything. It's headed your way."

"Right. Thanks." You can hear the smile in the Culexus' voice. "Tell Misaka hi for me, would you?"

"...Sure. I will." Another pause. "Thanks, Malal."

"No problem." Malal steps back, before nodding at you. "That's the angry one. She's probably followed us back. We can try and hide until she passes us, or face her head-on right now." She gestures towards the two Homuras. "With the three of you, we should be able to at least balance things out. We'll be doing it in the rain, though, so..."

Silence.

What do you reply?
>>
>>22518349
"We don't have the time to let her pass us by. There's too much going on to wait.

Would get used to being sick for Malal.

Lets do this.

Midori should stick with Moemura and use her timestop to get in close for the Hypogun, should we not be able to talk her down.

"Malal, what does the rain bring?"

We need to know this.
>>
>>22518349

What is it about the rain that makes it so difficult to reach her? Would we be better trying to confront her inside one of the buildings, in an attempt to trigger some sort of memory or to avoid the rain? Do we *really* have to beat her senseless, or will she become better one she calms down? How WILL we calm her down?

Also briefly mention the close call we had with her in the school.
>>
>>22518349

I'm going to reregister my objection to impersonating Madoka. Too easy to go painfully wrong. We desperately need Homura/Chiaki to trust us.

At this point I think we need to coordinate with (and/or re-coöpt) Faust, for several reasons -- because she knows more than we do, to have a real Madoka to calm RibbonHomu, and to get Malal close enough to Kharn to bap her on the head with a rolled-up newspaper.
>>
>>22518478
agreed with this.
>>
>>22518478

My issue with impersonating Madoka is we're not sure if this Homura fragment even recognizes Madoka outside of being "Pinky".
>>
>>22518349
"I can summon a giant robotic suit of armour to fight her. Would that help?"
>>
>>22518510

>>22518470
"Madoka still loves you" should work just as well, and it has the added advantage of being entirely true.

>>
>>22518349
Let's do it head-on. And summon our bigass robot suit.

>>
>>22518478
I agree we shouldn't impersonate Madoka but we should go full nightmare mode on Homu

Seriously blast her brains with concentrated happiness so it at least staggers her and we can either hypo her out or talk her down, preferably the latter but with no hesitation to do the former if we need to

And don't appear to her directly, at least not to start with, our little merry group keeps the fuck away until she isn't going to tear us all limb from limb the moment we step out

You decide to face the approaching fragment head-on, instead of hiding away and letting her pass. You're not sure what it is, but having Malal in your team - or just simply being around her, anyway - makes you feel as if you could actually succeed. Even if the one you're about to face is the kind of thing that made even someone like Madoka cringe and whimper and sob in fear - and that's the best case scenario. If this turns out to be the insane one with the wings and shit, well...it's not looking too good at all.

Malal looks at you silently for a few moments, before nodding, as if confirming something herself. "Right. Same decision I would've made, too. Wasn't at all that confident, really, when Mirai and I tried it, but with five of us, we should have something approaching a fighting chance."

...If she wasn't confident at all, then why the hell did she try, then?

She looks at you, amusement clear in her vox-corrupted voice. "Because I had to. Someone had to. Especially when the stakes are huge. Even if you've got less than a single percent of success, you have to try." She shrugs. "We actually came close to getting there, anyway, until the rain started. That sent everything to shit."

The rain. What's so special about this kind of rain, anyway? Does it mean anything inside this barrier? Does it attract familiars or something, or what?

Another glance, between Mirai and Malal, before Mirai herself replies. "Miss Malal believes that it's a representation of Miss Murderface's memories, or an aspect of it that elicits a reaction on her fragments. She remembers the rain, and she dreams about it, and it reminds her of a very traumatic event in her life. The trauma has its obvious effects, of course."

But what about Chiaki and Homura? How come they're not going crazy?

Malal shrugs at this. "Probably because they haven't experienced the event itself, or can't remember it." She turns towards the two Homuras. The one you're more familiar with, Chiaki, shrugs at this.

"Probably. I remember something with rain, but it's all in bits and pieces." She grins in a tired sort of way. "Not going insane here, though. Don't worry. Takes more than a little rain to do that." She nudges Homura with a gentle elbow, making the poor girl squeak in surprise.

