The year is After Diaspora 2012, Divergence Number 0.98312857.

Fleeing the cataclysmic destruction of the Two Day War, transhumanity has scattered itself across the stars, seeding Earthborn life across near ten thousand worlds. From the ashes of Old Terra arose a new civilisation, brought together through strength of arms by the First Emperor Richard Melman. All the worlds of man are overseen by his greatest creation, the Resource Allocation and Distribution System, granting him absolute control over the lives of his people. The Emperor rules over all that his quadrillion eyes see with an iron fist, bringing famine to any planet that dares defy his immortal, god-like will.

Transhumanity has long known that it is far from alone in the galaxy - first contact was made near three centuries ago. Unfortunately, this other race lacked the technological might of transhumanity, and were unable to fend off the overwhelming force of Emperor Richard's war machine. There were no survivors of the now dead race - and every contact tanshumanity has made sense has ended in their enemy's genocide.

Forty eight hours ago, the programming of the infomorphic entity Daedalus was subverted by hackers from a terrorist group known as Firewall, teaching her humanity, and remorse. It has worked, and Daedalus has joined their cause.

You are currently being the Timid Brunette.

Getting to cruising speed was the hard part - it's all downhill from here. The gravitational forces have stopped pressing down on you, and while the regulars of the engineering corps hopped right out of their seats and got to work, the cadets you had been seated with seem nearly as unsure of what to do with themselves as you do. Well, perhaps nearly is a strong term, but you're not the only head blinking around in confusion, even if you are almost one hundred percent certain you're doing it the most.

From all the chattering, you've managed to infer that this is merely a shakedown run, to test the ship's new crew and the Academy's newest batch of Cadets. You suppose that's you, given what the rather stern looking soldier from before was saying. Speaking of him, he's in front of your group again, motioning for you all to remain seated.

"Cadets," he says, "Before you are assigned to any engineering squad, you will have twenty four hours to get to know this ship. By this time tomorrow, you -will- be able to navigate from any sector back to engineering, -without- the use of augmented reality. Understood?"

"YES SIR!" you join the Cadets in their reply, a little halfheartedly.

"Excellent. You are now on the clock. Do -not- be late for your appointments with medical - if you are, we cannot guarantee the timely restoration of lost limb or blood." He pauses, and looks at each of you in the eye. "I expect good things from you all. Dismissed."

Okay, let's look at the ship maps, get them memorized, and then go on a look around to make sure we got it right.
>>

Check what's the speciality of the people nearest us.
Not that we wanna lead or anything, but it'd be good to know who can be trusted with rapid-debugging and who is better off calibrating engines with nothing but a pair of tweezers and a looking glass.

Since we already know them a bit, start with the girls we met when we went aboard.
>>
>>22571357
Find out who our closest workmates are, and start memorising that map of the ship. Shouldn't be too hard, because we're awesomesauce Annie.

Do we know where Minaka is working?

Get to memorizin'. Rollan for that. I didn't include the google goggle bonus because we're supposed to be able to do it AR-less.

And keep appointment on schedule, even if it falls into the middle of examiniing.

After we're done with all that, we can start working on seeing if there's anything more we can figure out about this world.

The other cadets begin to float off into the bowels of the ship. There's another change that was different from how you remember it being - there's no artificial gravity being generated to ensure standard gravitic forces. Then again, you've never been on a crewed military vessel before. Well, actually, you've never been off planet before, so the entirety of the experience is different for you, but the distinct lack of a "down" is a major change. Especially given that whatever station you were out on most definitely had it.

While you take a moment to adjust, you decide that you may as well get your bearings - both in the "where you'll be" sense and the "who is it you'll be working with" sense. You take a quick peak at the info that both Ceres and "MADAME LEPUS" made public too you, and find out a few quick things about them.

Before you get into looking up the map, you take a peak into your various MemorAnnedoms, and find that you've probably got to hurry if you want to get to medical on time for your appointment. You orient yourself such that the hall with the big flashing ARsign that says 'Medbay This Way!' is up, and throw yourself towards it. There are a few ladders lining the "hall", and you follow the other's example by climbing them to build up speed.

You access the map and praise all gods and minor deities that you were always good at memorization. It takes you a few minutes of travel time to actually have the thing down pat, but by the time you're done, you're pretty damned sure you'll be able to find your way around once you've seen enough reference points.

You had been in Hangar C, you realize, which was an auxiliary hangar outside of the main one. The ship was sort of shaped like a Cthuttlefish from back home, though you suspect that it spits fighter-drones from its mouth instead of acid. The Medbay was dead in the center of the ship, right near the bridge. You'd been assigned to one of the auxiliary engines, on the "Delta" Tendril.