"I...n-no, I don't remember anything bad about rain," She murmurs, shaking her head. "I like the rain, actually. It makes it nice to curl up in bed with a good book." She smiles at this. "A-and a cup of hot chocolate."

"There you go." The Culexus nods. "Anyway, if we're going to do this, we should aim to subdue. Hit her hard enough to drop her or render her harmless. Then we bring the other two to her, and..." Her voice trails off in a rather hesitant silence.

And...then?

"Then something...happens?" Malal answers after a moment. "I don't know. But something will. I'm sure of it."

How? How can she be so sure?

Malal's skulled helm turns toward you, before replying in a voice that's neither smug or snide - just a quiet statement, an affirmation.

"That's a secret." A moment more. "But it'll work, whatever it is."

Christ. More secrets. Are all Culexus as annoying as her?

"No," This time, Malal chuckles. "I'm the most annoying. There's one you should meet, thouh. She's got a pet tortoise--"

The bestial roar from outside exploded with all the volume and force of a thunderclap. The glass windows that allowed customers to enjoy a view of the street while eating their ramen cracking, then shattering, then blasting into the store in sharp, cutting shards. You would've shouted out a warning, had it not been for Chiaki diving from across the table and knocking you to the floor. You immediately catch her scent, an earthy one of sweat and blood and gunpowder, distracting you from her warm weight as it settles down on top of you. A half-squeak, half-sob, and you realize that Homura had also borne you down as well, the pigtailed girl covering your face with her own body.

It's then that you hear Malal swear, the furious, scathing hate coming across her helmet's vox speakers. "Fucking hell, she's here! Get up, all of you! SHE'S HERE!" A rasp of static. "MIRAI!"

"Here," You hear her reply breathlessly, and you catch a glimpse of silver coming alive in her hands. Her broadsword. The sword that she'd used a lifetime ago, in the Jyuubey's service. The sword that she'd used only a few days ago, when she was trying to kill you. "We're engaging, Midori-chan. It's her, she's here, and she looks angry." A moment. "Try not to enjoy yourself too much, alright?"

A flurry of footsteps. Another roar. A shouted challenge from Malal's helm speakers. And finally, the deafening noise of metal crashing against metal, again and again and again.

What do you do?

Let's change the environment. If talking doesn't work we'll have our allies stab her until it does.

Midori is attuned to Chiaki, or vice-versa. Perhaps Midori can try to speak to Chiaki in the same way that she tried to contact Madoka, earlier?

Do you guys think shuffling some of Midori's memories into the attunement would help? If this incarnation of Chiaki is the more recent one, it could help her remember who she is. Although it could confuse the hell out of Amnesiaki.

Keep in mind, 'Instant Sedation' trope isn't in effect here as Souji reminded us. My worry is either that interference causes us to waste a dose, or Ribbonmura just proves too berserk to subdue with a single dose.

Before you could even gasp out a reply - or to kindly ask the two Homuras to get off you so you could get up - they do so automatically, with disturbingly near perfect synchronization. Chiaki rising to her feet, a tarnished pistol in her hands, aiming at something outside the store while Homura herself helps you get back to a vertical base. Both of them showing nothing but disciplined, hardened determination in their eyes, on their faces. Yes, even Homura-chan, the whimpering, simpering young woman who looked like she couldn't hurt a fly even if it threatened to murder her entire family.

"Are you hurt, Midori-san?" You hear Homura ask, quietly, clearly, as she takes your arm to haul you up off the floor. You shake your head no, still a bit stunned from the sudden turn of events. You need to join that fight, before something bad happens. You need to get there and help Mirai and Malal, before--

"Holy shit. Is that what we're fighting?" The shock and surprise is clear in Chiaki's voice. The gun shakes slightly in her grip. "Is that...do we turn into THAT?"

You follow her gaze as you finally get your feet steady underneath you, and you couldn't help but echo her sentiments. Beside you, you hear Homura gasp, followed by a helpless whimper.

Bearing no wings of pure hatred nor a golden shield, or even a ribbon in her hair - the fragment that Malal and Mirai are currently fighting is a monster.

It's Chiaki, that much is sure - but turned into something that no Witch could ever match in hideousness. Her arms and legs encased - no, TURNED - into the same black, jagged fleshmetal that formed Kharn's feet and hands. But where they still somewhat vaguely resembled something human with the former Warmaster, here they looked more like weapons, part of a flesh-tearing automaton created by someone deliberately perverting the human form.

Mere scraps of her original Magical Girl costume, threadbare and crusted with blood, is visible from the gaps of the armor encasing her chest and most of her upper torso. Even the scarred shield is not spared - clamped to her right claw, it is tarnished, turned nearly crimson in rust, violet gemstones sparking in the exposed and infected machinery within.

But what gave you pause the most was her face.

Where both Homura and Chiaki looked quite like the sempai you left behind, perfect copies - this fragment resembled Chiaki like a statue resembles the subject it was modeled after, except reaved by a thousand blades and left in the rain to crumble. A network of scars cleaves her features, here and there, some already healed, some still healing. One particularly nasty one bisects her face from her chin to her scalp, the cut slightly veering off diagonally once it reached her lips. Her irises of her eyes, a cold and murderous purple, is pinned crimson, the pupils blazing red. The purple flame lashing and licking from her left eye, hotter and larger than you'd ever seen it before.

Her hair had also grown long, unruly, nearly feral, sprouting from underneath a crown of black thorns from her scalp. A semblance of sentience- or was it merely her trying to keep it out of her eyes while she fought? - is evident by the mass tied into one long ponytail, trailing behind her as she moved.

The sword in her hands is...it's less of a sword and more a jagged, serrated tool, easily as tall as her, made to rend flesh and crunch through bone. A thing of brutal simplicity, singular and sadistic in its purpose. A sword to kill and murder.

Chiaki - or the thing that looked like her - roars again as she crashes her sword against Mirai's, her mouth opening to reveal teeth much too fanged, much too sharp to be human. An undecipherable snarl, and you see Mirai being thrown aside with another crash, the Magical Girl landing hard on the muddy street with a pathetic splash. The monster moves in for the kill, limbs clanking - before it's stopped by Malal throttling it backward, pulling it away with a crowbar shoved against its unprotected throat.

"ANY DAY NOW, HANEGAWA!" Malal screams, her vox-snarl nearly lost in the roar of the rain. "WHENEVER YOU FEEL LIKE IT!"

Right. Right. You...you need to reach her, somehow. Yes. That's the main thing. You need to get through the anger, the hatred clouding her senses. Even you could feel it eminating from this one - so thick it left the taste on the tongue.

Without needing to say it, you run forward - out of the safety of your father's restaurant, into the rain, right into danger. Without even needing to tell them, the two Homuras follow you, their movements once more paired, synchronized. A buzzing sensation, an itch in your teeth, tells you that Homura herself had transformed, the same familiar costume materializing on top of her uniform. The golf club in her hands.

All three of you crash into the berserk fragment all at the same time. Chiaki braves the clawed arm bearing the sword - you hear her spit a curse that wouldn't have shamed your original sempai as she tries to pull the iron limb back with her entire body. A hammering noise, and the sound of something precious being ruined, tell syou that she's trying to disarm the fragment by slamming the butt of her pistol against its claws, again and again and again.

"You stupid idiot," You hear her rasp between bloody lips. "Calm...the fuck down..."

Homura had done the same with the fragment's other arm, clasping it with her entire body, while using her feet to brace against the monster's armor herself. It's almost humorous to look at, if you didn't consider the fact that you've seen another Magical Girl do the same thing, but to a human being. It tore his arm completely off the socket, which the Magical Girl then used to beat the man to death while he still screamed.

What did you do? Well...you did what you thought would work. You hugged her. Held onto her for as long as you could. It worked with Madoka, didn't it? It worked that one time, didn't it? Surely...surely it'd work now?

"DO IT," Malal's vox-speakers screeches at you. "GET HER SOBER OR KILL HER, BEFORE SHE KILLS US."

Righht. Right. You need to--

You close your eyes. Holding on tight. Ignoring the cuts in your arms, in your hands, the armor jagged enough and spikey enough to wound by touch alone.