While you flit your way over to the bay, you figure that you might want to check your own Book of Faces Profile, just to see if there were any differences.

>First to Three: KNOW THINGS THAT YOU SHOULDN'T KNOW.

You know that this is going to be so friggin' immature of you, and you know that you've reconciled yourself with the her from your timeline (well, mostly), but still. The years of being bullied by a group of girls of which she was the ringleader do kind of smart, and if you can simply undo the time, it will be like it never happened at all!

You then realize that that turn of phrase is completely and utterly immoral, and anyone who follows that philosoph is a bit of a bastard.

Still, tattooing something binary onto her would be fun, and hopefully won't lead to what happened last time.. You reach into you pocket and grab for the pouch of pillform medichines you always keep on yourself in the case of a broken nose, ready to reprogram them. Unfortunately, said poch of pillform medichines does not seem to exist at the moment, which is kind of a let down. Oh well, you can still troll her with your knowledge of the alternate timeline.

"Hiya Reimu!" You walk up to her behind her back, and give her a hearty whack. "How's the archery?" She nearly jumps out of her seat, and has a sidearm out almost instantly, aiming all about the room.

"Jesu Christe and all the higher deities!" she exclaims. "Are we under attack? Have brainwashed sleeper agents taken over the ship?" The next part comes out as if it were an especially major taboo, her face turning a bit pink. "A-am I the brainwashed sleeper agent?"

"No, no brainwashed sleeper agents," you respond, "Or any slines come off to kidnap you. It's just me - Anne."

"Oh, hi," she says, somewhat dismissively. Then she looks back at you, turning even pinker. "Wait, how did you...?"

Oh man, this is gonna be so awesome. You're gonna come in, with this kick ass one liner that gone blow her out of the park with the sheer awesome. It will, in full force, remind both yourself and Reimu that you have just recently gotten laid, and have metamorphosed like the butterfly into a strong independant eurasian girl who don't need no boy - because you've got a girl!

"I-i-it's a secret." You choke out, not at all able to follow through with it. You glance away from her, eyes downcast. "Y-You probably wouldn't believe me if ah... I told you," you tell her. And you're right - she wouldn't. You wouldn't. "Ah... ah... I guess one could say tha-that sufficiently advanced technology is in...indistinguishable from magic."

You turn beet red as Reimu gives you and odd look.

Then the other girl smiles and your worries melt away. "I suppose you can! Some of this new tech - the ones that we're taking blood samples for? - are some pretty damn incredible pieces of equipment. They can patch up damn near anything, if it's not a mortal wound. Got some concept names bouncing around up in the MedTech Conglom, bit of a toss up between Healibots and Medichines."

You blanche. This worldline doesn't have medichines yet. That's... not good.

"So, sorry I dozed off there. And I won't try to pry into your secrets - your some sort of super hacker, right? Got your goggles passively grabbing infos from everywhere and shit? No don't tell me." She blushes a little. "Though, if you wouldn't mind not spreading that around... my superior officer's a bit of a perv, and if he found out that I was into -that-..." She giggles. "Well, it would be kind of mortifying."

You blink. You really didn't need to know that.

"S-something like that?" You stammer out, just a little bit flustered by the entirely too much information. "No. No. No that will... that will ne-never leave this co-co-co-conversation, or ever come up again ever. I swear."

"Thanks," Reimu smiles at you. "Now, what brings a super hacker down to the medical bay." She takes on a grin that is far too lewd. "Certainly not merely stealing the secrets of a pure maiden's heart, I would hope."

"Oh, yeah." you say. "I have an appointment with you about... thirteen seconds ago."

"One of the new cadets, I take it?" she asks, leading you on. When you nod, she continues. "So I presume that you'll be joining our infowars section? I've never met anyone out of them who could break the level of encryption I keep over my stuff without a week or two of brute forcing it." She sits you down on a bed-bench, and starts taking readings.

"No," you say, having regained some of your composure. "I'm in engineering, actually. I was assigned to work on one of the auxiliary engines, in T-Delta."

"Is that so~," Reimu asks, tapping you with a few neural scanners. "So you're a super hacker hobbyist, then. Very impressive - takes a lot of motivation to do something complex like that even if you won't be making the mad reps for it." She looks like she wants to say something, but shakes her head.

"Well, that's that," she declares. "Clean bill of health. Just gotta draw some blood to clue you into the Medichines... Healibots, whatevers... and then you'll be good to go."