+ SEMPAI. + You think this with as much force and volume as you could. + SEMPAI, PLEASE. CALM DOWN. I'M HERE. HANEGAWA MIDORI. DON'T YOU REMEMBER ME? +

The answer is immediate, abrupt, and bone-jarring. With another deafening roar and a frightening surge of strength, the fragment throws all of you off of her. You hear Chiaki yell in hurt triumph, and you turn to see her sprawled on the muddy ground, but with the sword in her hands. Homura lies facedown in the mud, unmoving, and your breath catches in her throat - but she moves again, pulling herself up to her feet shakily. Tears of hurt anger in her eyes. Malal is...well, she's up on her feet, already, the crowbar bent but still in her hands. Beside her, Mirai is once more preparing to strike.

It's then that you feel it. A reply, pulsed back, weak but angry, helpless but enraged, made jagged by desperation.

+ NO. MIDORI IS DEAD. I KILLED HER. KILLED EVERYONE. LOST CONTROL. YOU ARE FAMILIARS. TRYING TO TORTURE ME. TRYING TO TRICK ME. ALL ALONE. +

Magical Girls becoming witches used to be inevitable. Then, them disappearing before they could was inevitable. Now both of those are fucked.

The moral of the story is, try to kick inevitability in the balls. The worst that can happen is we die, and that was going to happen anyway.

We simply accept that its Midori's time. This is her moment to shine and go out like the flame she is, with one last blinding burst of light before the darkness. This is Midori's fate, this is why she is here. To save the one she loved. The time has come for your waifu to die, and in the process save another.

The narrative must come to a close, and honestly you don't get better moments than the heroic sacrifice for a loved one.
>>
>>22521994 >>22522081 >>22522183

"Again," You hear someone say, and it takes you a few moments to realize that the one who spoke was you. The monster in front of you is wary, her eyes wide, the purple flame sputtering and flickering in alarm as she looks around like a cornered animal. And she is, in a way - all five of you surrounding her in a loose circle.

"We have to try again." You repeat, tasting blood in your mouth. "I know what to do."

"Sure," Chiaki grins as she tosses the wicked, curved sword over her shoulder, the weapon spinning end over end before stabbing itself into the ground quite a bit away from the group. "But we'll have to think of a new plan, because I'm pretty sure I'm not that stupid to fall for the same thing twice."

"You'd be surprised." Malal says dryly. "Homura? Are you alright?" She calls towards the pigtailed version of your sempai, who is...well, she's looked better, with the lens of her glasses cracked, and the front of her magical girl costume covered in mud. Despite this, however, fierce determination has her face in a quiet scowl, and she gives a nod to the Culexus. The same query, posited to Mirai, is replied with a silver broadsword cutting air in quick, practiced swoops.

"Right." Malal breathes out the word, causing a strange-sounding digitized sigh to rasp from her vox speakers. "Hanegawa, get ready to pulse once we've restrained her. Stand your ground until then."

What? N-no, you'll charge with them. You're not--

"I said stand your ground. Now, on my mark. Ready, set--"

There was no GO. Malal burst forward, and the rest moved into action, just like that. Once more charging the armored Magical Girl in front of you, seeking to restrain her again.

Here it comes

The other shoe
>>
>>22522880

She is prepared, this time. With the alarming speed and strength usually given to those fighting against superior odds, fighting in a corner with no hope to escape - the fragment lashes out. Without a weapon, she uses her claws, her feet, her armor, her teeth.

Chiaki is the first to reach her, and the first to fall. The claws raking across her entire front, tearing through cloth and skin and flesh. Blood mingles with the mud, a dirty sludge, as the fragment that most resembled your sempai fell at the monster's armored feet.

Malal is the second. Blasting her hate across her helmet's speakers, she flies at the monster once more. You hear her words cut off in a garbled rasp of static, overwhelmed by the sound of plexiglass cracking and steel wrenching as a clawed fist smashes right into the mouth of her helm. She rocks on her feet, before falling on her knees. Blood dripping from her shattered mouthpiece, a rasping breathing broadcasted by a clearly damaged vox.