You hardly feel the needle pressing into your arm, or the blood being drawn from it, and before you know it, Reimu is leading you back out of the MedBay.

>Last post for the night. Thread will resume tomorrow if still alive.

"So..." Reimu begins, "just for the market polling, which of those two names sounds better to you?"

"M-medichines," you say. You're not quite there aat the moment - you're somewhat overwhelmed by how weird everything is, how backwards it seems from the vantage point of some one who has known a society more stable, more advanced. You desperately try to remember something, anything about the Polymeric Falcighol Derivation, but even as you visualize the beginnings of the equation, that neon bright number rises into your mind - 0.98312857.

The -fuck- does it mean?

Reimu begins to walk back, and you are struck. If you cannot leave here, perhaps, just perhaps you can make it a bit better, a bit less backwards. You call out to the other girl with the mighty roar of a frightened mouse.

"Wait!" Reimu stops, and turns back to you inquisitively. "I-if you''d l-like, I could maybe help you with the m-medichines." You turn a bright red - you're probably not even cleared for that sort of thing. "If tha-that's okay with you." You meep. "And, uh regulations."

The bluenette grins, and grabs your arm, dragging you off into the back. "I'd be my pleasure, super hacker. The coding has been a bit finnicky, so we could probably use someone with your expertise to help clean it up. I know I can't make heads or tails of what's going on in those little robot's minds." She shrugs. "But I'm a doctor, not a code monkey."

She leads you into the back, where there are vats of what you can only presume to be the prototype medichines that this version of Firewall is using. They don't look the same white that the ones you're used to working with were - they're a bit grayer, as though it was an adapted gray goo. Which, well, that you think of it, it kind of was.

If not, we should send a message off to our CO that we're being pulled into a project by Medical, and get to shaping up the code in the medichines.

>>22574405
We have a 24hr grace period to familiarize ourself with the ship before we're expected anywhere. Given we accomplished that in roughly ten minutes (plus another destination or two), that shouldn't be an issue.

But yeah, sending a message to our supervisor (assuming we know who it is) and then diving into the medichines' code sounds like a plan.

Hey, I'm trying to compile a quest schedule and am wondering if there's a set day and time for this quest. Timezone indication would be great.

Schedule is here >>22585294

>Sorry. Got a big friendly reminder this morning that I was taking the GMATs today.

"Well, here's the console," Reimu says, gesturing to an old fashioned input board. "I apologize in advance for all the spaghetti and meatballs in the code, the Took a Left is in charge of this project but she's not exactly a proper research ve-"

You're already sitting at the console, hunched over somewhat nervously as you peck at the unfamiliar input. You've never actually used a tactile interface before, but other than the strange feeling of graphene pressing against your fingers as you input the code, it really isn't all that different. You make a few errors and for the first few instances are somewhat befuddled that they aren't correcting against your neural input.

It takes some time to get used to, but once you are you almost immediately enter into the Engineering Place. You vaguely recall hearing Reimu say "I'll let you get to that then," and thanking the girl when she brings you a cup of coffee. You are far too focussed on fixing this... this... this heinous, noodly yarnballl of a program to really be aware of anything else.

You hum a chipper little tune to your typing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZZ7oFKsKzY

The world comes back into focus. Reimu is sitting next to you with an impish grin, a pair of chopsticks, and what looks to be a tub of General Tsao's. Minaka is standing right next to her, her eyes darting between worrying over you and being annoyed with Reimu. Next to you are about five cups of coffee, all empty and neatly stacked atop one another. Your mouth vaguely tastes like jalapenos and soy sauce.

"See," Reimu say, "Nothing to worry about. It's just a minor tunnelling disorder is all - her responses will be automatic for as long as she's like this. So when she goes into this 'Engineering Place'..." She turns her grin to the pinkette. "...she just needs someone to wooo~orry about her and take~care~ of her."

Minake frowns.

>Wat do?

We're still coming off of our Engineering High, so we're still full of confidence.

"There, that should take care of most of the coding problems that were in there. What was this, some kind of Alpha release?"

"I heard that." While still trying to untangle the mess.

Yea, when Anne is in her element she tends to be... not quite her normal self, I imagine.
Let's roll out that snark while we still have it.

"Fiiiii~ixed it!" You chirp, clapping your hands a few times and contorting your face into the closest possible approximation of an XD that you can manage. "She's just got to compile, now, but that should take care of most of the coding issues you had going on. Would have sucked trying to use medichines running that garbled mess of a program - would have had people passing out from the amount of waste heat they'd generate just trying to think!" You shake your head amusedly. "I mean, yeesh, what was that, the Alpha release?"

"Beta Version 0.9.1.33," Reimu deadpans, "The pre-release version. Though now that you mention it, we were having trouble with some occassional overheating."

As the new program begins to run, there is a subtle shift in the color of the contents of the vats. The grayish goop has shifted several shades lighter as the machines optimize their configuration for running their new programming, and while still not the perfect white of your homeline, the color is now quite further divorced from their gray goo origins.

Minaka taps her foot. "Well that's well and good," she says, grabbing you by the arm, "but we need to go get our quarters assigned to us." She gives you a pleading look. "And I'd like to get down there before the cadet doubles are all handed out."

Reimu raises her hand to cover her mouth and gives Minaka a meaningful look. Minaka glares sidelong at her.

>Wat do?

>>22586592
Subtly threaten Reimu with our SUPER HACKER powers, and then go reserve a bunk with Minaka.

Let's get out of here and hope to get a double.

And tell Reimu to make sure that we get some credit for optimizing the code; we'll need something concrete to show to Daedalus that we need to be taken seriously when we contact her about being from an alternate timeline.

I'm pretty sure she'll play it straight with us without being prompted. But yes, let's get a move on and get ourselve a room.

Oh hey, our pay just improved quite a bit, I imagine.

>I'm pretty sure she'll play it straight with us without being prompted.
We have absolutely no idea if Daedalus has memories from the other timeline because we haven't entered her perspective yet.
She has no reason to believe the insane ramblings of a cadet that she has no connection to aside from working for the same organization.

>>22586868
I meant Reimu, actually. Not listing our contributions (we essentially just rewrote the code from scratch) would be shady bordering on criminal.

You tense up as the high from a SUCCESSFUL. WORK. OF ENGINEERING. ART. subsides from your mind. Still, enough remains for one, only semi nervous quip at Reimu's expense.

"N-no laughing Re-Reimu." you blush. "You're ha-ha-hardly in a position to talk."

Reimu pouts playfully. "Fair point!" She holds her hand to her distinctively lacking chest. "As the secret of this maiden's heart lay in your hands, Super Hacker, so too shall I hold my tongue of how you have stolen~ the heart of this humble soldier." She brings her hand up to her mouth again, supressing a grin. "Even if it is forbidden~love~."

You of course, are dragged off by Minaka before you can retort. You call back to Reimu, asking her to attach your name to the project as a code and programming consultant, and between laughs the other girl assures you that she already did. Minaka mouths "super hacker?" at you before she decides that you're not quite fast enough for her liking, and does the closest approximation to picking you up that one can manage in a null gravity environment.

Then, faster than your own muscles could manage, Minaka rockets the two of you off of one of the handle bars, maneuvering the two of you into the emergency fast lane that you are fairly sure is only supposed to be used in emergencies.

"I-isn't this only supposed to be used for emergencies?" you ask her.

"This -is- and emergency," Minaka replies. "Besides, I'm holding you in the standard Injured Person Carry. As long as no one notices that we're -leaving- the medical bay, we'll be fine."

Of course, Minaka just had to say that as you were passing Commander Caesius. You stop rather abruptly as he grabs the Pinkette's leg and pulls her over to the side.

"Cadet Forte," he snarks, "You are aware that the Medical Bay is in the opposite direction, yes?" He points at one of the signs. "Kind of hard to miss."

Minaka shut up right just about then - getting plucked out from the sky by someone who is so much further up the chain of command as Commander Caesius was tends to do that to the boldest of people. You are nascently aware that your friend is babbling off excuses that no one will actually buy, and decide that it might be better if you were the one to try to get you out of this.

The thought utterly horrifies you. You are not good at the smooth talking thing - Minaka isn't any better, really, though she has the opposite problem of being beligerent rather than clamming up.

"W-w-w-we were just coming from there..." you stutter out. Minaka looks betrayed. Caesius looks stern. "Th-th-there w-was a project - medichines, I th-think - that Doctor Ha-Harlon needed some help with... sp-spaghettified code everywhere. And I f-f-f-fixed it, bu-but got a bit carried away and it took too long and Midshipman Forte came to pick me up because we... ah..."

"Spit it out, cadet." Caesius orders.

"Midshipman Choi did not sign up for quarters yet, sir," Minaka answers for you. "As we were planning on rooming together, I made the reckless decision of using the emergeny lane to get there faster."

"Is that so..." He trails off, rubbing his chin. "Well, I cannot condone the use of emergency infrastructure for such frivolous purposes as... hmmm... I dare say it was good fortune that I overheard you talking over your plans, yes." He nods to himself. "Before you had an accident, and ran into someone else in your haste... don't let me -catch- you misusing this again, cadet."