Both Homura and Mirai attack at the same time, in a strange, almost unexpected synchronization - and fall at nearly the same moment. Golf club and sword hammer and slice and pound and cut at the monster, Mirai's cold grace matching Homura's clumsy, but eager rage. Your best friend crumples with a bladed kick to her stomach, her sword wrenched out of her hands, and she falls to her knees in the same moment that Homura is knocked unconscious by two meters of heavy silver slamming against the back of her head.

There's a sharp sound, of metal being forced to SHATTER, as the beast breaks Mirai's sword over her knee.

The entire ordeal lasted no more than a few heartbeats. You knew, because yours was thudding in your ears the very moment Malal signaled the attack, lending a strange backbeat to the carnage. But you stand your ground, just like you were told to.

You stand your ground.

Because Miracle Midori never runs away, not even from a losing fight.

[2/3]

But you stand your ground, and pulse your message to her, clearly and strongly, your arms spread out to welcome your death.

+All Alone? ALL ALONE! You have never been all alone, you have had people do everything they can to get close to you, and they're still trying no matter how hard you push them away, I'm still trying. I love you, you saved me and I will love you until the day I die. +

There's a sharp whining sound as the weapon's edges seem to glow a furious, hateful purple, and various chambers and sections unfold from its chassis with a mechanical precision. It seems to be charging up for something, but you ignore this.

+ The only one you're hurting is yourself. I know you're still there, you know that it's the real me talking to you.+

Steam starts to hiss as rain continues to fall, the drops that fall on the weapon evaporating even before they've kissed its harsh metal surface. Behind it, the girl you love, deformed in the most cruel of ways, stares at you, the flame licking from her eye all but blazing.

+I know you won't kill me, and even if you did my life has been yours all along. I love you, so let me save you this time.+

Silence. Nothing else but the roar of the rain, and the whine of a charged weapon about to be unleashed.

It's then that the purple flame sputters. Once, twice.

Before suddenly dying.

The weapon ceasing its teeth-itching whine, before being lowered slowly, until its blade-tip is no longer aimed to end your existence in a single thrust.

And it's then that the monster utters something. A single word, mangled by lips unused to speech, murdered by a mouth too full of sharp teeth. It comes out slow, painful, and colored with a hope too weak and injured by crushing despair.

"Mi...dori?"

What do you do?

>and he's blatantly tempting fate right there
Yes i am, because i know Deculture wont do it because it will upset his fanbase greatly. And just like every other /a/ quest, the GMs may like to cause their players angst but they dont want them to leave. Hell he has already proven it when the sword didnt force us to kill everyone after /tg/ went full retard and PICKED IT UP, in spite of EVERYTHING telling us not to do it.
>>
>>22523456
so In the whole /tg/meta quest and editors whatnot with the transpace guard and all of that there was a guy who kept tripfagging as Raidah who would actively go out of his way to go fuck up everything anybody does.
say people are going off to bossfight land and there are obviously a shitload of traps, rush the enemy.
see a helpful person, punch them in the dick.

also he would samefag massively until he got what he wanted, but anonymously and essentially pissed off the entire group for a long ass time.
THAT is raidah syndrome.

"It's me." You say now, saying it with your own voice.

"Just me. Took you long enough."

The monstrous lance deactivates with a series of metal clicks - the sections that had opened up earlier closing and sliding shut - before the entire weapon itself is dropped to the ground in a wet crash. A look of pale, abject shock gracing the monster's - no, your sempai's - face.

+ SAW. SAW YOU DIE. SAW EVERYONE DIE. KYOKO. SAYAKA. MAMI. MISAKA. KILLED THEM. TRIED TO SAVE THEM BEFORE CORRUPTION. WAS ALONE. TRAPPED HERE. + She looks down at her hands, each claw already stained by fresh blood - before she looks back up at you, again. + IS IT. REALLY YOU?+

The answer you give her, then, is a hug. An embrace that you step forward into, your movements slow, careful but deliberate - and you feel her stiffen at this, the pieces of her armor clanking together as she shivers.

+ It's me. Midori. I'm here, sempai. +

A moment more, and it's then that you feel her move again.

Her arms moving slowly, carefully, to...return the hug. Tears springing in your eyes as she does so.

+ MIDORI, I--+

Her message is rudely cut by a noise loud enough to tear through the roar of the rain. Chewing through it in a loud, guttural roar. A noise you've heard before, back in Siberia, while your sempai and her former colleague hunted Mirai. You heard it again, louder and from twinned weapons, when Chiaki and Kharn fought in that training room.