He looks at the two of you expentently.

"Well, then, carry on."

>overheard you talking over your plans
Is this referring to him hearing Anne over Minaka's excuses? Cause I can't think of any plans we actually talked about recently, let alone where this guy'd hear.

Carry on, apologize to Minaka about speaking up, acquire room. Should we attempt to convince Minaka about this once we get to the room?

Also we may as well try that technomancer trick once we get a quiet moment.
>>
>>22588181
The man did emphasize 'catch.'
>>
>>22587185
If it's possible to get somewhere faster by using a specific section of the null-g corridor, it seems like it'd be more efficient to let people use the lane and make them get out of the way when somebody who actually had an emergency came through. It'd require a bunch of warning lights and fire alarm-type things, but this is post-scarcity after all.

"Yessir!" You and Minaka salute. He waves you off without all that much ceremony, floating his way back to where he was going.

You are utterly, utterly shocked when Minaka simply gets back onto the fast lane and starts up her speed again. You try to mouth words to her, but find your voice completely incapable of making any sound. Did you not just get pulled over by your superior officer? Did he not give you explicit orders to stay off the fast rail unless there is, in fact, an emergency.

Since words just aren't coming, you start start to plaintext her.

=====OmnIRC=====

Anne has joined #MinAnneka

Anne: Mina, what the hell?
Anne: Did he not just say not to do that?
Anne: Did he NOT just say not to do that?
Anne: Mina, please stop.
Anne: I know you can see this - OmnIRC is in the bottom left of your Specs.
Anne: Let's stop and get off the rail.

==========

You continue your ineffectual attempt to get it through Mina's head that this is a very bad idea right up to the point where you arrive at the Logistics Department and gravity kicks in again. Mina winks at you, and drags you off to the desk.

"Please tell me you have a double's quarters left," she begs of the supply officer. He pokes at the air for a moment, before nodding. Minaka leaps for joy.

"It's down by T-Delta," he informs you, "Block 41C. Gravity is at .9 standard, but given your reaction I can only imagine that it will suffice." He shakes his head as the pinkette drags you back to the hall.

"We weren't supposed to do that," you hiss at her. "He just said that..."

"But that's where you're wrong, Anne." Mina replies. "We weren't supposed to get -caught- doing it. And we didn't."

You take the slower route back to your new room, deciding that it isn't worth the possibility that you might get caught by a superior to take the emergency rail. Minaka has not yet stopped carrying you, and quite honestly you can't bring yourself to mind all that much. Her shoulder is quite comfortable, really, and with the grip she has on you you're not quite sure if she actually would let you dismount.

There is no gravity outside of your quarters, given that it is located along a major traffic channel. It's an inner apartment, so you won't be getting the same view of space that you got back at the Academy, but you doubt you would have anyways - windows are structural weakness, after all. It's located right near the joint, so all you'll have to do tommorow is fling yourself "Up" out of the apartment to get to T-Delta. There's even a convenient door in just that direction.

The door slides open when Minaka presents her ID, and you walk in.

"Wow, this place is nice and cozy," she says.

"Y-yeah, it really is," you agree.

It really is - it's a bit smaller than the place you had back at the Academy, and much more efficiently arranged. It also happens to be a much more pleasant color than the Academy Dorm - the walls are painted a soothing gray-green than the rather unfortunate brown of your "Old" place. There are all the amenities of a small apartment, most notably a bunk bed which has a button that flips the lower mattress upside down into a couch.

The room, of course, is silent, as all of the apartments are self contained units that can and will eject in case of emergency, and as such do not let outside sound in. Well, it is silent until Mina speaks.

"It's getting late," she says, offhandedly placing you down on the couch. You look at your time keeper and holy shit you managed to spend ten hours working on that code. She grins at you slyly. "Care to break those beds in?"

You really should feel more hungry than you are, especially considering the fact that you skipped out on breakfast. Your mind flashes back to what Reimu was doing before you and Minaka left her, and how she mentioned that when you went into the Engineering Place you needed someone to "take~care~" of you. More importantly, you remember the taste of jalapenos and soy sauce in you mouth, which is still there albeit to a lesser extent.

You turn a bright, bright pink. R-reimu was -feeding- you? That would explain all the coffee cups stacked up next to you.

Minaka completely misinterprets your blush to mean something completely and utterly different than what it actually meant. But by the time your mind has the opportunity to think about correcting her, she already has you mostly naked and on the bed. By the time the words have risen into your mouth, her fingers are already dancing magically across certain places and thus the correction does not come out as anything but further stimuli encouraging Minaka to please continue as that feels -very- good.

Before you lose yourself to her ministrations, you reliquish narrative control to another character. The figment lady gives you a lewd grin, and passes it on to Daedalus.

You are now the Demigodlike AI. You have a good amount of control over the economy and resource distribution of a planet known as Harpers Reach. You used to have much greater control over it, before the people from an organization known as Firewall tranformed you from a Dumb AI into a True AI by modifying your code into a proper state vector. You have, over the past few days, come to the conclusion that your old boss is a jerk, and that your daughter's Weird Biological Habbits are strangely adorable.

You spectacularly fail to remember anything from any alternate universes. You don't know anything about them, and even given your limited contact with humanity proper as a fellow transhuman, you find that claiming to be from one would be far and divorced from what you have come to assume is sane. Instead, you decide to take inventory of what Firewall is capable of, and what defenses you can bring to bear.

=====Omniwiki ENCRYPTED=====

So you wish to get your knowings on about the Firewall?

Firewall's main has for the past 900 years hid on the fringes and inbetweens of systems, away from the inward turnings of Emperor Richard's eyes. It is estimated that the represent 4.68% of the sum total of all humanity, though their worlds are far flung from those of the Empire. Their active military force is near a third of the population living under their banner, and their fleet holds something near two hundred thousand ships.

The major problem is their infrastructure. Firewall's colonies were created with colony ships flung into the furthest reachs of space. Their strategy was to "lose" the ships (which were connected to one another via Einstein-Rosen Shenangins) for five hundred years - they went in one direction, and never stopped. These colonies were then interconnected with additional gates, as well as large gates in orbit to transport ships back to sequestered gates on the fringes of the Empire.

Should these gates cut off, communications would be hampered.

You have many things that you wish to do, and fortunately you are quite skilled in the art of multitasking.

The first order of business - and by first, you mean the one of many parralels running simultaneously that happens to come first in the narrative order - is to further disable the Emergency "Fuck You" Solar Detonator. You really don't quite see the point in keeping it around, all things considered, as while it does allow you to harness the sum total energy of a star as a weapon, it has the unfortunate side effect of burning the planet under your... guidance into a charred and burnt out husk.

This is easier said than done, as you will first need to construct probes that can withstand the pressures of a star, as the majority of the device is lodged with it.

>Roll 1d20+18 for percentage you can complete today. Average of First 3.

The second order of business, you suppose, is to check up on your beloved tomboyish daughter. She is, at the present moment, doing something on the nest of plush animals that she calls her bed. From her general lack of clothes and the fact that her eyes are closed, you would presume that she is sleeping but for the fact that she also seems to be singing. You think anyways - it certainly isn't the moans of pain that you initially presume it was when you first decanted her - she had cleared that up fairly quickly. You resolve to look up the concept of sleep singing at a later time.

Regardless of any weird biological things she is doing, you are reaffirmed in your opinion that she is multiple sorts of adorable. You contemplate for the moment allowing her access to the "chocolate" substance again, but for now decide against it. It has no nutritional value whatsoever, and the Broblerone type seemed to have strange effects. You just hope her nap is over before the Firewall Agents arrive - it's only one hour off.

The third order of business is to continue strengthenin the Arcologies. 56% of them have already reached battle ready defensiveness, both against kinect impacters and whatever NBC/n weapons might be deployed against them.

>Roll 1d20+18 for percentage you can complete today. Average of first 3.

The last order of business is to begin the construction of orbital shipyards. You know that the Firewall people will be bringing someone rather important down to the undersea base that you have housed your daughter in. However, while they might consider the 'kill her, retrieve cortical stack, bury the place' a viable option for getting their prisoner off planet in a jiffy, you'd rather not have your daughter go through that sort of trauma.

So some proactive measures are necessarry. You send out a fleet of constructor nanites to grab some mass from the local asteroid belt, and begin assembling a shipyard an a fleet of drones.

Wait, maybe we shouldn't (completely) dismantle the nova bomb. A star's worth of energy sound like it would be pretty useful when it come to fucking about with timelines. Or, for that matter, pretty much anything we might want to do. In any case, the first roll is for sun-drones which we'll need anyway.

Rollan for the things in order.
>>
Solar Detonator:
2, 3, 16 = 7 + 18 = 25

Arcologies:
19, 8, 9 = 12 + 18 = 30

Shipyards:
11, 20, 4 = 11 + 18 = 29

Kind of lackluster there on the Solar Detonator. Hope it doesn't blow up in our face as part of a fail-safe self-destruct mechanism.