Valnikov Kharn, wearing a black greatcoat and a cap with an skulled emblem, smiles at you as she stands behind the fragment of your sempai that you'd risked death trying to calm down. The double-bladed chainaxe resting on her shoulder, its motors idling, teeth chewing air.

And she is smiling. Not maliciously, not terribly, but smiling sincerely.

"M-Miss Valnikov?" You gently and slowly pull away from Chiaki - and she turns around as well to meet the newcomer. "What..what are you doing--"

"Ah, see?" Kharn, cutting you off, gestures to both of you. "That is what an aide is all about, Midori. You are there for your Warmaster, even if it means death. Even if it means suffering." She glances towards the still-kneeling form of Malal, and she freezes for a moment, seemingly stunned, before shaking her head and continuing. "You...you will make an aide worthy of Murderface yet."

She takes a step towards you - no, towards Chiaki - just as she levers the giant chainaxe off of her shoulder. A click, and a loud mechanical noise, and the chainaxe breaks apart into two. Gorechild and Gorefather. Each one now revving harder, revving faster. Their combined noise loud enough to rouse the ones knocked unconscious by the fight earlier.

"Miss Valnikov, please, you don't have to do this--" You try, your eyes wide, your throat dry.

"Kharn," Malal's voice, now muffled through her helmet, no longer being broadcasted from a vox, sounds...familiar. Terribly so. "Kharn, don't be stupid."

"Ah, ah. No more lectures, Malal's Ghost. And no pleas, loyal aide." Kharn's smile is sharklike. "I am the Betrayer, am I not? It is my role. It is what I am chosen for. The Blessed Lady decrees it. Her will be done. She wants this to happen."

Cold purple eyes glance back at you, crimson-pinned, before the armored fragment of your sempai's psyche moves to interpose herself between you and the approaching russian.

"And I want my last swordfight."

While incapacitating Kharn is an adequate interim solution, it doesn't solve the whole problem; Kharn might just go straight for ANGRYface the moment she wakes up. We need to either talk Kharn down (which we might as well do now) or find Pinky and change her mind to do the same (which would probably benefit from the extra time).

>>22524109
Well it keeps bringing you back. So id say you think hes a decent writer.
>>
>>22524109

Ah, sorry about that, sir. D: I'm still trying to improve in my writing, especially towards Noir, and I recognize that I am indeed weak in that regard. I'm doing my best to be better at it, though!
>>
>>22524154
Nah your fine dont worry about it.
>>
Should we start archiving it yet?
>>
>>22524184
Chikuwa has happened, go for it.
>>
>>22524129
No need to apologise, man. Given that most native speakers don't even know how the syntactical structure behind the rule works, and that it's the only grammatical error I've seen in any of the threads as far back as I can recall, you're pretty damn safe here.

Anyways, keep it up, man. I'm loving the whole thing so far, so thanks a lot for putting up with us all and our incessant arguing and whatnot.
>>
>>22524133
Actually, I just skimmed this thread to see what all the fuss was about. Coulda sworn the MC was named Anon-kun the writing was so bad.
>>22524154
>D:
Keep diggin that hole. Regardless, your writing style is nearly the complete opposite of noir. It might have something to do with the quest-necessitated use of the second person, but the lack of any introspective narration and general flatness to the narrative does not make for good noir.

Obviously a decent number of people like it and will call my opinions trolling, but the to put noir in the name is highly misleading.
>>
>>22524109
Thats due to how the players directed it
The first couple of threads were fine for noir

This is more polished turd world style than really dark
>>
Decu, what would you do if someone really posted all the Chikuwas, thus preventing you from ending a thread with one?
inb4 he has hidden Chikuwas stashed away
>>
>>22524191
is this 77 or 76 pt 2?
>>
>>22524208
He would make a new Chikuwa
>>
>>22524213
77, of course.
>>
>>22524198
Honestly, I think the lack of Noir at this point is less due to Deculture's writing style, and more because of player choices. I mean, we started off a chain-smoking, heavily alcoholic gun-for-hire that got drawn into a mess involving famous TV idols and gangs.