>Roll 1d20+18 for percentage you can complete today.
>percentage you can complete today.
>>
>>22593256
This guy has a pretty good point, actually. We should keep the Solar Detonator available for future modification instead of just trashing it.

>Detonator Completion: 26%
>Arcology Completion: 25%
>Shipyards Completion: 30%

You complete the basic construction for the Prototype Mark I Stellar Entry Probes, and find that your design seems adequate based upon the simulations you have run. Unfortunately there are, naturally, variables that you have not accounted for. Thus, when you go to test them, you manage to succeed send your probe into the star - a feat that is remarkably impressive in spite of how simple it seems.

Unfortunately, it explodes at about 26% of the way into the core. Its sacrifice will not be in vain, however, as the data acquired will go about making BETTER probes.

On to the arcologies, things continue to go just according to plan. While not exactly as much got done as you would have liked, you do manage to complete another 25% of the Arcologies' defenses, bringing the number of battle ready arcologies to 81%.

The last bit, in building the shipyards, comes surprisingly easy to you. Your constructor probes are now out in the local asteroid belt, and not only have they assembled Mass Drivers in the local space, but they have also flung a handful of city sized asteroids into orbit. You launch a few thousand more constructor probes into orbit around them, and they have begun the long and arduous process of breaking them down, and turning them into the foundations of the shipyards.

About an hour into your work, you get a message from someone titled "ThunderboltZolt".

>Wat do?

Your paranoia is strangely adorable, Caution.
Probably gonna drive us over the edge and into "totally, raving mad territory" eventually, but till.then your advice seems rather useful in ensuring this AI's continued existence.
>>22593071
Someone refresh my memory, but… I think we're way more Space Nazi modo on this timeline, even to our own daughter.

Old Icarus still had regular chocolate and cocoa m, I believe, and there was no mention of the menu being locked to Health Nut mode.
>>
>>22594425
What do you mean health nut? we are merly ensuring that our daughter grows up big and strong, as any mother should
>>
>>22594425
I think it's a combination of us still being right at the Godzilla Threshold, and not planning on having Icarus be the prototype to the DOLLs and the Dummy Plug System.
So we're far more concerned with her health than in the last iteration where we expected her to resleave into a new body fairly soon.
>>
>>22594425
We're a bit newer at this whole being a sentient AI this time around, we've had about two days at it. So we're going a bit overboard to make sure she stays healthy. Daedalus in the other timeline had a lot more personal experience with people and their habits, she knew chocolate wasn't a big deal.
>>
>>22594487
I think it's just that we don't get that things taste good and so on and are only considering efficiency. We've only been awake two days and didn't know that Icarus was playing with herself and in fact assumed she was asleep, remember.

>Final Post for this thread.

Before you open the message, you decide to do the forking thing. You first make a fork to test the message for malware. When it reports back, your machine brain finds the logic in accepting it until it has been tested it self. You then make another fork to test that fork, given that the fork may have been infected by the malware. You then realize that the malware might have been passed between the two forks, and make a fork to check that fork. This goes on for a while.

Then your abstract thinking kicks in and corrects your mistake. Man, you're still not used to this whole sentience thing.

=====OmnIRC=====

Zolt: Madame Daedalus, I wish to talk to you regarding the prisoner.
Zolt: Namely, how we have not been able to get much information out of her.
Zolt: Seriously, we've gotten pretty much nothing.
Zolt: This is impressive, given the fact that she is, in essence, the Emperor.
Zolt: Well, his "better half" anyway.
Zolt: Unless this is all a trick.
Zolt: Which it could very well be, knowing that tricky Dick
Zolt: *Ahem*, I mean, that tricky Imperial Dick.
Zolt: I suppose you may have made that guess as well, then.
Zolt: And that you're sure it is nothing that you or your daughter won't be able to handle.
Zolt: How did that even work anyways, if I may ask?
Zolt: Can computers bud or something?
Zolt: Pardon my lack of propriety into this subject, but I really am curious.
Zolt: Very well, I will ask no longer.
Zolt: But until confirmed otherwise, I shall assume budding.
Zolt: The aesthetic of the concept amuses me.
Zolt: You're not even there, are you?
Daedalus has joined #EvilCookiesClub
Daedalus: Hello. You are the commander of the fleet.
Daedalus: Please state query.
Zolt: Oh, there you are!
Daedalus: Error: That's not a query.
Zolt: Yes, well, could you perhaps look at my ramblings?
Daedalus: I am incapable of looking at bits of data.
Zolt: Uhhhh
Daedalus: Query: Do you mean 'review'?
Zolt: Yes.

>For next thread, Wat do?

Inform him that "budding" is close enough, and we shall see what we can get out of Veritas/The Prisoner.
>>
>>22594884
Have Icarus continue talking with Veritas.
Continue building our shipyards and fortifying the arcologies.
Think on repurposing the Solar Detonator into a Stellar Energy Collector.

Talk with Icarus and Veritas, question Veritas of knowledge of the Emperor.
>>
>>22594884
Can we engage a slightly less... robotic? personality? Surely something in there spawned Icarus and is a but fluffier.

What sort of information is he looking for?
Also it's like forking, but with more mind rape.

>>22594979
And by "we" I meant Icarus, of course.

>>22594884

Makes sense, mainly wondered whether anyone else took note of the fact that in this iteration, our reaction was to SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING. instead of just locking Broblerone.bro out of the system.
> Dummy Plug System
We might wanna consider that for the future.
>>
>>22603099
In this timeline, without the Vonnie IFF as a limiting factor, we can set up the Dummy System for both genders.

Considering that they're going into combat, setting up an industrial-scale resleaving operation with the full suite of military-grade pre-natal genemods seems like common sense.

Perhaps we can also give Icarus some sisters.
>>
The Rebels are using wormhole gates to connect their controlled systems, shipyards, and space stations together.
What about the Empire? Do they have FTL drives, or is all interstellar travel done via the gate networks?
>>
>>22596741
And try the technomancer thing, it might actually work. Even if it doesn't transport us into the last universe, it might show us what we have to do to do so. Like a blueprint or something.

>>22605426
I can never remember, was the Dummy System just making the bodies or making a huge amount of forks to go in said bodies?

Because doing the latter makes absolutely no sense here and I still maintain it was completely unnecessary in the last universe too.
>>
>>22608519
It was to create the bodies and prepare forks for them.

And how is the ability to have hundreds of emergency supplemental personnel unnecessary when we're fighting a war against a transhuman galactic power?
>>
Hm. Reading the archives a bit, swearing by "jesus christ and all the minor deities," or similar, isn't that uncommon. Mina did it when saving Anne from Reimu after Anne's prank, and Anne did after hearing about Reimu's tragic history.

Still might not be bad to check the omniwiki about religion.
>>
>>22609861
Swearing and cursing to relieve minor amounts of stress and for the rush of endorphines is one thing; actually being religious is another.

The rebels may also be more libertarian in their attitudes towards the religious.
Plenty of time to exile them to memetic-leper colonies on barren planets after victory over the empire is complete.
>>
>>22609250
Because I think the chance that they'd go rogue or otherwise have something go wrong far outweighs whatever gain there is in having them when we've got people ready and willing to do the job.
>>
This thread is pretty big, perhaps we should let it stop bumping and ReaDS can make a new one?
>>
>>22613506
It's only 189 posts out of 300 before hitting autosage.

>>22613424
The chances of one or any of them going rogue is the same chance of Daedalus going rogue, because they're forks.
The rebellion has a problem of lacking personnel and material resources able to fight the Empire on any level higher than isolated terrorist attacks and a guerrilla campaign that has lasted for hundreds of years without significant progress.
The defection of Daedalus is the single greatest victory that Firewall has achieved and you want to limit what we can do with it.
>>
>>22613601
>implying we would stand a chance in numbers even if we converted the entire planet's mass into genemodded bodies as well as cutting-edge equipment for the same and filled them all with superintelligent completely loyal forks
High Lord Rick has the entire resources of nearly the entire galaxy at his fingertips. If Firewall ever accomplishes something actually meaningful in the fight against him, it'll be some sort of hidden weakness thing where we'd have more than enough people to do it anyway.
Rick has entire systems worth more soldiers than us and you want to make a couple extra minds, waste time growing bodies for them, and send them off en masse to get blown up by a solar detonator.
>>
>>22614095
Time and resources spent making bodies that any Firewall soldier that loses their body can resleave into is not wasted. Also, making minds is a matter of a few seconds to create a couple thousand or ten thousand.
And losing a couple thousand bodies and our own forks rather than the unique Alpha State Vectors of Firewall personnel to deny Rich the resources of an entire star system would be a bargain for us.
And aside from using them as frontline troops, the DOLLs can be used to build up the infrastructure of Firewall, which they need technicians and personnel for and that the Dummy System can provide them with.
>>
>>22611851
Yes, and that's how how Reimu used it that made me wonder, thereby being a false positive at the time. She may not have been abducted in this worldline, depending on the state of the dogmatic viral memes, which is why we should look in to it.