It kind of went downhill from there once choices got involved.
>>
>>22524198

I'm sorry for the emoticon, sir, and I will keep your comments in mind. I take all feedback seriously, and I appreciate the time you take for your comments.

>>22524197
Oh, thank you! Still, it's something I should remember, I'll definitely note it down. Thank you for enjoying it and I'll do my best not to disappoint!
>>
>>22524223
Very much so
The original idea had pretty much deckard Homu as the MC and now things have changed due to tg
>>
>>22524228
He can go fuck himself Decu
Emoticons aren't that big a deal, retards like him just make them out to be
>>
>>22524208

I'd make a new Chikuwa! But Nicehatguy made all of them, so...yeah, I'd make a new one.

That alone doesnt make noir. Noir is about narrative and style as much as mannerisms. Roger the Negotiator was noir as fuck and I'm not sure he ever once touched a cigarette. Hell, someone wrote some noir about a hard-boiled Hedron Crab for /tg/ once. I might have to go thumb through the archives to see if it was really all you cracked it up to be, but right now it looks like his writing is indeed in part to blame.
>>22524228
Dont worry about it. I am clearly the outsider here and youve already got a decent following doing your stuff. Besides, as you can already see I'm getting flamed to hell for having a differing opinion, so don't mind me.
>>
>>22524258
How's this for decription?
>A brave green haired magical girl attempts to save her beloved's soul.
>>
>>22524278
No but it was a good start and obviously you haven't read it since the story did start off very noir but with tg being tg it quickly got thrown out the window
>>
>>22524301
>obviously you haven't read it
Well no shit, Detective Leroy McShit-for-brains, I literally just said that.
>>
>>22524284
It sounds like a generic waifu quest description

Yes fuckwad I know you said it but I meant that it was very clear you hadn't read it because you are acting like an expert in something you have no fucking clue about

Why you even bothered to stop by here is a mystery to me
>>
>>22524278
You're okay, man.At least you're offering constructive criticism, rather than throwing shit like some people.

If you feel like it, you can check out the archives at http://magicalgirlnoir.com

>>22524258

Will we see a silly Midori recreate the dreaded Whiskey Pancake?
>>
>>22524278

I don't consider you a troll, sir. Noir is what I've always wanted to write, and Max Payne was my favorite game ever since the first game came out. MGNQ is my attempt to try and capture even a tiny bit of that, and I've been trying as hard as I can.

You're not the first to say that how I write isn't Noir enough. But as I've said, I've been doing my best to try and catch all the notes and mannerisms. It's a learning process for me, made even slower because I know that my writing style isn't fit for it. I'm just lucky that some people seem to like it even then.

I do hope that one day I'll be able to write something that's Noir enough. Hopefully not going down the path of Frank Miller because that's just much too Noir for me that it's almost ridiculous.
>>
>>22524301
This.
>You find a visibly shaken young woman standing at the door with your new employer. By all accounts, she just survived a violent assault and rape by a local gang. What do?

"GUISE LET'S INVASIVELY FRISK HER WITHOUT TIME STOP WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG!"

>Having barely survived the night, your employer now seems unhealthily infatuated with you. What do?

"MAN WAIFU TIME LET'S LESBONER THE IDOL AWWWWW YISS!"

>Your unhealthily attached not-girlfriend is getting jealous about you spending time giving her would-be rapist orgasms when she thought you were dead.

"FUCK THAT BITCH GODDAMN CUT HER LOOSE!"

/tg/ is not good at noir or decisions in general
>>
>>22524329
I know noir, and I know this thread wasn't very noir. Some people said previous threads were noir, to which I said I cant make an informed statement on that having not read them myself, but if his writing style is anything to go off of, I don't see how it can be very noir since noir is about more than the setting.
>Why you even bothered to stop by here is a mystery to me
I literally said that, too. To see what the hubbub was all about. Why I stayed is a mystery to even myself, since this place is very antagonistic towards people with differing opinions.
>>
>>22524358
agreed like i said, the Raidah syndrome.

seriously though, i probably spent half this entire quest raging at the fanbase and the other half watching to see whats going on.
>>
>>22524341

Hahaha! Well, that depends on what everyone picks!
>>
>>22524345
I think, on the whole, you'd find it easier to write Noir works without the need to also take consensus choice into consideration.

I mean, I love the story and all, and this is in no way a criticism of your writing. It's just that the overall /tg/ mindset of 'boner boner white-knight boner romance 40K boner lesbians grimderp awesome boner why aren't there more lesbians' isn't really conducive to writing Noir.
>>
>>22524392
I don't even think half of /tg/ even knows what noir is.
>>
>>22524392

It was actually my idea to try the quest format. I have a very horrible track record when it comes to writing a project. I thought that if it got into something like this, with user interaction, that'd get me into writing more and more in a regular basis. It worked well enough, I can write more than half a single page in eight hours, more or less!

>>22524369
I agree with you, this isn't as noir as I would like, really. If anything, I was going for the mood, an oppressive darkness and hopelessness rather than grim, grit-your-teeth hardboiledness. But if it isn't even then, well, I apologize, and I promise I'll try harder next thread.
>>
>>22524430
Black-and-white, fedora, trenchcoat, dames and cigarettes?
>>22524526
Silly Decu, you can't tell /tg/ something is hopeless! They'll dive right into and force you to give them a way out or end the story within the first few sessions.
>>
>>22524526
Like I said before, I'm probably cutting and running after this thread, so don't try to please me.
>>
>>22524564

Wasn't trying to please anyone, sir. Just responding to comments and feedback as they are. Thanks for reading, though!
>>
>>22524358
>/tg/ is not good at noir or decisions in general
But half of noir is people making stupid, rash, lovestruck/revenge/emotion-fuelled decisions leading to tragic, tragic endings.

/tg/ is entirely within noir with that regard
>>
Oh man. It just hit me now that Murderface felt up Midori in something like the first or second thread. When she had never met us before and was already writing her lesbian porno doujinshi.

Her introduction to Murderface was literally her getting borderline molested by her idol and crush who, in all her fantasy scenarios, is always dominant. No wonder she was so fucking attached to us in such a short timespan.
>>
>>22523929
Everyone knows there is only one answer to Kharn`s Bullshit.

[x] Walk up to her and BITCHSLAP her.
[x] Then contact Souji om your communication device and yell at her.

"Tell him that. Tell him that right here and now. That you don`t give a shit about his feelings for you nor yours for him. Tell him that yourself, because I sure a hell won`t tell him why we had to put his retard of a loved one down because she only thinks with her fucking adrenaline glands. Go on. He deserves at least this much, you bitch. "

I can`t ne the only one who is sick and tired of Kharn`s retarded antics.
>>
>>22524942
Felt up, shot in the kneecaps, saved from a horrible horrible job. Then soul licked. And tormented about her fantasies.

The cycle of abuse and mistreatment mixed with actual acts of kindness draws people in more tightly than just kindness.

I have a hard time picturing you as something other than a raging autist.

I mean, there is feedback, I know how it looks, everyone knows how it looks, heck, I also gave Deculture some threads back about how I feel that the 40k gets a bit much.

That what you do, however, is no giving feedback, its walking straight into a room full of people you don`t like, enjoying something you also don`t like and then raging at them for their shittaste.

So, please, just let me ask you one straight question: How much of a fucking autist do you have to be to not notice that?
If you are trying to bamboozle us, it worked, then again its not very hard to troll /tg/ but if you are really serious about what you say, you should probably reflect on yourself, your behaviour and the things you said so far.

There is criticism and then there is being a ragging cunt trying to tell people to stop liking what you don`´t like.

Might work, might not.
From what Souji said, they've already talked about this, and she already told him she's going to Witch out like this, or something similar.
>>
>>22526371

Calling her out on her antics and melodramatic bullshit is always an option. She's not even *trying* to work against the Betrayer title now because it's easier to fall into what other people's expectations of her are, she doesn't even know what the Blessed Lady's true name is or what her motivations are, and she's essentially looking for a good albeit lazy way to die. She's attempting to go for the bitch 35% completion ending instead of collecting all the characters and such.
>>
>>22526474

She wants to be a betrayer right?

Shes working for The Blessed Lady now right?

She can always just betray The Blessed Lady.
>>
>>22525101
You sound like quite the asshole.
